X-Men: The End - Review

Book 1: Dreamers and Demons

In one of Chris Claremont's many ill-advised returns to the X-books, he set about writing a hypothetical and non-canon end to the series. Set about 15 years in the future, the story travels to every corner of the X universe - if briefly - so if nothing else everyone gets an answer for where their favourite character ends.

Greg Land did the cover. I hate Greg Land.

I praise it mostly on a conceptual level. Pretty much every long running corner of the MU received a 'The End' mini, but Claremont split it up into 3 separate miniseries. Captain America and Iron Man both got 5 issues, KISS (yes, the band) got 3, the X-Men got 18. As someone who always wanted characters to die, grow and retire but was often foiled or undone by fiat - I respect that he'd want to do it properly. However, more is not always better. It's fun, cringe, and nonsensical at times. A LOT of people die unceremoniously. Don't take it too seriously.

The first few pages sets up that that 15 years have seriously passed. People are dead and retired, some have kids that look exactly like them, the never aging kids grew up. The Shi'Ar are killing X-Men, like a lot of them, except they're doing it in disguise. Jean Grey has returned as the Phoenix and is hanging out with (kidnapped him while he was doing Letterman lol) Nightcrawler, Carol Danvers' hologram, and Aliyah - the child of Bishop and Deathbird.

Here she is going for an expository jog down memory lane.

We spend a little time getting to know her, as she's the closest thing to a viewpoint character. She's inexperienced and way out of her depth, but her heroic instincts are sharp. Interestingly she 'doesn't really care about the Shi'Ar.' Aliyah lives on the Starjammer with a pretty impressive holodeck, she's never met her dad, her mum is holding the Shi'Ar empire together and her best mate is holo Danvers. Lilandra is apparently 'mad.'

Immediately Kree slavers approach Chandilar and Claremont begins clearing the board. Madrox and Siryn die for real, Nocturne is a hound and Aliyah manages to knock her out and take her to the ship. Phoenix comes out of nowhere and begins wrecking shit and the Kree do the same.

Also, WarSkrulls.

If it sounds like confusing nonsense, that's because it is. The first third of the miniseries is about establishing Aliyah and checking in on various X-Men before killing most of them. Seriously, it's easier for me to list who lives rather than who dies. It's confusing but I think it works as front loading the deaths so books 2 and 3 have a more manageable cast of characters. If you plan to stick the landing, it's going to be easier to trim the decades of bloat/worldbuilding the X-books have received.

We get a brief overview of Earth stuff before they start to die, though everyone in these panels lives (mostly hehe). Kitty Pryde is running for president with Rachel as her campaign manager! Storm and Logan live together and he's her full time caretaker. Emma and Scott have two kids. Cable hunts terrorists apparently.

Here's the Summerses. A lot of people wear speed dealer sunnies in the future, with Cyclops even saying SPEED right there. Coincidence? Also their children are boring.

You'll note the daughter may as well be a clone of Emma (she isn't but you know what I mean.) The baby is called Alex after long dead Havok, definitely tempting fate there. I'd sooner call my child Omega Red, but I'm not a parent. Chuck pokes his big bald head in and Emma tells him to beat it. Scott checks in with folks all over the globe, many of whom die. He is concerned of course.

Told you. Rogue and Gambit live and they definitely saw The Matrix. This isn't plot relevant - this is just how they roll apparently.

Hank and Cecilia McCoy live and they do *something* in Africa. Doctor stuff I think? This book moves so damn quickly. They live but everyone around them dies. Hank is right about the mutant problem. The named X-Men body count is at 18 by book 3.

Hey Yukio! Come to homoerotically kill Ororo, huh? DW, she wins despite full paralysis. Don't fuck with Storm. At this point we find out ALL these assassins are WarSkrulls sent by the Shi'Ar. Storm's powers have wrecked her body btw to the point Logan feeds her and she kinda wants to die. 😭

Madeline Pryor, Stryfe, and some weirdo I don't know come for the X-Mansion. Dust dusts Maddie Pryor. That dude getting punched by Not!Stryfe is the son of Colossus and Polaris. Yeah he looks exactly like Colossus. Nice to get confirmation of Polaris' awful taste in men. She does have a dope butch short hair look that slaps, so it's not all bad choices and emotionally stunted communists.

Nearly everyone else not pictured is dead as a doornail, ash and bone at best. Claremont was pretty damn thorough - 90% of the X-Men and their allies dead. Apocalypse bit the dust too, in a pretty embarrassing way. Of course Sinister lives because he's working with the Shi'Ar but has his own agenda, as usual. They're starting to realise that the Shi'Ar sent the WarSkrulls, but the preemptive strikes were super effective. Book 1 ends on the Starjammer with the passengers realising Cassandra Nova has been Lilandra all this time.

