“Home safe, Kate Bishop.”

So back in Chapter 3 of @the0fi’s lovely Kate Bishop/Yelena Belova fic Red Post-Its (which I read because 1) they’re a fantastic writer and 2) they said you could see a bit of Hosie in there, and, yeah, as promised 👍) there’s a scene involving Kate, Kamala, and Yelena, where Kate hopes certain events don’t end up in one of Kamala’s fanfics. And, well, we never got to see if they did (which I suppose means they didn’t), but my mind wouldn’t let go (never mind I’ve only seen one of these characters!). So a few days ago it gave birth to a tiny little fanfic for another fanfic involving writing fanfic! Fics all the way down! Ficception!

Kamala Khan played those words over and over on her own journey home. She and Kate had planted a trap for a bunch of thugs in a warehouse, and things didn’t go quite according to plan. Nothing they couldn’t handle, really, but a Mysterious Stranger suddenly appeared and provided an unexpected assist…beat the crap out of all of the thugs near Kate. (Well, all but one, who’d managed to knock Kate to the ground.) And then the stranger helped Kate up and uttered those four words before disappearing into the night. “Home safe, Kate Bishop.”

The voice was steady, belying any emotion, but there was something about it…the tone? the cadence?…that made Kamala sure there was more to it. It was accented, Slavic…probably Russian, maybe from Brighton Beach? And definitely female.

Kate had never mentioned a partner. Or a trained friend, for that matter…besides Clint. And this Mysterious Stranger…Mysterious Friend…was definitely too professional to be one of the LARPers. Was she a spy? The newest Marvel’s mind continued to spin, considering the possibilities…this was even better than her fanfiction!

There was definitely an undercurrent of not just concern, but tenderness, in the woman’s voice, Kamala was sure of it. Maybe it was a gut feeling? But she knew she wasn’t imagining it, playing those sounds over in her head again.

When she’d asked Kate, “Who was that?!” the CEO-by-day, Hawkeye-by-night had answered “A friend,” but the smile that took over her face told a different story.

Was Mysterious Friend Kate’s…girlfriend?

Kate’s girlfriend, an international agent, a foreign spy?

That would be one reason for Kate never to mention the woman to Kamala. Not that she thought Kate was doing anything wrong; she was sure the new Hawkeye had thoroughly vetted Mysterious Friend. And not that Kate was in any way obligated to reveal her private personal life, either; they were teammates, not sisters.

The Pakistani-American teen’s imagination began to run wild. Maybe the two met when Mysterious Friend dropped in to help Kate in a fight in a warehouse, not unlike tonight. Ever since then, they’d been passing each other in the city in the way that only spies do. Secret rendezvous in coffee shops, where they stole longing glances at each other across the room, leaving love letters taped to the undersides of their respective tables. Passing each other on the subway, pressed against the windows, cars going in opposite directions. Perhaps one time they both found themselves in a crowded elevator, slowly moving towards each other as the occupants got in and out on various floors; eventually, they were pushed together, shoulder-to-shoulder, in the back, the tips of their fingers touching. And watching over Kate, silently, in the shadows, as she patrolled, perhaps taking out unseen threats to her girlfriend with a thrown knife, never making her presence known. Except Kate would know. She would feel Mysterious Friend’s love radiating through the city, helping to keep her safe.

When she arrived home, Kamala rushed to her room and opened her laptop, starting a new fic. This was too good not to write. She began to type.

“Home safe, Kate Bishop.” Hawkeye had just taken out a nest of petty crooks when a knife-throwing mysterious stranger had emerged from the darkness. The only prior indication of the stranger’s presence had come moments before, when the glint of steel in the moonlight caught a knife in mid-air, a knife that had then embedded itself in the right gastrocnemius of one final crook. He was either trying to escape or to get the jump on the dark-haired heroine, whose back was to the man. Whichever was the case, it didn’t matter to the stranger. Kate Bishop whirled around upon hearing the crook scream in agony and then crumple to the ground. She had an arrow nocked, drawn, and aimed in the direction from which the knife had come, even though she had neither seen nor heard it. When Hawkeye caught sight of the stealth suit emerging from the darkness, she lowered her weapon—and an enormous smile spread across her face. “Thanks,” she greeted the mystery figure softly, the smile being joined by a blush spreading across her cheeks. If the Mysterious Stranger had acknowledged the gratitude, it was imperceptible. The figure then spoke a single line of heavily-accented English, “Home safe, Kate Bishop.” She—for there was no doubt the voice was feminine—then melted back into the shadows whence she had come, leaving Kate Bishop alone with the neutralized crooks. Kate Bishop whose face was hot, red, and giddy. Kate Bishop whose heart was beating rapidly, but not from adrenaline nor from danger. Kate Bishop, whose fingers traced her lips as she remembered the feeling of another set of lips pressed against them. Kate Bishop who, in that moment, was no longer a deadly archer, but instead a besotted schoolgirl. “Home safe, Kate Bishop.” The words echoed in her head as she restrained the incapacitated crooks for the authorities. “Home safe, Kate Bishop.” They followed along with her as she moved through the city. “Home safe, Kate Bishop.” They were not a request nor an order. “Home safe, Kate Bishop.” They were a promise. “Home safe, Kate Bishop.”

i watched mamma mia for the first time and I feel like you could do a lot with a mamma mia hosie au except like, I feel like it'd have to be an omegaverse au because of the whole sophie trying to figure out who's her dad storyline

Hope would be Sam and Josie would be Donna

but also i feel like subverting omegaverse expectations so Hope would still be an Alpha but Josie would be a Beta because we don't see a lot of other omegaverse pairings other than Alpha/Omega and I think it'd be neat for an Alpha/Beta pairing ya know? But also I feel like the Omegaverse aspect of this would be more of a background/after thought. Or maybe it won't who knows, really depends on how it's implemented I suppose

Bill and Harry would probably be... see I'm stumped between either Jade and Penelope, or Landon and Penelope but who knows we can figure that out later that's a future Rika problem to deal with if I ever want to deal with it

as for the kid... I'm stumped here. because if I used a pre-existing hosie fankid, i'd just feel bad for the OTHER fankids that are left behind (the gUILT IS REAL) like, I feel like Lana would be an automatic no because she looks too similar to Hope and that would be too obvious and I'd like to keep that plot be the same in the movie of "I think it's cool that the kid has a little bit of all of us in them" cuz no legit that was really frickin wholesome and sweet so let's keep that in

Hayley or Jay would probably work. But again, that just brings me back to me feeling bad about having to leave one of them behind cuz they're twins ya know?

Leo... Maybe could work. But I also feel like it probably won't work considering his backstory I created but you know what who knows.

And same goes for my 2nd iteration of hosie fankids. Eli or Auggie are twins I don't wanna separate them. Also they'd have the same issues as Lana as Eli looks more like Hope and Auggie's hair is more reddish so it'd be a dead giveaway. Although idk maybe Eli wouldn't be too bad of an option but his personality definitely would not fit and idk how it would work. Maybe it could with some planning but idk

but i also don't know if I want to create a whole new fankid JUST for this au. Maybe I should just buck up and use one of the preexisting ones.

and Josie's friends would ofc be Lizzie and MG I don't think there's any other way to go than that probably. As for their own romance subplots I'm not entirely sure if I want them to be together already or have their own separate romance. that's also an issue for future Rika if future Rika ever decides to revisit this at all.

Choujin X, Chapter 34 Part 4 Thoughts.

A lot happened and not only was this chapter the climactic end of a major arc, it also seems to be a major turning point in the story especially in regards to Tokio's character and what is coming next for him. Thoughts and predictions underneath the cut.

1. The Other Brother

Perhaps the biggest reveal this chapter was the face behind the Noh Mask, and as usual for Ishida he actually foreshadowed this reveal long in advance. Now let's play everyone's favorite game of spot the foreshadowing. It started with Batista taking a special interest in Azama when he was previously targeting Tokio as the Beast Choujin.

A few chapters later Sendak mentions his reasons for taking an interest in Azama and even councilling him about his habit of losing control and his emotional outbursts is because he resembles his younger brother who fell away from him.

One more thing of note before moving on, while several key characters constantly note how much potential that Tokio has as the beast Choujin, and take an interest in him as someone who has the potential to change the world, it's mentioned over and over again that Azama's powers despite taking a long time to awaken and being hard for him to control aren't really anything special.

After being shown taken an interest in him a the end of Azama and Tokio's fight, Batista then goes out of his way once again to spare Azama and bring him along despite the fact he knows that his choujin ability doesn't really stand out in any way.

He even goes out of his way to ask for the power of the iron choujin and Ely, and is fine with only getting Azama. Whether he was going to just take Azama's powers from him with what his usual method seems to be (my guess is sewing other people's body parts onto himself considering his face and arm) or actually try to mentor Azama is unknown but he's expressed the same interest in him over and over again other characters have not.

We know nothing of Sendak and Batista's conflict as brothers, however, there is a ton of foreshadowing for the rift that's already begun to form between Azama and Tokio growing wider as the story progresses Just from the nature of the difference between Hosi and Sendak's powers, Sendak's choujin ability seems to be at the peak of strength a Choujin can have. Whereas, Batista as the "chimera" either doesn't have a choujin ability of his own and gains his powers by stealing the body parts of others and grafting them to him, or his power wasn't strong enough to ever face Sendak's which made him resort to alternative means. Or a third option his Choujin ability only works by gaining the powers from body parts of other people he grafts onto himself, he has no natural ability of his own just stolen ones.

