Notes - The start of this book laying out where the dynamic lies with everyone is so interesting. It starts out with Stevie being distant from her parents, and in turn, spending time with Nora. When she loses her memories, she works hard to get them back. I like the journal entries that Nora writes, as it brings a different format to the book. It’s really cool. Stevie going through the process of regaining her memories was so interesting, and seeing how she didnt regain them easily was so cool. Stevie's mom lying about her past is such a bittersweet moment. It makes sense that she wants to hold onto what small relationship she has left with her daughter now that her memories are gone. She just wants her back, and i can imagine she'd be accepting of her daughter one day no matter what. The relationship between Nora and her mom is really fascinating to me because it's not your happy go lucky, and it's not outright physical abuse until it is. It's cold, and neglectful, and demeaning, but still a parent. still providing. enough to make you think theres nothing wrong, while everything is obviously wrong. its amazingly played out, and shows why Nora originally wanted to run away with Stevie. The discussion of being Asian was a topic i wasn't expecting to be addressed in a book about amnesia, but i think it was beautifully addressed. I love subtle and loud representation, basically just representation of all forms. Seeing writers and artists in general get their voices out there and heard is so important to me, and i'm glad that Alyson was able to do so with her book. Stevie finding the shoebox and realizing she's gay, but not ACCEPTING that she's gay is such an interesting route to take. Nora wanted to tell her, but she was scared. It's understandable. Stevie on the other hand just can't accept it now that she's reconnected with her old life. The compulsory heterosexuality happening with Stevie is also beyond cool to me because not a lot of people address this in the discovery period of sexuality. It's hard to accept or even realize its happening, and forcing yourself into relationships only harms you further. Ryan being a sweet guy and accepting is the best outcome that couldve happened and i love and adore it so much. He's such a cutie pie and i love that he's just understanding of whats happening, and it gives Stevie a safe space to accept herself. She finally does, and the relationship between Nora and Stevie is so sweet! Theyre adorable with each other, and i love how theyre written. So cute, and pining, and just lovely. Mrs Martin catching then having sex was the craziest thing that could've happened because she's such an aggressive person, she's literally the worst person who couldve found out. Her attacking them is so insane and i feel so much remorse for Nora. The reveal that Stevie already told her mom that she's gay and that thats why they grew apart was expected but also a good reveal. The seeds were sown and it makes sense. Talking about the reality of abuse in this book was also a beautiful thread to sow throughout the novel. I loved how it was played out with Nora running away (getting kicked out really) and staying with Ryan. Stevie then makes the plan that, now knowing her mom doesn't accept her, that she DOES want to go to California with Nora. It's a sweet gesture, and it's the fact that they fell in love TWICE that does it for me. They were truly meant to be!! The last day of the family being together and the note she left her parents was so emotional, it made me cry. I can't believe this is how Stevie wanted it to end. The reveal that her parents show up at the airport and support her is so sweet. Its different when it affects you personally, when its a family member who's gay. it changes things. sometimes for the better, in Stevies case, or for the worse, in Nora's case. Nora has a new safe space with Stevie's family and i think that is beautiful. They go off to UCLA, and Stevie's parents support them. It's so sweet, and i loved the ending so much

were scenes romantically coded through emotional music, color pallets, and/or close ups?

was there a straight relationship with one of the characters that was shown drastically different through the lighting, framing, music, color pallets, etc?

did they subtly associate either or both of the characters with things like rainbows and open closets?

did the original score have questionably titled tracks that alluded to any romantic feelings or being closeted that played during scenes of the two characters?

did they reuse any tracks from the original score that were previously used with a canon established couple?

were there subtle parallels between the two characters to established couples?

were the characters often placed next to each other while other canon couples in the same scene were also placed next to each other?

now if we’re talking about behavior alone, did either character have questionable or rude behavior that could have been a result of internalized homophobia? i think of queerbaiting more so of just alluding to two characters liking each other but if you were queerbaited, were there any clues to the character struggling with or questioning their sexuality too?

if there was a straight relationship with one of the characters, did it seem forced or like the character was trying to be someone theyre not?

did the dynamic between the two characters change because one of them was suddenly ignoring them or attempting to ignore them? was there ever an explanation for that?

did a character ever say something that could be considered homophobic but could have also been a result of projecting their own internalized homophobia?

