ive had more than 24 hours to think about it now and i am still just absolutely fucking reeling over the pride parade i went to yesterday.
a group of pro-palestine activists have been calling for the city's pride org to divest from Boeing, their biggest sponsor, for at LEAST a month (my very brief research pretty immediately came up w an article from the end of May stating they were going to protest publicly for it; protest isn't usually the first action so i do imagine it's been longer than that.) the city ignored their calls and protests and continued to be sponsored by Boeing and proudly advertise this.
so yesterday at the parade, the activists chained themselves together and blockaded the parade, halting it for over an hour and a half. they had signs declaring "no pride in genocide" and PVC pipes around their linked arms saying things like "free Palestine," "ACAB," and "remember Stonewall."
it was a peaceful protest. no one was hurt (except likely the protestors, once they were arrested, due to being pushed into and dragged on the sidewalk.) it was probably one of the most efficiently peaceful protests; they were blockading a PARADE, so the roads were already blocked off and security/any needed aid would already be close by in the case of an emergency of any kind.
i made my way to the blockade because i wanted to understand what was happening, and because i wanted to be a part of the protest if i could. i stayed behind the parade barricade, but i joined in the chants led by the protestors. i found it to be an incredible moment of solidarity and an amazingly well-executed and passionate protest.
and the majority of the parade attendees seemed upset that the parade was delayed.
they mocked the protestors. they got into our faces while we chanted and tried to yell, or scream, or use high-pitched whistles to drown us out. they were so fucking angry that their parade was delayed.
someone a few feet away from me wouldn't stop screaming "this is america! we don't negotiate with terrorists!" peaceful protestors. terrorists.
and when the arrests started, people cheered. they cheered for the police. they were cheering for the fucking cops. at a pride parade.
the first pride was a riot. i know this is a phrase that's used a lot now and has maybe lost its meaning to some people. but the first pride — the stonewall uprising, the literal reason we have pride parades in june, the reason we have pride month, the reason we were all fucking there — was a goddamn anti-cop violent riot.
and yesterday i stood surrounded by hundreds of queer folk who CHEERED as cops arrested 20 peaceful protestors.
all because their parade was delayed.
i truly am still reeling. i am honored to have been there, and to have chanted and in some way supported the protestors. i am so glad that i found my way to the protest and witnessed what happened firsthand. and i am deeply fucking horrified at the response i saw from the majority of the community around me.
the first pride was a riot. the first pride was a riot. the first pride was an anti-cop, anti-establishment, violent act of uprising against oppression.
a parade is not more important than the funding of a genocide. your convenience is not more important than thousands upon thousands of lives. there is no pride in genocide. if you don't support Palestine, you wouldn't have been at the first pride.

Where can I find Free Palestine protests and Ceasefire protests?
A super international and continually updated list of actions can be found at Samidoun: Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network's:
Tumblr media
Calendar of Resistance for Palestine 2024
They list events by date, then alphabetically by country, then by city - and it's common for them to have dozens of actions listed for a single date, especially on the weekends.
The United States especially often has 40+ events on a single day, especially on the weekends.
Events are posted with links to the event info posted by whoever's hosting the vast majority of the time.
Look blow the read-more for a list of many of the countries that have been on this protest calendar, in alphabetical order, since I know so many websites/lists of actions are country-specific
*Obviously this isn't the only good source of listings for protest events - there are many others. This is by far the biggest/most international roundup I've found, though, so I started with this. If you know another good place for finding ceasefire protests/events, please feel free to add it in the notes, bc I'm planning to put a bigger roundup together once I find enough other sites
Countries that Samidoun has listed/does list protests for include (in alphabetical order):
North America:
United States
Canada
Mexico
Puerto Rico (listed separately in anti-colonial solidarity)
Hawai'i (listed separately in anti-colonial solidarity)
Europe:
Austria
Belgium
Bulgaria
Denmark
England
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Netherlands
Norway
Portugal
Romania
Scotland
Serbia
Spain
Sweden
Switzerland
Wales
SWANA Region (Southwest Asia/North Africa)*:
Bahrain
Iraq
Jordan
Kuwait
Lebanon
Palestine
Tunisia
Turkiye (Turkey)
*Samidoun notes that "We know that these events are mainly international and that the Arab people are marching everywhere for Palestine – we will be honored to add more Arab events whenever we are informed!"
Asia:
Bangladesh
India
Indonesia
Japan
Malaysia
Maldives
Pakistan
South Korea
Africa:
Kenya
Mauritius
Nigeria
South Africa
Tanzania
Tunisia
*Duplicating North African countries (well, Tunisia) here from the SWANA list btw
South America:
Brazil
Colombia
Chile
Peru
Venezuela
Australia and Oceania:
Aotearoa (New Zealand)
Australia

