The kids went to Grammy’s for a sleepover and Grammy also gave us a movie gift card AND we had a free movie ticket pass so Dan and I went to see Wicked. I LOVED it. We saw the show in Philly back in 2013 but we had crappy seats so it was not the best experience (Dan bought limited viewing seats not realizing that’s why they were so cheap LOL).
But we get to the theater and go to the theater it’s in, and sonic is playing??? We were confused because our movie was set to start very soon! Dan went to go ask about it and the girl who scanned our tickets is like oh no never mind you are theater 5 not 4! So we’re like oh ok. Guess they changed the theater? Go into theater 5. We purposely picked end seats and our seats were NOT on the end. The new theater layout was way bigger than the theater layout we chose seats for on the app (so the seats we chose were now in the middle). We were like WTF? I asked another group to confirm they were also seeing wicked here and they were. So I was like well whatever, we’ll just sit in the seats we picked even though they changed the theater on us. Then I was like well no, this is annoying I purposely chose the end!
So I went out to talk to the girl and she’s like eh go to the box office they can move your seats. I’m like oh ok! Well the box office was like “I’m so sorry but the manager is really busy because we are very short staffed! Go ahead and sit in the end seats you want, if someone comes and makes you move, then let us know and we’ll make sure we fix it” … I was like well okay! The movie was about to start so I went back in the theater and we just stayed in the seats bc I felt like I was being annoying lol plus like really who cares? We paid for the movie regardless. then a few minutes later a huge group comes in and they are like hey these are our seats??? And Dan was like no these are ours? And we show each other the seat numbers. So now we’re like WTF? So I say it’s fine we’ll move (down to the end, which is what I wanted LOL). The movie was literally a few minutes from starting and I hate conflict so I was like it’s fine!!!! Whatever! I just want to enjoy the movie yay end seats.
But still at this point I’m like WTF is going on. I ask Dan to check the app to see what seats are still available and he’s like well the 2 new end seats we are in are open still so we’re fine. But he’s like “but I don’t understand! When I bought the tickets, the theater layout was different! Ther was the long row in the middle and then the rows on the sides only had 2 seats each! This theater is way bigger, so all the seats are messed up!! And my tickets say theater 4 still!!!” So we’re like, well fine after the movie we will definitely find a manager and ask about it because this all just seems weird and the whole point of choosing your seat is that you choose your seat! It’s not our fault they changed the theater!!!
Well then Dan keeps looking at his app and the tickets and he finally realizes …. He purchased tickets for TOMORROW 💀💀💀💀💀 I was like SERIOUSLY 😂😂😂
But what’s so weird is the girl scanned our tickets???? And at first an error message popped up and she rescanned them and let us go in????? Wouldn’t it have been like nope not valid and she would have said something??? We had already bought popcorn so like maybe she didn’t want to deal with it???? I have rbf but I’m really nice to employees??? 😂😂😂😂
At this point though I’m like well what should we do????? And Dan was like nothing let’s just stay and then we won’t bother saying anything obviously bc it’s our fault 😂😂😂😂 so dumb. I am still laughing about it!!!!! I mean we did pay for tickets!!!! 😂

wicked thoughts, under cut for brevity:
oh no. there is exposition text at the beginning. this ain't a good start, y'all. this is a very very bad start
okay okay this is winning me over, it does just look so joyful in oz, during the overture
why the change from "atrocious" to "uncanny"? seems unnecessary, and i don't think it gets across the anger and hatred as much - "uncanny" is weird, "atrocious" is bad
a burning efigy in the middle of the this cutesy little colourful village
the flash-forwards of their friendship........ guys why are you DOING this??? your audience isn't stupid!!! even if they didn't already know the story of wicked going into the theatre, i think the subtle "glinda the good witch is singing about how wonderful it is that the wicked witch of the west is dead, but has a pained look on her face" acting is an intriguing hook to get them curious about the story to come!!!!! "is it true you were her friend?" "yes... well, i did know her... (*flashes of glinda and elphaba touching hands*) our paths did cross..." is NOTHING. cut that shit out, wicked 2024! (of course, it's a 2-hour 40-minute movie that is the first act of a 2-hour 45-minute musical, so i imagine there will be lots of time for throwing in exposition dumps and whatnot (i swear i'm not trying to go into this with a judgement already. i love wicked so much, and i want to love this movie so much))
i do admit it's nice that the dialogue has a little space to breathe. i've never really minded, but on reflection the stage production is very... rapid
i really do love the environments. like, the sets and costumes and shit in the background - it really is such a fantastical world, cartoonish and childlike and bright
GOD cynthia erivo can fuckin BELT it. this might be telling on myself a little bit, but i was so focused on how stunning i knew ariana grande was gonna be as galinda (i was right, ofc, btw) that i didn't even consider that this newest elphaba might possibly hold a candle to idina menzel (high praise)
get the fuck out of here with ANOTHER FLASHFORWARD????? of something bad happening in oz???????? god trust your fucking audience
oh my god this fiyero is here to FUCK (and i agree with every person at the school also wanting to reciprocate)
the reality of oz such that sometimes people just break into song and/or dance, and that any given group of people can potentially just join in a dance number, choreography and all, without batting an eye - that this is just how the world works is a wonderful way of demonstrating how oz is just simply a different land than our own. much like barbie 2023
i mentioned before that i liked letting things breathe in this movie - elphaba's and galinda's scene where they dance at the oz dust ballroom has literally made me tear up, something i don't think the stage production did, and the ost hasn't
this movie is so gay. we love it
in the promos when i saw oz displayed as an actually green city, i was a little upset bc i've always been especially tickled by the fact that the emerald city isn't made of emeralds. everyone just wears emerald-colored glasses. i think that's a very pointed and sinisterly funny commentary on self-delusion of the goodness of a blatantly shitty government. furthermore, the green glasses were an explicit part of the show. they sold em with the posters. i still have a pair from when i saw the production in high school. i'm very disappointed that they didn't find some way to use them. they would have fit right into this movie. sigh
i do love oz as this exaggerated retrofuturistic steampunk land. that sort of thing was always implied in the book and musical but it's so cool to just see all the gears and cranks and steam and shit
i do like the cameos. i do not like that it's a new song that's basically another iteration of the expo dump at the start. hate it.