This is also the center of the conflict between Azama and Tokio. Tokio is blessed with insane and unique power, and a potential that has everyone targetting him, and he doesn't want it, and doesn't want to decide how to use it either.

From the moment their powers awakened, Azama who was used to practically being the "hero" of their friendship got slotted into a secondary position. At first Azama didn't experience any change at all and thought he remained a normal person whereas Tokio gained powers and saved him.

Then, even after Azama's powers finally awaken, not only do people constantly comment on how his powers are no good if he loses control of them with emotional outbursts and hurts people which is directly against his self image and ideal of using his powers to help people, but he also despite finally awakening as a choujin is shown time and time again his potential is way less than Tokio's, and everyone is interested in Tokio as some kind of chosen one as he's passed aside.

If the relationship between Azama and Tokio is set to parallel Sandek and Batista then they probably suffered from a similiar fallout, Batista's older brother was one of the strongest choujin in a generation, whereas Batista's chosen method of getting strong was done most likely by stealing from others.

2. The Parting of Ways

The second biggest game-changer this chapter is Tokio's announcement that he is dropping out of school. Considering Azama, Ely and Tokio all attend school together this also probably means that Tokio's reason for quitting is to seperate himself from both of them so he can devote all of himself full time to being a Choujin.

Ishida has a tendency to reuse ideas from his previous works, and Tokio in many ways parallels Kaneki Ken, both of them being reluctant chosen ones, who were granted a great power mostly by mistake. This moment parallels Kaneki's decision at the end of the Aogiri arc in the original Tokyo Ghoul after being kidnapped and seeing Anteiku go to great lengths to try to bring him back, making the decision to not go home with them and instead go off on his own to try to get stronger. He even says it overlooking a body of water similiarly to Tokio.

There's not just the Tokyo Ghoul parallel however, Tokio's seperation from Azama and Ely is set up within the story itself. Number one, the whole island arc in general has the setup of a shonen training arc with a twist. In regular shonen manga the trio of Azama, Ely and Tokio would train together, get stronger and then have their friendship solidified. Not only does none of the training any of the characters do pay off (they all just get captured anyway), but the already rocky friendship of Azama and Tokio seems like it's heading towards a seperation rather than bringing them closer together the island arc has even further driven them apart.

Just when they were getting along and both training together as Choujin, Tokio's premonition that Azama would blame him for the destruction of Yamato, and their argument on whether or not Tokio should accept the divine mark only showed the issues of their friendship are still there despite their temporary truce.

Not only that, but Tokio's newfound resolve to be strong enough to stop Azama if he goes out of control again was incredibly shaky to begin with. Almost immediately, an outsider is able to point out the flaw in his logic. That if he ties himself to Azama like that his self esteem isn't going to get any better, and he should find his own reason to fight rather than using someone else as an excuse.

On top of that Tokio is referred to as being shackled to Azama, because of his habit of constantly comparing himself to others, and wanting to be more like others rather than developing himself. His big moment of character development in this arc however comes from choosing to fly. Something he cannot do if he is shackled as flight = freedom.

I did a previous meta on how Tokio's indecisiveness is a sign that unlike the two other members of his group, Ely and Azama who have pretty opposite ideals but have their motivations figured out, Tokio is someone who could go either way on Ely's path, or on Azama's.

In an interesting twist Tokio has taken a third option, rather than becoming closer to Ely or Azama he has made the decision to separate himself from both of them (or at least I'm guessing that is what's going to happen next). If you consider the traumatic series of events Tokio has just been through, this decision makes sense from his perspective. To begin with this training arc was a total loss for all of them, Ely, Azama and Tokio make significant breakthroughs in developing their abilities but it doesn't matter they still get their asses kicked hard.

Tokio is made helpless, kidnapped and dragged into an unsafe environment. Not only that he's reminded how because of his helplessness he couldn't do anything to help Azama or Ely who were kidnapped alongside him. He also learns right away that due to being the beast Choujin, he was the reason the entire island was targetted and Ely and Azama were put in danger. You know just to sprinkle some extra guilt and self-blame on top of the cake.

Tokio reaches a pretty major breakthrough where he realizes instead of worrying about everything, he has to just take a leap of faith and fly (This is a spiderverse reference btw) only to hear the prophecy of the Beast Choujin and to have all of this responsibility and destiny suddenly shunted onto his shoulders and his response is just to revert to his previous indecisiveness.

Not only does his indecision cause all of his friends to get attacked once more, but even going berserk and using his choujin power to the absolute limit of his abilities, Tokio is completely useless in the fight once more.

Tokio witnesses his friends being crushed to death, goes berserk, and it barely makes a difference in the fight. Yes, he is rescued by Sandek shortly afterwards, but Sandeks rescue reminds Tokio that despite being a chosen and being told by the people around him of his potential just how far he actually has to go in terms of mastering his power. He's shown strength on a completely different level from him.

When he is finally rescued too, he is told to sit on a beach and wait, while a bloody battle is fought right in front of him, and his rescue comes at the expense of several choujin offering their lives.

All the while Azama, Ely and Tokio are told to sit and wait because they'd be no help in the fight. Considering all of these circumstances, it's understandable that not only would Tokio blame himself for a lot of this by being so weak and indecisive of a person he needed to be rescued in the first place instead of being able to fight his way out of that situation, but he'd also think the only way to get stronger was to go off on his own and prove he could get stronger without relying on others. To become the kind of person who wouldn't need to be rescued so this kind of situation would never repeat itself again.

If you consider the survivor's guilt associated from surviving a long battle where you were mostly helpless, and even the cause of the battle needing to be fought in the first place, it would make sense Tokio would blame himself and think the only way to move forward is to be strong on his own. Which is why we see at the end of this arc, our three types of heroes, on three different paths, are probably going to drift even further away from each other rather than coming together.

Laszlo & Nadja: (idk their ship name lol) married and endlessly horny and in love with each other, pls don’t ever change this relationship

Vauseman: Dated in the past and their whole love affair is a huge part of the show. They part ways in the end but Piper bucks up and moves to Ohio just to be with Alex so still canon and hopefully real married when Alex gets out

Janason: Had an on and off relationship due to Jason being rebooted hundreds of times but Janet always retained feelings for him. They eventually find each other again through the course of the series and finally get to spend endless bearimies together til Jason walked through the door 😭 Still in love til the end but it’s so sweet and sad

Harlivy: Literally is canon in the comics, was heavily implied since the 90s, also implied in other assorted animated medias, kinda only noticed as “canon” recently cause of the HQS (which I love) but it’s unfortunate people wouldn’t believe me till that episode and season came out. In media where they’re not together though they were either exes or I choose to believe they have a past together :)

BBRae: Depends on the universe whether they’re together or not but for the most part they’re dating or have mutal crushes on each other. If not, I choose to ship in any universe lol

Jori: Bade was the main ship throughout the run but if they were ever to reboot it, Jori would have to be canon now. Cause as we all rewatch it, we understand it was Jori all along.

Gelphie: Similar to Jori in we all thought it was the straight ship but you rewatch it and think, wait a minute..these bitches gay. Ofc you’re wrong but in my HEAD they ran off together

Hizzie: For a hot second, I legit thought these two were gonna be canon. I know it’s Hosie forever but like after Kaylee left, the development between these two took a weird turn and Lizzie kept rejecting MG and going to Hope. Plus their already established frenemy relationship and past episode developments focused on their friendship like..why didn’t this happen?

Amedot: I thought this was gonna happen back in 2016/17 because of weird subtext we got but that was probably just wishful thinking. My thoughts on it were “I know nothing is going to happen but I think there’s a less than 1% chance for something, or at least for subtext”. But then Lapidot took over the fandom so I was wrong lol. Ofc neither ship actually became canon and Peri was revealed to be an intended aro/ace, which slowed down some shipping but not all of it ofc. Side note: the artist who “confirmed” ace/aro peri also ships amedot sooo.. I guess you’re good in that aspect? Anyways, now I do still ship it but mostly nostalgically and I think prime 2016 amedot was the best.

Cassunzel: I like this purely hypothetically but I do think they had a canon crush on each other in the show which is gone by the ending but it’s only real in my heart ❤️

Reiusa: Literally never gonna happen but I like the what if of them together in the future and co-parenting Chibiusa while still giving jabs at each other and the whole Rei cares about Usagi more than she lets on. I’m wrong but it’s nice to dream

Okay I just finished the new legacies episode and I don’t even know where to start. So much happened. First of all, Kaylee leaving. I just found out about this after the episode and I’m so sad about it. I saw the theories but I didn’t believe it. I love Josie and Kaylee and I’m going to miss Kaylee on the show so much. I hope things go well for her, though.

The next thing I want to discuss is Aurora in Hope’s body not knowing how to use her magic was a really nice touch. I actually really loved Lizzie in this episode. I loved the scene in that restaurant and her double crossing Aurora and everything she said to Hope. I really liked those scenes. I knew Hope hadn’t turned her humanity back on. Her reaction was way too mild to have just turned it back on. The ‘making me love you’ line, I almost screamed. I love hosie yes but I would not be opposed to hizzie happening. I really saw it this episode. Hosie is still my favourite ship but i see the chemistry. I saw that scene. I have always preferred the idea of them as best friends but like if it happened I would not be mad.

