You know that guy spider from school of rock that hits on joan cusack? The one thatâs wearing low cut leather pants and that leather crop top, tits fully out with s e x tattooed over his navel? Well, I believe it is very important for the sake of the plot that they put lestat in that exact outfit at least once.Â

The issue with listening to (the equivalent of) more than one project per week during a year where EVERYONE is releasing is that so many EPs/Albums I love feel so low in my ranking compared to where they would be in a normal year.
#about me#like I'm so glad I'm making the effort to to this I'm listening to so many artists I never would've otherwise#but like as one example Leigh Anne's new EP is so fun and would easily be top 10 if not 5 projects in another year but is currently 12th ri

Picture the scene. You're a gay nerd who followed a weirdly common pathway of being super into Les Mis and Hamlet as a teenager to ending up a medievalist (you will see why the Les Mis connection is relevant).
One day, in the course of your PhD on friendship in the late Ulster Cycle, which is really just an excuse to think about LĂĄeg and CĂș Chulainn all the time, you find yourself looking at an early eighteenth century manuscript of Oidheadh Con Culainn.
You find this.
Please excuse me any transcription errors, because I'm doing this on sight while writing this post, and likewise translation, and also while crying, but:
"Is ann sin do choirigh Laogh an laochmhilid ina sheasamh ris an ccairthe chloiche 7 a aghaidh ar fhearaibh Eireann. 7 do chuir a sgiath ina chlé låimh ..." Then Låeg arranged the hero standing against the standing stone and his face towards the men of Ireland. And he put his shield in his left hand...
The context of the scene. This is the moment of CĂș Chulainn's death. LĂĄeg is helping him to the standing stone. So far, so much what I would expect from Oidheadh Con Culainn.
And then:
Ro dhealaig a anam rĂ© corp Choingculoinn ann sin, 7 a druimm ris an ccairthe, 7 a lĂĄmh a lĂĄimh Laoigh mac Rianghabhra And CĂș Chulainn's soul left his body then, and his back against the stone, and his hand in the hand of LĂĄeg mac RĂangabra
Emphasis quite clearly mine.
This is not in any of the versions of Oidheadh Con Culainn that have been edited so far. I have never seen this before in my life.
In this manuscript from 1702-03, CĂș Chulainn dies HOLDING LĂEG'S HAND.
(17-year-old Finn, fervent e/R shipper, would like to point out that at least LĂĄeg was alive and this isn't quite a permets-tu? situation yet, but boy did I just get bodyslammed by a recursive loop of feelings nonetheless. And now we see why the Les Mis/Hamlet->medievalist pipeline is relevant.)

I've seen a lot of OFMD fans pointing at other fan campaigns recently, especially the failed campaign to save Anne with an E, and getting disheartened by what they see, and I think something that's missing in those discussions (particularly after the weirdly negative slant at the end of that Guardian article) is that not all fan campaigns are the same.
The campaigns to save shows that started out on Netflix (Warrior Nun, Sense8, Anne with an E, Shadow and Bone, etc.) are very different to what we are facing with OFMD, because Netflix is much more protective of its IP - and yes, they even hold the IP of shows that they've cancelled tightly to their chests and very rarely let them go. Some have been able to make the jump to different platforms, but not many, and it's actually pretty hard to do so (âFor most shows, shopping away from Netflix is reportedly very difficult when Netflix owns the underlying IPâ).
Because of this, fans of shows cancelled by Netflix are often campaigning directly for Netflix to reverse that decision, rather than campaigning to get it picked up elsewhere. Warrior Nun (I saw people panicking at the length of effort and the numbers they had to put in before they got their success) and Sense8 were both granted final films by Netflix to wrap up their stories after long-running successful fan campaigns - they were not saved by a different platform, and likely couldn't have been because of Netflix's strict grip on its IP. So comparing ourselves to fan campaigns for shows cancelled by Netflix isn't accurate or fair to us or to those other campaigns.
It's also worth pointing out that Anne with an E was a joint venture between Netflix and CBC, and that relationship appears to have fallen apart, which may have been a factor in its cancellation (see more at this tweet). This is also likely a contributing factor as to why, despite the campaign to save it being huge, it didn't get the reprieve from Netflix that other shows have received. That is baggage that OFMD simply doesn't have.
OFMD is in a very different position to many of the shows that were cancelled by Netflix and then went on to have fan campaigns around them, in that we have confirmation from HBO Max that they are happy for it to be shopped around. HBO Max is not holding a firm grip on the IP the way that Netflix does. We are able to try to find OFMD a new home. And that's a very different sort of campaign and trajectory than trying to convince the platform that cancelled us to reverse/amend their decision (I'd also argue it's slightly easier - nothing is certain, nothing is easy, but I think we have a better chance being allowed to look for someone else to pick us up rather than relying on the company that cancelled us to show us mercy).
Yes, some fan campaigns have had many more petition signatures than us (don't sniff at 80,000 signatures in two weeks, that's huge and fast), but that is only one part of the story. Petition signatures alone won't be the thing that clinches it. There are fan campaigns with hundreds of thousands of signatures that have failed, but there are also fan campaigns with way less signatures than us that have seen their show saved. There's so many elements at play, and every single one is unique. It's very tempting to play 'like for like' with these sorts of campaigns, but it's simply not a truthful reflection of the situation.
Every show is different. Every fan campaign is different.
We have every reason to be hopeful, and every reason to keep fighting. OFMD's numbers are good, it's already incredibly marketable to other streamers, and then ON TOP of that the fan reaction has been loud enough for a lot of people to take notice.
Yes, we're in a dip right now because that's what happens - every campaign has peaks and troughs because nothing sustains at the same level forever, and, again, it's only been just over two weeks and look at what we've done - but the impact we had, and the noise we made, happened at exactly the right time and kept happening for long enough to make an impression. A lot of things will be happening behind the scenes right now that we don't know about, and there's so many factors at play that we have no control over. It's a long game.
So don't look at other fan campaigns and be disheartened by what you see. Because what you see on the surface is nowhere near close to the full picture.
Even if we don't get our S3, lets celebrate the fact that we have made a huge impression, kicked up a huge stink, and been the thorn in the side of some people who absolutely fucking needed a couple of thorns in their side. And I think that's the best legacy that our rebellious little gay pirate show could possibly have.

