Laswell: Lesbian or perhaps bi. Either way I think she started out dating men and had one evening with a woman and went "I'm gay now". Now she has a wife and is happily married. Definitely would sleep with her male friends if circumstances lead to it, but she’s very monogamous and wants her wife only.

Farah: She gives off a very woman loving bi but is dating Alex because he’s not like other guys she’s dealt with. The only other guy she would consider dating is Gaz, but she otherwise considers herself gay. Alex just happens to be the one type of guy she’s attracted to.

Valeria: This woman does not care about the gender of her bedmate. She’s very popular with the ladies and men think they can ‘sway’ her only for her to ruin them. She calls herself gay because she is not attracted to men in a straight way.

Alex: Straight, was so straight until he met Farah. Now he has no idea what he’s attracted to or who, just that suddenly a lot more people are attractive. Farah is his sexual awakening and he has no idea why or what she has done to him.

Ghost: Says he’s gay, proudly. Has slept with women before and will do so if circumstances lead to it, but he’s very gay. Closeted for a long time before he finally felt safe and comfortable enough to be himself.

Soap: Bisexual with a recent awakening. As soon as he realizes he’s attracted to men, he sees hot guys everywhere and is a mess. He’s a mess, can’t handle suddenly being attracted to almost everyone around him.

Gaz: He seems very straight at first but is actually very much pan. Attracted to every gender but just calls himself gay because he has more fun with it. Had an early realization and has had time to find himself and be confident. It’s no doubt he can charm anyone, he has done so unintentionally. No one is safe from his charms.

Price: He’s dated women in his past but he’s very attracted to men. Has had years to get himself together but can be downright embarrassing if he’s on friendly terms with someone he’s attracted to.

Alejandro: Bisexual, equally attracted to any gender. Once in an official relationship he’s loyal to a fault and possessive (in a tolerable manner). If he sees someone he’s attracted to, he’ll say it.

Rudy: Bisexual but leaning towards men. He’s very sweet towards people he’s attracted to but also is a blunt asshole to people he’s not. And when he’s very comfortable with someone he’s attracted to? Blunt asshole who can be a sweetheart.

Nik: He doesn’t care for labels. If he finds someone attractive, he finds them attractive. It’s that simple. He’ll sleep with pretty much anyone regardless of their gender identity. Calls himself gay just to satisfy people when they ask him what his sexuality is.

Graves: Gay with a very recent awakening. Always thought he was ace or aro or both in the beginning because he never was attracted to his women partners. Then he realized he was gay and now he’s insufferable. He understands now, and now he’s trying to get every experience he can as quick as he can.

After months of ghosting around the arcane fandom and reboot bombing my favorite fanfic authors, I was shocked to find that I gained a follower (marry me @sulkybender). This world-shattering experience sparked me into action and I have now decided I will finally contribute something to the fandom I’ve haunted for too long. 

So, as any sensible disabled fan would do, I am obviously going to make a much-too-long analysis post about our favorite disaster gay - Viktor. 

🚨DISCLAIMER🚨

⚠️I am speaking from the perspective of a disabled person who uses mobility aids and my personal experience, NOT as a health expert or professional. I have an autoimmune disorder which made me go from using a cane to a crutch and the possibility of a wheelchair. I’ve been thinking about making this post for a while, but please don't take offense or read too deep into it. Don’t like it, don't read it. ⚠️

ANYWAY

In the episode one intro, we meet our beautiful, crippled smart-ass, made of stone and holding a book upside down for some reason. We love to see it, Vik. When I tell you I almost had a heart attack when I saw a glimpse of a character with a cane, I mean it. I’ve never fully appreciated the importance of representation in media until I saw my boy V. Every time he showed up on screen, I was hooked on every word he said, every movement he made. Seeing a disabled character on screen, with lines? And important to the storyline?? I scrutinized his every movement to see if the artists weren’t going to screw this up. But my heart broke when I saw him using his cane on the wrong side. 

When you use a cane, you put it on the opposite side of your weaker leg. In Viktor’s case, he would use it on his left side, because his right leg is the one that is weaker. In his first appearance, he doesn't have a brace yet, but walks with a pronounced limp that hints to an injured leg. I sigh and keep watching, because counting my wins is more important than getting upset at tiny details. At least he has a cane. 

Fast forward to the timeskip between ep 3 and 4. Viktor is back, much to my excitement. I was expecting him to be a side character, the token cripple the writers use to get that representation gold star. But I was happily surprised by his return, and his role in HexTech. So you can imagine the excitement when I saw him using a crutch - on the CORRECT SIDE. It gave me such a serotonin boost I almost wanted to kiss Christian Linke on the mouth with tongue. (almost.) He also used a brace, showing that unfortunately his health was declining, but at least he was going about it correctly. Kind of. (Sorry, Sky.)