Josie leaving and breaking up with Finch to go after Hope made my hosie heart way too happy. That bubble quickly broke when she bought a sedcond ticket. Although I did really like the way Finch was this episode with Josie. I felt bad for her. But Josie wearing the necklace from Hope was amazing. I loved that getting brought back. We haven’t seen that since that episode. Kaylee leaving can’t mean no more Josie until the end of the season, right? Because she left to go and save Hope. So her not coming back doesn’t make sense to the story. My theory is that after Hope’s humanity is back on, we’ll see Josie leave. The executive producers said that the door is always open so she probably won’t die, although her 

I’m glad Hope is back in her body. I’m not a huge fan of body swapping. However, I do want to see more of Aurora. I really like her as a villain. I also hope her being introduced means Hope learns more about her family history because Klaus had a lot of enemies. The whole family did. She needs to know about her own history yet alone the rest of her family’s.

Right, onto the big thing of the episode (minus Kaylee leaving), Lizzie oh my fucking gods. Hope actually killed her. I can’t believe she actually killed her. I screamed. I’m still in shock. Lizzie is in transition. She’s going to be a heretic. I am so excited for this, you have no idea. And based on the promo, her and Hope are going to team up by the looks of it or at least having screen time together doing something that doesn’t seem to be fighting. And her scene with Josie just I can’t so many feels that broke my heart I love them and I love their relationship and how much it’s developed. And when Josie could feel that something was wrong was just so sad.

I also want to point out that if Lizzie is a heretic now then that means the Merge is no longer an issue right? Which means Caroline no longer has an excuse to be away from the school so I wonder how they’re going to explain it now. Also, Lizzie becoming a vampire and Caroline not coming back would make absolutely no sense for Caroline’[s character but I know she can’t come back because Candice doesn’t want to come back. So I’m just really wondering how they’re going to deal with all of that.

These are just my primary thoughts on the episode but so much happened so I’ll probably talk about it some more later. Right now I’m just going to scream into a pillow for a bit because I am still freaking out over this whole episode. It was such a good episode. The whole Lizzie, Hope and Aurora plot was amazing.

I can’t believe that Hope actually looked at Josie like that during the crush scene, I don’t know how many times have I said it but that didn’t look platonic from any angle to me. She. I mean with the emojis that we have I’m sure I can look for one ‘im so shocked and surprised by this and ily too’ emoji real quick to describe how Hope looked. That’s one scene where I just thought that dude is this actually happening? It was such a pinch me moment!!! I couldn’t believe that Josie had a crush on Hope. And for a second I paused the scene and thought to myself that what will Hope say? It was the make it or break it moment for me. But it wasn’t much of what Hope said and it was more how Hope reacted according to me. Like. Thinking about it just makes my heart go ‘la la la hosie endgame is coming’.

So @unsiredtribrid had this great post last night that started with Josie x Finch but went much deeper to the real point, and I had a few thoughts.

There are so many great threads there I want to tease apart a little and expand upon.

I

First, the show’s handling of Josie’s love interests or possible love interests; the show had a terrible track record of taking Josie’s love interests and casting them aside.

In S1, her ex was Penelope, we didn’t learn much of anything about when they were together, and she left before the end of the season. Josie was crushing on Raf but Lizzie got to him first and “ruined” him for both of them, and even he ends up leaving at the start of S3 (the end of S2 as it was conceived). And of course the crush on Hope that we learned about and kind of simmered right up to the end, when Josie physically felt Hope being erased from her life.

In S2, Josie started the season with Landon, and he dropped her like a hot potato as soon as he remembered Hope (and then ran off on both of them, because Landon the Leaver™). There was the brief thing with Jade post-prison world/Dark Josie, and then Jade, too, left at the start of S3 (the end of S2 as it was conceived). And the crush on Hope (the Pig telling Red Riding Hope to kiss sleeping Princess Josie). Noticing a pattern?

Then in S3 we got Finch, who was extremely jealous and possessive and didn’t want Josie to help her friend [Hope] who had saved Josie (and her family and friends) over and over in the course of the past two years…and they fought over that often. Then, in a twist, Josie left her to go help Hope.

So the show had a bad habit of bringing in a random character (almost always recurring) that we never learned much about and then casting them off. Contrast that to Lizzie’s ultimate endgame, MG, who was a regular who lasted the entire series, and, at least for the first parts of the series, we saw some manner of development and character growth for both of them in conjunction with that potential relationship (MG liked Lizzie in S1, Lizzie didn’t reciprocate until S2 when he was with Alyssa…); it wasn’t super, but it was something.

So in the context of the first two seasons, fans were rightly upset about the unfair handling of Josie’s love interests? What was it about her that always made people want to leave? 😢

And, also in the context of the first two seasons, the writers had set up this long arc pulling Josie and Hope together. The mutual attractions, the close and intimate moments, the saving, Hope always choosing Josie/the twins over Landon, Pig!Josie asking Hope to kiss her (sleeping Princess Josie), and so forth. When S2 had its truncated ending with Josie’s fairytaleland mindscape…if you couldn’t see the Hosie of it all, well…what the hell are you doing reading this post anyway? 😂

And then, inexplicably, after setting up two main characters of Hope and Josie to have a romance, the writers decided to address their flawed handling of Josie’s past love interests by…bringing in yet another side character that we never learned much about (and checked that “person of color” brownie-points box while they were at it) and almost immediately putting them together. And the showrunners were somehow shocked by fans’ dislike of the resulting pairing.

You’re cooking a filet mignon for two seasons, and instead of giving us that prime, tasty, meal, you cut off the fat and toss it at us and want us to be happy about it? Are you fucking kidding me?!

It’s cool for Hope to have a long-running romance with another main character…if it’s a man. It’s cool for Lizzie to have romances with 3 main characters [Raf, Ethan, MG] as long as they’re men (only Sebastian was here and gone). But heaven forbid Josie get another main character for a fully-developed romance! Or Hope and Josie to get the romance the writers set up and teased across two seasons! This is where people rightly get upset about queerbait and scraps and just checking boxes…

I always go back to Buffy when I’m thinking about things, and (it’s been a while) there was a build-up with Tara. We learned about her. She supported Willow. She helped her grow. (Once again, they had the “luxury” of 22-episode seasons to develop things…) And even Tara’s death, as horrific as it was, kicked off an important arc for Willow and resonated long after. Finch was nothing like that for Josie. If anything, Hope was the Tara-esque person to Josie’s Willow.

So there’s that.

III

On the other side of things, as soon as Finch showed up on screen, I immediately said this is exactly the kind of person Josie would date in this situation (given the bizarre situation we had been forced into, with Josie and Hope going from almost kissing to not interacting for half a season). Because Josie Saltzman Has. A. Type.

An outsider, brooding, somewhat-dangerous, loner?

Hope Marshall, anyone? Our archetype.

Penelope’s a bit of a tougher fit, because we know so little about her, but she’s got the dangerous part, and she’s (when we meet her) on the outside of Josie’s social circle, at least.

Raf checks pretty much all of those boxes at the moment Josie meets him, especially as he’s separated from Landon at that point.

Landon’s another weird fit, but he’s been mostly an outsider, and the two are both “alone” when they get together. And maybe killing yourself repeatedly for glimpses of someone ticks brooding and somewhat-dangerous?

Hope Mikaelson…I mean…!

Jade’s a bad girl (maybe with a good heart) and an outsider at the point they get together…and she has clear echoes of someone else.

And then Finch, check, check, check, check. Josie’s type.

As much as I disliked Finch’s jealousy and controlling nature, her badmouthing Hope (whom she didn’t know, nor did she know Josie’s history with her), her unwillingness to fight for Josie, and the ultimate lack of chemistry when they were together, and in general her arrival/presence in the series as part of this bizarre hard-right turn in Josie’s behavior…

As much as I disliked all of that, I could have lived with the run of Josie x Finch that we endured if Legacies had gone on for another season—or Kaylee hadn’t felt the need to protect herself and leave—and we had seen Josie find her way back to Hope. People have bad, inexplicable romantic partners in the real world. Hope had a couple. Lizzie (Sebastian) and MG (Alyssa) had one. But you move on.

And when the writers have set up this epic love, one where they each go to the ends of the earth to support and save each other…and instead we’re left with a box-check-only relationship that feels like it has no chemistry…no, I won’t let people keep trying to gaslight me into believing table-scraps of fat are a five-star dinner when the writers repeatedly not only put filet mignon on the menu but also brought out samples and encouraged me to order it.

My thoughts for Legacies 316: (here we go again😂)

(I’m combining after thoughts with live thoughts)

1) The soundtracks for this episode are amazing, they fit very well even for Finsie that I heard that a lot of people were complaining on Reddit.

2) I finally get my team Sowanby! I just feel so much from them! They kind of make a great team, but please, do not go on another heist again. You both sucks at that! The holes are, the museum don’t have a fucking alarm for Leonardo DaVinci’s work? Are you kidding me? And Landon beating the shit out of the guard but not putting him out first is so dumb. The worst is Cleo calling Landon’s name so loud, I can’t😂😂😂😂😂😂 you don’t want people to be on your back when you have the Malivore threat going on guys! And ha! You guys are on the headline! That’s why I really feel like these supernaturals are so outdated and solidified from modern technology, even in 2030! Are you going to tell me everything technology will still be the same like now?? Come on, there’ll be cameras watching everywhere. Like they can see Cleo using magic! I need my Trimini (or bridge) coven and Hope starting to integrate the supernatural world with the modern world. 3) the line about “many who shaped it are never acknowledged” I stand! After that, about the key card my random thoughts were about Landon being the one that stole the key card😂 just out of the blue and I’m proven wrong though.

