Musk hasn’t been confirmed by Congress. His “department” was never authorized by Congress. No one other than Trump has given Musk any authority. No one knows exactly who Musk’s goons are; they have not been vetted yet are handling some of the most sensitive personal information in the government. Not even Trump has the authority to stop your Social Security payments, let alone your Medicare or Medicaid or unemployment insurance or your food stamp benefits. Yet Musk and his goon squad assert they’re able to do so if they believe those payments are illegal. Musk boasted on his social media site X that he was “rapidly shutting down . . . illegal payments.” But who is Musk to decide that a payment is illegal?

Why the world's richest man is messing with your religion, your Social Security and everything else

I realize Democrats are out of power and can’t do much with legislation to stop this. 

I also realize this all happened in 3 days and appears to have caught them flatfooted (though I struggle to accept that nobody knew this was going to happen -- DC leaks like wet cheesecloth).

Okay. So what can they do?

Off the top of my head:

1. Members of Congress get the the bus and go to one of these agencies where Musk and his unvetted goons are installing rootkits, stealing our private information, and breaking the law. Tell the press they’re going to be there, and make a whole lot of noise. Force media to pay attention to this.

2. Stop everything in Congress. No unanimous consent, no approval of nominees, absolutely no help. Republicans uniformly opposed President Obama’s popular agenda, it shouldn’t be this difficult for Democrats to uniformly oppose Trump’s unpopular agenda.

3. File lawsuit after lawsuit after lawsuit. Force them into court to defend and justify their plainly illegal actions. Force them to defy judges. Force them to take this all the way to the corrupt SCOTUS.

4. Trump and Musk are weak little boys with fragile egos and this unholy alliance will eventually fracture. Speed that up by talking a whole lot about President Musk.

5. Tell Chuck Schumer to shut the fuck up forever for a minute because his communications team is maybe the worst I have ever seen in my adult life.

I don‘t know that any of these things will actually stop this attack on America from these fascist scumbags, but I am pretty confident it will force the national conversation to be about the coup that was accelerated this weekend, instead of the fucking Grammys.

omg no nonnie that’s not too specific at all — i totally get the bella x abel vibe, like model x musician is such an elite combo, the energy is absolutely there.

ellie did kind of have a thing with a model once. it wasn’t public or anything, just one of those undefined situationships that lasted a couple months too long. the girl was famous famous — vogue covers, ysl campaigns, met gala type of thing. they met at a party LA, and ellie thought she was hot, mysterious, the kind of girl who’d always have a lighter and never text back.

they’d hook up when they were in the same city, do the whole hotel room cigarettes and expensive wine thing. ellie would strum some unreleased songs on her guitar just to make her feel a little bit more special and she would say stuff like “you should take your shirt off more, your abs would sell albums.”

it got old fast.

deep down, ellie always knew she was shallow. hot, yeah, and fun to fuck, but there was no depth there. no soul. no real curiosity about her music, or her mind, or who she was outside the stage.

The rest of your trip runs smoothly. Thankfully, Satoru didn’t try to pull another stunt that made you want to gouge his eyes out. Ren is over the moon by going to the beach daily, going to new places to explore, trying new delicious food, and what matters the most, spending time with his mother and father. Sadly, his vacation can’t last forever.

Ren is gloomy the day before you’re supposed to leave, begging you and his father to stay a little longer. Satoru wants to say yes, and he would in a heartbeat if he didn’t have to work. As much as it pains him, he can’t give up everything to be a father. The next best solution is wait for Ren to leave you alone for a minute just to ask, 

“How about I extend your vacation for another week? I’ll leave, and Sayo probably won’t stay either. Just you and Ren.” And it’s tempting. You really want to say yes, but you also want to go back and resolve other issues. Plus, Ren is getting accustomed to getting whatever he wants, and you’re worried that he might become more like his father which is something that you definitely don’t want.

“We can come back some other time. It’s about time I go home.” You answer, and he nods in response. And as selfish as it sounds, Satoru is happy that you declined because he hates the idea of spending a week without seeing his son. It’s crazy to think that he lived a whole life before Ren, and the moment the little boy came into his life, Ren became everything to Satoru.

“Alright… Guess we have to make the most out of today so Ren cheers up.” Satoru says, glancing at his baby boy who’s plopped down on the couch, lamenting himself because he has to leave soon. Unluckily for everyone, it’s a rainy day outside. 

