Reo mikage
Rivals to lovers
when you first got into that school you were know This was a real rich school. You could tell from the cars at the entrance of the school, but you? You were coming to school on foot, You got into this school with your grades and your parents were proud of you, that was enough When you entered school you felt like you didn't belong here Because everyone around was so sparkly You didn't even want to look at yourself.
You entered your classroom and saw a crowd standing around a boy he looked so spoiled to you And oh my god Even his laughter was a rich laughter like ha ha ha You shook your head in despair.
At that moment, the teacher walked in, the crowd dispersed and you were left standing. And you probably looked very strange to them because you were not Japanese. You were British So you had a bit of an American high school cheerleader girlie vibe (don't question me) The teacher called you over and you stood right in front of the board.
The teacher spoke
"okay introduce yourself"
You turned to the classroom and adjusted your tone and started speaking.
"uhm I'm y-n l-n I'm from England Nice to meet y'all"
Okay, so what are you supposed to do now, bend over? The teacher pointed to an empty seat for you. The boy you saw Just a moment ago
You slowly approached and sat down, placing your bag on the floor The lesson started and you caught him looking at you every now and then. You thought this was weird like why are you looking at me you creepy bitch? You thought so but you didn't look at him instead you answered all the teacher's questions It was like you were competing with him in terms of answering the teacher's questions.
The bell rang and he turned to you, smiling but it wasn't a kind smile, it was more of a mocking smile. He spoke
"Soo you're so smart huh?"
You got angry at his words you wanted to say, yes, I'm very smart, what do you care? But you unfortunately said
"oh you think so?"
He chuckled lightly.
"You may be smart but not as smart as me"
"Oh we will see you purple puppy"
You suddenly heard everyone in the class making surprised noises when you called him like that, and frankly, it made you nervous.
"Ah ah don't call me that you can call me by my name my name is reo mikage"
He stood there like he was waiting for me to react when he said his name. I didn't understand why he was doing this
"So what?"
He made a surprised sound
"you don't know me?"
"Who are you? Beyonce?" You wanted to laugh as if you had just made a very funny joke.
he rolled his eyes
"I am the heir of the mikage company"
"What is mikage company?"
Everyone was looking at you like you were stupid.
"It's hard to talk to you"
You got bored and left. He looked at you until you left the classroom. There wasn't much going on in the next lessons, but your English was good. You were British after all But the Japanese English accent sounded very strange to your ears.
Everyone in the class, including the teacher, was very surprised by your accent, which was very satisfying. But at the end of the lesson you got bored and started reading your book.
Your book name was haunting Adeline and yeah you was knew what you were doing hehe spicy
Reo's eyes fell on your book as if he was trying to read secretly. When the teacher turned around, he looked at you and asked
"What are you reading?"
"Haunting Adeline"
"What is the book about?"
You felt your cheeks turn red but you didn't care.
"Uhm look there's a girl who named Adeline and she has a stalker that's all I can say"
"Hmm cool I'm gonna buy one when I got home"
You nodded like a spoiled brat.
"Yeah yeah If you want you can buy me the All the books of the book"
You said it as a joke, you didn't expect to see the box for the book set on your table the other day.
What the hell was happening?
Part 2?

Misfortune Teller
tldr: An older Danny, apprentice to Clockwork, does a lot of field work across dimensions, resetting the timeline, queuing future events, and who knows what else. Occasionally, he warns people about such upcoming possibilities, to set them on the right path. How, you might ask? Well in this case... as a wandering fortune teller.
Crack-fic (oh god, it's getting long and my logic brain won't let it remain as crack) where Danny becomes Clockwork's apprentice after getting his GED. Living his infinite afterlife to the fullest. Inspired by this tumblr post.
Working for Clockwork had been... interesting so far. At first, Danny got frustrated by how vague and cryptic Clockwork was. He'd just shunt Danny off to some ancient time with a few words, his own time medallion (Danny carried it everywhere with him now), and then pop back into the portal, leaving Danny with only the faintest idea of where to go.
Eventually, after enough time (ha!) spent around Clockwork, Danny figured out that it just basically meant that he had free reign and to do whatever he wanted. Because if he went on the wrong path, (like that one time in Pompeii when he had almost caused the volcano to explode a few years too early), Clockwork would just pop on by, say another few cryptic words, and then it'd all be fine and dandy, or as he liked to say, "All is as it should be... Now stop practicing your wail by an active volcano."
After telling Jazz about that (it was supposed to be funny, not concerning), she just sighed and shook her head, with a forlorn "think before you act, Danny!" but hey, it'd turned out fine so far, so who cares how he does what Clockwork asks him to do, as long as it gets done, right? Even if it's with a liiiiitle more mischief than strictly required.
Besides. Danny was the one who had been doing time shenanigans across millennia, not Jazz. And he thought he'd been getting pretty good at it too! He'd actually started giving himself a different made-up background for each universe he visited. Sam and Tucker were helping him keep up with the identities on a spreadsheet, so if he had to go back to one he'd already visited, he'd remember who he'd said he was supposed to be.
---
He was on a call with them one evening while haunting Jazz's apartment, doing just that, when he felt a familiar tingle in the back of his throat, as well as a heightened awareness of the seconds passing by, that always accompanied his mentor's appearance.
Sam was talking about his past stint posing as a god of death when he cut in. "Hey- sorry to interrupt, Sam- Clocky's here, guys, I gotta dip."
"Aw, come on! We hardly talked any this past week since you passed your certifications, man," Tucker complained.
Danny rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Yeah, yeah. Partly on you too though, you've been caught up outside of class, and Sam's schedule is nearly the opposite of yours."
Sam hummed in agreement despiter Tucker's scoff.
Danny missed hanging out with them as much as they had in high school, but hey, life goes on. Or at least, theirs did, to college. After finally flunking out of Casper High, he'd taken some time to get used to his responsibilities in the ghost zone, and when he had, he realized that he didn't really have much enthusiasm or timeleft for his human life.
And he didn't really want to go back home either.
But Jazz had made him tie up any loose ends before he noped-off to god knows where, which frankly, he had to thank her for. Getting his GED took a few years, but it was an accomplishment that could be attributed to Danny Fenton, no ghostliness required. Then he was able to let that tether go free.
Pulled out of his musings by a few more grumbles from Tucker, Danny said his goodbyes, promising to call the next time they were all available.
After hanging up, Danny swiveled around, anticipation already lighting up his eyes an ethereal green.
Clockwork, for his part, had been waiting patiently through Danny's lengthy goodbyes. Although he supposed that it tracked for the watcher of time to be patient. With his job, it'd be a nightmare if he wasn't.
"Phantom," Clockwork spoke, calm as always. "I have some tasks I need you to complete as my apprentice."
And Danny, always ready for adventure, didn't need him to explain any further. "Sure! When do you need me to be?"
Clockwork smiled at that. "I am fortunate you are eager. Follow me."
---
Danny popped into existence in this universe with a burst of cold air and static electricity. He found himself hovering by a clocktower above a sprawling, gothic city. Smog and light pollution obscured the stars above him, to his disappointment. He comforted himself with the fact that he'd probably have all the time he wanted to fly someplace less populated to see them later.
He started off by familiarizing himself with the city. As he flew, he followed the trail of power and met the resident city-spirit, a spooky- but kind underneath- woman draped in black lace, who told him her name was Gotham. He spoke in length with her about this universe, its heroes, and her knights. On that, she was very enthusiastic... or at least Danny thought she was, her projected emotions belaying much more than her gloomy exterior. She told him how her knights had been through a lot and would need some guidance fighting the darkness that pooled in her deepest corners, smiling with too much glee, filling lungs with fear, and terrorizing with cold hard bullets.
Danny could sense that the dangers she spoke of were growing in power, ever slowly. The longer they shadowed people's minds and hearts, an intangible thing grew that lent them more otherworldly pull than their physical forms had right to hold.
That must be what he was sent here for.
But... they were weak, pitifully so for him, infinite king as he was. And besides, he wasn't here in that sense. He was a messenger, a simple apprentice. And he could do this however he wanted.
Cue his talk with Lady Gotham, and subsequent idea to arm her knights. With what? Well, he figured knowledge would be a start. Flying high above the city invisibly, Danny noticed a sea of colors and lights by what appeared to be the city's pier. He flew down, noting that it appeared to be the setup spot for a travelling circus or carnival of some kind.
He considered what to do. One of Lady Gotham's troubles was a madman clown, right? Well maybe he'd be attracted to his ilk here... and with the danger came the knights. Maybe he could catch one of them here?
Danny was floating around at the entrance and beginning to formulate a plan when a flyer caught his eye. Looking for a mystic to read fortunes. URGENT!
Hadn't Clockwork said something about fortunes? And he hadn't made an identity in this universe yet...
A mischievous smile crept across Danny's face, splitting it in two with far too many teeth.
---
Half a city away, a man in all black, perched on the very same clocktower that Phantom had Appeared by, shivered as he felt an ominous premonition about his sanity in the near future...
Said man quickly opened his comms to check in with his many, many kids. Yet even after hearing back from each, he still felt apprehensive.
Somewhere even further, Clockwork laughed.
---
And that's how Danny found himself seated at a fortune teller's booth at a pier in Gotham, two days later, for the Tricksy Traveling Circus's grand opening.

