I'm never going to be able to work on Orice in this state. Let's talk about Jack Seward. I have so much. Soooo so much to say about him.

Warning: I am going to be looking at Jack and his motives and attitudes, and I am going to be treating him like any ol' guy that you could find in the world. I'm not gonna take "it's just a fictional story, it's not that deep". I am a writer. It is that deep. This post is critical of Jack for reasons other than the obvious fact that he abuses his patients. Don't proceed if you don't want that.

And additional warning: if you ship Lucy and Jack and are going to get mad at me that it isn't book canon, you can take it up with Bram Stoker instead. This warning will seem petty, and it is. I have been yelled at simply for engaging with canon in a way that goes against other people's headcanon, and I will not tolerate that here.

I'm thinking about men and their entitlement. I don't like the idea of the story ending with Jack and Arthur being gifted two nameless, faceless trophy wives. One can explore for themselves in writing how those two got hitched and construct developed OCs to be the wives... but the truth is that the reason why those two got married is that Bram looked at two bachelors who had no women of their own and said: "that isn't a happy ending". The idea that these two men went through this entire story fighting for women, and neither "got the girl"? That's preposterous! Hence why Bram hastily adds that the two are married seven years later. I take full advantage of the vague wording -- of the fact that it is not technically confirmed that they are married separately to two women -- because the idea that these men were just given wives because that is what is expected of men gives me a weird feeling in my stomach. Or maybe I just need to eat, but oh well--

There is also the problem of Jack's entitlement in particular.

Just look at his marriage proposal. I analyzed it back then. He comes to Lucy, telling her how much this prospective marriage will do for him, how happy he will be, how she will be fixing his life, his problems. Nothing about what he has to offer. All he has to offer is himself and, it goes without saying, his wealth... but that's a given since she doesn't have her own income nor control over her assets-- he NEEDS to be able to provide fiscally for her. That is the least he can offer. But that's all that he really brings to the table. What he talks about during his proposal is all the things Lucy has to bring to the table, all the things he expects of her, and she hasn't even said yes!! Of course, she cried, hot damn.

Lucy herself lamented how good and noble men are and that women don't deserve them! And it is because of that general attitude that Jack listed all the blessings he would reap from the marriage but never focused on how Lucy would benefit-- because it's thought that all a woman needs is a man! That women are lucky to have a man regardless of circumstances! This is why I'm so damn happy that Lucy listened to her heart and chose the man that she loved regardless of all the pressure being put on her by two others. She knows herself in a way Jack doesn't know either of them.

Do I think Jack is an awful person for this? No. But I also don't think he was proposing to Lucy for the right reasons. I'm not entirely sure he was really in love with her. I know he thought he was, but with how shortly they knew each other, I believe he saw Lucy as a pretty face with good marriage prospects. And that's exactly how Lucy sees him! Just a pretty face and a good prospective marriage candidate-- but she's not in love with him. Lucy knows that love isn't the only thing that makes a marriage, but it's still very important to her. If she can find a man she loves who loves her back AND can support her? Woo! And she did with Arthur! Meanwhile, I think Jack doesn't feel love so much as fascination. That's not a bad thing, it doesn't make him bad.

Rolling this back around to the idea of just giving him a wife in the epilogue. That's part of why there's a sour taste on my tongue thinking about it. Men feel entitled to marriage because it is one of the expectations put on them -- they need to find a woman and keep her, and she needs to be a good one. She needs to make his meals to his standards, clean up after him, provide him with children, clean up after them. She also needs to love him and express that love through the previously mentioned chores and sex. If a man doesn't have this, is he really a man? Can his life ever be happy?

Jack wasn't happy with his work. He was in a very unhealthy place, and instead of addressing the issue, he thought bringing in a woman to dote upon him would brighten the place up. Like buying a new piece of furniture to make a dilapidated house feel more homey.

I think Jack is worthy of love, but the problem is that, like most men in this patriarchal society, he believes he is entitled as a man to receive it from any woman he chooses, and I don't think he ever has that worldview shaken over the course of the story. Hell, I think he kind of had his worldview validated! The happiest he ever was in his own home was when Mina made him tea, and he could pretend for a moment that she was his wife. That's cute for a fictional character. But imagine if you were a married woman and your male friend fantasized the reason you were nice to him was because you wanted him. Not so cute.

