Hello friends!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 fairy tale retellings!! Now, I know this topic is not for everyone. In fact, it’s pretty much designed purely for me. But, as host, that’s my prerogative every so often. And, I’m not sorry. Sorry. But, for not being sorry. Not for the topic. I’ll stop now. Apparently, somewhere in the world 26 February is National Fairy Tale…

@dragonskxn it seems a group of geriatrics have joined the soupfest...
~
"Try not to drool in the sssoup, you abssssolute caveman. Rabies is the lasst thing anyone would want in their food." The serpent scolded the fox, pulling at one of Willy's elongated ears and causing him to whine.
Willy, in return, of course snapped and tried to nip at Cornelius' hand, lucky for him- the rabid fox missed the target and dropped his item he intended to add to the soup. He called it Pudge. Short for Pumpkin Smudge.
"My ingredient!" The man exclaimed as he scrambled to recollect the vegetable. Willy had brought a large pumpkin he held in his arms. It seemed a little old, not fresh out of a pumpkin patch but still edible; he had sloppily carved what seemed to be a pig's face on it (probably an attempt at picturing the dragoness' pet hog). The sudden movement and the weight of the food item caused him to lose his footing and drop the pumpkin, which rolled away from him.
"Now look what you've done! You BASTARD!" The fox yelled from afar... Versy chuckled at the poor man's misfortune and continued slithering along without him.
He carried a storage basket in one of his arms. Inside it was two freshly baked loafs of brioche bread, gingerbread, a piece of roasted swan (safe to assume he ate the rest), plum puddings, a comically large truffle that had been washed so clean, neatly cut into slices and picked from any parasites that may have been in it that one wouldn't believe this thing was buried deep into the dirt just a day or two ago, and sea grapes. Not all of these were i gredients for the soup, obviously, only the truffle was meant to be ingredient for the 'main event' at the dragon's cottage, the rest? Well! They were only to be considered little snacks to nibble on for everyone. And of course he would be eager to hear other's opinions on his food, which he always simply loved to discuss.
He slithered alongside a distinguishable gentleman wearing a dapper vertical-lined tuxedo and a red rose on his chest that stood out the most in all of his black and white fashion. Maxwell!
He said nothing as the serpent lightly bullied the fox man earlier, only appearing slighting annoyed but ultimately unamused. Versy's size and appearence made him a tad uneasy, but nothing he wasn't used to already in The Constant, what with all the giant monsters he created and the beasts that came with each season. He had a personal vendetta against the Bearger for destroying his beehives.
In his arms he carried none other than Chester! The little living container panted just a like a dog, content. Inside, he carried not just his own eyebone, but also several bundlewraps that stored the ingredients he brought for Annalise: several berries, four drumsticks, a pair of frog's legs, two tallbird eggs, a leafy meat, two eggplants, a mandrake, as well as some uh... more questionable items, like snake skin, a batilisk wing, a deerclop's eyeball and several pieces of monster meat (hopeful their 'harmful flavor' would no doubt be neutralized by Anna upon being mixed with so many other of her ingredients in her cooking like it would sometimes happen when he made meatballs with it... or maybe, best care scenario, it wouldn't harm her at all, like it happens with the spider child, since she was not all human in nature like him).
The mandrake was his ingredient for the soup. Much like Willy's pumpkin, it didn't seem all that fresh either; it had some scratches that gave the item some darkened spots here and there- the most noticeable dark spot was the massive stab wound at the center, but it wasn't outright rotten. At best it may have been a little stale but not bad. He felt a little embrassed giving her an item in such a condition, but hey- mandrakes were no easy task in finding and killing!
There rest... were all a gift. He knew Anna loved cooking and was terrific at it, how could he not? Especially given the conditions of his ingredient. Of course he'd bring gifts for the lady herself. One such gift that was quite ah.. eye-catching, was small but very round blue egg, with lime green, chunky spots all over it, simply wrapped in a black shadowy bow (mostly to emphasize that it was meant as a gift and not as the ingredient given the circumstances).
