ESCAFLOWNE WEEK 2021 DAY 4: ROYALTY/THE LOVERS (Parts 1 and 2)
*This fountain is a crucial set piece.
Title: Aston Captives
Summary:
Dryden Fassa finds an unlikely kindred spirit in the former Strategos of Zaibach as they realize they have both been enchanted by an Aston princess.
Musical Inspiration: 1, 2, 3
Note:
I've had the idea for this fic since at least 2018. Here is the Dryden and Folken buddy story that grew from a one-shot to a trilogy. Such fun to write though.
Dryden is one of my favorite characters because he is such a cool cat and a refreshing contrast against the brash and serious major male characters. He is always fun to write and I think he and Folken would get along swimmingly so it was great to write a scene for them to just hang out and discover what they have in common.
This is my favorite piece for this week. I finally get to indulge in my ships and it is glorious.

but truly, the book ending with “snow lands on top” is so cold. because there were so many losses, so. many. losses. throughout that one summer.
while yes, it was mostly the tributes and people from the district that coryo never saw as a group above animals and his fellow mentors he could simply decide he didn’t care for that much anyways, the losses also included lucy gray and sejanus plinth.
the two people who had showed him more about living in the span of a few months. how lucy gray showed him goodness and vigor and strength and bringing joy to people’s lives. and how sejanus was literally the one who pulled him back from ending it all and brought him a sense of relief and light and familiarity to his despair in district 12.
but still, it didn’t matter that they were now both gone from the face of the earth. it didn’t matter that sejanus was lost to the hanging tree, and that lucy gray was lost in the woods and that their blood and whatever was left of them were on his hands. because at the end, snow got what he wanted either way.
others might have ended up buried under rubble, under panem’s dirt, or in the words of a mockingjay song, but that didn’t matter anymore. because here he was, in the strive to become something great, on the way to claim the old glory of his family name that he’d longed so much. finally at the height of his life, even if it was at the expense of others. snow lands on top.

i have a counter argument to the 'only one person can boop bill' thing, mabel. she's the type of person to slap stickers on people, she would definitely be the type to also boop others occasionally and bill would be no exception. she probably doesn't do it to annoy bill like dipper would, but maybe as a form of a friendly gesture, kind of like those people who will lightly punch friends in the arm when they hang out.
You know what? Good point. Mabel would get away with more than most, as a fun-loving lady! Bill understands those impulses, and being a touchy person! He indulges in similar ones himself.
Though when Bill's not in the mood to be playful and gets booped anyway? The 'sister-in-law' status grants her considerable grace.

So again @netflix… “My Life With The Walter Boys” got renewed and we’re still waiting to hear back about Dead Boy Detectives?? I know ratings don’t matter to them as much as views but looking at Rotten Tomatoes (which I know is pretty arbitrary, just give me this) we’re talking the difference between 45% (Walter Boys) and 93% (Dead Boys) critic reviews on rotten Tomatoes. For reference, Miranda Sing’s “Haters Back Off” show somehow snagged a critic score of 50%, while The Crown sits at 81% and Bridgerton is at 84%. Again I know this is not the perfect frame of reference but I am hoping beyond all hope that they see the gem they have uncovered with this show.

Fun headcanon idea! Most young trolls are soothed with singing but Keith can also be soothed using stories!
That’s such a cute head cannon! And perfect for these two!
I can see Branch figuring this out one day when the two are hanging out in the woods, and Keith maybe gets hurt. It’s just a small scratch, nothing big, but he’s a little kid, so he maybe starts crying, and in general is just upset. This causes Branch to panic a little, because he isn’t sure what to do to help him calm down. He knows singing can help calm down young trolling's, his brothers and Grandma used to sing to him when they were still around but he doesn’t sing. What can he do to help calm down his little bug?
So, he sits in front of Keith, and while he cleans and patches up the scratch, he just starts talking. Telling Keith about the time he ran into some critter, who stole his bag, and how he had to spend a good few hours having to track it down to get it back. He’s kind of just rambling, but Keith is soothed, nonetheless. Especially after Branch places the bandage on the scratch.
By the time Branch finishes his story, Keith jumping around, grinning, insisting they go on a critter hunt right then and there, because that sounds like so much fun!
Meanwhile, Branch is just in awe that that worked as well as it did.