In a post-Dracula story where Jack gets a nameless, faceless bride, I don't see him ever leaving the asylum. No, instead, he stays, and he wonders why being married hasn't cured his depression. He wonders why his wife seems unsatisfied with him constantly working and neglecting her when one of the things that attracted her was his high position. God forbid she tries to drag him away from his work-- he needs this job to feel like a man!

In a post-Dracula story where Jack has instead married Arthur (yeah, not a legal marriage, but gay couples have always had ways of being together), I see him in a better place. I see him with a man who knows and loves him, who recognizes that the esteem that the insane asylum brings Jack is not worth his unhappiness, and who can actually get through to Jack because Jack respects Arthur's opinion as a man! I see Jack finally self-reflecting and eventually rejecting his faulty belief that a woman would "fix" him.

This is a lot, Jesus.

Muse is the main character a human boy who is just trying his best who gets swooped up into helping a dragon girl save her kingdom and the magical dimension while also fighting to preserve his home town!

Plume a dragon girl (plume, bloom you get the gist) who somehow ended up on earth is now tasked to find help to save her people and mother while also discovering the beauty of earth

Thea the daughter of an urban development company ceo and the love interest of muse (did i get myself this invested into a ship that i made it canon here… yes.) she’s a frail girl but is forced to step in as her fathers ideas turn from helpful to greedy and destructive

Orianne Thea and Muse’s friend and the more motherly of the group but faced with difficult circumstances and changes in her life can cause her to lash out as her life is completely steered of its course by magic and her dad remarrying.

Caelus! Muse’s closest friend a pretty chill guy that works at an icecream parlour during the week and helps his family with their market food stand in the weekend, he really wants to be a culinary chef but doesn’t know if he can truly achieve his goals in his hometown.

That’s the gang this will from now on be an original concept and no longer a winx rewrite yes winx will be an inspiration for this work but i do not intend to go the fairy route nor make the world building as big as i had made it in my rewrite… what you will see is me taking my rewritten work as a basis for this story considering i have basically rewritten my version of domino, zenith and solaria from scratch sooooo SWEET BABY BOY CRYOS MY BABY will be making a return later on in this story he’s mine he’s my son my boy i can do with his character whatever i pleaseeee ok ty

When I was rewatching Season 2 I had your “emotional constipation” comment in mind and I noticed Hanzee never really expresses his emotions physically or through words, only subtlely, but when he finally does both when Peggy is going to cut his hair (confessing he’s tired and looking like he’s actually relaxing when Peggy is about to make the cut), he’s betrayed and (literally) stabbed in the back (very subtle scene lol). So that probably made his bottling up soooo much worse. I wanted to ask how to even try and work through that hard shell on a guy like Hanzee? Or maybe an example of how you’re doing that with Rye, working through the bottled up emotions, if you have a more solid idea with him. I was also thinking about the first ask I sent and how you said that how being in love with a guy probably wouldn’t surprise Hanzee the most. I was wondering, what would surprise him then? (Sorry if it was just an offhand comment, sometimes I read too much into stuff lol) (Oh jeez, big wall of text lol sorry!)

Omg hi again! It always makes me really happy to recieve these asks so there's absolutely no need to apologise for the wall of text!

I've been mulling this over all day, thinking of how I would go about trying to write this kind of thing, and I gotta admit you have me stumped! I feel like it really depends a lot on the OC, and who they are as a person. Are they an open book -- a sort of foil to Hanzee -- or are they equally as emotionally constipated and in need of healing? The former may struggle to peel back the hard shell for a while, as I feel Hanzee may be suspicious of someone so ernest and eager to befriend him, but then again if they're BOTH hiding behind a wall, we've got two layers of bricks to tear down.

That's kind of a non-answer, I apologise! I haven't done a huuuge amount of writing for Hanzee, purely because we know so little about him! I truly wish we had more of the Season 2 scripts available to the public, as a fun thing about Noah Hawley's screenwriting (at least in the production pinks I've read) is that we really get to see into the minds of the characters in a way I've never seen in a screenplay before. Though it's odd, in the one script we do have with Hanzee in it (S2E8 - Loplop), we don't really get that! Even in the scene you mentioned, we don't get to see his inner thoughts, rather viewing it through Peggy's eyes instead.

