Hand craefted Offering to Woden is now available on my website.
The Os rune, also known as "ᚩ" in the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, is often associated with the god Woden (Odin). In the context of runes and Old English literature, Os means "mouth" or "speech" and symbolizes communication, wisdom, and divine inspiration, all attributes closely linked to Woden.
Woden, the chief god in Anglo-Saxon and Norse mythology (where he is known as Odin), is associated with wisdom, magic, poetry, and the esoteric knowledge of the runes. The connection between the Os rune and Woden comes from the rune's symbolic meanings and the god's attributes.
In the Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem, the verse for the Os rune states:
```
Os byþ ordfruma ælcre spræce,
wisdomes wraþu and witena frofur
and eorla gehwam eadnys and tohiht.
```
This can be translated as:
```
Os is the source of all language,
a pillar of wisdom and a comfort to the wise,
and to every noble, joy and trust.
```
These lines highlight the rune's association with speech and wisdom, reinforcing its link to Woden, who is revered for his eloquence and deep knowledge.
Therefore, the Os rune serves as a fitting symbol for Woden, embodying the qualities of communication, wisdom, and divine inspiration that are central to his character. #osrune #os #woden #odin #anglosaxon #oldenglish #anglosaxonrunepoem #fyp #charmerofherbs #theherbwitchshoppe

Urd’s Snowflake Rune Cards Make100 Kickstarter project
It’s launch day!
Urd’s Snowflake Rune Cards are a deck designed for both divination and education, featuring the Elder Futhark, Younger Futhark, and Anglo-Saxon Futhorc runes. They’ll be paired with an interdisciplinary home-schooling syllabus and lesson plan designed to inoculate teens who are interested in early medieval European history and mythology against recruitment by white supremacist hate groups. The syllabus will be made freely available.
The rune cards are based on a galdrastafir-like design with the symmetry of a naturally formed snowflake, which allows us to include lessons in geometry, chemistry, and crystallography in the syllabus, in addition to the expected lessons in history, archaeology, Norse mythology, literature, linguistics, and art.
Here’s the Kickstarter campaign link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mannazwyrd/make-100-urds-snowflake-rune-cards?ref=9q25u1
UPDATE#1: Thanks so very much for the support so far! It's overwhelming. The early bird reward decks have sold out! Kickstarter made us one of their “Projects We Love”!

Stephen Pollington is an academic first and foremost. ‘Rudiments of Runelore’ is a superb resource despite its slender size. Also check out the book on the Younger Futhark by Ann Groa Sheffield, and Suzanne Rance’s book on the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc - both work to contextualise the rune poems in the history of when they were written and compare older and newer translations in ways that will help you get to the core of each rune’s meanings.
Unfortunately the esoteric mass-market rune books are mostly garbage. Paxson cites some garbage rune authors but has supposedly cherry-picked their commentary that’s got solid scholarship (I have yet to read the new edition).
Lara Veleda Vesta, while leaning a bit heavily on the divine feminine for my taste, is careful in framing her work as undoing harms done by colonial ancestors, and her rune book is an animist exploration of the runes as independent sentient beings. I haven’t seen anything problematic from her or about her to date.
Trying to find contemporary rune books as an anti racist heathen is stupidly hard. I’ve read Diana Paxson’s book and I’m planning to study the rune poems as well as some of the more academic texts like ones by Page, but does anyone have recommendations for contemporary rune authors that do their research and aren’t massive pieces of shit? What about Pollington? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

ARILD HAUGE’S RUNES AND VIKING PAGES.
As a special service to English speaking visitors, I have made this summary about Runes and Viking related stuff in English. Please note that there are a lot of more information on the Norwegian written part of "Arild Hauge’s Runes", where all the the runic inscriptions have an Norse and English interpretation. On this site you find the Scandinavian meaning of the word rune, in plurals runes and runic in specific shape, as a Font Character in the Norse Futhark and the Anglosaxon Futhorc, which is a kind of an alphabeth. The Norse word rune has several meanings, and can also mean Font Character, learning, poetry, mysteries, secret knowledge, confidential or whispered conversation, sorcery characters. It is also a Norwegian name for a type of Finnish folk verse found in Kallevalla, called "Runer".

Gee I just remembered I have quite a few things to ask you. Well, I hope it won't bother you if I leave them in the box until you have some time for them :V. So, I got interested in runes recently, especially futhorc, the anglosaxon alphabet, but I can't seem to find the meanings of the other runes after the like, 10 or 12 that pop up everywhere. Do you know if they are the elder futhark ones or someone I could ask about them? - seas-child
No worries at all!
I’m not entirely sure where you would inquire about that tbh, I have a book on the runes you’re talking about, but that book is kinda across the country right now at a friends place >_> so that doesn’t really help us…
It might be a case where they’re extra or made-up runes, or records on those runes and what they represent may have been lost with time.
Perhaps some of my more rune-savvy followers have some input?