And, in episode 6, we get a flashback to Viktor as a little boy. Cute, but again, he used his cane wrong. It obviously is making him slower and doing more harm than good, which made sense given that doctors are scarce in Zaun and there was probably nobody there to teach him-

this made me pause. Of course he wouldn’t know how to use a cane correctly, how could he know? I exit the episode and go back to episode 2, where we first see Viktor. 

There he is, the king of sass himself. Using the cane incorrectly. But if you look closely as he turns, the cane wiggles. Stay calm people. Don’t freak out. I know its a small detail, blink-and-you’ll miss it moment, but hear me out. Nothing in animation is on accident. I would put a gif in here, but god hates me and my computer, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. Sorry.

I have experienced that god-forsaken cane wiggle more times than I can count. It happens when you put too much weight on it, and it affects your balance.

Did you catch that? Balance? What would Viktor know about balance? 

I’m running out of time here and I’m probably losing your interest. So let’s keep tugging along. 

long story short! I am forever indebted to Arcane artists and their attention to detail - as Viktor lives longer in Piltover and has access to health services, he learns how to take care of himself and use mobility aids correctly! An incredibly small detail that means absolutely nothing to the plot, but as I rewatch the show I feel immense gratitude to the artists and writers that thought about the little details, and by doing that they represent the educational journey that thousands of disabled people go through - including me. Like Viktor I had to learn the hard way what mobility aids to use and how to take care of my body, when nobody told me how. 

Am I projecting heavily on this poor man? Yes. Did you just waste time you could have spent doing something productive reading this? Absolutely. Am I insane? Probably.

First let’s get the “gay issue” out of the way. I’ve reported on both my radio and TV shows for 15 years that my wealthy, connected friends in Chicago have always said, “Obama frequented gay bath houses and gay clubs. Everyone in the know, knows Obama is gay.”

Now that we’ve heard from Obama’s biographer that Obama wrote about his daily gay fantasies, I think it’s pretty clear my Chicago pals were right. Tucker Carlson is onto something!

But gay is not the issue. The issue here is fraud. If Obama is in fact gay, then he was lying to the American people from day one. He portrayed himself as a happily married family man with a wife and two beautiful young daughters. That’s called fraud.

If America had known the truth in 2008, does anyone honestly think Obama would have been elected president?

But all of this is small potatoes. This is not the big story.

Why does any of this matter now? Because Joe Biden is a brain-dead puppet. This is the third term of Obama. The proof is we are all reliving the nightmare Obama economy. Great for Wall Street and billion-dollar multi-national corporations. But a disaster for the American middle class and Main Street.

Second, Biden is fading fast – and everyone can see it. At the same time Biden’s cognitive health is in freefall, all of his corruption from the past is pouring out of the closet. Biden is finished. He is toast. He will never make it to 2024.

Sometime this fall Biden will have a very public “episode” and be hospitalized. Soon thereafter he (or Jill) will announce he is stepping down for “health reasons.”

Who will replace him? Either Michelle Obama or Gavin Newsom. But whoever it is, Obama will be calling the shots from his nearby Washington DC mansion. That’s why this story matters.

I’ve had Obama pegged from the first day. Obama is the ultimate “Manchurian Candidate.” Gay is unimportant. What matters is he was groomed to be president by the Deep State and communist, fascist, globalist enemies of the United States. What matters is Obama is a radical Marxist tyrant carrying out the destruction of America.

Obama was tame in his first two terms. He was “boiling the frog slowly.” But Trump ruined his plan. Now Obama is trying to destroy this country as fast as he can before Trump has a second chance to undo the damage. And at the same time, Obama is coordinating the attacks on Trump to either imprison him, kill him, or disqualify him.

My guest on my show, “America’s Top Ten Countdown” on Real America’s Voice TV last week was former Illinois Governor Rod “Blago” Blagojevich. Blago’s Governor’s mansion was raided by an early morning FBI Swat team. Sound familiar?

I pointed out to “Blago” that Obama’s fingerprints were all over his frame job… and FBI SWAT raid… and long prison sentence. Obama set him up. Obama took away his freedom. I asked him to comment. Blago reported, “Obama set up the meeting that led to my arrest.”

Do you get it now? It’s the exact same M.O. as what’s happening to President Trump. The same FBI raids, persecution, frame job. The same weaponization of government to destroy Obama’s political adversaries.

I’ve always said the key to understanding Obama was his time at Columbia University.

First, there is the “Ghost of Columbia” mystery. I was a Pre Law, Political Science major. So was Obama. He had to be in all the same classes as me. But he was never in one class. I never met Obama, never saw him, never heard of him, never met anyone at Columbia who has.

