I would like to make it abundantly clear that I am vehemently anti tankie, and if you genuinely have your head up putin or the ccps ass I want you to sit down and think about the millions, including the Ukrainians and uyghurs that have died at the hands of authoritarian communism
That being said, today's ramble is that as much as part of me buys into the public image of Jimmy carter as a gentleman president, and I can't deny that he has dedicated his entire post presidency to humanitarian efforts, as a turk and middle easterner, I don't think I can ever forgive him for operation cyclone (the us-soviet war in Afghanistan). I've made no secret of the fact that I consider the ussr to have been a fundamentally imperialist project, but looking at the former ussr countries, and looking at Afghanistan, the former ussr citizens are genuinely better off. For all of authoritarian communism's litany of faults and atrocities, of which there are so fucking many, there is an incredibly warped concept of egalitarianism in there, which fundamentally doesn't exist in islamist nations. In conclusion I am having a weird day and I have middle eastern survivor's guilt, which wasn't news but w/e
#personal#afghanistan#ussr#just to be clear i am a british turkish leftist muslim#and this is not the place to be racist of islamophobic#i support state secularism with freedom of religion in all countries

i have got to emphasise on the fact that this is huge actually- gay rights in football is something that's just barely discussed. during the world cup in qatar, captains were banned from wearing a one love captain's band because it was too political (it was just a band with a rainbow heart on it), homophobia and racism is practically rooted in the songs sung during matches and there are no out players in the premier league, or more generally, there is only one (1) out player in the top leagues. having a character simply just,, be with another man and also a footballer in the premier league is a huge statement and will hopefully aid in trying to make football a better space.
#i listened to a podcast about why there are no out players in sports last year#and the conclusion was that it had to do with a lot of different factors#among them: the fans#take for example in the netherlands there's a hooligan group that roots for feyenoord. they threatened a fellow supporter who -#- started a supporter's group for lgbt+ fans. and also tried to light the man's place of business on fire#and in an away game to (albania i wanna say??) they brought banners that said they wanted him to die of hiv#mind you this is a FELLOW SUPPORTER#for the same club#and the songs supporters sing are a hell of a lot less tame than in ted lasso#homophobic racist antisemetic or islamophobic chants are just regular business in football matches#and in addition to that: locker room culture!#locker room culture in football and many other sports (with the men mostly) is toxic as hell!#there have been some efforts to try and nip this in the bud with trainings and seminars on diversity being given at youth clubs#but it's an issue in society as a whole that a lot of young men are just homophobic as FUCK#and i mean having a character on an acclaimed and popular show on tv/streaming right now could have a huge impact#esp on all the young ppl who'll see this thru fk tiktok and whatnot#im just really excited for what this will bring. and i hope it might do some good in football as a whole#ted lasso#colin hughes#ted lasso season 3

Local politics-ish rant in the tags
#after 15 years of right wing politics that has been very vocal and hateful about the province's request to build a mosque in town#the new mayor and her group said okay enough bullshit. the city has been literally wasting money trying to stop the building until now#but MY GOD the population is full of old people scared of the ''bad dangerous muslim nooooo they're invading our city!1!!!!''#the discussions on facebook are an absolute SHITSHOW#of people being completely islamophobic as if the mosque will 100% make people blow up the city and i'm not joking#fun fact: the muslim community has been here for years and no one did anything problematic but#they had to pray in potentially dangerous and uncontrolled places with no safety measures or hygiene. that's just awful.#i'm so tired of those comments from total asshole racist boomers#end of the rant

sometimes i think about the fact that i said that starting a religion based on "being the chosen people" is just racism/racial supremacy with a spiritual lens and i had several anons tell me i was being "antisemitic" lmao idk it makes me giggle a lot 😅
#personal#religion#i didnt mention a specific religion because several of them have this belief system in place#if u see a general post and ur offended on behalf of your specific religion take it up with ur religious community not me#also like way to not address the point ????? thinking ur religion makes u superior to every other group of humans IS racist#call it antisemitic or islamophobic or antichristian all u want#doesnt change the fact that your religion holds very racist ideas#especially when there is a before time for EVERY single religion ever