“There’s really not much we can do.” You tell him, and Satoru sighs. He wishes there was something he could do to make the sun come out, but no amount of money can control that. Satoru ponders, wondering what he can do to cheer his son up.

“I got it.” His eyes light up, and he runs upstairs. You furrow your brows in confusion before walking over to sit beside Ren. Your hand runs up and down his back, attempting to soothe him.

“I don’t wanna go home. I like it here.” He kicks his feet into the couch, and you make sure to keep your distance. Ren doesn’t want to go home, he likes it here. He’s with both of you the entire day, and you’re giving him all of your attention, how can he not like it? He knows the moment you go back, things will go back to normal. He’s gotten used to this, he doesn’t want to go back to normal.

“We have to, Ren. Your granny and grammy miss you, and I have to get back to my job.” You tell him, hoping that mentioning his grandmothers will make him reconsider. He loves them with all his heart, but truthfully, he prefers spending the entire day with you.

“I want to stay!” He yells, and a sigh escapes your lips as you pinch the bridge of your nose. He needs to let it out, you know he’s upset. But he shouldn’t be using his voice like that. 

“We’re not coming back if you keep throwing a tantrum.” You warn him before standing up and going to your bedroom. You don’t want to yell at him, so removing yourself from the situation is the best thing to do. Ren is still going to throw his tantrum, and you can only talk about the situation after. 

“I’m here!” You hear Satoru yell from the living room. You’re going to leave him to handle it, not making an effort to get up from bed. Until Satoru calls out your name, and you groan before getting up and walking over to the living room. You smile, seeing how Ren’s demeanor has changed, kneeling down on the floor in front of the coffee table, waiting for his father to open up the box that he brought down. “I remembered I had a board game here.”

“Is this the home you used to come to as a kid?” You ask, wondering why he has the board game with him. Satoru nods in response, sitting down beside the coffee table to open the old box.

 He used to play this game with his dad after getting home from the beach. It’s a game that’s more fun when played with more than two people, but Satoru didn’t really have that option. Regardless, he still had fun with his dad. Growing up, the only time that Satoru actually spent with his parents was the little vacations that they had yearly. He has very fond memories of this place, and of the board game that he opens.

“I haven’t played this in years, I have to read the rules again.” Satoru can’t help but laugh as he takes out every piece. He remembers every time being so excited to tell you about the game, begging his father to take the game back home or buy a new one for his house so he could play with you, but both of them always forgot. Luckily, he gets to play with you for the first time, and with your son as well.

“Take all the time you need.” You answer. Your eyes fall on your son, noting his somewhat puffy eyes. You ask him, “Are you better, Ren?”

“I am.” He nods. Pulling out the game completely changed his attitude. You can’t get too mad at him, he just got into this world. He’s just figuring things out, slowly learning that he can’t get everything even if his father wants to give him the world. 

Like father, like son. Both are sore losers. After losing to you, both have pouty faces and you swear Ren is on the verge of tears. Ren doesn’t nap anymore, but you decide that after all his crying, you’ll put him to bed. You cuddle with him until Ren falls asleep, and once you’re sure he’s dreaming, you get up from bed and leave your bedroom. 

Satoru’s in the living room, going through his phone. You don’t want to be alone with him so you hope that going to the kitchen and getting yourself a glass of water will give him the hint. He can go to his bedroom and scroll through his phone there. However, when he hears you, he says, “Come join me!”

You sigh, but you still walk over to the couch and take a seat on the other end. You pull out your phone, while he turns his off. It’s completely silent for a minute before he clears his throat and asks, “Are you still talking to Suguru?”

“Does it concern you?” You quickly reply. It’s not his business, especially when he doesn’t tell you what’s going on with him and Sayo.

“I want to know if he’s the possible stepfather to my son.” Satoru answers, and you furrow your eyebrows. You put your phone down and look at him before tilting your head to the side.

“What about you and Sayo? She’s the stepmother to my son and you have yet to tell me a thing about your relationship with her.” You respond, and he purses his lips together. You’re right, you’re absolutely right, but this isn’t about him. “I have no idea about your arrangement with her either… The one that she mentioned.”

“We don’t have an arrangement.” Satoru scratches the back of his neck, clearly nervous about the question. He’s not with her out of love, he’s made that clear. Yet… Why is he denying it?