This genocide is the second instance in the last five years that really highlights that the permanent members of the security council should not have a voice if they are involved in an issue
Russia should not be able to veto resolutions on ukraine, America should not be able to veto resolutions on israel
Like Secretary General Guterres said in the meeting; “the eyes of the world and the eyes of history are upon us”
The American exceptionalism propaganda is failing and rotting, I will never forgive nor forget the country who didn’t listen to the world and it’s own people begging it to stop funding extermination, not in a million years

Ok so based on the most recent info...we can all agree that all Joost did was stick up a middle finger at a someone who was filming him without his permission, right? We can all agree that it was extremely manipulative to imply what he did was way worse by describing it as "threatening a female member of staff" and just letting it just hang in the air, effectively making it sound as if he had (sexually) assaulted a woman, right?

update on donations for fics!
Amani has reached her goal (hooray!) but Renad is still a ways away from her own goal. in addition to Renad, i will now be spotlighting Waffaa's campaign. here are some updates on their campaigns:
Renad is a 24 year old midwife in Gaza and is trying to help her family of 7 escape the genocide, and for Renad to continue her education in Egypt. as of June 24th, 2024, Renad has raised £15,077 of £25,000
Waffaa is a 42 year old mother trying to evacuate her trapped family in Gaza. her niece has just died due to the terrible conditions they are living in. Waffaa needs enough money to evacuate her children and grandchildren. as of June 24th, 2024, Wafaa has raised €14,429 of €50,000
as per my last donations for fics post, if you send me proof of donation, i will happily write a ficlet or full length fic for you. donations ranging from 5-10 dollars (or whatever currency you donate in) will get you a ficlet like this. donations of 25-50 dollars will get you a full length fic, ranging from 2k-4k words, such as this. donation amount and fic length can be discussed once proof of donation has been sent. i have no restrictions on what i will write, but please ask me for clarification, as i reserve the right to say no

it just really breaks my heart that most of the discourse has to focus on dying children in order to humanize palestinians as if fully grown adult human beings don’t also deserve your attention, empathy, respect, and care

I was just made aware of this petition for Kamala Harris to agree to back a ceasefire and arms embargo regarding the Israel/Palestine conflict. The petition has already reached its goal for signatures, but more can't hurt!

aaron stated his pronouns were he/him to jounalists and news outlets before his self-immolation. speculating someone else's gender, especially after his death is disrespectful and not your business. even if he went by lilly and used other pronouns, you are essentially trying to out him and disrespecting his wishes. maybe you should do as aaron asked and keep your focus on palestine instead of sending hate to a black trans person on here
im not sending hate to this person, i havent even interacted with him unless those anons were sent by him. i continue to use he/him for aaron bushnell, as per his last public communications, because as per the original post this is about, this is all speculation. i appreciate you coming to me off anon to tell me this, but i want you to think about whether this discussion is genuinely harmful to aaron bushnell's legacy or the palestinian freedom movement as a whole, whether it is just uncomfortable or in poor taste, and most importantly whether it warranted the widespread backlash against trans women on this website that it elicited.

some people have been side-eyeing me on my phrasing in the post where I share the news about the burning ballots, so i just want to apologise - i'm not trying to feed into conspiracy thinking by using the word "they", I just assumed what political affiliation the perpetrator likely belonged to considering these acts of arson occured in largely blue-majority states and my kneejerk response to republicans is open derision. at this point, its probably too late to edit the wording on the original post, but i just wanted to say it here.
as of right now, there's an article that says a man has been taken into custody who confessed to doing it, and said it was not politically motivated but simply done to get arrested, which is up to you whether to believe or not. but the article is also from an Australian publication with no other outlets saying this, so idk i'm still dubious on it.
anyway to reiterate:
(Washington voters) can confirm your ballot was received on: vote.wa.gov (Oregon voters) can confirm your ballot was received on: sos.oregon.gov General Ballot tracker: voteamerica.org/ballot-tracker
and if you're feeling especially doompost-y, consider turning that energy towards a more productive goal and promote/donate to one of the fundraisers on this list.

Kinda wild how ordinary people all around the world are frantically donating every cent they can spare to save people the entire Western establishment is trying to massacre in broad daylight, half of them with their own taxes while throwing them in jail for protesting it. "Preventing the rise of fascism" my siblings in Christ you are already in fascism.