Annalise's a farmer... and, from what little he knew so far, a bird-like dragon, so she must know a thing or two about hatching eggs..
#maxwell has gifted anna a doydoy egg :3#mf be like: okay i know youre kind of like a bird so if you ever get like. broody.#here. have Egg of a species that is as endagered as yours is#say pal...you dont look so good ( maxwell )#the serpent ( cornelius )#rabid jealousy ( willy )#dragonskxn // ₊˚.༄ ೃ ᴀɴɴᴀʟɪꜱᴇ ༺ ˖࣪#dragonsoupfest2023#food tw

Devilman Crybaby meets Marvel’s Venom in Exordia, the science fiction debut of Seth Dickinson, author of The Traitor Baru Cormorant.
Ssrin Character Illustration by Julie Dillon
WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Meet Anna Sinjari, a refugee and disaffected office worker eking an existence in New York City. Her life is about to be upended by Ssrin, an alien with eight serpent heads, no qualms with cold-blooded murder, and an appetite for turtles (yum).
The universe is governed by seven passions, seven patterns which appear again and again, across species and across time. Anna and Ssrin are bound by the last and the greatest. The cosmos itself ships their very souls. Specifically for them, that means they’ll have to outmaneuver spies, armies, and government agencies to save humanity from a diabolical alien entity, hellbent on pinioning the souls of every creature on earth.
Exordia is expansive adventure science fiction that reads like a race-against-the-clock thriller in the vein of Michael Crichton, but steeped in the irony, humor, and pain of the Internet age. An alien-human epic for those who've always rooted for the monster.

📚The Good Omens graphic novel Kickstarter mega post 📚
As we enter the last hours of the Good Omens graphic novel Kickstarter, here’s a recap of ALL the items you can get and how to get them. We’ll also answer some of the main questions you’ve had.
Get yours here!
*
TIERS
THE HUMAN TIER (£25 GBP) includes one copy of the Good Omens graphic novel. All of the stretch goal embellishments (foiling, ribbon, foreword, afterword, extra pages, etc) cover every level (including early bird). Every backer also gets a bookmark. This also includes the foreword and afterword by Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Jon Hamm.
*
THE SERPENT TIER (£40 GBP) includes one copy of the Good Omens graphic novel, a dust jacket* featuring an alt cover by Frank Quitely and Loot Pack #1*, which is full of goodies. *Stretch goals have added to these items, full info below.
The alt cover dust jacket is now reversible, with the other side featuring this by Rachael Stott in b&w.
✔️Serpent gets the dust jacket for your graphic novel.
✖ It does not have a print of this image. The colour version is available as an add on.
Loot Pack #1 originally featured 2 x Colleen Doran prints (including a brand new piece), a postcard and bookmark. Fans have unlocked additional Colleen prints, some colouring pages, as well as *many* prints from other artists… You have unlocked prints from Rachael Stott (different to the alt cover image), Sarah Graley, David Aja, Mark Buckingham, Tanya Roberts, Paul Kidby, Alice Oseman and Anna Morozova, as well as the Frank Quitely cover as a print.
We’ve been asked a lot about Alice Oseman's prints, so to clarify: if you back the Serpent Tier or above, you will get Alice's print featuring Aziraphale, as well as the newly commissioned Crowley to complete the pair.
*
THE HELLHOUND TIER (£120 GBP) includes the prior tiers + Loot Pack #2, ft. Crowley and Aziraphale enamel pins, stickers, and a pack of the Good Omens trading cards. These will be playable. Tier backers can also get rare cards in their order at random.
*
THE WITCHFINDER TIER (£200 GBP) has all of this, plus an exquisite map by Julien Labit. Dimensions will be approximately 594 x 841 mm.
*
THE DEMON TIER (£320 GBP) is a creative punch from head to toe, with five additional enamel pins (including Dog), some snazzy socks, and two creator themed notebooks, one for your inner Pratchett, the other for your inner Gaiman.
*
THE HORSEMEN TIER (£500 GBP) is the Demon Tier + A3 Giclee print from the graphic novel, signed by Colleen Doran, plus the exclusive Beelzebub enamel pin, and Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett collector's enamel pin set.