I think it's very interesting how Hanzee's almost unknowable inner self is even true to the script itself, which seems to be deliberately written in a way that doesn't let us see inside his head. I obviously can't speak for the rest of the scripts or the revisions past this relatively early one, but it's something cool to note. I know that doesn't help answer your question AT ALL, but it was something I've been thinking about for a while and wanted to throw out there (:

As for an example of how I'm doing that with Rye... that's kind of complicated. To avoid spoiling too much if you're reading my fic, it takes a very long time -- and even then, there are still a lot of internal conflicts which never end up getting resolved in the fic. I also feel like due to certain plot points I won't mention, their situations unfortunately probably aren't comparable, but who knows! I don't know really anything about your story (and I would absolutely love to, if you'd like to share! My DMs are always open if you want to chat about stuff and maybe even play toys with our OCs hehe) so maybe I'm wrong :P

The point about Hanzee not being surprised about being in love with a man was probably worded poorly when I wrote my initial answer half-asleep LMAO. I don't mean to say that he wouldn't be surprised at all -- he definitely would! I feel like that kind of revelation comes as a surprise to a lot of people nowadays so it would have been even more of a shocker back then; I mean that the fact that he's managed to fall in love at all would be even more shocking to him. I feel like having had such an insular and isolated life, he may never considered a relationship at all/not been interested in one. OR, the sadder, slightly less headcanon-y option: perhaps he eventually resigned himself to thinking he'd never find love because the Gerhardts had isolated him for fear of him realising he can do better. How this would sway his reaction is a whole other question that I'm honestly not sure how to answer! Probably a lot of thinking and not a lot of speaking :P

YAYYYY GHOSTBUR!!! :D

I have cried over Ghostbur. I have cried. This probably doesn’t sound like much, but I personally hardly ever cry. It is a Momentous Occasion if I shed a tear—which I have done for my love Ghostbur <3 His story is so unbearably tragic and sad and much of it fills me with anger, and just… he really makes me Feel Things. A lot of things.

At this point I sorta wish Ghostbur was my OC 😭 Because then I could give him a canon happy ending that does not involve Limbo or merging with Wilbur. Like. I dislike Both of those things with quite a passion. I want Ghostbur to be mine I want to give him canon soft blankets and canon soup and canon hugs with Friend and canon happiness & healing :( I also get very easily upset over Ghostbur takes that I don’t like, or when I see people mischaracterizing him, and I just feel so protective lol EVEN THOUGH I know he’s not my character! He is simply… so special and dear and beloved to me. I want to protect him :(

Literally my Ghostbur playlist is like 30 hours long okay I am not even joking. If I listen to a song, there is a High chance that I associate it with Ghostbur—a high chance!!! And this isn’t just with music either; I see sweaters, I see blue flowers, I see sheep, I see red hats, I see many many things, and I think of Him <33 My obsession over this little guy is Boundless and I could probably make anything about Ghostbur if I were to think about it enough. I’m half-convinced that every single AJR song could fit Ghostbur.

What do you mean he sneezes when he looks at the sun. What do you mean. I didn’t do that. That’s how he came in the box. I’m telling you. Believe me.

Soooo…. I have been inspired and I drew a thing! As you guys know, I love Barnaby and I’ve been obsessed with him for a while and even made a ask blog where you can ask him questions and I’d draw a picture, responding to the question as Barnaby! So, I was reading facts about him the other day and it said….

I was wondering how or what Barnaby does to handle these types of situations where people want to die of old age, since he doesn’t have any time related powers. That’s when I realized: Barnaby needs a little assistant to help him murder his party guests!

So, I’d like to introduce you all to my first BBU OC, Bartholomew the bat!

(Psssst! If you turn him upside down and look at his face, ignore the ears, you’ll see a little Easter egg in the outline of the head! Could that be the outline of Barnaby’s head?!)

I would’ve liked to choose a time related name for him, but Bartholomew was his WIP name and…. I think his name fits him quite well!

Now, Bartho here has Time magic. I had to come up with all of this from scratch, since the game isn’t out yet and no time related characters have been revealed, but basically, Bartho can manipulate time on himself and on others. He can make himself and others look and feel any age he wants, using his magic, he has technically found a way to make himself immortal by rewinding time on himself, as a result, he has lived countless lives, so his backstory can be anything you want! If you can think it, he’s probably lived it!