Obama got in, so why didn’t anyone ever see him? My educated guess is Obama was in the Soviet Union studying communism. Columbia had a “sister school” in Moscow. That would be the only real answer as to why Obama was rarely if ever seen at Columbia. He was being groomed way back then by the enemies of America.

Secondly, at Columbia we learned a plan to destroy America called “Cloward Piven.” I’ll bet Obama spent two years in the Soviet Union at our “sister school” becoming the world’s expert. Look around. Everything happening in America today is Cloward Piven…

The open borders bringing millions of foreigners into our country, changing our demographics forever.

The explosion of welfare and bailouts.

The Green New Deal.

The destruction of our military.

The end of the dollar as world reserve currency.

The plans for pandemic lockdowns, climate change lockdowns and Central Bank Digital Currency.

The censorship, banning of dissent, and weaponization of government against conservatives and Christians. Defund the police.

The vicious criminals let out without bail.

Critical Race Theory and Transgender brainwashing.

Persecution of PTA parents.

Conservatives and Christians classified as “domestic terrorists.”

The arrest of political opponents.

87,000 new IRS agents.

It’s all about Cloward Piven and communist-level control.

Sound familiar? It’s what Obama the “Manchurian Candidate” learned in the Soviet Union from the best. This man was groomed from day one by the communist and globalist enemies of America. He was sent to destroy us.

Now he’s working behind the scenes to finish the job. He is the man who ordered the spying on Trump. The framing of Trump. Now he’s the man directing the nonstop government attacks against Trump. Just as he did to Blago.

he's a huge queen fan. you're telling me this guy was half-indian, bisexual (even if he probably wasn't aware of it) and grew up in 80s england and WASN'T obsessed with freddie mercury? wrong. eventually they get a radio in the office and whenever bohemian rhapsody comes on he tries to sing all the parts, much to edwin's confusion and amusement

he really missed going to concerts after he died but barely ever went to any because it wasn't the same going alone and he knew edwin wouldn't enjoy it, but once crystal joins the agency they go ALL the time it's their favourite thing to do. charles loves not having to pay for tickets anymore lmao

he tells dumb dad jokes all the time. he's only managed to make edwin really laugh twice but he'll be damned if he doesn't keep trying

i mean there are specific things, mostly the characters. they're all so distinct and individual and cool?? especially the female characters, i love that they're allowed to be a bit fucked up but still loveable and not villains (except esther and maxine obvs)

also so many people have said it but the way it handles queerness not like it's something other. like edwin still manages to have his realisation and coming out arc without it feeling like that's the only aspect of his character? i love queer shows that are like screaming gay in ur face (like heartstopper) but idk just the way it's so casual, and the way there's no labels or anything? like it's not a big deal or a shock that jenny's secret admirer's a woman, and charles's reaction to both edwin's coming out and his confession is so calm, like obviously it's a big deal but he's so chill, there's no jokes made or anything it's just pure love and support and i love that so much

and that's not even getting into how much i love the visual style of the whole thing

but yeah, the entire show made me happy. it also made me sob several times but that's all part of it. i love shows that make me cry.

I love a good gay cowboy fic and this is a GREAT one. The historically accurate lube made me cackle. This was so well written and so HOT and managed to maintain that wistful sadness Silva seems to have hanging like a cloud around him.

Desires and Complications - a Marcus Pike/Dave York series by @ezrasbirdie

Sweet little Marcus Pike wants to please you better in bed so he calls up your ex, Dave York, to show him how to be a dom. It goes a little differently than any of you imagined when Marcus turns submissive for Dave. This fic is so hot. Joel leaves you for Tess and that... well that's just unacceptable. We got dark!reader, asshole!Joel, murder, dub con for Joel, the works. This fic is so good. It's dark and gives you a fascinating look into reader's crumbling psyche. I love the ending so much also

I wrote Ouroboros and Eat You Whole. Dave York x f!reader fics set in the same universe, canon divergent but some canon stuff still happens in the background. Love as consumption/Love as violence type thing. Basically you and Dave are two touch starved, miserable people with nothing left in this world and you have crazy sex about it. There’s some softness in there too.

best bls with external conflict (conflict outside the relationship)?

Hum, this one kind of answers this but it's not been updated in a while:

BLs With The Best External Conflict  

Until We Meet Again (Thailand) - will probably always top this list. It’s a perfectly executed story, fantastic well seeded plot twists, and the only BL I would love to see adapted by other countries or read professionally translated. There is a lot of internal strife but the conflict is the result of the sins of the past, so I think it counts.