jeff goldblum is fucking inspired casting. cold take, but not wrong. love it
okay okay okay we're here at the end of part one, the climax of the show... please don't let me down, "defying gravity" from wicked 2024...
i can't believe they turned a 6-minute song into the last half hour of the movie. i can't believe i was fine with it. it could have been so cheesy, so flat, so pretend. it was...
good. this movie was good. still shouldn't have been 2 movies. i loved this adaptation so much.

Putting down my thoughts on Wicked for posterity. General stuff first and spoilers under the cut
I liked a lot of the aesthetics of stuff but god the colors are so washed out. Look at Wizard of Oz then look at this. It’s embarrassing.
No complaints on the vocals, everyone delivered. The weakest were probably Morrible and the Wizard but they don’t have big singing roles
I cried the entire time. But every 30 minutes or so I’d ask myself “am I crying bc the movie is making me cry? Or because I love Wicked in general?” I think it was the second
For a movie over two and a half hours, it didn’t feel long at all. Felt like it flew by
There were maybe a dozen people in our theater but we were all dressed up, all singing. I had my Madame Alexander Elphaba doll in her Shiz uniform with me, and my sister brought a giant bubble wand and blew bubbles when Glinda first appeared. It was fun 🩷💚 I’m gonna see it five more times in theaters
I tried to go in as blind as possible. No interviews, no articles, no watching or listening to song clips. I didn’t even know Idina and Kristin had cameos, but I wept when I saw them. The bit went on maybe a minute too long but it was still enjoyable
Loved all the references to the Wizard of Oz movie that I caught. Mainly Elphaba riding her bike with the lion cub in the basket, and someone using the word “gulch” lol. Oh, and the old timey title card was cute
The costumes were great but why were there so many repeat outfits? Madame Morrible wore multiple outfits multiple times. Boq and Fiyero didn’t even get second outfits. And I mourn Glinda’s cute white school uniform and yellow One Short Day dress. And the blue in general from the stage show
Buuut I know they were pushing the pink&green aesthetic sooo hard in the marketing and merch, and obviously it’s hoping to be a bit of a Barbie spiritual successor, so whatever. At least all of Glinda’s costumes were gorgeous
I loved the Wizard’s little miniature of the whole country. It reminded me of a WoO themed Polly Pocket set I had as a kid.
The way they thought they needed an action scene at the end? They did not need it. I didn’t hate it but it was just like come on can we focus
And ugh the ending song. I’m disappointed in how that was arranged. I didn’t mind Elphaba falling at first and seeing her little self and then coming up. But idk the way they kept stopping and starting the song when they should’ve just run with it was a little bothersome.
Madame Morrible’s line delivery on “wicked witch” was also disappointing. It’s so iconic and important in the musical but there’s no emphasis on it here
I did like the change to “Something Bad”, and having the little meeting of all the talking animals instead of just Dr Dillamond and Elphaba in the classroom
And like idk I felt like there could’ve been some more creative camera work over all. There were a few attempts but idk. People need to learn how to spice things up for musicals, visually
That’s all the specifics I can think of right now. If you read all this, ily 🩷💚🩷💚

Tell me, what did you love about Descendants before the writing went to pot?
The older I get, the more I see I don’t think I ever really liked it in the first place, I just liked its potential- 🫣
I was always an ever after high girlie. Always. But a crush when I was in highschool was like obsessed with Mal. She dyed her hair purple and I dyed my hair pink, and she used to braid my hair in a fancy fish braid to look like Mal from cotillion. I think I got into descendants so me and her had something to talk about 😅 But one day I was at Walmart flipping through a Wicked World graphic novel and just fell in love with Audrey immediately. I’m a Briar and Cupid girlie, so Audrey kinda reminded me of bits and pieces of them, so bubbly and sassy and pink. I remember thinking Audrey was so cute and getting the Junior Novelization of the first movie from my public library. Sooo yeah I got into descendants to get the girl, but I stayed bc of Princess Audrey Rose, Queen of Mean <3
And let me tell you: on paper? Just from actions alone? Audrey is so endearing, she’s a little bratty and she sounded awkward when she first met, but you could clearly see how much she cared about Ben, how scared she and her family were by Maleficent, and how much she wanted to be the perfect daughter for her family’s name. Jane actually came across as the nasty one ngl.
