Some musicians surprise us by doing what they should not have done. For instance, Talk Talk shocked us this way – yes, you heard the story before in here, but I like that tale. They had an opportunity to do anything they wanted, which they transformed into both Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock. One continues to be baffled by how they changed their previous styles, even though one can notice the traces of that in the previous records. Sure, they were not as pronounced as they could've been, but they were there. Moreover, their post-rock continues to be stronger than that of a lot of players in this genre. The thing is I believe Talk Talk used the emotional palette the style provides more than many who followed them.

ABOVE: Captain Andrew Haldane [left] instructs Lieutenant Thomas 'Stumpy' Stanley in the use of the Garand M1 semi-automatic rifle | BELOW: Extracts from letters printed in Bill Sloan, Brotherhood of Heroes: The Marines at Peleliu (2005)
V-mail to Bowdoin College President Kenneth Sills, Brisbane, 6 January 1943: ‘At present, I am taking a back seat & it seems good to get a night's sleep now & then. Gosh I wish I could tell you more but I'm afraid I might make some slight infraction of the regulations which is very serious.'
Letter to his sister Janet, Melbourne, 31 January 1943: ‘The women here are very fast. They are big gals & they can handle themselves very well. These girls remind me a great deal of the American girls. The other night I met a shop welder and she had bigger arms than mine. Some of the boys come back with the weirdest takes. One of my men took out a wrestler & she wasn't bad at all. What a life.’
Letter to Sills, New Guinea, 29 November 1943: 'I've often thought of what I could do after this war game is over and I've come to the conclusion that I would much rather be a civilian. It won't be long now for press reports as you know are very encouraging.'
Letter to former Bowdoin College football coach Adam Walsh, following the Cape Gloucester campaign: 'I can sincerely say your instruction and guiding ways have helped me greatly in this task I have of leading men.'
Letter to Sills, Pavuvu, 25 July 1944: 'This next one [the Peleliu campaign] is going to be a peach. Woe is me!'
Letter to his high school sweetheart Phyllis Stowell, aboard LST-661, 5 September 1944: ‘We are at sea again en-route to another enemy stronghold [Peleliu]. This letter will not go out until after we hit our objective but at least you know that I gave you thought on the way up ... Don't ever worry about me Phyllis for I'll be O.K. Just remember that I can't go wrong because after this blitz I'm coming back so wish me luck. I'll need it.’

After a young mother awakens from a coma to find herself grievously injured and missing much of her memory, she desperately tries to piece together what happened, only to discover her husband is suspected of the crime. She can't accept that her husband is capable of murder, but can she trust her memories or perception of reality? Will she be able to figure out what happened before the cycle of violence repeats itself?

Ahead of the NCIS franchise’s actual 1,000th episode (airing next Monday at 9/8c), CBS this Monday night served up the Entertainment Tonight special NCISverse: The First 1,000.
Hosted by ET‘s Kevin Frazier, The First 1,000 featured some new/new-ish interviews with past and present franchise cast members, a few archival Q&As and clips galore from NCIS and its assorted offshoots.
Closing out the retrospective was acknowledgment of cast members who are no longer with us (including NCIS: Los Angeles‘ Miguel Ferrer and NCIS‘ David McCallum), plus some hype for the franchise’s two upcoming offshoots: NCIS: Origins (aka the Young Gibbs prequel series starring Austin Stowell) and the yet-to-be-titled, Europe-set Tony/Ziva series starring Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo.
Tumblr media
For hardcore NCIS megafans, brand-new reveals were probably hard to come by. But for the slightly more casual fan such as myself, there were fun facts to be found. Such as….
1. Spun off of a JAG two-parter, NCIS was at first envisioned as following the Law & Order format — half investigation, half courtroom — but viewer affinity for the agents’ clue-gathering and Mark Harmon’s character led to a change in the formula.
2. We’ve heard most of these before, but always fun to ponder: Other actors whose names were bandied about for the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs included Harrison Ford, Kevin Bacon, Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy, Alec Baldwin and Patrick Swayze, while a post-Friends Jennifer Aniston was eyed to play the replacement for Tony’s original partner, Viv Blackadder (Robyn Lively),
3. Michael Weatherly recalled that when filming his first scenes as DiNozzo, NCIS co-creator Donald P. Bellisario came up to him on-set and grumbled, “What are you doing, modeling?” Weatherly then resolved to entertain at the very least himself with a more animated performance.
4. In the Season 2 episode “Twilight,” in which Caitlin Todd (played by Sasha Alexander) is shot dead by a sniper, Michael Weatherly can be seen wincing a half-second too soon, before the “blood” squib actually explodes. (See photo above.)
5. Actual NCIS agents had never worn stitched logo caps — until TV’s NCIS came along and sparked interest, and the real-life LEOs requested official ones.
6. Diona Reasonover, who plays Kasie, had no idea that Cote de Pablo was secretly returning as Ziva in the Season 16 finale — until she watched the episode that night!
7. Though not a series regular as McGee until Season 2, Sean Murray holds the record for appearing in the most NCIS episodes: 450 (out of 464). Fun fact within a fact: Murray was originally hired as a one-off guest star, but a subsequent episode came in three minutes short and it was decided to bring the McGee character back to fill time.
8. It would take almost 30 days to watch all 1,000 NCIS franchise episodes. Without bathroom breaks!
9. For its headquarters scenes, NCIS: Sydney shoots inside an actual, old restaurant space at the Walsh Bay Wharves along Sydney Harbour.

