Thank you for standing up for people who write/read dark fics. I personally read CNC because it helps me work through my traumas. Some people don’t realize it becomes a coping mechanism, and it’s honestly a really shitty feeling seeing so many people kink shame and the like on here :/

mwah, i'm always on ur side babie !! i just don't think fiction is that serious at the end of the day. the dark genre has always existed and i truly believe anyone should be allowed to express themselves as they please. writing is a perfectly normal and fine outlet for coping.

when i was a child i was in an abusive household and i actually started writing because i discovered it felt really good to write all these dark thoughts down into a fantasy universe that i could curate and control. i used to have notebooks filled with it, im talkin like i was 10, 11, 12 years old writing it. and as i got older i brought it up to a therapist i had been seeing and i said like hey ive got these notebooks and i write some pretty fucked up dark shit in them is that like ??? normal??? why do i like doing that??? and she told me that exploring trauma thru fiction is a great outlet, it's in a controlled, safe format and no one is getting hurt. if it makes you feel good and helps you work through your emotions and your feelings and makes things feel less bad then that's all that matters. she wasn't in any way going to dissuade me from using these topics as 'fantasy' because it was good for me!!!

and i stand by that, i truly believe that if darkfic helps you feel better and you enjoy it and it doesn't harm you...then do it. don't listen to people who have no idea what your experiences are, how you feel, or what you need. only you can dictate that, not people who just think it's "icky" or that you need to be "fixed" because you're a "degenerate/freak" because it's not true. you're just human, working thru things in a human way!!! i discovered darkfic completely on my own 0 internet 0 books i just opened a notebook and started writing and i filled NUMEROUS notebooks with it (i'm pretty sure i still have them LMAO) !!! all on my own as a child!!! and i'm in my 20s now and i can confidently say i have not been harmed by my own coping.

so !!!! i am always on ur side, my love. even if others aren't, i know you're just doing the best you can and coping in a perfect fine, normal way!! <3 MWAH

psychological fun fact: if you praise someone for an achievement or a finished task, refer to the effort they put in instead of to the traits of them as a person. meaning instead of saying "wow, you're so smart", say "wow, you must have worked hard"

this is especially important with kids because it influences how they stay motivated. if they receive praise for their efforts they're more eager to try and make errors on their way to learning while kids who are told they are smart assume that making errors and needing to put in more effort could mean they aren't as smart as they were told. so they react with fear and perform worse overall

DMMD - Koujaku Route

My thots :)

To begin:

Character Design and first impressions: I LOVE Koujaku's character design- he's HOT. He's honestly so my type- a perfect blend of pretty and strongly masculine. His reputation as a ladykiller makes sense- honestly, his swag was so strong, it made me wonder if DMMD was made by a woman, lol. The game wrote him perfectly I feel like- he defintiley gave that strong impression of his authority as a gang leader, while also showcasing that side of him that is vulnerable and careful in his personal life. It was a very realistic portrayal of what he was meant to be.

First impression in hindsight to Aoba's POV: At first, I didn't understand why Aoba was honestly so weird about being around Koujaku. The fact that he would try to skeddadle at the sight of him, or would be so STRESSED having to talk to him-- I thought that might have been weirdly uncharacteristic. However, I couldn't be further from wrong. Aoba's reactions weren't THAT extreme, and were honestly kind of relateable (which is why I love aoba as a character so much) given the circumstances. This is his childhood best friend we're talking about- someone he shared a CLOSE tie to his whole childhood, he lost contact from him for a time period, and dude comes back to be a total hottie with the ladies AND a gang leader. Like, I wouldn't know how to act around him either LOL. I feel like sometimes when you have an extensive history with someone, relearning how to be around them after you have both changed is SO weird. It's not that Aoba didn't like him or hated him all of a sudden, he just needed a push to not resist that change. Obviously spending more time with each other, when choosing Koujaku's route, will easily help. Also, if you notice, Aoba mainly feels so resistant when Koujaku is out in public, around the ladies-- this is just an awkward situation for anyone.