One of the creepiest things among the many betrayals by Fouché for me
Yes, he did many horrible things, one of the most notorious being when his police tortured people, whether they were innocent or guilty, royalists or Jacobins, such as what happened in Lyon. Yes, he was involved in many schemes, sometimes horrifying (I will soon look into the case of Clément de Ris), betraying many people, including his colleagues and close ones (like Collot d'Herbois). But one of the creepiest things, in my opinion, concerns the Babeuf family, more specifically the sons of Gracchus Babeuf.
In Le Tribun du Peuple, at one point, Gracchus says that he had recommended his children to Fouché (Emile and Camille Babeuf, presumably), with this excerpt: "When I left to be exiled to the North, I believed I could place enough trust in you to recommend my children. They went to see you" (Le Tribun du Peuple, no. 35, 9 Frimaire, Year IV). Years later, Fouché struck a hard blow in the Jacobin arrest list, as Marie-Anne Babeuf, widow of Gracchus Babeuf, was included. Some claim she wasn't politically active, but I strongly doubt that: she was a woman known to be her husband's political right hand, with a terrifying strength of character who never renounced her husband's name, who campaigned politically, and who, even after his death, associated with prominent Jacobins like Felix Le Peletier, probably René Vatar, and others, as you can see in my posts here: Marie-Anne Babeuf: A Largely Forgotten Figure, In Honor of Gracchus Babeuf's Recent Anniversary, and Gracchus Babeuf's Position on Women's Rights. Moreover, this Jacobin arrest list met many specific criteria, even though among them were people who had committed nothing more than "insults and threats against the government" (excerpt from Natalie Petiteau) (in my opinion the widow Babeuf had to continue the fight in her own way like the widow of Marat as well as the sister of Marat hence the fact that she found herself in this list of arrests of the Jacobins in 1801 including with the two women after all Albertine Marat was a subscriber to the newspaper of the Tribun du Peuple). But for me, the worst part is the second time, during the First Malet Conspiracy case.
In fact, the widow Babeuf had her papers confiscated by the police and underwent a rather harsh interrogation, according to Jean Dautry. (This was the second time Marie-Anne Babeuf had run-ins with the Napoleonic police, and consequently, the second time Fouché targeted her). Marie-Anne Babeuf's son, Emile Babeuf, avoided arrest because, as far as I understand, he was in another country for work, so the police had no reason to arrest him.
So, Fouché, who had known Emile Babeuf as a child, years later attempted to have him arrested. Emile only avoided arrest because he was out of the country, if I understood correctly. Yes, Emile Babeuf would become an activist, but I don't think it was in that year. Furthermore, although the Babeufs were activists, they weren't involved in the First Malet Conspiracy (at least the confiscated papers were later returned).
Yes, I know that Fouché had manipulated Gracchus Babeuf until he realized who Fouché truly was and denounced him, but it still remains creepy. He knew well the wife of Gracchus Babeuf (that's certain, as she always assisted her husband) and their children (to the point where Gracchus temporarily trusted him with the welfare of his children, Emile and Camille). Years later, the repressive machine came down on them twice. I don't think Fouché can be excused by saying he was serving Bonaparte. I mean, Gaspard Monge protected Pache, Saint-Jean d'Angly protected Felix Le Peletier, and Réal probably protected the Babeufs.
Yes, we're likely talking about the destroyed friendship and even what Robespierre did to the Desmoulins couple, but I find what Fouché did, posthumously, to Gracchus Babeuf and especially to his children, creepy. With this, I think there's even more reason not to blame the widow of Collot d'Herbois for not standing in Fouché's way for what he did to her husband or for not fight for the political beliefs of her husband , and even for accepting the pension from Fouché. Just look at what he did to the Babeuf family. That's what would have happened to the widow of Collot d'Herbois in my opinion if she had opposed him.
P.S:If you want to learn more about the relationship between Gracchus Babeuf and Fouché, click here: Excerpts from Letters and Chapters of Historians.

