Hey, this is to check that fellow trans fans of Watership Down are aware that most of the music for the 1978 cartoon film of the book was written by the awesome trans woman composer (and conductor and arranger and clarinettist and saxophonist) Angela Morley (1924-2009). :D
Some other cool things she did:-
under her previous name she wrote the theme tune and some of the incidental music for Hancock's Half Hour
and some of the music for The Goon Show, ditto
also ditto, she worked on some of Shirley Bassey's music including "As I Love You"
one of her first projects after transitioning was as an orchestrator for Jesus Christ Superstar
she worked on numerous US television soundtracks including Dynasty, Dallas, and Wonder Woman
she did a lot of (mostly uncredited) collaborations with John Williams, assisting him with film scores including Star Wars, E.T., and Home Alone
she won three Emmys for music arrangement/direction and was nominated eight times for composing; she was also the first trans person to be nominated for an Oscar (which she was twice)
That's not even all of it! Absolutely awesome woman. <3 Here's some more on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angela_Morley
Anyway. She was superb. <3

Do you know what hurts the most? Not scraping your knee. Not accidentally biting the inside of your cheek, and not even tearing off a hangnail- no! There is no greater pain than having hyperfixation/special interest....and it is super niche.
Super niche gang, where you at? I need to info dump about this AWESOME story about British bunnies beating each other up! (I'm aware there is so much more to it than that - just a brief summary)
Also, I got the Watership Down vinyl from Christmas this year, alongside a copy of Tales from Watership Down

THIS WEEK IS THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF ANGELA MORLEY'S BIRTH (March 10th)
and something cool I only learnt today is that she was one of three uncredited orchestrators of the Karate Kid soundtrack -- she's there on the IMDB, but not mentioned on the Karate Kid wikipedia, although one of the other two is
in fact, a fair amount of her work is uncredited or simply not given as much focus, including on both Home Alone movies, Schindler's List, Star Wars (A New Hope), Superman, and E.T. (also have been reading that she arranged for Cinema Paradiso, but it's not on her or the movie's IMDB -- doesn't mean it's untrue, but strange that her name pops up everywhere except there for that), and on TV for Wonder Woman, Cagney and Lacey, Dynasty, Dallas, and one episode of Doctor Who amongst many others -- it's like a hidden history in plain site, because scroll down her IMDB and it's all there, but nobody ever mentions her contributions to these movies and shows and so nobody knows
in Leeds there was a local celebration of her on March 16th to coincide with 50 years since the first TS/TV conference in the UK, with her family coming in from out of town and on zoom from America to listen to performances of her music, including a piece that had never been played before
the influence of trans people in popular culture continues to take me by surprise, not because I don't know that we're there, but because it's always such a treasure to discover more
it was especially touching how much of her family was there for this and supported the celebration of her, even offering the piano piece that was being played for the first time for the event
a lot of Angela Morley's most well-known orchestrations and compositions weren't created until she was 40+ years old (with Watership Down being in 1978). we've got plenty of space and time to figure ourselves out and find our space in the world
Happy 100 Years to Angela Morley, iconic trans woman who worked on film and TV and in original composition and whose scores are wonderfully whimsical

this is a poll for a movie that doesn't exist.
It is vintage times. The powers that be have decided to again remake the classic vampire novel Dracula for the screen. in an amazing show of inter-studio solidarity, Hollywood’s most elite hotties are up for the starring roles. the producers know whoever they cast will greatly impact the genre, quality, and tone of the finished film, so they are turning to their wisest voices for guidance.
you are the new casting director for this star-studded epic. choose your players wisely.

Previously cast:
Jonathan Harker—Jimmy Stewart
The Old Woman—Martita Hunt
Count Dracula—Gloria Holden
Mina Murray—Setsuko Hara
Lucy Westenra—Judy Garland (rip)
The Three Voluptuous Women—Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe, and Lauren Bacall
The Agonized Mother—Mary Philbin (rip)
Dr. Jack Seward—Vincent Price
Quincey P. Morris—Toshiro Mifune
Arthur Holmwood—Sidney Poitier
R.M. Renfield—Conrad Veidt
The Captain of the Demeter—Omar Sharif (rip)
The First Mate of the Demeter—Leonard Nimoy (rip)
Mr. Swales—Ed Wynn (rip)
The Correspondent for The Daily Graph—Ethel Waters
Dracula in dog form—Frank Oz with a puppet
Sister Agatha—Angela Lansbury
Mrs. Westenra—Gladys Cooper (rip)
Dracula's solicitors—Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee
Dr. Van Helsing—Orson Welles
Mr. Hawkins—Donald Meek
Thomas Bilder, the zookeeper—Lon Chaney Jr.
Mrs. Bilder, the zookeeper's wife—Elsa Lanchester
The Reporter from the Pall Mall Gazette—Hattie McDaniel
There is little to say to describe Mr. Marquand, who is only here briefly to describe how the Westenra will leaves everything to Arthur Holmwood. He is described by Dr. Seward as "very genial and very appreciative," and goes a little too much into legal detail considering the reason he turns up in the story. (Lucy and Mrs. Westenra are now dead.)