“The same way Suguru and I have nothing going on.” You answer, hoping that’ll make him speak. Although you aren’t lying, you feel as if you have nothing going on with Suguru right now. You’re avoiding his calls and texts, you definitely don’t have a future together after this. “Look, Satoru. I just want the truth, an explanation to everything. Maybe some closure.” 

The man takes a deep breath, and you know that he’s about to tell you the truth. You can read him like a book. Satoru bites down his lip before confessing, “I didn’t marry her out of love but out of convenience.”

That’s certainly a start, although you aren’t too shocked. Maybe you are a bit surprised since you assumed they fell out of love instead of straight up thinking it was arranged. He takes another deep breath before he says,

“When my father died, my mom knew that I wouldn’t be trusted with his spot… Since I was considered too immature. Also for other business purposes, merging the company that Sayo’s family owns with our own.” He begins, and you feel a pain that you haven’t felt in years. A sudden pain that consumes your body in a matter of seconds, and it only gets worse with his words. “There was another promising candidate that would’ve handled the job while I finished my studies, and my mom was scared that we would lose control. I’ve never been too well liked by them.”

You look down at the couch, feeling your eyes getting glossy as he speaks. You thought you were over this, you really were. He continues speaking, “Getting married to Sayo was my mom’s great solution… Getting married to a woman with status would show how mature I was, ready to take the spot.”

“And… I agreed. We would get married and stay like that until I had my job. I could show that I was great at what I was entrusted to do, and then I would get a divorce.” He explains, and you exhale. Your nails dig into the fabric of your pants, trying your best not to cry… This is why he did it. Money. Money was more important to him than your relationship.

He changed his number and completely blocked you out of his life. He treated you like he always did when you weren’t convenient to him. With contempt and superiority. As he speaks, you realize that you will never manage to be together without some kind of issue.

“I– I’m sorry.” He says, as his hand goes to your hand, but you jerk it out. It’s no surprise that he didn’t want to tell you, he’s right for not telling you. You almost would’ve preferred to hear that he left you because of love for someone else. 

You try not to let a single tear slip even though your heart breaks again. You would’ve left anything and everything behind for him, yet he didn’t even think twice before leaving you. And Satoru feels speechless as you’re on the verge of tears. He tells you, “It was a dumb decision, and given the option again, I would leave everything behind for you and for Ren.”

You stand up from the couch. You suddenly feel suffocated in the room. He wouldn’t choose you if he had the option, he’s only do it for Ren, and that realization makes it hard for you to breathe. But you’re glad he did it. It wasn’t his first time, just this time you realized you would never be his first option.

“No, you made the right decision.” You try to smile at him, attempting to hide the fact that tears are streaming down your cheeks. “Thank you for picking right.”

"bil, for the last time," I sighed heavily, "im not going to be able to make it. I'll make it up to you, I promise."

billie whined on the other end of the phone, "it's not the same, ma."

I continued packing my suitcase. "I know, babe, but you know I have a huge meeting that I can not miss."

she grumbled, "I know." I heard water running and movement. "Wish me luck." she muttered as she began to brush her teeth.

"i'll be manifesting for you," i joke, walking to the bathroom to prepare my toiletries. "You're going to win the grammy." i reassure her.

i could hear her take a deep breath and sigh. "Yeah, hopefully. i think i should go to bed, big day tomorrow." she cheesed.

"Alright," i say dramatically. "If you have to."

she made a kiss noise, "i love ya."

"i love you too. Text me when you're up." i kissed her back before she hung up.

i checked the time on my phone, silently thanking billie for hanging up at the perfect time. i zipped up my suitcase and threw on my slides before walking out of the house. i double-checked to make sure the door was walked before i drove off towards the airport.

the cool winter breeze caught me off guard as i stepped out of my warm car. i dreaded all of the airport security traffic. it took me forever to get through everything, but i had finally made it on the flight that would take me to surprise billie.

i found out 3 hours before she called me that the meeting was canceled, and i decided i was going to surprise her. i booked the fastest flight and sound one that was perfect. i was surprised it was still available.

i sat peacefully on the plane, drinking Sprite and eating the iconic honey roasted peanuts. of course, i spent the whole time worrying over billies' reactions. would she be mad that i lied to her? i pondered back and forth, defending each argument for yes and no over in my mind.