Color Rush (Korea) - I lost my mind over the allegory and the perfection of the story to the point of forgiving it certain other sins in stiffness and low heat. The world-building is too simple for it to play well to a SF/F genre only audience but it’s absolutely groundbreaking for BL. (Color Rush 2 continues the story and while I don’t like it as a BL, and the plot is somewhat typical, it’s still better than most.) 

He’s Coming to Me (Thailand) - such a clever take on both paranormal romance and the cohabitation trope, what I love about this is how closely the story and the supernatural conceits are married to each other. Basically boy and ghost move in together, fall in love while they investigate murder. 

HIStory 3: Trapped (Taiwan) - Taiwan often struggles with story structure but Trapped is different. It has a baby murder investigation that promotes conflict between the leads, so the romantic tension is between plot and character, it’s so clever.

Long Time No See (Korea) - Catfishing assassins on either side of a turf war who fall in love not knowing they are on opposite sides. Or do they? Good fight sequences, mature characters, high heat, very suspenseful, AND an HEA. If you like KinnPorsche you will LOVE this one.

Bad Buddy (Thailand) - This was GMMTV’s flagship BL and it started 2022 on a BANG (okay no actual banging but you know what I mean), starring heavy hitters Ohm & Nanon in a pitch perfect university Romeo & Romeo masterpiece that will give you domesticity meets pain whiplash throughout and jet lag at the end. The conflict is all family and friend pressure, some of which is overworked, but it has great production values, killer acting, and some conscious effort to correct for half a decade of Thai BL’s anti-queer mistakes. Full review.

Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korea) - this has a 12th Night meets Cinderfella feel to it, plus some great story tricks like a plot that requires a historical setting (I love it when narrative elements are codependent).

Triage (Thailand) - a “correct the past” Groundhog Day story, that has narrative baggage I normally do not like but is so clever about time loops, I have to forgive it my own hang-ups. About a doctor who must save a boy to fix reality, but not in the usual way. 

Not Me (Thailand) - GMMTV gave us a dark disestablishment narrative (in a time of civil unrest) with established queer award-winning director Anucha and starring the biggest guns of BL, OffGun and IT WAS AN AMAZING THING to get to experience at the time - nerve racking but remarkable. But was it ACTUALLY BL? It certainly has a lot of BL elements, but in the end romance was not what this show was about, or even what it was genuinely trying to be as a performance piece. Still a special moment in Thai cinema, certainly worth your time. Don’t worry, it all ends happily. Full review.

The Eclipse (Thailand) - GMMTV does gay Blacklist with a good boy/bad boy pairing. Starred First & Khaotung plus the side dish pair from FUTS NeoLouis. This is a good show but the cast was excellent and the leads were absolutely flawless elivating it beyond good. They gave us a nuanced and multifaceted burgeoning relationship: philosophical (and socio-political) conflict contrasted to moments of empathy; flirtation contrasted to moments of genuine affection. This narrative is less about love than it is about courage and tenderness. However, near the end the pacing was off and the plot frustrating. Still, this is an enjoyable watch, with an finale that features verbal consent and a funny blooper reel.

Original Content: The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)

Ship Info: The Haunting of Bly Manor is a show set in rural England where Dani (an American) goes to work as a nanny for two children – Flora and Miles. The children’s parents died and since then they have been in the custody of their uncle who works away from their home and leaves them in the care of the cook Owen, the housekeeper Hannah and the gardener Jamie. With their previous nanny Rebecca having been found dead, they needed a new nanny – enter Dani. 

Dani and Jamie meet at Bly Manor and start out a tentative relationship, with Dani still having trauma from the death of her ex-fiancé just moments after she called off their engagement. Dani sometimes sees his face and feels like he is haunting her and doesn’t want to taint her new relationship with this. Dani and Jamie have many cute moments together from Jamie calling Dani “Poppins” – after Mary Poppins – and calming her down from a panic attack to Jamie opening up about her childhood to Dani and shower her some of her favourite flowers.

Their relationship starts to blossom throughout the series and as soon as it starts to ger going seriously, as this is still is show about ghosts, it is interfered with by Dani nearly getting killed by a ghost and ultimately having to let the soul of the lady of the lake enter into her in order to save Flora’s life. Whilst in many shows that have sapphic characters this may have been the point in which Dani dies (typical bury the gays and lesbian’s trope), however Bly Manor does not do this. At least not right away. 

Following the last traumatic events at Bly Manor everyone moves away. The children’s uncle decides to take a more active part in their lives, Owen opens up a restaurant and Dani and Jamie move to America and open a flower shop. The following years of Dani and Jamie’s life are spent together happily, they move in together and cook for each other, and Dani proposes to Jamie. Although at this point in time (Bly Manor was set in 80s-90s) it was not legal for two women to marry so they enter into a civil union. At some point during these 10 years after the events at Bly, the lady of the lake (Viola) starts to make her presences more known within Dani. This starts to scare Dani as she does not want to do anything to harm Jamie and so she makes the decision to go back to Bly and walks into the middle of the lake and dies. 

