people who don't use the tags to be sad and vent are so powerful lmao couldn't be me
#real talk it has been BAD lately#the POTS has gotten MUCH worse lately#for example. yesterday i had to call someone to bring me a sports drink because sitting up in bed made me almost lose consciousness#like i am DREADING leaving the house because im having minor-ish episodes at least twice a day#and the new scary part is that when i have an episode i cant speak well#i can say a few words at a time but thats it#which is scary and also frustrating because people tend to freak out and ask a lot of questions and its hard to answer#and it sucks because i know i cant do certain things when im home alone anymore#like showering (huge trigger) or cooking (also trigger sometimes) because its honestly kinda dangerous now#its very humbling to have to lie down on the floor because painting for 20 minutes triggered an attack#and a lot of the people around me arent handling it well so thats a whole OTHER set of issues#im honestly thinking of writing out a 'what to do during an episode' plan for the people in my family to make it easier#and another 'how we explain this to people' plan because everyone is giving different accounts and kinda minimizing to not scare people#which i get because it all SOUNDS very scary and we dont want people to be worrying (and frankly bothering us about it)#but if i show up to an event or whatever and have an issue or i start using a mobility aid (maybe?) they'll get weird#ANYWAYS this all sucks but also im hanging in there (and yes my doc is on top of this dont worry)#its going to be really interesting to see how things play out over the coming weeks and months

Hello Luta.
Ill try to be polite and keep my rant short but i cant promise anything.
First of all, im from Mexico so english is not my main language so please bear with me and my grammar wrong doings.
So let me give you a bit of context, i first encountered BDSM when i was a 16 yo (Im 20 yo now dw), it was through some fanfic and at that time i didnt really understood what was happening and i started searching a bit about it but i really didn't talk about it, it was like my big secret that i knew about this. Fast forward when i was around 18 i dont know how one night i ended up on BDSM advice reddit and i was so excited to tell my friends about my new discovery but they ignored me lol. So yeah after that i pretty much stopped searching and kept it on lock until KP. I remember that i was thrilled with Kinn and porsche relationship, i loved it and i told one of my friends that i wanted that type of dynamic but then Vegaspete happened and i was gone, the face on pete when Vegas was touching him before the kiss, yeah I want to be him so bad. So i dont even know how i ended up on your Tumblr but i read all your explanations one night and i was shaking in excitement, everything was so fucking clear. So yeah I started to search way more about it and finally understood what Subspace was and oh the way im craving to be able to experience it. So i kept searching and reading and got to the point where i can admit yeah im on the submissive side. Im sorry this is getting long i promise im almost finish. So im also watching LITA and let me tell you my personality is basically Sky BUT seeing rain this last episode was like seeing myself on my last relationship minus the part when Payu was so good and caring for him. When payu was telling him that he needed to focus on School, i wanted to cry because I need someone to tell me that and when i saw rain waiting for Payu for hours only to tell him that he did well, i understood him perfectly. So after seeing the episode i ran to your Tumblr and all of the things i was thinking about their dynamic were right and I came across your post about being a non sexual Dom with your friends and it also clicked for me the way i would always be a bit bratty with my friends but always always waiting for compliments and waiting for them to tell me what to do. So yeah i dont even know why i wanted to tell you all of this right now, i guess it's more of a thank you for making me see lots of things about myself. I dont think im ready to search for the BDSM here in Mexico, i find it pretty scary but at least now i know what is going on with me.
This was morea rant than a question, so im very sorry, just wanted to share.
Thank you so much for your analysis, they helped me a lot to understand and accept myself.
Hey Hey takhun!!!
For English being a second language, you did absolutely beautifully. I understood every bit of this and I appreciate you taking the time to write it in English. It clearly showcases how much of a caring individual you are and I adore you for it.
If you are more comfortable writing in Spanish then please feel free to just know it will take me a bit to translate it. I can read it a lot better than I can speak it thoughđ¤ˇđ˝ââď¸đ¤Śđ˝ââď¸ My husband and my kids are all basically fluent, I don't know what's wrong with me. My brain literally goes BIRD BIRD BIRD SQUIRELL when I try to speak it. We went to Mexico this year and everyone talking to me and here is my family answering for me. All that to say I have mad respect for my bilingual peeps.
I remember you reading my stuff. I got notifications. I can always tell when people are really feeling it because suddenly all my D/s posts start getting likes. Trust me , I love it. Headspace is something but don't rush it, it takes the right person to not crash and burn. When you have the right person though, it's like you've hit another dimension.
I'm thrilled that you thought to run to my blog. That makes it worth staying up late to write the review. I really do appreciate the share. If I've helped even one person then it means the world to me. Thank you đđđ

modern sasha braus dating headcanons
lowercase intended !
college!sasha braus x gn!reader
had to write something for my queen đâ¨
- she shares her food with you. I Dont Care She Does
- also since this is a modern au i dont think she would have such an obsession with food as she does in the canonverse (if we can even call it an obsession) i still think she would have a big appetite (and she'd be proud of it tf đđ) but i just dont see her always being hungry as the fandom makes her out to be
- really likes to hold hands with you
- i think itd be really cute if she was studying to become a baker ?? maybe taking a culinary course at the university you two attend ?? maybe you somehow met there or through a friend
- i think she'd still be insecure about her accent (ig if this is au is set in america she'd be from the south đđ¤) and would speak kind of like a robot to people she didn't know that well
- connie and jean ALWAYS bring out her accent tho,, like with them she can really be herself
- i think when you were starting to get to know her she would be speaking very formally, and youd take it like shes being kinda stand offish or like,, just doesnt wanna talk so youre thinking "okay maybe she doesnt wanna be friends đđ" and would back off
- now sasha's upset because you are so cool and unique and she just wants to know so much about you but youve been very distant lately ?? like did she do something wrong ??
- she tells connie, jean, marco, and niccolo one night and connie and jean are on the side of "find y/n and demand to know why their behavior has changed" while marco and niccolo are on the side of "respectfully dm y/n and ask why they havent been wanting to see sasha recently"
- sasha goes with the latter of the two and dms you after passing you in the dining hall, you two literally keep glancing at each other, texting while you sit with your respective friend groups
- after everything gets cleared up sasha is immediately inviting you to hang out with her crew, and even getting some of her other friends like eren, mikasa, and ymir and historia to come join too
- if she has all the people shes comfortable with there, itll be less scary talking with her accent !
- You Love It. You Think Its Adorable.
- you guys would definitely have a friends to lovers type relationship
- like friendly hugs turn into slightly longer hugs, and now sasha will constantly ask to sit next to you during movie nights
- loves to rest her head on your lap while she spreads across the couch
- i think you two would have your first kiss in niccolos apartment
- you two were sitting in his kitchen, with sasha munching on the leftover food he made that night for your get together
- his mom had called him so he decided to leave to go to his bedroom to answer it
- and slowly you guys just kind of,,,, leaned in đâ¨
- it was slow and really romantic, kinda rough with the crumbs that were around sasha's lips but you didn't mind
- niccolo barged in and ruined the moment đđ¤ good going pal đđ
- you two were so shocked that you two tried to leave
- ended up just walking down the road in silence like wtf i thought yall were trying to get away from each other đđđđ
- sasha ended up staying the night đ¤Šâźď¸
- NOT in a sexual way
- but in like a,,,, rue and jules kinda way where jules comes in through the window (but only sasha didnt come in through the window she came in the front door with you) and you two held each other and gave each other smooches for the rest of the night
- sasha woke up late and missed her morning classes đđ¤ didnt even care and went back to sleep with you
- i think for the most part you get along well with her friend group
- youre definitely closer to connie, jean, niccolo, marco, and historia
- ymir teases you guys a lot and you cant tell if what she says is just jokes (it always is) or if shes completely serious
- eren, mikasa, armin, annie, along with reiner and bertholdt are more of aquantances to you, just because you dont see them as often as you do the others
- she has such a weird relationship with her english professor
- will literally complain how much work he gives his class and then the next day will gush about how great he his bc he gave her a granola bar for her effort in her assignment
- girl pick a script and stick to it đđ¤
- has a collection of stuffies on her bed. i dont make the rules.
- anytime theres a carnival in town she drags EVERYONE there.
- you all agree to split up into groups so you can all check out what you want, but you always agree to meet up and eat funnel cake together đĽş
- sasha tries to get you to win her new stuffies
- if you cant do it, or just want some for yourself, shes calling connie and niccolo up PLEADING with them to come find you guys,
- then she claims theres been an ACCIDENT and that you two need help
- niccolo is zooming bc he cares abt his besties đâ¨
- connie texts jean and marco to come find you guys too đđđ
- who gets a kick and a lecture for lying courtesy of niccolo ? sasha. but who also gets a bunch of stuffies won for her courtesy of niccolo ? sasha.
- for your anniversary i think she'd want to do something really fun with you
- she'd set up a pillow fort and have a bunch ot string lights and stuff, have all of her favourite stuffies (which are the ones she thinks of you when she sees) in there too.
- she has chips, she baked little pastries and cookies, and she ordered your favourite takeout
- you guys just watch whatever you want on netflix or whatever and its such a nice night
- it becomes a tradition for you guys, but you two always take turns with setup
- one year sasha did all of the planning, baking and whatnot ? okay now its your turn đđ
- you guys even started doing themes now đ¤Š
- if you guys play board games with your friends youre on sasha's side whether you want to be or not.
- shes also the kind of person that says "i can win fair and square !" but then when bertholdt starts kicking her ass in monopoly her script changes real quick đ
- now its "y/n,,, give me some of ur money" and "y/n, buy this property for me" like girl,,,, what happened to playing fair đâď¸
- will try and do all of those s/o pranks you see on tiktok
- its hard to get a genuine reaction out of you bc you can TELL SHES RECORDING but she tries anyways
- we love a perservering queen đâ¨
- will call you at random times of the day asking if you guys can see each other
- "y/n ??? are you there ??" "sasha its 2am wtf do you want đ" "do you wanna ride your bike with me down to the park đĽş"
- also is very observant, knows when youre overworking yourself
- will try and pull you away from what youre working on like "lets go get you something to drink, or maybe we can watch an episode of that show you like before you continue working !"
- if youre persistent that you just HAVE to finish it tonight and cant stop and take a break she'll respect that, until you stay at your laptop for over an hour đ
- just softly pulls you away like "no lovebug, lets get some sleep okay ?"
- is also very protective of you
- overheard someone making fun of you ?? talking shit ??? her besties better hold her back before she gets suspended đ¤âźď¸
- and since connie and jean absolutely ADORE you, you better believe theyre helping their girl sasha out
- those three are the LEADERS of the "protect y/n club"
- it just becomes niccolo and marco trying to dissolve the situation before it gets physical, and then reiner and armin joining when they walk directly into the chaos
- armin tells you what happened and as much as youre thankful that sasha cares about you so much that she'd defend you like that, you lecture her, jean and connie on not making scenes like that again
- sasha's love language is kind of like,, a mixture of quality time and physical touch
- she just really loves spending time with you, but also very much enjoys being in your arms
- she doesnt shy away from it, and is usually the one to initiate those things
- will hold your hand PROUDLY down hallways or on streets
- always hypes you up too, shes very much so your personal hypeman
- "oh lovebug you look SO GOOD rn oh my god" "sasha pls im in my pyjamas" "and you look like a model baby !"
- sasha is very stubborn however, and if you guys ever fight she is NEVER the one to apologize first, or seek you out to talk about it
- even if shes in the wrong she cant bring herself to admit it, she dug herself into such a deep hole with the stance she took that she doesnt want to take the walk of shame in admitting that she wasnt right
- this can cause a lot of problems in your relationship, but after you explain how much it affects you, shes trying to change
- will always work on her stubborn-ness and pride
- and it actually makes her feel a lot better being able to admit defeat, or being wrong
- she really likes being communicative and honest, especially with you
- i think overall your relationship with sasha is very very fun, filled with good memories, good food, good friends, and most importantly, love.
no bc i really do love her đđ¤ lemme marry miss braus rq đâ¨
hope u guys enjoyed !! remember requests are open so if you have anything youd like me to write DONT BE SHY â¤ď¸âźď¸

rating disney movie sequels ive seen from worst to best bc i can
12. pocahontas II: journey to a new world - caught sight of it on my tv one time, and as a child who was probably still identifying as republican at that point, i s2g it was so racist i could not finish it. âwait till he sees youâ gives me fuckin hives
11. tarzan II - its. tarzan as a kid. like just more young tarzan adventures and dont get me wrong its a cute idea but after about 5 minutes it gets so boringÂ
10. atlantis: milos return - this one gets a lil bit of a pass bc from what i heard it was supposed to be a better sequel but that got canned and they were working on a spin off series too so they just like. took a couple of the episodes they were working on and stitched it into a movie. its like a bootleg parody of the first film and my family and i despite loving the original , once again, could not even finish this one. the only memorable part for me was kida picking up a life preserver presuming its a game and milo telling her you throw it to someone whos drowning and she responds âdoes this not make it difficult to play the gameâ
9. beauty and the beast: the enchanted christmas - not that bad, tim curry plays a great villian per usual, its just kinda confusing where and how it fits into the plot of the first film. and its like. Dark? perhaps scary? for a christmas movie??? i remember my mom didnt want me to watch it every year sheâd dread it bc it was such a bummer lol
8. brother bear 2 - ok nah introducing the new girl character was actually a baller move, and the concept was pretty cool. they just didnt make it fit very well and ngl the entire rest of the movie also feels disconnected from the first. had a lot of good dots but no good connection ya dig. also even though they tried in the end it was still just a âwe have to give this character a love interestâ movie which kinda trumps the whole reason the first movie revolved around brotherhood. it aint wife bear
7. cinderella II: dreams come true - i barely remember it i am literally just giving it this high of a rating bc the romance between the baker and one of the stepsisters was so fucking wholesome. that true love lives in my head bitch xoxo
6. the rescuers down under - i never saw the original so when i saw this on tv i thought it was the original , thats how quality it was imo. i just hardly remember it and had no real urge to seek it out again for years. its eye catching but not super duper memorable
5. the little mermaid II: return to the sea - ik most of the plot is just the first movie reversed but i actually rly liked the character melody and how they inverted a lot of the concepts, its just. a lot of it includes secondhand embarrassment and some of it rly is too lazy for me to ignore. solid B- for me
4. the lion king II: simbas pride - INCREDIBLE soundtrack, nothing can beat the first but its still Baller, and the newly introduced characters are all iconic. my only qualm is how like. the concept of bigoted simba is very hard to watch which ik ik it makes some sense with the events of the first movie but jfc my man does not have a great look in this one
3. mulan II - most ppl hate this one?? but i actually rly loved the princess characters and the music as well, i watched it a LOT growing up. the whole mushu trying to break up mulan and shang thing is equal parts entertaining and frustrating. and the animation is a tad bit... off. but like am i ever gonna FORGET mulan hanging off the bridge and reaching for her man and screaming with her entire heart? or the way she kinda parallels his âping, hold onâ from the first movie with âshang, hang onâ? no
2. peter pan II: return to neverland - broe....... howd they take the racist misogynistic trainwreck that was the first film and make this. its so fucking good, it has emotional depth and speaks to kids who feel they are being forced into growing up too fast by showcasing wendys daughter going thru WORLD WAR II and making her an incredibly realistic portrayal of a traumatized kid, pairing her with the happy go lucky peter pan and the lost boys who CANT grow up, symbolizing the death of her innocence with the way that her not believing in fairies is slowly killing tinkerbell, it all just makes for a really impactful movie. and even in a kids movie sense its just so entertaining and at times really funny and/or whimsical? not to mention the âiâll tryâ song/scene gets me crying every single time. beautiful movie dude the only reason its 2nd is bc it is , So emotional that im not always in the MOOD to watch it bc i have to prepare a little
1. the lion king 1 1/2 - god yes i fuckign loved and still love this one so much. the music is fire the comedy still makes me laugh so hard and the whole idea is so fucking genuinely clever. god bless whoever came up with this one i had it on dvd and im p sure i watched it for years till it was so scratched up it wouldnt play anymore, 11/10

me since book 1 of legend of korra when ever people try to claim mako was a womanizer, gary stu ( which requires a misunderstanding of what a gary stu is nad makos character  people have thrown that term around to any character they dont like ) , or creators pet , manipulator  , when that was never the case   ( he never was mako is a human being who makes mistakes the narrative always acknowledged his flaws as things that needed to be worked on the idea that if a character makes mistakes and isnt specifically punished for them and good things happen to him afterwards  its rewarding him for his flaws is nonsense  the claim that he needed to suffer or have good things taken from him is bs korra was just as responsible for the love triangle as mako and claim that mako ending the show single was karma is nonsense he shouldnt be punished for not being perfect and making mistakes ( which is why korrasami only became popular due to the hate for mako and a desire for lgbt rep not due to any actual chemistry or because it would make sense ( korrasami was thrown in at the last minute as a retcon and publicity stunt/political statement optimistic view : bryke genuinely thought they would be doing good and helping people they compromised the story narrative by throwing it in at last minute cynical publicity stunt either way they tried to cover their asses by casting aspersions on critics
the narrative they made led to the idea korra would end the show single with possibly a hint to makorra getting back together I cant help but rolly my eyes when I think how certain fans would react to that there would be claims of queerbaiting when they queerbaited themselves nothing hinted at korrasami the only way you could see evidence is if you were wearing shipping goggles or ending up unhappy to be frank I would change ) ( and this was the case ever since I watched b1 ( I was part of the fndm since the first episode came out)
âCensorship explains why we couldnât get a kiss and an âI love youâ in the finale or blatant romantic scenes, not the utter lack of Korra-Asami interaction as a whole. They had six (to six and a half) minutes of interaction in the last season, spread out over six interactions/conversations. Theyâve had nearly no on-screen interaction since âLong Live the Queen,â actually. They had the 5 second âI can come to the South Poleâ convo in âKorra Aloneâ (which Korra refused), the single letter, their interactions in âReunions,â and then the tea scene in âRemembrances.â After that, they donât speak again until the last two minutes of the finale. The episode after âRemembrancesâ is the Korra-Mako field trip to the Spirit Wilds and Zaheerâs prison and the culmination of Korraâs recovery arc. Where was Asami? She had two lines in the whole episode, and they were both to Varrick.â
the aspersions Bryan cast on the fandom for not accepting what amounted to a last-minute retcon have been functioning (whether intentionally or not) to shield the creators from any criticism for their own fault in the poor execution of their endgame ship, allowing them to take all of the credit for being âsubversiveâ and none of the blame for breaking their existing narrative to do it.