but, reading the book aside, I started looking at some descendants fandom stuff and was like wow you all really hate Audrey?? So I watched the movie and yeah they would play intimidating background music when she was around and use this camera angle that kinda panned up to her and the VK’s standing below so they literally just framed her as a villain cinematically? And I think that’s the neat thing about reading a Junior novelization first; you really see a character in an objective light and not how the story is framing them to be.
more descendants stuff AND highschool crush stuff down here if you want to read it lol it’s kinda long tho-
I got over my crush quickly bc she had this habit of being mean to me when she was depressed and when she was feeling better she would randomly start being nice to me again? I also once told her how I felt and in the moment she was very kind and even gave me a hug and said she felt honoured but it just wasn’t how she felt bc she only saw me as a friend, valid. And then one day she switched it up and started making fun of me and said that I got rejected? Not valid! “The worst she can say is no” yeah no. Now get this: one day I went out with one of my friends (who later became my highschool gf), and that girl suddenly asked me out after, saying she changed her mind? Big no from me that time. my life was more of a toxic yuri adventure than Descendants ever was LMAO.
But I did truly love Audrey. Eah > descendants forever (partially bc eah has 2 canon lesbians and 2 canon bisexuals whereas descendants just has pan mal all by herself) but Audrey was a fave of mine for a bit. I learnt Queen of Mean on the piano and I used to sing and play it in my living room and my Dad would nod his head and tap his foot to it :)
I think I was for descendants for its potential more than the content itself. I love Disney villains so so much, and started collecting descendants stuff to put with my villains collection (a Maleficent doll, an Evil Queen doll, a Cruella doll, an Ursula doll, a ‘Disney villain evil scent candle’ that just smells like berries, and a Disney villain classic guide). But then I found out that ever after high was going to get a season 6 about the Wizard of Oz AND a crossover with monster high but it got cancelled bc descendants plagiarized it and then became more popular??? I was fuming. And then Rise of Red came out and just- it went from being “oh tehe children of villains” to “okay so wonderland is closed off and also all of the fairy tale characters went to high school together 😃” I was like HUH??? I mean yeah they had copied ever after high but it was never that obvious and blatant til now. Also: why make more movies after Cameron died? We should honour his memory. The third movie literally concluded everything. So now I have a bunch of descendants books I bought in highschool I put with my Disney villain stuff, and I just hate descendants now so wtf am I supposed to do with it? I have a Facebook marketplace account but it’s not taking off :(
to this day I still adore the fanart, and actually had bought some Mal and Audrey comissions a couple years ago that I treasure! The characters in descendants are so pretty, I love the bright colours. I got my comissions of Mal dressed up as Elsa bc I had to see it, and Audrey dressed up as her father Prince Phillip, sword and shield and all! I’m so happy with those commissions! So many ppl in the fandom are so creative and made these designs look even better. I’ll always love fanart whether I like the franchise itself or not lol.
I’m going to see Wicked in the theatre at a friend’s birthday party coming up and I feel like it’ll be my new descendants; a fun, villainous, musical story. I can see myself making moodboards and buying merch and that’ll fill that Rotten To The Core Fairytale Villains hole in my heart LMAO. Also: Glinda is gonna be my new Audrey I can see it already.
so here is your answer about what I loved before the writing got even worse: the potential. I can’t really say I did like any of the writing- Like at all :0 But I LOVE fairytale villains, so that was a cool franchise idea, and I can appreciate the attempt with the found family trope between the core four. And also Audrey (my baby <3), Evie, and Uma are icons :3 The first two movies are okay but the third movie is awful 💀 and I have never seen royal wedding or rise of red and we’re keeping it that way lmao
here’s a cookie for you if you read all of that 🍪

I saw you reblogged the random asks post. And since I know you like musicals, what are your top 3 and do you have a least favorite musical?
Yesss I love random asks, and I’m excited about this one bc I love musicals!!
My favorite of ALL TIME is wicked, and anyone who calls me a fake theater kid for that is the real fake theater kid bc they aren’t secure enough in their theater-kid-ness to like a popular musical. Yes, almost everyone knows it, but the reason I like it is because I am a SUCKER for villain backstories/tragic heroes/antagonist redemption etc. This is why I am obsessed with Anakin Skywalker’s story and also can’t stop writing Good Nathaniel Benedict fanfic? So Elphaba is just amazing to me because she has such a believable side of the story while also doing things we know are morally questionable, AND she sings the coolest songs about it. no good deed is quite possibly one of my favorite musical songs ever. All of wicked’s music sounds like epic movie soundtrack but with lyrics and I’m HERE FOR IT. You wouldn’t believe how much wicked fanfic I’ve read.
My second favorite is newsies!! My five year old foster brother is currently obsessed with it and can sing all the lyrics to most of the songs, which is the most adorable thing in the world. The newsies are all adorable, and in the movie version Jack is Christian Bale and in the proshot he’s Jeremy Jordan so like, main character is easy on the eyes either way lol. Also Katherine is so relatable. She sings about writer’s block, she sings my soul!! All the ensemble songs are so powerful and the L Y R I C S! I could do a whole other post on my favorite newsies lyrics. You go Feldman. It’s good stuff.