We see Jamie wake up to Dani gone and realise that she has gone back to Bly. Jamie follows her but by the time she has gotten to the lake it is too late, Dani is already dead at the bottom of the lake. Jamie screams and tries to get to Dani but it is of no use, she’s already gone. The show ends with Dani having broken Viola’s curse, as now no one else at Bly Manor would ever be taken by the lady of the lake because she was different. “The lady in the lake was also Dani. And Dani wouldn’t. Dani would never.”. Even though Dani is dead, “dead doesn’t mean gone” and we see in the very last scene of the show - set many years later at Flora’s wedding – Dani’s arm on Jamie’s shoulder.

Type of ship: Canon Queer

The way the creators of this show chose to handle this relationship was beautiful. Even though it was set in the 80s/90s we do not see them experience any homophobia, we simply just see them living a life together. We get a montage of them being happy and settling down. We get to see them getting engaged and even though they’re not allowed to legally get married we still get to see them in a civil union instead of being completely disheartened. There are many period typical things the creators could have chosen to include in the show, however they didn’t they simply just let Dani and Jamie be happy. 

Although, the show does ultimately end with Dani dying and this could be seen as yet another addition to the bury the gays trope I think the way in one done here makes me think about it differently. I understand how it can be very disheartening as a sapphic character that we have become attached too has been killed off and this has been done so many times before that it has somewhat become expected but also there’s a sense of hoping that it wouldn’t happen this time. However, the fact that Dani and Jamie got more than 10 years with each other after the events I think is a great way to look at this because creators could’ve chosen to kill her straight away, but they didn’t. The death of Dani also makes sense artistically as the person who becomes the lady of the lake is destined to die – it happened with Rebecca and she for all intents and purposes was straight and in a heterosexual relationship. 

Therefore, I completely understand why people are still mad at the death of Dani as of course people are attached to this character and this relationship and it feels so unfair but I also feel that for some reasons her death also makes a certain amount of sense.

I have a gay pairing where one is a traumatized and quiet man and the other is a boisterous and confident man as well as one of my comfort straight ships where the man is shy and awkward and quiet and the woman is confident and witty and energetic.

At least they’re all British (sorry Soap, you are but you aren’t, joys of being Scottish).

And I have the battle of the fanfics where I’m working on an intense CoD fic for hurt/comfort Ghoap but I also want to write little drabbles where Lizzie and Fitzwilliam live happily in their married life and conspire to help Lydia off her bastard husband.

Don’t get me started on the P&P Au idea I had for a Ghost/Soap fic. (Actually do if you want, I love talking about fic ideas)

Anyhow, y’all, you ever have two completely opposite fixations battle royale in your brain?

Riffing off of my last post... I want to think about something! Or, introduce a thought....

first off, a magical spell to ward off evil. In your mind spins the image of the Yugi twins kissing peacefully, happy in their futon together... ahhhh! Okay... we resume now.

Perhaps this is obvious to some, but it might not be to others, so why not voice it.

I think valuing the gender of characters is your preference individually, there are preferences I have, too! Tastes, aesthetically, and such. But, to some extent, I think being rigorous and strict about avoiding say, 'male/female' relationships, or hating 'male characters', in the pursuit of loving queerness & loving women for example, can go a little overboard... ooonly in that, narratives are not always representing only what they appear as, and you can't be so sure what other people are representing in abstractions. This post is only for people who might feel sensitive about those abstractions-- if you don't have a care in the world, don't bother reading on...!

Here is an example, from a popular series many love. The Moomin novels are precious to me, I love the expressions of the author, Tove's, relationships and human experiences. Tove largely expresses herself through Moomin, a boy. She expresses her relationships with women AND men through that conduit. Ironically, the relationship between Moomin and Snufkin-- beloved by many!-- represents a 10-year love affair with a man in her life, Atos. While the story of Moomin and Too-ticky, is a representation of her relationship to her later long-term female partner, Tuulikki. I don't see fandom much explore or care about Moomin/Too-ticky, probably because it is M/F. I think that's kind of funny? I'm not here to make a judgement-- I write Snufkin/Moomin-- but, when I think about what people value in Tove VS what narrative they like in fiction, it's interesting that the real-life experiences influencing that fiction doesn't matter.

Meanwhile, a lot of female mangaka represent their traits through male characters. Arakawa connects to Edward Elric, and Yana Toboso projects a lot of herself into Ciel Phantomhive. While it's not stated as outright as all the other examples, I do believe Iro-sensei projects a lot of their personality into Hanako, and Aida-sensei seems to playfully draw Iro-sensei as Hanako, or embellish him with Iro-sensei's IRL habits.