it often feels thatÂ
I never liked prince wu and the only reason some people liked him was because he bothered mako if I could change prince wu I would follow what ikkinthekitsune said to have mako happyÂ
ikkinthekitsune . tumblr . com/post/147464055579/considering-you-understandably-have-some-issues
Biggest change to the initial setup?  No Prince Wu.  Instead of an obnoxious overgrown child of a Prince, our heir apparent is introverted, lacks the confidence to refuse just about anything, and is terrified of being in front of crowds.  Heâs the (implied-to-be illegitimate) child of a distant relative of Hou-Ting and a Republic City citizen.  Oh, and heâs all of ten years old.  In other words, everything about him screams âRaiko chose this kid as a convenient puppetâ (instead of offhandedly implying it once and forgetting about it as was done with Wu). All of the time Wu wastes on comic relief in After All These Years is used to explain the political situation: the prince is a figurehead meant to display the trappings of royalty and legitimize Raikoâs chosen advisors.  Kuviraâs supporters hate him not just because heâs royalty but also because they think heâs essentially giving the Earth Kingdom away to an imperialistic foreign power.  Makoâs there to protect him both because Raiko ordered him to and because heâs one of the few cops the prince is comfortable around; as such, Mako actually feels bad for the kid and wants to protect him. (This prince is legitimately terrified by the scary adults throwing pies at him and bursts into tears as soon as theyâre out of harmâs way.  Mako comforts him and makes him feel a little better.) Korra Alone is close to perfect and stays pretty much as-is, albeit with Korraâs loss in the Earth Rumble ring being far less embarrassing â she gets some hits in, and the end makes it even clearer how distracted she was by Dark Avatar Korra. The Coronation follows up on the political changes.  Instead of being all excited about how awesome he thinks the ceremony is going to be, the prince is afraid â of being on stage (Mako assures him heâll do fine), of being king (Raiko assures him that his advisers will do all the work), and of Kuvira (Raiko assures him that sheâll step down).  The prince thanks Kuvira and lets her speak the way Wu did in the show, except that itâs sort of implied that heâs looking for an excuse to not have to stay up at the podium for longer than necessary.  Kuvira, of course, uses the opportunity to take over⌠and specifically points to Raikoâs use of the prince to control the Earth Kingdom as a reason why sheâs justified in doing so.  (The prince hides behind Mako when this happens.  =( )  Some of the time saved by not having Wu freak out about the loss of his throne is used to show us the meeting of the world leaders, where they talk about why they think Kuvira is dangerous (sheâs very with-me-or-against-me) and what they can do to stop her (not much as long as she limits her ambitions to the Earth Kingdom).
The Republic City part of Reunion is way more tense because Team Avatar are looking for a terrified kidnapped child instead of an aggravating jerk. Â (The prince still gets to ask Korra to go into the Avatar State because he wants to see her eyes glow, but itâs actually kind of endearing since heâs a little kid.)
and only people who wouldnt like it is mako haters who demonize him for being a human being who makes mistakes and twists him to be something he isnt to point where they claim bs things like claiming he called asami a leech when no it was a figure of speech it was avatar equivalent to ripping off a bandaid.
or whining that he was a bit of a jerk at the start or not immediately nice ( when mako is someone who unlike bolin has an icy demeanor and is wary of bringing new people in to circle but when you are in he will die for you he has been compared to zuko minus angst for a reason he was a jerk with a heart of gold he isnt going to be immediately friendly with people like bolinÂ
( I cant help but think of the people who would say zuko should have suffered at the end  )

Playing Pretend (4)
Requested by: @calkesttissâ | Prompt:
Hi! I just watched isi & ossi (rich girl and poor boxer boy AH) on netflix and now i cant stop thinking about cal and fake dating. Do with that what you will đ
Cal Kestis x Reader
1 | 2 | 3 | Next: Part 5 | Masterlist
4 of ?
Cal found a way down the building and walked his way back to the Mobara Palace, one of the few cantinas in the Capital that have docking bays. The Mobara Palace was one of the biggest in the city too; occupying a whole block to cover the bar itself as well as the elaborate network of paths that connect the bays to one another, with the cantina at the starting point of it all.
The Mantisâs entrance ramp hissed and lowered, opening the door before him. An aromatic waft was the first to welcome him upon his entry.
âLooks like Greez is cooking something good,â he comments to BD-1.
As he entered the ship, Greezâs dual pairs of arms were all over the pantry and yet each arm was carefully distributed to a certain task in cooking.
âSmells good, Greez!â Cal beamed.
âOh good, youâre just in time for dinnerâwith all that wandering around youâre doing, youâre probably hungry,â
He joined the others at the table as soon as Greez lifted the pot from the stove and served everyone their own plates. The meal was solemn and yet there was a warm aura emanating around them. Cal decided to up the mood by striking a conversation.
âHow long do you guys still think weâre gonna stay here until this blows over?â
A silence at the dinner table. Cereâs eyes shifted, she searched Greezâs face and studied his reaction toward Calâs question. There was only one possible and realistic answer, but the boy doesnât seem to concur with it.
âCal,â she clears her throat. âYou do understand whyâŚâ
Before she could even reiterate her question, Cal already knew this mere dinner table conversation was going to be another lecture.
âI know. Weâre hiding from the loan shark that Greez borrowed the money from to get this ship,â
It was an embarrassing truth, but a truth nonetheless. Greez felt like the situation required him to say a piece.
âLook, kid, we can scrape by with what we have. I mean, I still got coin on meâbut not that enough to cover the loan plus with its interest!â
âOdd jobs, honest jobs, arenât gonna cut it in a short time, Greez. At least you would know that, of all people,â Cal argued.
Cal had been wandering around the city looking for a quick way to earn some coin in the quickest way possible. The downtown and underground areas of the planet had some questionable methods of earning moneyâbut they were easy money. Although Cal had grown up with street smarts, part of that knowledge is when and where a solution is either a real solution or another problem later on.
âYou know the Sabacc, donât ya?â Greez whispered with the left corner of his mouth directed to Cal.
âGreez, we are not going with gambling!â Cere sternly exclaimed. The impact of her fork dropping against the plate was just as scary as a fist landing on the table like a gavel.
There was another silence amongst them again. Cere continued on with her own piece.
âWe cannot endanger anyone in our crew with something that wonât be worth our while. I donât mind pretending to be some stranger in a different name just so we can have someplace to stay safe together. But I will not allow anybody in this ship to get into something that would jeopardize themselves or the crew altogether, understand?â
Cereâs outburst hardened the silence. Everybody understands that she hasnât outgrown her military discipline from her days of participating in the Clone Warsâand sheâs utilizing them in predicaments such as these amongst the Mantis crew members.
These episodes of hers were occasional, therefore it made her unpredictable, intimidating, but somehow her aggressive delivery doesnât outweigh her rationale or true motive. EverybodyâCal, Greez, Merrin, and ultimately BD-1âknew that she means well and that she always will.
Cere processed what just had happened with her. She attempted to recompose herself in the midst of the awkwardness. She cleared her throat.
âIâm sorry⌠I didnât mean to yell.â
âItâs fine, Cere,â Greez consoles.
The dinner proceeds. Cal wondered if the girl he met yesterday and bumped into just now would be a better subject to talk about.
âI met someone last night. Bumped into her again,â
All heads turn to Cal.
âShe frequents a pub not too far from here. I always see her near or inside that place. Maybe if I bump into her again, Iâll ask her where I can find a place to get some cashâand a clean one at that,â
âAre you sure she is to be trusted?â Cere maintained her stern tone even after recomposing herself.
Cal was so sure of his judgment about you. He recalled the moments where you two were together. He felt your kindness and compassionâhe knew of your good intentions, you meant no harmâbut he also sensed some sort of sadness in you.
âYou probably have heard of Senator Bail Organa?â Cere takes the conversation reins.
Cal shrugs, âYeah sure, I know him. I saw him sometimes in the Senate Building in Coruscant.â
âWell, he knows of our presence hereâdonât worry, he doesnât know about the loan shark at our tailâand heâs invited us to a social function,â
âSocial function?â Cal raised his eyebrow at Cereâs unusual choice of word.
âApparently, this party was being held by a colleague of his. Perhaps they needed to fill the guestlist,â
âProxies,â
âExactly.â
âHow bad can a few no-show guests be? Itâs not like itâs gonna dent their bank account when the catering bill comes!â Greez dryly joked and it was the received likewise.
In light of this new announcement, Cal began to wonder how long does he have to stay in the party before he could sneak back out in the streets and find the unusual girl who had to drag him up a rooftop from the Tipsy Taun-Taun just to ask for some self-defense moves.
The following days passed until the day of the banquet has come. That morning, your mother personally made sure that you donât sleep in and get yourself ready as quickly as possible. She also announced that the stylists are coming in half an hour.
âMom, Iâm perfectly capable of doing my own makeup!â You detest despite still being groggy from being woken up without your consent.
You force yourself out of bed so that you could take a shower. Unfortunately, you didnât have the luxury of staying too long in the bathâhowever, you sorely wished you did. You slid deeper into the cold, ivory and gold-trimmed bathtub until only your eyes are on the surface.
A pounding on the door disturbed your watery peace.
â[y/n], hurry up!â your mother growled from the other side.
âAlmost done!â you cried back.
You were actually done minutes ago, you only chose to soak yourself for a bit longer with the wishful thinking that theyâll never realize that youâve locked yourself in your own bathroom. Youâd love that though.
âNo one could ever go wrong with black,â you muttered as you pulled out an off-shouldered black cocktail dress with stars and planets embroidered with golden thread.
You made quick work of yourself. You did your hair and makeup: applying minimal makeup as possible, you wore your hair down and clipped a silver headband on both ends with four tiers of golden cords hanging over on top of the other. Staring back at yourself in the mirror, a brush in your hand slides down to the length of your hair; with every stroke, you ponder if all this your parents are doing is ever worth it either for themselves or for the family.
You sigh for an answer, or lack thereof. Afterwards, you donned the dress and the shoesâboth pieces were in black. The finishing touchâa personal one at thatâwas a pair of leather fingerless gloves.
âHere goes nothing,â a mantra you tell yourself before exiting your room in attendance to any social gathering you were obliged to attend.
The party started without you. No surprise in that, you thought. Nevertheless, you made your way to ballroom where the chatter of the guests became more and more audible yet incoherent as their voices meddled.
Immediately, you searched for Tazha in the room. She wasnât easy to miss. Her glittering dress outshines everyone elseâs, literally making her a beacon for you to easily see her. You walk up to her.
âOh you look great!â she compliments.
âThanks, you too,â
Suddenly, one of the Ithrel sons, Logan who was the third son and was the same age as you, appears ot be walking toward you with what you thought is the stupidest grin youâve ever seen on a face. He comes in strong by grabbing you by the waist, reel you in for a kiss except you successfully dodged it with your gloved hand.
âLogan? What the hell are you doing?!â
âWell, your mom paid me to flirt with you until you end up falling in love with me, Iâll have a chance in the Junior Legislatorâs Program! Plus, we get to support your family until your dad becomes Senator or whatever, I mean, we donât have a choice on that, we just gotta roll with it,â he beamed with an imbecileâs optimism. âBig bonus if we ever get married though. I mean, she wanted that to happen. So, marry me?â
âHold up. She did what now?â
Logan repeated your own motherâs plan, he reiterated that this part wasnât even in the original agreement. Your mother had to negotiate her way through the Ithrels in promising a much stronger bond of support to your familyâtherefore, you became a sacrificial lamb.
You and Tazha exchanged glances. Both of you communicated clearly through the furrows of your brows and the hard rolling of your eyes. A gradual burst of rage was flowing in your bloodstreams.
âOh my God, this is just sad and pathetic of you, Logan,â Tazha condescendingly comments.
âIâm gonna give her a piece of my mind tonight,â you growled, your knuckles were white from gripping the bannister too hard.
You searched for your mother in the ballroom. When you spotted her and your father speaking with some guests, you marched through the sea of people until you reached her.
âMother, may I speak with you?â
Yasina excused herself from her guest and she was in for a surprise with what is about to go down.
âYou paid one of the Ithrel sons to date me?! Because you thought that would strengthen your connection with them just so Dad can secure his win in the election? You did this without me knowing? Whatever the hell happened to consent, Mom!?â
â[y/n] Elvas Torvel, I do not allow you to speak to me with a tone like that in an important event like this!â Yasina hissed, struggling to maintain her composureâboth mentally and physicallyâafter just being bombarded with questions by her daughter.
âDid you even ever stop to think how Iâd feel if you paired me with a complete imbecile?!â
â[y/n], honey, please listen,â your father intervenes but the argument was heating up between you and your mother.
âThe Ithrels are a good family. They uphold a clear reputation. We Torvels and Ithrels would be a great collaborative enterprise,â
âYou donât see the problem here, Mom? I donât want to get married!â
Yasina was silent. Her face was completely aghast: her eyes wide open, her lip was trembling as if wanting to say something but couldnât because of so much nerves thrashing underneath her skin.
âYou will not ruin this event for your own selfish, adolescent needs, young lady. We are not finished with this discussion.â
âDonât worry, I donât plan on ending it soon.â
You walked out from your parents. Turning your back on them to wipe away the tears that was welling up in your eyes.

People new to medications or scared about: Lamictal, Seroquel, Prazosin, Adderall
So, I've got Bipolar type 2, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, low end of autism spectrum, Depression aaaand I think that's it. I'm seeing all these posts about various mental health medications. And alot of it is SCARY. But I hope this info and personal experience can help a little.
Lamictal/Lamotragine: I take 300mg which is a high dose apparently.
Pros: I'm able to actually register when I'm having a bipolar episode. That means it's easier for me to take action to combat the episode or seek help. Cant fix it if you dont know the problem. Being self aware is so important for everyone especially with MH issues.
Cons: The RASH. Got your attention? This med is supposed to be started SLOWLY. 25mg raise every 2 weeks. Taking an immediate high dose can give you a bad one. I occasionally get a nickle sized non painful rash if I dont take my meds at the same time. Little hydrocortisone and you are good. This also means DONT DOUBLE UP. It is NOT like xanax. You forget short term stuff sometimes. I stutter when I'm thinking faster than I can speak. Say the wrong word like instruments instead of ornaments. But my loved ones caught on fast so they know what I'm trying to say.
Seroquel/Quetiapine: 300mg probably also a high dose
Pros: I can sleep! I usually only get 3 hours a night until I started this. No more creepy monsters in the corners of my room staring at me. It also makes it harder to have a mood switch unwillingly.
Cons: you get the munchies BAD after you take it. And you know what that means, weight gain. I find that if I dont eat a snack after I take it, I wake up feeling like I'm starving to death. SOLUTION. I keep healthy little snacks in my nightstand like fruit snacks, trail mix etc. And I will bring a piece of fruit or some veggies to bed with me. It does make you sluggish in the morning tho đ. Also dont take it then fight to stay awake. It will cause hallucinations. NOT FUN ONES.
Prazosin: 1 to 4mg
Pros: this medication is mainly for PTSD nightmares. Which I have alot of normally. Theres a sweet spot for everybody with this one. On this I dont have horribly traumatic nightmares like people getting decapitated, getting limbs cut off, hit by cars, getting pulled in the vaccum of space... isnt trauma fun? I just have weird dreams, or no dreams. It also makes you drowsy so you take before bed. Here's where it gets iffy.
Cons: just as prazosin can stop nightmares... it can also cause them. This is what I meant by the sweet spot. Mine is at 3mg. My brother in law who did 3 tours in iraq 2mg. It takes some experimenting on your part. Try 1 for a week or 2 weeks if that doesnt work just increase the same way. I mostly promise that it will work if you try. I dont get any physical side effects.
Adderall: ugh this one. 5mg immediate, 10mg extended. Does it help you focus? Yes. Do you not eat? Yes. Does it combat the emotional side of ADHD? No. If you dont know about the non focus related ADHD issues I urge you to look it up. Alot of it can cross with autism but THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE AUTISM. Dont WebMD that shit even tho I know you're going to. Get a professional opinion first. Please.
Cons: oof... jitters, potential hostility, weight loss (for those with eating disorders especially), racing heart, anxiety, disassociation, anger, etc. I dont like that I need adderal. Everyone acts like it's super great but it can very easily be abused.
Well, I hope this helps you rather than scares you. And if you want to know more ask a professional. You can ask me but I wont give medical advice. I am open to sharing my experiences.
Stay strong loves!