the loud, robotic sounding woman over the speakers awoke me from my sleep. i rushed to get off the plane as i only had 2 hours to make it in time to see billie. i went to the nearest airport restroom and changed into my stunning dress that i had been saving for a really special occasion. it was a long, ruby red silk slip dress. it had a slit in the right legs and was long enough to trail behind me. i had straightened my hair before i left, and it had managed to stay intact. i did quick but elegant makeup and called my Uber.

the wait for the Uber was spent getting cat called by older men while waiting for billie to text me back.

me: How's your morning going, babe? i miss you

billie ❤️: it's going good, just doing hair and make up

billie ❤️: you?

billie ❤️: i miss you sm mama

me: just been thinking about you

billie: i gotta go get dressed, text you after ❤️

me: sounds goood

the Uber arrived and took me to my hotel room, which i had to rush to get ready since i was running late.

i basically threw on the dress that complimented hers, so i had enough time for makeup. luckly, i didn't like to do heavy makeup.

whenever i was finally done, billie texted me.

billie ❤️: god everything reminds me of how much i wish you could be here.

billie ❤️: theres an extra seat at the table for some reason

me: hm thats weird, dont worry, though i have the live video pulled up right now

i lied as i climbed into the Uber. i told the man my destination, and he began driving. butterflies were building up, and i couldn't wait to see her reaction.

i made it right in time, making it in time for the music related awards. i chatted with Lizzie Grant, one of my favorite music artists, as i waited for billie to leave the table so i could sneak in.

whenever they finally announced the first award for "what was i made for?" she got up and walked onto the stage.

i slid into my seat quietly, waving to finneas and claudia, who were in on the surprise.

i admired billie on stage. i was so proud of her. I couldn't contain it. a stupid smile spread on my face as i saw her bright smile on stage.

"Thank you so much. i really couldn't have done it without y/n and finneas. i love you too, and im so sorry you couldn't be here, baby." she blew a kiss to the camera, which i knew there'd be edits of later on.

she walked back, thanking all the people who congratulated her as she walked by.

she was only a few feet away whenever she made eye contact with me. her face lit up, and her smile grew. she ran towards me, pulling me out of my chair and capturing me in a tight hug. she peppered my face in kisses before finally meeting my lips. she held her lips on mine, and i didn't want her to pull away.

"You actually made it!" she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around my waist.

"How could i miss it?! my meeting got rescheduled, but i was planning on surprising you anyway. so everything worked out in the end." i explained.

"When did you get here?" she asked, her smile never fading.

"literally 2 and a half hours ago." i laughed, my arms snaking around her neck. "im so proud of you, bil."

"Thank you, mama." she pecked my lips once more, "i love you."

"i love you more." i smiled, "youre amazing. you deserve this so much."

billie went on to win another grammy. needless to say, we celebrated a lot that night.

Summary: Aurora reflects on her past relationship struggles while she still continues to write new music

“I feel like I should use this photo. The baby blue dress really makes my lip color stand out.” Aurora mindlessly said while spinning around in her studio chair.

“No, you definitely need to use the dark blue one. It’s aesthetically pleasing to look at it. See.” Sydney held up the two photo options while Taylor and Aurora analyzed them deeply. 

“Dark blue”

“No, baby blue. Look at how it makes her face look. It’s obviously better”

“Listen to me, dark blue”

No, you’re not listening to me-”

“Guy’s stop, I actually need help. This is just making it worse. I need this album to be huge so everything needs to be perfect.” Aurora had enough, everything over the past few months had put her over the edge. While writing her album emails i can’t send fwd: Aurora met her now ex boyfriend, Paul Mescal. The two were together from spring of 2022 to spring of 2023. It was easy to say, Midnights was Aurora’s breakup album. Only to make it worse, the entire breakup was public. There were hundreds of photos of Prince and Mescal fighting on the streets of L.A., even more of Aurora leaving restaurants teary-eyed and makeup half gone. The paparazzi also didn’t mind hunting her down while she would go on walks right after their split. Moral of the story, Aurora knew she couldn’t stay in L.A. forever. It had become too painful.

"Hellloooo, what's wrong with you. We were just having fun" Aurora just realized that both of her friends were staring at her oddly and Sydney was sitting on the armrest of her chair.

“I don’t know, I need everything to be perfect. I feel like I haven't been able to enjoy this writing process for my next album.” Aurora couldn’t help but remember what happened last time she released an album. “I’m afraid people will react the same way they did with Midnights. I put my entire heart into that album and all people could see was him.”