I'm sorry, CHUCKY sends me. No cap. I could write an essay on this panel and invite speculation.

The last page has the Xavier Institute's singularity power core exploding after that lot end up also being WarSkrulls sent by the Shi'Ar - looks like having the school be built mostly from Shi'Ar tech backfired. The school is definitely gone - along with at least the state of New York but I suspect much more - then a smash cut to this masterpiece. Callisto with fucking tentacles for arms saying 'Chucky?' as Chuck is overwhelmed by grief. I'm assuming they're in a polycule with Mags over here, but it must gall him to be the third most dramatic person in a scene. It's just too much to respond without some kind of levity, but if it wasn't clear by now - the stage is being cleared ruthlessly. Northstar was at the school, so maybe some people survived but Claremont is not half arsing it. This is definitely a whole arse situation, maybe even more.

DUN DUN DUN 🫠

Wait what? Chuck's evil twin, the Mummudrai? Hectic! So we know we've just seen Cassandra Nova send many WarSkrull strike teams after X-Men in the form of people that will hurt them psychologically and it was very successful. Hmm... it's 15 years in the future - does that mean she's been leading Bird Gang this whole time? No Xandra in this timeline but the X-Men interact with the Shi'Ar a lot. That's some wild patience for Cassandra Nova, and the notion that she's been preparing all this time is terrifying. My God, all the X-Men are going to die aren't they? Maybe, though I can't stop thinking about how Lilandra Nova would have handled a booty call from Chucky. Ughh gross.

I think it's worth saying that the high amount of action is a YMMV sitch - I personally can do without no punching at all in a book, and get frustrated when a mandated and arbitrary fight happens just because that's what cape comics do. Just because action has to be special to wow me doesn't mean I don't recognise its value, mainly I believe we can demand more from our comics - as an evolved art form instead of the pulp it began as. What I said earlier about front loading the death applies to the action too. I suspect your enjoyment of this book will come down to your feelings on action or ability to appreciate it ironically/unseriously.

I'll leave part one there, though I want to point out that Sunspot is whitewashed so badly he looks like Shawn Mullins. At least he dies - I love Bobby Da Costa but I'd prefer no Sunspot to dorky white guy Sunspot. Stay tuned for part 2 and thank fuck that's over. Spinning a coherent narrative from a book without one is a challenge, especially with only 10 pictures to work with. I considered counting and listing all the deaths, but I got to 30 and realised I wasn't enjoying it and doubted anyone else would. I'm not a wiki, and hopefully I've done my job while leaving some meat on the bones for folks who still want to read it. Don't worry, Kitty's presidential run is still live and it's implied she won the primaries. Independent? As if. Definitely a democrat, because the X-Men are mostly centrist bitches. Still, I hope she wins and First Lady Rachel and her achieve something.

Danny Phantom is a semi episodic animated series from the early 2000's. This means that there isn't much continuity in between and there are ideas that don't get explored more than one episode. Technus as antagonist. 7) "The Fenton Menace": Danny and Jazz episode. Younblood as antagonist. 8-9) "The Ultimate Enemy": Another crucial key special episode from the show. Introduction to Dark Danny/Dan Phantom (fanon name) as antagonist and the idea of Danny turning evil in the future. Important for Danny's arc. Introduction to Clockwork, Master of Time and his superiors, the Observants. Important exploration of Vlad's character. Danny learns about Jazz knowing about his ghost half and their dynamic changes from here. 10) "The Fright Before Christmas": Christmas episode- Introduces the Ghost Writer and Christmas Truce between ghosts. 11) "Secret Weapons": Vlad's villain episode, acts as follow up for both ¨Reign Storm¨ and ¨The Ultimate Enemy¨. OK so I’ve had versions of this question so many times that I’m starting to get really fascinated by it because I think it speaks to how much fandom has changed in the last 20 years.

I mean, in general, it still astonishes me as someone who first entered fandom in 2004/5 that creators now are so open and willing to engage with their fans. Neil Gaiman is out there hammering away on his keyboard 24/7 to give Good Omens fans answers about whether Crowley likes pancakes or not and I think that’s wonderful. (He must be so tired). There’s so much more connection between creator and fan and usually that’s a great thing (until it’s a very bad thing, please see the Star Wars fandom).