alright i think im awake enough to talk about my thots on zero-one from break up to episode 44 so spoilers after the cut in case you havent caught up or youre planning on watching it
so first i guess i should mention the presidential specials, which were just 2 glorified recap episodes that also introduced azu (finally) and the creation of the ark-one key. they are what they are and i get having to just shove it into recap episodes that were released during the point where it was still pretty risky to have actors do anything outside of their homes so i dont really feel much toward them
to the actual point of this, episodes 36-41 i would call good for the most part, there are some things that had to get sidelined due to covid, like fuwa and yuaâs whole thing having to be condensed into a scene or two of them talking to Ai, the therapy robot, but it was still alright all things considered and i cant blame them too much since something like this during the airing of rider has never really happened. in regards to the thousmanâs redemption, it kinda felt like a mix of covid interference and general not knowing how to properly give such a horrible man any kind of redemption. like, iâll admit, his backstory about his robot dog named thouser (hilarious) almost got me until he pulled the âyoure the only motherfucker that can handle meâ with Sonyâs New Product Placement Toy, which made it wrap around from being almost decent to funny in a bad kind of way. also the thing with him committing fucking humagear crimes being born from a love of hiden intelligence was so damn stupid, like are they telling me he couldnt have done the things he did out of like jealousy or some blind belief that hidenâs dreams are foolish or something?? fuck man, that was just really dumb. also how much did sony pay to have them shove so much goddamn footage of aibo into that episode
ark zeroâs introduction was pretty cool, with him just outright fucking possessing horobi and, at first, making his body move unnaturally until he transformed. that was kinda sick. i feel like the cut to yua being outright terrified of ark would have had more impact had she done more stuff in the show, but i think thats genuinely a good way to show how strong/scary a new enemy can be. im also so glad that naki got their own suit and shit, since i remember us hoping that they would at least use the assault wolf key, but kamen rider naki is just so much cooler. thanks so fucking much kamen rider zero-one
also with ark when aruto just lost to him and got scared that maybe his ideals werent totally right, since in his ideal dream world it is technically possible for an ai to become as corrupted like satellite ark and him having to reaffirm what he believes in after fukuoze comes to him and is like âi need shesta back so we can kick gai outâ was good imo. i liked that episode. also the episode where izu ran through multiple simulations was kinda fucked but it ended with her being able to make shit appear in her hands so good for her :)
then with the last of the ark zero shit, horobi uhhhh. hes there. he realizes that maybe sometimes it good to make choices for yourself, i guess. the teamup with him and zero-two was really cool, though. liked that and i liked raiden working with subaru again to take down ark. mostly a good episode if you like the fact that horobi will never change.
i think ive said everything i want to about the episodes i liked so now its time to talk about episodes 42-44, or where zero-one just takes a nosedive into confusing choices that i believe are genuinely bad. to start of with, izu dies. i would feel something about this moment if kamen rider didnt pull this shit all the goddamn time and also if i wasnt at least 50% confident that takahashi is gonna bring her back in some form during the finale like he did with poppy ex-aid. also this is the catalyst that makes aruto turn into ark-one, ditching zero-two after like. two episodes. incredible. this is dumb as hell, im not gonna try to pretend it isnt, because it is far too late in the show for this to happen, even with covid fucking up schedules. there is no reason for aruto to just ditch his morals and become the ultimate evil of zero-one because izu died. this isnt what she would want you moran!! and like, i get it, kind of. they wanted to show that not even good boy aruto, our heroic protagonist, is immune to having malicious feelings. i get killing off izu so aruto can feel malice towards horobi. turning him into ark-one is just dumb imo and they should have done something like his malice being what summons the ark again, but either in a shiny new body, or him using azu, i guess. either way theres no need for aruto to become ark-one.
this part is just nitpicky but during the ark-one fights where it would cut away to ark-one in total darkness, i think it could have been utilized better. like him dodging the shots and attacking everyone else while cutting to those shots would have been really good... had horobi also been visible during the shots they cut to when he was fighting him. like, theres some good potential for symbolism (? i dont really remember film terms too well but i do know what im talking about) here where he just doesnt see anything, except for horobi, who he wants to kill as revenge for izu. it couldve been cool even though this whole thing was really dumb imo!! but it kinda just ended up being a bit confusing in the end.
speaking of dumb shit, i think the fuwa and aruto fight in 44 was wasted in the end. orthoros vulcan is a dope recolor of assault wolf and it had retractable naki claws, so it at least gets points for that. but aruto transforms into zero-two for the first time in 2 episodes which doesnt make sense at first glance since hes ark-one now, but i think they were intending for this fight to be a callback to when zero-one and vulcan were first fighting, which is actually really cool if they meant for it to be this. which i believe so but you never know. anyway this fight was wasted because it doesnt seem to do much?? unless right at the start of 45 arutoâs gonna be like ânah, im not actually gonna fight you, since nobody wants thatâ but even then, going up to horobi and risking a full on war of humagears against humans is still stupid. why would he do that if he learned from his fight with fuwa. also this would have been a cool moment for fuwa to turn arutoâs catchphrase against him!! it would have been so fucking sick for fuwa at one point to say something like âtheres only one person who can save you, and thatâs me!â like fuck!!!!! that would be so cool!!!!! im genuinely upset this didnt happen im not even joking
i think this post went off the rails because i never learn that i cant extensively talk about kamen rider or other interests without becoming incredible incoherent so im ending the post here. thanks if you were able to actually read through this mess and also i do think for the most part kamen rider zero-one is a season worth watching. just maybe not the last 4 episodes.
#canned beef#i really thought i was gonna get away with writing something anybody other than me could understand lmao#next time i plan to do this please shut it down immediately unless i can get like. an editor or some shit

enjoy my theories and me connecting dots that werenât meant to be connected and also random notes
this is from my third time watching the new episode, including every single tiny detail i noticed because when it comes to theorizing i either dont do anything or go all out
also know that I am terrible at reading facial expressions so most of those parts are likely wrong
(under the cut because on google docs it said it was 7 pages long and i am afraid)
virgil looks automatically anxious and frustrated
logan stutters a lot after roman makes the "take off your glasses" joke and i cant tell if hes confused or if hes actually offended by that
what they all say the first time they yell at logan: virgil: "shut up before i shut you up" thomas: "WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH" patton: "hey now heeeyy nowww" slowly turning into song
thomas calls virgil "the purp man"
references to Sword and the stone? may refer to something?
second time they yell at logan: virgil: "i'm gonna prohibit your BREATHING if you keep this up" (damn virge calm down) thomas: "please stop please i really dont want to think about it" patton doesnt speak (im pretty sure)
virgil glances at thomas a lot
is it just me or around the time virgil says "we're going to talk about something else now" he starts to sound a lot like deceit? Especially with that "sure"
roman gets easily distracted
"of course you're not a chick. You're a metaphysical human being. A chick is a really ??? girl"
why does remus appear behind the TV?
patton notices remus when saying "evil" virgil notices remus when saying "show up" and his tempest tongue comes in
when roman get knocked out the first time virgil looks at thomas like hes frustrated or annoyed maybe he looks at thomas like that because he thought it was thomas that was to blame for him showing up? since he was the one to have those intrusive thoughts?
also why does remus smack roman with a morning star?
all dark sides wear eye shadow confirmed
also this disproves the theory that all dark sides have a more animalistic features, therefore proving the headcanon that deceit just puts on makeup to look like he has scales on his face because hes dramatic
virgil looks kind of scared right before the song starts
during the song: logan looks done with everything thomas looks scared virgil looks furious and maybe defensive (that snarl tho) patton looks confused
why is patton of all sides to be the one to puke out remus (that's probably not the weirdest line i've written)
Remus considers any creativity that isn't dirty or horrific (aka his stuff) to be dull or boring
I think the A-Z part of the song is a reference to this one song video about the ABCs of ways to die but i have no clue
Even early on in the song when logan says "It's fine" it shows that hes trying to sort this out and get to the problem, but Remus prevents him from continuing, then allows Pat and Virge to say their thoughts
ROMAN CALLS REMUS "BRO" 8 MINUTES IN
"recently a snake offered me a morsel from the tree of knowledge" reference to deceit but also adam and eve
one of deceit's hands is holding a gavel reference to SvS
also deceit wears a coat just sayin
"No longer will you deceive yourself about the ugliness within you" this means that deceit really doesn't want thomas to lie to himself
why is deceit always the one with multiple arms when half his face is a snake? snakes dont have arms
Is remus holding up the mirror to thomas a reference to remus and roman basically being mirror images of each other?
Remus is SO PALE compared to thomas WHICH IS WEIRD CUZ THOMAS IS ALREADY REALLY PALE
I think remus is actually a lot smarter than he seems he knows how to manipulate thomas into believing hes a bad person by using religious topics and language, something that's been with thomas his whole life
also while remus is singing about hell he turns from normal to fully colored green, similar to all the other sides
Virgil looks so disturbed and frustrated after the song
"I'm really stupid right now" MOOD
when remus agrees with thomas that roman's his creativity he's just like "yeah...." SIBLING RELATIONSHIPS TO A T
Virgil and Remus argue like they know each other super well
Patton's so pure he doesn't even like to say "B-hole" precious dad
Remus uses words that have been said before to back himself up "Why do you want to stifle your own creativity, thomas?" 12 Days of Christmas: "We shouldn't stifle Roman's creative whimsy!" also all the other times roman's admitted to feeling ignored
Virgil's so uncomfortable he might have been afraid that remus would outright say that hes a dark side (bc honestly remus seems like the kind of guy to do that)
Why does remus like Jeffery Dommer so much?
also when remus turned his head to the side at about 10:30 the music matches and sounds like hes cracking his neck
Remus gets confused for a moment when Logan takes his "lot of good that did him!" seriously this seems to be a recurring theme throughout all the dark sides: them being confused by logan taking things literally You think I'm joking? I'm not Virgil early on gets frustrated that logan seems to "only take what he says literally" and I'm pretty sure I remember some time where deceit has to stop to process the fact that logan took one of his metaphors seriously
LOGAN IS A PSYCHOLOGY NERD AND WOULD LIKELY BE A PRETTY DECENT THERAPIST. YOU CAN NOT CHANGE MY MIND
Patton looks so scared when logan asks him to do the experiment. Hes like "what? what do you need me for? what's going on?"
virgil looks so tired and annoyed when he says "good save"
LOGAN GIVING OUT VALIDATION TO PATTON AND THEN LATER TO VIRGIL IS ADORABLE
wait does virgil blow at his bangs whenever he's really annoyed or anxious? because he did that in moving on part 2 while he was dealing with his panic attack in pattons room and then in this episode where he is clearly anxious throughout the whole thing
"No mommy I dont want the mashed potatoes" ROMAN HAS A MOM WHICH MEANS THAT REMUS HAS A MOM BUT WHO TF IS THEIR MOM
when thomas calls remus scary and he responds with that it sounds like a virgil problem Virgil glares at him so clearly defensive and angry remus just smiles like "yeah, i know whats going on"
virgil's the only one who doesnt suspect logan to be deceit when remus claims it
you know when everyone was creating theories about who romans counterpart would be and everyone was expecting them to be extremely elegant and suave? yeah, why the fuck did we think that? If the dark sides are like mirror images of the light sides, then of course remus would be this chaotic demon with literally no elegance whatsoever roman's the elegant, romantic, graceful prince, so of course whatever remus is would be his opposite
Cane and Abel - another biblical reference
also after remus says that virgil looks like hes confused or maybe just deep in thought about something
self-immolate means to set fire to yourself i had to look it up too remus literally wants thomas to strip, set himself on fire and play shake it off
despite all the biblical references reeling thomas in, remus is sooo bad at getting his point across "and then the baby...dies" "AND NO ONE SURVIVES"
a demented version of that "hallelujah" thing plays while hes talking about the baby bird and the airplane
"I am YOUR creativity" at that it flashes to Virgil, who looks like hes thinking about it. probably a sort of build-up to show how long virgil thinks about it before admitting that remus had a point
virgil looks so nervous when remus says that hes never been one to soften the truth
"why would you aspire to be so...boring?" (i feel like the word aspire there is important for some reason)
patton tries so hard to believe that thomas is a good person to the point where he ignores logic
THAT TURN TO LOGAN REMUS DOES IS SO FRICKIN TERRIFYING
it seems like both remus and deceit seem to understand that logan is the most dangerous for them remus threatens logan to try and get him to stop talking deceit chucks logan to the very back of the courtroom in SvS
"TURN INTO A GHOST" "TURN INTO THE HULK"
"I merely gave him a baby...AND A LARGE SHARP KNIFE" ME
"one of you is enough!" I wonder how that line affected Virgil? since it's possible that at this time he was already doubting whether or not hes really grown
PATTON LITERALLY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT REPRESSION IS
that voice-crack when virgil says "But what if he's lying?" That might show how he feels about lying and deceit a bit more. he might be terrified at the thought of being lied to
paranoid is definitely a really bad word to virgil and the others know it. virgil and patton turn to look at logan the moment he says it, and logan freezes for a moment to change it into something better
when both virge and remus say "but what about jeffery dommer" virgil just looks so scared, his eyes darting around as if his mind is racing, probably worried that he really hasnt grown
they keep referring back to "that can't be where the bar is"
Logan says "figuratively" to stop Remus
"I LOVE BEING GIVEN TWO D's AT ONCE"
Virgil looks so afraid that he's still the bad guy in this its so sad
both patton and virgil laugh at poop jokes they are 29â they are very mature adults
"I would never hide anything from you" *glances at virgil* I feel like that might have been the moment virgil realized he couldn't just hide him being a dark side much longer
THEY DON'T EVEN LOOKED SCARED WHEN REMUS SCREAMED THEY JUST LOOKED ANNOYED
as the vid goes on remus tries more and more to be noticed
why did logan ask virgil how thomas was feeling instead of patton? was it because he knew thomas was really anxious or because he felt like patton would claim that he was feeling fine?
while everyone's calming down during logan's lecture, virgil just seems to grow more and more anxious, since he knows that he'll probably have to tell thomas that hes a dark side
thomas and virgil STILL dont want to go to a therapist
virgil just looks so guilty when thomas decides to lie down on the couch
"It was just like old times" when remus says that patton and logan just look so mad that he would say that
after that logan glances up at virgil to see how he feels aww
VIRGIL'S SMILE WHEN ROMAN GETS BACK UP IS SO UNSURE YET SO HOPEFUL AT THE SAME TIME
everyone just looks so proud of logan awww
virgil sounds so lost when hes about to reveal himself
he never calls them "the dark sides", just "the others"
virgil looks on the verge of tears when he says "because i was one of them". it shows how much this affects him, and how terrified he is to tell thomas. this is even more terrifying to him than telling them his name, which was shown to be an important thing to him
and afterwards thomas just goes silent, and looks so lost and confused, maybe even betrayed. he clearly needed a moment to think before saying anything
then virgil shrugs and leaves, his eyes red and full of tears, probably too scared to stay any longer
once he leaves thomas just stares at the ground processing the information
iâm bad at theorizing and my thoughts are a mess rn so all of this is probably complete shit
#sanders sides#ts spoilers#tw remus#tw duke#cursing#what i do when theorizing is write down my thoughts the moment i have them and dont look back