We can look at a story like JSHK, and we can look at it literally as a story about ghosts and humans and such. Or, we can look at it thematically, and see a story about many, many more things we might relate to. Broad concepts of eschewing society's morals, strictures, or values (suchas Tsukasa), or following them to the point of pain (suchas Teru), who gets punished or forgotten and why, how to be happy in a world that doesn't care if you are happy (Hakubo, Sumire).... etc...

Hanako's struggle with Nene-chan, is that he cannot marry her, he cannot grow up with her, and 'has no future' with her. I would describe Hanako as chronically unable to conceptualize commitment for himself. At the start of the manga, this makes him a kind of playboy to Nene-chan-- flirtatious, harassing, but also closed-off. He sees his dynamic with Nene-chan as a temporary, short-term thing... a year of frivolity with a girl, something that can't 'go anywhere'. He can be capricious, but only because of a sense of hopelessness. This relationship cannot "go anywhere".

Much to be said about queer relationships being seen as 'a phase' in many cultures... something you do when young, but grow out of, moving into normative adulthood. I'm not saying that's the INTENTION-- but that you could happily choose to read it however you want, connect to it however you want.

I mean... gay marriage is not sanctioned across Japan... this concept of "a person you can play with a little when you're young, but never truly commit to" is a cultural concept there. It's interesting that when Nene-chan dreams, "I want to get married some day in the real world!", Hanako receives it as a rejection, and no longer plans to attempt to entrap her through bizarre, indirect circumstances.

Hanako can use strange, convoluted systems like making Nene-chan his kannagi, or binding her to him with the mermaid scale, to ensnare them together .... as much as you could uh, start a business with your lover, but perhaps not legally marry them. It's an interesting compromise, or as he says in Picture Perfect, 'I'm only using what I can'.

Picture Perfect is also about creating a fake fantasy world which fictionalizes everything into a saccharine and acceptable, normative fantasy one wherein Hanako is no longer a Mononoke, but the human, Amane. As Mitsuba says, "in this world, she can even marry No. 7!". What does it mean for Nene-chan to reject this sanitized, acceptable rewritten version of their love, & desire the haunting ghost, even with all of the foibles of that? She doesn't claim to hate the fiction, but it isn't the love she remembers.

The concept that kaii simply 'cannot access' certain aspects of society is interesting. This concept that humans engaging with kaii sincerely, are naive, short-sighted, and incapable of thinking of the 'big picture' is, too. It's childish of Nene-chan to chase Hanako, and others who 'know better' or think more 'realistically' chide or laugh at her for it (Akane, Teru, Mitsuba....). Mitsuba finds it funny that Nene-chan is so smitten with a lover she can't have for life. Mitsuba longs to be 'normal'. Hanako wants a 'normal' life for Nene-chan.

Just as well, however Amane or Tsukasa may have felt about each other, they were brothers. There is a limit to the level of closeness they can have. To put it bluntly, they can't get married, either, lol.

Amane/Hanako the entity may not 'have a future' with anyone he loves, as he may not ever have a proper, societally-acceptable love, with anyone. His love might always be something impossible to achieve-- the moon, out of his reach. That's an interesting trait for a main character.

I think it shouldn't be shameful or stupid or reductive to connect to Hanako/Nene, or Akane/Aoi (lifelong 'best friends'), or Sumire/Hakubo (who were hardly seen as people by anyone, their relationship's value anywhere from invisible to repugnant) .... we literally do not know Aida or Iro's relationships, experiences, we don't even know their own identities or personal lives all that deeply....! We don't know where they are writing or drawing from. But in that way, I think it would be doing a disservice to what you can connect to in a narrative, to presume it's only ever what it looks like on the surface.

For a great many authors & artists, we didn't get to know the greater narrative of their life until long after they died, and could reread their works with new context. I don't think people need to die for you to do that, though. If you notice a consistent theme, it might be intentional... or it might not be! You should have fun. You shouldn't worry too much about it IN-TEXT being wlw or mlm lol.... that's, just not how a lot of people choose to write their stories, even if their lived reality is exactly one thing. Even if there's not a deep reason, maybe it feels more fun or more playful to imagine oneself, a lesbian, as a nasty teenage straight boy. Maybe it even feels more 'real' but in a 'lol... tfw' way. Do you feel me on that??? Sometimes... I think things get a little too literal around the web lately in media analysis!!!!! I would love to encourage anyone who needs permission, to get a little less literal. I don't think you need to, imagine Hanako as a woman to make HanaNene appropriately lesbo vibes, or to justify yourself, a lesbo, liking it. You could be a lesbo and Hanako could represent the type of girl you are exactly. There are girls like that. I mean. Tsukasa represents the type of girl I am.... *paws out*

