Shmi, Anakin and the Sun - Dragon
Often, however, Watto was unkind, understanding that nothing could stop him from doing what he wanted because Shmi had nothing valuable to trade, besides her son whom she would never trade. Thus, Watto took advantage of this frequently , requiring the boy to podrace, much to Shmi's anger. During one race, she watched in horror as Anakin crashed once again, but was surprised when he had not been thrown from his podracer for once. Watto approached her, yet again dismissing her concerns that Anakin could be seriously hurt before flying off. She made her way down to the racing pit where she reunited with Anakin and saw that his legs had become twisted from the crash. While she knew that Watto would pay to ensure his slave's legs recovered, Shmi held onto her son's hand to comfort herself. Before the rustic, yet effective, medical droids made Anakin unconscious to work on his legs, Anakin promised he would always be with her, yet Shmi privately wish he would one day leave her for a better life.
Despite the horrors in which Anakin grew up, Shmi still tried to give him a normal childhood. She taught him how to fix things and fend for himself, since the Republic was never there for her. She taught him that he deserved more than a slave's life. Most of all, she taught him compassion.
On hard nights, Shmi would tell Anakin the Tatooine myth of the sun-dragon. The sun-dragon was a beast who lived inside the core of a star, guarding everything it treasured. It could survive through the hardest circumstances because it had the biggest heart in the galaxy, able to protect anything and everything it loved. Shmi told this story to her son to remind him that he was the sun-dragon. She never wanted Anakin to doubt in himself and the power of his love for others. Anakin recalled this story many times as an adult when he needed to remember what should guide him. It was something he kept close and told very few other people.

I don't really know how to feel about the fact that Ahsoka has all these things that could help revive the Order, and she just doesn't share it with Luke who is actively trying to revive the Jedi Order. Like, Hyuang is with her as she goes on an intergalactic space trip, and she has holos of Anakin training lightsaber combat, which I would argue she doesn't really need.
And, idk, I wouldn't say it's selfish for her to have these things, that's not really fair on her, and I don't expect her to give them to Luke, but I do hope she shares that knowledge with him.

In your Luke Raises Rey au, does Leia ever forgive her father? (Also anakin saying he still loves Leia after she says she isn't calling him Dad is incredibly sweet.)
Also does Ben ever actually fully turn to the dark side? I think it would be super interesting to see a lightsaber fight Between him and Rey when he tries to take down Luke's training.
have so many questions haha.
haha u opened a can of worms here bc i LOVE talking abt leia and her super complicated family feelings and grief and whatnot <3 <3 <3
I think forgive's a very strong word to use around anivader loll -- ESPECIALLY with leia. i mean. he literally tried to torture her and was semi-responsible in the genocide of her planet (and genocide of her other ppl, if she started identifying w the jedi!) and countless other crimes like he's done some Heinous shit (and not even in the anakin's fun sexy warcrimes way just the straight up evil warcrimes) and they're not the kinda actions you forgive.
but forgiveness isn't the only path forward! I do think she makes peace w him -- or more what he is and what he is to her. like yes, he was her birth father but no that doesn't change anything about her, she's not evil, she can still be luke's sister without having the same relationship to their heritage. bail organa's still her actual father in every way that matters and she realises nothing about anivader's existence can change that
she can't go full jedi and let go of all the anger in her heart -- she's not luke, she can't make that ultimate peace or find any good in vader -- but I do think she does manage to let go of enough anger that she's not holding that unhealthy burning hate in her chest 24/7. it can't help her now; he's dead. so yeah, its not forgiveness, but it's something
and i think the skywalkers deserve nice things so no, Ben's not going evil or trying to obliterate the academy!! let the poor jedi live!!!!!! he's just a bit of an emo with very questionable taste in men. the knights of ren is just his space discord server or smthn

Luke blinked at this.
“I’m sorry,” he said. “You want us to meet in person with a Sith Lord who has been trying to kill me?”
“Not kill you,” said Piett swiftly. Veers glanced at him. “Our orders were to capture you alive on pain of death. You were not to be damaged at all if we could help it.”
Well.
Interesting.
“Do you know why?” Luke asked, rubbing his fingers over the hilt of his lightsaber.
Veers gave him a very cynical look.
“You imagine that Lord Vader shares reasoning like that with us, Skywalker?” he asked.
Luke sighed. He had already experienced too many near misses with Lord Vader hunting him. Surely he wasn’t the only Force sensitive that Vader could be hunting?
Unless—
Unless Vader knew .