Ehh i think i finally summed up why all of this steven universe diamonds stuff has been so underwhelming.
YES you can redeem a villain
but you have to
actually
TRY
Yes you can write a story about the worldâs most fuckin horrible person being really actually sad at heart
Yes you can write a story about an abusive parent actually being able to change
Yes you can write a story about some wild genocidal alien civilization of asshole space rocks actually only doing it because something something societal pressure DESPITE BEING THE ONES IN CHARGE WHO SET THE DAMN RULES I GUESS
But fucking hell its not gonna be EASY and you shouldnât treat it that way.
All of this shit was SO fucking quick?? And everything else WASNT!
You spent SO long hyping up these guys you spent SO long convincing us that they WERE evil and that they had entirey different motives for what they were doing and EVEN WITHIN THIS FUCKING EPISODE you spent more time showing us White Diamond being absolutely ridiculously existentially horrifyingly awful and refusing every offer everyone gave her to help and refusing every chance and fucking fucking goddamn violating peopleâs entire minds and just.. fuck.
After all that you cant just fuckin have steven walk up to blue and yellow and say âhey everything you did was badâ and them go âGEE WE NEVER KNEW!â for some reason this time theyâre convinced in a single sentence despite it being the same sentence steven said before in every damn episode and pink said to them years before and every person they abused and enslaved and mutilated and KILLED said while they were DYING
And you canât fucking have white diamond never redeem herself and never change and never admit sheâs wrong and steven SOLVE IT WITH FUCKING FIGHTING WHILE SAYING HE DOESNT WANT TO, WHILE THE ENTIRE SHOW TRIES TO CLAIM THE REASON THEY ARE DOING IT THIS WAY IS BECAUSE OF PACIFISM
because seriously he?? just defeated her?? and this made her?? change???
redeeming a villain shouldnât be easy. redeeming a villain has to have the villain TRY. white diamond has done nothing to prove she really has a heart, prove that she really did all this for sympathetic reasons, prove that sheâs able to change, AND ESPECIALLY NOTHING TO MAKE IT UP TO ANY OF THE PEOPLE SHEâS HURT
she just got defeated and basically admitted sheâs wrong cos she has no other choice. and i guess her blushing because steven issued a SICK BURN to her is meant to be enough proof that her entire motivation so far has been because of self confidence issues forcing her to put up a false front aka her entire personality we saw so far. If you wanna tell me sheâs entirely different to what we saw so far then please could you please give it more screentime than twelve goddamn seconds.
This is like how yellow and blue just suddenly were accepted as part of the family and steven agreed to go with them to homeworld literally just because they realized he âis really pink diamondâ. Like they never fucking repented or actually learned to empathise with humans or ever explained why they dont empathise with humans no nope the only answer we got is that they were sad about their sister/daughter/friend dying even though they were already doing all the same evil stuff before that and its what caused her to leave in the first place. no weâre gonna just completely trust them instantly and not even continue making an effort to convince them? weâre gonna trust them so much weâre gonna trust that white diamond will also change just cos we beat her up? COS SERIOUSLY STEVEN FUCKIN DEFEATED BLUE AND YELLOW IN A FIGHT AND THATS THE END OF THEIR ARC, HOW IS THIS PROVING THE POWER OF PACIFISM!! beating everyone up and then saying the same singular sentence again and somehow now it works!! or saying âmy mum was pink diamondâ and it doesnt convince them but hey if we say it again with magical proof its true then i guess it works now. wow that sure does argue the power of words i guess
everything EVERYTHING they did was just a fuckin misunderstanding cos they dont UNDERSTAND they were doing bad and thus they dont have to face any form of consequences beyond being mildly embarassed i suppose.
if you wanna make that the ending then you need to work to disprove all the hours you spent implying that.. yknow.. they were doing things because they were evil
and even if theyre sympathetic they still did evil things and they still need to work to prove that theyve changed
and ESPECIALLY if youâre making a show very heavy on subjects like LGBT discrimination it shouldnt be FUCKIN WOW UNEXPECTED that the audience would see this plot as a metaphor for stuff like homophobia and abusive parents and.. yknow.. societal oppression in a law system that forces you to live in the closet in constant fear of being discovered and killed. and all the other apparantly accidental undertones of racism and extermination of indigenous people in stolen land which YOU REALLY SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED PEOPLE TO SEE WHEN THE PLOT IS LITERALLY EXTERMINATING PEOPLE TO STEAL THEIR LAND
all of that means you need to do MORE work to prove that that isnt actually what the plot is supposed to be, and more work to redeem villains who are very heavily goddamn triggering to a large part of the vunerable audience YOU SPECIFICALLY MARKETED YOURSELF TOWARDS
this was just so fucking overwhelming and somehow rushed despite being an hour long episode, and i hate it because the show spent so much effort on so much other stuff yet decided to half ass it at the really important part that NEEDED to have thought and time put into it if it was gonna nail the landing
especially after ALL THAT FUCKIN TIME AND EFFORT INTO THINGS THAT ONLY AMPED UP THE VILLAINY AND TENSION OF THESE GUYS AND MADE IT SO MUCH WORSE
like fucking hell how can you be so tone deaf??? this has been in the planning for so damn long and theyve been working on it forever and THIS is what they chose to rush over? this is the priorities they thought were important? even just within this episode if youre struggling to fit it all in then like seriously cut out some of the stuff like the montage of unseen fusion forms that did basiclaly nothing but a few jokes, and the equally as rushed bad lars and sadie romance resolution. Which is another thing that needed a lot of work to fix when the introduction we got to these two was a really unhealthy relationship and a dude who refuses to change despite being given twelve chances but suddenly changes COMPLETELY on the thirteenth one and i guess cos he died that proves heâs all good now. Except he acts all weird and creepy in the very next episode and endangers his new friends by acting all possessive over sadie again and getting angry that she has other friends????
i hate it because ive had to deal with the fandom telling all the people who were rightfully uncomfortable with how these subjects were handled that oh weâre just overreacting and oh wait and see cos they totally have a big plan for the ending or something thatâll make it all make sense. And comparing people being triggered by child abuse and racism to âhuhu those dumb su criticals who hate the art styleâ or whatever...
god, man, its just a deflection of what the issue really is
âoh youre saying NO VILLAINS can EVER be redeemed and NOBODY can EVER talk about dark stuff in shows without being SECRETLY BAD AND SUPPORTING IT IN REAL LIFE?â
no im not saying that im just saying the subjects are fucking depressing to people whoâve suffered from the real life stuff and the villain redemption should be GOOD and should THINK ABOUT THOSE PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE if it wants to make up for it
like fucking hell look at how much zuko from avatar went through before his redemption. look at how long he struggled with his morality and how long it took him to realise he was wrong. look at how much detail they showed us on all the people who negatively influenced him into making the bad choices he did. look at how much he went through to make up for what he did and apologise to everyone he hurt. look at how everyone he hurt didnt believe him at first and it took a while for everything to work out. look at how sometimes he messed up and took steps backward before getting to where he needed to be. and look at how he actually changed as a person and continued learning and growing and trying to be a good person even far into the future after the story ended.
hell, fuckin look at PERIDOT! peridot had a full goddamn zuko arc! peridot had more screentime than all of the diamonds combined, and it was way better utilized! she had a full process from being introduced as a scary villain BECAUSE OF MISUNDERSTANDING WHO SHE REALLY WAS, then being revealed as having a fully rounded personality, flaws and redeemable traits while still being a villain. and moments of her proving that she did indeed only become a villain because she didnt understand what she was doing was wrong, and a personality that matched with that reveal rather than having NO INDICATION she was like that until it suddenly happened only after she was defeated. and her redemption came slowly through friendship with steven and it had moments of the other characters not instantly trusting her and also of her making mistakes and struggling with believing stevenâs philosophy when it went against everything she knew about life. and speaking of which it was established that she had a very different life which had negative influences pushing these ideas upon her, and tough stuff that made her scared and pressured. Not just being in a high position of ruling over a planet in the lap of luxury and ONLY AFTER BEING DEFEATED do we learn that they feel pressured by the societal expectation to be perfect and they actually would have agreed all along with dismantling the system but they were just too afraid to be honest. Or whatever the fuck that rushed ending was trying to go for! And man even after peridot joins the team sheâs NOT redeemed yet, sheâs initially only halfway doubting herself and only teaming up with steven because theyâre both afraid of the cluster. And she messes up and says horrible shit to her new friends and feels the consequences of her actions and chooses to change. And her ultimate choice to switch sides is REALLY hard, she gets so close to going back to the diamonds and its a great personal sacrifice on her part when she chooses to give it all up and make an enemy of the person she was so scared of!
and GAHHH that good redemption is one in a million episodes that really set up the diamonds Being Bad and should have been a goddamn tally in the âeffort required in the fuckin endingâ chart!
could we not have even just had one ten minute episode of blue and yellow going around earth and experiencing human life and realizing thereâs things worth protecting? or a few damn scenes foreshadowing white being actually insecure and lying to protect herself, rather than GENUINELY ABUSIVE BECAUSE SHEâS BAD?
and seriously even if you hurt people because you hate yourself YOU STILL HURT THEM
a sympathetic backstory should be a reason why they COULD be redeemed, not proof that they already are redeemed just because the backstory was stated in words and nothing else has fuckin changed.
imagine if zuko just lost one fight to aang and said âyes but my dad abused meâ and aang was like âoh no now lets team up with zuko to beat up his dadâ and none of the bad things zuko did were ever mentioned again and also he keeps his season 1 personality throughout the entire series
imagine if peridot fuckin.. just changed sides cos sheâs funny and we like her. people wantedher to change sides as soon as she acted funny and likeable but they still made the effort to actually prove she had changed! the diamonds didnt act remotely harmless or remotely good until they just suddenly are in the very last episode.
hoo
fucking
ray
also why are we constantly just ignoring all these dark things about homeworld? like the episode with holly blue agate and the famethyst slave caste and all the creepy ways the entire place operated. i totally thought thatd.. yknow.. EVER BE REFERENCED AGAIN?? its never even mentioned that anyone even WANTS to go back and save them?? and the human zoo were outright stated to be like.. unsaveable. âoh theyve never known real human life and theyre happy in their slavery so itd be cruel to take them away from itâ One off episode, forgotten about. And the creepy as fuck scenes of gems being BUILT INTO THE WALLS AND DOORS AS SECURITY SYSTEMS and the confirmation that more lapis situations are constantly going on yet somehow that singing hairbrush person doesnt get all the sympathy that she did. And steven going daww at the pebbles instead of being horrified that theyre born to work as servants and forced to live in the walls because the noblewomen dont want to look at them? and he asks them to make him a new outfit?? and theres no plot anything involving them except them puttering around in the background outfitting?? like was none of this meant to be seen as PROOF THAT THE DIAMONDS WERE EVIL and PEOPLE WHO NEEDED TO BE SAVED????
goddddd
please say they were rushed or something please say this is all the faultof being given less time than they expected please say there were other plans for other episodes we didnt see that would have given at least slightly more substance to any of this
also why wasnt this even advertised as the last episode if its the last fuckin episode
hhhh well at least obsidian was a great character design and so were the other fusions and new outfits even if they only appeared for twelve seconds. and whiteâs whole scary evil mind invasion stuff was really good even if it actually hurt the episode by being good, kinda
man im not even mad or anything i just feel mehh and bored and like im actually glad its over. i never wanted to feel that way about a show that used to be so good. i kinda wish the earliest episodes werent so good if the answers to all those well set up mysteries were gonna have so much less effort than the setup itself
...man i should make a whole post about all the mistaken ways i THOUGHT the show was gonna go that actually would have been way more interesting than the real answer.
iâm just super glad that my last theory was wrong cos wow that would have been the only thing worse than this ending! when white pearl first appeared before weâd actually seen white diamond, and it had all this thing that white diamond hadnt been seen in ages.. well i was worried it was setting up some sort of reverse twist where actually white pearl is bodysnatching white diamond instead of vice versa. So the whole evil empire would actually be run by a member of the slave class that its oppressing, and the diamonds/representative of the upper class would actually be poor victims all along. dear god i am so glad i got that wrong! tho im weirded out by how evil white/pink pearl looked in that first hint that she was originally pink pearl??
anyway basicallly im just so fuckin tired
#su spoilers#su critical#more like su dissappointed from someone who started off so damn su positive#su bored su rushed su i just wanted you to care as much about making this redemption good as you cared about other things#it really felt like in general the crewniverse just lost interest in the story around the third hiatus or so#whyyyy did they take so long to reveal anything if all the reveals were gonna be so fast and so bad#you gotta learn that if you hype up a thing you actually have to deliver#like fuckin hell it took a whole season to even introduce a single other gem at all#and so long to introduce homeworld and so long to introduce the diamonds and then whoops blink and its over i guess#also why was jasper hyped up so much and then shitcanned for practically a decade#and her only narrative purpose in the end was just a brief hint at the pink diamond arc

AHS Apocalypse 8x03 Live Stream
SPOILERS UNDER CUT
Oh I thought the opening scene looked like the Dinah, Coco, Mallory descencum. Damn Michael...
Night Vision of the soul? Tell me about your powers!
Lol, spoiler, entitled, helpless.Â
OMG COCO! Fire Mallory lol
âSomething Darkâ
DAMN CALL HER SHALLOW!
Og again? He knows Dinah?
SHEâS NOT POWERFUL ENOUGH?!
DINAH IS A WITCH!
MICHAEL CONFIRMED IT!
Ish
Dinah is in the sanctuary!
Evil soul?
Oh nvm, itâs Andre.
Unless Dinah is Andreâs son...?
God this is one opening scene of mind fuckery.
I want Dinah to use some powers
Malloryâs made for that world?
Mallory should want to leave.
Ew what an ugly close up to Michael.
Oh Mallory has a darkness..... Unfun.
MALLORY PUSHED HIM BACK
MALLORY IS A WITCH!
OMG MALLORY PYROKINESISED MICHAEL!
Thatâs right Mallory! Call his ass right back out!!!!
OMG MY THEORY THAT DINAH MALLORY AND COCO R WITCHES ARE RIGHT!!!
THEY DID DESCECUM WHEN THE OTHER 3 WALK IN!
BEST OPENING SCENE IN AHS HISTORY!!!
I swear the opening theme has been changing scenes every week.
ITS COMMERCIALS AND I AM SCREAMING IN EXCITMENT STILL THAT MALLORY, BILLIE LOURD, AND DINAH, SAME NAME AS BLACK CANARY, ARE WITCHES!!!
I still wonder if Cocoâs a witch based on set pics Ryan Murphy released.
I am so excited to find out how Dinah knows Michael.
Adina Porter came out and said the scripts made her mind twist and turn, and well I hope itâs true cause itâll be interesting to see a strong black witch since Angela Basset is too busy with 911 to come back as Marie.
Omg Michaelâs doing a spell, ritual.
I wonder if itâs Tate father of devil father.
OHHHH Itâs a scrying!!!
He thought he destroyed them all?
Michael did the witches?!
HE DESTROYED WHO? THE WITCHES?!
I cant with this fucking shit. Omg Witches need to ocme and take hsi ass back.
Boiling blood is actually kind of a cool effect.
Am I the only one whos still scare dof Michaelâs demon face that happened earlier?
Oh yay the snakes are still around.
Ave Satanis... âAwaken Satanâ right?
Kathy Bateâs voice is so distinct.
Her own self made costume is adorable.
The tricker treatgiver is a famous actress I remember her from places.
Wasnât Kathy Bates in Rosemaryâs baby?
Go Young Kathy Bates! Slap him.
Oh shit, sheâs a good fighter!
Oh sheâs an agent. This makes sense.
Can we have Kathy Bates in Spy 2?Â
Can someone inform Melissa McCarthy and 50 Cent Piece to get Kathy in on this?
Oh everything happened on Halloween in Kathy Batesâ life. Nice.
Okay as nice as robot Kathy Batesâ life story is, can we get back to the witches?
I still swear Mallory and Coco are connected because theyâre witchy powers keep them together.
I am so validated by this knowledge they were witches.
Awww Venable showing support for Kathy Bates is actually touching.
Omg Venable being so adamant on Michael is very interesting.
âThatâs Outrageousâ
âIf you die here, Justice dies hereâ Really? youâre the sadists here!
âKill everyone!â Jeez Kathy, these methods are nice.
â Youâre mean and self invovled enough to survive anything, and Iâm a robotâ
Oh is this guy the Coco husband who screams âYou bitch?â
Someone saw a leaked pic that he appears again I think.
I was a finalist on top chef omg hahahhaa
Omg, he is very good âtrackingâ her for a year.
No one sees the figure approaching behind him?
I wonder where this guy got the gun.
Wait I guess we know officially that the apocalypse did actually happen.
How come these people can breath fine without pain like the people Michael claims he saw.
mother with kids^
OMG ANOTHER WITCH BREACH?!
STEP FORTH WITCHES PLEASE!!!!!
MADISON I INVOKE THEE!!!
They teleported in already I bet.
Ugh.... Why canât we just reveal the witches already.
Anyone have any guesses where Michael did the ritual? I am very curious? How do people not notice things that happen in this place?
Apples... cause theyâre fucking for Adam and Eve aka UCLA and Jail Girl
lol a nurtition blog!
Oh Venable happy enough to try the red delicious.
Vine providence? Wtf Kathy Bates....
Before they die? Donât you just kill them anyways?
âNot a bad apple in the bunch?â Is that symbolism for they all deserve to go to the sancutary?
WHERE ARE THE WITCHES?
I could honestly care less about Cocoâs husbando bf guy.
How can he breath the air and not the guy in the mask?
This Nuclear fallout is making less and less sense to me.
Less sense than where are the witches of all things.
I ownder how Coco will react ot seeing him.
MALLORY STARE AT THE FIRE AND INVOKE THINGS PLEASE!
Oh another Gray got a speaking line.
God I have a lot of thoughts tonight.
Celebration and Comradery?
Wait the only saved Asian is a Gray....
Victorian Masquerade Ball.... @holypancakes is about to blow it!
What are they going to be able to make in this bunker.
Omg Coco, and Gay Evan Peters destroying Mallory is so relatable and sad.
Omg Stew!!! I love how they love Stew.
âI donât wanna rub it in for the ones who donât get pickedâ lol
âNo offense Malloryâ BAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAJA
These 1v1â˛s is hilarious.
OMG WHY THE FACE AGAIN :â(
Oh Malloryâs coming out of the broom closet!
Oh theyâre laughing at him.
NO MALLORY ITS NOT THE BLAST!
OMG DARK PHEONIX! Shit thats so meta, with Quicksilver right there lol.
Coco commanding shit.Â
I know she probably wonât but pleas Mallory do something.
This is such a Cinderella point.
Shit Coco is kind of getting a little far right now.
She totally had a point with Evieâs room.
OH IS THIS WHEN MADISON APPEARS IN THE BEAK MASK TO DINAH OR WHOEVER IN THE TRAILER?!
I know itâs not confirmed but we all know that mask was the same Madison wore for to scare Zoe in Bitchcraft.
LOLÂ âSweet horsesâ
Lol Mallory has to introduce her.
LOL THAT BOO
FX WTF DONâT U FUCK UP THE PICTURE AUDIO NOW!
Oh shit Venable knows the Ghosts situation.
I mean if itâs been 18 months, this has happened before.
I wonder how many monologes Sarah Paulson has this season.
WHAT MUSIC WILL PLAY I WONDER?!
No idea what this symbolizes honestly.
Oh UCLAâs wire crown is actually creative.
OMG THE FOG IS ROLLING IN WHICH MEANS THE WITCHES CAN COME!
Madison is not that tall, so idk who that could be.
Mr. Langdon doesnât seem that tall either.
Is Coco dying? Damn....
I still pray itâs Madison, but still.
Wait Coco got into Harvard?
I hope itâs like by real merit. Not money.
BITCH YOU WERE TRYING TO BE AN INFLUENCER U NEVER MADE IT!
Analingus omg Coco.
Cocoâs about to die sigh.
Coco can you not....
Short tongue and sensitive gag reflex. sigh this show.
Oh shit Brock I forgot he was around lol.
HOW DARE SHE INVOKE SUSHI!
Brock doesnât look happy.
NOOOOOO COCO!!!!!!!!
SOMEONE VITAL VITALUS HER!
WHERE IS MISTY?!
BRING COCO BACK!!!!
COCO WAS SEEN IN OTHER SET PARTS AND SHIT!
Lol festivities and your gun. Bitch, has no clue who Michael is.
So many snakes.
I wonder how bored they must be that this si so thirlling for them.
I wonder how many times these peopl have bobbed for apples. I think itâs harder than this I think.
I also think itâs weird UCLA and Jail Girl are so calm right now about all this. They were about to be murdered last week. I donât knwo how I could deal with these people.
I wonder how bad this mass suicide will end up.
Oh Gay Evan Peters sis howing signs.
Mallory might be immune?
Oh nvm she threw up.
Oh UVLA had blood on Jail Girl ew.
Gay Evan Peters looked so fake.
I wonder what itâs like to act this scene.
Okay so where is Misty to bring everyone back?
Literally we know Misty is in the first 5 episodes since the trailer promos only filmed the first 5 episodes at time they made it. I thought sheâd be in later.
Misty being team Michael would make so much sense based on what we just saw.Â
âOh Venable you think you killed everyone? HA! Watch this,â Michael shows Misty who dances around and brings everyone back.
âAnd hereâs the trickâ hahahaha
Iâm still waiting for Michael to bring Misty in.
I wonder when theyâre going to realize Cocoâs like head stabbed.
Oh shit heâs just open about the laptop being there lol.
I think this is funny, let alone Michael.
Oh shit, she passed the test!
I wouldnât do that either.
NO SCARY FACT IS COMING BACK :â(
Oh wait sheâs on his side duh #HailSatan
OH SHIT!!! CONCILUM!!!!
BE THAT WARLOCK MICHAEL!
I know why she did it.
Michaelâs monologe right now is so confusing.
Not what heâs saying, but how interested I am.
Where is the witches?
Someone from his childhood?!
The Beautiful Boy? Iâm still confused by this.
Okay so this song is so calming over these corpses and bile.
Brock is around doing what right now?
OH SONG CHANGE?!
THERE IS A HOUSE IN NEW ORLEANS?!
Oh no, it might not be?
OMG THEYâRE COMING!
THEYâRE HERE!
OMG I BET THEY ARE!!!!
AHHHHHHHHH!!!!
THEYâRE IN MY EYE SIGHT!
I SEE THEM!!!
IâM DYING!!!!
I AM CANARY CRYING ALL OVER THE PLACE RIGHT NOW!!!!
OMG MY EYES MY HEART MY LIFE!
I CANâT HANDLE THIS OMG YASSS BRING THEM BACK!
BRING BACK MALLORY AND CO!
FIND OUR SISTERS YES!!!!!!
I KNEW IT COCO IS A SISTER!
YASSSS RESURGENCE!Â
Madison looked happy to see them back.
OMG YES MADISON KNEW! SHE GOT THE LAST LINE!
AHHHHH SHE GOT THE LAST LINE!!!!
i am so happy!!!!!