Koujaku route scenes:

His scenes are SO realistic and honestly wholesome. He has a very positive bearing on his attitude, and playing his route realistically feels like someone id date.....except for *that* scene lol. The one problematic scene in the main storyline was a bit shocking for me, considering it wasn't even a bad ending or anything like that. It's kinda wild how aoba just KEEPS IT MOVIN after experiencing the most traumatic things in his entire life LOL. The way they wrapped up that scene and bounced back from it was well enough for me, considering I love everything else about his route :3

Character design:

Koujaku was one of the characters that strongly catched my eye, which got me interested in the DMMD series in the first place. He's very attractive, and i'm also biased because I like dark hair and tattoos lol. The way he smiles too is attractive as well- I love a fun upbeat type character!

Is he my FAV OTP?

NO! He's soooo close tho. Ideally, I want him, aoba, and ren to be in a threeway relationship ;w;!

Oh it's Dew for sure to me.

He's always characterized as either a) a complete asshole with no regard for others or b) the whiniest, most pathetic little thing that cries at the drop of a hat. To me it seems like most people characterize him as younger than the other ghouls. Maybe not consciously, but it sure reads that way a lot of the time. Like he's completely emotionally immature and only capable of having a single personality trait (see above).

Like. Has no one seen how soft he can be on stage? I get that he had his little tiffs with Aether and sometimes chokes Rain, but for the most part he's such a softie. He plays with Swiss and dances when Nihil's casket gets brought out. He teases the crowd and clearly has fun with it. He has a whole personality!!

It's unfair to pigeonhole him as "the aggressive one", and I honestly don't know where the idea of him being a pathetic little crybaby came from, but it bothers me to no end every time I see him cry the second someone so much as kisses his neck or something.

but yes. reigning opinion seems to be that the babyfied version of dew is overwritten and very 2D. as well as the 'will burn your eyebrows at the drop of a pin' dew. ive touched on these things a little already.

but. dew is the fandom favorite, id say. the one everyone loooves to throw trauma onto. he is the very definition of 'put that guy in a situation'. he is very commonly written as the focus of many fics, whatever the genre. and to me, its so interesting that so many of us dont like these common headcanons, and do go out of our way to write our own versions, yet these things still stay the overarching theme. why is that? rhetorical question, really, but i do think the 'over emotional' idea of dew is very prevalent.

and, like ive said previously, i think he's much more stoic than that. he def shows some emotion. like cirrus, hes not a robot or anything. we see that on stage, of course, with the bits and what not. i think he knows when to joke, when to offer a hug, or when to get fired up about something (excuse the pun)

but i dont think hes going around lighting shit on fire cause something minor happened. do i think hed do that in certain circumstances? yeah absolutely. especially if youre of the belief that this ghoul has gone through some shit. has seen death and treason and went through an entire shift of all the atoms in his fucking body.

but hes strong, resilient. as well as soft and caring. to me, this is a ghoul that listens, that cares so fucking deeply. but he's calm about most things. observant. and a little frisky when he feels up for it.

and river, yes, he's so protective. like i said, most of us think hes seen some shit. so why wouldnt he be more level headed, stronger mentally, because hes seen what being reactive can do to a ghoul

and i really like your take on the different elements hes had and how that transfers to his personality. because there are so many nuances in elements in general! and i even have different ideas to how he acted as a newly summoned water ghoul verses a more 'seasoned' one. and some dont even believe he changed elements at all! but i agree, i dont think hes some shy little pretty water ghoul and nothing more. that boy had sass even back then, maybe even more so. but to me, he's always been that stoic and thoughtful ghoul that i do my best to write him as haha. there are far better writers of dew than i, but i for sure agree with y'all that there's things he isnt.

- jester: absolutely decides shes esseks new bff (shes not wrong). does in fact offer to peg essek, but not the first time they meet she has manners caleb!! (its the second time they meet, and even tho essek expects it he still chokes on his spit and how forward she is). shes also incredibly nosey about esseks health, given she is in the medical field directly herself, which essek both hates and finds refreshing (its so much easier to explain his health to someone who has the bg knowledge)

- veth: immediately shovel talks essek, then basically adopts him when essek gets all prim and proper and politely mean "id like to see you try" and veth is like okay youve got teeth you can protect my boy too im counting on you heres a toddler (luc is delighted by esseks ability to make things float and essek is delighted by the fond looks he gets from caleb over veths shoulder)