“I know how badly that affected you, but people are always going to have something to say. Aurora, you were nominated for a Grammy last year. I don’t care what anyone says, you write amazing songs with deep emotion. That’s what any artist does.” Taylor always knew what to say when Aurora couldn’t get out of her head. Taylor was right, Aurora has been nominated for not only one but two Grammy awards last year. Aurora was nominated for Album of the Year for Midnights and Song of the Year for “Anti-Hero.” 

The feeling when Aurora won her first Grammy for Album of the year was something she won’t forget. While her speech was absolutely terrible, she stood up on the stage blabbering trying not to cry. She knew she needed this feeling again; this was the goal with her next album.

“Soooo, did you guys wanna hear the single?” Aurora smirked up at her two friends. They all burst out laughing, the tension in the air broke like ice. “Okay okay okay, move, I’ll play it but you have to swear you won’t tell my manager I did. He would kill me. I won’t even play it for him yet.” Aurora said while giggling and moving over to the control set. She put on a headset to hear her first single loud and clear. Sydney and Taylor were sitting right behind her on the couch waiting patiently, kind of.  

“Okay, be honest. If it’s not single material you have to tell me. Especially you Taylor.” Aurora looked over her shoulder. Inside every part of her body was nervous. This was her entire life right her put into a 3 minute single that people would listen to on the poolside. 

“Yes we get it. Now fucking push play or I’m gonna kill you” Sydney kicked her legs up resting them on the table in front of her. These three girls had been friends since they met at a party two summers ago. The three of them had been inseparable since then, always seen on red carpets together. 

“Just do it, what’s the worst thing to happen? They don’t enjoy the song.” 

“Okay. Here’s my first single. You’re listening to the hit of the summer, Espresso.”

Jungkook was engrossed in a video game, Jin was flipping through a recipe book, and Taehyung was scrolling through his phone. But Yoongi? Yoongi sat in the corner of the couch, his laptop perched on his knees. His headphones were plugged in, and a faint smile tugged at his lips as he watched a performance for what had to be the fiftieth time.

The screen glowed with the sight of you—Y/N, the internationally acclaimed idol whose every move on stage sent waves through the industry. Tonight’s video was of your recent comeback stage, a performance filled with power and grace. Yoongi couldn’t help but admire the way you commanded the crowd, how every note you sang seemed to come straight from your soul.

“Hyung, seriously?” Jungkook said, craning his neck to peek at the screen. “That’s the fourth time this week.”

Yoongi hastily slammed his laptop shut, the tips of his ears turning red. “What are you talking about?”

“Don’t act coy,” Jin chimed in, abandoning his book to join the fun. “You’ve been obsessing over her ever since her debut. Just admit you’re her biggest fan.”

The others joined in, laughing and poking fun at Yoongi. Even Namjoon, who usually kept to himself, smirked. “Hyung, maybe you should just shoot your shot. You’ve got nothing to lose, right?”

Yoongi scoffed, waving them off, but the blush on his cheeks deepened.

Months later, BTS attended the Grammy Awards, where they were up for multiple nominations. The group was in high spirits as they walked the red carpet and faced a flurry of interviews. One interviewer leaned in with a mischievous grin.

“So, Yoongi-ssi,” she began, “the fans have noticed you’ve been watching a certain someone’s videos a lot lately. Care to share who your current favorite artist is?”

The members exchanged glances, grinning like hyenas. Taehyung nudged Yoongi with his elbow, and Jungkook let out an exaggerated cough.

“Uh…” Yoongi hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck. “Well, I think Y/N is incredibly talented. She works really hard, and it shows in everything she does.”

The interviewer’s eyes lit up. “Oh, really? Any chance we’ll see a collaboration in the future?”

Yoongi chuckled nervously. “Maybe. If she’s interested.”

Backstage, the teasing began immediately. “You practically confessed on live television!” Jimin exclaimed, clutching his sides.

“I didn’t confess,” Yoongi grumbled, though the small smile on his face said otherwise.

The first time you met was during a music show. BTS and your group had been scheduled to perform, and the backstage area buzzed with activity. Yoongi was usually the calmest member in any situation, but when you walked into the green room, he froze.

“Hyung, don’t just sit there,” Jungkook whispered, nudging him forward.

You approached with a warm smile, bowing politely. “Annyeonghaseyo, Min Yoongi-ssi. It’s an honor to meet you. I’m a big fan of your work.”

