Art Summary of 2023
I kind of wish I had taken this thing to the next level and used a picture with a clone in it for March and November as well (I looked it up now, I very much could have added my Fives portrait or that first pinup-y illustration of Rex for March, and a very cute drawing of a clone OC and his dog (of whom I am promised to get partial custody, and how cool is that really?? and I am so very excited to show him off next year!!)) but it was also the year of Din in big hats as well, so I let those pieces stay :) You'll just have to take my word that there is a Rex in the July picture too.
I feel ike I have learned so much, and also have grown a lot more confident in my skills as an artist; I've learned that I love drawing backgrounds to make a "full" illustration, that intricate little details fascinate me to no end, that I can do fun things with lineart and my version of cell shading but I also miss dedicating the time to a full painting; and that harsh/stronger light reflecting off of darker skin is still something I'll have to study further next year.
Thank you everyone for your continued support in 2023! I have so many kind and enthusiastic tags screenshotted and saved for the days when I inevitably doubt what I do, it means so so much to me! I'm very grateful for the old and new friends I'd made or reconnected with this year ❤️❤️❤️ - and hello to new followers too, I hope you'll keep enjoying what I do here ❤️

Total Words Published in 2023: 75,954
Tri: Integrity Lens
Puits d'Amour
Four Years
Info on Infinite Possibilities
I wrote/edited/planned/drafted a lot more than what I published, but I'm not sure how to share/quantify that. In fact, this is the first year I've been able to celebrate my work in a summarized/visual way, and it's all thanks to Zuz's fanfiction year end wrap-up template! Zuz, ty for giving fanfic writers a way to participate in the year end wrap ups <3
I feel that the content I produced this year is truly high quality and personally meaningful. I'm proud of it, and I'm excited to continue growing, learning, and working on both myself and my craft. Thank you to everyone who is along for the ride with me. It means a lot that my stories matter to you.
I'm wishing you all the best in 2024. And remember, self care and growth are more important than output. Creating and well being go hand in hand, but there must be balance.
All my love,
Hidden

art summary 2023!!!
i wanted to give slight commentary instead of just 12 random pngs so here you go
tuesday 3rd january - blah blah blah!
this was meant to be the first frame of an animation. then flipaclip decided not to work. anyway theres a lot of incomplete stuff from this year and this is (sort of) one of them. idk how to explain why theres 4 of me and what's going on, it makes sense (sort of) if you read the thing its based on.
monday 20th february - waluigi doodle page
i literally cannot stress enough this is the only thing i can be certain was definitely drawn in february. i would have picked a different thing otherwise, i swear. i was on a gc late at night asking who i should draw with waluigi and they gave me yoshi koopas and birdette. istg.
tuesday 21st march - tails and tbh (discord pfp)
FINALLY!!! SOMETHING ACTUALLY GOOD FOR COMPARING!!!
its funny how on one hand i dont draw tails like that AT ALL anymore, but at the same time, literally all my headcanons are there, like his fangs coming out when hes really happy, his fluffy ears, etc. the onky thing missing really is drawing fluffy arms and legs lol. as for the rest of the drawing, i think its ok. theres a few errors, particularly with the stroke, and i needed to fix the fill bucket around tbh's eyes, but this is nearly a year old now so im not fixing it. sorry.
friday 21st april - gently holding tails
ah, tails plushie, how i love thee. where the hell are you girl i havent seen you in months. i have waluigi now. i miss you :(
tuesday 9th may - waluigi sketch with alcohol markers
i hate alcohol markers. they dry too quickly. so it surprised me when one day, while forcing myself to like them, i drew something i actually liked. i still love this btw!!! this is the basis for how i currently draw waluigi rn, and my art as a whole!!!
also fun fact: i drew this the day before i started reading sonic idw :)
saturday 24th june - transmasc luigi watercolour stuff
once again, weird mario fanart i made while talking to a friend late at night. the initial shirtless luigi was drawn as a joke because of a really quick shirtless waluigi my friend drew at summer school in 2022 as a joke, which is what the weird one who craves death is based on. weird as this art may be, this was such a happy time in the year for me and i miss it greatly :)
ill have to do july - december in a follow up post because i reached the image limit lol

i know we all have to read a variation on the same debate every year about whether new year’s resolutions are good or toxic but i gotta say they are almost always a fruitful imaginative exercise for me regardless of whether they are "successful". i love the 2023 manifestos too and also yearly themes which my parents got me into. the last weeks of the year feel so generative and full of energy 🙇♀️ ✨⚡️

Sir Eric Neal summarised the year in his chairman's statement in the 1991 annual report. The statement, which had been furnished by management and written in a way that reflected what were known to be his views and attitudes, said:
As foreshadowed in my last report to you, the 1990-91 year has been one of the most difficult Westpac has faced in its 174 years of operations. Australia's current recession has been longer and deeper than was expected and has seriously impacted the bank's operations results . . . There are signs that the worst of the bad debt experience may now be behind us . . . Of particular significance to the Westpac Group has been the downturn in the commercial property market. Management of the group's property portfolio has been strengthened and the close involvement of the board property committee provides additional assistance to the proprietors that the group's property exposure is under constant review . . . Directors are satisfied that valuations of the group's major property exposures are appropriate and that provisions have been established where necessary to reflect any potential loss of value.