*
THE OBSIDIAN TIER (£3k) builds on the Horsemen Tier with copies of the new, limited Obsidian editions (GO illustrated edition, graphic novel & William the Antichrist), signed by Neil Gaiman & artists, and a one-of-a-kind trading card by Colleen Doran.
*
For booksellers, we have two options: The Small Bookshop Tier (10 copies) and The Bookshop Tier (20 copies), both of which offer a 50% trade discount. There are also add ons of 10 and 20 copies for shops looking to order more.
*
ADD ONS
The campaign itself ends at 11.59pm UK time on 31 August, so there’s still time to get your pledges in. Let’s move onto the add ons via Kickstarter...
How do you add more to your pledge? This link on Kickstarter should help. You effectively re-select the tier you’ve chosen, and then it will take you to the add on section. This works even if your tier is sold out, or was time sensitive (Nightingale).
Unlike tiers, you are not limited to one choice with add ons. You can get additional copies of the graphic novel, mugs, slipcases, the graphic novel oversized edition, and more. Rachael Stott's Eternal Encounter print is available also.
*
A.Z. FELL & CO ADD ONS. Includes: Bookmark, mug, socks, tote bag. The bookmark is different / higher end than those included with every copy of the graphic novel.
*
TRADING CARDS. You can get a trading card booster pack. These will have at least six cards. The Hellhound Tier is where to get the larger, playable base pack. Base packs will be available down the road via the new merch store, but cheapest via the Kickstarter.
*
ENAMEL PIN ADD ONS We have two pairs of Aziraphale and Crowley pins (£10 per set). We also have mystery packs of three available (£12). You can see the full pin information and designs so far at http://goodomenshq.com.
*
While pins #005 onwards will be part of the mystery packs, they may pop up at events or in flash sales of specific items. We will give fans as much notice as possible when these exciting events will happen.
*
BOOKSHOP ADD ONS. Bookshops who have backed either of the retail tiers will be able to add packs of 10 or 20 additional books onto their pledge. These tiers must be delivered to a bookshop address. These are also at 50% trade discount.
*
OBSIDIAN ADD ONS. While the Obsidian Tier collects all three books, you can add the Obsidian Edition of the Good Omens illustrated edition, the Good Omens graphic novel, or William the Antichrist - signed by Neil - to pledges at any level.
*
Add ons are available for every tier level. Add ons will also be available after the Kickstarter, however will be cheapest via the campaign. We know a lot of people have been asking, so if 31 August is too short notice, worry not!
*
FAQ
Q: Will the graphic novel be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. It will be available via PledgeManager, and subsequently on goodomenshq.com when that becomes the wider merch store.
Q: Will tiers be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. Some will be available for an additional time on PledgeManager to allow those who couldn’t access the Kickstarter for a variety of reasons. This will go live at some point after the project finishes.
Q: Will the add ons be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. Though Kickstarter will be the cheapest way to get the add ons, these will be made more widely available at a slight price increase after the campaign ends.
Q: I couldn’t back the Kickstarter due to payment issues. Can I use Paypal / other methods? A: We believe PledgeManager will be able to integrate the wider payment methods, including Paypal, for those who couldn’t back with a card. This is TBC. Longer term, this will be an option on goodomenshq.com when it opens as the official merch store.
Q: Shipping is charged after. Why do we not have the final numbers yet? A: We’ve been working across the campaign to bring estimates down further; the page will have new numbers as we have them pre-31 Aug, however we will be working over the coming months to get the best price for backers worldwide once the weights are locked in. Our goal is to get the best value for supporters and not overcharge by locking in this early.
Q: If it will all be available later, what difference is there in backing the Kickstarter? A: All backers get an individual discount code for the Good Omens HQ merch store when it opens in the future, so you can get money off further items. We’ve got some fun things that we’re planning to do via backer updates post-campaign too. More on that… later. You’ll still get plenty of ineffable joy either way though!