the rise of skywalker = good
spoilers under cut you were warned
we love sheev the movie
best movie? no. room for improvement? yes. a really good movie overall and the characters were good and made overall good/decently logical choices? absolutely.
fin good. i love him. and the obvious hint he can use the force is 10/10 he did so much work in this movie. i like poe/fin or rey/fin. or all three together, fuck it, they all hugged in the end anyways
poe is good heâs a good boy him and finn are so good. poe gets a lot of development and care and we love that he struggles but loves his friends and wins in the end by believing in others to come. (he did think they lost but only for a second. he was proven right that people would come. thanks lando we appreciate you here.)
rey is amazing and her growth/struggle is great i love that sheâs a palpatine thatâs so metal. and she stays good oough yess. palpatine wins in the end? or at least A palpatine? the only survivor? no more sith OR jedi. just. rey palpatine and any other new force users like fin. FINALLLY, evil wins! kinda lmao hahhaahhaha
i like how technically the series stared with palpatine and ended with rey.Â
it started with a slave child in the desert (anakin) who became dark, and ended with a child soldier in the dark who became light at the end (ben)
-
the sheev-ening. we love emperor step peppers. heâs so good in this. force storm yaâll!!Â
âhiS pLaN MakEs nO sEnSe!!1!â
shut tf up. either he possesses rey once she killed him, or he sucks the life outta her and restores himself once he found out about that bond power with ben or force healing whatever it was if she refused (like he did), or just kills her and sends his troops out to take everything over like. thatâs not a bad plan bro. he wins either way. the only reason he lost is because the dummy killed himself with his own force lighting (AGAIN, DIDNT YOU LEARN FROM EPISODE 3 OLD MAN????). she did not strike him down, she defended. he killed himself, technically. she pulled a luke in that sense. it was not the jedi way. (though i guess by the end she is neither sith nor jedi)
plus he made an armada in secret the man was geared for success and had access to cloning tech too, as shown by snoke. if he couldnt have rey, he would have cloned himself or some shit. he has space voodoo, the man is scary and i love him for it.Â
-
ben was. ok. kylo was much more intimidating and straight forward with his actions at least. and ben switching sides made sense. what i didnt like was his ending very much. why tf did he and rey kiss????? they were enemies for 2 and 3/4 movies. they didnt even speak until he showed up to help fight palpatine.Â
there is a bit of tension but not romantic whatever, he just poofed once he resurrected rey anyways. rip all skywalkers 2019
she is an adopted skywalker and thatâs nice.
side tangent bc iâve been seeing some fans crying over benâs death, which i get it if you are a big fan of him:
((i guess i was just way more invested into rey as a character than ben solo. he was. there. he was alright, i could see the struggle but the tone-shift from TLJ really threw things wack and i just ended up not caring too much when he died unforntuately. i wish i did more. i mean it was sad, it would have been neat if he lived, but i kinda saw it coming as soon as rey âdiedâ
im like, oh, heâs gonna climb up bc of course heâs fine and then save her since he saw her use force healing, so heâs gonna try it. heâs resurrecting the dead so itâs either gonna kill him or really make him weak. we got the former so. yeah. it was anticipated kinda. leia dying was much more emotional for me i guess. the love between her and her son was way more impactful than ben and rey.Â
like i said!! they were enemies for so long!! he tried to reach out, but he was a slimey dark side bitch who was trying to convert her and she knew it and wasnt down with that shit!! that aint romantic yaâll!! christ! he was only good for 20 minutes before he died and they didnt even talk before he just showed up! if they had more time really getting into it and if he was good and reached out to her to talk, that would have been way better and more convincing is all im saying.Â
sure they fought together on snokeâs ship and talked, but it was still very. scary for rey. and then he attacked her friends and rebellion again! bitch, why did she kiss him!?
nothing against reylo shippers, i really dont care, thatâs your business, i personally enjoy fin/rey much more, im just saying it seems forced in this situation. they tried to kill each other so many times. thatâs animosity, not love.))
WHERE WAS ANAKIN AND OBI FORCE GHOST UGH. at least we got all of the voices of the jedi past helping rey in the climax that was awesome (including jin, obi, yoda, anakin, luke, leia, ect)
yeah also rip leia. she should have died in the second movie but she was good in this and it really hit the feels since carrie is... dead for real.
luke was good in this!!!! helpful boy!!! nice boy!!! i liked the flash back to when he trained leia it was so sweet to see them young again, if only for a moment.
the han solo scene was good ough my heart.Â
all of the characterâs choices were overall good and made sense in the scheme of things, everything was streamlined bc it had to be.
it kinda felt like 2 movies crammed into 1 but it kinda worked and that makes sense bc of TLJâs.... choices and changes in direction.Â
i dont think this movie was a train wreck. itâd place it as my 3rd fav star wars movie. for now, i may shift things around but you get the idea.
my current rankings so far for main line live action sw moviesÂ
(rogue one would be at 4 along with revenge of the sith and i didnt care enough to see solo.)
1. empire strikes back (obvious pick)
2. a new hope (luke is best boy)
3. rise of skywalker (as listed above)
4. revenge of the sith (clone wars show really got me to like older anakin. and obi is just. 10/10 in general. speaking of generals, i love grievous. and commander rex. rip all clones and jedi tho. F)
5/6. return of the jedi/force awakens (about even)Â
[the thing about return of the jedi is that the ending whole section with the death star and vader and palpatine and the struggle against jabba were really good! it just a lot of other stuff is... meh in the film]
7. the last jedi (sorry had to do it to ya. also rip Phasma)
8/9. phantom menace/attack of the clones (yaâll know why)
im so glad im rewatching the clone wars show it was so good and oughghghg so good. i love the clones so damn much and everyone so much
star wars good yaâll
anyways, i already loved palpatine and im just wildinâ right now we love a emperor. a queen. a bad bitch you cant kill. just vibin. like damn, iconic. he said âdo itâ and everything. a meme legend and godsend
in sheev we trust. you belong with sheev. real sheev hours. the sheev-ening. palpatine-ception. you name it, we vibe with it
NOW I WANT A NICE AU WHERE THE CHARACTERS LIVE AND PALPATINE IS JUST A GRANDDAD. scary but nice granddad to rey or some shit. anakin is still around, they are all still around. just silly fun alright?
LMFAO ROTTEN TOMATOES PUTS IT AT A 56% BUT HAS AN AUDIENCE RATHING OF 86% WTF LMFAOOOO THESE PEOPLE ARE HACKS
the reverse of TLJ and i can see why the stupid irony lmFAO
the âthank you rian johnsonâ tag trending on twitter is wack and itâs dumb. his movie was dumb yaâll. thatâs my take and im not alone. im not some crazy hardcore fan either nor do i care that much about the politics or what ever. the characters in TLJ made REALLY dumb decisions that got their butts kicked and people killed over and over and it was not fun to watch everyone being dumb and dying, alright? wack. bad vibes.Â
i didnât care for the âthank you jj abramsâ tag either bc both tags ended up just being one taking pot-shots at the other and it was full of nasty vibes. just a lot of negative bullshit and only a few good comments just saying what they liked about those movies. i appreciate when people just say they like something. even if itâs something i PERSONALLY dont like, itâs neat to see. but when people bitch and moan, even if i agree personally, it isnt that fun. itâs annoying as hell, esp if itâs mostly unfounded or just repeated a million times.
like months later, or also about something from years ago, people still havent shut up about it. thatâs when i get pissed off. like, sure, hate something. say you hate it, whatever. your blog your platform, go off queen, but then shut up please and dont drag it out forever. people dont like negativity so expect people to leave your ass behind if you keep at it. or get blocked or whatever.Â
negative shit all the time just aint a good look is all im saying. just love what you love and show it. itâs nice. the good part about fandoms is sharing love for media.
but hey, itâs your life. you do whatever, who am i to say anything?