4) Landon bonding with Cleo!!!! They thought the same way, and “I can promise that anyone that have to get to you, they have to get to me” is so strong! But the scene after, is the moment I started really doubting Landon, the look is too alarming. But there are still Sowanby scenes😭😭😭 and the melted heart mud... I mean I genuinely believed that the spell didn’t work because Landon is also mud himself. But in hindsight it is horrific, like the serial killer is just standing next to you but and the signs are right in front of you.

5) Malivore mud being artistically friendly! I can’t haha! Oh and when Holarke walked on Sowanby inspiring moment🤣🤣🤣I can’t, they act like both of them are cheating on one another it’s hilarious. Thank you for acknowledging each other Holarke and Sowanby🤣. By now, I should have known that’s MaliLandon. It’s humiliating because Holarke and Sowanby got me so happy that I didn’t see the clues lmao! Because there’s this line: “Following the footstep of the Renaissance greatest man? ” but this thing, Cleo only did it with Leonardo, with whom she slept with......

6) And damn, after that, I felt like a FOOL, CLOWN, WHATEVER after that! All I have for team Sowanby is fake 🙃🙃🙃🤡🤡🤡 Anyway we still have to admit that the promise still stand true right, cuz it’s literal.🤣🤣🤣 MaliLandon fulfills his promise by eating Cleo. TYPICAL.

7) Holarke! Clarke is still handsome as ever😍. We can see his presence is clearly affecting Josie and making Hope giving him information. Can we talk about how cute is he sleeping soundly here?

8) Lizzie being the only unaffected queen here. AND IT’S FINALLY LIZZIE’S TURN FOR “AD SONNUM” I can totally see her pleasantness in doing that to somebody after being on the receiving end🤣🤣🤣 Josie and Hope had done it before so now we actually see her doing it. I somehow feel completed.

9) The look Hope and Josie shared. Hosie!

10) Josie is going to be the death of me! I like her look. And how the camera moving upward gosh! And I’m totally digressing here, what is a razzleberry? And what is a slush? I have no idea what they are, I just feel like tasting what she tasting now. Lizzie’s line, crashing and splashing😂 Am I colour blind? Cuz I really can’t tell whether Hope is wearing dark blue or dark green 😅 if it’s green, then the traffic lights colour are back again lol. If blue, then Hosie matching clothes! Did Finsie ever have matching colours? I’m just wondering.

11) Hosie scene! They talked about how seeing Clarke traumatised Josie~~ damn and Josie says traumatised is her permanent resting state. I mean even on her birthday she was buried alive lmao. And Hope wants to help Josie stop the traumas by sacrificing herself to defeat Malivore, like by literally dying. Which she didn’t want because she didn’t want to live forever.

12) Holarke scene again! I love all those banters and their dynamics😂😂 how Hope is the only one that trusts Clarke now. The mimic spell! It’s their thing😍😍. Oh it totally surprised me that Clarke isn’t mud man anymore. I’m really happy for him, because he finally break himself out of the abuse! It seems like triad is totally gone?? But I still kind of think that there may be something more? And Clarke’s reaction to Hope opening the artefact! 🤣🤣🤣 and the way that Clarke sensed the familiarity with Cleo! Yea boy, she’s the inspiration to the creation of you.

13) Clarke keeps calling Hope and Landon kids🤣 how’s the feeling of getting kid!Hope kicking your ass and saving you😂😂😂 oh she’s totally your equal. Frenemies at best! YES! I love Holarke bonding. And the fact that Clarke being Hope inspiration to believe in friendship and her family now can help her to defeat Malivore, I Stan! Don’t lose sight of the corner! Josie! Lizzie! Clarke! Yes you have them! I’m glad that Clarke didn’t die, I’ll be so mad because the writer would be bringing him back for nothing. Oh the incendia is painful, affecting me more than the fake looking MaliLandon eating Cleo. The height difference again🤣 with Holarke this time.

14) I love Maleb clothes, not really shipping them just short form for their bromance😂 but I do enjoy if there suggests shipping cuz it’s fun! Love that them being supportive of each other, superheroing, and the hero name🤣🤣they’re clueless too. Poor Kaleb and Cleo. I really need his backstory 😫

15) about hero names, I’m still having playback of “blursome and essential” in my mind. MG is looking at the mask longer than Kaleb, I feel like he’s missing Ethan, like a lot. Another thing is, since we see the effect of someone else being compelled so clearly, but we never seen Ethan’s compelling effects. Or it’s a budget matter? They must be kidding right? So maybe Ethan is really faking it? So that leads us to Lethan....

16) if my suspicion is true, then damn, Ethan is using Lizzie to get into SBS? I’m worried for Lizzie’s wellbeing. Also the look on Josie when Ethan drives near tight after she said like some eligible will fall out of the sky🤣🤣🤣 the timing is impeccable lmao. For real, Lizzie wanting Ethan to be Hope’s rebound after her kiss with him in the trio imagination, is ....so the trio is now sharing guys now? Jandon is still there in the history! It’ll be like a very messing love multi-triangle😌😌😌

17) the way Lizzie talked about how Hope is perfect the whole way and judging by the day when they arrived at SBS? That’s very long! Lmao, Lizzie are you sure you’re not in love with Hope? Hizzie rights! (I don’t even know when I started to ship Hizzie, it’s a mystery🤣) I think I can only talk like that about my love. Why don’t you make you and your sister Hope’s rebound? I’ll be happy with what I get🤣

18) The decision to bring Ethan on a tour, is so bad. What if ethan ended up enrolling SBS and Alaric can’t deny the application? Did she ever think of that?? And Josie and Mg is going to face the consequences in the near future🤣 dreadful! From there I already felt the cliche sweetness that when you’re trying to be a wingwoman and ended up “selling” yourself out🤣🤣 fuck CW for cutting the scenes of Lizzie’s epic facial expression when she was slapped with her own words😂😂😂anyway, it’s no way she can refuse the ask out after 315 where Lizzie still thinks that she can’t be the chosen one when Hope is there, but someone actually chooses her even after all the Hope is perfect speech. As much as I mourn for Methan and Mizzie, I’m happy that she got someone to tell her that. But I think they’re destined to backfire😅

19) so does the Mizzie “will they won’t they?” officially end here? I’m confused. Btw it’s really a way to mention Sebastian’s death being relocated permanently 🤣 oh wait...she knew that that prison world is destroyed forever right????? Someone save me.

20) okay I have to go back before Ethan picked the twins up: while Lizzie is actually worrying about themselves being stranded, Josie is just more concerned about Hope? Hosie! Poor Josie, she never sees that she is Hope soft spot and can totally make Hope happy too. Look at your dumb joke at 103, Hope’s laugh is magnificent too. It’s because of you. And yes I’m with Josie, I just ship Hope with herself and her axe right now, don’t put her with anyone for at least 5 more episode please.

21) The one that doesn’t dissolve into goo! Now is Clarke! And the both of you my dear twins. Btw, the dna thing, where Clarke confirms that dna is still toxic... so it applies to Landon too right? And it’s now just more overwhelmingly apparent that handon sex is without protection. Yea so much for epic love. And this is about the possibility where (hopefully) it’s not MaliLandon when the sex scene happened.

22) Finsie time! I got to say, it’s really improving. Their scene is beautiful, finally. That feeling that they’re nice together is now going on continuous for me. I’m happy for them! They are now stepping up on Hosie, not derogatory, I’m just seeing some parallels from hosie here. The disclose of Ethan broken arm, where Hosie has done, before that there’s Clarke’s traumatising Josie thing with Hosie. Next, the focus on the hand holding, I’m thinking of 207 and others. The “me being here with you”, with hosie 308 “then I’ll be here with you”. The whole thing is very comforting for Josie. The hug is good too. We can see that they finally have some nice scene and the bgm is good for them.

23) I have no idea what is magical agronomy, so I look it up. Again, that shows how Josie love plants, like someone in Reddit said they observed that Josie’s side of room has several plants. And in 307, the herbs, that she remembers. I think it can help a lot if Hope is starting a magical technology company. Josie’s interest in that can come in handy. They’ll make a great team. 24) we are still missing Jed here. Justice for Jed. We need Jed real first name. Did anyone notice when the super squad faces MaliLandon there’s no werewolf present? They’re really downplaying that huh? But maybe I can be satisfied that they are not making Finch being there but not Jed.

25) We need to address this thing about Handon. It’s like one and a half time that Hope couldn’t recognise that Landon is not Landon right? We still have to give credits to her memories shared with Cleo actually make Cleo kind of recognise the difference? So half a time. I agree with Josie’s words that Landon makes Hope happy. I mean, yes, most of the time they failed in working but there’s still sweet scenes between them. So that’s actually what makes Handon tolerable. They are what makes me only do facepalm rather than skipping them. So yes of course Hope has happy moments with Landon. Just that it doesn’t mean that they’re good together.