and aouhhhrho aoaaoouou disclaimer anyone can enjoy whatever they like etc etc have fun etc, live your life etc not saying everyone who likes XYZ is insecure or XYZ or should just blah blah or it's wrong to do blah blah write blah, this all isn't relevant to you whatsoever if you're happy and confident in what you like, proud to like it or whatever, this post is only!!!! relevant if you feel ashamed, embarrassed, silly, or dumb for 'seeing something' or relating to something 'not for you' or 'not there'!!! You don't know that it isn't there! You don't have to choose from .... the few same-gender options actually in-text. Or contort the canon around. You can see your own relationships in anything. Because people write their own relationships in a thousand ways.

My husband and I can write ourselves as two girls. As two girls and a boy. As two boys. As a boy and a girl. As two boys and a girl. As a boy and a nongendered thing. We do this obsessively. I wouldn't say any of these narratives are more or less accurate or true to our lives depending upon the genders aligning with our real life human bodies. We can be a thousand things, and we're still 'us'. We recognize 'us' in that which resonates.

It genuinely helped me with my mental health but it's also horrible and weird and I don't know what came over my friend and I when we came up with it <3 it was also conceived over a 4 week period, we just kept piling stuff onto it. The Caellach x Valter part of this au is just the tip of the ice berg and there's so much more bs with the other Grado generals, some antagonists from fe6, 7, 13, 14 and also Silque from fesov. She's not an antagonist even in the slightest, I just was obsessed with her for a long time. I have not played fesov.

Vital information:

The mobile spinoff (fe heroes) takes place in a country called Askr. The idea is that each fe game is a seperate world but the FEH protag, Kiran, can summon them to Askr and use them in their army. It's just the in universe explanation for how it's a gacha game.

Also I am. so very sorry. for how ooc this is.

So it starts with Caellach finding out Valter and Linus (don't look him up, you'll get spoilers) had a fling a while ago. Caellach is homophobic so he goes around telling everyone else that Valter and Linus are gross and gay. The rest of the friend group (Grado generals and some other gba villains you don't know) are all queer though so they're just like "and? Idc".

Groups starts bullying Caellach for being a homophobe and it evolves into a joke that Caellach is just jealous of Linus cause he wanted to be with Valter.

Narcian (don't google him) gets the genius idea of offering Valter large amounts of money to date Caellach. Valter explains the situation to Caellach and they agree to fake date and split the money 50/50.

As all fake dating stories go, they end up falling love and just start real dating. Caellach also really really cares about Valter so he starts actively working to improve himself as a person cause he wants to be a good bf. Remember this for later.

Skip to 5 years later. I don't remember if it was 5 or 3. Valter and Caellach are happily married with some adopted kids and a cat called Minty. You don't need to know all of them, the important one is Marianne.

Joshua gets summoned to Askr. Caellach has had time to improve and become a better person, but for Joshua, Ismaire's death was only like a week ago.

Obviously Joshua he's pissed. He knows Caellach has become better but still absolutely despises him so he starts harassing him and basically just digging up a lot of old stuff.

This goes on for a while and stuff escalates until Caellach commits suicide. Valter does not deal with this well at all and ends up neglecting his kids and becoming an alcoholic.

As the oldest, Marianne ends up having to take care of the others, which creates a big rift between her and Valter.

Sothis, who has been here the whole time sorry I didn't mention her before, gets tired of seeing Valter like this and helps him fix his life. He tries repairing his relationship with his kids but it doesn't go very well.

Anyway more time passes and Valter makes a deal with Sothis. If she makes him immortal, he'll open an orphanage.

Reason for doing this: him and Caellach both had abusive parents (not in canon, this is a hc) so they had a dream of opening an orphanage to help kids who'd been hurt.

Valter has that orphanage for 10 000 years somehow. I don't know where the number 10 000 came from. At this point, he doesn't remember Caellach at all or why he opened the orphanage, but he's found someone else he trusts to take over it when he dies (Ninian) so he asks Sothis to kill him.

She does. He wakes up in the afterlife and remembers Caellach. They reunite :3 the end :3

Other stuff:

The cat Minty. Oh my GOSH Minty. The thing about her is that she can see ghosts and Valter can talk to animals (I can't for the life of me remember where that came from) so Valter would say something then Minty would say what Caellach's ghost responded with. Absolutely horrible method of communication. Minty also hates Valter a bit so she'd sometimes lie and say Caellach said something horrible.

Full list of kids adopted by Caellach and Valter: Marianne, Hector, Reginn, Rebecca, Raigh, Lugh and Chad. Do not look up the last four, you'll get spoilers for stuff. Anyway after a while, my friend and I kinda forgot about Hector, Reginn and Rebecca so they don't even really count anymore.