- fjord: dubious at first but warms up to essek when essek relaxes enough to join razzing caleb. definitely warns essek about the impending pegging offer from jester, promises to distract her if shes overwhelming

- caduceus: is the one to spot essek flagging at the neins holiday party, sits with essek as caleb is distracted catching up with the rest of his friends as quiet company "its good to see him happy"

im a little late to the 3d discourse but id like to share my opinion on it

i personally liked it, the beat and the lyrics were great, the song is catchy and it gives justin timberlake vibes which i love. i love how jk is exploring himself as an artist and is comfortable showing different sides of him. i read the message of another anon saying that he'd been infantilized and sexualized for the majority of his career, and he's finally taking back the power and creating his own image rather than conforming to whatever box fans or the public want to trap him in. i think that's very empowering and i'm very proud of him for this.

what i had a problem with was jack harlows's verse. not only his part disrupted the flow of the song, the lyrics were also terrible and misogynistic. it's 2023, you can write a verse without degrading women, calling them thots, bashing on monogamy and lining up girls in the music video as if they were dolls to play with. if your artistry depends on all this, then you're not a great artist you're just a fucking misogynist (yes i'm insulting him as an artist, i don't care for his fans, yall can do better). it still surprises me how hybe let this pass this easily, the lyrics of jack's part could've been regulated a bit more. misogynistic lines aside, his rap and flow wasn't that great, he seemed bored and not trying hard enough for the song, and he didn't fit the vibe of the song. I agree that the song needed a rap verse to make it complete, but it could've been any other artist or the lyrics could've been less disgusting. some ppl might say i'm being sensitive or can't handle explicit stuff- there's a difference between singing explicitly and downright degrading women in a song. you can sing about sex and all that without objectifying women (take a look at seven, it was much more explicit and direct and it was very fun and respectful). even jk's parts in 3d were fun and respectful, so jack's part doesn't fit that vibe at all. even the music video was great, everyone's dancing and having fun, until jack's part came and they started lining up girls like toys.

yes everyone has the right to their own opinion, but we should use some critical thinking and basic empathy when it comes to matters like misogyny (which is a huge problem hello, we live in a patriarchy that's been stepping on women's necks since forever). whoever liked jack's part or that type of music in general, great i hope you enjoy the song, however i hope yall also reflect on it, bc subconsciously this type of media affects ppls thoughts and beliefs, and it feeds misogyny and even internalized misogyny. its 2023, we can do better than this, there's plenty of other artists and songs about sex and intimacy and fun times that don't contain misogynistic ideas (you can start with any women artists and go from there). now that i got this out of my chest, i'm gonna pretend the original version doesn't exist and continue listening to the alternate version without jack's part.

@bgs-cave-o-thots submitted: Hi! This isn't an ID request, I just wanted to talk about a bug phenomenon that happens near where I live. I remember being shocked when I was younger and learned that this doesn't happen everywhere, and I think that's what gave me a fascination for these bugs instead of only seeing them as a nuisance.

I've no clue what the scientific name is, but I see them called the Klamath Midge after where they're primarily found (Klamath County, Oregon). They're small, bright green, non-biting midges, and when they're in season they make dense swarms that can be the size of city blocks. People have to sweep them off windowsills and porches every morning or they'll pile up, because they only live for I think a couple days. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of my own to demonstrate the sheer amount of the lil guys there are, but if you google "klamath midge" there's plenty of images that give you an idea.

I also have a question about these midges that I was wondering if you or your followers might be able to answer. I've lived with these things coming out every year for most of my life but no one I've ever asked knew the answer for sure: what do these guys eat? Or do they even eat as adults at all??

Hello! Klamath midges are non-biting midges in the genus Chironomus. Sounds like utahensis is the exact species. Midge larvae are aquatic and feed on algae and other organic detritus. The adults were once thought not to eat at all, but apparently newer research says they feed sparingly on things like nectar, pollen, and honeydew. But you're right, they only live a couple of days! Just long enough to mate.

I couldn't find any creative commons photos of the swarms to share, but I do think it's worth googling for those who are curious! That's a lot of bugs.
