Confession: I'm a FAN of the Archie Sonic Comics
I think I'm kind of in a weird spot in terms of being a Sonic fan. I'm old enough to have been a fan basically since the beginning but young enough that when I was reading the Archie comics, they were my world. And you know how it is when you immerse yourself so much in something at that age - I've always had a special place for them in my heart and I've always felt like the odd one out in the community for that. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but it's hard to find a lot of praise for anything that was published before Ian Flynn started writing for Archie.
I know that the Archie comics are also steeped in the Ken Penders controversy, which has always made me feel even more out of place, because I honestly kind of like the insane stuff he wrote (it doesn't really hold up now as I re-read the comics but they're still wildly entertaining) and I really liked Steven Butler's art style and they've twisted together in my mind as the "Ken Penders Style" that I've felt guilty about enjoying for years. I learned how to draw Sonic characters using Steven Butler's art. Even though I haven't ever seen his name thrown around the same way that Penders is, his art style doesn't seem to get a lot of good marks in the community.
Lately, I've decided to embrace a lot of stuff from the past that people still think is "cringe" or whatever, so I guess the point of this post is that I'm a proud fan of the batshit bananas Archie comics and I love Steven Butler's art style. I may be in the minority, but I don't regret any of the hours I spent and am spending with those comics and I don't regret any of that style that still seeps into my art all these years later. Hopefully, this post won't get completely torn to shreds. I'd love to hear if anyone else shares these sentiments. It always feels like when I interact with the Sonic community, there aren't a lot of people my age. It's either people who are older than me by about 10 years who are fans of Sonic but also seem to hate everything about the franchise or people about ten years younger than me who make amazing fan art but don't talk about the Archie comics much.

I understand that tall men are our POV characters, but surely being like a foot taller than everyone around them would have some occasional consequences

not to sound like a boomer, but I need some people to learn how to write emails in a semi-professional (at the very least) format so you're not cold emailing a business/potential employer/any other stranger about formal matters in the exact same way you'd DM a close friend on instagram
the formality/language can loosen up in the email chain once you've established a rapport and you match the other person if they're being less formal, but please don't have the very first email you send a stranger be written in all lowercase ultra-casual sms slang with no greeting or signature and a billion emojis

We're not appreciating the Weird Barbie enough. It's said in the movie that she helps everyone who need help while they always see her as someone who's not as good as them. She was friends with all dismissed Barbies and Kens, was there to offer support and safe shelter for everyone who needed it in Kendom, without her nothing in the movie would've been alright. When Stereotypical Barbie calls her "ugly and unwanted" she still helps her.
She was representing a woman in women's world who was pushed aside by other women because she didn't fit in but still had more wisdom and kindness than everyone who thought they're better than her.

People on here are always like "fuck capitalism, why can't things be weird anymore" and then write up a whole dissertation about how the biggest IPs need to change to be weirder.
Like, you are so close. You are so close to getting the point. "Big" IPs *can only exist because they are normal*. They will *never* be weird. They will *never* do what you want. Go find some smaller IPs. Bring back discovery. Bring back never having heard of a book before you buy it. Bring back watching obscure anime online that none of your friends know about. Bring back trying new things, even if they're bad or cheaply made. That is how you get *weird*.

I saw someone be like "It's still as good a time as ever to take a risk and make your indie game into a breakout success, just look at Lethal Company!"
Let's just be clear that "massively unpredictable viral success making an ungodly amount of money" does not equal "realistic and attainable benchmark" for almost any other indie dev.

Dick and Jason mutually agreed that if one of them calls Bruce "dad", the other does not say a word.
Some criminal, which they caught: nice toys, kid.
Robin!Jason aka ray of sunshine: thanks. My dad made them for me.
Dick, trying to hold a laugh because it's cute: pff.
Jason: ?
Some criminal, confused: dad?
Jason, realizing what he just said and quickly turning red: Batman! I mean Batman! Batman made them for me!
Dick, already planning to blackmail him: aha, whatever you say, shorty.
On the same patrol.
Nightwing, doing something incredibly stupid: hah, dad's gonna soooo mad.
Jason "it's my turn, bitch" Todd: did you just call him dad?
Dick "stubborn ass" Grayson: no, I didn't.
Jason: yes, you did.
Dick: no, I did not!
Jason: yes. You. Did!
Dick, realizing that he lost: ...we won't mention it ever again.
Jason: deal.