1st of October: Mountain / A' chiad latha dhen DĂ mhair: A' bheinn
English Translation:
Since the day the dragon came, it seemed to Thorin he saw the mountain clearer with every step he took away from it, with each mile he and his family led the people of Erebor west, their backs to the mountain, its form in his mind grew firmer.
They toiled in strange lands, selling their skills like simple trades-folk instead of the masters they were. How low we are fallen, the young prince would seethe, still proud despite their loss.
Thorin's people had not been long in connecting Thror's hoard to the dragon's attack; the first to do so turned their backs on him, choosing to join their kin in the Iron Hills than suffer the Wilds under a leader they did not trust. Those who kept faith and remained, standing shoulder to shoulder with him, Thorin vowed to protect.
Even before the disappearance of Thrain, a shift came in Durin's Folk. They began to seek guidance from their prince, following his lead and rallying behind the dream he described for them: a new home in the west, far from hardship and strife where they may rebuild all that was lost.
But always in his mind lay the same thought, the mountain, the mountain, the mountain. In his dreams he looked on it from afar. Watching. Waiting. He would bring his people home, redeem his family for their grandfather's sickness that brought them all to ruin.
The birth of his sister's sons came in a time of peace. The older they grew, an ever-increasing choir that sung with the drums from the deep followed him....the mountain, the mountain, the mountain, they cried.
Oh the lonely mountain...
Scottish Gaelic translation:
Bhon dearbh lĂ a thĂ inig an nathair-sgiathach, chunnaic Thorin aâ bheinn nas soilleire le gach ceum a thog e air falbh, leis a h-uile mĂŹle a stiĂčiridh e is a theaghlach an t-sluagh Erebor gu Iar, an dromannan ris aâ bheinn, dhâfhĂ s a cumadh cruaidh anns na inntinn.
Dhâobraich iad ann an dĂčthchannan neĂČnaiche, aâ reic na sgilean aca mar gun robhar luchd-malairt farasta seach na maighstirean a bhathar. Cho ĂŹosal a tha sinn air tuiteam, smaoinich am prionnsa ĂČg le fuath geur, fhathast moiteil a dhâaindeoin an calltachd.
Cha tug e fada gus an cur an t-sluaigh a h-uile rud ri chĂšile: sabaid an nathair-sgiathach agus tasgaidh Thror. Tionndaidh na ciad feadhainn an aghaidh an RĂŹgh agus thagh iad a bhith aâ dol gu na luchd-dĂ imh aca anns na Cnuic Iarainn, an Ă ite a bhith aâ fulang san dĂčthaich fhiadhaich fo cheannard nach robh earb annta ann. Ghealladh ThĂČrin gun dĂŹon e na feadhainn nach deach, a bha a dhâfhantainn agus a chumail creideas leotha.
Eadhon ron thuras ThrĂ in nach tĂ inig e air ais bho fhathast, thĂ inig atharrachadh air na muinntir Durin. Thoiseach iad aâ sireadh stiĂčireadh bhon phrionnsa, a bhith ga leantainn agus aâ tighinn ri chĂšile air cĂčlaibh an aislinge a bha e ag iarraidh dhaibh: dachaigh Ăčr san Iar, fada air falbh bho dhorradas agus strĂŹ far am faodar a h-uile rud a bha air caill a thogail a-rithist.
Ach an-cĂČmhnaidh anns na inntinn bha an aon smaoin, aâ bheinn, aâ bheinn, aâ bheinn. Anns na aislingean, choimhead e air fad Ă s. Aâ coimhead. Aâ feitheamh. Thoireadh e an t-sluaigh aige dachaigh agus cuir ceart gach rud a rinn a sheanair a thoirt iad uile gu lom-sgrios.
ThĂ inig breith mhic a phiuthar ann an Ă m ciĂčin ach mar a dhâfhĂ s iad suas, dhâfhĂ s guth cĂČisir anns na inntinn a bha aâ seinn leis na drumaichean Ă s na h-uamhan. Aâ bheinn, aâ bheinn, aâ bheinn, dhâĂšigh iad.