This Week in BL - Thailand surprised me
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
May 2024 Wk 1
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
My Stand-In (Thai Fri iQIYI) ep 2 of 12 eps - I love love love Sol! Pink-haired baby idol blast from the past nursing a crush = absolute catnip for me. This is def my favorite Thai BL currently airing. And it’s probably because it has a sort of odd queer authenticity to both its gayness and its rep of the film industry. I mean, of course it’s sanitized into BL fantasy-landia, but there’s an underpinning of something real, for lack of a better word. Normally I prefer the fantasy of my dumb BL worldview, but in this one I’m kind of liking a little chew and grit.
All of which is to say: this is very fucked up messy gay, which normally I’m not wild about, but for some reason I’m really enjoying this version.
On the other side of the BL coin we have:
Tumblr media
Wandee Godday (Sat YT) ep 1 of 12 - And I like it a lot. It’s fun and I’m enjoying it (possibly more than it deserves). I like how it’s a little absurdist. I like that it starts with a one night stand. I like all of the side characters. I love the asexual representation. Bonus LUBE! It’s a fun show. More FUN that GMMTV usually goes for.
Tumblr media
Two Worlds (Thurs iQIYI) ep 8 of 10 - The sketching in the cave scene was v sexy. And I’m enjoying this BL, but not for any other reason than MaxNat being MaxNatty all over my screen.
1000 Years Old (Thurs iQIYI) ep 12fin - I don’t know what I feel about this one. Mostly just indifferent. It was meant to be the paranormal Thai BL pulp about vampires that we were all waiting for, and it ended up just being boring. Frankly, I'd rather be pissed off than bored. 6/10
Only Boo! (Sun YouTube) ep 4 of 12 - I truly love the naked lust on our side couple's pining friend's face. Usually only Japan get this thirsty.
Tumblr media
Book is perfectly cast as Moo's older bro. They even look a bit alike but it might have been a mistake, because he’s so damn charismatic. Stole all the breath from the show for a bit.
We Are (Weds iQIYI) ep 5 of 16 - No report until next week.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Tumblr media
Unknown (Taiwan Tues YouTube & Viki) ep 11 of 12 - What a fantastic ep. This show really is killing it. I’m so happy with Taiwan right now.
Carry on.
Blue Boys (Korea YouTube) 3 of ? - It remains lovely and I remain enjoying it immensely. It’s very Strongberry feeling. That's always a welcome sensation.
Living With Him AKA Kare no Iru Seikatsu (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 4 of 10 - They are so cute and pretty much just boyfriends already regardless of what they each think. I'm scared that next week is the final episode, it doesn’t feel like it’s gone very far.
At 25:00 in Akasaka AKA 25 Ji Akasaka de (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 3 of 10 - I liked it a little better this week. I guess I’m warming up to this one?
Boys Be Brave AKA Roommates (Korea Thurs Viki) ep 3-4 of 8 - Ah poor lonely neglected child. They are all such weirdos. I don’t understand any of these characters or their motivations except they are strange kind of cartoons of... something.
Love is like a Cat (Korea Mon Viki) eps 9-10 of 12 - The guy who plays the vet should be playing a vampire. That's it. That's all I have to say.
Tumblr media
It's airing but...
Lady Boy Friends (Thai WeTV grey) 16 eps - reminds me a bit too much of Diary of Tootsies only high school. Not my thing. DNF unless it turns a corner and is truly amazing.
Memory in the Letter (Thai WeTV) - 6 eps, when it's done, tell me if I should bother?
You Made My Day (Thai YT) ep 1 of 5 - supposed to have started on Friday but I couldn't find it, I also didn't try very hard.
In case you missed it
GMMTV announced the second half of their 2024 line up. I got excited and picked my favorites, details + trailers here.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Tumblr media
Upcoming BLs for 2024 are listed here. This list is not kept updated, so please leave a comment if you know something new or RP with additions.

5/10 A Balloon's Landing (Taiwan movie) trailer - A frustrated Hong Kong writer, Tian Yu, meets a Taipei street gangster, Xiang (Fandy Fan from HIStory2: Crossing the Line), and the two of them embark on a journey to find the Bay of Vanishing Whales. Along the way, they discover unexpected twists and turns and close bonds, which brings out the message that "there is always someone like you in this world who is waiting for you.
5/16 Blossom Campus (Korea Thurs Gaga & iQIYI) ep 1 of 6 - Strongberry doing classic BL! Weeee!
5/19 OMG Vampire (Thai Sun ????) ep 1 of 10 - LeeFrank are back - not unlike the undead (as it were). But how do we feel about it? Unsure given their track record.
Tumblr media
5/25 The Time of Fever AKA Unintentional Love Story 2 (Korea movie) trailer - HoTae & DongHee are back but unfortunately not in a cinema near me. Side couple from Unintentional Love Story, same actors, same character names. I love them. I NEED TO SEE THIS.