My third favorite is probably Next to Normal, because not only is the music fire, it’s amazing at the way it portrays how mental illness affects the people who surround you. Also, Aaron Tveit is in it, and his voice is hot (and also he is hot) so that is an automatic YES!
My least favorite is SpongeBob the musical. The music is bad and my perfect pitch can’t handle Texas Song.
Thank you for the ask :D hope you enjoyed my ramblings!

Watching John Wick 3 tonight bc apparently I never saw it and the fella wants to see #4 this weekend so we're (and by we I mean me) liveblogging like it's 2009. Snacks: nearby. Disbelief: suspended. Let's go.
10:15p HE IS IN A WEAPON MUSEUM. EXCELLENT START. I have not seen a sillier amount of knives thrown around outside of an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon.
10:23 Now he is on a horse with the most beautiful hair in the world. Truly the Keanu Reeves of horses. (Side note: horses naturally have violence in their hearts this makes sense)
1027 fuck yeah Anjelica Houston is running the Department of Tragic Backstory. Oooooh she has Caravaggio's Judith Beheading Holofernes over her mantle. Gentileschi's two versions of Judith Slaying Holofernes were my hyperfixation last fall so I happen to have a coffee table book in front of me with that exact painting in it.
10:36 The Adjudicator is staying in room 217 at the Continental, the room number Stephen King stayed in at the Stanley Hotel and got spooked and wrote a shining.
10:50 Not for nothing but I feel like Anjelica Houston got off a little easy with a punishment that was essentially Double Avocado Slicing Accident. Oh and a lot of her henchfolk got murdered I guess.
10:55 Is the "seek the dog star" reference bc everything is dog themed here or bc. Y'know. Dogstar.
10:57 Retuning to our Dog Revenge roots I see. (Important note: The dog is okay!) Side note: you know there was a long writers' room conversation about making John Wick's new dog a super cool dog assassin and someone was like "no, he doesn't want that life for his dog but I do like the sound of 'dog assassin.'" so they had to make up some new dog characters to be dog assassins.
11:08 Larry Fish is just the best. That is all.
11:14 Jesus Fuck why is every IOU in this universe cashed in with a side of Body Horror?! Also I had always assumed that was his wedding ring on account of John Wick being a Dead Wife Guy. (I have a whole Wife Guy Taxonomy post I'm pecking at btw.)
11:18 Motorcycle Katana Fight. Followed by John Wick literally touching Base to be declared safe in Murder Tag.
11:23 Chekhov's Very Pointy Chess Pieces?
11:25 The thing about these movies is every single actor in it seems to be having a goddamn blast.
11:32: Activate the Emergency Color Changing Rope Lights! Big fancy switch for what nerds do with a smart speaker.
11:43 This series fucking LOVES a Hall Of Mirrors fight. Love how everyone is like "it is an absolute honor to try and murder you sir. Big fan, sir. HUGE fan."
11:48 I'm sure someone has written a solid essay on why John Wick is hot in a tumblrina sort of way, all I have is this wall covered in thumbtacks and red string and scraps of paper with things like "SUIT ACTUALLY FITS" and "PERPETUALLY DAMP" "IS KEANU REEVES" and "BLOOD?" written on them.
11:58 OOF. That was a lot of falls. Baby boy is having such a week.
12:00a LAR. RY. FIIIIIIIIIIISH.
Well dang I guess I was wrong about the Very Pointy Chess Set. I do hope ol' JDubs gets like, 12 hours to a week to catch some sleep and not get shot at between the end of #3 and the beginning of #4.

The Winner Takes it All
Last night was Oscar night! A big night for rich people to get richer. I do not have a problem with that, but I do have some other things eating at me.
Are people really celebrities when you need someone to tell you who they are? Even after their names are given most of them are still a mystery to me. They should be referred to as performers or actors until the majority of people in all age demographics can identify who they are and what they have been in. Call it age bias but most of the younger ones all look alike to me. (And please, of you are under twenty five and are interviewed on the red. sorry champagne carpet before the ceremony DO NOT SAY how you have been working your whole life for this honor. They should have Will Smith standing by to slap you if you do).
Let's look at the winners. I may be wrong but there appears to be a criteria for this. When it comes to best movie the ones that made the most at the box office rarely win. I believe it is because those movies have already made enough money. They want you to go see the ones that didn't. The rich taking care of the less rich. When it comes to acting awards, that is a whole different enchilada. Hollywood likes diversity so that is how they vote. If you want to win you need to
a) lose a lot of weight
b) gain a lot of weight
c) kiss someone of the same sex
d) have your character addicted to something
e) be old and this could be your last chance to win one
f) be the first person with your background to be eligible. They love to say that this is the first xxxxx to win. If you are a cyclops from Patagonia with turret's and you were in a movie, clear a spot on your mantel.
g) do a nude scene especially if you are way out of shape
h) don't wear any make-up
The above is a broad view of my findings over the years. Let's talk about last night. I have some thoughts on what I saw, which I must confess does not cover the entire event. There were two interruptions. Salma Hayek came out to present something. I saw her and temporarily passed out. I like her. the second thing is anything that happened after 10 o'clock eastern time. I fell asleep so I missed all the fun. I did see the results this morning. Following up on point 'f' above it was a good night to be a Canadian. Other than that here are a few things I noticed.