Q: Is there anywhere I can sign up for updates? A: Yes! Good Omens HQ will have a mailing list. You can sign up here.
Get yours here!

Good Omens Graphic Novel Masterpost ❤ 🐍😊
(you know how I like doing masterposts :)🥰 - I will update the masterpost as the kicstarter updates ❤)
What is Good Omens: the Official (and Ineffable) Graphic Novel?
The Good Omens: the Official (and Ineffable) Graphic Novel is the upcoming adaptation of the glorious 1990 Good Omens novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman in a graphic novel form. The adaptation is done by the talented Colleen Doran who worked with Neil on several other of his projects such as Chivalry, The Sandman, or Snow, Glass, Apples. The adaptation done under the gentle eyes of both Neil Gaiman and the Terry Pratchett Estate so don't worry that it will be unfaithful <3.
How can I help/join/pre-order?

Video by Neil, Colleen and Rob :)
Rob Wilkins: Judgment day is almost upon us. One angel, one demon want to do something about it, but there's the small problem of the missing Antichrist.
Neil Gaiman: The good Omens Kickstarter - we've got a fabulous, glorious, amazing adaptation of Good Omens waiting for you in graphic novel form.
Rob: Neil Gaiman was the first person, the first journalist to interview Terry after the publication of The Colour of Magic. They stayed friends and Neil met Terry again and discussed the idea of this novel that he had that he really ought to get written down and he sent the idea through to Terry and a little while later Terry called him back and said: you bastard I want that idea for myself, and Terry offered to either buy the idea or to work with Neil on the project, and as Neil said at the time it would be like Michelangelo calling saying: here give me a hand to paint this ceiling, so of course Neil and Terry worked on it together.
Colleen Doran: Hi and welcome to my studio. I am pleased and excited beyond words to talk to you tonight about Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's good Omens the graphic novel adaptation. You have no idea how happy I am to be working on this aside from the fact that I get to sit around and draw Azirphale and Crowley all day and who wouldn't want that - oh this is fun this is pure candy and I'm working very very hard to bring you a faithful adaptation. I love this book I love this project and bringing it to you is pure joy. Thanks a lot for your support. Thank you.

dragonskxn:
"I don't suppose you're familiar with the myth of selkies?" Annalise tilted her head at him. She couldn't blame him for being baffled; dragonskins were rare enough as is.
"I can turn into a wyvern by simply putting my dragon skin around my shoulders, like a cloak. No one else can use it, mind you, but having it taken away from me...well, I'll lose my power."
The serpent's expression lit up for a moment, before deflating into a disappointed confusion.
"Don't suppose, indeed..." he replied in a sardonic tone.
"The only myth I'm familiar with with a similiar pronounciation to selkie, is the kelpie. Aquatic horse entities who's skin is so sticky, it has quite a reputation of trapping many humans with it who try petting it, mainly children, and they drown as the horse slowly walks into the depths of a river or lake it resides into. Allegedly, it feasts on the corpses of those it kills!" He exclaimed gleefully, "isn't that interesting?" He smiled, before a metaphorical lightbulb turned on in his head that this was in no way related to the actual topic, and he was just rambling.
"Err- besides that- yes, I mean no, I don't think I'm familiar with selkies.."
His expression cringed for a moment, not because of Annaline explaining what her dragonskin was for- but because his uh, 'most recent meal' didn't quite settle down with him, he politely excused himself a moment to turn to his snake half and throw a punch, towards wherever part he felt was bothering him, with a mildly annoyed expression. Damn postmortem spasms.
He cleared his throat, soon returning to this alleged 'mythical' creature of a lady with a smile,
"Ah- why don't you just eat your dragonskin then? Wouldn't that be more simple than wearing it around and risk having someone steal it, if it's that important? Put a spell on yourself so that it remains glued to your body! That way you won't lose your power..."
He trailed off before snatching her dragonskin himself,
"If someone were to take it." He finished with an expression of mischief- having just proven his point, before opening up this feathery cloak and gingerly wrapping it around Annaline's shoulders.