Yoongi stood up, bowing deeply. “Annyeonghaseyo, Y/N-ssi. The honor’s mine. I really admire what you do.”

The other members watched from the sidelines, trying not to burst out laughing at how uncharacteristically shy Yoongi was being.

“You should’ve seen his face when he saw your performance,” Jin added cheekily. “He couldn’t stop smiling.”

“Hyung!” Yoongi hissed, glaring at Jin, but you only laughed, your eyes sparkling.

During an award show later that year, you performed your latest hit, and Yoongi was in the audience. As always, his gaze was glued to the stage, his gummy smile making a rare and endearing appearance. The camera panned to him at just the right moment, and fans went wild when the clip surfaced online.

The MC couldn’t resist bringing it up later. “Yoongi-ssi, you seemed to enjoy Y/N’s performance. Care to share your thoughts?”

Yoongi’s face turned red as the audience roared with laughter. “She’s… very talented,” he managed, his voice barely audible over the teasing remarks from his members.

Years passed, and BTS continued to dominate the global music scene. But amidst their packed schedules, Yoongi and Y/N’s paths crossed more and more frequently. What started as admiration blossomed into friendship, and eventually, something more.

The world erupted in excitement when news broke that the two of you were dating. Fans were overjoyed, and your relationship quickly became one of the most talked-about topics in the industry. The Grammy Awards had that kind of energy, the kind where everything felt bigger than life. You should’ve been focused on that, on celebrating the night with the person sitting next to you.

But every now and then, you felt it. A glance. A weight.

Gracie was looking at you again.

You hadn’t seen her in over a year. Not in person, anyway. Just through a screen, in interviews, onstage, in moments where you weren’t even trying to look but somehow ended up staring too long.

And now, here she was. Close enough to hear her laugh, to catch the way she kept tucking her hair behind her ear like she always did when she was nervous.

But that wasn’t your concern anymore.

“Baby, you okay?”

You turned to the woman next to you, Sabrina. She was grinning, eyes sparkling under the stage lights, fingers laced through yours like she’d been holding them for years. The warmth of her hand pulled you back to reality, away from old ghosts.

“Yeah,” you said, squeezing her hand. “Just taking it all in.”

She smiled, tilting her head slightly. “It’s crazy, right? First Grammys together.”

First everything together.

Sabrina wasn’t Gracie. She was warm where Gracie had been distant. Steady where Gracie had been uncertain. With her, there was no tiptoeing around feelings, no second-guessing if she’d stay or if she was already halfway out the door.

You didn’t have to chase her.

Sabrina leaned in, whispering something teasing about Jack Antonoff’s speech, and you laughed. But when your eyes flicked up, just for a second, they met Gracie’s.

She looked away immediately, shifting in her seat, pretending to focus on the stage.

You swallowed, focusing back on Sabrina.

Later, after the event, the chaos spilled into afterparties, flashing cameras, and hotel lobbies filled with people dressed in designer. But somehow, between all of it, you ended up alone in a quiet balcony of the building.

Until it started pouring rain.

It drummed against the pavement, sliding down the glass windows of the hotel ground where you had been standing just moments ago. You weren’t sure why you walked out well maybe just to clear your head, maybe to breathe, maybe because something in you knew she would follow.

And she did.

Gracie stood a few feet away, her dress clinging to her frame, drenched from the downpour. Her hair was plastered against her skin, her mascara smudging just slightly beneath her eyes. But it wasn’t the rain that made her look like this.

It was you.

You felt it.

Neither of you spoke at first. It was almost funny, the way words used to come so easily, and now silence weighed heavier than anything.

Gracie had been stealing glances all night. Even when she pretended she wasn’t, you knew. You knew because there was a time when she looked at you like that every day, like she was memorizing you, like she thought you were hers forever.

But you weren’t. Not anymore.

And yet, here you were, standing—neither of you moving.

She exhaled sharply, her shoulders shaking. “I—” She stopped, eyes shutting briefly before opening again, desperate and searching. “I didn’t think it’d be this hard."

You swallowed, running a hand through your hair. “Then why are you here, Gracie?”

She let out a breath that sounded too much like a sob. “Because I can’t stand it. Seeing you. Seeing her. Knowing that I—” Her voice broke, and she sucked in a shaky breath. “Knowing that I ruined us.”

Your jaw clenched, emotions twisting too tightly inside you. “We weren’t supposed to wait forever.”