So, Iâm in the same boat as all the listeners Iâm gonna take this ride with them and learn all about you your journey through the martial arts.
Shelley Devine:
Okay well itâs funny that you know Iâm in the middle of developing a podcast and how I came to you through a referral was I was interviewing one of your listeners who was a black belt who used to be one of my students many, many years ago when I was actually a yoga instructor. And then also training my slides but then teaching like a cardio kickboxing class and she went on to become a black belt so there you go. Itâs funny how things you know wind around and you end up in places like Iâm in the hot seat right now being you know the interviewee and instead of the interviewer.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Itâs weird isnât it?
Shelley Devine:
Itâs very interesting. I mean, Iâve been in this seat before but in a different context and not about so much about myself but it is funny doing it this way. Iâve been on video before and then Iâve also spoken, years ago when womenâs mixed martial arts was coming up when you know the women were just getting into the cage and speaking to, oh god what was his name, Goldman he does the no holds barred podcast I think do you recall that at all Jeremy?
Jeremy Lesniak:
I donât but keep talking and Iâll see if I can look it up real quick.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah, I mean it was some time ago he interviewed me after I been in New York watching, while actually photographing and writing an article about womenâs Muay Thai fight in New York, you now like they didnât they didnât have an MMA in the art but they would allow for the Muay Thai kickboxing so I was there watching that and photographing some of the women there and also you know, interviewing some of them writing a little article about you know women fighting. It was all that was just strictly women shout which was kind of unusual at that time.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Eddie Goldman does that name sound right?
Shelley Devine:
Yes. Eddie Goldman. Yes yeah. I canât think of his first and last name but yeah, he spent he was kind of like the first podcast that I can never really remember before like even joe Roganâs out there. People would listen to him you know he was really pretty much the only show I thought was kind of around.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Yeah. You know itâs fun to go back to some of those early days of podcasting because you had to work for it. You had to work to produce and you had to work to listen to it for the most part. There werenât the convenient options that you know you and I were talking a little bit before we went live here that you know, there is some work that goes into this but you really at the end of the day itâs about consistency, itâs about the relationships you build in getting the guests and the content the technical stuff which 10 years ago was the limiting factor is not the limitation now.
Shelley Devine:
Not at all itâs become so much easier now to be able to do it. I mean last year when I started even, I had help from a friend of mine who was the videographer and he knew sound so he had all the microphones and he had all the, I donât know, all the gear and the contraptions know what he did but he put a microphone in my friend my mouth then and I would talk tonight, we had guest and he put mics in front of them you know in front of them and they would talk and then he would go back to shop and I didnât know what happened how he would put it all together. I was clueless and Iâm learning that now and I was like oh wow it just got so much easier. You know, that they have all these like I mean, you can do this on skype now you just need a microphone and the microphones are really great now too so itâs really definitely come a long way.
Jeremy Lesniak:
A very long way. Well of course this is not how to start a podcast, podcast. This is martial arts radio and obviously we have you want to talk about martial arts. Letâs go back, you mentioned yoga we talked a little bit before we started about kickboxing, but letâs go back all the way to the beginning when did you start martial arts?
Shelley Devine:
I started late in life. I started well actually my daughter when she was young probably in elementary school wanted to take a karate class so I think she was maybe you know first grade, 2nd grade and one of her friends parents was opening a school that was local to us so I was like well you know letâs go over and try it out and I got the kids both kids involved and they loved it and then they said that they were going to have a cardio kickboxing class for the women and so I took that and you know itâs kind of funny because I remember hitting, I still itâs a visceral feeling, I remember hitting the heavy bag and I was just like oh my god, I have to like explore this more and as I got into just doing the cardio can boxing class it was a gateway for me to take the karate class, it was a gojiru karate and I did that learn some forms and stuff and then, there was an evening class that was more scary and there was no women in it and want to do that it was a traditional jujitsu class and it was with a ragtag kind of group of guys that didnât really have a gym and they would go around and they would, oh can we rent space here and use your gym in the evening and they happened to be friends with JosĂŠ Alfonzo who was my karate instructor and I ended up going into that class and I remember watching it being terrified because they actually used like real knives and real weapons and the guys were really kind of hard core and the more I learned about them the more I was like oh my gosh these guys are nuts. And you know it was safe but it actually really was and it was safe under you know while in that environment of the two main instructors JosĂŠ and bob Pasolini but if I went off with those guys to their own like you know what they were out in the street maybe training it was not a safe environment to train at all. These guys were a little nutty and by the time I started, I got to my yellow belt but that then the school shut down and I was lost, I didnât have a place to go my kids were kind of you know they did have a place in and they were kind of like I donât want to do this anymore and a couple of women who their kids ended up going in to Hyde park to, actually kind of a bit of a famous school itâs called one step beyond in Boston. I donât know if youâve heard of it?
Jeremy Lesniak:
That the name is of slightly familiar but I canât place why.
Shelley Devine:
Well Billy blanks used to teach there, he used to do cardio kickboxing out in Hollywood whatever he used to teach the stars well apparently, I didnât know this at the time but he used to work there I guess. And so, some of the women were saying oh you know we know this girl that could teach a cardio kickboxing class so I started teaching cardio kickboxing there. I think Paul [00:10:39.49] was the owner at the time and stayed there for a bit I wasnât like I was in this place, I was like I need to learn in and I kinda felt like I need something else I didnât know what it was and then my old instructor JosĂŠ called me cause he had moved to Florida and said Shelley what are you doing you now and I said I canât find a place and he goes, I think you like this place up in [00:11:07.52] mass called small circle jujitsu with the guy there and [00:11:10.21] heâs a great instructor I think youâll feel really like it you should go up and check that place out. I trained there for a bit, I think youâll really like it. So, I went there and I stayed there for a lot of years I got my brown belt, I think I was about third-degree brown belt and I was in there like little black belt club and at that time was opening up my yoga studio with my ex-husband which led into we open up a martial arts studio inside the yoga studio so that was kind of cool. We had both things going on but we you know with having a business together and all that we both ended up going our separate ways he took the studio and made his way with that made it into a great gym itâs a pretty good just now a lot of people go to it and I transitioned to [00:12:03.04] Muay Thai kickboxing. So, went back to kickboxing and I have been there ever since, itâs been my home I have my blue monk called there, trained in Thailand for a little bit, I went there for a month got to train with [00:12:16.01] and also got to go to Singapore and train a little bit there too you know, just for about a month but was such a great experience but thatâs when I pretty much my travels in martial arts.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Here you are, youâre bouncing around your finding your way through the world martial arts and I want to go back one of the first things you said that you remembered hitting that heavy bag and needing to, I donât remember the exact word you use explore that was kind of my take away, what is it about that experience that the light bulb switched on?
Shelley Devine:
It was a really visceral. It was something that like, itâs almost like you recognize the part of yourself that was never really explored and as a young girl I can remember are you now watching say Muhammad Ali fight and you know that was kind of something I will watch with my dad and I used to kinda get in fights when I was a little girl and I was the one that people would come around you know if they were having enough they were being bullied or something and I would protect them or something and Iâd have you know, first I talk to the person and then it would lead to okay fist are getting thrown and I would usually walk away. Okay and it was kind of even like boys that happen with girls in my teens and I just never really, I mean, the martial arts werenât really an option it was only saw boys doing that you didnât see girls doing it. And so it never really I think you know all those years it really wasnât an option for me and then when I was taking the cardio kickboxing class, you now, I was in my late 30s and I just was like wow I loved it and I wanted to explore and I got to you know when I, I think there was an instructor there, gosh I wish I could remember his name, on it was a boxing coach and heâs like you fought before and Iâm like, not really he goes well you know how to stand and I was like well itâs just innately natural, Iâd [00:14:45.00] had no training but maybe just watching fights when I was a kid watching the boxers and stuff. And just one thing led to another and I was just so curious and I loved the, a little bit of that adrenaline rush of being fearful of you know the weapons attacks when I was doing the traditional jujitsu and learning all the technical aspects of things and how the body moved and then I could relate to a spiritual sense so it was just kind of something that was aha! Itâs all coming together. And you know how it affects your body that holistic kind of effect that martial arts has where you know, you youâre working in a circular fashion a bit of, you have an opponent and then you have your yourself and the opponent is only a reflection of something that you are fearful of anyways to begin with and its just kind of contrast and thatâs what fighting has always been for me. Or are dealing with something in martial arts when youâre training, it just helps to improve you and whole-body sense in that bag I think just when I hit it just brought it all to the forefront and I was like oh my god I love this. You know, kind of crazy but thatâs, I think thatâs the best description I can give to it. It just embodies everything that I felt like I could I wasnât you now, experiencing my life, how strange was that right?
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well, it is and it isnât. Because itâs not that dissimilar to what weâve heard from others on this show and you know without an attempt at sexism you did bring it up I think sometimes for women, this is a real thing. You know I think this is why typically when I look into cardio kickboxing fitness kickboxing whatever is the ranks and there tend to be women whereas when we look at traditional martial arts the dynamics overall 10 the flip it is a male-dominated pursuit unfortunately but here is kind of the more visceral the more physical aspect in an approachable way for women and I think thatâs great. I mean personally and Iâd love to see it much more balanced on both sides but it is what is.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah, itâs moving in that direction. You know, we have women now that are fighting on a male platform that you know you have in the UFC, you have women men fighting in the same cage and women are fighting the same cage, you know they were fighting for same-sex opponents which is the way I would want it, but itâs something thatâs new, this is you know so new and you know when you look at the cardio kickboxing classes theyâre just gateways for women to take it to the next level to enter like say a karate class or traditional jujitsu or Brazilian jujitsu class or a kickboxing and Muay Thai kickboxing class and where they would be typically afraid to do that because thereâs a part of them that is just not exercise, itâs the part of their natural law, human, I was talking about this with another woman yesterday about like bringing in that aggressive side of being a human being and I think it suppressed in women and I think it has been for a very, very, very long time and it is just maybe in the last you know generation of women itâs starting to really reveal itself you see it more because itâs more accepted that women are playing sports. You know, when we can play soccer, they can play baseball, theyâre playing football, theyâre playing you know we see it in tennis but we have, now we have racecar drivers that women. So, youâre seeing women doing things that would typically male dominated by you know now itâs worth seeing, young girls are saying that there are no limits. Not just, you donât just have to be a hairdresser or not that thatâs a bad, you know, Iâm not knocking hair dressing but those were the only options is the be a teacher or nurse or a hairdresser or something of that you know or a massage therapist and those were really the only work kind of opportunities that I saw in growing up and or be a mom and stay at home with the kids which is all fine. I mean I think thatâs a great, those are great professions and thereâs no job tougher than being a stay-at-home mom I think. You know, if your home with kids and stuff thereâs no greater job that you could do on earth or even to be a father. But those were the only things that maybe a young girl saw or now they could be an architect or they could be a mixed martial artist and fight in the cage and that wasnât you know, thatâs only in my lifetime that Iâve seen that my generation, you know and it was later in life you know, Iâm saying like didnât start until I was in late 30s and hitting 40s soâŚ
Jeremy Lesniak:
Not only is, say like MMA, an option for women but we had a several year period with the biggest mixed martial arts draw in the world was a woman. And there is not another sport that weâve had that Iâm aware of or that you ever been able to say that. People tuning in to watch Ronda Rousey, this is not an MMA show and listeners donât worry weâre not gonna, you know take a hard left here and really go down that path but it bears mentioning because at least in the early days, MMA folks were coming out of traditional martial arts and Ronda Rousey I mean maybe sheâs moved on the professional wrestling now but you know I still look at her is one of ours, because she came out of judo.
Shelley Devine:
Yes absolutely.
Jeremy Lesniak:
So, I think we get we get to claim some ownership over her and what she has done forâŚ
Shelley Devine:
Absolutely she truly a flashlight as I think you know, being a mixed martial artist is exploring all different types martial arts and thatâs the journey of being a martial artist, sticking with one system isnât necessarily going to you know, limit you but why not explore other you know judo is one thing, you learn how to toss somebody around and in learning leverage and learning your own bodyâs balance but then if you decide to go online kickboxing that thatâs a whole other you know, thatâs a whole other way of using your body as a weapon you have eight limbs to use in a different way other than you know, say tossing somebody in judo.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Thereâs a bit of a Muay Thai reference in there isnât there? Eight limbs. Not everyone may get that reference.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah so itâs just you know martial arts is, offerâs such full spectrum of how to exploit yourself as a human being more so than you know I we touched on that, I was a yoga instructor and the only downside of itâs kind of I feel like in my own practice being a yoga instructor and then being martial artist, the two were like okay they seem like very at odds with one another but bringing them together I think yoga is a part of mixed martial arts too which I donât think god customarily mixed martial artist would say that but it is cause itâs another art and it is another way to the body and to connect with source. And I think as much license were trying to do too, depending on you know through our bodies, to our minds, to our spirits and I donât know. I think you know, going down that road of you know women being in mixed martial arts you know Ronda Rousey doing what she did and sheâs on that platform and she created this this this opportunity but she started out as you know a judo player and she became an Olympic athlete but she couldnât do anything with that. That was her love and her passion she couldnât survive on being an Olympic athlete and I donât know too many martial artists unless they open a gym that can survive on just being a competitor.
Jeremy Lesniak:
I would say there are none.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah. And why is that? You know like it seems kind of when weâre on this question, we love this kind of movement in our body and itâs an interactive movement and it really expresses who we are as humans to one another. Itâs like oh what do you, how come we canât, I donât know what Iâm trying to say here but itâs just going down a rabbit hole. Itâs just interesting to me and I donât know where to go with that I guess.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well youâre not the first person to wonder about that why is it that the best of the best when it comes to martial arts do not have the opportunities that so many other disciplines pursuits do if you are the best biologist in the world you have grant money thrown at you, academic institutions will fight over you and say âhey do your research, we just want to support you and maybe we you know, take somewhat some your patentsâ or whatever you know that thereâs a path there, but the best martial artist in the world are not exploring martial arts. They are not bettering martial arts and moving it forward as I think most of us if we at least considerate would wish they would. And itâs because those opportunities arenât available and hopefully in the coming years it will be an option, and you know full disclosure that something that we are hoping to do here at whistlekick, we are hoping to be able to take you know these amazing people when they retire from competition or you know they maybe they arenât even competitors and say okay you know what you go spend the next three years and train and teach and explore and research and figure out what you want to figure out on this sort of sabbatical and then come back and share it with the rest of us. And where would traditional martial arts be now if we done that the last 20 years? It would be amazing.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah exactly I mean yeah there was never really a platform for it and I do think you know, now that thereâs say you know these promotions out there you know UFC, they have bellator, those sorts of things. It does give anybody an option to actually excel on a platform and earn a living but itâs a short-term living compared to other sports or other you know.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well letâs step out of this rabbit hole and jump into another one. Here we were, we told some stories. We heard about your origin story if you will and Iâm sure you have others so Iâd love for you to share with us your favorite martial arts story.
Shelley Devine:
My favorite. Thereâs a couple but one of it and this has been⌠Well when I started sidyotong, I was, there was a few other women there I was teaching and you have an occasional woman come in to class and it was another gateway class where it was like cardio kickboxing but we did put Muay Thai into it and there was this one girl that came in, woman, and she wanted to be a mixed martial arts fighter and but you know, to get there is a lot of process that you have to go through to get there but she, we were having a smoker at the gym and the smoker is an in-house unsanctioned opportunity to go hundred percent against your teammates. You know, you have to go through all the process of you know, having a fighter competing so you know, you might have to cut weight, yeah. You have to prepare, you have to train for it, you have a coach thatâs coaching you, all that so she had begged me, begged me, begged me, begged me and I had no intention of really doing that but somehow my name came up and she basically beg me to do it and I was like okay youâre twisting my arm but it turns out that it brought back when I can remember being in that in the ring and it brought back like this little girl in me that wanted to do what the boys were doing and so that was a real high for me and a weird really weird sort of way. And then shortly after that [00:29:26.27] had been here and I got chance to and heâs the instructor, heâs the son of the instructor over in Thailand for sidyutong, and heâs been the lead instructor there for a lot of years and he was back here at the time too so I got to be in the in the ring and he held focus mitts for me and that was just sublime. I was like wow this this particular man is holding focus mitts for me or thigh pads for me and Iâm getting to you know kick and punching and heâs guiding me through you know typical Muay Thai strikes and I just was in awe and I was blissful I just because he just had such knowledge and iâs like actually standing in the ring with him and then had an opportunity took over in Singapore while he was teaching a class that involved MMA, he was teaching and I got to open the class with some you know, some warm-up drills and he honored me they are in front of the whole male class and it just was, it was really hugely profound for me, really it meant so much to me to be treated as an equal and not looked at as you know, oh youâre a girl you canât do that or I just I didnât even have that feeling it was beyond all that and heâs really centered around I think on that was a huge, huge, huge time in my life I guess and it wasnât just the one it was the combination of all that and I didnât realize until now telling it that he was centered around that which is really was really kinda cool.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Iâm imagining you in front of that group of men and just having that honor. What was going through your head? Iâm imagining you are nervousâŚ
Shelley Devine:
I wasnât say just what I typically, you know itâs funny because I would do this warm up for the class back at it here in Boston and I used to do it all the time and I know it was appreciated but for some reason being there because it was, there was some guys that were professional fighters and there were students it was all mixed and was a fight team class and for me to lead it and the opening drills of it, it was just really and in another country even, you know it was I was just really, it was a bit surreal and I was just like just so blissed out and having fun, it was so fun and just really happy, just real, real happy I just felt like I was in my own spirit and uncompromised by anything yeah, it was really, it was a really great, great time.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Now, you said that you had a couple story? If you want we certainly have time until another one.
Shelley Devine:
Well, it was pretty much that, you know, having the fight, that was like a cool time. Iâm trying to think let me see, some right now I
Jeremy Lesniak:
Thereâs something behind that laugh. I know what that laugh means.
Shelley Devine:
Well this oneâs kind of funny. I think I was getting my brown belt over a small circle jujitsu and what how they do it, you know you go through all the tests you do you like they have a checklist of things that you going to do but at the end of it, they give you want to attack after another. And typically, itâs usually about maybe 10 attacks and you, you know people are lined up and they give you know, theyâll come at you with either a weapon or whatever they got you know. So, Iâm standing there and I know how many would be. How many attacks it would be but I knew this was the end of it and a whole lineup of guys and the first one out was pretty like you know Iâm 5â5 and half and heâs pretty tall guy pulling out close to 6 feet if not a little bit more, you know like a little taller. You know, big guy and Iâm thinking thereâs this whole lineup of guys and some of them have clubs and some of them have this and that you know? And Iâm like Iâm exhausted now as it is and because it is like a full day and I was like âooh, I am going to set the pace for this right now and make this easyâ because I had seen how they were attacking other students and they were going you know not a hundred percent but itâs like, you know theyâre going kinda hard and Iâm like I canât keep this up. So, I went low like the guy came at me I think he had a club or something, went I at me, I went in low grabbed him right by the family jewels, if you know what I mean and just held, and I looked around like a quick look but everybody knew this is what is going to come to him when I drop you guys fast and Iâm telling you what Iâm going for. Then everybody just like they came at me nice and easy after that. I went through, I mean it was still tough but I set the pace where if anybody was going to get wild with me or you know oh Iâm gonna like you know especially sometimes white belts get a little oh Iâm gonna have to go against somebody whoâs brown belt I gotta have to go hard against them. Everybody was like they all kind of like you know shifted their gis and held their junk in place and they came at me, kinda like a little you know, a little more with caution because they didnât know, I just set the total tone of the class and then later at the end of it when I was handed my belt or whatever the instructor said yeah we gave you like about you know 10 more attacks than we usually do because of that whole set up they just wanted to see what I could do and it was really funny. But I just remember looking around and then one of the guys was happen to be an MMA fighter and you know, I donât know if you ever notice that when you, you know when youâre in your element and you connect with like a spirit, the spirit of the soul of somebody and I could just see that little glint in his eye when I did I was like damn girl you just totally set the tone of whatâs gonna happen you owned this room. And coming from him, the way he looked at me I was like yep, thank you and you know, just that it was recognized it was kinda cool itâs really a cool experience.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Nice. Iâd like to talk about a time in your life when you know, maybe things were off, low, however you want to define it and how you were able to reflect on your martial arts or maybe it was a physical situation you used your martial arts to move past.
Shelley Devine:
Well Iâve a lot of loss in my life. I think martial arts has made me really a lot stronger in ways that I never wouldâve imagined. You know I think, as human beings we come up against you know betrayal, we come up against being hurt in different ways whether or not weâre betrayer or somebody else is, we were human and we do things that you know we donât feel good about and sometimes people do things to us that they donât feel that great about either and we donât feel that great about either. And Iâve had my share of that and I think who hasnât and coming out of it, I think you know you always kinda have to move forward in any part of martial art training that Iâve experienced what it was with jujitsu or traditional jujitsu or karate or the Muay Thai, youâre always moving forward. But you gotta make sure that you keep yourself intact and how I mean that is you have to be accountable for or responsible for whatever actions you take so if you hit someone, I guess Iâll use this is an analogy, if you hit somebody you have to kind own it. Like you know, if you punched them you own it, if they punched you back you know you evade it or take the hit youâre like okay, Iâm gonna move forwards, that hurt and Iâm gonna move forward. So, I think, in life when you know, crappy things happen like I mean, Iâve been through a divorce that was kind of crappy. My sister died around the same time that was kinda crappy. Itâs you feel the pain of loss but you know you have to get up and you have to kind of move forward because your people around you that youâre setting an example for. And I think martial arts has taught me to be a leader and you have to kind of yeah, I gotta get up and move. I got to keep going forward, journey hasnât ended yet, I still have time here, Iâm gonna make the best of it, Iâm gonna best possible version of myself and martial arts has help me give me the strength that inner fortitude to be able to do that because I know a side of myself that I didnât know before like from that day I hit the bag, I recognize something in me that wasnât being, that wasnât fully being expressed and martial arts help me express that.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Of all the people that youâve trained with and under youâve named a few names, if you had to pick one who was the most influential, the person who without their guidance or training or whatever it was, you would be a completely different person, a completely different martial artist. Who would that be?
Shelley Devine:
People that Iâve trained with already? I would be some somehow different if I can train them?
Jeremy Lesniak:
Yeah who would you know, if you were accepting an award you know, whoâs gonna to be that first person that you say, you know without so-and-so I wouldnât be here today. Or is there a person maybe there isnât?
Shelley Devine:
You know I donât think there really is. I think thatâs an interesting question and that the people that I attracted into my life and saying in martial arts that have been present there for me. Theyâre not the only ones that have guided me, or⌠Theyâve been a reflection I guess of something that was in me already and that might sound really egotistical but I donât mean it that way itâs just about self-discovery and these people might have held up piece of me somewhere and I had to go collect it. So, it would be a combination of many, many, many people that Iâve interacted with over my lifetime which is a bit profound and Iâm feeling like as Iâm saying this in describing itâs almost like oh wow I didnât know that about me until really this moment.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Cool. What Iâm hearing from you doesnât sound egotistical at all it sounds like another way of expressing when the student is ready, the master will appear which exists in our world so much that itâs become a clichĂŠ. Itâs something that we see in martial arts films dating back quite a ways and a lot of us have experienced it and youâre just looking at the situation from a slightly different perspective so, it doesnât come across that way to me. Now if we flip the question who would you want to train?
Shelley Devine:
Thatâs kind of a fun question because thereâs some really cool people out there that train in martial arts that are really neat. I used to think, which is kind of funny Anderson Silva just because of the way he moves and he interacts like when he would, when he would fight the ring or in the cage. I just thought his style and he was exploring so many different things, not necessarily train with him but I like to go see how he trains and like just be like him vicariously like watch him train. And I think Connor McGregor would be another one. He has recently been trained with Ido Portal and Iâm not sure if youâre familiar with him.
Jeremy Lesniak:
I am familiar with him. He is, he is a brilliant man and someone I look up to when it comes to movement.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah, I think you know seeing movement, you know he use movement and then Connor McGregor kinda going to that then itâs not just theyâre martial arts aspect of itâs just how they create their world and their life in and whatâs important to them and the people that are behind them I find that fascinating and into that there such purpose Wendy perfectionist isnât really the right term but they execute their craft well and theyâre really focused and I admire that. I find Ronda Rousey another one too I admire even though sheâs trained in different things but itâs how sheâs living her life and she is a true martial artist. Another one that I Miesha Tate. I wasnât always a fan of hers, I you know, I and now I look at her far differently now that sheâs kind of a little more removed from being a fighter and then how sheâs interacting with other fighters and training other practitioners coming up. I think she would be kind of really cool to train with a little bit but I think you know Jackie Chan might be kinda fun.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Who wouldnât want to train with Jackie Chan I mean, come on.
Shelley Devine:
I think it would be hilarious like, just or jet li or something like that. Just they are and you know if Bruce lee was still alive, heâs another one. Just sitting in the room with them you know and listening to them speak or watching them I think that would be really kinda cool thing to do.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Absolutely. Do you watch movies? You know you mentioned a couple martial arts actors there, is that is not a thing for you?
Shelley Devine:
Yeah. You know what I recently just watched and Iâm like oh my god this was so good was atomic blonde. I was like oh my word. Her moves in that were so you know, just amazing to me and I donât know who choreographed all the moves that she performed in that movie. I was just like wow just a cool movie I really liked it.
Jeremy Lesniak:
It was a fun movie I certainly enjoyed watching it and itâs one that hasnât come up too much on the show of course, Charlize Theron is the star for anyone that hasnât seen it but I was actually just working on pulling up to did that and of course the imdb mobile website is not the easiest to use.
Shelley Devine:
I just thought about that at the top of my head because I had just watched it and I and I like I could watch it again just for I mean, of course I love style clothing and everything in that she is [00:47:03.03] but I just thought it was really well choreographed and I usually you know, I like all the funny stuff, I like Jackie Chan all his and I canât think of any of the names of his movies but I always enjoy watching him like when he does that you know the drunken kind of masters and just how he is able to do all these you know stunts and then I always like jet li. I always like the way he moved in his movies and the philosophical kind of you know, him being a master and always know that good and evil kind of thing I was going for the good. There were some other really good ones what is it crouching tiger and then there was that one this kind of a funny one, canât think of the name of it.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Its ok. Thereâs a bunch of them.
Shelley Devine:
Yeah thereâs so many.
Jeremy Lesniak:
There are.
Shelley Devine:
Those arenât usually like if thereâs gonna be something on like martial arts movie, I have to see it. [00:48:13.08] a lot of good striking and you like a little twisted.
Jeremy Lesniak:
I think I think we all are I think you have to be as I certainly do not coined did not coined this phrase but I donât know where it doesnât came from, the idea that we get together, we choose to hit our friends. You know were kicking our friends in the head or punching them in the face, that takes a special kind of person. How about books?
Shelley Devine:
I actually just for this, Iâm actually getting I just ordered a couple books that have been written by some fighters and some judo practitioners that one is Ronda Rouseyâs my fight your fight and Kayla Harrison sheâs also
Jeremy Lesniak:
You like the judo women it seems?
Shelley Devine:
well you know what? They get some attention because maybe theyâre Olympic athletes and theyâreâ a little more known out there for that and they actually came from you know, they trained in this area with jimmy Pedro and you now and they have books you now and I think they are a pathway for other women to come up. I think thatâs probably why I am a little fascinated with them.
Jeremy Lesniak:
And of course, I reached out to both of them no one from Ronda Rouseyâs camp is written back but have had some emails exchanged with folks on Kaylaâs end so fingers crossed that that will happen at some point whenever on the show. What are your goals? Youâre still talking about martial arts in the present tense, so Iâm gonna imagine there are things youâre looking to accomplish.
Shelley Devine:
Well Iâd like to, Iâve been out of training for a few months just because I moved. I do need to get back to it but I am in the process of working on this podcast so Iâll be interviewing other women that are involved in martial arts and so thatâs kind of a goal and then creating some digital online products for you know that involved martial arts training I guess and then maybe helping MMA fighters to help them recover from injuries or keep them injury free, thatâs one of the things so Iâm kinda looking at those things. As far as training goes, I was training in an MMA class like learning to do take downs again and then I just bounced back into doing the Muay Thai kickboxing because I just love it, itâs just so much fun just you know going into a class and maybe light sparring any of that or learning a new technique of learning a new combination, just those things. Itâs very simple, I donât have just staying consistent in it, over the long haul over the long term. You know, for years and years and not, not doing it. You know, I think thatâs pretty much the goal is just staying really consistent in going and doing a class and keep learning. Cause you never know who the instructor is going to be to like you know, what are they gonna teach you that day its gonna come up, you know.
Jeremy Lesniak:
And of course, any of the women that have been on the show the I might be able to make an introduction to, if you want by all means happy to.
Shelley Devine:
Sure, that will be great thank you.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Youâre welcome. Hey, were all in this together you know and you know there are people out there that and you know some time I get an email you know youâre helping other martial arts podcast you know, one of my best friends in the martial arts is Jared Wilson who hosts martial thoughts which is probably the podcast most similar to this one out there and weâve become good friends because of that. You know and I look at it as a parallel to martial arts. Were all doing similar things, but weâre doing them in our own way, for our own reasons and why not lift everybody up? You know letâs make each other better.
Shelley Devine:
Absolutely thatâs a great, great way to be you know unifying people and, yeah there shouldnât be this fear of oh you know theyâre gonna you know tap into your business or whatever it is you know, because itâs like now you can have your you to develop your audience. People are gonna like you for you and theyâre gonna listen to you for you. For a very specific reasons because of your originality and donât realize that.
Jeremy Lesniak:
People are silly. Now if some of the non-silly people out there listening or even the silly ones, if they want to reach out to you and how can they find out about you and your podcast and the other stuff that youâve got going on you know, letâs call this commercial time and just let it rip.
Shelley Devine:
Okay so it would be for my podcasts itâs evolve WMMA. I do have a blog there too, Iâll be writing about you know some of the current fights that are coming up to with say the UFC or bellator and invicta fc and I also do an outdoor fitness boot camp if youâre in the Boston area. Yeah and thatâs evolve boot camp, so evolve is one of those names that just goes with everything that I do. Just look for that, youâll find me.
Jeremy Lesniak:
are you on social media?
Shelley Devine:
I am. I have a Facebook page for womenâs mix martial arts, itâs I love WMMA and yeah, I would probably be at an evolve boot camp.
Jeremy Lesniak:
Well of course weâre gonna link all that stuff over on the show notes whistlekickmartialartsradio.com so those of you that might be new to the show that didnât know about that or those of you driving you know, letâs not risk vehicular manslaughter as you try and jot down domain names. Alright, well thank you for being here and Iâd love for you to send this off with just some parting words, wisdom or what have you for the folks listening today.
Shelley Devine:
Oh well just if youâre on a martial arts journey are you having started one, you might want to get into the gym and try it out. Itâs a long road ahead but itâs a wonderful journey youâll make great friends great acquaintances, thereâs just a great group of folks that train in martial arts and I love it and I think you will too.
Jeremy Lesniak:
One of my favorite things about this show is that, we get such different people from different backgrounds, different experiences to talk about their journeys through the martial arts and if you like that makes me not only a better martial artist and host of the show, but a better person and that was how I felt even from the beginning of todayâs episode that Ms. Devine has a different perspective, not just as a woman, but as someone whoâs trained in different arts who started at a different time in life and really has embraced that and made martial arts her life and her lifestyle. You know, I respect that so thank you Ms. Divine for coming on the show. If you want the show notes those are at whistlekickmartialartsradio.com weâve got pictures and a bunch other great stuff, check that out if you want to follow us on social media we are @whistlekick Facebook, YouTube, twitter, Instagram bunch other places and if you want to get a hold of me directly, you can itâs [email protected]. Hopefully youâll head on over to whistlekick.com check of the stuff that were making and weâve got new stuff adding all the time. Seriously. If you saw the pile of samples, products in development on my desk right now itâs insane. Weâre growing so fast, so much fun, kinda scary though. Thatâs a whole other episode maybe we will talk about that sometime. Enough of the sidetracking those tangents, got enough of that, today didnât you? Until next time. Train hard, smile and have a great day.
Episode 292 â Ms. Shelley Devine Ms. Shelley Devine is a multi-disciplined martial arts practitioner and yoga teacher based in Massachusetts. She is also the host of the Evolve WMMA Podcast.