I think this fic is what was lying within from the far reaches of hell that made whoever read it go mad. ive observed truly forbidden information and now must live with it

gotta say imagining a fake dating plotline with valter and caellach is extremely funny to me. imagining any kind of ship trope with these two is funny to me actually because they’re just. they’re just them. I don’t have a better way to explain this sorry

[All the ships] actually has a title which I'd clean forgotten LOL. It's Thunder and Lightning and I only remembered because I went to dig for an excerpt. We start with Harry and Ginny on one hand and Draco and Astoria on the other, happily married and being friends, until a stormy night in the manor when Astoria and Ginny give in to their attraction and that leaves Harry, in deep denial of how attractive he finds Draco, to ...er deal with that. It's a PWP, because this is the only thing I can write in drarry now lol. I would've abandoned it, tbh, except I really like this one line and so I can't bring myself to relegate it to the WIP graveyard.

I'd love to talk about the gothic romance too! I'd also forgotten I have a tentative title: Lord Ashworth's Possession. This exercise tells me a lot about how much I've put my writing on the back burner these past few months :(

See, I had the idea of turning my gothic drarry (The Unquiet Grave) into an original romance, but when I tried to adapt the existing text by filing off serial numbers, as it were, I realised how impossible it was. So many things relied on canon to be understood and would have to be explained and so many little moments would lose their significance.

But I was enamoured with the mood of the fic and would love to recreate it. I kept the gothic manor and the sinister vibe, but changed the characters, the situation, the plot etc. Some elements have sneaked through, the ghost of the aunt, for instance.

Calling it 'memory' was because my protagonist and the POV of the story is returning to a place he grew up and hasn't visited for 20 years. So besides him being there for plot reasons, he also returns to a place that holds a lot of emotional memories for him. The book that keeps coming back to my mind when I think of this story is The Lover by Marguerite Duras, which is neither gothic nor a romance, but somehow feels related to this piece.

I wrote a short story exploring the world and the secondary characters and posted it on AO3: The new valet. Certain elements about the house are likely to change but it was an interesting exercise in getting a feel for the story.

‘Is this something you do a lot?’ Malfoy shrugged as he leaned on a counter opposite Harry. ‘Not together, no. We have an open relationship. I love her more than I could ever love anyone, but we’re both more gay than bi. We’ve had dalliances in the past and they’ve been discreet.’ This was news to Harry. The gay thing, the dalliances. His mind couldn’t stop thinking of the men Malfoy had touched. The men he’d fucked. ‘Is this making you uncomfortable?’ Malfoy asked. ‘Not really. I want Ginny to be happy.’ Malfoy chuckled. ‘I meant, this.’ He gestured between them. ‘Not really.’ Harry shot back. ‘Is that why your fists are clenched? Because you’re perfectly comfortable?’ Harry flexed his fingers and let out a long breath. The rain started. It beat up the windows, rivers pouring down the glass. It was almost like they were in an aquarium, surrounded by water, just him and Malfoy and his long, manicured fingers. Malfoy shrugged. He wore a shirt open at the collar, a triangle of neck and collarbone visible, pale against the ice blue fabric. Harry’s fingers flexed some more. ‘Nothing needs to happen, Harry.’ Harry wondered if Malfoy still thought of him in his surname like Harry did. ‘Let’s go have a drink, I’m worried you’ll have an aneurysm.’

On this freezing November morning, rain lashed at the windows, making the damp air damper. A fire in the grate in Philip’s office burned valiantly, doing its best to dispel the gloom. He’d been sorting through reports of suspected Wraith activity—often these things would take down whole families before someone realised what they were dealing with—when his door opened, and Maud popped her head in. “Got an appointment in ten minutes that sounds intriguing. I thought you might want to sit in. Name’s Harlow.” Philip’s hands stilled. “There are many Harlows,” he said carefully. But his pulse was beating fast, and he knew; he already knew. Maud’s expression confirmed it before her words. “He’s Lord Ashworth’s younger brother. Lancewood Abbey. That’s where you grew up, isn’t it?” Philip nodded. Maud slipped inside and sat on the chair. “Do you remember him? The younger brother?” “He’s a decade younger. He was barely two when we—” were forced to leave “—when we left the estate.” “Do you remember the current Lord Ashworth? John Augustus—God, what names—Harlow?” “Jack.” Philip remembered a nine-year-old running after him in the grass, escaping his governess in order to create as much mischief as he could manage. “They call him Jack. He was in the papers a lot.” Jack Harlow, when his father lived, and he was still the heir. Rumours of scandals and a licentious lifestyle that put Oscar Wilde to shame.