-ramen water (the name and general concept) has been in my head since january + when i was vaguely thinking about splat 3. it's my sworn duty to put a character in a situation! here's some fun stuff about his name though

(after that ramen water became a subtle nod to him being 25% japanese. oops!)

-lily and sunny appeared out of the ether when i first started getting into splatoon; there are vague agent 3 headcanons on my blog that pre-date them being around as characters, but lily, sunny, and amy kind of manifested with each other. sunny's squee-g phobia was one of the first things i decided about him, and there were running jokes about amy being like a vsco girl because that stereotype (?) was popular at school at the time. lily's always been lily..... i remember associating her with the corocoro shirt since forever ago, so that must have been one of her first design choices :]

interesting fact about lily is that i used to be adamant that she not have post-sanitization heterochromia, and then forgot. so when i retconned that, her right eye color fades back to blue over time as the sanitation in her system flushes out

-atlas was created for the express purpose of a now-disbanded agent trio, and the first things in existence about them were their name (it was one i was considering when i was transitioning) and them being a little brat. they're awful by design. also the acne, that was very important to me

-dolly was first inspired by buds of mine who were interested in a zine about splatoon ost gijinkas, so she was first and foremost a gijinka of #14 crush. and i wasn't originally interested in making a song oc of my own UNTIL she came to me unprompted during a road trip! showing up loud and unannounced. dollycore

k'oto met emet-selch the same way every wol does during shb, thats one part of their story that stays the same lol, k'oto defeats titania and returns t othe crystarium and there he is to introduce himself and be a bastard as he is like to do! there was always a weir dtension between them, they were sorta drawn to each other for azem reasons and other reasons i cant talk about without spoiling endwalker but yeah even though they were kind of gently antagonizing each other they couldn't help but try and hear each other out..any dialogue option where the scions ask wol what they think about emet selch and the stuff hes saying k'oto is always "i believe him and/or trust him for some reason" even before they were like. full on in love <3 K'oto tried really hard to ignore that he was like gently crushing on him but emet-selch was always subtly flirting with him and making it really hard to like even before their first night together emet was always doing that thing where he touches k'oto in little subtle ways to get a reaction out of him and looking at and speaking to him in a very Certain Way that was impossible for k'oto to ignore and thats why it just kept building and building until that night emet saved y'shtola and k'oto just couldnt take it anymore and called himto his room <3 tldr enemies to hate fucking to lovers extremely quickly bc theyre soulmates :)

i honestly dont think too much about apollo bc i consider him and k'oto different characters…like yeah whatever theyre technically the same guy the only difference being sundering but WHATEVER….he and hades' story is pretty borning compared to emetkoto, they were just kinda childhood friends who met while attending whatever school ancient children went to who met when apollo decided he wanted to befriend the weird grumpy loner and started forcing himself into his life until it worked and htey became inseprable lol! somewhere along the line they met hythlodaeus and he joined hte group but it was always kinda hades/apollo and then also hyth. they werent a throuple really, hyth was a casual but otherwise uninvolved third who was happy watching his friends be in love :) apollo and hades were married after graduating and were soul bonded and all that until the final days when apollo peaced out for whatever reason idk (again i have trouble attaching to characters who have been dead and gone long before the story even starts so his story is prety ????) and they kinda broke up pretty dramatically!

ryu and sherlock would know When someone is akumatized but not who, so theyd have to investigate together using their respective powers over several investigations... because theyre adults they dont need to keep recharging but because everything is a lot more subtle it would still take them a while to figure stuff out

still thinking about chemist sherlock and thats what he does in the daytime, as part of the forensics team! and he tends to act timid and quiet and observant and very unmemorable even if he does terrific work, and ryu would be crushing on him over that?? and then he takes on more of the Great Detective persona when he is cat noir and gets to put all the info he collects in his daily life to good use while being silly and insufferable as we know him, but ryu as ladybug would slowly warm up to it also, as he does in canon

ryu fits well into the second gen immigrant thing marinette has going on, and idk if id want him to be a lawyer AND get a ton of evidence from being ladybug, or being a penniless writer who also works at his parents bakery and sherlock is a regular there and thats how he started crushing on him, BUT when hes ladybug he gets a taste of the lawyer spirit of investigating and maybe even protecting people who are wrongfully under suspicion of akumatization

so sherlock still rly likes ryu AS ryu bc wow cute baked goods provider, will sit with me when its not busy and they chat up a lot and ryu is just fucking smitten

I love Bakugo the most and I have a lot of work to do today, so I hope you don’t mind if I give him the special treatment! The others will just be headcanons. I don’t know enough about Sero to write for him, so apologies for that. And I couldn’t think of anything substantial for Mina apart from her being cute about it. 

