notes and links to translations for a couple songs beneath the cut:

there's some overlap in songs on purpose but i still tried to put the playlist in chronological order. it basically splits the story into thirds: before ep9, ep9 through prison, & post-prison, and switches pov between ai di and chen yi fairly often.

Anime Intro — Neon Lights are very much starter vibes for both characters: for growing up together, for fighting together in the gang.

In those days where he would hang out, share a drink with friends, talk about everything and nothing all at once. Too lost in the moment to really stick to one topic. Those days were long gone and the fact he was here, alone, only proved that.

He allowed his mind to fill. From light-hearted memories to the more gut wrenching. Though, he only let them float around. Not touching them to explore anything more. Simply keeping them as flashes to not send him down a bad rabbit hole.

So lost in thought, he didn't even see the stranger who decided to settle against the wall of the building. Not until they spoke out loud.

Blinking, he didn't realize he must've been in a one-sided conversation. No matter, it wasn't as if he'd pull away from it. He could use the company.

"Guess -- g-guess that's just life," He shrugged as he downed a good portion from his flask. Gazing out in the distance, not staring at one thing in particular. "Sh-Shit happens, you get stuck a-and there's no way out."