I've heard some opinions about runes. Which "futhark/futhorc/etc" is better? I've heard some people say that only to use the elder futhark some say the younger some say the anglosaxon. Whats the difference and is there a better one or more used one?
Neither is better. It’s simply a matter of personal preference. I like the elder futhark myself, but other rune mages use the younger or the anglo saxon and get good results.
Just use the ones you are drawn to.

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/travel/news/who-was-eadruf-cross-shaped-pendant-covered-in-runes-reveals-mysterious-new-anglo-saxon-name/ar-AARO4dA
Nice example of Anglo-Saxon Futhorc in use in an 8th-9th century artefact! Pretty easy to read, too: Eh Ac Daeg (with long verticals), the Rad is a ligature with Daeg and has an open form, Ur Feoh. Plus some decorative crosses.
In the articles the interviewed experts suggest it may have belonged to Eardwulf of Lindisfarne, a 9th century CE bishop. That the hole was punched after the name was inscribed is interesting - was it a gift (those crosses might then have a double meaning as Gyfu) and the owner punched it after its receipt to make it easy to wear or carry or add to a set of prayer beads?
Scholars have determined the cross was made sometime between the years 700 and 900 AD, when the Berwick region in the Kingdom of Northumbria was an important center of Christian worship.
Cross-shaped pendants aren’t all that unusual, and others have been recovered that were made from gold. What makes this small cross so extraordinarily rare is that it is inscribed with runic writing , and it is the first medieval cross pendant ever found that has this feature.
And when the runic writing was decoded, it produced quite a surprise. The six-letter message apparently identified the owner of the cross, a man who seems to have gone by the name Eadruf.
This is a most unusual name, as it is the only name seen from medieval times that contains the word element “ruf.” Such an element has not previously been discovered in any language from the Germanic language family .

If you're thinking of making your own #runeset now is the time of year to do it as it's the end of #harvest season! . Always create runes with a fruit or #seedbearing wood like #oak #apple or #hawthorn . Go for a walk among these #trees . Never cut the living #branch Always allow it to fall to the #ground in a strong #wind and allow it to find you. You'll know when you see it. . Wave the branch over #sage #smoke before cutting into runes to #purify it. Now your runes have come into contact with all the #elements and you. . Another great resource from Zan.
If I may?
Do you have any not racist, historical resources about runes? I want to learn about them but having a hard time figuring out what is historical and what is more modern conjecture (and also don't want anything formulated by n@zis)

UPDATE#2
UPDATE#3 we’re now at 103% funded, 27 backers and 63 followers on Kickstarter, and we’re so grateful and excited to make a rune deck with more than just the Elder Futhark and a free learning resource to keep teens from being groomed by extremists! This means we’re now working on our first stretch goal, to double our print run to 125 decks (100 for backers, 25 reserved for testing the syllabus). To celebrate, we’re upgrading all the decks to a linen cardstock for easier shuffling, and we’re adding a new reward tier. Watch for an update later today on Kickstarter with more details about our syllabus!

UPDATE #5: Halfway there! Celebrating with a card reveal and new rewards (5 Feb 2021)
Today is Day 16 (of 30) of our Kickstarter campaign to create an expanded, educational rune deck and a kickass teaching resource that inoculates students against recruitment by racists and fascists. So far, we have raised CA$3321, and we are 174% funded, with 42 backers and 108 followers! That makes us 79% of the way to funding our first stretch goal and printing 125 rune decks instead of 60. We’re humbled by your support and trust -- thank you all so much. Today I’m writing with the updated card design, budget updates, and new rewards! I’ve also been syllabus-writing and double-checking divination meanings against the historical source materials to remove the 20th-century tarot-and-I-Ching influences. Here’s the new tarot-sized card design:
Update: the redesigned tarot-size card front, with extra white space for the bleed area.
Work on the divination meanings also allowed me to right-size the deck by merging the cards for related runes with duplicate meanings (making it a better divination deck), removing a couple of bind-runes that cannot be reclaimed from their associations with the Third Reich (yuck, they’ll get discussed in the syllabus but not in the card deck), then adding a few new bind-runes. The deck now has 50 cards (instead of 57), which cover all the Elder Futhark, Younger Futhark, and Anglo-Saxon Futhorc runes and 14 bind-runes from medieval and early-modern grimoires. This allowed us, within our existing budget, to upgrade to linen cardstock ahead of our prior schedule and add two new lower-cost backer rewards:
- a combo pack of a high-quality, die-cut vinyl sticker featuring Urd's Snowflake and a sturdy cardstock bookmark featuring and explaining Urd’s Snowflake (photos coming soon), and
- gold resin Elder Futhark dice made-to-order by our friends at Ravishing Raven Handmade.
A photo from the silicone mold manufacturer of the dice -- Ravishing Raven Handmade will make our backers' dice with "magical gold" iridescent pigment powder, and use dragonsblood ink and artificial gold leaf to highlight the runes. They're waiting on delivery of the molds before they can send us their own sample photo.