Note
You might want to not tag this one, but I gotta get it out for TH/K writing.
For me, personally, I think the contrast of having such well written characters against not so rounded ones is what undersells them more.
Both Style and Fadel are really well thought, written, and consistent through and throughout, but Kant and Bison? They have their moments, but there's something within them that feels a bit empty. They're compelling characters but only in theory, in practice... I'm not sure what is exactly what they're lacking, but it feels as if they're just written for moments, for scenes between them, but they're just not well developed by themselves.
I'm finding myself enjoying much more the interpretations and afterthoughts the fandom has about them than they themselves, especially with Kant, who's peak of interest for me was at the water boat bit and then it just went nowhere. Well
Ah, welcome to the no tags zone, anon! I will keep this in that area and I respect you for it because I agree.
Kant is, for me, the bigger problem. He feels hollow. His 'fake' love feels the same as his real love and that really removes a lot of the... feelings... in the relationship. We saw Style change as he started to care for Fadel and we saw his momentary fear and then how he got over it and saw every aspect of his love for him as well as how he regained his trust after the betrayal.
But with Kant it's just all been... words. Words, words, words and none of them actually deep or meaningful. None of them feel meaningful. He's just... also there.
I think they made Kant too perfect.
He was a car thief but only for his brother!!! And he was a snitch but only to save his brother!!! The guy who calls him an asshole? Lying!!! He was really the NICEST GUY EVER. And then that just leaves with Kant the Actual Angel who only did anything wrong because he just loved his baby brother SO MUCH that he also said he was gonna abandon him the instant he got out of high school but, you know, that's... that's okay I guess?
He just doesn't feel like a whole, entire character. He feels like someone wrote out the parts of a character they thought mattered to the romance and then just... stopped. He's a really cool tattoo artist who used to steal cars because he had to take care of his little brother and now he's gonna snitch on this hitman and pretend to love him but OOOOO turns out not to be fake!
But there's no depth to any of it. It's all so shallow. The depth is what we give it but the show isn't giving us any of it. The show is as deep as the water Kant reached when he was still experiencing his phobia while we're trying to make it as deep as he reached thirty seconds later when he was suddenly and inexplicably cured of it.
AND because Kant is a Perfect Character who can Do No Wrong he brings down the people around him. And Bison is more complex and multi-faceted but because he has to be played entirely with Kant his depth ends up unable to actually be explored in the relationship because Kant doesn't have the same depth.
It's why, frankly, I found his scene with Fadel and forgiveness to never quite go as far as I needed it to go.
Then again, I still don't trust Kant. I know I have and the show doesn't care but he still feels like he's lying to me. Like, he doesn't feel sincere to me because I feel like he never changed from the part of the story where he was supposedly 'faking' his love.
(Also, fuck the idea that bringing back the safeword in the kidnapping is actually bringing back the BDSM or a good callback because it wasn't, it wasn't deep, it was a callback that didn't make a lot of sense in context and didn't go anywhere in the actual story and apparently that was also all it took to make no more BDSM for Bison, I guess?!?!?!)
Anyway, I love Fadel and Style and they make me very happy and Kant and Bison are also there. I'm more invested in Keen and Nont at this point and Nont is probably, like, tied up under the place Fadel was crying.
But yes, anon. I fully agree that Kant is underdeveloped and I think that underdevelopment has spread to Bison and I think it's weakened them as characters to the point that they cannot carry the plot or the romance... at least for me.

"can you read my mind? i've been watching you"
silly high-school au caitvi...
summary: despite everything her friends say, vi can't help but love caitlyn. she tries to win her over, but realises that she didn't need to...
cw: none that i can think of
title and plot roughly based off the song "crush" by ethel cain ♡
Tumblr media
-------------------♡------------------
violet fletcher was dumb as bricks, lacked any emotional intelligence and was overly aggressive, atleast according to caitlyn kiramman. her stupid haircut infuriated her, and the way she pushed it back constantly. her constant interruption of class invaded on others time. but what irritated caitlyn most was everyone's undying love for vi.
caitlyn kirraman was an annoying stuck-up, a priss and a spoilt brat who needed to check her privilege, atleast according to violet fletcher. the way she would answer every question without hesitation got on her nerves. her need to remind teachers of homework made the whole class groan and mumble. but what irritated vi most was her undeniable attraction to caitlyn.
she loved the way her would braid her hair up when she needed to focus. she loved how she would write her notes so perfectly. she loved when she looked at her.
but of course vi would never dream of saying anything. It would be obscene. caitlyn hated her friends, and frankly, vi's friends hated caitlyn just the same. her family would never dream of their daughter loving a future dropout, a d-grade student whose only talents were kicking balls across a pitch. and caitlyn probably couldn't think of anything worse than loving someone like vi.
but as vi walked across the pitch towards the change rooms, her heart skipped a beat. this was her shot.
"hey! hey cait!" she shouted as she approached her. cait turned around and faced her, with a look of confusion and dismay across her face. obviously choosing to ignore vi, she continued walking away.
vi ran infront of caitlyn in an attempt to block her path. "wait caitlyn-" "vi, i don't want any trouble," she said as she looked at her feet. vi was taken back by this. she didn't think that cait would be intimidated by her at all. "no! me neither don't worry," she said nervously.
"well then, what do you want?" cait asked as her blue eyes met vi's. her pupils dilated as she scanned her up and down, examining the dirty appearance of vi's uniform.
"nothing crazy i swear, just uh, would you want to go do something, sometime?" vi blurted out. caitlyn let out a small laugh, she had never seen vi look so nervous. "i've never heard you sound so nervous, ive always had you laid out as this big tough guy," she commented.
vi raised her eyebrows in confusion, "so, is that a yes or no?" cait smirked, the idea sounded tempting sure, but the likelyhood of her enjoying herself seemed low. "come on, caitlyn, ive seen how you look at me, how you act, there's no way there's nothing on."
"what! like what?" cait said, her eyes widening, she never thought vi even acknowledged her. "i see the way you stare at me, how you talk about me to your friends, no one is that obsessed over disliking someone unless there's a reason for it."
"violet, i don't think we work, i mean, you're so... different to me," cait muttered, her gaze softening. vi brought her hand up to caitlyn's. "i want to make it work cait," vi said as she leaned closer to her face.
without warning, caitlyn pressed her lips firmly against vi, her long fingers ran through the haircut she hated so much. vi grabbed cait's waist and pulled her in. she was so soft, so gentle, she was perfect.
cait looked down at vi, her face pulled into a smile, "i liked that," she confessed. "yeah well i'd hope so!" vi said.
"so... is that a yes?" she asked. caitlyn turned away and began to walk away. "hey wait!" she shouted after her.
"ill see you this weekend, vi."

Yakuza Fiance ep 12 Manga Comparison
It's the season finale overall it was good but there were definitely some good character bits they cute. I hope this convinces some of you to read the manga, its really good and the anime can't really compare, theres also extras and somethings I haven't touched on cause they weren't relevant in my eyes. Anyway everything different under the cut. As always I'm using scans cause I'm lazy.
First up we lost this cute bit with Inamori
Tumblr media
The anime looses out on a lot of cute moments with the side characters.
Ok so I do like the little visual gag they added of the high speed recap of the things Yoshino could be mad about in the anime
Tumblr media
Its kinda like getting a glimpse into Kirishimas head, its a good gag.
In his call to Tsubaki we miss this little flashback on the return trip
Tumblr media
Which adds more context to why he thought she wasn't upset.
Ok so we loose another cute domestic moment with the two
Tumblr media
As he explains why he though the food might work to make her happy.
And we get some side character content
Tumblr media
the guys are trying to make him feel better
The manga gives a little more of Yoshino rationale
Tumblr media
It helps to follow more naturally into her telling him to not get other involved.
We also loose out on a pretty funny gag
Tumblr media
Seeing things from Yoshino's POV really hits home how over the top he was being.
We also loose out on the explanation of Yoshinos wardrobe
Tumblr media
(the fan translation means her grandpas friends)
Did you ever think her outfits were inconsistent? this is why
So the anime actually kinda softens Yoshino's childhood, she says people said things behind her back but she had some friends until middle school
Tumblr media
But the manga makes no mention of friends at all. I suppose you could infer that "Lived normally" implies she had some but I think that fact she doesn't mention having any until Shoma is an important aspect to Yoshino. It's something she and Kirishima share in that they were lonely kids who didn't really realize how lonely they were.
I also need ya'll to know Kirishima blushes WAY more in the manga
Tumblr media
Like I haven't really been noting it but its very consistent (Like the lose of goofy Shoma faces) but I wanted to point it out here cause I think it takes some of the edge away from the scene making it softer in the manga
also Yoshino blushes here
Tumblr media
again I think it adds to tension in the scene and its a loss we dont get that in the anime. But this is what I mean when I say the anime can't compare to the manga in ways I can't really show. Cause shadows, framing and expressions are often very different and give a different feeling.
Anyway there are a few small details taken from the call with Shoma but I think this one is the greatest loss
Tumblr media
It really adds to their dynamic to have Shoma scold her for once and for Yoshino to bite back.
So this is actually the introduction of Azuma he shows up in the anime much earlier in a frankly unneeded added scene in the anime. I can't for sure say which is better but I do think his scene here is more threatening, and better paced in the manga.
But also this is a rare moment where the anime is actually being more subtle than the manga
Tumblr media
so good on you anime for adding suspense.
So the post credits scene is actually an extra but is very well done in animation except for two things
For one the scene isn't interrupted by Shoma on his bike which fyi makes the third added scene of Shoma with his bike literally the only time you see him on the bike in the manga is when shit goes down in Osaka. I swear someone on the team is a motorcycle fan or the studio made a deal with Suzuki for a certain amount of screen time.
Anyway we loose the cute ending of the bit rather than just fading to white we get
Tumblr media
Yoshino happily eating the cake despite it being ruined.
I'll probably post more meta's and think pieces on the series from here out.