trying to apply for a credit card with guaranteed approval and finding out only after your application was approved that it's a secured card is Not Great
I purposefully did not select the cards labelled as secured cards because I don't have the money for a secured deposit. I picked- based on all information provided and how it was presented- what I thought was just a regular low-balance credit card designed for low-income or high-risk customers to be an alternative to secured cards for helping to rebuild credit
#i had the annual fee saved up and thought 'hey here's a different card that ISN'T secured and the annual fee is the same- I can do that!'#and then#NOPE it's a secured card#so why is it labelled differently? why does the info summary not indicate that it's a secured card when the other secured cards do?#well the upshot is that I have 120 days to come up with $300 or else it expires there's no other way to cancel the application#no idea what it's going to do to my credit score but there's no much i can do about that now#i figured since signing up for a credit builder product my avg account age halved & dropped my score#i may as well add another account now while it won't have as drastic an effect on my avg age but i guess i've done more damage#and i'm just gonna have to wait for it to sort itself out#anything i try to do now will almost definitely make it even worse

Looking back at my list of books I read in 2023 (32 per my list on goodreads), my most read authors this year were T Kingfisher (5) and Victoria Goddard (only 3? must not be counting the rereads). Shortest and longest books belong to Goddard, who writes at two volumes. Outside of them, i also enjoyed To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Blackgoose, the Sandman in audio format, and Station Eternity by Lafferty. Man, I was harsh on my reviews this year,
Overall, the number of books I've read the past couple years is significantly decreased, 30s vs 50s. But that's okay, because it's just a hobby. (I think the internet/fanfic/computer games take up more time; also I've been trying to get in more exercise, and doing some spinning as well)
Maybe I should try to read some nonfiction for 2024? Let's be honest, I still have at least four books out right now on my wishlist, and still a dozen books from readercon and boskone that I want to get to.

2023 Writing Review + December Writing Summary
This was a very productive year! I actually entered A Summer with the Immortal in a pitch event (though nothing ended up coming of it), finished the first drafts of The Claws of the Ounce and The Gift of Gloves, and started two new projects. June and July were the two most productive months I've ever had!
This month, I had kind of bad writer's block so I didn't reach any of my goals. At least I got something done.
A summary of my current WIPs (for both December and the year as a whole) under the cut:
THE CLAWS OF THE OUNCE 🫀
FIRST DRAFT
Words written this year: 63,706
Total word count: 114,730
Date completed: July 31
SECOND DRAFT
Current word count: 25,400
Words written / added this month: 4,000
Current chapter: 7 out of 28
Snippet:
Three seconds of clicking scissors, and Ash’s whiskers lay in the sink. A delicate arrangement of silver threads over white porcelain, one crisscrossing over the other two. They looked like… Like nothing at all.
Notes:
A third of the words for the first draft were written during Camp NaNo.
I really like the way the second draft (kind of a rewrite lol) is going, even if it's slower than I expected.
Goal for January: Get to 30K. (Setting them really low this time.)
Goal for 2024: Start querying it.
THE GIFT OF GLOVES 🧤
FIRST DRAFT
Words written this year: 25,025
Total word count: 38,725
Date completed: August 20
SECOND DRAFT
Current word count: 4,275
Words written / added this month: 1,038
Current chapter: 2 out of 9
Snippet:
And then, like a lightning bolt crackling into the earth, a revelation came to her. The restlessness in her heart awakened and roared out in joy. She’d found something. By all the spirits of the world, she’d found something.
Notes:
This story just doesn't want to be written quickly. Progress was really slow this year again (apart from June, when I got a sudden burst of inspiration and wrote 7K for it).
Goal for January: Get to 10K.
Goal for 2024: I don't even know...
FOREST IN A SHADOW BOX 🦋
Date started: June 1 ("officially" - I wrote the prologue back in March)
Word count: 33,585
Words written this month: 2,045
Current chapter: Just finished 10 out of 25!
Snippet:
The moss-covered statue at the city’s border was a familiar face. (Well, a familiar torso and pair of legs, at least. Most of its upper half was too overgrown and eroded to really be knowable.)
Notes:
This is the sequel to A Summer with the Immortal, and tbh the reason why trying to get ASwtI trad-pubbed makes me nervous. I guess if ASwtI doesn't sell well enough for a sequel, I can always share FiaSB some other way...
Goal for January: Get to 40K.
Goal for 2024: Finish the first and second drafts.
THE MYSTERIES OF THE APRICOT SUN 🌇
Date started: October 3
Word count: 11,560
Words written this month: 2,755
Current chapter: Just finished 4 out of 32!
Snippet:
Darby spun on her heel and dashed between the two nearest palms. She accidentally bumped against one of them, and had to dodge the bird-catching tendril that flickered out of its crown with a dry shkt. Luckily, she managed to do so without losing any speed. Sorry, tree, for triggering your reflex. No food for you right now.
(I drew a different moment from this scene! Please look at it, I'm really proud of it.)
Notes:
Writing this story feels great, because I've had the seeds of it taking up space in my brain for a good while now.
Goal for January: Get to 20K.
Goal for 2024: Finish the first draft.