26) it’s always Landon’s bros that first find out Landon wasn’t Landon😂 this time is Clarke. It’s Clarke that tell Hope, “Landon will never leave you”. That’s the inconsistency of the writers, not counting MaliLandon’s time, it’s still two times. And there’s time that some will argue that Landon’s feet literally walk away from Hope. So...that’s not true, do not stuff that in our throat anymore. “I always thought you two are destined to be together” is this the writer way of saying they’re not doing Handon anymore or otherwise? Cuz “thought” is past tense and “are” is present tense. I’m tired. It’s normal that Hope still wants Landon to be happy and still love him. But after the breakup, when she still doesn’t know that it’s MaliLandon, the “still dying to get Landon again” is obsession. Girl, it’s derogatory to your self-esteem. “If a mud man like me can beat his fate, maybe you kids can too” yea that’s Handon going on.

27) we shouldn’t need to be told that Handon is epic love multiple times. We should be able to feel them, see them ourselves. Why did I start approving Finsie now, because instead of them being only all talking and no showing, now we see them working well (until now). I have been widely accepting to any other legacies ships and why I never ship Handon? So really these multiple telling us that how good is Landon to Hope, is not working. I’ve never been so frustrated.

28) Let’s appreciate the Handon parallel with 101. It’s interesting that how Landon is inside the cage and Hope is outside the cage again. The meaning of the cage has deep meaning here. Handon first kiss is in the cage, that kind of mean that their love is trapped there. Like how their relationship being so troublesome and bound by these fateful encounters. The lights are quite similar, handon always has this blue lighting for them, which sometimes it’s kind of weird. The first time it is Hope decorating the ceiling with stars for Landon. It’s sweet, but also implying that what Handon has is the false beauty of them and not keeping the cage symbolism in mind. In other way of interpreting it, this is the writer foreshadowing their endgame. Cuz they’re trapped there, no way in no way out.

29) I think I’m not the only one bothered by the mostly lack of real Landon appearance in s3. As we can see how MaliLandon words sits so right about, Landon not belonging to SBS if it weren’t Hope. Then he leaves with Cleo, that’s a thing for Sowanby too, they still don’t have roots with the school, and it’s a great bonding between them, friendship or not. It’s the bond between them that matter. In 314 315, we always see that the students were totally fine without Landon. Like the three trios paralleling? It’s sad that Landon is like bouncing here and there in SBS but never really belong. And now the writers kind of ripped his personal development. So now he has neither his pheonix powers nor fighting skills, great? And even Hope’s growth too. We are seeing her moving to a good direction and the writers have to drag her back in the hell hole. Hope needs to not always looking at Landon for her happiness, it’s not good for the both of them. Like MG said, be your own person.

30) THEORIES regarding Landon: a) It’s MaliLandon all the way? I hope not, it’s reminding me of Lost Girl that one of the characters slept with the father personating the person she loves, and got pregnant. Tell you what was more alarming? When the episode ended, I was recommended to move on to Lost Girl on CW seed. It’s disgusting! Why do you want to help make me hate Handon? I don’t even hate them initially! I’m like struggling to be logical and lean on the positive side here. Why I can’t move on from this possibility: first, I’ve always headcannon that Malivore has partial control over Landon. Like how Landon actually wasn’t lying in 102 103? That’s Malivore. And Handon, as genius as always, doesn’t talk about it. Second, the way that Landon dissolved, he was human back then, but he turns into goo? how does it even work? If he is human, toxic to dna will make him die, not become goo, right? Even if that wasn’t a problem, it can also be MaliLandon trying his luck. Third, Malivore purpose is to make the perfect legacy, he will totally give it a try to make tribrid-Malivore babies. Fourth, during the inspiration from Cleo, MaliLandon has Landon’s memories, enhancing the theories that Malivore has partial control over Landon, so even if it wasn’t MaliLandon, it’s still partial-MaliLandon. Fifth, after the inspiration, MaliLandon said that he doesn’t need Hope to tackle his problem or for his purposes, which means he initially wanted Hope, thinking getting to Hope can help with his purposes. It’s really not a far-fetched.

31) THEORIES regarding Landon: b) it’s real Landon during sex, but Malivore got him in the prison world. While having Landon’s personal growth ripped and Handon still dragging out are not pleasant at all, this is still a more pleasant theory for me. At least Landon did start fighting for himself after sometime, and while the sex is still partial-MaliLandon, at least it’s not MaliLandon. (I’m always using at least for Handon 🙃) maybe we can still have Landon fighting skills? Cuz I was happy for him about this though. But I just don’t think so. The evidence for this theory is, my feeling about Landon in 306 is that it kind of fits Landon personality, but he did start his violence there. Another thing is the letter. There’s care in “to whom it may concern”. However, that can be just me being simp. And there’s also possibilities that the partial control from Malivore is cultivating Landon’s behaviour starting there and slowly taking control. Because making a deal with the devil always has its consequences. It’s either that or Landon was taken after the letter.

32) regarding the picture above, i just want to point out about another interesting point about the structure of the scene, if you scroll back and see sowanby picture with the door and another bonding talk, you can se that there’s always pillar and frames that’s framing or trapping them together. Like Handon. I mean that’s totally MaliLandon, so this pointing out is not mean to be romantic. It’s just a thought about how devastating that Cleo is stuck in something her whole life, especially the picture structure that implies that she’s stuck with MaliLandon again.

33) overall I’m thinking this is a good and disgusting episode. With all the unexpected twist, it’s really good, there’s actually layers in showing us that Landon is not Landon every time. Then those bonding. The soundtrack, the scenes. Disgusting, is about the theory, and how we are all tangled back to Handon again after we finally have some fresh air. Not to mention the always surprisingly convenient that Landon always has an excuse when we see Landon did something bad to Hope. Like he can never be making big mistake while only having little questionable doings that can’t possible tarnish him being the perfect person in the show. The first time he lies, Malivore controlled him. During the pageant competition, he is justified to walk away when he totally chose the wrong timing to ask that question, leaving Hope alone breaking in front of such important event. 207, monsters are coming for him, he’s protecting people by leaving. Musical episode, he needs to cross boundaries because it’s bound to be, without further reasoning it with Hope, when Hope specifically was very respectful of him in 111 about his songs. And now, this. That’s not him, we can’t blame him. He will never be blame for something big because the writers is biased. Very biased in making that Landon is better than anyone else in the show, so he’s the perfect guy for Hope. Like no one can compare with him. He’s almost perfect. Perfect than Hope.

34) Reflect on what Hope did in 308, MG is kind of right, she shouldn’t have touched it without fully prepared. Because it totally let Malivore running out free instead of him being an originally contained problem. It’s for the good view in whole. Heroes make hard decisions. There’s still the hair thing cut from Hope and Golem!Landon.

Things have to be said about the Legacies Musical episode...

When this episode was announced as a tribute to TVD and TO’s music, I was super excited but, as soon as they came out saying it was actually gonna be a musical about TVD and TO, I had a feeling it was gonna be a shit show.

I am happy to report that it was actually better than I thought, although it had quite a few misses for me - but let’s start with the good.

Fair warning, this post is Anti-Handon

One of the things I liked about this episode was the Monster of the Week. I am honestly done with the format of a new monster every episode but at least this one was refreshing and it had me guessing his true intentions all through the episode. He was charismatic, funny and just interesting to watch. Plus, his initial sequence with MG was one of the funniest the show has ever done lol 

He did break Josie’s arm and for that he will never forgiven but at the same time he gave Hope some very much needed comfort and he got bonus points for that.

Another positive was Caroline’s ‘cameo’. I feel like it’s a long time coming and I don’t know why we didn’t get it sooner but it warmed my heart to see her help Lizzie going through all her insecurities of feeling like she isn’t as good as her mother or even her sister. My baby is a powerful witch who can do whatever she sets her mind to, but she needs a hug every once in awhile!!!!

Also, JASIE!!!! Jade finally came back and I swear to you, I screamed at THE scene. I am a Hosie shipper first and human second, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t lowkey ship Jasie. That whole scene hit so many key elements but, at the same time, it hit all those elements because they weren’t trying to rush Jade’s leaving - which I understand but it can’t go unspoken.

Now come the bad parts. Although the singing was amazing in this episode (Kaylee, Jenna, Danielle, Chris and Ben blew me away with their singing) the songs were very... meh. I was expecting something up to par with “Stepping Into the Light” that Kaylee sang in season 1 but it was just... not. Were they horrible? No. Will I listen to them again? Most likely not. Which is a shame because this is a Musical. You want your songs to be good and catchy and to stay with the audience after the show ends.

Another not good thing was how they dealt with Handon... AGAIN! 

Look, I am so damn tired of them breaking up one episode only to get back together in the next without ever fixing the problem of why they broke up in the first place. I . AM . TIRED! Not only was it rushed but it also made no sense with what they did in the episode. Landon spent the whole episode disregarding Hope’s feelings. Hope deliberately asked him to not write about her family. What does he do? He writes about her family. Then, not only does he write about her family, he uses one of Klaus’ letters for Hope, PRIVATE letters, to write a music for a musical that Hope didn’t want her family to be a part of. Only for Hope to have a conversation about her dad with the MOTW, that although made complete sense for Hope’s development in relation to her family but not at all related to the problem at hand with the musical, and all of a sudden she is okay to be in the musical that she has been condemning the entire episode - and, not only is she okay with the musical, she is so okay that she uses that moment to sing to Landon and make up... out of nowhere.