What the hell do these people wear when walking the carpet or greeting the 'celebrities'? One woman was wearing see through pajama bottoms, many had bed head, and some are apparently color blind.
I was listening to one of the Oscar nominated songs and thought it was from a foreign film. I could not understand a word the singer was saying so I googled it and to my surprise the words are in English. I would say that I will never go to one of her concerts but for the life of me I have no idea who she is.
I was disappointed because no one got slapped. Where are the Three Stooges when you need them?
A lot of movies were not seen by either my wife or myself so they can't be good. We see a lot of movies.
There were a lot of sequels and remakes nominated. I do not believe they should be unless they are better than the original movie (or first in the franchise) AND that first movie won an Oscar. We need more originality. I know this will exclude John Wick 4 from next year's Oscars but I stand by my decision
All the big categories come after I am in bed. Put the Oscars on in the afternoon. It will also give the winners and losers more time to party afterward and get home at a decent time. Sleep is important.
Did I say it was a good night for Canadians? Just checking. But if we keep winning we will stop winning as it will not be unique unless we find someone from Newfoundland that can read or a person from BC who is not stoned all the time.
What is next for me? The Emmy's of course, where there will be a lot of shows nominated from streaming services I do not have so I will not know anything about the shows or actors. It will force me to get those new services. It is all a plot I tell you.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK: I am not sure why we need to declare the best of something, although it is nice having plaques or trophies with your name on them.

I watched Wicked last night, and honestly, it was fucking excellent. As a movie by itself, I’d rate it a 7/10 which is pretty high for me (someone who hates movie musicals). Taking into account that it’s an adaptation, however, it’s an easy 10/10. I didn’t feel the running time at all, I was actually suprised that it was as long as it was bc it felt a lot shorter for me.
Cynthia was PHENOMENAL, but that’s to be expected if you’re familiar with her work. Her rendition of the wizard and I was just about the most wholesome musical number I’ve ever experienced. And the way she played the character was just so grounded in her beliefs and her gut, she was just so refreshing and good.
Ariana was hilarious. I’m one of the few people who loves the musical and didn’t have reservations about Ariana’s casting. Whatever her faults may be, one thing that girl has is an INSANE work ethic. So when she was casted, I was sure it was bc she genuinely dedicated herself to being the best person auditioning for Galinda. And she proved me right. I do think her acting falters in the calmer moments. Idk how to explain it, she’s a little bit akward in the moments where the plot doesn’t have her doing anything. It’s definitely harder to separate the character from the pop star there. But then when the story is focused on her, it’s like a switch.
Her rendition of Popular was insane. Ik some Oscar buzz is surrounding her for this role, while I enjoyed her before this performance I wasn’t really agreeing that it was something Oscar-worthy. But if she does manage to get a nomination, it really will be bc of this number.
Honestly it was really enjoyable, very very funny. The the way it switches form dialogue to music number was very smooth and swift. That tends to be my biggest gripes with musical, my inability to suspend disbelief that you’re talking one minute and singing the next. But its really natural in Wicked. Also, the way the musical numbers are directed is so pleasing, the movement of the camera and all, it’s very beautiful work.
As far as how the movie LOOKS. It’s genuinely stunning sets/fields. I didn’t think the color grading was that bad, the real villain here is whoever did the backlighting. That is the one thing I really didn’t like, I was almost blinded watching this film because it’s so BRIGHT. All things considered, I’d give it a 6/10 in this area. The costumes were stunning though and the practical sets were also really beautiful. The only ones I didn’t like where the emerald palace.
I will say, the movie is VERY childish, which ik it’s an issue with some people (I mean it is rated pg and marketed towards kids). But, again it’s a very meta script. Like insanely so. Everyone but Elphaba is purposely written to look like a lunatic. I’d say the movie is primarily a comedy with a crushing closing number (Defying Gravity was freaking excellent btw).
Sorry for the long review, just saw that you mentioned it recently and that’s why I thought on spearing my two cents! It was honestly super enjoyable.
No worries about the length, I'm always here for some movie hype! And yeah, I didn't find the trailer exciting at all, especially since I had to see it a thousand damn times, but at least the actual movie is rad.

it's been yonks since i even saw a tag game and i love to overshare, so here ya go
tagged by @gated
Favourite colour: historically, pink, but currently having a bit of a lilac moment
Last song: like a girl does by peach prc (it's gay and it slaps)
Last movie: interview with a vampire (1994) - i'd never seen it before & it was really interesting actually to see how that movie (and i assume the books) influenced subsequent vampire fiction. also (spoiler alert for a nearly thirty-year-old movie) brad pitt goes all john wick on a group of theatre kid vampires who wear sparkly capes, do silly little murder pantomimes and are led by one of the most magician-coded characters i've ever seen and honestly??? i wouldn't blame him if he'd done that even without them having killed his serial killer pseudo daughter first
Currently watching: the bear season 2 - these characters are all so mentally ill and i EAT that shit UP. i'm like that's* fire, chef *their trauma
Other Stuff I Watched This Year: poker face (it slaps), heartstopper season 2 (continues to be cute), the fast and furious movies (all of them) (i became obsessed) (i have literally so many opinions), a bunch of d20 and dropout stuff (highlights include gamechanger, make some noise and neverafter) & of course my regularly scheduled weeb shit (csm, jjk, mha, bluelock & banana fish ((speaking of trauma))
Shows I Dropped This Year: the witcher season 3 (i simply forgot i was watching it)
Currently reading: between books atm! just finished re-reading ari & dante and am planning to read the sequel next, even though i've heard pretty unanimously negative things abt it 😂
Currently listening to: simply so many podcasts - gender spiral, material girls, maintenance phase, the dream, overinvested, dragon friends, bigsofttitty.png, &c. &c. &c.