in all honestly a resolution in ahsoka and obi wan’s relationship would be nothing but tragedy. meeting after order 66 wouldn’t go…well. there is immediate relief to see that the other is alive. just as quickly, there is guilt. obi wan’s guilt. he cannot bring himself to tell her that he is anakin’s killer. ahsoka sees obi wan’s depression. he looks hopeless and lost. the mentor she knew is gone forever. she sees the guilt in his eyes thinking it’s because he couldn’t save anakin. she tries to tell him it’s not his fault, he’s not alone, she loved him too, they can grieve him together— he won’t let her in. the obi wan she knew is gone; what can she do? she cannot help someone who does not want to be helped. he won’t talk to her about what happened and she doesn’t understand why. years later, she understands why. in horror, at last, she understands why. she’s questioning everything all over again. how can she trust herself? everything she was ever taught was taught to her by— him. obi wan, still nothing like his old self, but a little better, now, thanks to the purpose luke (and leia) have given him, runs into ahsoka again. he recognises her guilt, her grief, her doubt, immediately. her fear. her fear of herself. she knows. his belated attempt to be there for her isn’t the comfort he hoped it would be. it’s not that she’s angry. not at him. it’s just that she doesn’t believe him. not anymore. he tries to reassure her that she is not destined to fall into the dark side. all ahsoka hears are empty words. his belated belief in her is just empty now. you believed in him, too, she says, defeated. you always said we were so alike. give me a reason. any reason to believe in me that you haven’t once said about him.
and he can’t.
#obi wan#ahsoka tano#i actually think that the distance between obi wan and ahsoka in the rebellion era makes a LOT of sense#beyond ‘we can’t retcon the OT so… uh…they think that each other are dead’#ahsoka represents everything obi wan doesn’t want to confront after mustafar#and by the time he has healed enough to be ready#she is all grown up; grown away from him; and his voice is no longer the voice of counsel and reason she goes to for guidance#even after they both know the truth about vader#they’re not on the same page#obi wan leaves his confrontation convinced anakin is gone and vader is his killer#ahsoka leaves her confrontation with vader believing anakin remains. she tries to bring him out again and almost succeeds.#obi wan breaks the mask and sees anakin dead#ahsoka breaks the mask and sees anakin alive#they are not on the same page#i think obi wan can’t accept cader could be redeemable#because he can’t accept that HE can’t be the one to save him. he can’t accept that he’s not enough#but i think that ahsoka could. luke and leia could bring something out of anakin that she cannot just like they did for obi wan#no matter how hard he tries obi wan just can’t find the words to convery his faith and pride in ahsoka#putting his wholehearted faith into her means nothing after his wholehearted faith in anakin proved to be undeserved#how can he find the words?#he cannot#someone could#someone could remind her that she is able to let go; something anakin never could do; that she is more like qui gon now than her master#she embodies the true selflessness of the jedi; for she doesn’t prioritise lives based on how much she loves them but by their innate worth#you have mastered the very lesson that anakin could not; which led to his fall#someone could find the right words#but i don’t think that someone could be obi wan#because that would mean admitting that /anakin/ fell; it goes against the lie that vader killed him#OT era obi wan is still in denial#but i think ahsoka acknowledges anakin’s duality in a way obi wan can’t accept

Anakin & Mustafar
Anakin in Mustafar often makes me remember the movie Falling down(1993) my view on Anakin in ROTS is similar to what happens to the protagonist of that movie, just with the added science fiction/super natual elements of the darkside.
I believe Anakin´s fall to the darkside was a series of events and weakening of his will and character often executed by Palpatine but the slavery he suffered in his early years and the isolation and distrust he experimented at the temple played a part as well imo.
Vader at the end of ROTS after he is put in his suit and losing even his hability to breathe, the first thing he does is try to ask for Padme and if she is well, this always looked to me like someone who is just getting back his bearings after a night of total breakdown and darkside destruction but instead of having someone who has his best interests in mind, he has Palpatine who is just trying to make sure his fall was complete, trap him into the Empire system and make him stay with him out of crushing guilt and desperation.
Tumblr media
If Ahsoka or Padme did an intervention, I don´t believe Obi-Wan was in the right headspace to do this or would have been as open as them towards helping Anakin calm down right after the destruction of the Jedi temple and his own orders of killing him or as Yoda said, put Anakin out of his misery. Anakin had just destroyed his family and he had a right to be angry.
I believe if Padme and/or Ahsoka would have been able to take Anakin some other place and just stop and think, I am sure he would have gotten this same moment of clarity he had with Palpatine, felt a tremendous guilt for what he did and try to stop the Empire and Palpatine on his own by any means neccesary to make up for what he did just like it happened on ROTJ just some years earlier.
In fact I would not be surprised if he had a period of time in which he took suicidal missions, he did this during his first years as Vader while having the darkside as a sort of calming drug, without it his suicidal tendencies would have increased imo.
Tumblr media
But this is star wars and everything rhymes, what Luke did for Vader in ROTJ was bassically an intervention in which he made sure his father understood he still could turn back, make another choice and help save the galaxy from the Empire and his Master. I loved how the ROTS novel Rhymes with the end of ROTJ.
Because if ROTS ends with Anakin trapped forever in the flames of his own darkside, isolation and guilt with only the shadow for copany, Luke brought him back from that place with sheer love and stuborness and only that way, was he able to love his Son back as he deserved, love himself and remember his loved ones.

You know a gif set that I'd love to see someone in the Star Wars fandom with gif-making abilities make? A comparison between Anakin's dramatic free fall in AOTC and Luke's dramatic free fall in ESB.
It'd look a little something like this:
Row 1: Shot of Obi Wan lecturing Anakin about losing the bounty hunter vs. Shot of Vader giving Luke his whole 'come to the dark side' spiel.
Row 2: Shot of Anakin clearly not listening to Obi Wan as he's looking around and plotting his jump to go after the bounty hunter vs. Shot of Luke clearly not listening to Vader as he's looking around trying to find a way to escape.
Row 3: Shot of Anakin leaping out of the speeder and free falling through Coruscant traffic vs. Shot of Luke letting go and free falling down the shaft.
Row 4: Shot of Obi Wan's 'I hate it when he does that' reaction vs. Shot of Vader's reaction to Luke choosing to dramatically drop down that shaft, likely to his death, rather than join him.
It could have some sort of caption like: 'Like his father before him' or 'No blood/DNA/paternity test required'.

The worst trope? The smaller villain, the bigger villain used, turning good in the last second for plot convenience! I fucking despise it!
