Chapter 1
"How do you know Storm Shadow?" Duke asked the young woman standing beside Snake Eyes. She appeared delicate, yet her combat skills were unbelievably formidable. She had fought Storm Shadow, the Cobra ninja, on equal footing. But strangely enough, Storm Shadow seemed more focused on the black-clad ninja than on her.
"Storm Shadow? I know him by a different name, Duke." Mochizuki Kira said in a calm voice. "I knew him before he joined Cobra. I knew him as a friend… and as my fiancé."
"W—what?! Fiancé?!" Ripcord was stunned. The idea that the white-clad ninja had such a sweet and beautiful fiancée was unbelievable. "Wait… why 'fiancé'? And do you really know him?"
"I know him as Tomisaburo Arashikage… or simply, Tommy."

"Kira, when we enter the Arashikage estate, you must be respectful toward them," Mochizuki Toshiro told the little girl in a bright blue kimono as they sat in a limousine. "You are to marry one of Sen-sama's grandsons." The brown-haired man looked out the window before continuing.
"Sen-sama suggested that you stay with them until you reach marriageable age. This will allow you to learn their customs and traditions, and get to know both grandsons. If you ever feel unhappy or if anyone mistreats you, please inform me or your caretaker, Makiko, immediately."
From what Kira knew, the head of the Arashikage clan had two grandsons. Her own children had all passed away in tragic circumstances, leaving only those two as her heirs. Unsurprisingly, Sen sought a bride from another remaining ninja lineage, and the Mochizuki clan was one of the selected families.
The Arashikage estate was more like a castle than a house, at least in her eyes. It was a grand estate with what seemed like a small village within its boundaries. The Mochizuki family's car pulled up at the entrance, and a chauffeur rushed to open the door for the father and daughter.
A middle-aged man greeted them with a bow before leading them to the main hall, where they would meet Sen and one of her grandsons. The two bowed respectfully. Sen looked at Kira with a warm smile. "Kira has grown quite a bit, hasn't she, Kenta?"
Arashikage Kenta, one of Sen’s grandsons, glanced at Kira before sneering. "This girl? She's ugly," he scoffed. "An ugly duckling like her is lucky to have anyone marry her. She looks like a clueless fool."
Kira lowered her head, her small hands gripping her kimono tightly as she endured the cruel words.
"Kenta..." Sen's displeasure was evident in her expression. "You shouldn't speak like that—"
A loud thud interrupted them as if someone had just slammed into the sliding door. The four turned their attention to the entrance just as the shoji door slid open.
A boy with a tall, lean figure stood there, dressed in a dark-colored jinbei, exuding far more elegance than Kenta. Before Sen could scold him, the boy spoke loudly:
"I will marry her!!!"
The boy declared, his voice unwavering. "I will marry Mochizuki Kira when she comes of age. I don't care how she looks when she grows up—I will marry her."
Sen shook her head, though a faint smile formed on her lips. She already knew which grandson would end up as Kira’s husband.
"Fine. You can have her, Tomisaburo," Kenta grumbled. "I don't care."
"She is not an object, Kenta. She is a young lady. Show her some respect."
Kira looked up at the boy standing in front of her. He appeared to be older than her but younger than Kenta. She remembered his name clearly. Her heterochromatic eyes focused on him as he bowed before speaking.
"Arashikage Tomisaburo. But you can call me Tommy."
Kira returned the bow and said softly, "Mochizuki Kira. It's a pleasure to meet you, Tomisaburo—"
"I told you, just call me Tommy." Tommy insisted. "Grandmother, may I take her for a walk?"
"After your training—"
"I already finished training with Hard Master." He replied before grabbing Kira’s hand and pulling her out of the reception hall. Sen could only shake her head in amusement as she turned to Toshiro.
"It seems your daughter already has a husband waiting for her."
Tomisaburo led Kira toward the Arashikage estate’s garden. Servants and caretakers bowed to them as they passed. Kira, still holding his hand, finally spoke up.
"Tommy-san, did you mean what you said?"
"I told you, just call me Tommy. And yes, I meant every word, Kira-chan," he said. "Don't let Kenta’s words get to you. He says awful things to everyone, even to me, his own cousin."
Kira nodded. Then, she felt something tucked into her hair. She reached up and realized he had placed a small sakura flower above her ear.
Tommy grinned. "You're beautiful, Kira-chan. And when you grow up, you'll be even more beautiful."