(This makes him kinda OP, i know, but I honestly can’t think of any drawbacks to this power, so if you have a suggestion, feel free to leave a comment!)

When Bartho went to go join Barnaby’s party, Bartho surprised Barnaby by saying that he wanted all the deaths that Barnaby could possibly think of. Barnaby questioned it of course, but when Bartho explained what he could do, I’d like to imagine that Barnaby probably had a heart attack out of joy! XD

Compared to Barnaby, Bartho is extremely tiny! About the size of a mouse! Barnaby can definitely eat him, if he wanted to!

I’d like to think that he is a clockmaker who loves clocks and watches and loves to fix them!

One of my favorite ideas I’ve come up for Bartho is that when he sleeps, he sways from side to side like a pendulum on a clock!

These were Bartho’s concepts, and they’re not pretty. I was going to post these the other day, but after looking at them some more, I decided that I wasn’t happy with either of them, and needed to go back to the drawing board and make something that I’m actually happy with! And yes, Bartho did have a tail at one point, but I quickly scrapped that idea, created a inspirational board on Pinterest, and tried to get inspired. The things that inspired Bartho’s design is Steampunk, clocks, other bat OCs, actual bats, furries, Halloween, autumn, and Of course, Barnaby!

I would have loved to have this somewhere on Bartho’s ghost design, but alas, I wanted it to be as easy to draw as Barnaby is, adding this would complicate things a lot. So I opted for a finished hourglass, signaling that his time alive is finished and that he has no need to keep track of time anymore. Because he can’t keep track of time in his ghost form, Bartho prefers to stay alive, but isn’t afraid of death, since he can just rewind time on himself. (Yay!!! My version of time magic is broken and OP! LOL!)

2. Alexander or Nell(Dogday): That 2 are just the sweetest characters! That two are my sunshines! Well lets explain a bit. Well... Alexander is the older brother of ?(Obanai) and ?(Shinobu). Sooo he is the sweetest one of the family :D! Senjuro would be some kid that Shinjuro(Give ideas who can be) adopted. He died in the same way like Rengoku :'c. He has 29 years old.

3. Callem(Kickin): Lets say he is a extravagant man! That two have same vibes of cool guys. You may know that Uzui has wives. But no this time! That wives will be his students that he taked care when that 3 were kids! Sooo that problem is solved! And he is a less confident. Just a little!. He has 28 years old.

4. Nicole(Hoppy): Yeah... I know Sanemi is a man but... In this AU is awoman for Alba! :D Yeah I noticed that ship and I loved it! She was the 2nd broked about Alba's death and thats why she is rude to the people. But she is a less rude than Sanemi. She has 27 years old.

4. Samhy(Picky): Yeah, The same with the gender but... With some changes its okay! I think that two would be soo similar about their personality. She is a bit rude but she is just traumatized okay? Dont missunderstand her :(. In this AU she has 25 years old.

5. Charlie(Bubba): Well... Yep he is the strongest here lol. But the difference he is not crying, He is just serious and calm and rarely shows care to others. In this AU he has 23 years old.

6. Theodore(Catnap): Obanai and Theodore have a little same things. The two have friends but 1 is good and the another is bad. So I think that Obanai is perfect to be Theodore! So here he is! He is 23 years old like Charlie :D

7. Amanda(Bobby): She is the most sweetest girl in this AU!! She is the love hashira Mitsuri Kanroji!!! Yeah I dont have to much to say why Amara is Mitsuri. The two are so in love with someone lol. She is the student of Alexander!. She has 19 years old here :D.

Here's some little fic updates for anyone who follows along!

God (of Death) Complex: yes, this will eventually be completed. Since it was only meant to be a one shot and became a short series, I didn't properly map out what I wanted to do with it. (oops that's my bad) SOOOO I'm still brainstorming an ending. :')

Fields of Elysium: on and off hiatus because I'm unsure about the future of it. That's my fault because I went too deep into the teenage years and didn't jump forward like I initially wanted to within the first few chapters.

Motivation: Diabolic: I've had the next chapter maybe 1/3 written since my unexpected silence. I do plan on completing it, but I'll be honest when I say it isn't at the top of my writing list compared to the others.