Bakugo will never be as drunk as you. This is a limit he sets for himself under the guise of feeling like he needs to take care of your messy ass. He deems himself as the pack leader for the Bakusquad so responsibility falls on him to get you home safe. In truth, he is just far more overprotective of you than anyone else. Anyone with half a brain can notice that he doesn’t take care of his bros the way he takes care of you. He can be snappy and he berates you for getting too wasted, but he secretly thinks it’s cute when you cling to him like a helpless sloth and giggle in his ear while he scolds you. 

“My head huurrttss,” you whine, burying your face in his neck as he carries you to the car. “If I tell you a secret, will you stop yelling at me?” He rolls his eyes, and in between the merciful moment of silence he affords you, you slur out your confession. “I looove you.” 

He is unfazed, outwardly at least. You are too drunk to catch the subtle way his entire body freezes and how his heart starts to race, but he can’t afford you to notice lest he say something stupid to his inebriated crush who has no control over their reasoning right now. He can’t bring himself to believe it. Drunk people say stupid things all the time. A good night of sleep will bring you back to your senses and neither of you will speak about this again. He spends the rest of the way barking at you to cut off your chances of saying anything embarrassing further, doubling down on being the mom friend no one deserves. A quick glance through the rearview mirror shows you huddled up in his jacket and sleeping soundly, as though his voice were a pleasant lullaby as opposed to a supersonic boom. There goes his stupid heart, fluttering again. 

The following morning, he acts as though nothing happened. The others are still passed out in their rooms so you have the pleasure of stumbling upon Bakugo cooking up a hearty breakfast. You don’t have the chance to speak before he is shoving gatorade and advil in your face. 

“Do you remember what I said to you last night?”

He freezes. “You said a lot of stupid shit. Dunno.” 

“I’m supposed to be the one with the foggy memory,” you tease, grinning as he whirls around to glare at you. “I meant what I said, Bakugo.”

“About cucumbers not being the same thing as pickles?” 

“About loving you.”

For once, he is awkwardly silent. The sound of oil popping in the frying pan makes you wonder if that is a good representation of what is happening in his head right now. Maybe starting off the day with a love confession isn’t the best way to go about things, but you wanted to get through to him before he spends the day building up an impenetrable wall around his heart. 

The moment passes quickly. Bakugo is nothing if not resilient, and oh so stubborn. He turns away to flip the bacon, ruffling the back of his head in a pensive gesture. “I love you too, idiot,” he murmurs, and he isn’t even all that surprised at how easy it was to confess. Not after how long you’ve known each other, not after all the moments you have shown each other your love in all but name.

Kirishima is pleasantly buzzed when you blurt your confession out at him, and he somehow feels more drunk than ever for the rest of the night. Drunk on love, perhaps. His heart is about to break through his ribcage with you looking so innocently at him, to the point where he thinks he needs to harden his chest to keep himself sane. This is his dream come true. There is nothing he has ever wanted more than to feel you hugging him the way you are now. His arms are safely wrapped around you and he is so damn dizzy and speechless. A part of him isn’t sure if he should believe this. Maybe you were teasing him, or maybe this isn’t how you really wanted your confession to happen, maybe you didn’t really mean it, who knew. Even though Bakugo always told him that drunk minds speak sober thoughts, Kirishima wants to give you the chance to reaffirm your love when you are in control of yourself again. All he can do is press a kiss to your forehead to assuage you, holding you in comfortable silence even as the music blares around you both. 