I don't know if your post about racism was also about world cup and if people should support Argentina or not but argertines racism is truly the worst, if wasn't for that they would have their biggest rival supporting them in this final
No offence, but that’s just such an odd way of thinking.
As a Black Muslim woman, there’s no such thing as better or worst type of racism. Racism is racism, all forms of it are bad to me.
So it’s just strange that now people are trying to make it seem like there’s a ranking for which country’s racism is worst than the other. That just doesn’t make any sense and it’s also completely useless if you want to fight against racism.
And furthermore, many football fans are inherently racist - we know that. Deciding which teams you are going to support by whether a country’s fan base is racist is a losing battle - you can find racist fans for ANY country.
#maybe it’s because in some racist and islamophobic countries they have players who are Muslim or have familial origins in other places -#that it tricks you into thinking those countries are better than others#like France Germany and England have disgusting racism despite most of their players having diverse backgrounds#even the lovely Morocco that we’ve been supporting - like all North African nations - its normal to refer to Black people as slaves/servants#and even Brazil……Do not get me started in Brazil#to conclude what I’m trying to say is - if you focus on things like racism in football - you could find problems with every club/nation#but ranking which is more racist than the other is nonsensical

#i'm probably not the person to be laughing at islamophobia considering I'm not muslim#and this is just online so there's enough distance to not be scary#but islamophobes don't care whether or not you are muslim in the first place#you kinda get used to being called a terrorist supporter and ISIS bride is the thing#and you start to find some of it really funny#like it's endlessly funny how Zionists keep seeing Hamas in their street‚ their cereal bowl and cat's litter box#and the Hamas=ISIS has always been amusing because IS hates Hamas#''do you condemn Ham—?'' ISIS: ''SO GLAD YOU ASKED FUCK THOSE GUYS—''#i was prepared for the natural evolution of Hamas=ISIS=Taliban#again hilarious to anyone who sees the Middle East as other than Terrorist Blob#ISIS and Taliban are currently too busy fighting each other like cats to bother anybody else#but yday a friend of mine got a message calling her a ''racist Hamas Boko Haram terrorist''#BOKO HARAM#how tf is BOKO HARAM going to#THAT'S ON THE OTHER SIDE OF AFRICA#I'm just. dyyiiinngg#💀💀💀#man I wish us non-Muslims could get the online Islamphobic bile. not only does it not hurt us it's also mostly hysterical#knee of huss

Between April 25 and May 2, UCLA experienced the worst episode of both anti-Semitic and anti-Palestinian/Islamophobic/racist violence in the university’s century-long history. White nationalists and neo-Nazis joined forces with Zionists (including some saying they were Israelis) to attack UCLA’s Palestine Solidarity Encampment, whose residents included a large number of Jewish students. The assailants were not affiliated with the university. One neo-Nazi was heard shouting, “we’re here to finish what Hitler started,” without any apparent protest from the self-identified Zionists. At least one person present has been identified as an associate of the Proud Boys. Using metal pipes, wooden planks, fists, knives, bricks, noise, chemical weapons, and incendiary fireworks, the mob sent at least twenty-five students to the hospital for broken bones, head trauma, and severe lacerations, while police stood by and watched for hours, electing to neither detain nor interrogate the perpetrators. No arrests took place that night. The following day, only students and faculty defending the encampment were arrested.