More unsolicited thoughts on The Outsiders a New Musical.
Tw: mention of suicide in some of the last paragraphs. If you've read the book/watched the movie, ya know.
Contains spoilers for all forms of The Outsiders (book, movie, and musical). All spoilers are below the cut.
I figured out why some of the songs in the new Outsiders musical didn't make as much sense.
They changed several plot points!!!
Most aren't egregious and I'm cool with them, but there are a couple they got me some kinda way.
(This is based if the plot synopsis on Wikipedia. It could be wrong but it's all I've got cause im a broke pleb).
In Chronological Order:
Obviously there is no Steve. Personally don't care either way. Like him and Soda's platonic relationship, particilarly what we see in the movie, but otherwise I understand why it was easier to cut his role.
Johnny only got jumped a week before the musical (but then Justice for Tulsa sounds weird because Cherry suggests Johhny killed because of how Bob treated him and she implies that he was hurt a while ago...? IDK man. Not to big a gripe but it's just weird).
Grease got a Hold is essentially a ritual initiation because Ponyboy survived getting jumped (they skip his getting saved by the gang by having Pony get knocked out) so him surviving makes him a Greaser? I don't understand and frankly I would've preferred slightly less deviation from the source material here but again, I don't mind this change, it's all down to preference.
I almost don't like how much of a main character Darry has become? Like I like him in the adaptation, but I feel like his upgrade came at the cost of the downgrade of Soda and Two-Bit. I love both those characters and from what I've read/heard they both had there roles reduced, Soda it seems almost severely. But typical middle child shit I guess. Again, he could have a lot of speaking bits because I'm going off a couple synonpses and the cast album, but man I miss him. And Two Bit. I hope that they at least had him and Pony together going to visit Johnny. That's one of my favorite parts of the book and movie.
They add a scene between Johnny and Dally where Dally sees Johnny outside his house. I'm out of order here bit it's the night before the Drive In. Johnny says he's afraid to leave because his dad could kill his mom? Interesting take on that relationship but okay. I do love this scene personally.
I don't know if we get the Two Bit and Marcia fling. It didn't get mentioned in the plot synopsis so I won't comment further.
The addition of Ponyboy going unconcscious during the first fight means I get a two nickles meme about Ponyboy blacking out during fights in this musical.
There's no Randy?!?!? @annacatbeth13 said he got cut for the Broadway run and I'm sorry. He is a hella good character and even though his movie role is reduced, he's so good. I kinda feel like the musical suffers by having only Cherry as the oposition to Soc POV when you've got minimum of Pony and Johnny verbally against the Greaser POV and Darry is very much contrary in action during the book/movie and verbally here.
B/c there's no Randy a lot of Bob and Randy scenes are just Bob and Soc scenes.
I'm sorry, the fact that the guy who plays Bob plays the cop that investigates Bob's murder is sending me. MF rolls up like "yeah, I didn't just die here. This is fine" and everyone rolls with it. It's show business, I understand, but I feel like if I saw this show in person I'd notice and I'd lose it.
Also, I'm gonna note here that Brent Comer played Paul in La Jolla and now plays Darry. Ironic. Speaking of Paul and Darry as much as I don't like them removing Randy using Paul to fill his role as Bob's friend works quiet well. However, isn't Paul 20? And wasn't Bob like 17 or 18? I have questions that I'm not sure I can answer so I'm just gonna assume they were friends in high school and Paul stayed local for college.
I also don't know if they end up going to the Dairy Queen? Like the synopsis says that Dally comes up to see them and that it's Pony's discarded cigarette that starts the fire... but then the kids show up out of nowhere so where the hell did they come from? This entire incident is assumedly spoken so all I've got's the synopsis.
I was told again by @annacatbeth13 that Randy sang Hopeless War with Cherry and Pony and dammit, they took out that entire thing and that is such a catalyst for Ponyboy seeing the world in shades of gray like Cherry mentions in Hopeless War and I'm... I'm sorry. It just feels kinda wrong. I understand why they had to cut him but dammit it doesn't mean I'm not sad.
Everything in the hospital feels rushed. It does seem like they cut the Two-Bit taking Pony to the hospital bit (which makes sense, still sort of makes me mad). It also sounds like they upped Johnny's charge to first degree murder!! Like that doesn't make sense to me. He didn't premeditate shit. I honestly don't even think you could get second degree murder to stick. They then just mention and drop the charges in like the same song? Or in pretty rapid succession because it seems like the cut the juvenile court and Darry having to be checked on by the state storylines. Again, I understand having to strip a musical down to be a bit more barebones because of time contsraints but, like, if Fiddler can have four different plot lines within the same family, you can have the main issue, the sibling fight, and the Pony/Cherry/Randy bit. It's only three plotlines. I don't know why this makes me so mad but it does and IDK why?
I love Trouble. I love Darry in that song. And Dally. But also... Pony in the book and movie has been in multiple rumbles. It is mentioned in greater detail in the book and I don't know how I feel about them making Ponyboy so innocent. Like. He was never innocent, in the book and the movie. Everyone just thought he was? Again, simplifying for time constraints but I do miss it.
I like what they did with Paul. He's always felt very flat, more of a mirror to reflect Darry against same as Steve reflected Soda and Cherry/Randy/Johnny reflected Pony. But I do like the sort of righteous indignation they gave this version of Paul. It gives him that little bit of motivation to convince me that he should be at the rumble, despite being 20. Because in the book we get told that Darry is there specifically as the leader of Pony's "gang" but we don't get told why Paul is there so it feels odd. The musical does rectify that, which I kind of like.
However, I have to say I love Dally and Johnny's relationship in this musical. Just based on what I've seen they made it the most clear and concise interpretation of all versions of this story. Both songs where Dally talks to Johnny he refers to him as little brother, which cements that relationship and helps us understand why he eventually snaps. Which I will be talking about but I cannot give enough praise for their relationship.
I also cannot give enough praise for Cherry. I don't know exactly what they did, and they really ramped up Cherry's invovlement because she had to take some of Randy's place but they did such a good job with her. I like how they put her in the middle of all the conflicts (mostly with the Justice for Tulsa number) and I think seeing how she reacts really cemented this version as my favorite. I think they manage to get across that she actually does care about Johnny and Pony as people. All the other versions she comes off as pitying them which I don't like because it feels fake. And I understand why Pony doesn't like her. I kind of like that her relationship with him extends to her giving him Johnny's clothes because she starts volunteering at the hospital. I think that also helps humanize her too.
Alright, this is the most egrious change, in my humble opinion. They change how Dally dies. I think that him commiting suicide is necessary to the story, but in the musical he JUMPS IN FRONT OF A TRAIN!! You could argue that this is because a train killed the Curtis Parents (as seen in the complete novel edition of the movie) and you could argue that it's a symbol of death or of constancy for the Curtis' as they lose people to trains (technically Pony and Johnny are taken away to Windrixville via train). However... I think it still would've made more sense to stick to Dally dying via suicide by cop. It seems like they cut the Dairy Queen scene and if they did they probably cut Dally carrying a heater, which then makes the suicide by cop not work so they have him jump in front of a train... but that still feels out of character to me. I could be wrong, but when Pony talks about how Dally would go, he says Dally would die young and violent and angry. Him jumping in front of a train doesn't tell me he was angry. It tells me he was depressed. While you still get desperation, it's sad desperation. Not the angry desperation that you get with him doing the suicide by cop.
It would not surprise me in the slightest if they choose not to use Dally's original death because of the police discourse in the media. I want to say now that I have several cops/ex-cops in my family and from what they have told me, if someone pulled a stunt like what Dally did in the movie/book, they would be forced to shoot. It becomes a kill or be killed situation because they don't know if the gun is loaded. Now, the offending officer would be tried later on for manslaughter or related crimes but probably acquitted because they couldn't have known (in the movie it's debatable because the gang yells that the gun isn't loaded, but the police still probably wouldn't have listened). I think that the writers probably wanted to avoid having that controversy drum up. I can't blame them, still pisses me off.
All that being said, I do like this adaptation. But of the three versions of this piece of media, it's my least favorite. Love all the songs, love what characters we do have, and this is by far my favorite Cherry and my favorite portrayal of Johnny and Dally's relationship, but I don't like what they did to Dally in the end. No hard feelings against anyone who likes this or the creatives behind it, but it's just not my favorite and I don't know how faithful I would consider this adaptation.