SALVAGE from Versy to Anna 🥰 (he definitely ate the thief that stole from Anna <3)
- @viciouslyfilthy
51. SALVAGE : for one muse to retrieve the other’s belongings from a thief.
"M-My satchel...you managed to get it back?" Hands trembling, Annalise took it gently back from Versy and peeked inside. Everything was still there — her money, the tiny trinkets she'd collected, her dragon skin, carefully folded up...
"Mr. Versy, thank you so much...I..." She was practically tearing up forever. "If I hadn't gotten it back, I...I wouldn't know what to do..."

On the Cover of a Grimdark Magazine
Hey, Tumblr. Long time, no tumbl.
Just wanted to mention that the first-ever Gentlemen Bastards short story, "Locke Lamora and the Bottled Serpent," will be appearing as a two-part extravaganza in Grimdark Magazine's issues 40 and 41. Issue 40, GDM's tenth anniversary celebration, is available for you to grab right now:
bit.ly/GdM_Issue40
"Locke Lamora and the Bottled Serpent" returns us to Camorr some months after Locke's 13th birthday, which was described in the "Orphan's Moon" chapter of The Republic of Thieves. Locke, working as a bar-back in a rough-and-tumble Right People tavern, deals with some issues, including the fact that his only real friend on the premises is an aging mercenary named Mazoc Szaba who has an addiction to drinking poisonous wine for contests of chance. Since there are no flashbacks in Thorn, this story was the first time in quite a while I'd "gone back" to Camorr, and I found the experience pretty emotional. The good folks at GDM were lovely enough to give me this chance to play in their pages, so if you harbor any affection for Locke, give 'em a shot. The individual issue should be about $4, and also comes with a load of fiction and non-fiction from people including Anna Smith Spark, Mark Lawrence, Christopher Buehlman, Cat Rambo, and many others!
If you missed my August updates on novellas, signed bookplates, and other matters, check it all out at: http://www.scottlynch.us/updates.html
And hey, if you didn't see my short story "Selected Scenes From the Ecologies of the Labyrinth," published in the Sunday Morning Transport in July, give it a read! No charge.

Malevolent Liveblog: Episode 15.
Spoilers beneath the cu(l)t:
Beautiful piano.
OH CHRIST I FORGOT IT'S THIS BIT
NONONONO
How did I forget this happens here. This opening was TRAUMATIC.
Phenomenal acting from Harlan though.
Note to John: Arthur is very much not OK.
Asking some VERY interesting questions here, buddy.
Still wanna know if Anna links in more.
A Web, you say?
Oooooh, Vanguard lore.
"I'm not doing it for you ... but you're welcome." The audacity of this man.
Mountains of Madness? Mountains of Madness tonite, King??
"Like the base of a mountain" yooooooo
Arthur Lester has the purest (and rarest) laugh.
Hey Alexa, play Darude: Sandstorm
uh oh
May prove ultimately fatal? Damn.
Who's to say it will hold our weight? Hmmmm
"long and limbless" serpent? Serpent? Giant draconic serpent? Yesssssss
ELECTRICAL giant draconic serpent!
Playing with lightning here, boys.
Lads don't kill, just leave.
I can't believe they used a metal pole to try and kill an electrical beastie. Besties why.
"That was not a well-thought-out plan". Well, it is you, Artie (/hj).
NEVER just call it dead.
But also noooo
"Thank you"
I'm guessing that one is for John, huh?
"... the front of the boat"
"The bow."
"Right."
... cute.
Shaving kit! Arthur is about to be ✨️dapper✨️.
Why *IS* there a boat in the Dreamlands?
You don't know what a bow is but you can identify the Captain's Quarters, buddy?
Ohhh. Was the King here? Leading people, leaving traces? That would make sense.
Frank's (?) notes are like my funky shorthand.
Never realised how like a TTRPG this is written. John sounds like such a GM. Love it.
OH, of COURSE John would be feeling the sand in the eye. Poor kid.
I like this being almost a reverse sea adventure.
Boat? Check
Cliffs? Check
Storm? Check.
"So we're at sea?"