Currently working on: marking assignments rip
Current obsession: i sort of have it deliberately on hold until i finish marking bc i have no self-control or chill, but baldur's gate 3 will rule my life as soon as i have time to play it
tagging YOU! yes, you! you reading this right now! if you want to do it pls do & also pls tag me so i can see your answers ❤️

For the movie meme - 8, 19, 38, 69?
8: what movie are you looking forward to coming out the most?
im excited to go see dune part 2 with ben in the cinema. so fucking hyped the killers of the flower moon is finally coming soon. obviously im counting down the days till mi dead reckoning part 2 and beyond the spiderverse as well
19: favorite movie action hero?
i mean this ones HARD. as per the previous ask, john mcclane is probably tip top of the list, maybe just behind ethan hunt the all time absolute fave forever. i also have a lot of love for rambo, especially in the first movie bc wow is it so much devastating than i expected when i first saw it as a kid. john wick too. and i know he was originally tv but i absolutely have to give hannibal smith a shout here
38: film(s) you’ve watched on a date?
deathly hallows sticks in my mind just bc that was when i learned i hate going to the cinema on first dates. since then ive not really had that many 'going on a date with someone new' experiences. but me and ben have done a lot of movie date nights. endgame in the cinema was a big one, and we got to see glass onion during its limited cinema release so we made that a proper date night out. i did a few with char back in the day (17 again and i love you philip morris particular standouts)
69: the main movie you remember from your childhood?
nice. also this ones nice and easy, the nightmare before christmas, a bugs life, hercules and peter pan
thanks anon <3

ok
so this week I saw 4 movies because my spouse and I are insane and decided to go to drive in theaters and I got the dates wrong so we went to a different one that was closed on thursday but then still wanted to go to the other one so we just did them both one night after another. in order of how good the films were here's reviews no one wants:
1 the popes exorcist - whoooooooo I was quaking in my car. this horror film knows that the best strange bedfellows are horror and comedy and knew how to balance it to make a truly impactful horror. implied that the Spanish inquision wasn't the church's fault bc it was actually Satan's fault. hilarious. great acting. I'm obsessed with exorcists being possessed so like yes all the way down. the trailer is a bad rep of the movie btw
2 (yallr gonna hate me for this but) Fast X - ok. hear me out. I have literally never seen any f&f movies. not a one. but Jason Momoa SERVED in this film. "what should we blow up? the Vatican? lmao. *ok*.. but yall are going to hell :)" this film was a series of one liners but somehow like actually made me laugh. somehow effectively used one liners. the women in the movie were so fucking fierce. the fights had truly gorgeous choreography. the bomb was stupid big. just a fun movie to watch.
3 john wick 4 - I don't have much to say, I *like John wick* , John wick has an extremely personal place in my heart, love him. it just didn't impress me, felt like I was just watching all the previous JW films cut and paste together? had its moments! choreography of course was amazing. eh?
4. Renfield- I have so much to say about renfield. again, horror and comedy are strange bedfellows but opposed to popes exorcist which had a balance 60/40 horror comedy, this film was imbalanced like 90/10 comedy horror. this was the movie we originally set out to watch (knowing it wasn't going to be great but hoping it would be worth it) when the weekend took a turn and then we watched 3 other movies also. what I will sum up about renfield to you, my followers, is that it was copaganda!!!.??????? hello???? insane!!!! it was about the myth of the one good cop fighting corruption and busting the criminals :) but for some reason used music from my chemical romance and made jokes about tumblr. in a copaganda film. that for some reason nic cage was in. here's the thing. nic cage as Dracula. is *everything*. he is nasty he is hot he is terror and anger and style. he served a Dracula you have never seen before. petty and immortal. it was amazing. and it was juxtaposed with a pathetic white boy who would have appealed to the lorax era tumblr. i am at a loss for words??? this film was riddled with #Irony and such incredibly dumbed down and straight forward story telling (ironic boy voice:"I get my power from eating bugs!") that it was clearly made for Teens. and through, *all of this.* Nic Cage was serving the cuntiest Dracula I have ever seen. like I would say if you're a cage fan, go ahead and watch it, but beware, you're about to see one of the dumbest films cage has ever been in. and I've seen Zandalee on laser disc, and that FNAF knock off he did. I get why some 20 year old tumblrinas are a fan of renfield. yall probably like Brooklyn99 too. but I'm promising you it's such a bad movie with bad story telling, and somehow, great acting.