Not to be like "haha I'm better than you guys!!!" or elitist or anything because that very sincerely is NOT the point of this post.... but I never really understood people extremely love for Harry Potter.
I read them as they were coming out. Most of the time they came out soon enough that I was the same age as Harry. I liked them. They were cool. Goblet of Fire was my favourite and I was always happy to see what story the next book would bring but that's all it was. Interest to see the next story whenever it came out. Like a sitcom you enjoy but you didn't set your tv to record for you in case you missed it.
And then the word "Chosen one" was uttered and, just like that, I fucking lost all interest. Honestly there was "Chosen one" talk in the 4th book and already I was like
Tumblr media
Honestly I think I liked Goblet of Fire the most because there was no friggen Quidditch. And there was less focus on the SCHOOL part of Harry Potter and more this weird Video game Quest setup which just appealed to me more.
In retrospect, I think that might be a big part of why I enjoyed it but never LOVED it like other people.
Like
"Oh boy my absolute biggest most favourite fantasy! THE BRITISH EDUCATION SYSTEM!!!!"
The fact that the books take place in a school seemed like a default to me because, well, most teenage focused cartoons and shows I watched had the main characters at school. Because they're teenagers. But the school wasn't why I enjoyed the books. The school was just a location. No I didn't want to go to Hogwarts. No I didn't want to get attached to a specific school house (although I feel it worth mentioning that when I was 13 I did the online house quiz thing on the official site and it said I was Hufflepuff so make of that what you will).
I really disliked whatever the one was that came after Goblet of Fire. So much so that it completely killed any and all enjoyment I had in the series. Which, considering I was only mildly entertained by them wasn't a massive loss or anything.
I know I read whichever book it was where Dumbledore died but I very genuinely cannot remember one single thing that happens in that book whatsoever. I read half of the Deathly Hallows after coming back from College and gave up because I wasn't enjoying any of it and I never picked the book up again.
I saw the first movie in theaters when I was 13 and I did not like it. It was visually very very dark and gloomy and just... extremely uninteresting to me. Idk how to explain it. The first book just felt so much more vibrant than what I was watching on screen.
I know I saw the 2nd movie although I have no memory of where or why. And I... THINK I saw the third one??? I think??? I'm actually not sure. But that's about where I just stopped and completely lost interest.
Because it wasn't very good.
They just weren't very good books.
They weren't TERRIBLE or anything like that but they were just so.... blah. The earlier ones 13 year old me enjoyed the one time I read each of them but I don't think 13 year old me had the best taste considering I also disliked the Princess Bride at this age.
But I was reading other books because I was a kid with ADHD in high school who desperately needed something stimulating to stop myself from going insane. And frankly, there were just far better books out there. Books I actually re-read. Books I borrowed from friends which ere just... so much better and more interesting.
So I just don't understand this insane appeal so many people have for it, even if they have severed that connection due to Jowling Kowling Rowling's bufoonery and showing herself to be a withered old crone with a shrivled heart and mind every time she opens her mouth.
I grew up with these books the same way as a lot of people. I was the exact age to go through the series' highest popularity and I just did not click with them despite reading them.
So seeing so many people my age or a little younger try and do their best to re-analyse and de-tangle what the books actually are and that... maybe.... just maybe.... they might not have been very good?? Maybe?? is very weird to me because I'm just like.
"Yeah they're overrated as hell and not that interesting."
It's a very weird thing to live through because it's like looking into a bizarro version of the world you remember living through... but not like THAT. I remember the Pokemon craze and yes, it was like that. I remember when anime started to become big and yes, it was like that. I remember DBZ airing and yes, it was like that.
But this insanity around Harry Potter while it was releasing?
Yeah I don't remember it being like that at all.
They were just mediocre books I read because I needed something to occupy my attention and eventually they got worse and worse and I just stopped reading them. That's all.

AH...WE REACHED IT...
I suddenly kind of wish Daimon was the weird black sheep of the family who did "rescue work" as a wandering martial artist of justice rather than a cop with this on the side, because he's very memorable here.
Anyway, I really enjoy the gradual arc of Salamandes stepping out from his siblings' shadows; there's no single big moment of usurpation, he just loses his patience more and more. Even when their mom declares "okay lil bro's in charge now", he's already been yapping about that for a bit, and the other siblings don't really listen anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really like 31 including this bit about the importance of having an actual good relationship with your siblings, cause a lot of TV does just kinda assumes family automatically loves each other deep down. Also nice to see them really paying off the parallel between the hero and villain families. The core family relationship is a huge strength of the show! All the ways they help and annoy each other are really believably layered and mixed together. You really get that "one moment I love this guy, the next I need to punt this guy out the door" you feel with real siblings.
Also: They got the Metal Hero chaos dimension in this show!!!
Tumblr media
My beloved.
Tumblr media
Most of the rest of this batch were pretty good--32 was goofy, 34 was intense--I would have a lot more to say about it, from the intense and nuanced emotions to the sick as hell final fight scene, but @biomic 's liveblog of it kinda has everything covered as so frankly just check out such posts of these:
And 35 and 36 were entertaining zany high-concept spy/heist and martial arts dramas, respectively.
33 was...weird? (and not in the good way, like Milk Judo Piledriver). It could have been an all-timer (a monster gets magic'd into being comically shy around girls, defects from the villains in exchange for confidence lessons from the heroes, you know their eventual battle is going to be tragic), but then it spent quite a bit of time on that old chestnut, "how cute high school girls are", which c'mon, man. It then kinda dials it back by showing he's also shy and falling over around like, old grannies and toddlers, so it's clearly not just a sexual thing, but the emphasis really threw me off enjoying the episode. I dunno, Matsuri even does some ~sexy disguise changes~ and they're mostly not even actual sexy costumes. Speaking of which, further weird moment in 35 where Matsuri sees the crystal they're guarding that's this super important new energy source and repeatedly not listening to this is all "uwaaaah but it's so prettyyyyy" because, idk, girls are frivolous and like shiny things? It's really out of line with her characterisation so far. (This stuff is what caused that previous post where I was like, checking under rocks for Arakawa, but he was apparently nowhere to be found here!)
Still, big upside is 35 did have Dinus as a cat burglar seemingly just for fun? Like, she eventually goes after that super important crystal, but not before doing a bunch of other heists of just random shit. And good for her. The first scene where it keeps cutting between narrated comic panels and live-action footage is really fun, makes me wonder if this is a tribute to some manga that was big at the time.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile 36 I admit I kept thinking everyone was tricking everyone else based on similar episodes I'd seen before, and then it turns out everyone was just being honest and sincere, and frankly the episode was much better for it. The monster really did leave the villains for the pursuit of ultimate martial arts knowledge, Daimon's old master really did take up the monster as his new student, and so on.
What's really important, though, is all the "mooks in fun costumes" content we got this batch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I didn't keep a Dinus Gallery as I went along this time, but she's been pretty highlighted lately, so I have been well-fed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like looking at her : )