There was quite literally no talking about their MANY problems before reconciliation. NOT ONLY THAT! But a song that was meant to be an emotional song about her father, ended up becoming about Landon. They are really doing their best here to make Hope’s character all about Landon.

Legacies needs to learn how to stick with a story line and develop it and build on it, so characters can evolve from it. Every time they break up Handon, the very next episode they put them back together. If you want to break them up and get them back together again at least drag it out for a few more episodes, so it feels like them getting back together was earned and not given jfc.

Anyway, to end on a positive note... The best part of the episode was Josie telling Landon “you gave up on Hope, like, twice.”. Yes he did, Josie. YES. HE. DID. Call out the hypocrisy.

Fuck sorry no okay I thought of something more for my Hosie Jujutsu Kaisen AU

ok ok ok so Mikaelson family are like infamous. So I think in this AU, it would make sense if they're part of the Big Three Families (like Gojo clan, Kamo clan, Zen'in clan).

The other family that would be part of the BTF would I think be the Gemini Coven (I think I'll leave them as that name instead of like idfk listen I only watched LGCS and TO bear with me here I'm so sorry) as that is the only logical thing in my mind (also, I have decided that everyone in the Gemini Coven's Domain Expansion is called Prison World--because again, iirc they're the only ones on the show that can create a prison world so it would make sense--but like each of their Prison World Domain would be different/represents the person themselves. So like Josie's Domain Expansion: Prison World would maybe have something to do with school library/studying to reflect her character from LGCS or IDK I didn't think THAT far ahead other than everyone in the Gemini Coven's Domain Expansion is called Prison World)

For the third family that's part of the Big Three Families, I think it'd be interesting if it was Malivore.

We didn't get a lot about Malivore in LGCS other than he's just a goopy goop that wipes out a creature's existence if they fall into him. So I think if I were to just make Malivore into just. A guy or more like, a powerful family (I've already made some Malivore lore for my Hosie Omegaverse fic that I haven't touched in a while) would help me figure out a better way to write this apparent Hosie JJK AU fic that I've decided I will now hyperfixate on. And it would be nice to rope in other characters and figure their story out and their relationship to the main premise of why I'm writing out this long-ass ramble about a niche AU/crossover lmao (like maybe Landon and Rafael get accepted into Jujutsu High after they experienced some deep shit with curses--kinda similar to how they got brought to Salvatore school. Landon, like in the show, doesn't know he's actually from the Malivore family and discovers this along the way with Hope and the twins and Super Squad and oh man if this supposed one-shot AU fic becomes a series I will punt myself into the sun)

And I think it would help me figure out even MORE on how to turn this AU into a Hosie thing.

Originally I was wondering--because of age--Hope would be a 3rd year while Josie and Lizzie would be 1st years, but I wanted Hope and the twins to be more of like a team. I don't know I'll try and figure this bit out. But I think maybe they knew each other when they were younger and ofc Josie has a crush on Hope since childhood because of how cool and pretty Hope is and as they grew up, that childhood crush turns into like full on Josie is pining mad hard for Hope.

Oh yeah, so, Hope would 100% without a doubt be a Special-Grade Sorcerer to reflect her Tribrid status. it just makes sense.

The twins, because I've decided that they do have curse energy but it's so fucking faint that it feels as though they don't... Maybe they'd be 1st or 2nd-Grade Sorcerers. I'll have to go back and read up on the different Grades (or maybe use this as an excuse to rewatch JJK teehee)

Anyways, sorry, back to the Hosie wow I'm sorry I am rambling anyway

So yeah, I think it's a "they fell first but they fell harder" thing. Though I do want to bring in the canon fact that Hope had a crush on Josie in her teens into this AU somehow. I mean maybe she still does. Maybe Josie continues to crush on Hope and sees how amazing of a sorcerer she is and wants to get stronger as a sorcerer so she can feel worthy to stand beside Hope and fight alongside her.

Hope probably develops a crush on Josie when Josie comforts Hope and is there for her when something happened to the Mikaelson family--or more specifically Hope's parents, leaving her an orphan. Hope appreciates Josie's warmth and kindness and maybe notices her more now (kinda also like in the show, ESPECIALLY the "quiet things heard" episode. like Hope being hyperaware and perceptive with/about Josie in that quiet way and secretly looking out for her is hella cute).

The brain bees are ruminating. I'm gonna have to really plan this out properly if I'm going to make this AU work

hopefully this will just be a one-shot fanfic but you know what. wouldn' be surprised if I end up making a whole multi-chapter fic for this.

Do you think Josie is in love with Hope and just doesn't realize it yet? Because the shit she's been doing for Hope in these episodes are NOT at all normal bff behaviour

You may go ahead, call me a clown, and even paint my nose red because after last night's episode... I don't just think Josie is (still) in love with Hope. I think she's starting to realize it.

Hear me out... We don't need to get into the obvious because, at this point, we all know Josie has had feelings for Hope and vice versa. It's canon, it's undeniable, it's been made explicit through dialogue, and anyone who refuses to acknowledge that is straight up disregarding what we've seen on the show and know to be true.

Focusing on these past few episodes, though – especially since Hope almost effectively killed Alaric –, it's undeniable that Josie's response to what happened has been... Odd, to put it simply, coming from someone whose father was pretty much beat into a pulp. We know Josie has a good heart, but we've also seen her be fiercely protective of her own. After all, Josie's relationship with Penelope ended in great part due to the animosity between her and Lizzie and, in recent times, Josie has always prioritized Lizzie's safety (at least where the whole Merge situation is concerned) to her own – and, with that, her own relationships. So it's incredibly kind and forgiving (almost uncharacteristically so) of her to be this concerned with Hope after what she's done. The implication here being that Hope very clearly isn't just any other person, not to Josie.

There are quite a few scenes in this episode that, in my opinion, were very clearly leaning towards Hosie (and we'll get to them in a second) but, ironic as it might be, the one that stood out to me the most, and the one I think is most indicative of just how much Josie still cares about Hope, was a scene between her and Finch.

Now, fair warning: some things about this scene analysis of mine are a reach, and I very much recognize that. But please, bear with me.

Watching their final scene, there's one very clear sentiment that stands out in-between the rest and that is one of guilt. Through virtually the entire duration of the scene, Josie avoids eye contact with Finch, with the exception of when, in contrast, she's being open and honest about her feelings regarding what Lizzie did at the hospital and how she selfishly half-wishes her sister had carried out her plan. With that being said, though, at its core, this scene is about how Josie is absolutely alone through all this, and I think it's fair to assume she doesn't feel alone because she's not seeing eye to eye with Lizzie, and much less because her sister decided to go into the therapy box without her. Losing Alaric's guidance, despite playing a part, is definitely also not the end-all-be-all aspect in this, as supported by Josie's directed focus towards finding a way to get Hope back, this episode – not her father. No, the real reason she feels this way is because Hope is a very important element to the relative balance there is to her life, an anchor of sorts who usually aids in her in figuring out what's next, and her not being there is sort of the final straw.

But... Finch is there. Surely, she's not really alone. Except that, she is. And she knows it. Has known it since the beginning of the episode; maybe before, even, and that's where all the guilt comes from.

Here's where the reaching part begins. When Finch shares that she thought Josie would "go in the box" with Lizzie, Josie averts her eyes when responding. Knowing this scene is about Lizzie for the most part but not exclusively, as supported by the context provided by the entirety of this episode, it's not hard to imagine that being left out by her sister brought about similar feelings to having been left behind by Hope, days earlier – both instances proving to be something Josie, herself, had no say or control over. But while this moment can be promptly dismissed as overthinking things, the one that follows offers a little more clarity to Josie's state of mind.

I won't screenshot the whole scene in here because I don't want to make this post much longer than necessary and there are still a few things I want to cover, but hopefully you'll get the gist of it (and, well, I'm assuming you've watched the episode by now).

Despite having avoided scenes between Josie and Finch for the most part for the sake of my own wellbeing, I genuinely felt Kaylee's acting choice of having Josie look somewhat detached from Finch in a moment where she arguably said some rather okay things was pretty strange. That is, until it clicked. Maybe – just maybe – this scene is supposed to feel strange because Josie's heart is just not in it. Again, it hasn't been the whole episode. Time and time again, throughout this, Josie has shown that her heart is set towards finding Hope (who, herself, is hurting) and making things right. Not just because Hope shouldn't be going through this new stage in her life alone, but also because Josie, herself, doesn't feel whole with her being gone.

And, just maybe, Hope isn't feeling quite whole, herself.

Even though no-humanity Hope is an undeniable badass, it's clear something is amiss. I mean, even Clarke knows it, with how he read her like a book. Now, I will not go into how, when Ryan mentioned how Trudy is "one of those people who loves with their whole heart immediately", Hope showed an inkling of emotion. Perhaps some sort of recollection of someone she personally knows who is just like that.

No, I refuse to clown over this. Like, absolutely not.

But either way, Ryan proceeded to point out how Hope, all things considered, is way more privileged than he is in the sense that she at least has a home – not in the physical sense of four walls and a roof, but a conglomerate of people who wholeheartedly love her and would do anything for her, who are still trying, despite everything, despite how hard she might try to push them away, to do right by her, to show her support, to be there for her. Josie is, of course, at the forefront of that. And even though Hope tries to play it off like she’s not affected by Clarke’s words, it’s very clear that he struck a nerve by the way she responds to the comment in such an offensive (perhaps defensive) matter, having been called out on her bullshit. The thing is, Hope knows he’s right. So, she’s headed back home.