Visions of Mana class system
A lot of information about Vision of Mana's class system has been released on the Japanese website (see source).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Val's classes: [No element:] Soul Guard (moribito). [Wind:] Rune Knight. [Moon:] Aegis. [Water:] Duelist. [Fire:] Liege (Lord). [Wood:] Edelfrei (Swordmaster).
Val's classes are very "knight" archetype, mostly based on Duran's classes (Duelist, Liege, and Edelfrei) with a bit of Riesz (Rune Knight) and some that are new although still in line with the knight theme (Aegis).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Careena's classes: [No element:] Oracle (kannagi). [Wind:] Dancer (maihime). [Moon:] Moon-reader(?) (tsukiyomi). [Water:] Dragon Master. [Fire:] Divine Fist (Godhand). [Wood:] Exorcist(?) (onmyouji).
Most of Careena's classes are new ones based around a kind of priestess or shaman sort of vibe (Oracle, Dancer, Tsukiyomi - not sure what the localized name for this will be but I wonder if it will be something like Fortune Teller - and Onmyouji). But some of her classes reference Riesz (Dragon Master) and Kevin (Divine Fist - this outfit is BOMB by the way).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Morley's classes: [No element:] Ranger. [Wind:] Nomad (Wanderer). [Moon:] Nightblade. [Water:] Hermit. [Fire:] Rogue. [Wood:] Samurai.
Morley's classes are entirely based on Hawkeye's classes (Ranger, Nomad, Nightblade, Rogue), with some new additions along that same thief/rogue/vagrant vein (Hermit, Samurai - I wonder if this one will be localized as Ronin or something to fit the theme).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Palamena's classes: [No element:] Queen. [Wind:] Rune Seer (Rune Master). [Moon:] Empress. [Water:] Grand Diviner. [Fire:] Masquer (Masquerade). [Wood:] Beastleader (Beast Tamer).
Palamena seems to have a mix of royalty-themed classes (Queen, Empress), Angela's classes (Rune Seer, Grand Diviner), and some new additions that seem quite quirky (Masquer, Beastleader). I'm a fan of the pirate-themed Masquer costume and the blue Grand Diviner costume (makes me think of Angela's pixel art).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Julei's classes: [No element:] Custodian (Watcher). [Wind:] Hamelin. [Moon:] Warlock. [Water:] Scholar. [Fire:] Gatekeeper. [Wood:] Sage.
Julei is the squishiest mage ever the party healer, so his classes are very much based on Charlotte's (Warlock, Sage; Scholar is not a Charlotte class but is kinda in line with that theme). He also seems to have a sentry theme as well (Custodian, Gatekeeper), and I'm not sure what is going on with the Hamelin class; maybe it will have some musical/musical instrument elements to it given that horn on his hip?
Overall, it looks like we have four of Trials of Mana's six classes that are aligned with one character each (Duran (->Val), Hawkeye (->Morley), Angela (->Palamena), and Charlotte (->Julei)), with the last two (Riesz and Kevin) being distributed wherever they fit.
Anyway, I am so excited. I love me a good class system, especially when it comes with different costumes, especially when the costume designs are as fun and elaborate as these ones are. (This is like Bravely Default all over again, haha.)

First openly trans person nominated for an Oscar!
Just a reminder that John Williams wrote the music for Star Wars, but the orchestration of that music (figuring out what instrument will actually play each part) for the first two films was done by Angela Morley, who had openly transitioned only a few years before, in her late 40s.

I got bored and did this little Sleight of Hand animatic/storyboard...whatever you'd call it, with My Ocs Birdy and Jack. I love Angela Morley's instrumentals so much, and "Final struggle and Triumph" is a true masterpiece.

i tried to pick ones i thought tumblr might know (except hattori, he's just here for me <3). i'm going to have a little soapbox now...
there's racism and sexism and barriers in every industry, but film composition seems particularly bad. 94% of box office films in 2019 were scored by men. any "best film composers of all time" list is overwhelmingly white and male. please show some of these composers your love!
also, i want to draw everyone's attention to angela morley. morley was a composer who worked on many films, including watership down, the little prince, star wars, and home alone. she was a transgender woman who publicly came out in 1972. you can find out more about her here.