Armando Iannucci: I was saved from being a reject by comedy
The king of satire, back with a new film about Soviet-era Russia after Stalins death, talks about being uncool, Veep and building a spaceship in London
Armando Iannucci arrives for our 3pm meeting with a small amount of his lunch still clinging to his shirt. We discuss retouching the mark for the Observers pictures but, admirably, he doesnt seem to care either way. It is tempting to describe the 53-year-old Iannucci as the most feared political satirist of our age. Certainly, his output in the past decade the BBC sitcom The Thick of It, the companion film In the Loop, and latterly Veep has been untouchable in skewering the vanity, incompetence and plain childishness of people in power. But, in person, nothing about Iannucci is remotely scary: he is self-effacing, smiley, quick to laugh. At the end of the day, hes just a guy with a tomato stain on his shirt.
Iannuccis latest target is Stalin and his cronies. His new film, The Death of Stalin, is set in 1953 and depicts with unexpected historical accuracy the undignified scrabble for dominance that followed the demise of the Soviet despot. It is silly, moving and revelatory, all at once, with deft, pitch-perfect turns from Simon Russell Beale as Beria and Steve Buscemi as Khrushchev. Iannucci, who never likes to have fewer than seven plates spinning at any moment, has also just published a book on classical music, Hear Me Out, about a lifetime of listening to Mahler and Britten in open defiance of the keepers of the cool.
Was it easier than you expected to make a comedy about Stalin and his inner circle that was also factually accurate? Yeah. When we were researching it, we found out things like Vasily, Stalins son, really did lose the ice-hockey team in a plane crash. And because the comedy is the comedy of hysteria, you want to be true to what happened and how people responded. So anything that was so-bizarre-and-yet-true was a candidate for going in. I thought about having This is a true story, but then I thought, no, just watch it for what it is, and it would be great if you subsequently found out that the bulk of it was true.
These men are vicious, but your film also gives them a human side. They have families they fear for; they play practical jokes. Did your feelings towards them change? Um, no. But I did think, what must they have done to have survived and ended up so close to Stalin, and what has it done to them? The fact, for example, that he would almost taunt them and mock them and play them off against each other With all these things its about posing the question, What would you have done in those circumstances?
Power corrupts? Yeah, it was almost like Animal Farm by the end, and yet they all lived near each other and popped in and out of each others houses. He might have had your brother shot and all that, but they had to sublimate that as just part of the process of moving forward. But, you know, you read that Boris Johnson and Michael Gove were the biggest enemies and are now reconciled. Im not saying they are like Stalin, but in that febrile environment where you see each other every day, in order to survive, just psychologically, you must have to close off a bit of your emotion.
youtube
Watch a trailer for The Death of Stalin.
So there are lessons about todays political landscape? Trump gets all his closest associates in over the past three or four months, and has to say, By the way, youre fired because I need to survive now. So could you go away? And eventually hell be saying that to his daughter and his son-in-law: Youve now become an albatross, I cant be seen with you anymore. Or after the general election, Theresa May turns to her two very close advisers and says, Its you or me. And they all kind of understand that. Its like that thing in The Godfather: Its not personal, its strictly business.
Is it true there have been calls in Russia for the film to be banned? You say Russia its a person in a country of 200 million people. Just somebody somewhere said something.
Were you expecting a reaction? I was wondering what it would be. I was surprised to hear we sold it to a Russian distributor. Stalins been making a comeback. There have been busts of Lenin, Stalin and other key figures going up in Moscow for the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution. Its that sense of, dont be frightened of strong men. Thats the message in Moscow at the moment.
Theres a line in your book Hear Me Out where you describe film directing as an astonishing ego trip, and that you wouldnt recommend it to anyone who has the slightest psychotic tendencies. Is it a job you feel comfortable doing? Ha! It is, but you do spend all day ordering people around, and everyone will do what you say. My wife teases me when I finish a shoot that it takes about a week and a half before I stop going, Right, shall we have a cup of tea? You, get a cup of tea I can see how, especially if you do shoots that go on for months, you become like a medieval lord with all these serfs, just ordering them around and torturing them and asking them to tell jokes and fetch food.
As the creator and showrunner on HBOs Veep for the first four seasons was it a difficult decision to give it up in 2015? No. It might have been the British thing that we dont do that many episodes of TV shows in the UK. Plus, it was three months of the year going out to Baltimore, backwards and forwards, and it was an all-year-round thing of the writing, the shooting, the edit, the publicising and then the writing And I knew the show could carry on, but fundamentally Id taken it to where I wanted to take it.
The show will end next year with a final, seventh series. Do you know whats going to happen? No, no, no. They asked if I wanted to stay on, but I knew I was going to do Stalin and I just thought, I cant be on set and get a call saying, Can you look at this script? But its great, because I watch it as a viewer and you realise though I always knew this what an amazing cast it is and how funny they all are. And also, I genuinely dont know what they are going to say next, which is really great.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus as vice-president Selina Meyer in Veep. Photograph: HBO
It was recently announced that youre making a new show with HBO called Avenue 5. Whats the idea behind that? Ive always wanted to do sci-fi, so this will be set mostly in space, in about 40 years time. Its not going to be Blade Runner, but there will be an element of realism to it. Ive been out to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena and Virgin Galactic, looking at where it might be in about 40 years time. Ive mapped out the season and were writing the pilot episode and well shoot that sometime next year. And because its in space, its not location specific, so we can shoot it in a studio or a hanger in London. Well just build a spaceship here.
What impact do you think streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime are having on terrestrial TV? Well, the good thing is that content producers writers and producers have more places to go. And also, whats great, and HBO paved the way with this: quality stuff is profitable. Thats their business model: youll only subscribe to HBO if you think youre going to get good stuff thats different from whats on the networks. So they need it to be better and well thought out and high production values and all that.
But is the quality always better? I do worry that simply because theres so much money available from the big streaming companies, theyll say, Oh well make your movie. We know no one else wanted to, and we realise why, because it was slightly indulgent or whatever, but well make it. And you watch it and you think, it was fine but For all the criticism of the studio process, if youre making something that costs someone else money and which is going to be available commercially, you want people to go and see it. So it does force you to think: have you made it as well as you can? Or have you really thought this through?
In Hear Me Out you write about the tyranny of the keepers of cool. Was liking classical music a reaction against them? Well, I was never really into fashion or clothes. I just wasnt that bothered. I wanted to read a good book. I was saved from being written off as a complete reject by the fact I could do comedy.
You started to learn piano in your 40s. Was that difficult? I found it hard. It was learning a language: Oh, I can speak music! And suddenly these dots and whatever started to make sense. But it was hard work. Some people can do it instinctively and I couldnt. My son would lean over me, hed be practising the violin, and go, No, no, no, its like this. And he hasnt had a piano lesson.
Do you listen to any non-classical music? I kind of like Radiohead, the Beatles, Bowie, its not extensive, but Im always trying. Whats interesting now is, because everything is available, kids can listen to Sinatra when theyre 12 and theres no real sense of: Youve got to listen to this because its out now. But you cant listen to that because thats from 20 years ago. They are a lot more experimental in what they are listening to and that then feeds into the music thats being produced. Its influenced not just by music from two years ago, but music from 20 or 30 years ago.
How can classical music stay relevant? Its up to the classical music establishment, for want of a better word, to open it up. Concerts neednt be off-putting and expensive and you dont have to dress up and you dont have to understand the technical complexities. Just talk to the audience. One of the weird things about a concert is that nobody says anything to you, so youve got to just accept whats in front of you and work it out. Somebody should sit down and explain: This piece, when it was first composed, caused a riot. Now it might sound a bit more conventional because its been used in a Walt Disney movie. I dont know, I think its just useful.
Stalin had a great passion for classical music. So listening to it doesnt make you a better human being then? George Steiner writes about how Goebbels was into Mozart and played the piano beautifully. Wagner was an antisemitic bastard, so actually, no. Thats the sad thing: it doesnt make any difference. It really doesnt.
Can you put that aside when you listen to the music? I dont know. I always got taken by the grandiosity of Wagner, but the more I listen to it now the more I think, it does sound fascist, doesnt it? But its interesting, that thing of, Can you excuse? Like Polanski. That whole, Great film-maker, but should you be watching his movies? I dont know what the answer is.