Like I said, though, there’s moments scattered throughout the episode that can indicate that there are still unresolved feelings between Hope and Josie, with Josie being the one closest to a breakthrough, in my personal opinion. These were the ones that stood out the most to me, especially within the context of what was going on with these characters in this particular episodes, but some noticeable mentions also include:

Tldr; Josie is in love with Hope, has started to realize it, and it has become abundantly clear. I haven’t been this hopeful, no pun intended, about a possible future relationship between these two in a very, very long time, and I think the show will suffer immensely if it doesn’t capitalize on this chance to properly dig into their dynamic.

After Josie hangs up the call with Freya, she's visibly shaken because, for the first time, she's confronted with a thought she didn't want to have: what if Hope really is beyond saving? What if there's nothing she can do to convince Hope to turn her humanity back on? It's something that leaves her visibly shaken, as evidenced by the way she reacts. 

And all the guilt I've mentioned earlier, it isn't there just because Josie is beginning to realize there's still something there, where her feelings for Hope are concerned. That actually starts to kick in a little later on. At this point, she feels guilty about having spent the night with Finch while her dad and Hope were going through all these terrible experiences by themselves. 

This is where her avoidance of Finch first becomes apparent: when Finch reaches out to try and soothe her, Josie looks anywhere but her way. She actively avoids looking her girlfriend in the eye, and proceeds to snap ever so slightly at the mention of needing to "relax" because the last time she did (with Finch, that is), she wasn't able to be there for the people in her life who needed it the most. We won't get into whether or not that is healthy for Josie, it's just what it is.

This is also the first time during this scene that Josie actually faces Finch and, when she does, it's definitely confrontational. Here, it seems she's projecting her own guilt onto anger towards Finch, the person who was with her when she "failed" the people she actually loves. Josie inevitably catches herself after this brief moment where she slipped and all but exposed her real feelings about the whole ordeal, and ends up apologizing to Finch for the outburst. 

But also... It's a little too late for it. Because, by now, Finch knows this is not her place. That she's almost a side plot to Josie's main narrative. And the fact that this scene comes about after the one where Cleo mentions the fact that "We all have people we will go to extraordinary lengths for" is just rich, because it absolutely hints at the fact that Finch is simply not one of them.

Kaylee Bryant On "Legacies," The Importance Of Queer Rep On TV, Hosie, And More

"I have so many people constantly telling me that watching Josie on the show has made them feel more comfortable in themselves."

This week, Kaylee Bryant squeezed us into her schedule to talk about their role as Josie Saltzman on Legacies. As a huge Josie fan, I couldn't think of a better way to spend a morning than talking to Kaylee about The Vampire Diaries, Hosie, our favorite books, and more! Here's everything we talked about:

1. What was your audition for Legacies like?

My audition process was very interesting because they kept a lot of it a secret. I had no script and a fake character name. And then I had my second audition, a chemistry read, which Jenny Boyd [Lizzie] wasn't even at. I walked in and immediately just flat-out asked, "This is for the twins, right?" So it was long, but short and intense at the same time.

BuzzFeed: Wait, did you know which twin you were going to be playing?

I initially auditioned for Josie, and then during chemistry reads, they started asking me to read for Lizzie. And then we had our final callback where I finally met Jenny and we both read for both roles. They never told us [who was playing who] until Jenny had her appointment to go dye her hair blonde.

2. What's a typical day on set like?

Gosh, it changes every time. If it's a busy day on set, we're talking like 8 a.m. call time where we spend about two hours on hair and makeup and go straight into rehearsals. If it's a big sort of episode that involves stunt work and wire work, you're talking about doing maybe two scenes in a day. But if it's an average day, we can do anywhere from three to five scenes and we can start at 8 a.m. and wrap at 8 p.m. It really depends. I'm surprised if I'm not surprised.

3. You’ve said you’re a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries. Josie played Elena in the musical episode — what was that like?

It was surreal for sure. They had talked a little bit about doing a musical episode since Season 1. And I always thought that they were joking when they talked about doing Salvatore: The Musical!, so when they said Josie would obviously play Elena, I was like, "Hahaha." And then I got the script and realized I actually was playing Elena. The musical aspect of it was the easy part. The difficult part was, I think, getting into the iconic Elena attire and trying to feel normal. Because we have a lot of crew members that worked on The Vampire Diaries, and they kept coming up to me being like, "This is weird. I feel weird."

4. Do you have a favorite scene you’ve filmed with Courtney Bandeko (Finch) this season?

I really did love the scene that we had in the town square [when] we got on a moped. There were so many fans in the town square that were huddled in the rain — it was pouring rain, freezing cold — trying to snap photos of us. And it was kind of one of those surreal moments where it felt full circle, that I was on a Vampire Diaries spinoff in town square. It was a lot going on, but it was a lot of fun. It's always fun working with Courtney.

5. You and Danielle Rose Russell (Hope) also have amazing chemistry — what’s your favorite scene you’ve filmed together?

Oh gosh, we have a lot that are pretty amazing. Honestly, I'd say [Season 3] Episode 14 — we finally got to do a lot more scenes together. And it's always fun, especially when it's Josie, Lizzie, and Hope, because we have so much history character-wise. Any time you really get to dive into that, we love it.

6. I know Josie and Finch are working through some things right now, but I gotta ask — how do you feel about Hosie?

I love it. Danielle and I loved the idea of Hosie starting from Season 1, and we kept asking and asking and asking for it. So it's kind of funny and full circle that now the fans have kind of taken our side with things, and now they won't stop asking for it. All we want is this beautiful, dynamic relationship. And I think that the fans want that as well.

BuzzFeed: Yeah, I mean, people have even been asking me about Hosie, and I don't work on the show!

Oh, I'm sure! [Laughs] Obviously I love it, though.

7. Is there a particular Josie moment you’re really proud of?

Josie has a scene coming up in Episode 18 — or 19? — I don't know, but it's good. It's sort of the pinnacle of everything that Josie has felt over the past three years kind of culminating into one moment. So, I'm excited for people to see it.

8. You recently came out as queer. How has playing Josie, who’s pansexual, impacted you personally?

I felt a lot of pressure when I initially booked Josie because I was still figuring out who I was and what my label was. And playing a character who was so comfortable in who she was, it was inspiring [to me] in a way that I think a lot of other people watching the show have been inspired. I have so many people constantly telling me that watching Josie on the show has made them feel more comfortable in themselves. It's kind of amazing that we all have the same experience in that having queer representation makes you more comfortable.

9. You’ve been vocal about your Asian identity, and your character has spoken Japanese on the show. Did you have a hand in incorporating that into Josie’s character?

No, not at all! So, I spoke Japanese a few times on the [Instagram] Live and one of our writers, Penny Cox, saw me speaking Japanese and immediately went to Brett [Matthews] and was like, "We need to make this happen somehow." And then all of a sudden, I had a script in my hands. So it was a surprise, but a fun one.

BuzzFeed: Are you fluent in Japanese?

Gosh, no! I'm barely fluent in English. [Laughs] I would say I speak at the level of maybe a second-grader on a good day, though.

10. If you could pitch any storyline for Josie, what would it be?

I always joke that I want an episode that takes place overnight. That way, we all have to be wearing pajamas the entire episode. I just want to wear some comfy clothes for a whole two weeks, that's my main goal. So we can have a pajama episode, that's my pitch.

11. What's it like getting into character for Dark Josie scenes?

It's different in the sense that I know Josie so well. And knowing Josie in turn makes me understand Dark Josie. I have a whole different playlist of music that I listen to for Dark Josie — and I have the wig, which helps a lot with getting into character.

BuzzFeed: Well, now I have to ask what music is on that playlist!

I think "Bury a Friend" by Billie Eilish is a great one for Dark Josie. Also, "Villain" by K/DA is a prime example of a perfect song for Dark Josie, so I listen to that one as well.

12. What's your go-to Starbucks order?

Plain black iced Americano. Aria [Shahghasemi, who plays Landon] says I drink coffee like a sociopath. [Laughs]

13. What TV show are you currently binging?

I just finished watching Alice in Borderland, which is a Japanese show on Netflix. And I know Feel Good Season 2 just came out, so I think that's my next binge.

14. Damon or Stefan?

Stefan! They're both beautiful and I love them very much, but I'm Team Stefan when it comes to Elena.

15. If you could work with anyone from The Vampire Diaries, who would it be?

Ian Somerhalder has a lot of dogs. So, maybe I want to work with him for the sole reason of just talking about dogs. [Writer's note: Kaylee revealed she has two rescue dogs, one whom was sleeping right next to them during the interview! Kaylee described the dogs as "both complete and total nuts," but said she misses them about five minutes after getting into the car to go to work.]

16. Do you think you’re most similar to Josie, Lizzie, or Hope in real life?

I would say I'm an eclectic mix of the three. I can be very headstrong like Hope, very outspoken like Lizzie, and I try to be as loving as Josie, but sometimes that doesn't always work. But I'd like to think all three.

17. Is there a role people would be surprised to learn you auditioned for, but didn't get?

I've been auditioning since I was eight, so there's quite a few Disney Channel shows and movies. And I'm sure people would be surprised because I think I auditioned for like, all of them. It's very funny, one of the first jobs I ever booked in television was Kickin' It with Leo Howard [Ethan]. Talk about full circle — going from being 12 years old and having no idea what I'm doing to being a series regular on [Legacies] and welcoming Leo to the set.