One Shots: does anyone else find these to be the hardest to write??? Trying to think up original ideas that others haven't done yet is complicateddddd. Why are we all on the same wavelength sometimes? I had a couple of ideas vaguely written for a bit now and then saw others already posting fics for it. So I'm back to the drawing board for those! suggestions/requests are always accepted. ❤️

In the works: I have a medium/paranormal oc x noah fic I've also been working on quietly. As well as a borderline psychotic ruffilo/noah (I can't get decide who I want to make the main guy) x reader fic that I tend to every now and then.

those will eventually make an appearance or maybe they'll be tossed. Who knows!

something i think is Inchresting is the rhaena, aegon and viserys are named for rhaenys, aegon and visenya :3 i think viserys is like hercules right where he was named in an attempt to appease The Wife. aenys was like hiiiii auntie/stepmum visenya look i named a kid after you you dont wanna kill me right?right? and she looks at this kid who didnt claim a dragon isnt a girl isnt maegor and goes oh so youre insulting me huh.

i think rhaena aegon viserys had a slightly weird dynamic. rhaena the lesbian getting forcibly betrothed to her younger brother by her father is gonna make things weird, also aegon was 15 and rhaena 18 which adds just the best most awesome sauce to the mix. i think viserys had very complicated feelings on that especially if he is gay cos like... rhaena obviously does not love her brother romantically right. so u are a boy and ur sister is a lesbian but you dont have that word. and you are gay and your brother is cool and the crown prince and everyone is screwing their siblings and that makes your brain chemistry weird. and now your brother is marrying your gay sister. What about you. the dragon has three heads??? idk he's like 12 at this point he just goes back to playing hide and seek with jae+aly.

everyone steers clear of you in the keep. you used to play with your siblings and the commoners and you used to play on dragonstone and kings landing and now no one wants to touch you. no one is calling you maegor's squire now, the pretence is gone. you are maegor's hostage. you fantasise about a different outcome, where maegor took you to the battle as his squire, and that you being there might have changed what happened. maybe you could have warned aegon. but you know nothing would have changed. youre not a dragonrider. you're worthless you're powerless. youre 14 years old :)

ok second person pov over the gimmick is getting lame. anyway this is where the AU deviates: instead of viserys dying of torture, maegor is like hey maybe my nephew will be more fertile than my BITCH wives. and visenya the blood witch before her death compiled a bunch of old valyrian a/b/o fanfiction and said son if you ever find yourself with infertile wives. Consult These Texts. then tyanna and maegor made viserys mpreggable i dont care about how or like. what his body looks like. im not into the fetish of omegaverse LMAO i dont want to think about the fertilisation or birthing process or what organs he has thats unnecessary. only thing thats important is viserys can incubate babies and they are birthed via c-section :3

quick lore dump: vis is forced to maegor -> rhaena crashes the wedding but vis is so broken at this point he just doesnt want anyone else to die and has resigned himself to maegor so rhaena reluctantly surrenders -> alyssa jae and aly DO go to the red keep after they find out about the wedding and jae dies fighting maegor which makes viserys fully break -> alyssa now has husband dead 2 kids dead her son is queen and she also loses her fight :( lives on dragonstone with alive vaella -> alysanne is given to the faith -> rhaena agrees to a truce and she is hand of the king now and viserys' main protector -> vis gets pregnant and the kid is basically a reincarnation of jaehaerys -> tyanna loses her shit and tries to murder/sterilise/whatever viserys so maegor kills her cos he's finally got his babymaker -> vis has a daughter who's the reincarnation of tyanna -> faith uprising, shut down -> vis has his second daughter final child daenys who's birth is heralded by the martyrdom of poxy jeyne poor in the quashed faith uprising

vis is in the torture labyrinth for a couple decades. life sucks husband sucks everyone is weird about him. very death in venice people are weird about the boy type deal. has to wade through gender and sexuality politics of westeros which means several men going utterly insane about him including a couple kingsguard knights (celibate hypermasculine freaks bound to be insane sexually). one point early-ish on he DOES start believing this one kingsguard knight will save him from The Hells The Horrors but maegor finds out and kills that guy adn sexually humiliates viserys in front of the kingsguard and makes their son watch. So that fucks up vis' psyche for a while :3

rhaena and alysanne try to convince him to rebel and run away that they will use their dragons and fight. but maegor has made vis so paranoid and crazy he thinks maegor knows everything knows all his thoughts so he's terrified of plotting escape cos he thinks maegor will kill everyone. plus maegor made sure to force kids onto him early so that vis wouldnt be able to leave :3 world's most evil babytrap of all time.

