There's a big talk among fans about how Percy is Penelope and Annabeth is Odysseus. And while I'm completely agree, like 100% on board with that, I also see why some think that Percy is Odysseus in this situation. I may have not read it yet, but I heard a lot about how Percy is afraid to become a monster, and how his loyalty is his fatal flaw, and how he would let the world burn for the sake of those he cares about. And like, isn't it the same with Ody? He's loyal to the death to his family and would trade the world for them, and he DID and became the monster.
My point is just that I'm okay with both cases. They all share some traits and it just makes so much more opportunities for fun.

i keep seeing people say "omg Percy and Annabeth are Odysseus and Penelope!!!" and i wholeheartedly agree, but then they shoot themselves in the foot saying Percy is Odysseus and Annabeth is Penelope
I say this with absolutely no disrespect, but what the fuck are you talking about???
Which one of them, Percy or Annabeth, has the fatal flaw hubris, which is the exact reason Odysseus was so fucked (he pride led him to reveal is name to Polyphemus)? Which one of them, Percy or Annabeth, plans for every fight THOROUGHLY and CAREFULLY (I know very well that Percy is battle strategic, but let's be honest, it's a 50/50 chance he'll have a thorough plan that doesn't have a large chunk of impulsiveness and vibes)? Which one of them, Percy or Annabeth, is the literal DAUGHTER of Odysseus's patron and mentor?
We all know Percy would go ape shit if anyone hurt Annabeth, but who did we see ready to fight three random people because they didn't know where her missing boyfriend was? Who did we actually see go ape shit because she couldn't find her boyfriend? Who fell from first-ish glance?
On the other hand, who has the more "fight first, question later" mindset (which, for someone who hates Ares and tolerates Mars, he has a very Spartan like disposition)? Who likes to piss people off to get their attention (granted, that's both a Odysseus and Penelope thing, but I'm referring specifically to Percy sitting on his dad's throne compared to Penelope's "if your not my husband, move the immovable bed rq")?
If Percy and Annabeth are indeed Penelope and Odysseus reincarnations (which i do believe they are lol), Percy is so Penelope and Annabeth is Odysseus.
#every time i see “Percy is Odysseus and Annabeth is HIS Penelope” i was rip my hair out while screaming#Annabeth is PAINFULLY Odysseus coded no one can tell me otherwise#but#it does kinds depend of the situation#i will not sit here and claim i see NO Penelope in Annabeth or NO Odysseus is Percy#but if I'm going by majority Percy is Penelope and Annabeth is Odysseus#and I'm talking specifically about EPIC!Odysseus and EPIC!Penelope#I don't know there personalities in The Odyssey because I've never read The Odyssey#epic the musical#pjo#epic odysseus#epic penelope#percy jackson#annabeth chase

Annabeth as Odysseus. Both too smart, too cunning, with eyes that have seen to much and dreams too big for this world.
She dreams, sometimes, of the raging sea, of bloodied fields and weary soldiers. Of the warm sun and sand of an island that feels like home. When she wakes up, the memories tug at her mind, tantalisingly out of her reach. (When storms hit the shores of the camp, she hears the roar of waves against the beach echoing in the cabin and she hides under her covers, trembling and gasping in a fear she doesn’t understand).
The first time she meets Clarisse, a new camper with wild eyes and an angry scowl she nearly calls her Achilles. (The only one to notice her hesitation is Mr D. He looks pitying for a second before retreating behind his disdainful apathy).
Percy as Penelope. Both fiercely loyal, resilient and strong. To have them as friends, as lovers, is like having a home.
Percy who flinches at smelly Gabe’s voice, who sees other men superimposed with him, stronger, taller, familiar men. He feels dread and determination rise within him. He lifts his chin. Royalty never bows to anyone. (People forget Penelope came from Sparta after all. She has smiles full of teeth and a sword in her closet).