hihi crow anon here !! i saw your ask about you not watching many romance movies and thought, what would the tot guys favourite movie genre be ??
p.s. i saw that you enjoyed action movies a lot more and i feel like luke would be the exact same !!
HULLO CROW!!! very sorry this ask took a while, my brain has been the pear_wiggler.gif for a few days kJBKJSKFSD
nxx boys' favorite movie genres (and how it's like watching movies with them bc i swerved a bit with my thoughts)
wc: 1.6k
luke pearce: enjoys watching action movies but oh my god you do not want to watch them with him
ur right, i love action movies and also i love projecting on luke pearce and thus luke pearce loves action movies as well. the caveat though is that if you watch an action movie with luke pearce, you will want to strangle him the entire time. because every second any fight scene or car chase or ANYTHING is happening on screen, luke quietly murmurs "Well, Actually---" before going on to explain why whats going on is unrealistic, see, john wick is using a Heckler and Koch P30L and this type of handgun doesnt actually---
mc: SHUT UP SHUT UP JUST WATCH THE MOVIE OH MY GOD
luke cant help it!!!! hes BEEN in most of these scenes irl and i just remember that one time in his personal story 2 when they were in the escape room talking about Zero and Zero's lover mc was like "hhhh this is so sweet, Zero fell in love" and luke was like "Well, Actually thats not possible because Zero is an android and according to the Turing Test---" LIKE. LUKE DOES THIS. HES SUCH A DORK AND ANNOYING ABOUT IT (AFFECTIONATE)
the reason luke enjoys action movies isnt because of the accuracy (which he maintains is never present) it's because action movies are fun and stupid and gets adrenaline going with no risk to anybody irl. plus, he just seems like the type of guy that has to see an explosion every week for his emotional wellbeing.
his favorite action movie, even if it's inaccurate, is The Raid (2011). the fight choreography in there is just fuckin impeccable to him (and to me KJBKJSKF)
luke's guilty pleasure tho is romcoms. he and mc had watched a bunch of them growing up and so theres a handful of "old" (remember: luke and mc were born in 2006) 90s romcoms that are comfort movies to him. so watching any romcom will get a pavlovian response of "ah, cozy happy content peace and harmony on earth" from him
artem wing: many genres because hes That Guy Who Likes Film but hes not annoying to watch those films with, drawn towards historical/period and sci-fi movies tho
artem the movie critic!!! the guy who reviews movies under an alias apparently (god hes such a nerd)!!! the guy who, in his personal story 2, was so puzzled when he watched that one office romance drama that the only review he left was "..." (REAL SHIT, NOT JOKING, IT SAYS HE DID THIS IN THE ILLUSTRATION). artem wing is That Guy Who Likes Film and one would think thatd make him fucking insufferable, but artem's Film Guy energy is softened like butter into something beautiful and endearing and, most importantly, tolerable, because i think artem would rather jump off a building than ever "mansplain"
but yea since he likes films, hes been around, in terms of genre!! very well rounded and will probably have polite and earnest recommendations for any genre u want to get into.
hes never the type to Talk while a movie is playing as well, he wants to enjoy the experience and if hes with another person, he wants them to enjoy as well. any and all discussion on what has been watched only occurs once the credits are rolling. artem wing clenches his fist ever so slightly, when hes watching movies with the others. "marius, luke," he says calmly but in the kind of calm that betrays his desire to get a roll of duct tape to shut those two up. "stop commentating, the movie is not done yet."
his faaaavorite genres though are historical/period films and sci-fi!!! former is bc hes SUCH a repressed bastard and i know hes watched Pride and Prejudice (2005) way too many times always internally thinking, "God, Darcy, you held her hand without gloves? What's next, a lapdance?"
and latter bc hes a nerd and hes mentioned his love for sci-fi!!! just my two cents, but i think artem is a trekkie through and through and he absolutely fucking hated what JJ Abrams did to star trek in the reboot. in general artem gravitates to the more cerebral sci-fi movies. Arrival (2016), Interstellar (2014), Annihilation (2018), that kinda stuff.
i cannot stress this enough, artem is the best to watch movies with if ur the type to really fixate on the movie. because hes fixating on the movie too. like no thoughts, head empty, only cinema, and when the movie is done, thats the only time u will both realize that over the course of watching, the two of you had fallen into a Position Of Cuddling. artem dies, immediately and politely extricates himself from the cuddle, turning away so that nobody sees 1) how red his face is and 2) how badly he wants to go back into that cuddle
marius von hagen: just the most dramatic bullshit possible
okay if what marius is watching does not have a scene where a door is slammed open and a character comes in saying "the paternity test came back and.....HE'S.....HE'S THE FATHER!!!!!!!" or something equal or more than that kind of ridiculous over the top drama, then hes honestly not that interested in it anymore kJBKJSKGJKSDG
his favorite movies are not limited to the defined and accepted genres of movies, his favorites are all over the place but are similar in the sense that theyre kitschy and camp and Doesnt Have To Be Like That But Valiantly Continues To Be Like That Anyway, these are movies that have the vibes of a neon purple flip phone with enough colorful keychains hanging off of it that it wouldnt look amiss if you put it in the hand of the roman who was beating jesus.