vis doesnt interact with anyone except rhaena aly maegor his kids and the kingsguard so yeah its bad for him. ceryse hangs around for a while but shes like yeah i dont want any part of this shit dude being queen is NAWT worth it and she goes back to the hightower to plot marrying her niece off to maegor's son.

also there's a curse on the kingsguard all of them die really horribly and early. its a fun little thing for me personally because in f&b maegor's kinsguard is cartoonishly bad and jae's is cartoonishly perfect so i though Hey what if we did a little curse on the kingsguard ey. that would be fun. the only guy who stays long is a bracken because brackenfail cancels out knightfail. he's all godly and pissy about the gay marriage thing but he's also a monarchist so even though he think maegor is satan he's like well. he is my king i must serve him i obey my vows. he thinks viserys is a freak of nature but slowly grows to respect him and helps kill maegor + takes the fall for it. they have a weird father figure/white knight/weird tension thing that never gets consummated yay ^_^ the maegor torture labyrinth will have you 21 years old and best friends with a 50 year old celibate knight like dang where tf ser bracken at today 🥹

viserys snaps in 66AC with no like big catalyst or anything. he just has a good day where he's mostly lucid and he's angry and he's tired of everything and he's sick of maegor and he wants freedom he wants to be free. he wants to breath the air without panicking that maegor is going to hurt him. and maegor says some disgusting comment to him while theyre alone in the throne room and vis just snaps and start fighting him. daenys shows up cos she had her own Visions and Voices and they just start whaling on him. bracken knight helps too he takes most of maegor's counter attacks his organs are all over the floor but maegor dies impaled on the throne YAY

vis is like. A bit better for a while. his son is now king and vis is seeing that oh it doesnt get better does it people will still die. also his son jae has this weird oedipus complex about him thanks to maegor's insane parenting and viserys is fully aware of that so its not fun times for him. jae and daenys try to make him better try to invent therapy but its the middle ages they dont have that yet. they finally send him off to harrenhal (BAD IDEA) because they think viserra (the elder daughter btw, the tyanna one) might be able to cure him with her weird witchcraft. they think she's insane too but its the last option... viserra thinks vis is lame and weak but she does love him in ehr own way or maybe just pities him. anyway she does her best and it works for a while but viserys sorta gives up cos the depression is too much. and viserra believes in euthanasia as a mercy and thinks this is best for him this will let him be at peace. daenys has a premonition about it and tries to stop him. she has a big blowout fight with jae about it too and curses his bloodline and prophesises the long night. burned the red keep a little bit, you know how it is.

blah blah blah anyway daenys and vis end up dying in the gods eye together in a murder/suicide suicide/suicide murder/murder whatever. viserra has the lake dragged and they're found holding each other like a mother and her fetus :3

i know i neglected his canon story for soooo long (i plan to finish it during the summer or whenever i have time- maybe it'll be earlier depending on how this year shakes out) but i keep using him for rp on discord and he's the best man. hes truly just. good egg personified

he has his flaws. everyone does. he has a tendency to be a little condescending to others, a tendency to mansplain a little... he has a bit of a saviour complex, a bit of moral superiority... he's good, he was raised to be good and nice and kind and respectful, and he has this noble goal of changing the world for the better, and honestly anyone who isnt working towards that has to be a bit misguided, right? this, paired with the fact that he's not immune to propaganda and harmful ideas......... ummmmm yea it can lead to Problems

BUT. at the core hes just such an absolutely squishy little man with the biggest heart. he really does want to do good. he wants to make people happy, he wants to love and be loved, he wants to touch people's hearts and make their lives better. he wants to marry a woman (lets say he wants to marry. hes in for some awakenings in his life) and open a dessert shop. he helps stray animals in his free time. he's just so ... he really is trying to make the world better in all the ways he knows how.

and because those rps usually included him getting the relationship he wanted sooo badly, i also know he's the best boyfriend ever. literally so caring and considerate and perfect. will bake you so many cookies. every birthday or occasion, hes READY with the prettiest tastiest cake of your dreams. also you get 'hey would you like to taste this before i try to sell it in the shop?' privileges.