EPIC!Recarnation Au
I know that when we talk about Odysseus being reincarnated as Percy and Penelope being reincarnated as Annabeth and that's great and all but what if it was the other way around? Here me out here.
Percy, who Poseidon calls his favourite child, is the reincarnated wife of and current boyfriend of the reicarnation of Poseidon's least favourite mortal?
And Athena's daughter who (let's be honest with ourselves) she doesn't treat well, is the reincarnation of her favourite her whom she had a rocky ending with?
Hermes and Annabeth hating eachother because of Luke but Hermes loving Odysseus?
And Athena didn't dislike Peneople, I mean at the end of the Odessy she used her magic to give Penelope and Odysseus extra fun time after Odysseus returned. And Penelope was an amazing weaver.
Just imagine Percy being able to weave flawlessly and it confusing everybody how he just sort of knows and Percy just sort of does it?
And Annabeth being an amazing archer because of Odysseus's skills with the bow? And then when Annabeth first meets Tyson, espcailly if Annabeth remembers but Percy doesn't (yet)? Odysseus is having a PTSD attack seeing a Cyclops so near Percy and Percy is just... chilling.
After Mt. St. Helens' Annabeth realizing how Penelope must have felt for twenty years? And now Percy is going through all the quests that Odysseus went through and then some?
But what really sounds cool is that Odysseus and Annabeth and Percy and Penelope share the same fatal flaws.
Odysseus and Annabeth both have Hubris they have to overcome that much is obvious. But Penelope and Percy but have deadly loyalty. We've seen how Percy's loyalty works in the books and Penelope spent 20 years waiting for her husband to return home, when he was most likely dead and it almost got her and her son killed?
Delicous.

I heard someone say this, so we’re sharing.
Rick Riordan loves his long standing romances to mirror Grecian romance myths.
Percy and Annabeth mirror Odysseus and Penelope, how they love each other and Percy was thrown onto the island of Ogyia with Calypso. Even through the wars, he fought for her. He fought Polyphemus. He could never forget Annabeth regardless of what was thrown at him.
Nico and Will mirror Orpheus and Eurydice. They both went to the underworld. Will could never leave without his Eurydice, Nico. He traveled the Underworld and turned around on the stairs to see Nico. He used song to open the stairs of Orpheus. He proved multiple times that he would not let himself live without Nico there. He was weaker than Nico, but he would fight for him. Their love had the approval of the Gods and Hades, in specific.
Honorable mention: Silena Beauregard and Clarisse La Rue. You CANNOT tell me they weren’t in love with each other in the good luck, babe/casual/I wish you were a boy sense. anyways. Achilles and Patroclus. Clarisse who despised most except Silena. Silena who was kind-natured and sweet but still could be strong. Clarisse who was relentless, cruel, strong, and a valiant fighter. Clarisse who boycott the war. Silena who wore Clarisse’s uniform to break the boycott. Clarisse who brutally k*lled others because the one she held most close to her heart died. Clarisse who loved her best friend, Silena.

Ok, I wanted to talk about Annabeth being the reincarnation of Odysseus.
First of all, yes, Annabeth and not Percy. Here's why: they have the same fatal flaw (hubris), fight in similar ways (relying heavily in words and tricks), as well as this comparison being made in the Sea of Monsters itself several times, in which Annabeth (Odysseus) calls herself Nobody (again) to the Cyclops, is the one that wanted to tied herself to listen to the sirens (I know that part was changed in Epic, but let's pretend not for the sake of the intention of the comparison in the book), etcetera. In addition, I know Percy going insane when someone hurts Annabeth is something the whole fandom agrees, which is something he and Odysseus share, but let's be honest, Annabeth does not play about him neither. I would say she went even more nuts about him missing in HOO than he did when she went missing in Titan Curse. Percy could also totally be Penelope, considering their loyalty.
That being said, what I wanted to focus on this post is Athena, and how she made the same mistake again with another version of her protégée, this time her daughter. If we consider that the events of Epic are what happened in PJO, not only Athena (or Minerva, so close enough) abandoned Odysseus again in The Mark of Athena, but she said to Annabeth that she wished Odysseus was there because he would understand the map (that's a line about that in the book). She compared Annabeth to Odysseus, not realising they are the same soul.
Also, if the events of Epic happened in PJO, then it means Athena gave up of creating a world where people held each other with a little more empathy, like she said she wished to do in "I can't help but wonder". She had probably tried for a few centuries, became kinder. I even think that might be why she started to have demigods children: to a child of Athena to be born she needs a real connection with a mortal, which she didn't allow herself before Odysseus. However, with the pass of time (my personal belief is that the Romans treatment towards her would be a main factor in that), she went back to be colder. She has a ruthless father who didn't support her mission to be kinder and told her to be away from her kids, as well as humans who didn't pay her the same respect as they used to.
Then it came Annabeth, this child, her child, who is her favourite, and part of that it's because she reminds her of her favourite champion, her first friend, even if she doesn't acknowledge that. Unaware to her, they are the same person, and this time she's his mother. This version of Odysseus looks up to her so much because her mortal family couldn't understand her and she still carries the admiration Odysseus felt towards her, but without any of the bad memories.
And yet.
Yet Athena breaks her (his) trust again. Yet Athena disapproves Percy (Penelope), who in any life, Odysseus (Annabeth) would do anything for. More than that, Athena is one of the main reasons that Annabeth took so long to accept Percy as the love of her life.
So Annabeth (Odysseus) resents her again, and when Athena realises who her daughter is (because I am sure she would eventually) it's already too late. She made the same mistake, and she can hear a voice in her head calling her "Selfish and prideful and vain", but this time, this voice sounds like Annabeth's.