I KNOW THE ABOVE DESCRIPTION SOUNDS ABSTRACT so i will give examples: Mamma Mia! (2018), Con Air (1997), Tall Girl (2019)
yes marius has watched Tall Girl (2019) but the one time he said "You think your life is hard? I'm a high school junior wearing size 13 Nikes." luke stuck his foot out and tripped him, sending him face first into the floor. true story. mc, vyn, and artem were there. they clapped.
additionally, hes a noisy person to watch movies with. not in terms of reactions but in terms of his OPINIONS ON EVERYTHING. if luke is only commenting on the accuracy of being able to drift a car sideways on the road, marius is commenting on everything and then commenting on his comments on everything. the only way hes gonna shut up during a movie is if somebody makes out with him (which was his plan all along 🥴🥴🥴)
vyn richter: nature documentaries
mc: ah, vyn, technically a nature documentary isn't a movie genre-
vyn: watch Patagonia: Earth's Secret Paradise (2015) with me and afterwards, let me know if you have changed your mind
and they watch it together and mc changes her mind
IT'S CINEMA, OKAY!! IM ON VYN'S FUCKIN SIDE HERE!!!! nature documentaries have the plot, the cinematography, the direction, the emotional stakes, theyve got it all while showcasing the narratives of nature. of course, vyn is aware that some nature documentaries can overdramatize some aspects of nature for the feels points, but thats fine for him. if hes going to cry to anything, hed rather cry at animals. they deserve his sincere tears.
(sidenote: ive been thinking lately about how in canon, vyn is/was a hunter. that fascinates me hugely, i see him having a very staunch and unshakeable respect for all creatures of nature. he thinks hunting for sport is distasteful and wrong as it does not utilize the body of the animal for a needed resource food/clothing/etc., instead just as a medium for (mostly) men to stroke their own egos. IDK, I THINK VYN HAS A RLLY GOOD GRASP ON the circle of life, in nature, it's lovely, please feed me venison u hunted, vyn. thank you)
(sidenote 2: vyn would make a REALLY good nature documentary narrator. now thats some asmr i'd love to have...)
watching movies with vyn is much like watching movies with artem, he is focused on the movie and does not speak much unTIL it is somehow made clear to him that you do not mind commentary. once that has happened, please expect vyn to be quietly making jabs at anything he sees onscreen that he thinks is particularly stupid kJBKJF.
bonus: hey what if mc actually really really fucking loved horror movies?
luke is going on and on about how "nope, you cant actually use that murder weapon like tha---[jumpscare]---jeSUS FUCKing CHRIST" and he pulls a knife out of his boot, ready to attack
artem is absolute silence. once the movie is done, mc is excited to gush about all the parts she enjoyed when artem stiffly says "would it be alright if. you did not. leave me alone. tonight."
marius is doing a running commentary the entire time but every time something scary happens he jerks in shock, steadily getting more on edge. once it's done, he's switched on EVERY LIGHT IN THE APARTMENT.
vyn seems fine the entire time thru the movie and even after it. but then he gets up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water and then the sound of a raccoon outside rattling a garbage bin makes him scream so goddamn loud.
thanks for this ask crow!!! i hope you enjoy this :DDD

Hi Sam, this may sound odd but I wanted to let u know a Wicked writer just saw yr Wickedly Queer animation & found it delightful. Winnie Holzman's my mom. I stumbled on yr adorable (& impressively detailed!!) vid, sent it to her & watched her react over facetime lol. She gave me permission to tell u she loved it & this was the only way I could find to DM u (sry I'm typing this weird bc character limit) Your Why Wicked is Gay essay is extremely well done too. Mad props from yr fellow queer -SD
Yes. Hello, Savannah Dooley, I totally reacted in a Normal Way while reading your message and did not awkwardly chuckle and repeatedly mumble "i'm sorry???" while walking circles in my apartment for fifteen minutes straight.
Where to begin. First of all, this is too specific not to be real, so in the odd chance this is a prank—nobody tell me. I want to live in a universe where Winnie Holzman, writer of the friggin' book for Wicked the musical, watched my video and found it "delightful".
As much as I criticize the show (and since you've watched my video essay, you know I have some Thoughts), I still love it so much. It rejuvenated my creative spirit back in 2017. The gifsets "Wickedly Queer" were the first thing I was able to create in over a year while still being in a massive depressive episode, and I've been creating fanwork for Wicked ever since.
I know, all things considered, your mom is just a small cog in the massive machine that has become Wicked, but you should thank her for me regardless. Let her know how much it means to me (and so many here in the fandom!). And wish her good luck with the movies! I'm sure pre-production is in full swing right now.
Also yes, I deleted and privatized a lot of my social media on purpose, so apologies your message is now going to be blasted all over Tumblr, oops. I do use discord, and have an open twitter for the occasional lurking, so if there was something you wanted to DM but couldn't fit in the tumblr character limit, you can reach me there! But either way, thank you so much for this. I shared your message with the cast of WQ and everybody's freaking out, haha!
And know that from this day forth, I will brag to anybody who likes Wicked that Winnie Holzman watched my fanmade Wicked vid and loved it. :')
(P.S. I hope, as a fellow queer, you tease your mom daily about how she accidentally made a show that has one of the biggest queer subtexts in musical history lol!)