Bank of England Governor: AI won't lead to mass job losses

Bank of England Governor: AI won't lead to mass job losses
.pp-multiple-authors-boxes-wrapper display:none; img width:100%;
Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, has rebutted fears that AI will lead to widespread unemployment.
“I’m an economic historian, before I became a central banker. Economies adapt, jobs adapt, and we learn to work with it. And I think, you get a better result by people with machines than with machines on their own,” Bailey told the BBC.
Bailey’s comments come as the latest economic assessment shows that UK businesses investing in AI are expected to see gains in efficiency and output. Utilising AI is anticipated to provide productivity benefits across multiple sectors.
However, Baroness Stowell of the House of Lords has cautioned that the UK risks “missing out on the AI goldrush” if it does not act quickly.
A report from the Lords’ Communications and Digital Committee honed in on large language models and tools like ChatGPT. The report called for updated copyright laws and urged the government to provide clarity on AI regulation—warning too much could hinder AI development in the country.
Both Bailey and the Lords committee seem to agree that the focus should be on harnessing the upsides of AI while managing legitimate risks.
The financial services industry also stands to gain from responsible AI adoption.
“Generative AI brings potentially exciting benefits for financial institutions. When it comes to fighting financial crime, for example, AI can improve the accuracy and speed of detection by analysing large data sets,” said Dr Henry Balani, Head of Industry & Regulatory Affairs at Encompass Corporation.
Balani emphasised however that key roles like Know Your Customer (KYC) analysts are irreplaceable for now. “It will instead accelerate existing processes and augment the work of analysts, empowering them to detect financial crime risk more quickly and comprehensively,” he added.
“The maximum value of generative AI can only be realised if banks and financial institutions have already put in place robust digital and automated processes to optimise the quality of data collated and deliver deeper customer insights. By prioritising this now, banks will be well equipped to take advantage of this new technology as it continues to evolve and mature.”
Last month, research from EXL found that around 89 percent of insurance and banking firms in the UK have introduced AI solutions over the past year. However, issues with data optimisation are often hindering their benefits.

Boss! Boss! De lame, it’s de lame! Fantasy Island (2020) #Review A frothy, fantasy series from the late seventies/ early eighties may seem like an odd choice for a 2020 horror revival but when has that ever stopped Blumhouse, the McDonalds Of Horror™, from hoovering up an IP and then figuring it out afterwards.

Many musicians are not willing to surprise us. True, very few are ready to reinvent themselves completely, because this decision carries a lot of implications and the responsibility to accept that? Many found that tough to handle. Moreover, when could they do something like this? Well, Talk Talk, for instance, did that after their greatest success and, well, the rest is history. Yes, Spirit Of Eden still shocks us in comparison to what happened before, though I believe the disc would get a better approval in the 90's. However – would the 90's happen without Spirit Of Eden? Yes, this is some weird tautology, but pay attention – xou can trace so many developments we take for granted on this LP, yet the disc stays as more enigmatic than those that were influenced by that.