Kaminari is just as wasted as you and twice as in love. It’s surprising that he hasn’t confessed to you first, really. But once you spill the beans, it’s a wrap. He has the biggest smile on his face and you are pretty sure he is moments away from tearing up. Prepare to get tackled and hugged as he loudly professes his love right back at you. He is a lovesick puppy who wears his heart on his sleeve and nothing is holding him back from showing you how much he cares about you. Congratulatory drinks are in order, according to him. You party the night away even more eagerly than you had before, clinging to each other and being sloppy, messy idiots in love. And he is going to make out with you so thoroughly that you will lose the ability to breathe.

i think the biggest positive trait of a prince of hope would be the fact that they are most completely grounded in reality. in many ways they would be skeptical and more prone to atheism, and usually would be more into fact above fiction; which is completely fine! the problem is that they tend to ... ruin it for others, and can be incredibly negative.

also, realistic =/= logical. that needs to be said about them; as they’re ghosting rage, in good words they might be extremely instinctively or emotionally driven, just as a lot of princes tend to be depending on aspect. they can easily be very jealous or angry when people have other ideals than them, and will openly be disrespectful to religious/”hopeful” people a lot of the time, to the point of genuine aggression.

in a lot of ways, a prince of hope CAN be very prideful, specifically with their own beliefs. princes have a tendency to hate themselves, but still think they’re better than everyone else, because they’re “right” and other people are blind to it. and that, of course, is a major flaw; destroy within moderation. let people have fun with their beliefs. let people enjoy things. laughing in their face when their hopes and dreams are crushed only wrecks relationships and leads people to believing youre an asshole.

these people are the smug atheist types, honestly. they act more cynical and outwardly depressed, and will always tell you that your hopes and optimism is wrong, while being self-aware enough to point out how they’re bad, too.

self-awareness isn’t always a shield, because you’re ghosting rage and being truthful to yourself. but are you making an effort to change? are you using this to guilt-trip and manipulate? look a little deeper and think about how berating yourself emotionally effects you and the others around you; and if you realize people are trying to reach out and help, let them. the more you say things, the more you realize theyre true. and smarter people will take you pointing out your own flaws as a red flag. be careful.

a lot of the time, people WANT to help you, and people WANT to be optimistic. just because your beliefs on how the world works doesnt align with theirs doesnt mean they’re deserving of pain. you aren’t either. accept help and find people that share your values, while also being completely open to new ones.

prince of hope’s values as a friend; they tend to be very fun to interact with when you catch them in a good mood. they at least try to be very logical and solve issues while detaching their own emotions, and in a lot of ways are capable of telling you when your optimism gets you too far. a fully developed prince of hope can point excessive amounts of the aspect they despise, and that’s what makes them so useful; they may work as a balance to your hope, and can stop you when youre lost in your own head for too long.

not to mention, if youre correct about it, these people can be WONDERFUL communicators. even if theyre difficult to connect to emotionally, as long as youre blunt with each other, it’s very easy to convey what you need from each other and set boundaries. it just depends on a lot of factors and the current spot theyre in when it comes to their personal growth. they want you to be honest. be honest. 

things to watch out for when youre befriending one; you really, really need to be blunt with princes. not that theyre socially or emotionally inept; just that if you dont sugarcoat things with them, they won’t be able to completely process and take you to heart. if youre subtle and try to ease them into criticism, they may ignore it completely, or not understand what youre trying to convey sometimes. and if they continue to ignore it when you ARE, that’s not the type of person you want to surround yourself with. it’s an issue ive seen in a lot of princes, so that’s my main advice; if theyre not going to mind you or your boundaries or troubles, theyre not healthy for you.

they may lack empathy in a lot of situations. that’s something to expect; they’re not the kind of person to guide you through a very emotional situation, so you may need to communicate it in a way they can understand. be kind, but know that sometimes you need to step outside of your own boundaries to be more forward with them, because they won’t get subtlety like you will. communication is easier if youre clear about it. in fact, they may value that honesty, considering that theyre ghosting rage. 

if you dont loudly communicate your boundaries as soon as they prod at them, they will continue that behavior. that is a social cue they WILL have problems with because they lack the same sense of morality that others may have. if you allow them to constantly berate you as a joke the first time, they’ll constantly berate you as a joke repeatedly and be confused when you shut them down later down the line, for example. if you dont like it, DONT let them do it the first time.