"LOL this flip-flop wearing loser thinks he's gonna kick my ass and destroy my whole kingdom in the span of an afternoon. What an idiot"
I didn't intend for this to be a full comic, which is why it just kinda ends. Sowwy

And while he insists that everyone in town has ran over McGucket before, we also know he ran over Toby too and absolutely did not give a shit (understandable in that case)

Do y’all know about Frédéric Thomas? He is a French parasitologist who heard a story about crickets in New Zealand leaping into the water even though they can’t swim, and immediately speculated this suicidal behavior was related to behavior manipulation from an internal parasite. This is before neuro-parasitology was a field at all, and before people really put much stock into parasite’s ability to control animal behavior.
Thomas was certain that studying these crickets would be a huge priority for the scientific world given the implications of a parasite controlling an animal’s actions in such an insidious way. Unfortunately, absolutely nobody would fund Thomas’ expedition to study the crickets, and his grants were all declined. In a wild move that showcases the balls to the wall, near- insanity level passion of a biologist, Thomas declared a hunger strike and wrote a letter to the president of France saying he would not eat until someone took the matter seriously and funded his study on the suicidal crickets. I feel like those of us in research can at least a little bit understand this impulse.
Well the French government actually got Thomas’ message and freaked out a bit at the negative publicity that could arise from a crazy worm scientist starving to death. So they send some government bigwigs to the university to pressure Thomas and his department heads into calling an end to the hunger strike. In the flurry of attention that resulted from this, a Swiss billionaire heard about Thomas’ plight and offered to partially fund the study. The French government was happy to get rid of Thomas and contributed funding as well so that Thomas could head to New Zealand to study his suicidal crickets. He was right about the parasites causing the behavior!
The hunger strike debacle is not even the wildest part of this story. I love biology so much

Humans are weird: Space Ice
Alien: By the gods……what did you do?
Human: What do you mean?
Alien: Luminal III was a desert world, and you’ve been on the world for half a century and now it’s a lush planet.
Alien: What did you do?
Human: Simple.
Human: Space ice.
Alien: What?
Human: Space ice.
Alien: I….I still don’t follow.
Human: Well it’s a desert world with almost no water, so we went out and got some.
Alien: You got some….in space ice?
Human: Well yeah.
Human: There are literal hundreds of thousands of chunks of frozen ice just floating in asteroid belts or orbiting planets in rings.
Human: So we sent a couple dozen harvester ships to grab them and then bring them back to the planet.
Alien: ………………..
Alien: Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?
Human: What do you mean?
Alien: Do you have any idea what was in that ice?
Alien: Possibly frozen organisms or diseases that are in those chunks of ice.
Human: Yeah we knew all about that.
Human: We’ve watched “The Thing” enough times to know what could be frozen inside random blocks of ice.
Human: We had each block scanned and detoxed before introducing it to the planet’s surface.
Human: By the end of twenty years into the operation enough water had been distributed that several large underground lakes were filled to capacity.
Human: Water on the surface continued to evaporate and condense into clouds causing temperatures to slowly decrease. This coupled with the underground water supplies resulted in land masses becoming more temperate and damp.
Alien: Thank you for explaining basic science class processes to the species that mastered inter-dimensional travel.
Human: Well if you’re so god-damn smart why didn’t you think of this?
Alien: *Opens mouth to counter but stops
Human: You’ve encountered at least a hundred desert worlds and never thought, “Hey, maybe if I add water things will get better?”
Alien: *Stares in angry silence.
Human: Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Human: Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go make a second amazon rainforest called “Amazon+”.
Alien: But why?
Human: For shits and giggles mostly at this point.