Tossing Epic & PJO together like:
Aphrodite: *staring at Percy & Annabeth while giggling excitedly* I haven't seen a love story like this since Odysseus & Penelope! They're so perfectly devoted to eachother!
Athena: *reluctantly softens at the reminder of her favorite ancient heroes, and the thought that if Percy can accurately be compared to Odysseus in any way then maybe him being with Annabeth isn't the worst*
Poseidon: *PTSD flashbacks and a mental note to self to never get between Percy & Annabeth in any way because the idea of a 600 Strike reprise fueled by his own powers is suddenly his worst nightmare*

I love the ships where they’re entranced by each other—Their souls entangled as they act as one. Kissing is unnecessary because what they have is so much better than kissing or intimacy. They don’t have to kiss to show each other how much they love or appreciate them. They’re like the Greek mythology stories about searching for your other halves, but they found their other half. They forget everything around themselves because they have each other. If the world was ending right then and there, they wouldn’t care because they had each other in that moment. Their destinies intertwined to meet each other again and again in every single universe. Every different person they could be and they’d still love each other like the last. Where it transcends any feelings you’ve had before because this is a whole different level. Where one would become so happy with their person that they become emotional about it. The yearning for each other when one is missing because it feels like something has been taken from them. The reaching out in front of themselves for the other despite being so far because they yearn for their missing half. The going to hell and back just to be with them.
Where they are not themself without their person.

Huge thanks to them for writing this and contining you work on it!

Percabeth Reincarnation AU
UHH,
500 more words of a different take on the percabeth reincarnation au by @literallyjustforlurking
This is still in progress, but I wanted to share here before It ended up another short fic and while it was still a drabble!
Hades knew when souls should enter his realm, at least, the important souls. He was waiting for a set, they should be here any day now. Together, never separated since the 20 year journey the husband had made.
They never arrived.
His brothers were never going to let him live this down.
When Sally Jackson fell in lust with the sea god, she didn’t really consider how the sins of the father would pass onto her son. Percy was such a sweet boy, but Sally was warned to try and keep her son from learning too much about the gods too young. Scared it would draw in monsters she trued to foster other interests in her son, anything but the Greek deities. She often offered soft spoken prayers to her former lover and his wife, aware that someday Percy may have to take refuge under the surface of the water and not wanting to cause strife in her former lover’s home. She often felt an amused chuckle when she offered prayers to the queen of Atlantis, but short of getting to be there and talk with her, some blue candy would have to make do.
So when little 5 year old Percy came home from school clutching a picture book copy of the Odyssey Sally’s heart almost stopped.
“Hunny, what’s that?” She asked her son as he held the book close to his chest at bed time the same night it came home.
“It’s the story of the man from the dreams mama”. Came her son’s reply
“What dreams hunny?”
“The island ones! He has to leave home for a big fight and it takes him a really really long time to return!”
Sally tried to keep her voice calm and a small smile on her face as she talked to her son. “Percy, hunny, are these dreams scary?”
“Not really mama,” He said as he opened the book and started to stare at the pictures.
The odyssey became his favorite bed time story, Sally hoped the depiction of his father wouldn’t hurt their son as he got older. She also hoped he’d grow out of this phase soon, but the longer Percy’s fascination with the odyssey stayed the more relaxed Sally grew about her son learning about the greek pantheon. By the time he was swept away in it all he no longer talked about the island dreams, realizing they were something special. Sally did however add Athena to her small prayer list, If Percy had a connection to Odysseus, He had a connection to the goddess of wisdom.
Percy always dreamed of a ship sailing away from an island, a loom in a lonely bedroom, and the feeling of sadness and longing. As a little kid he didn’t know what it meant, but as he grew he knew it was special and secret. His mom knew only what he told before he learned to keep his mouth shut. Percy knew though, that his dreams would lead him somewhere amazing. The issue? He only knew longing, be it for the water or for something else.
Annabeth Chase never fit anywhere until she made it to camp, but even camp felt wrong. She was missing something, someone. It was more than just her mother’s approval. She knew she was built… wrong almost. She would look in a mirror and sometimes swear she saw a different person liking back, someone tired, someone who was searching.
Neither of them noticed the first summer, but Percy and Annabeth both felt better, more settled, after Percy came to camp.