“I know.” Her voice was raw, cracking at the edges. “But I—God, I was scared. I thought if I left, I’d figure myself out and we’d find our way back. I thought there would always be an us to come back to.”

Your chest ached, because you knew. You had waited for her. In ways you didn’t even realize until you finally stopped. Until Sabrina walked into your life and reminded you what it was like to be loved without hesitation.

Gracie stepped closer, eyes searching yours. “But you still think about it, don’t you?” Her voice was quiet, almost pleading. “About us.”

The crowd blurred everything around you, made the world feel smaller. Just you and her and the weight of a love that was almost enough.

“I think about what we were,” you admitted, voice softer now. “But I don’t think about us anymore.”

Gracie’s breath hitched, her lips parting slightly. She shook her head, a weak, broken sound escaping her throat. “I don’t believe that.”

You swallowed hard, fingers twitching at your sides. “You have to.”

Her face crumbled.

For a second, she almost reached for you. Almost closed the space between you like she used to, like she thought you’d still catch her.

But you didn’t.

Because if you did, you wouldn’t let go.

And you had to.

The rain kept falling. The city lights flickered behind her, blurred and distant, and maybe in another life, in another time, you would’ve stayed here with her. Would’ve pulled her close, let the rain mix with the tears, let yourself believe in a love that had already slipped through your fingers.

But not this time.

You exhaled, stepping back. Just enough. Just so she knew.

She blinked up at you, rain dripping from her lashes, her lips trembling as she took it in.

And then, finally, she nodded.

“I loved you,” she whispered.

You felt it like a punch to the gut.

“I know,” you murmured. “But we’re not those people anymore.”

A shaky breath. A broken smile. A final glance.

And then, she turned away.

You watched as she walked back into the hotel, disappearing through the glass doors, leaving only the ghost of what could’ve been.

You know, Kendrick receiving the grammys is well deserved. However, a part of me worries about him. On GNX, specifically in 'Wacced out Murals' and 'Reincarnated', Kendrick took his beef with Drake seriously. He was genuinely worried that he and/or his loved ones might be killed. Obviously for us as spectators, it's easy to see this stuff as just music. But the often misunderstood culture this music comes from, while beautiful and inspiring, can become dangerous real quick. It's happened before with Tupac and Biggie.

So naturally Kendrick wasn't going to play around. In a way, he's almost lucky Drake is a poser. Drake may have some dangerous connections or knows someone with dangerous connections given how long he's been in the industry. Thankfully, aside from Drake's bodyguard getting injured, there were no casualties in this beef aside from Drake's reputation and some of Kendrick's friendships.

I'll be honest, the night Meet the Grahams dropped, I was terrified. I saw people joking around about how the track itself scared them. Me, I was scared something bad was going to happen to Kendrick. Either Drake or a benefactor puts out a hit on him. I was so stressed I could barely sleep, scared I'd wake up to tragic knews. Some people joked about how Drake would have to kill Kendrick after this, not realizing that there was a non zero percent chance that could have happened.

And it's clear in GNX that Kendrick was slightly worried as well. 'Reincarnated' highlights that the beef really did mess with him psychology. Not because of anything Drake did but because of the stuff he himself did. Given what we know about Kendrick's character, a dedicated religious father who seeks to uplift his community through song, this beef made him realize some things about himself he never knew.

I personally think Kendrick regrets writing Meet the Grahams. While he may still agree with everything he said, he probably feels ashamed that he let the his emotions get the better of him. Drake slandering his family and childhood friend ignighted a hatered in him he truely didn't realize he was capable of. There is no denying that the song will forever impact not just Drake but his family too, especially Adonis. He might think he took things a step too far.

After cooling off, he likely wrote Not Like Us as a pallet cleanser. Just to deescalate the beef a little. And because it was released soon after the ominous track that is Meet the Grahams, the lighter track hit harder.

Man I feel like I'm just rambling now, point is that I hope Kendrick is doing okay mentally. He portrays himself as tough and unbothered on the outside, likely a coping mechanism he developed while growing up in Compton. But his music proves that he has a big heart and is extremely passionate about hip-hop. I hope he doesn't feel like he just put on some big spectacle for outsider to laugh and clap at before returning to the status quo. He's bringing hip-hop back to it's more authentic roots. It won't happen in a day, but it's a step in the right direction for the genre. And it was going to happen with or without him receiving awards.