1. What was the first part of your WIP that you created?

Worldbuilding!!! I've always loved Mars (influenced by Doom probably? i just think it's neat :]) and the idea of a whole society on Mars is just very cool for me. All the possibilities and things that can go wrong. And the political debates.......

2. If your story was a TV show, what would the intro song be?

HMMMMM this one is hard bc i absolutely su k at picking music for story playlists and this is waaaaaay harder. I think I would love it to be instrumental or smth tho!

That said I would soooo much rather have it become a video game, and and if I were to pick a song for a trailer I'd go with either Black Mambo by Glass Animals or something from Depeche Mode. My brain is currently telling me to go with "Pain That I'm Used To" but I wouldn't say it fits Cynosure that well KFKKFFKFKFK

3. Who are your favourite character(s) and why?

Tobyyyyyyy <3 I love him so much he is such a...guy. He's some guy. A chemist who has spent a bit too much reading his dad's books about social theory and stuff since he was a child. All he wants is that people would be happy and he has so much love to give for the world, which mostly means him helping people a lot (people pleaser guy). Tobias isn't really that special, he wants to do something he likes, he's scared of guns (for a reason) and just wants a calm new life. Too bad that's not happening for a while.

To think he started as a copy of Nathan I made for a The Outer Worlds playthrough and then it all kinda turned into a bigger thing and he became his own self and I just decided to pull him + Klara & others out of being fandom ocs and put them into Cynosure.

4. What other pieces of media could share a fan base with your WIP?

HMMMM I'd say basically any kind of scifi book that has some societal themes in it + has some comedy and stuff. Same for video games maybe?

5. What has been your biggest struggle while writing your WIP?

I'm going to be honest I haven't really started writing Cynosure yet JFBBFBFFKF

My biggest struggle is having a job and being a master's student basically hehe

6. Are there any animals in your story?

Haven't really figured out if I'd want to showcase Mars wildlife in it + what kind of wildlife would it be, BUUUUT!!! There's definitely Klara & Toby's cat, Melody. She's a lil tabby cat :3

7. How do your characters get around?

I'm a public transport fan so I'm putting public transport into my wip!!!! I'd say Mars has lots of fancy trains and the ocean area has ships. Buses, too, though probably not what Cynosure characters will end up using.

There's also cars and motorcycles, though they're hovering instead of having wheels. Mars terrain sucks for wheels.

8. What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

Figuring out the plot + finishing up worldbuilding <3

9. What aspects of your WIP do you think will draw people in?

Hmmmm! I'd love to say worldbuilding or like, whatever is going on in Mars power struggles. Making fun of capitalism too (i'm a social scientist), maybe even the characters? Who knows :^)

How do you view Florian and Juliana? Because being player characters they're kind of mutually exclusive? I've seen some HC them as friends, some HC them as siblings and even one where they were genderfluid and used different names.

I've seen all of those yeah! Honestly I like em all! I think I answered something like this before, but don't remember soooo. Here's the duo as separate people!

From what I do remember, I said that Florian and Juliana kinda have a reverse arc from each other. Juliana starts off as this very energetic, bubbly girl, but both the plot and the dlc stuff happens kinda wear her down, and she kinda becomes stuck in her head about things she could have done better. In a way she kinda becomes more bitter, which doesn't mix well with her already brash and go and get em nature.

Meanwhile, Florian was this very shy, non-confrontational guy who grew more and more self assured as time goes on. At least, he tries to appear that way. Truthfully, he's still scared and hurting, accompanied with the new found guilt during the dlc,but he doesn't want to go back to that invisible nerdy kid, so he just plays up his confidence in hopes that others will believe him. ( Kinda like Kieran lmao )

I know just said that both of them Go Through It in the dlc, but I do like the idea of Jules being the main protag of the main game( maybe she did the routes with Arven , and Flor being the main protag of the dlc. So I dunno if Jules would probably go through all that if I was to use them for my own version of events ( that doesn't have ocs lol). I still think Area Zero fucked her up a bit though, but maybe not to the point where she's bitter.