Her cheeks flushed lightly. Tommy held her hand again. "Come on, let me show you around."
Thus, that was the first meeting between Mochizuki Kira and Arashikage Tomisaburo. No one knew what the future would hold for them, but fate would decide.
TBC.

I've changed my mind on the live action movie I absolutely want a Mel Brooks-style Zelda movie starring Daniel Radcliffe as Link
The running gag is everyone decides he's a teenager despite him being visibly in his 30s. Kumail Nanjiani is an exhausted Ganondorf. Kristen Schaal is Zelda. Melissa McCarthy in increasingly obvious party city wigs is every Great Fairy. Michelle Yeoh is Impa. Alan Tudyk is there.
Jim Rash is the Happy Mask Salesman
Dwayne Johnson is the goron leader but it's not cg it's just him in very good cosplay (he's the rock, you see)
John Cena is dark link and Daniel Radcliffe Link thinks that's very unfair
Idris Elba is there and people assume he's Ganondorf but he's just selling his wares and is like 'wtf u think I look like ganonodorf for, just cause my eyes are yellow and my skin's dark? i'm from lurelin me mum's a zora ya prick'
everybody talks in their normal voice, no character voices, no additional accents
alan tudyk is just every background character that would be a recycled model. daniel exhausts his dialogue options and alan just repeats himself like four times. daniel walks away and someone else asks alan a question and he repeats himself again and is like 'wait you're someone else, hang on' and starts his dialogue tree over in the background
Andrew Koji plays sheik and Kristen Schaal claims he was her the whole time and Daniel's like, 'no it definitely wasn't' and she's like 'yeah it was, you just didn't recognize me because i put my hair up. i'm very clever.'
The Great Deku Tree is a puppet voiced by Sir Ian McKellan. Patrick Stewart plays Kepora Gebora. While Ian is trying to impart the legend, Patrick keeps interrupting him with corrections until the Deku tree up and dies in protest. Patrick takes this as a win. Daniel is horrified.
Will Ferrel plays the King of Hyrule. I have no guidance for this one it just feels right.
Kepora Gebora turns into Rauru and Rauru is played by Christopher Walken
Kumaildorf is just trying to get a teensy bit of world domination, as a treat, is that so much to ask

I wasn’t sure what to watch, so! What the heck! Let’s do a ridiculous, over-the-top action movie! Why not!
Set in a dystopian future city, Boy Kills World has our deaf and mute protagonist, Boy, raised and trained by the Shaman to kill Hilda Van Der Koy and her family, who murdered Boy’s family while ruling the city with an iron fist. So, upon completing his training, Boy, uh… he goes and does that? Along the way, he picks up allies, including the hallucination of his little sister, Mina.
The protagonist, Boy, doesn’t talk or hear. Which is an interesting conceit! His inner monologue is voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, who you may know as the voice of Sterling Archer or Bob Belcher. He doesn’t know what his voice would actually sound like, so he takes the one from an arcade game he played as a child. It’s funny, which it’s meant to be, though during the final conflict sequence, given that he doesn’t say anything there, it makes me wonder if maybe it feels out of place? That fight is more serious, but if the voiceover has been there the entire time, its absence there is notable.
I am also not sure if the lip-reading works for every scene, because there are bits where he clearly knows what other people are saying, when they turn away from him for bits of the conversation. I don’t mind too much, as it’s still entertaining, and it isn’t too breaking that he fills in gaps. The movie also does a hilarious thing where there’s one character he can’t lip-read, and all of his dialogue comes out as complete nonsense. That’s a nice touch.
One thing that was strange about the movie is the depiction of the men in the regime? It seems as if, until the final act, that the men in the Van Der Koy dynasty are all too happy to defect, being tired of the criminal nonsense that they’re involved in, but continue under pressure from the women. The women, on the other hand, are all for the dystopia, and are irredeemable. The last third doesn’t make this interpretation so cut-and-dry, though it’s so maybe I’m reading too much into it. Still, it is odd.
Even then, the amount of sympathy we get for characters turning on the regime, when it has apparently been oppressing innocents for years, is strange. There’s one example which we can’t discuss without spoiling the film, though it’s kind of a predictable twist.
Actually, yeah, let’s talk about that–there are a couple of twists in the final act of the film, which I don’t think are very out there. I pegged them from the first few minutes of the characters being on-screen. That doesn’t mean they’re bad, because seeing something coming doesn’t make a story bad. It just means that you shouldn’t expect to be surprised.