18. Who's your favorite Disney princess?

Oh, I love Mulan so much. She was, like, my first crush ever. I also love Moana, but it's Mulan 1,000%.

19. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I mean, I do eat rice every day. So maybe just white rice — you can make rice into candy and...yeah, let's go with rice.

20. If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring one book, what would it be?

Oh no! I recently read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, and I really enjoyed that book. Oh god, Is that the one that I want to bring, though? I mean, I really enjoyed it and it has many different aspects to it. I don't know. Or should I go with Harry Potter? I go through different genres too, like right now I'm in a big sci-fi phase, but other times I'll go the opposite direction and only read biographies. Yeah, that's super hard. I don't think I would know!

21. On that note, what's your Hogwarts house?

Initially, when I was younger, it used to just be straight-up Slytherin. And now, I recently took the Sorting Hat Quiz and I got Ravenclaw. So I'm going to go with Slytherclaw.

BuzzFeed: What's Josie's house?

Josie would be Slytherin. She tries very hard and, you know, not everyone in Slytherin is evil. She just, you know, has her way of going about things.

22. Has anything super funny or embarrassing happened to you on set?

I trip a lot on set. I get scared very easily — if I come around the corner and somebody is walking the other direction, I get scared. Everybody knows to walk slowly around me because I get scared so easily.

23. What's your wildest fan story?

I've had people cry before. And I'm an empath, so if somebody starts crying, I immediately am like, "Please don't cry, because I'm gonna cry." And then it turns into this whole thing. Once we were shooting in the town square and this young girl with her mom started crying, and I just hugged her and I didn't know what to say. So there's a lot of that. There's also the occasional, "Where's your twin?" and...I don't have one, sorry! But yeah, I would say the people who cry always throw me for a loop.

24. How do you unwind after a long day?

I have an hourlong drive home from work, so I usually listen to a lot of music. And by the time I get home, taking off all of my makeup is very therapeutic. Because over time, we're working 13-hour days, 16-hour days, and it's just powder constantly building up on my face. So, washing my face is always very therapeutic. And then just laying back and reading a book and petting my dog is the best.

25. Is there a celebrity you get told you look like a lot?

Most recently, Sara Waisglass [from Ginny & Georgia and Degrassi]. We follow each other on social media now and I completely messed up because I don't know how Twitter works at all. I forgot that there's a DMing interaction, so we followed each other and I was like, "Oh, that's nice." And then just recently, I saw that she had messaged me being like, "We're twins! We should be friends!" And I immediately messaged back, "I'm so sorry, let's be friends!"

26. Who's your biggest celebrity crush?

Oh, I have so many. But consistently since I saw Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany. Hands down.

27. Finally, have you ever caught someone watching a TV show or movie that you're in on a flight or anywhere else?

We were all, as a cast, flying to — was it New York Comic Con, or San Diego Comic Con? — one of the Comic Cons. And we were all sitting there and we saw that Legacies was actually on the airplane as an option. And we were all just uncomfortably staring at each other. Yeah, that was surreal.

3x15: A New Hope

The trio is still tripping from the last episode and MG has returned to the Salvatore School (which has more people than I last remember). Kaleb ignores MG when he moves back in and the girls break down their shared hallucination.

Hope: "How do we know your father is here?"

Lizzie: "It's a bar."

When Lizzie knows the password for a specific bar, Hosie wonders how she knows it. Turns out, Lizzie wrote this story when she was 11.

Ric sends MG and Kaleb to bury the Windigo. MG tries to get answers out of Kaleb as to why he hasn't talked to him the whole time he's been back. Jed joins them without MG's permission and he sees how buddy-buddy Jed and Kaleb are.

The trio meets Ethan who is Lizzie's bad boy prince and he gives them an address to find Ric. When they find him, they get taken away. He betrayed them. We find out that Josie had read Lizzie's diary and also knows parts of the story because she wanted to understand Lizzie's feelings.

In the real world, Ric visits Dorian at the hospital. To his surprise, Emma arrives to visit. Apparently, they're married?? I thought they were just dating. She gives him a spiel about his behavior and how people put themselves in danger to get close to him.

Kaleb is mad at MG for telling Ethan about the supernatural and potentially exposing the lot of them. Their argument is interrupted when they notice the buried Windigo isn't buried anymore. They wonder if they buried it wrong, but Kaleb thinks that Ric and Dorian are setting all of them up so that they have to help each other.

Alas! The girls are saved by none other than Summer Fontana - aka season 4 Hope Mikaelson (Marshall). You guys she's so grown! Hope sees the painting that Klaus made in The Originals. It is revealed that Hope overheard Josie telling the other witches about Lizzie's story and they all laughed at Hope being the villain. After Hope had a tantrum, Emma advised her to write her own story where she is the hero. Hope Marshall reveals that what is in the suit of armor is the Hollow. Josie and Lizzie ask what it is since they took it out of her, but were too young to know what was happening. Young Hope thinks that once the Hollow is defeated, her parents will come back and then the three of them (herself, Josie, and Lizzie) could be friends. Hope tells her that the Hollow has already been defeated and she has a new thing she's scared of that she knows how to defeat.

MG tells Kaleb that everything he said was right. They wouldn't have been in the place they are now if he would've just listened to Kaleb. However, Kaleb notices that something is amiss and MG is now the Windigo. At least, that's what it might look like. When Windigo's are weak, they take human form. Jed and MG find Kaleb mid-fight and rescue him.

The fever dream is over! Hope defeated the person in the suit which happens to be Malivore. She confesses that she knows how to defeat him - she has to become a full tribrid.

Jed eating a marshmallow was surprisingly cute. Kaleb confesses that he knows that MG is going to change the world one day. He just thought it would be him by his side and not Ethan. Kaleb confides in MG about Cleo and they mention how MG is over the Alyssa Chang thing. They share a hug and exchange 'I love you's.

Ric tells Emma that what she said was correct and that he'd like the mend their relationship. Dorian remains okay and safe, and Alaric tells her that he's got Dorian's back. Emma decides she'll let Dorian decide how deep he wants to be involved in the supernatural world.

"For once I just wanted to love someone and not lose them." - Hope

Well hello! Clarke is officially back. He is what came out of the pit that Andi created. *screams internally* next week is the season finale! You won't want to miss it.

When did it become clear to you that Hosie was being set up as a ship? And, also, when did you start shipping them?

When Hope admitted she’d had a crush on Josie when they were younger is when it became clear to me. As for when I started shipping them, it was from the first episode, and I’m not just saying that. I’m usually someone who doesn’t jump onto a new ship immediately, I like to wait, but I’m a huge sucker for the childhood friends to lovers trope. It’ll get me every single time and convince me to abandon long-held methods of lowering my expectations.

A lot of little things have led me to believe they’re going in that direction, but I will admit that they are all references to the past. They’ve both mentioned they had a crush on each other when they were younger, but not PRESENTLY, which I think is going to change.

The only outright indication, and no subtext, that one of them may have held on to those feelings is when Josie asked Hope to kiss her when she was unconscious. It seems like an odd thing to request considering she knew it wouldn’t work anyway.

People have been referencing that “non-consensual” kiss thing a lot lately due to the hypocrisy of Landon kissing Hope without her consent while she was unconscious, but I don’t see it the same way as others.

I think the non-consensual kiss excuse was exactly that, an excuse, to not have their first kiss happen while Josie was technically unconscious. Personally, I wouldn’t want their first kiss to happen under that circumstance.

To me, it came across as the writers knowing “kiss her” would be the first thing Hosie shippers thought of during that fairytale setting and needed to come up with some contrived way to stop that from happening.

That would be a truly unnecessary amount of effort to avoid a kiss between two characters if there was no intention of making that kiss happen under different circumstances later on.

We find out later on that the pig who was encouraging the kiss was Josie, showing us that she very much would have consented, but at the time it wasn’t known.

Besides, does anyone actually believe that even if Josie wasn’t standing right next to Hope during that scene, she wouldn’t consent to Hope kissing her to save her life? Come on.

This tells me that they’re saving Josie’s first real kiss with Hope for later when it has more meaning and a bigger impact. They didn’t want to waste it during a one-off scene in a random episode and so they came up with a flimsy excuse.

Whatever your opinions on Julie, she LOVES milking shipping drama for all it’s worth, and she is saving that kiss for later.

What I just talked about is just ONE SCENE that I feel gives strong indications that Hosie is going to happen. One scene that could have been edited out for something different and more meaningful if it meant nothing.

Time is valuable in both movies and television. Scenes are cut out or changed all of the time. It was mentioned more than once by Chyler Leigh that a lot of very significant scenes between Alex and Maggie on Supergirl were edited out, for example.

But for some reason, Julie Plec decided that there NEEDED to be a scene of Josie secretly asking hope to kiss her. There NEEDED to be an alternate reality where Hosie experienced instant attraction. The reason behind the fire NEEDED to be because Josie slipped a note to Hope talking about her feelings. None of those things were necessary, they could have easily been changed, but Julie thought they were NEEDED.

That is very valuable screentime being spent on something that would be an utter waste of time if it went nowhere. It’s leading to somewhere and building up to something, mark my words.