hi yes if ruereguard are the patrochilles parallel then percabeth are the Odysseus and Penelope parallel BUT (and I cannot stress this enough) annabeth is Odysseus
here's why:
Odysseus is a character who is the epitome of hubris. he's the smartest person in every room he walks into, he was the main strategist for the entire Greek army, everyone was looking to him for guidance and approval. he's Athena's champion (and pet liar) but eventually loses favour with her because pride comes before the fall. the overarching story of the odyssey is that he's trying to go home to his wife and will do whatever it takes with his cunning and wits to get there over the course of 10 years.
sounds awfully familiar to Annabeth Chase, favoured daughter of Athena, general and main strategist of CHB, smartest person in the room, prideful, strong and the person everyone looks to for approval. Athena holds annabeth in high regards but will put her aside the moment she "embarrasses her". and not only did Annabeth spend months trying to get Percy back, but its approx. 10 years from her arrival at CHB and the end of HoO, in which her overarching goal is to create something permanent - and she achieves that, though changed in unimaginable ways.
Percy and Penelope may be a bit of a stretch until you look at the main thing the two of them have in common - their unending and unconditional loyalty. Penelope sat and weaved day in and day out for maybe 20 years as men ate her out of house and home, because she would not abandon her husband and the hope that he would return home. by all accounts, it could have been easier for her to simply accept whatever offer suited her most as queen of Ithaca but she didn't. and we know that loyalty is our boy Percy's fatal flaw, and that one of the only things he could remember was annabeth.