Which, is fine, because let’s be real here, you’re not watching a movie titled Boy Kills World with voiceover by H. Jon Benjamin because you’re waiting for a complex, meaningful Plot or deep worldbuilding. You want an exaggerated movie with awesome action scenes. And Boy Kills World delivers–there are great scenes of carnage and Boy beating the absolute crap of fascist stooges in all kinds of ridiculous sequences.
Also, Andrew Koji is in this movie? I’ve been seeing him a lot lately–he’s the star in Warrior, and also appears in Black Doves on Netflix.
It’s a fairly shallow world that the movie takes place in, and I don’t think the Plot is anything other than ‘simple’, but as an action movie? Boy Kills World works. I don’t think it’s going to be one of the greats, but it’s fun, and it’s pretty much exactly what I wanted from the movie after I saw the trailer.
Now I want to find some macarons…

Thrilled to hear that Warrior, one of my favorite shows in recent years, has been picked up by Netflix after having been cancelled by Max in December.
Based on Bruce Lee’s original treatment for a TV show that may or may not have eventually become Kung Fu (depends on who you ask), Warrior is set in San Francisco’s Chinatown during the violent Tong Wars and the Anti-Asian movement of the late 1870s. Following newly arrived immigrant Ah Sahm (played by the excellent Andrew Koji), searching for his lost older sister, Warrior quickly becomes entrenched in the gang warfare, political machinations, ethnic violence, and bigotry of 19th century San Francisco.
With a fantastic supporting cast—notably Olivia Cheng as brothel madam Ah Toy; Jason Tobin as Young Jun, son of the Hop Wei Tong leader; Dianne Doan as the Lady Macbeth-ian Mai Ling; and Hoon Lee as conflicted black market trader Wang Chao—Warrior really should be talked about by more people.
For example, while the show is mostly performed in English, the show’s creators have opted to have the actors shift their accents to denote what language they’re speaking. It’s an ingenious solution to the to-subtitle-or-not-to-subtitle problem and shows the care and subtlety with which they are presenting the story while also leaning into and showcasing the actors’ skill.
With three seasons moving to Netflix beginning in February, with a possibility of more if it performs well, I highly encourage everyone to check it out. Though incredibly violent, with its thrilling martial arts sequences, complex characters and settings—some loosely based on actual people and historical events—and presenting a little explored era and culture, Warrior is truly worthy of another shot.
And not for nothing, but it also has a pretty kick ass theme song.

Teevee shows:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BLACK DOVES (2024): Keira Knightley attempts unsuccessfully to renew her action star credentials with this violent, very uneven Netflix miniseries from Joe Barton (creator of THE LAZARUS PROJECT). Knightley stars as 40-ish deep-cover spy Helen Webb, whose two little children and dull husband Wallace (Andrew Buchan), an up-and-coming Tory MP, have no idea of her real past, her real occupation (spying on Wallace for a shadowy espionage organization), or the fact that she's been having an affair with a man called Jason (Andrew Koji of WARRIOR, wasted), who's just been murdered. Ben Whishaw (looking like he's been scraped out of a lint trap) costars as Helen's friend Sam, a sardonic gay hitman who is supposed to be watching her back while coping with problems of his own. Set at Christmastime, BLACK DOVES has a weird streak of holiday sentimentality that sits uneasily with Barton's dry black humor (which is sometimes fun) and mean-spirited ghoulishness (which is not). Worse, Barton leaves Knightley flailing in a badly underwritten part that's completely overshadowed by both Sam and the supporting cast — there's never any reason to care about either of Helen's lives, and the script seems reluctant to take her motivations (protect her children, avenge her dead boyfriend) at all seriously. Unlike THE LAZARUS PROJECT, the more interesting character threads also feel divorced from the murky plot, which is convoluted and far-fetched, but short on imagination and never very interesting. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Several, with snotty assassins Williams (Ella Lily Hyland) and Eleanor (Gabrielle Creevy) the show's principal bright spots. VERDICT: Not so much "Ho Ho Ho" as "Oh ho hum," and I was dismayed by how disinterested it is in its ostensible lead. If you want "married mom is secretly a badass spy," try WHO IS ERIN CARTER, which is less gay, but more fun.