Digimon frontier ocs?
Randomly started rewatching CactusCasual's great Digimon Frontier critique series. He's leaving youtube soon and making the weird decision to delete his whole account and everything he's ever done. But he's uploaded a bunch of his best stuff to google drive so if people wanna keep.it they can. Still i think its a lil dumb to not just leave the account open even if you're not using it? I dont know anything about why he's quitting the site though so maybe he has his reasons.
ANYWAY this got me thinking again about how Frontier is so goddamn boring and weirdly cliche and badly paced, and like everyone just focuses on "but they changed how digivolution works" and ignores all the actual reasons its bad. Like, kids have fused with digimon in previous seasons too! And haven't we all wished we could be the awesome characters like angemon and etc? A digimonny power rangers henshin thing isnt an inherantly bad idea, it was just executed badly. I dislike it cos it meant we completely lost any sort of digimon and human bonding experience plotline. They gave us two recurring digimon characters but they were just basically a pokedex and the world's least funny comic relief. Gimme a version of the show where the kids actually talk to their "spirit evolutions"! Like maybe they have a digimon partner but its forever stuck in baby form or spirit egg form and cant fight without fusing with a human host? Or just give us a better non-combat digimon pal like bokomon and neemon but like.. Fully developed with their own character arc and relationships with everyone else. Maybe ophanimon could have been around the whole time and been a mentor and parental figure? And we could actually explore her moral ambiguity, cos seriously the show makes her kind of a "ends justify the means" asshole and just NEVER AKNOWLEDGES IT. Wtf was up with that scene where she illusions Cherubimon with a fake dream of him being purified and getting to just go back home and be friends? And then she just backstabs him and we never mention it again. Like seriously even if she couldnt actually cure him that scene at least revealed that he WANTED to be cured and it made him so much more sympathetic! If he can be reasoned with, maybe they could have talked him down and then gone on an adventure together to find an actual cure for him? Also seriously what is up with his entire plot! Cos he just gets 'infected with darkness' cos he 'had darkness in his soul' but its just cos he thought the humanoid digimon were being racist against the beast digimon? And like.. The council was 2/3rds humanoid with him as the only beast representative and since he got infected by evilness they never remotely tried to recruit a new one or listen to what beast digimon have to say. So he was kinda right, yo! Also wtf with the reveal that actually no everything we just said is pointless because his REAL motivation was just blindly obeying ANOTHER humanoid digimon that comes out of nowhere to be the final boss. Also what is up with all the increased sexism in this series!! Its so weirdly worse than even adventure which had the excuse of being "a product of the times" yet still had way better variety of female characters and less bigoted stuff! And frontier came right after tamers which was one of the best series for gender equality and even used the medium of the setting as an opportunity to talk about the subject. Shame they censored that in the dub tho, Renamon talking about how digimon have no biological sex and how she only came to think of herself as a girl when she came to the human world. And rika's family accepting her and inviting her to family girls's night and stuff! Like as a metaphor for transgender issues it really worked to try and explain it to a younger audience in a natural way. And then one season later in frontier we have ONLY ONE GIRL IN THE CAST and wah wah whining about fashion and oh no she cant ever win a fight and her goddamn spirit form is in skimpy lingerie despite her being 12, and the show is always perving on her! And then she loses her powers halfway through the first season without winning a single fight, and has to be the damsel in distress to motivate the dudes in a stupid love triangle. And even when she does get to fight she's only allowed to fight the ONE SINGLE GIRL ON THE VILLAIN TEAM and they have stupid slap fights and "who's the most pretty" and BEACH EPISODE and GAHHHHH
...anyway as you can see i have a lot of reasons why i didnt really like the series. But what i meant to make this post about (BEFORE I GOT DISTRACTED) is that the fundemental concept itself isnt bad, they just wasted all its potential. And its a really good concept for ocs! Make your own digi superhero person and explore the fragmented world doing stuff offscreen during the series! Like they left so much open?? We know that other kids also got on other trains to the digiworld and they all just failed or gave up or got captured by the bad guys. And we know there's a bunch of spirits that the heroes never use because the villains got them again, so its cool to imagine an alt universe where the roles were swapped. What if different kids became the chosen heroes? What if different spirits were corrupted by the villains? What would a good guy Grumblemon be like? What would the kid be like who got that spirit? Would their evolution form be wildly different from grumblemon? Do the villain forms and purified forms look as different as Duskmon and Lowemon did?
SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!
So yeah i wasted so much space here blabbering, so i'll probably make a separate post about my oc ideas lol. But i'd love to see other people's ideas for ocs/reinterpretations/other ways to fix that wasted potential!
So! Digimon frontier oc ideas!
To start off, have an undeveloped idea of someone on the team having Angemon as their spirit evolution. Cos it would have made the transition to such a new series a lot easier if they had some sort of "hey this is for you" to the fans of the previous ones. And angemon is the Adventure digimon that already looks the most like a regular human in a weird mask.
SPEAKING OF WHICH! less regular humans in weird masks! Whats the point of "you turn into a digimon" if you dont turn into a digimon? Like i know the whole gimmick is "humanoid mode and beast mode" but even the beast modes often look like humans in a costume! And there's been so many humanoid digimon before who actually looked like HUMANOID MONSTERS rather than just normal dudes cosplaying! There's literally nothing "monster" about agunimon, he's just a guy in some knight armour. Like the most you can do is charitably assume maybe the horns are his own and not just attatched to the helmet. And its annoying cos the villains have way cooler evolutions! And also double annoying that they always bend the humanoid/beast rule in such transparently self serving ways. Tommy gets two beast forms cos he's meant to be the cute mascot-looking character. Zoey gets two human forms cos she's meant to be grossly sexualized all the time. When kouichi turns from bad to good he loses his interesting looking actually monsterous evolutions and just becomes another dude in an armour. A friggin palette swap of his brother!
Anyway anyway LOL IM RAMBLING AGAIN yo...
Ideas for ocs!
I was thinking of a main girl character who's basically just a "fuk u" to all the stereotypes they did with Zoey. Actually gets a monster lookin beast form and a warrior lookin human form and actually gets to goddamn fight! Maybe her name is Hilda or Hildegarde? And i'm imagining her as a chubby nerdy kid with glasses and curly hair and a super cute oversized sweater kind of fashion sense. And her main spirit form would be this super badass lady knight giant orc thing who can Protec All The Peoples! Maybe earth element or the irony of being light element but she's this big ol monster goblin with just a tiny pair of angel wings on the back, lol! And then her personality is normally super shy and socially anxious, but she actually finds the digimon world kind of freeing? She's a total badass in battle and acts like a big ol powerful protector of all her friends! And she's always super excited aboyt adventuring and gets carried away comparing stuff to her favourite books. And now we must learn everything about this new place!! TO THE DIGI LIBRARY!!! So she's able to be confident and bubbly when it comes to actual adventure stuff, but she's still shy about regular life and anything social. Maybe its her weakness? Like she's scared about going home because she thinks she'll be "just a nobody" again, and lose all the great friends she made here. And also maybe a backstory of her heroic side still existing even before she got magic powers, but in the most tragic way? She managed to fend off a burglar once all on her own, she just snapped and did everything possible to defend her family, even though this was a man three times her size! But instead of being seen as a hero it just made all the neighbours and kids at school spread rumours about her being dangerous. Oh she must be in *a gang* if she knew how to fight like that! Oh its so *dangerous* for a kid that age to have such anger inside! Maybe she's a *scary mentally ill person*! So the whole situation ruined her social status even more and made her retreat even more inside her shell. And this is why the circumstances of the digital world are such a wish fullfillment for her and she's so scared of just waking up and it all being a dream. I think the villains could manipulate her fears, and it could maybe lead to her Skullgreymon Moment?
And then another idea i had was for a trans boy? I just thought this would be a good framework to explore LGBT stuff. He'd maybe be the wind element? And his personality would be very "classic shonen hero" but without the "dumbass" part, instead he's the cynical planner type dude while Hilda is the "i didnt even think, i just wanted to save everyone" type. But he's still super peppy and tries to be the class clown all the time so people will like him, and loves to climb trees and stuff. I think maybe his fighting style would be all about trickery and random chance? If there was such a thing as an element of surprise then he'd have that one! And then his story is that he doesn't have anyone supporting him for who he truly is at home, and he's afraid that his new friends will call him a freak too if they find out. He took the opportunity and cut his hair short as soon as this adventure started, and just introduced himself to everyone as a boy. But he's scared that people will find out he "lied" even though he didnt, he's just been so beaten down with the idea that he's not allowed to be himself and he has to pretend to be everyone else's idea of an ideal cis man or else they'll reject him. So maybe he starts off a bit obsessed with cliche masculinity and has low confidence about himself? And this could reflect in his digivolutions actually changing! He starts off with a really over the top buff warrior dude form, even though his fighting style is entirely about speed and trickery. So he tends to get into trouble with this fake form getting in the way of his ability to fight. And then when everyone accepts him he gets all powered up and changes into a new form! A way less "cliche macho" dude who looks like a stage magician instead and actually synchronizes with his element to become super powerful! And he's all like "oh no i became less manly" but everyone is like "wtf dont let yourself believe you're any less of a man because of dumb stereotypes!" And Also Big Friendship Hugs.
And then maybe this provides a resolution to both him and Hilda's plots? Like when the story is over they still stay friends in the real world, and having a friend who supports them gives them enough power to withstand all the haters and stay confident in themselves. But itd be kind of a coincidence for all the digidestined to live in the same city lol! So maybe in real life they live at least a few towns away, and they become long distance pals who send letters/emails. Because I LOVE ALL MY LONG DISTANCE PALS!! Also itd make sense to have a Internet Good message in a digimon show, lol.
And then i dunno about the rest of the team yet but i thought itd be good to have a sort of moral divide? Like these are the two who have a shitty home life and dont want to leave the digital world. But then the other half of the group has big reasons to wanna go home. So the villains could play on this difference in goals and make them fight amoungst each other. Just generally make the villains more actually competant, yknow? Oh also if there's a Dark Agunimon on the villains he needs to be EVEN MORE of a boring human in a costume! Cos it sucks that all the villains have better character designs and the show seems to think theyre worse ones. Give me one case of more boring not meaning more heroic!

BUNNI WATCHES RANDOM OUT OF ORDER SINNOH EPISODES THAT WERE LEFT ON THIS HARD DRIVE I GUESS
Today is diamond and pearl season one episode 28 "Drifloon On The Wind!"
Huh this one had a cold open showing the climactic moment from the end of the episode before it actually happened. Thats the first time i recall the anime doing that? I thougjt initially it was a flashback and i missed the first of a two parter.
Such a cool neat weird premise! A traditional pokemon centre out in the countryside! That adds so much worldbuilding to the setting! They never state it in the english dub but it seems to be a joke on a japanese onsen? (An inn built around hot springs) the archetecture just seems to be very similar, and from what i've seen in anime the "my mum and my mum's mum and my mum's mum's mum worked here" thing is a common trope. The nurse joy family is probably a joke to exaggerate it? Also i loved the scene where Brock is like "wait what the fuck this identical nurse joy is actually old enough to have a daughter ash's age and also OH NO A WEDDING RIIIIIING" And then he thankfully, blissfully GAVE UP and we had one nurse joy centric episode without him being a fuckboi. Seriously, the older you get the less funny you find brock, it sucks that the stuff that's meant to be over the top jokes is now barely more exaggerated than how some dudes act in real life. All you real life brocks, nobody finds you as charming as a fictional goofball! You're just rude! AND REAL BROCKS DONT HAVE A CROAGUNK TO STOP THEM
Anyway i LOVE the cute cottagey aesthetic pokemon center/hotel place! It seems the family mostly treats wild pokemon in the forest and they were actually so surprised to see customers that they thought they were burglars at first! And then daww ash and co help out doing chores to pay them back for the meal and bed even though the family is like 'no dude thats the duty of a pokemon centre'. I think that was a really mature moment for ash? He realized that this pokemon center gets less business than usual ones and figured he should give them a hand. And its so nice to see him being so super excited and wowed by the chores?? Like i mean its CHORES but for him its all so new cos its learning how to work in a pokemon center. Ash's best characrer trait is how his enthusiasm really has no limits, he'll go 100% be the best choremon master ever! Or maybe he was intentionalky being all THIS IS SO FUN because the joy daughters were fighting and he wanted to help cheer them up? In a lot of ways i prefer season 1's bratty egotistical sarcasm ash just cos he had more of a visible personality and you didnt have to sorta sleuth it out like this and always be left wondering whether they really meant to write nice-Ash this way or you're just imagining it. But when nice-Ash has monents like this he's way better and i just wish it hapoened more often and was 100% confirmed, yknow? Most of the time in sinnoh he feels less like nice-ash and more like nothing-ash or changes-every-day-into-whatever-the-plot-requires-him-to-be-ash. But in sun and moon season they have all those more slice of lifey and emltional plots and he's the more nicer ash that i always wanted, and i love it!
Anyway lol im going wildly off topic. Also fun fact i spell "the" wrong so much that "tge" is the first result in my autocorrect now...
Another thing i like is that these Joys seem to be a ghost type specialist family? The kids have a big pile of drifloon cuties and when the gang first arrived they saw a bunch of happy gastlys enjoying their stay at the inn. I like to think maybe all the ghosts they have are "drifty" types like that? I feel that the writers ppicked gastly cos the pokedex entry saying they blow away on the wind like drifloon. Cos this is actually the valley windworks adaptation episode! That was such a nice surprise when it turned out momma joy's husband was the windmill electrician guy!! He looks SO cute in the anime too! He's really chubby and has such a nice round face with a button nose and big anime eyes and a cute turquoise jacket electrician uniforn thing. And he's funny and goofy with his kids and very caribg and cautious about letting them ride home alone in the bad weather, and also he's a GIANT BADASS with an ampharos that thunderpunches the shit out of team rocket and defeats them before ash can even get there lol! Actually they never show what momma joy's main pokemon is? I like to think maybe its a gengar cos thats the most chansey-ish ghost type. And also itd mean the chubby guy has a tall and thin pokemon and his tall and thin wife has a chubby pokemon. Theyre such a cute couple so itd be even cuter!
Oh and i forgot to mention that everyone travels around via drifloon??? Thats so surreal when you consider their pokedex entries saying them carrying children is a bad thing that means theyre kidnapoing them. Like, they domesticated a very dangerous pokemon and now it uses its dangerousness for the powers of good instead! Maybe its just the anime censoring a scary thing or maybe it was intentional to show how badass this momma joy is that she could tame so many spoopy ghosts that everyone thinks are pure evil? Seriously i LOVE how they show this family working to protect and heal the local wild pokemon and them all being super friendly to humans because of it. And it makes sense theyd be ghost tyoe trainers cos if youre befriending all the pokemon in a forest youre bound to find a few lost souls. Mountains and forests are like the deadliest areas for travellers so mountain forests especially so! Everyone's lucky they have this badass family team watching over the area like guardian spirits~
OH SPEAKING OF WHICH
I forgot to mention that the main conflict of the episode is that the joy sisters have a fight because the older sister is a bit overprotective and dismissive of her little sister, causing her to be reckless and get lost trying to "be grown up and help mommy". And in the end the big sister rescues her with the help of the guardian spirit of the hot springs and they reconcile their differences and have big cute hugs! Its all very well written and dramatic actually.i really felt for the older sister's determination to save her, and i felt it was a good case of a conflict where both of them were wrong and both made mistakes and it was just like they coulda avoided those mistakes if they talked it out better. And both of them had a point at the same time, yknow? So it didnt end with either of them losing the argument or anything, it was more like the lesson is just to appreciate your siblings while theyre there and also talk about your problems in clear language with younger kids instead of using excuses like "you just cant, cos im older and i said so".
Oh also SUICUNE!
The super onsen spirit is suicune?? The little sister just casually mentions her biggest best friend in the forest is suicune and is surprised when ash says its a legendary! Wow thats actually a really cool idea? You wouldnt necessarily think of it cos you kinda think of hot springs for the hot part but theyre also a sort of super clean water like how suicune is meant to be able to purify polluted lakes. Maybe it came here to make its nest cos places that are already purified are comforting to someone who wanders the earth blasting stinky water with its powers every day. I like to think maybe this is the same suicune from Generations where they said the legendary beasts are roaming legendaries because humans treated them as demons when they first walked out of the ashes, and now theyre still scared of us even centuries later. Itd be sad if they literally kept running forever, so i like to think they all have a comforting spot to sleep in, somewhere. And for suicune its this little isolated lake in the sinnoh region which used to be super far away from human civilization. But then this family's ancestors built this hospital here and suicune was initially like "oh no my house is ruined" but then it saw that these humans were helping protect tge forest pokemon too. So its like "ah fellow coworkers" and theyre the only humans it trusts. And whenever theyre in trouble it sneakily helps them and dashes away before it can be seen, but one day it got unlucky and the kids saw it and now OH NO it is stuck havibg CUTE TINY FRIENDS! I bet the littlest joy just treats suicune like a big puppy, and this great noble beast of legend plays along because it loves her so much. But if anyone else sees it demeaning itself with a game of fetch, it would be Total Social Death In The Legendaries Club
Anyway there's some cute moments of Emotionally Wise Kind Ash The Best Of All Ashes where he finds the lost little-joy and he tries to cheer her up when she's scared by the storm and keep her dry from the rain. And he has absolute faith that his friends will come to save them both! The only thing i think coukd have maybe made it better is if the big sister joy didnt beleive in suicune? Cos it just ends with her going to ask suicune for help and then suicune helps. There's a lack of tension cos you know suicune could easily resolve all this and you already know suicune is real cos the lil sis says that big sis told her to keep it a secret cos its a Big Deal and Bad People Could Take Suicune Away and stuff. Like it might have worked better if the big sis thought that little sis was just making up rumours to be all boastful, or playing with an imaginary friend. Then her going to ask suicune for help would have symbolized something, yknow? And the audience might have been tense about whether it was real or not.
But even without that added suggestion it was still a great episode! Lots of cuteness, emotionalness, familyness and a few great jokes along the way! Also i just loved them giving unique character designs and a full backstory to these minor npcs from the game. Whenever i play it now i'm totally gonna headcanon this all as true! I mean all we know about the daughter character in the game is that she says "papa youre stinky but i still love you" and that feels very in character for the slightly mischievious little sis joy that we meet in this episode. Though you only see the one daughter and she acts like she hasnt caught a drifloon yet and dreams of seeing it if you can fix the windmill problems so it'll come back. So maybe the game version takes place a little before the anime? Like, that daughter is the engineer dad's daughter from a previous relationship and the older daughter is joy's daughter from a previous relationship. And i dunno maybe lil daughter's hair colour actually is the generic npc brown from the games but she begged her momma to dye it so she could match. Like she just loves her new momma and sister so much!! And now the struggling mountain poke-center is doing better because both parents work difderent jobs now and have enough money combined to be able to keep the family in a better quality of life. And maybe the team galactic incident at the valley windworks got it a bit of publicity as a tourist destination? and after the daughter caught that drifloon everyone who visited was like GOSH ITS SO CUTIE and the dad was like "yes our special windmill attracts these pokemon that are normally only found high up on the mountains, speaking of which my wife runs an inn up there and you can go on pokemon wildlife tours to see them in their natural habitat!" And just I LOVE THESE GUYS AND I WANT THEM TO HAVE ALL THE SUCCESS IN THEIR LIFE!! There is NOTHING better than "hey we're adapting this gane what should we do?" "Add MORE FAMBLY" Like oh my god whoever had that wonderful idea should be promoted!
Thus ends bunni's disjointed review of FAMBLY EPISODE