i saw someone point out the frequency with which liberals back social justice movements... how, for instance, when ferguson happened under obama it was not popular and there were many, many liberals who found the blm movement, in a sense, "in violation of [liberal] sensibilities" (when liberalism as a rule does not challenge the status quo, only maintains it and sees any call for revolution or real change as disruptive or 'bad for optics' and therefore not acceptable) but then when trump became president and he opposed blm a lot more liberals decided that the blm movement had merit because they viewed it from a team-sports perspective rather than a worldview based on morals and an understanding of the systems in place in the U.S. - that it was more comfortable for them to operate from a "trump bad" basis rather than "the american justice system and the police are inherently white supremacist, which are inherently, automatically, and always violent"
+ that, if trump was president while israel is carrying out its genocide, liberals would have NO problem denouncing israel and demanding for a ceasefire because they're comfortable operating from the 2-party system basis, NOT from a framework based on material conditions or factors or any acknowledgement or analysis of imperialism, colonialism, or capitalism. but because biden is a democrat, and democrats are supposed to be "the decent party" "the lesser evil" "more respectable" when, in functionality - in real practice, they don't want to disrupt the status quo. (internally, maintaining systems of white supremacy and capitalism; externally, furthering U.S. imperialism by maintaining hegemony and continuing the practice of exploitation and extraction of labor+capital+resources from the global south)
which is why we're here, a month into a genocide, and liberals are so cowardly and gutless that, in the face of our democrat president allowing and funding the genocide of palestinians in order for the U.S. to maintain its military base in the middle east, liberals IMMEDIATELY jump to "well, you HAVE to vote for him still, because trump will be worse!" and go "well im powerless there's nothing i can do", immediately folding like a wet paper bag in the face of the american empire rearing its ugly head in the most blatant, naked way in years, instead of thinking "this is unacceptable, i should pressure my elected officials and do everything i can - be it combating propaganda, contacting my congresspeople or senators, protesting, or engaging in direct action - to ensure this stops as quickly as possible".
there are liberals STILL IN MY NOTIFICATIONS who go "well you'll be electing a fascist if you vote for trump" not realizing that YOU CAN'T SIMPLY VOTE FASCISM AWAY. (which is not to say you should vote for republicans; that's not what i'm saying. none of us have said it.) we're pretty much already there. it's 2003 all over again, with the patriot act and all. the american war machine is pumping out racist, orientalist, pro-colonial, pro-genocide propaganda on behalf of the ethno-state america and its allies have backed since the so-called state's inception. people are being doxxed, fired, harassed, and attacked for visibly supporting palestine/opposing israel. islamophobic hate crimes are on the rise; a 6 year old boy was murdered not one month ago, an arab doctor in texas was stabbed to death. antisemitism is on the rise as well, thanks to the conflation of antisemitism with anti-zionism (which nazis have and will attempt to co-op in order to 'justify' + then act on their antisemitism, racism, and genocidal worldviews). our government is silencing people, brutalizing protestors, and arming and funding an ethno-state committing genocide - everything that would have been called fascist if it was under trump. but because it's a *democrat* liberals place "vote blue no matter who" and "optics" over the extremely basic moral stance that "genocide is wrong and people have the right to self-determination, autonomy, and life". arabs and muslims are already so dehumanized in the west that liberals (whether they consider themselves liberals or not) consider it an inconvenience to talk about the ongoing genocide that is happening with the blessing of OUR government. in this they expose their selfishness, the shallowness of their morals, their chauvinism, and their racism/orientalism/islamophobia/et cetera.
for example, if you see israeli troops waving a gay pride flag and the israeli state touting its support of gay people while said iof soldiers are murdering men, women, and children en masse every single day and you somehow????? think that because gay people are the ones doing the killing or a state claims to support gay people is doing the killing is ok then 1) you have fallen for pinkwashing propaganda and 2) that you find the murder of palestinians, or any people, permissible by a colonial force that uses causes liberals may genuinely care about in order to disguise, whitewash, or "lessen" the severity of the injustices it does unto usually black and brown people outside of the U.S., then you are just as bloodthirsty and depraved as anyone you would personally assign those descriptors of.
once again, it goes back to resorting to a team-sport understanding of the world rather than approaching it from a material one.
#uspol#another mini-essay directed specifically at usamerican liberals.#pre-emptively blaming left-wing people or arabs or muslims for the inevitable loss of joe biden#instead of the fact that biden IS SUPPORTING GENOCIDE and also has been. generally a failure within the US as well.#like bitch look around you! look at the state things are in! AND A DEMOCRAT IS PRESIDENT!!!#📁.zip

Zionism in TLOU2
I just was talking to my friend about this and I'm sure plenty of people have explained it already but it's just so insane to me that the Seraphites are really meant to represent Palestinians IRL and Neil just thought "Yup, people will believe this".
Before I knew anything about the conflict, when I was playing the game I was just like "Well duh, anyone would be ready to fight tooth and nail against a group that broke a peace treaty and started gutting/hanging their people" but when I realized what it was supposed to represent I just found it a bit funny? Not funny "haha" but funny weird in the way that he tried to make it so that the actions of Israel (the WLF) are justified through his inaccurate, racist, and Islamophobic, representation of Palestinians (Seraphites). And honestly, even the WLF's actions against the Seraphites are still very much not excused in the fictional context of the game, because there is never a reason to gun down children.
There's so much more I could rant about on this topic, but for now, I will just say: Don't buy anything from Naughty Dog. Don't watch the show, and if you must for some reason - become a pirate. Neil Drunkman has donated the money he makes from these games to Israel's genocide before. The strike may end on the 25th but do not stop talking about Palestine. Pay attention so that you are aware of when the next strike takes place. Don't forget, don't ignore.
Also, let this be a reminder that while you may enjoy certain media, and while that's fine, you have to be critical of the media you consume to be sure that you aren't getting caught up in propaganda.
WAYS YOU CAN HELP!!!!
For anyone wanting a better deep dive (and for those saying that its just a "cynical take") please refer to this post and read it thoroughly^^^