that "rick's been acting very jk riordan" caught me like a slap in the face. can you elaborate?
I have so much shit to talk about the man who raised me, I can forgive the fact that he's trying to do good for the world, but there are just some things that erk me a lot about Rick Riordan and the legacy he stands for.
Is he as bad as JK Rowling? No, not by a mile. His clumsily executed writing about race, gender, and sexuality packed enough "You're valid" for me to eternally be grateful for the existence of his stories for the good their existence in school library's can do for kids like younger me. That "JK Riordan" comment was in reference to a blog post he made where he said Percy Jackson is Straight, which had the same energy as JK declaring Dumbledore gay despite what's in cannon. Can't currently find the original blog post, but I found a reddit thread of people confirming it happened. To Rick's credit, he's also stated that the only true cannon is what's in the books and that readers are allowed to interpret that as they wish, but the vibes were similar to eachother is the main point I was aiming to draw. I'm not mad he's straight, I just think that's really funny.
The other shit feels petty to complain about, but I do feel it's worth being mentioned as an actual reason to dislike the man. Staying neutral on the Palestinian Genocide because Disney signs your checks. I don't believe one can be neutral about the deaths of innocent people without being a little evil. To publicly state such a stance perpetuates inaction towards Palestinians, I believe. Maybe there is a two state solution, but he has never publicly condemned Israel's war crimes (I mean, he never condemned the God's either, so idk why I'm really shocked. The moral to his story can be read as "Yeah, the world suck, innocent children die because of our shitty systems but lol new God's? Don't try to be a hero or a blonde man. You die faster.")I can't help wondering if the cost of my entertainment is coming at the cost of human lives because I know it is, and that sucks but not as much as living through actually war where your small native community is being attacked by an army backed by the biggest global superpowers and histories biggest colonizers.
On that note, and this is actually petty comparitivly, casting the Black haired, green eyed, OLIVE SKINNED protagonists of your story as a blond haired blue eyed white guy just FEELS LIKE WHITE WASHING! He's from a part of New York that's known to have a high Latino and Asian demographic, I know he's never stated to be any race... but that stings. It's not Rick's choice exclusively probably and I'm sure the best actor for the role got the job (DO NOT BULLY THE CASTS OF TV SHOWS BECAUSE THEY DON'T LOOK THE WAY YOU WANT! LOOKING AT YOU LEAH HATERS YOU RACIST MOTHER FUCKERS DON'T KNOW THE PAIN I'VE GONE THROUGH AND NEVER ONCE DID I THINK "I'm gonna bully Walker Scobel about it")I blame Disney's oversight because Hollywood loves casting white actors as the leads of stories when the evidence in the source material points in every other direction. At the very least, the race blind casting for the rest of the cast at least gives POC actors opportunities to work. Mildly salty that the desi guy (I'm Desi) got the Disney famous "POC folk as animals/ transformed into animals/ not entirely human" treatment but Grover Underwood is indeed The Goat so I'll count my blessings about it. Walker and Aryan could have switched roles, and frankly, I think the story would be the same if not better for it.
Petty shit: he's really bad at writing POC characters. I've heard complaints from basically every demographic he's represented that he relies too much on stereotypes when depicting other cultures in an attempt to be inclusive (you really didn't need to make Sam marry her cousin to show you support Muslim culture. That feels gross for so many reasons. Fuck it this story is ripe with incest by nature might as well at that point, I guess.)
If he's my uncle, he's my weird dierogitory uncle, but at least he's not my transphobic aunt... could really do without some shit though.

20 questions for fic writers :)
Not tagged specifically but it came across my dash with a 'tagging everyone' and that includes meeee! (I think I've actually done this meme before but I don't remember it exactly. And I love filling out questionnaires, so whatever lmao)
Tagging: Everyone! Everyone who see this :P
1. How many works on AO3?
165 on main… and 9 on my RPF account from high school LOL
2. Total word count on AO3?
1,254,112 wowza! Most of that word count is from 2020 onward lol.
3. Top five fics by kudos?
We Who Have The Souls - HxH - 773 kudos
The Horror Not To be Surveyed - HxH - 717
Amethyst Remembrance - HxH - 552
Suppositions - The Walking Dead - 514
Ash is Purest White - TSOMD -191
4. What fandoms do you primarily write for?
Currently: Oz
In the past: The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty, X-Men (comics), Hunter x Hunter
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to now. In the past, because I used to write without really being  "in" fandom or knowing anyone, I didn't realise people expected you to lol. I thought as a writer, you did your thing, someone commented if they thought it was at all worth saying anything about, and then you just went on your way like two ships passing in the night.
6. Angstiest ending?
Probably When Tomorrow Comes because the POV is tortured and beaten and dead by the end :)c I actually cried IRL when I wrote this one. Ahh, good memories! Out of my Oz fics… (squints) Dead Man Walking, maybe? Although I think it's open-ended, too, so maybe it's not that angsty. Maybe Terror Makes a Sour Meal, idk. OH. The Death of Jaime Velez. Doi.
7. Fic with the happiest ending?
You know, I write a lot of angst but there's also a ton of happy endings. I guess the happiest is probably the sweeter the sun (wedding fic) or for Oz?? It'll probably be Silver Moon's Sparkling, just because in my mind, it's basically a romcom.
8. Do you get hate?
Not on my fics (not enough readership + I am a perfect human being) but I've seen people vagueing me in fandom tags before for, idk, hyping up rarepairs and side characters too much (skill issue on their part frankly).
9. Do you write smut?
Yes :) I published my first attempt at smut (very vague frottage I think—idk, I refuse to reread it) June 2020, and have been incorrigible ever since.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Not currently, but I've played around with them in the past! My first two fanfics ever were crossovers 💀Harry Potter x Twilight, I'm sad to say.
11. Ever had a fic stolen?
Not technically, no, but I had some fics translated and posted to another site with no link back to AO3, which is not what I thought the person was going to do when they asked me. But… Oh well…
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
A couple! 6—that I know of—to Russian (TSOMD fics) and then one to Chinese (an HXH fic :))
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yes… But I took myself off as an author so now it's just on their account 😂 It was from middle school and also a 4 fandom crossover event including Superwholock, soooooo…
14. All time favorite ship?
Whatever is my main hyperfixation tbh, so I'm going to say Miguel/Chico! I don't really have ults of anything in life (colors, movies, books), and that includes ships.
15. WiPs you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
The Nineteenth Year of Chenghua, my zombie apocalypse fic based on the finale cliffhanger (why did they go so hard with it, knowing there'd be no s2???) 😔
16. Writing strengths?
Dialogue? I feel like I do a decent job/have been told I write banter and other verbal exchanges pretty well. Plot, I hope, is also becoming more of a strength, where before it was a weakness.
17. Writing weaknesses?
Description is something I'm always trying to improve—and using more *descriptive* words as well. I think I get stuck in using the same vocab over and over. Reading other works helps shake me out of that pattern a bit, but I haven't been much of a fic reader in past years (I keep stepping into small fandoms lol), and poetry can only take a guy so far… This year, I've been trying to get into audiobooks to help me listen to more sentences and learn from a wider range of examples 😂
18. Thoughts on mixed language dialogue?
My takes on this are kind of changing, but for the most part, if the characters are bilingual with part of it in English, I like making the effort of researching the non-English language and placing it in, with translations through hover text. For my TSOMD fics where the language is Chinese but my story is English, I write titles and words with no English equivalent in pinyin, i.e, du-gong, da-ren, zhihui-shi, etc, instead of blanket terming them all as Your Excellency, or whatever.
I did try a different approach with Recognition of Another when there was English and Chinese being spoken. I didn’t want to write out everything as pinyin, so for the longer sentences, I wrote it in Chinese (which is obviously gibberish to non speakers/readers) and then wrote the English in italics next to it. Still not sure about that approach… I have an Oz wip as well where it made more sense to put all the “Spanish” in Italics since there was so much of it, but there was also English I wanted to differentiate. When there is a character in the scene who doesn’t speak Spanish, I then wrote the dialogue in Spanish like for most of my fics.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Harry Potter :S
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
I'm quite proud of several of the fics I've written recently for various reasons, technical and creative, buuuuut Knuckle Down at the moment, just because of how many times I've reread it myself 😂