"Nah, desert."
"... what."
Hilarious.
Poor creature :(
"It's already so hot" MOOD, BUDDY.
"You can make me whole agaiiiii-" no, wait, we don't want that.
Well, that escalated quickly.
OH, so if Artie dies, John takes over?
I mean ... huh.
METAPHORICALLY SPEAKING
Harlan Guthrie your phrasing is so eloquent. Superb. Great job.
Arthur getting his steps in. 🚶♂️
To the right, trace the wall now y'all.
Well this sounds lovely.
Arthur thinks the same.
It is genuinely cool though.
MOSS MOSS MOSS MOSS
THE MOSS SPEAKS
SENTIENT, WHISPERING MOSS
Maybe not the time to interrogate the meaning of fear, but eh.
What is it with arboreal and botanical entities this season, folks?
The moss continues to speak. This is VERY cool.
Oooooooh ...
Aaaaaaaand SCENE.

Bungou Stray Dogs Original Abilities
I made the following abilities for Bungou Stray Dogs that are free to use with credit. The name of the abilities are mainly based off of the titles from the works of authors and poets.
Last Update: 25/08/24
╰┈➤
The Snake Song by R. K. Narayan: This ability allows the user to transform into a huge serpent. They gain all the characteristics and abilities of one, enhanced to a somewhat supernatural degree. The user can also grow and shrink as per their will in this form, from the size of a normal snake to the size of a two-and-a-half storey building.
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell: This ability allows the user to manipulate their shadow to do their bidding. The strength of the shadow depends on the intensity of light around it i.e. more the light, the stronger the shadow. If more than one shadow is formed by a light source, the user can control all of them at once. However, the attacks will be much weaker as the ability will be split between several shadows.
A Living God by Yakumo Koizumi (born Lafcadio Hearn): This ability allows the user to bring their echo to life. They can use it to relay messages and find hiding spots of specific targets by their will for up to thirty minutes at a time. However, this ability can work only in a closed rooms with hard walls.
War and Peace by Lev Tolstoy: This ability allows the user to induce either positive or negative feelings in its targets. They can induce a sense of violent rage which can suppress the affected person’s thoughts and cause them to blindly attack others as well as induce a sense of peace that replaces the rage with bliss and serenity. However, this ability can work only in a limited area and the user’s mind may divide to handle the opposing forces.
There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale: This ability allows the user to converse with the flora and fauna environment to the point of convincing them to act as personal messengers and spies. However, since the user has such a strong connection to nature, dangerous and unstable situations like violent conflicts can cause a lot of mental anguish.
Daffodils by William Wordsworth: This ability allows the user to induce a sense of blissful peace into anyone they touch after activation. While it is useful for calming people down, it can also be used to hypnotise people into a state of such penetrating ecstasy that not only does it render them completely ignorant to their surroundings but causes the victim to experience intense desperation and need to feel that kind of serenity for days after breaking out of it.
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol: This ability allows the user to transport anyone they touch into a pocket dimension called Wonderland upon activation. It is frequented by characters such as the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter etc. who take on absurd forms and try to keep the target inside Wonderland by the means of bizarre requests. However, the target can escape by ignoring the characters’ demands and finding the exit. This ability is quite similar to Lucy’s.
‘The Scottish Play’ by William Shakespeare: This ability allows the user to imbue anyone with misfortune if anyone except themselves whisper the name ‘Macbeth’. The user has no control over what the misfortune is or when it will happen as the ability only assures them that it will happen with certainty. They may also revoke the curse by uttering the words, ‘fair is foul, and foul is fair’.
Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl: This ability allows the user to manifest a fox-like phantom which can steal any object the user tells it to do so but on the condition that the stolen object is used to help someone.
Vasilisa the Beautiful by Alexander Afanasyev: This ability allows the user to call upon a magical doll named Vasilisa to aid them in various tasks. Vasilisa can perform simple actions such as scouting, delivering items or providing advice. She can also heal minor wounds or provide temporary boosts to skills, adding to her role as a helpful and protective companion.
