i never understood ppl claiming percy has never suffered the consequences of his loyalty. you're talking about percy "i know the prophecy said my friend would betray me but these are my friends they wouldn't betray me" jackson, who walked into a remote part of the forest with luke and almost died in book one. you're talking about percy "kronos told me point-blank there was a traitor but i can't imagine any of these ppl betraying me" jackson, who decided to stop looking for the traitor and moved on. you're talking about percy "nico is acting suspicious and very clearly hiding something from me but he's my friend and i trust him" jackson, who walked into nico's very obvious set up and almost got himself held hostage during the titan war. percy is so loyal that he cannot fathom betrayal until it's happening, and it has nearly killed him multiple times.

as far as character arcs can be delineated in a style like the silm's -- and additionally because thingol just has more of a character arc than most -- i think denethor's death and the subsequent massacre to avenge him is a huge narrative beat in thingol's arc, and it's a shame it gets so little attention in fandom. also hmmmm the laegrim's answering battle with the dwarves of nogrod to avenge thingol after his death, much in the same way he once did denethor, comes off to me as something of closing the circle: taking vengeance for their kinsman as he did for them so long ago. it feels very fitting that thingol, who felt so strongly for his kin that he avenged them with fury and violence, has his own death avenged with fury and violence by the same kin

andreil aus are weird to me sometimes bc 'slightly ooc' andrew is just a little nicer or generally brighter/more alive bc he's less traumatised and then neil is like manic pixie dream girl type of chaotic where he sets stuff on fire for fun. and i just think. fair but actual neil is a completely different flavour. he's not a troublemaker he's a 'trouble-finds-me-and-it's-not-my-fault' disaster. he's a mouthy shit but as retaliation. he's not gonna prank people for fun but he will tell someone twice his size they're stupid for attempting a prank and start a fight inadvertently. man has too much will to live and it's only hindered by a lack of brain-to-mouth filter. it's not a choice