Autistic Anime Boys Side A Round 1 Match 12
Tumblr media
Propaganda:
Ishimaru -
"His title is "Super High School Level Hall Monitor" or "Ultimate Moral Compass" (depending on which translation we are going with). He was literally scouted by Hope's Peak Academy because he is very best at being the best boy. He is so hell bent on being the best student possible, that when the killing game starts his first concerned with not being able to attend classes. He's so hard working that he struggles to socialize with his peers (which is very relatable). When he tries to step in as the class leader, everyone else ignores him (which is also relatable). He naturally talks loud and doesn't seem aware of how strongly he comes off when talking to others. But even when he is scolding someone for their misbehavior, he does so because he wants to bring out the best in them. Kiyotaka puts 300% into everything he does on principal (and because he feels like it is his duty to restore his family's name). Many of his Free Time events center around him trying to figure out the "logic" in what other people do (such as why they would spend time playing video games/watching TV or why Makoto wears his jacket when it is against the school's dress code). Ishimaru Kiyotaka is easily one of the most autistic-coded characters in the Danganronpa series."
Nanami -
"One of the secret society of people with magic powers who destroy cursed spirits. Mentors the teen protagonist for a bit.
In this introductory episode, he says, "I don't praise or disparage anyone. I adhere to facts and judge in that basis. That's who I am. There was a time when I mistakenly believed society operated the same way."
and he's been clearly autistic ever since, routinely stating things such as "I hate abstract questions that leave interpretation up to others."
He's the Ex-Salaryman Jujutsu Sorcerer! Among a cast of shonen characters, he is the only guy who ever worked a normal job and he is so tired.
Ex-salaryman? Why didn't he become a Jujutsu Sorcerer from the start? "I studied at Jujutsu School, and one thing I learned… is that Jujutsu Sorcerers are shit! Then I worked at your typical company and one thing I learned… is that work is shit! If both are equally shit, I'll take the one I'm more suited to. That's the only reason I came back."
He always buys the same bread from the bakery, to the point where the bakery employee remarks upon it.
When he was still working for a Company, he tells the bakery employee:
"My job is to take money from the wealthy and make those people even more wealthy. That's pretty much all it is. Frankly, no one would mind if I was gone. People who wanted to eat bread would mind if their bakery was gone. Yet for some reason, my job, which exists outside that natural human cycle, pays better. When you think about it logically, it makes no sense."
He's great, he's the only Regular Dude in a world of Shonen Characters, and he is autistic. What more could you want?"

in theory I love the 'they both lost someone and found each other in grief' but I think that would diminish what they have. as if they're second best almost :/ that already annoys me a little with them bringing shannon back again and again (and again), with eddie thinking that's the only magic he ever had - when actually, they had quite a lot of problems
well I get that as a viewer you might feel like they are overdoing it, but the thing with grief is that it never goes away and sure, they had a lot of problems; getting pregnant at 18-19 is not a joyride.
raising a kid when you still don't even have an idea who you are is hard enough, but then add into the mix Eddie's military time and Shannon's dying mother and her having to deal with Eddie's parents and figuring out how to care for a kid with special needs on top of it all.
it was a complicated relationship, but after they reconnected, after Eddie allowed Shannon back into his life with Christopher (which again, Eddie was mostly absent for 6 years, Shannon was gone for like one by the looks of it and Eddie was the one "allowing" her back ugh lots to unpack there) he was happy with her.
up to the point where she wanted a divorce, so she could become the right person to raise Christopher before she tried to become the right person to be with Eddie.
it stung and it made him angry but then she died and the anger didn't go away, but it got caught up in the grief and excitement of love he was feeling just before and after.
the reason I'm going into this (though not in so much detail cuz then we'd be here until tomorrow) is to show just how complicated his feelings about Shannon are. now consider the fact that he has to see Christopher, a living, breathing reminder of Shannon every single day.
and he wants to do right by him and he thinks that'd equal doing right by himself too, because that's how it was with Shannon; they were high school sweethearts, they were married, they had a kid. it's the picture perfect family, especially when you look at it from a christian angle — which does seem to be something coming up for Eddie this season.
Buck on the other hand? he is everything Eddie wants and needs, but he's far from that picture. he's a guy for starters and at this point we don't even know if Eddie has ever entertained the possibility of something like that, then he is his coworker, which isn't exactly ideal, even though we as a fandom love to sidestep that part.
they have the bond, the affection and possibly the attraction, but for Eddie to see it that way, he needs to let go of the idea of the picture perfect family, that's step one.
and he can't do it until he lets go of the idea of Shannon too, which frankly (though I love what they did with that season) I think would've already happened in s5 had Tim not left. so now he's working backwards as he's trying to fix the mess they made of all the characters' storylines in his absence.
but yeah, Eddie will always grieve Shannon, so it doesn't matter how complicated their relationship was objectively, that'll be a part of his endgame relationship no matter who it will be with and regardless of them also grieving someone as well or not.