Film Review: An All-time Classic in Chazelle’s Whiplash — 10/10 rating
By Alfonso Martirez | (contains spoilers)
An irrefutable masterpiece — framing the chase of greatness with the details that create an intrigue towards the travails that triumph necessitates. This film mashes the brutality of competitiveness in ones field and the scrupulosity that takes place in the process of what it takes to stand out, succeed, and perform to virtual perfection.
Memorable across the board, viewers will be highly absorbed — beautiful cinematography that we are immersed into seeing the tension-filled realism of competitive pursuit of an artistic ambition, a screenplay that's etched itself in cinema rapport and show-stopping acting performances by Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons, has exhibited how the intensity and vigor of ones obsession of perfection is taken to great lengths narratively speaking.
One note that may be under appreciated, is the supporting roles that have also done well in exceedingly exemplary scenes that work to endear and create the atmosphere of ambition and competition that is fine-tooth combed. The role of Melissa Benoist perfectly executes a beguiling love interest that dishearteningly loses to a path towards greatness that doesn’t include her. Austin Stowell who charms with a friendly, less serious approach to his journey for drumming excellence — perfectly manufacturing the essence of seemingly irrational bias that may be relatable in the workplace, school or social settings. And Nate Lang who provides another source of what it’s like under the extreme pressure of playing under Fletcher. These supporting roles and scenes are what helps create the world of dimly lit halls of a music conservatory set in New York — a world that thematically juxtaposes what Andrew tries to fight his way out of, as seen in the discourse at the dinner scene with his counterparts who are keen on football and model UN accomplishments and dismissive of drumming interests rather than supportive and scrutable of his feats. A sweet stroke of irony as we do see a more a cutthroat and voracious energy in the halls where Fletcher lurks, rather than in the energy of a high school football standout and his prideful father.
Important philosophical themes are piquantly sparked — asking audiences 'What moral boundaries can be crossed in order to achieve success?' and 'Is mental health and emotional relationships a necessary trade-off for the great depths and process of chasing greatness?'. As well as other popular plot-based questions and discussions that revolve around underlying intentions of Fletcher and whether or not they are justified. These themes are further interpolated when you explore other characters' motives and logos or pathos — what at its surface seems an uncomplicated concept that further delves into and explores other intriguingly complex ideas and a web of conversation.
These moral questions work in parallel with the storyline. As we move forward, we also wonder if Fletcher takes his traits and actions further than what his title holds — asking if his intentions have also surpassed his responsibilities as a conductor, mentor and teacher. In one of many discussions that can be interpolated, it is very interesting to reason whether or not it is Fletcher’s role to sift out who can be guided towards greatness or his responsibility to do what it takes in order to make sure his muse reaches his potential that causes a lopsided trade-off with morals, and whether there is more gain than harm to the muse or society. Seeing as the trade-off be too dire when death is the consequence, it is also interesting to further discuss how Fletcher’s intentions may be justified since Neiman has the same of agenda of achieving greatness as a musical artist.

Alex dating a guy who is 20 years older than her👀. she really has a thing for older guys sometimes, ari melber and now andrew. Did you notice alex has become more open about her relationships after levon died. She almost showed austin stowel on her insta and wrote a big post about him then deleted it after they broke up. Now she is showing the new guy as well and writing post about him. Her taste is really all over the place, except one thing she really like long oval faced guys.
Yeah oval skinny and taller right? That’s so sad that she lost her dog

Healers Event Tomorrow!
Tumblr media
Tomorrow, DragonPri's Gifts will be hosting a Healers Event. This event is free. Each Healer will have some form of healing that they are doing free of charge. They will offer more healing and other things for donations. The Healers who have volunteered to be at this event are; Nathan Foster who is a holistic healer, he is well versed in herbs and their healing properties; Micheal Ballew who is a Reiki Master who is working to get his credential to train others, he may have them by now and is very good at what he does; Lisa Hazard is into healing with Tarot, she is who I go to, and is amazing. DragonPri's Gifts was shocked and honored to find out one of our original Full Moon Gathering peeps is a level 2 Reiki Healer. We are so grateful to welcome Andrew Stowell as one of our Healers. He will sadly not be able to make the event, but will be around for the after event festivities. I am so excited to see what all of these healers can do, and we can't wait to see what other healers we can attract for similar events to this one. This event is sure to have something for everyone. Come out and have some fun. If you have children, then bring them along too. There will be snacks available for those who get parched during this event. We are aware that many will not be ready to leave the event at 4 pm. That is alright. DragonPri's Gifts will be having a bon fire after the event for those who wish to socialize. Hope to see you all there. As always, Blessed Be! Read the full article