HELSTROM (2020): Muddled, dreary Hulu horror-drama based on D-list Marvel Comics characters Satana and Damian Hellstrom, Son of Satan, here known strictly as Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana Helstrom (Sydney Lemmon). In the show, the adult siblings' now-institutionalized mother Victoria (Elizabeth Marvel) is possessed and their father is/was a demonic serial killer, so Daimon and Ana both have powers; Daimon, a college professor in Portland, has a sideline as a demon hunter and exorcist, while mean lesbian Ana is a trader in rare artifacts with a hobby of supernaturally assassinating rich assholes. A late holdover from the era before Marvel Studios TV projects became completely Mouseified, HELSTROM doesn't have the clammy deracinated theme-park blandness of the Disney+ shows, but it's still a wearisome slog. Daimon is boring, and I loathed his self-righteous noviate sidekick Gabriella (Ariana Guerra), but Ana's dead-eyed bitchiness, killer outfits, and silly haircut are kind of fun, at least in the early episodes. It might have worked better with an X-FILES/KOLCHAK-style monster-of-the-week format, but it fails to generate the atmosphere needed for a PG-13/TV-MA horror story, and the indecipherable plot bogs down in reactionary "redemptive power of family" horseshit. CONTAINS LESBIANS? The sole reason for watching, but while the show tells us that Ana is an inveterate womanizer, we never once see her kiss a girl! VERDICT: Ana Helstrom is great, but everything else is tedious and unappetizing. CWs apply for quasi-incest themes, medical torture, parental abuse, and an icky supernatural forced-pregnancy plot.
THE LINCOLN LAWYER (2022– ): Agreeable but very ordinary legal drama, based on the Michael Connelly novels, about L.A. defense attorney Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), trying to get back in the game after a stint in rehab and unexpectedly inheriting the clients of a colleague who's just been murdered. Becki Newton and Neve Campbell costar as Mickey's ex-wives, with Jazz Raycole as his client-turned driver Izzy, who chauffeurs Mickey around in a Lincoln SUV and acts as his sounding board, and occasional guest appearances by Elliott Gould. Created by David E. Kelley and Ted Humphrey, this is an utterly conventional lawyer show, with the usual contrivances and limitations (like recurring bouts of smug whorephobia), and even at his lowest moments, Mickey is much too affluent to really sell the "feisty underdog" shtick. Nonetheless, it's a well-polished formula, buoyed by Garcia-Rulfo's likeable lead performance, and it works better than the disappointing 2011 movie with Matthew McConaughey, although I wish that the show would allow more time for Mickey's smaller cases, which are more satisfying than the big case plots. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Izzy is gay, but it only comes up once or twice a season. VERDICT: Nothing special, but it goes down easily.

Katashi Shibata, 34, has called Coronado home for all their life. As an assassin, their world is steeped in vials of venom, snakescale leather, and the soft glow of lights on the highway. Often found tending to their snakes, they move through life with Fighter by The Score in their ear.
GENERAL
character name: katashi shibata
alias (es): kt
face claim: andrew koji
birthday: april 7th
sexuality: gay (but only fumiko knows) (dmitri dni)
moral alignment: lawful evil
occupation: assassin of the kagehito
affiliation: the shibata family
3 positive traits: obedient, good under pressure, reliable
3 negative traits: stubborn, vengeful, impatient
character summary:
a loyal servant and heir of the shibata empire ( and most importantly, older brother to fumiko shibata) katashi shibata reconciles his own personal missions (secret) and the duty he has to the kagehito and his family's fortune.
QUICK FACTS
his first love is snakes and everything else comes secondary. yes, seriously. he spends most hours of the day tending to them even outside of harvesting and making use of their venom. (they are all venomous species that have NOT been defanged or deglanded.)
on paper he is an employee of one of the family banks and doesn't care about any implications of that. call him a nepotism baby to his face, i dare you. he has WORKED for his position! ...in the kagehito.
his vehicle of choice is a motorbike that he takes care of almost as much as his snakes. because of this, he has a layman's understanding of bike mechanics.
POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS
others in the kagehito: katashi is not very much for friendships, but his fellow assassins are about as close as he can get. they would naturally know more about him than most people since they were all raised and trained together... for better or for worse. usually for worse. there's a lot of potential here i think! secret lovers, rivals, etc. all of it is ofc secondary to his duty but let's talk about it!
clients: especially involved in the other crime families, especially del bosques! or at least aligned with them! he is one of the best in his field (not that all the kagehito aren't... they are... except fumi sorry girl) and has a lot of confirmed (/unconfirmed... except to who matters) kills.
idk: idk. lets just plot stuff out let's vibe.