crp/mh pride hcs
got inspired by a mutual (the-s1lly-corner) <3 i wanna have a silly post about my silly guys. under cut bc i might get long
jeff the killer
jeff feels very greyrom/aro bisexual to me, i think he "prefers" women because he doesn't wanna admit he's bisexual at first. idk if he explicitly uses the greyrom label or anything but it describes him pretty well. he/him
liu woods / homicidal liu
can we give it up for TRANSHETS!!!!!!! realized he was trans (ftm) at a young age, didn't get to transition until adulthood because the only family who supported him was jeff. mainly to hide from his past he's also stealth about being transgender. he/him
sully (liu's cohost and protector) is arohet i think? idk haven't thought much but i do think liu and sully have slightly different seuxalities. it/he (EDIT: its sexuality is also influenced by the fact that it's an introject of jeff)
jane the killer
lesbian and also trans mtf!!! transbian jane epic win. i think she knew for a while that she was a lesbian and then also realized she was trans in high school as she was going further through puberty. i think she's femme lesbian specifically??? she/her
nina the killer
bisexual (initially had a pref for women, now just has a pref for the glasgow killer, aka jeff), cis girl but LOOOOOVES experimenting with pronouns!!! she/her default but PLEASE use neopronouns on her she would literally die for you if you got wacky with it
ben drowned
even if he wasn't ethereally both 12 and 32 he would still 100% be aroace. that shit does not intrigue him! he also uses he/they pronouns, maybe it/its. lost their gender in the whole becoming a computer shit
ticci toby
transmasc nonbinary, biromantic asexual! he/him pronouns specifically, despite not being a man he really leans into masculine terms and also even is on T and gave himself top surgery! yes. to himself. don't ask. it looks awful. world's worst top surgery scars award
clockwork
Tumblr media
she/her. not butch not femme but a secret third thing (the butchest lesbian twitter can handle before getting scared /ref)
tim wright (two hcs)
normal hc is that he's biromantic aceflux! he doesn't really have a preference, frankly he's nervous about entering a serious relationship regardless of gender. his asexuality is kind of a roulette; he also probably falls between sex-neutral and sex-repulsed. he/him
"my house now" hc is that he's an intersex butch lesbian (not sure which exact intersex disorder but one of the ones i'm debating is something with 46,xx dsd?) that doesn't care about gender but uses he/him and masc terms because someone called him that and he was like "why not lol". he/him but frankly not offended if any other pronouns used
masky uses he/they in the first hc, it/its in the second hc
brian thomas (two hcs)
normal hc is that he's a gay man! discovered he was gay pretty early on in life and was probably tim's unofficial bisexual awakening back in college. very open about his identity, he's like the queer beacon in my eyes. he/him
"my house now" hc is that he's a lesbian and trans mtf! for the longest time she thought she was a bisexual man, but then in her late 20s to early 30s realized that not only did she feel like One Of The Girls(TM) but also that the only "man" she was attracted to was tim, who's not a man, so whoops! transbian time! she/her
hoodie uses he/it in the first hc, it/they in the second hc
jay merrick
trans ftm and bisexual! went on T but hasn't gotten top or bottom surgery before becoming the nefarious skully or whatever. cracked his egg in college, but probably figured out he was biseuxal in high school. he/him
skully uses no labels just vibes. queer/abrosexual and genderfluid are probably the labels that best describe them but again they don't fucking care. they/them default but sometimes uses others depending on which of their "many" are at the forefront
jessica locke
now if that's not the biggest lesbian i have ever seen in my life... her and taylor absolutely get married in lesbians after the comics are over. jessica probably always knew she didn't like boys but didn't realize she liked girls until a fateful sleepover in middle school or something. she/her
nothing specific for the others rn, might make a part 2 if i come up with more <3 adios

Hi! Sorry for randomly dropping anon into ur inbox, but I’m kind of in love with ur oc’s and I was wondering if you could tell me more abt Ilya? Ik u said they’re just some guy from Penn state and for some reason that really intrigues me lol.
Never apologize I love anons and I'm so flattered you like my little guys. Also sorry this is gonna take a minute and there will be many typos cause I'm typing one handed on my laptop while eating an icecream/my cat tries to steal my icecream bar, not that you needed that info
ANYWAY litte recap on Ilya:
22 years old
5'5
he/they, transman
youngest of 4, has all sisters
Played for Penn State
Now plays for Olympic Court
Goalie
Number 7
I haven't decided on what he majored in yet
Yeah he really is just some guy. He's the only athlete really in his family. One of his older sisters ran track in high school, but otherwise their family is full of musician. Dad is a middle school orchestra teacher, mom is a music professor, his sisters all went into the arts. He can play a, quite frankly, ridiculous amount of instruments and he enjoys them all but he's not particularly passionate about it.
His parents signed him up for little league exy because he saw exy on the tv once and wouldn't shut up about it/was begging them to play. His parents just wanted all of their kids to be happy so they caved very quickly and Ilya developed an intense passion for the sport that obviously never went away.
Ilya's oldest sister (Liliya) is 7 years older than him, the other one 4 years older (Kateryna or just Kat), and the sister after (Tanya) that only a year and a half older. They're all incredibly close despite any age gaps while also very much having a dynamic of lovingly bullying each other
Ilya kind of always knew he was trans and they were always in a safe space to express it. His parents used to joke that they had "3 girls and an Ilya" and they didn't even bat an eye when as a kid he went straight for the "boys clothes" and asked to be called a prince instead of a princess and only responded to being called a boy. At school it was different, in elementary school other kids didn't care but the teachers could be weird about it, and then as a teen other kids started getting mean about it. But his parents and their sisters were always accepting and they filled their house with enough love that Ilya never thought about being closeted or pretending to be someone he wasn't.
He gets recruited to Penn State's team as their starting goalkeeper as an openly trans athlete. His team's respectful for the most part. There are some people who just don't seem to get it, but they're never outright rude or transphobic to him. There are sometimes snide remarks and something Not Cool said on accident and Ilya is always quick to correct it and most of his teammates are decent enough to apologize and try to do better
And he talks A Lot about being a trans and generally queer athlete. He's happy to be one of those people out and proud for everyone who can't be. Ilya has always, unapologetically, taken up space. Not even focused on his queerness, just in the way he exists as a person. If he's in a room you're going to know he's there and you're probably going to know their every thought as well.
They care a lot and they take everything to heart. They're very much a "don't cry cause you'll make me cry" type of person. He's much more willing to take on people's pain and share their burdens than he probably should be.
And he has zero filter. While he's absolutely paving the way as a queer athlete and he has a lot to say to the press about that his press time also has to be limited because he will just say shit. He has insulted other teams, insulted specific players, shared information that he definitely shouldn't have, said "fuck" on camera too often to keep count, and a lot more. He is keeping the Penn State vs Edgar Allan Ravens twitter discourse alive and well with all the shit that comes out of his mouth
He makes his best friend his junior year. She's a sophomore named Alice and she's a defensive dealer. Her sophomore year she comes as trans, MTF, and Ilya is the first person she tells becuase he's one of the only queer people she knows. After that they're pretty much attached at the hip and Ilya would kill and die for her. Her family isn't super accepting so he takes her home with him for the holidays. His family becomes hers and they're more than happy to add one more girl to the family.
Ilya makes court right after he graduates and it's with Jude, Em, Mara, Florian. you know the drill at this point. They're the ones I never shut up about. And I think I'll largely be repeating myself and I don't want to be annoying with that so we'll stop there
Some other fun things about Ilya though:
he never learned how to ride a bike. he will never ride a bike. fuck no (he fell over and scraped his knee once and despite all the balls to the head playing exy that was his breaking point for some reason and he never got on a bike again)
he's a cat person
he teaches Florian ASL and it's the main they talk to each other cause Florian likes to go nonverbal
they were such a huge fan of Jude it took everything in them to not be starstruck when the two first met
the two instruments they stuck with were the violin and the piano
they have an addiction to strawberries
is almost always playing jazz music on a vinyl when they're home/have people over
he has a shitty autograph and Flor has begged him to "get better handwriting" since he signs so much stuff but he's fine with it being an unreadable disaster (Florian's autograph in comparison is gorgeous)
he is an unapologetic foxes stan after they win finals