Ok, so I am HOWLING with laughter.
So, have you heard? People are comparing Percy and Annabeth to................Odysseus and Penelope.
When I heard this, you don't know how funny it was to me. I almost choked on my spit. LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
Penelope would NEVER hit or insult Odysseus. She doesn't play mind games with him and they communicate properly.
Odysseus and Penelope are not toxic. Percabeth is.
Also, Rick Riordan is LEAGUES worse than Homer. Like, the guy cannot even compare to the ACTUAL GREEK POET.
And people are actually comparing the two.
Percy Jackson IS good at times, but it will NEVER compare to Homer's compositions. Literally never.
TBH that's just my personal opinion.
Also, Homer actually composed many of the Greek epics that we still read today.
I get why people would want to compare them, but there is no comparison, really. It's so fucking funny to me.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on Percabeth compared to Odysseus and Penelope?
That comparison alone has ruined the New Year for me. It's an insult to the Odyssey. Hell, it's an insult to the recently released Ithaca Saga of Epic the Musical.
But seriously, are these things actually being said? Cause that puts Percabeth stans from delusional category to brain dead.
Homer's Iliad and The Odyssey are one of history's most reputed myths of all time. And the primary source of Greek mythology for many people. I am certain Rick himself referred Homer's works for ideas and references. Even Riordan himself would be ashamed to compare his writing to Homer, in even the slightest manner.
Now to Odysseus and Penelope; the greatest couple of all time, truly and undeniably. The orignal eternal love. Even Hera, the goddess of marriage and family, considers Odysseus and Penelope's marriage bed sacred. Which Odysseus carved out of a living tree as a symbol of their undying love and so that it could never be moved.
Odysseus crawled through hell to get to Penelope and Telemachus. He survived and won the 10 year long Trojan war, defeated/ tricked a Cyclops, countless mythical monsters, Circe, Calypso, and even Zeus himself and at last Poseidon. That alone is beyond comprehension. Because Odysseus isn't a demigod or any specially blessed being. No, he is just an ordinary mortal, a genius mortal, one trained by the wisdom goddess but an ordinary mortal all the same. Yes, he is one of a kind genius, but these are literally eldritch creatures compared to him.
Let me put it this way, Odysseus is the OG Batman. He is who all smart fictional human characters aspire to be.
The Odyssey is literally about the all transcending power of human will. Of Odysseus's sheer fucking will to get back home, to his wife and son. That's it. A common desire of a common man, yet so miraculously burning and indomitable in Odysseus's mind that it alone outshines his extraordinary genius.
He quite literally died on his way there. Had to hitch a ride through the Underworld and then some.
Then he had to sacrifice his ENTIRE CREW, HIS FRIENDS, HIS COMRADES to get back to Ithaca. Mind you, Odysseus had the record of getting every single one of his 600 men alive out of Trojan War. The only one to have done so. And he had to lose some to the tragedies and then WILLINGLY SACRIFICE others to get back to Penelope.
I don't think there are words enough to encapsulate Odysseus's dedication.
Now Penelope. The thing is, she is just as bloody impressive. The Queen of Ithaca and a Spartan Princess, she is also one of a kind. Throughout Odysseus's departure and the suitors' invasion , not five, not ten, 108 SUITORS, Penelope held her own, keeping the castle, her son Telemachus and herself secure. All the while, raising Telemachus and running the kingdom on her own as well.
She tricked the suitors into an eternally futile game of trying to lift Odysseus's bow and shoot with it. Tricked them by telling them she was weaving Odysseus's shroud, which, when finished, would signify that she is picking a new husband. Each day, she would weave for all suitors to see, and each night, she would unravel the shroud. All in an attempt to stall. Among the many other ways, she did so. Including STEADFASTLY DENYING EACH AND EVERY SUITOR CONSTANTLY FOR YEARS AS THEY ASKED FOR HER HAND, NEVER ONCE LOSING HOPE OR FAITH IN ODYSSEUS.
When Odysseus returns, disguised as a beggar, she not only immediately recognizes him but subtly helps him in killing the suitors, which then Odysseus and Telemachus proceed to do.
All 108 suitors dead in a night. Add that to 600 men under Odysseus's command. 708 lives murdered and then some all for Odysseus and Penelope to reunite.
And this is me abridging the whole thing. Imagine the struggle, the suffering, the mental and physical trauma. 20 years straight. You can't fathom it.
I don't think I have words enough to state how repulsively disrespectfully wretched this comparison is. I would use an analogy, but it's so horrendous that I don't think there's one that suffices.
I literally have more than half the posts dedicated to dismantling the delusion of percabeth being a perfect ship, so I won't preach to the choir, but I mean Annabeth's fatal flaw is Hubris and Percy's is Personal Loyalty. Go figure.
If that isn't enough, Percy jumped in Tartarus for Annabeth. She fell, but Percy jumped, among the many other ways he has saved her from countless deaths. And Annabeth offers him what in return? It would have been alright if she gave him nothing in return, but somehow, the situation is EVEN WORSE.
Physical and mental demeaning. Toxic and controlling attitude and of course BLAMING HIM FOR GETTING KIDNAPPED AND HAVING HIS MEMORY WIPED BY A GODDESS. WOW, THAT SOUNDS SO SIMILAR TO PENELOPE AND ODYSSEUS.
Not to mention, Penelope accepted her husband, as he was. Even after being so completely changed by his tragic journey that he was quite literally NO LONGER HIMSELF.
And Percy when had to CHOKE AKHYLS WHO WAS DEFINITELY GOING TO KILL HIM AND ANNABETH, WAS KILLING HIM AND ANNABETH, OUT OF SELF DEFENSE AND SHE BLAMES HIM AND FORCES HIM TO PROMISE NOT TO USE HIS POWERS TO DEFEND HIMSELF???
WHAT THE FUCK??? And sure it would have been ignorable had it not had any long term effects. BUT NO PERCY ALMOST KILLS HIMSELF OUT OF KEEPING HIS PROMISE TO ANNABETH.
Call them whatever the hell you want but DON'T EVER COMPARE THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO ODYSSEUS AND PENELOPE.
PERCY DESERVES INFINITELY BETTER THAN ANNABETH. Enough said, really.
