Landon laughs, a little unhinged, and squeezes Ethan’s wrists. “Come on. You came to kill me, so do it.” 

“You. . .” Ethan shakes his head. “You knew?” 

“Tasted the poison that first night,” he says. “Part of my childhood included building up a base level immunity to a variety of poisons. I imagine you’ve got enough in there to kill me, though.”

“Why?” Ethan asks. 

“Does it matter?” he asks, danger glinting in his eyes. He releases Ethan’s wrists and puts his hands above him, relaxing on his pillows. “Kiss me, kill me, carve my heart out. Your rebels will love you for it. My guards will not arrest you.”

Yet another chance. And he’s not even fighting it. Ethan tightens his grip, tells himself he’ll do it. Clenches his teeth and tosses the knife to the side of the bed. The look of anguish on Landon’s face takes him off guard.

never gonna forget how the writers didnt make stelena end game in season 5. the doppelganger fate thing, the dreams, the feeling that she had, how elena was stefans humanity when he was drowning, the episode where elena took stefan to the school and then they almost kissed like they had me SOBBING.

Penelope strides inside the room. “Oh, we’re not going to be so formal with each other, are we? I mean, we have too much history for that, right?” 

All at once, Lizzie forgets her beauty and remembers the awful things Penelope had said to her all those years ago. She’d wanted to make Lizzie’s life a living hell, and now she’s acting like they’re old friends? 

“What can I do for you, Miss Park?”

“Ouch. Cold,” she says with a smirk. “I just wanted to give you a gift.”

She places the apple on Lizzie’s desk and it feels biblical. The snake in the garden offering temptation, though Lizzie would hardly call herself Eve.

I think in the same way there's a 90/10 rule with horror and comedy (horror works best when it's 90% horror and 10% comedy and vice versa) there's a 90/10 rule for some relationships in fiction that's like. Wholesome and fucked up. A good friendship is at its most compelling when it's also 10% a bit fucked up. Fucked up relationship is at its most compelling when there's at least 10% of something actually sweet and substantive within. Do you get me