Resources for non-malicious Batfanon blogs that're genuinely confused on what to watch/read/play
Bruce:The Batman 2022
Dick:Teen Titans 1966,New Teen Titans,The Titans and Outsiders 2003
Tim:Lonely Place of Dying,Robin 1993,Young Justice 1998 and Red Robin
Cass:No Man's Land,Batgirl 2000 and Shadow of The Batgirl
Damian:Son of Batman 2015,Streets of Gotham,Supersons,Gotham Academy(only gueststars but features his 1st civillian friend),Robin 2021 and Batman and Robin 2023
And i made my own complete manual for Jason which includes reading lists for Duke and Stephanie by other users
Here is pre-Morrison Talia, aka the only Talia as Morrison is a raging islamophobe
And Selina by @pyrocortex who's as dedicated to her as i am Jason(platonically that is)
When i say 'non-malicious',i mean Batfam fans who've been lied to about canon to rope them into perpetuating the mass and inherent bigotry in Batfanon and placated into fence sitters by old whites that don't understand Batman lore any better than your average fake geek guy.Bruce has 6 canon kids and isn't a serial adopter but an adopter of abused or orphaned kids only,Dick has Eldest Daughter Syndrome but actually(as stated by me and a friend)and includes tgirl swag,Tim isn't a white male power fantasy and that includes not one for white racist gays either,Cass was invented specifically to DEFY easian woman stereotypes,Damian is only a monster if you hate brown people,Jason is quite literally the other way around of everything Batfanon says of him,Stephanie is audhd bpd-coded and should be black based on personality alone,Duke is a 2000s cartoon protagonist that only gets ignored because he's black and Talia and Selina are way more than your 'haha Bruce is gay' joke, trust
Oh also,'Batman and Robin are slang for gay' isn't a thing actual comics writers did.It was purely spectulation specifically on ADULT Batman fans' part and Devin Grayson who is frequently cited on why Batcest is canon and therefore good has apologized for her Nightwing runs and said it was a bad coping mechanism on her part.Worth noting the Batrobin rumors were created at a time when they had to take out Batcat from the Adam West Batman show due to recasting Selina as Eartha Kitt and the segregation laws that were a thing back then.So take that as you will in how it reflects the mentality at the time, including regarding children's rights as child abuse was even more extreme due to it being 'normal' and 'justifiable' due to 'history'.Holy decontextualization,Batfans!!!

In response to the truly appalling murder of three little girls and the attempted murder of several other children in Southport by a 17 year old last week, it didn't take long at all for racist arseholes on social media to spread total bollocks about the attacker being an immigrant and Muslim (he was born in Wales and is from a deeply religious Christian family and was a choir boy as it turns out).
Naturally, this whipped the brain dead who believe that some sort of secret Muslim takeover of the country is occurring into a violent frenzy, and there have been riots and "protests" outside mosques up and down the country, led by the charming individuals of the EDL, one just half an hour away from where I live.
To be clear, these people don't actually give a flying fuck about these children or their families or their traumatised community. Like all extremists, they use real human suffering as an excuse to behave in the most abhorrently violent manner against innocent people.
The EDL, for my non UK friends, is an extremist Islamophobic, white supremacist organisation and there has been talks at the highest level of government to officially proscribe it as a terrorist group:
There is light in the dark though. After the riot in Southport, the local community came together to repair damage to the local mosque.
Violent extremists will never represent or care about the communities they purport to. As it always is, it is ordinary people coming together in solidarity and with love that represent the best of what we can be and the festering pustules of the EDL give a shit about nothing and no one but their hatred.
Editing to include a link to a fundraiser for the families of the children and the community in Southport:

In a weird way, as a Jew, I can kinda take Normal Antisemitism™️.
I mean, I understand where right-wing racists are coming from when it comes to their antisemitism. At the end of the day, theirs just comes from fear, replacement theory, etc… It’s easily identifiable. 2+2=4. Yea its shitty, but I see how they got from A to B and it’s a straight line.
But left-wing antisemitism?? Like, how does that happen? I thought the left was about supporting minority groups, encouraging them to speak and be heard. But all I’m seeing from leftists these days (I myself being super fucking liberal, left, etc…) is just waves and waves of antisemitism. And yes it has to do with Israel, but these people are incapable of criticizing the Israeli government without going “all Jews are responsible!” in the process. It's infuriating.
Are all the the world’s Jews, millions of which live OUTSIDE of Israel, now responsible for Israel’s actions? I'M a stupid American! I’ve never even BEEN to Israel, much less know the intricate details of a geo-political conflict whose complexities go willfully unlearned by armchair activists in favor of yelling in all caps for 140 characters.
But what really gets me, and I mean REALLY get me about the whole situation, is the hypocrisy.
Remember how awful it was when we saw waves of Islamophobic hate crimes after 9/11, American Muslims with no ties to al-Qaeda being targeted for the faith those terrorists claimed to represent?
Or do you remember standing against the wave of anti-Asian hate crimes that was spurned on by COVID falsehoods? The “China virus” as Trump so eloquently put it? You remember being pissed about that, not blaming Asian Americans but standing with them against hate?
And hell, I’ve heard there has been a rash of Islamophobic attacks again because of the Israeli-Gaza conflict. That’s fucking awful, and I will stand against that bull shit because it does not belong here, end of story.
But now there are also antisemitic attacks, hate crimes, being perpetrated around the world. And who are the perpetrators now? The left that stood against everything else. There's no widespread ally-ship for Jews like me. There's no sweeping social media campaign, no catchy hashtag, no ice bucket challenge.
Why am I allowed to be condemned for what a country on the other side of the world is doing, when I have nothing to do with it? Why can I have the finger pointed at me when I don’t want the fighting in the first place? Why must Jews be allowed to be the target of this ire when it's already been decided that other ethnicities/religions don't deserve it either?
Now, I am PROUD to be Jewish; it is my culture, in my heritage, in my literal blood. It is in my genetics, my bones, my spoken language, it is in the holidays I celebrate, the philosophies I live by.
But it is also in the generational trauma of my mother insisting I have a passport as a young child, not because we were traveling, but in case we had to flee. It is in her inherent distrust of the government; a card-carrying Democrat all her life, she would always remind me, "if you don't think the government can't turn on you, you're kidding yourself." It is her constant reminders that as a Jew, our assimilation is conditional, our acceptance is political. I felt these, but never as strongly as she did. Not until now.
I am third generation American, and yet I feel like an outsider in the only country I have ever known. People who I thought understood, who were my friends, who marched with me against the injustices of the world, are now calling after Jews to answer for Israel's actions.
I say I don't want the violence to persist and I'm told that I'm, "one of the good ones". I'm told hurt Israelis don't deserve sympathy because, "all Jews are rich anyway, right? Who cares." I tell them my fears about the rising antisemitism and wearing my star of david necklace out. I'm told, "it doesn't matter, you're white anyway."
For the first time in my life, the racists aren't just some crazy KKK members. They're not just Nazis marching around with beer bellies and ill fitting helmets. It's not just some screeching street preacher who claims I'm going to hell after he caught the glint off my star of david necklace. If needs be, I can kick and punch my way out of those. They're just idiots. Isolated, concentrated incidents. It'd be a good story to tell at a bar the next day though a gap-toothed smile and a sling on my shoulder.
But now, both sides are coming after me and my people. Now, it's not just idiots who have all of their views backwards; it's people I thought I could trust to have my back, to go down swinging with me against those Nazis. Right. Left. It's everywhere. There's no escape.
It's coming from all sides. It's coming from social media platforms, from dinners with friends, from posters on street lamps.
I live in one of the safest, most Jewish neighborhoods in America, and for the first time in my life I am truly scared.
#jumblr#antisemitism#judaism#jewish#I'm just so tired of it all#I wasn't an anxious person before this#racism#long post I guess#can we go back to the days of punching Nazis?#life was simple