( shrugs) that's kinda the best I got. As for them being siblings or not, I think being siblings would elevate their contrast more I think, especially in how they view each other. Jules was always the one on the front,and Flor was honestly happy with being in the back, in his own little world. But I can't imagine it wasn't the best for his own self confidence, and for Jules perception of him.

Is that just Kieran and Carmine in protag form? Yeah, kinda! I'm just realizing that, whoops! Ah well, i'm too deep into this ask lol.

soooo as i suspected i was too busy to do anything fun for my babygirl (jesse) for his birthday (TODAY!!!) and i won't have any time today to do much either since it's cookie baking day BUT i still wanted to share some fun character progress & development stuff w/ him from the last 5-ish years 💞

my first ever art of him (2018) -> baby's first cingefail re-design (2019) -> another re-design, pretty close to what i settled on (2022) -> another re-design (mid-2023) -> the same thing only without the scar because i didn't like it & the one i'm sticking with because i love it and i love him (late 2023)

he was originally named james and was my self-insert cis-sona LOL and i already made a post recently about how developing him helped me not be so scared and come into my identity as a trans man (and i made jess trans later on too as a radical act of self-love or whatever) so i won't go into that again. he is my favouritest guy ever truly

i changed his name in 2019 and was workshopping his design until this year actually, i was never really happy with how he looked until recently. i'd never say he's truly a self-insert these days even though i joke about it still hehe.. he's his own guy now but i still like to put a lot of myself in him for old times' sake (my mental illness, love of cooking, etc.). i took a little inspiration for his personality from some of my favourite books; 'white noise' in particular helped me develop this idea of how powerful a narrative it could be for him to have this almost obsessive preoccupation with death.

i want to talk a little bit about 2022 jesse too because he is so very special to me but it's less relevant to who he is as a fallout character. i wanted a death stranding oc and just decided to slot him into that uni too NGJGHFDFG i'll put this bit under a cut since i'm sure not a lot of you are particularly interested in that.

ok SO his 2022 re-design came from adapting him into the ds universe and even tho this is under a cut it's still SO self-indulgent so i won't get too deep into it. he was like. "evil" i guess? he was with the demens and i paired him off with higgs (they met when they were teens after jess accidentally killed his brother and ran off from his family's preper shelter) but he was still not really into the killing and the terrorism stuff. but. when you love someone and it's toxic yaoi sometimes you overlook things like murder y'know

he and higgs were linked by a set of chiral rings that higgs made for him. they gave him a sort of healing ability that basically boiled down to him shaving time off of his own life to give to someone else in the form of healing wounds, restoring blood, etc. and that transfer was done thru chiralium. or something. i never really gave that bit too much thought LOL what was most important to me was that he died mid-way through the story of the game and he never crossed the seam because higgs, in some desperate attempt to control death, crudely mummified his body with tar so his body never decomposed or became a bt. so he was kind of. stranded (heh). on the beach. and the pair of them link up again after higgs gets exiled.

maybe i'll share a bit more of this when ds2 comes out and i get to think about him & that world some more but for now that's it ok cool

Chat has such an awesome character design- im totally jealous of her hair. As I was drawing her the hair was the most fun part I'm totally obsessed with it! As for her lore, I'm super curious about her relationship with the other SOG members 👀. Also, it was my first time drawing sunflowers, haha, so they might be a little wonky! Still, Chat totally rules, and she was super fun to draw- especially her hair! The ombre is soo pretty <3

JMN (Roguendeavor)

I'm soooo sorry about his skintone- my gray pencil was having the worst day of its life and i erased it like twelve times 😭. Still, theres some extra stuff I tried to put in there. The skeleton guy is supposed to be an angel, and the necklace his hand is on is supposed to be angel feathers! (I was thinking they might be remnants of his wings 👀). I was inspired by priest clothing I found online. JMN is a really cool character and as I was drawing him I kept thinking of stuff to add- I love the idea of fallen angels!

Viridius (fiddler-sticks)

Viridius is such a goofy goobster I love him SO much. I drew him in the midst of a water balloon fight with his classmates (ten bucks says he started it, haha!). Its so sad that other kids dont like him- I hope he gets a cool power it better friends to make up for it lol. But hes such a fun character. Drawing a snake man was a little difficult, but I had a lot of fun drawing him, and I liked the detailed descriptions you gave alongside them!