I come from a time (again, this is less than 20 years ago!) when you simply did not include creators in fandom. Partly there was a lot more anxiety than there is now about the legality of fan created works, but partly we knew that in general we would not like the answers we got back. This was the era of your options being absolute frozen silence or furious denial in response to questions about whether two characters of the same gender might be together romantically, and it really burned the community as a whole.

So, you know, if you felt moved to write an 80,000 word fic about two characters who had never exchanged more than 3 words in canon falling in love you would simply go and do that, and everyone else would just nod approvingly. There was no representation of the kind we wanted on screen or on the page, but there was in fandom, and they were totally separate spaces.

But obviously now we’re in the wonderful era of there being actual queer books and TV shows and movies that people are fans of, and creators and actors want to be part of those fandoms because everyone is suddenly seeing the characters in essentially the same way. Which is so nice and so refreshing, but I do think it’s created this feeling among fans that ideally the creator should give the OK to a fanon relationship.

I absolutely love hearing your fan interpretations - you often think about characters in a way I haven’t, and that can be really interesting. Sometimes, as it tends to do, fanon and canon get pretty far apart, and I also think that’s absolutely fine.

But I do definitely want to say that you don’t need to ask me whether you can ship, or whether it’s right to ship, two characters. If your heart moves you, go for it. Go wild! Fill your boots! I made them up, but you make them live.

If you’re asking whether a particular ship will get together or stay together in the series, I usually can’t say (because of spoilers!) - unless I definitely know it won’t happen, and then I don’t want to tell you that because it’ll just disappoint you.

So what do I think of Kitty x Lavinia? I think that it’s great, I think that you’re great, I think that you should go write a 80,000 word epic about them. I won’t read it, because that’s legally and personally a little weird, but you should absolutely go for it if you want to.

Four reasons That 90s Show's Jackie & Kelso reunion had to happen? More like, maybe three.

Ashton and Mila are together irl.

You know who (Hyde's actor) is a piece of subhuman scum.

Jackie and Fez are the worst. Jackie and Kelso is the lesser of two evils, but it's still an evil!

Their reasons:

Kelso's original T7S ending never worked, according to them. The author states that Kelso's a goofy character, and the show turning him into a "self-serious family man" was deeply out of character. But he grew by meeting Brooke and fathering Betsy; he wasn't a self-serious family man, but a goofy family man. He grew as a character, and Jackie and Kelso don't help each other grow, and hold each other back. Straight up.

Jackie/Fez's romance felt forced. I agree with this one, mostly, except they mention that Jackie and Eric would be worse than Jackie and Fez. And nope, Jackie and Eric have more potential than Jackie and Fez or Jackie and Kelso ever could.

Jackie's relationship with Hyde was always doomed. The author states that they didn't like each other, and weren't built to last. Other than maybe very early on, them not liking each other was totally a facade. They bonded deeply, over their shared trauma, and learned a lot from each other. Jackie learned to think for herself and push boundaries, and Hyde learned how to express his emotions and find his way in the world. And that true love isn't all that bad, after all. :) The author also states that "their plot went nowhere slowly." No, their relationship was built up to be endgame for three whole seasons (by Hyde proposing to Jackie), until season 8 threw it all out the window.

Jackie and Kelso's relationship in T9S honors T7S. Um, no it doesn't. The author says that "Kelso grounded Jackie," but he grounded her in the worst possible ways. He grounded her and trapped her in on-off mediocrity and mindless superficiality, so she can't fly. And if it honors T7S in any way, T9S merely honors the first half of the show (with a few things from the later seasons, such as JF's relationship and a warped view of Eric's Star Wars obsession, for a half-assed baseline of consistency). T9S clearly retconned Jackie and Hyde's relationship, Brooke and Betsy (and replaced Betsy with a sixteen year old Jay), and removed Hyde as a character of any importance. He skipped town at the end of an incredibly different season 5, never to be seen or mentioned again, as far as T9S is concerned.

PS:

And somewhat ironically, Donna being self-destructive and running to California and Kelso coming with her was the best thing that could've happened on the show. Because if Kelso didn't run away, Jackie and Kelso would've probably gotten married very young, Kelso wouldn't have met Brooke (and knocked up Jackie instead), Hyde would be a drifter of sorts, and the gang ultimately goes their separate ways (to the point where their kids don't know each other). Aka, other than Hyde running off with Chrissy in season 1, T9S is the worst possible scenario.

The author also mentions that T9S is a world where Hyde never existed. I somewhat disagree; in T9S, he only fell off the face of the Earth in the last third of the show. Since the gang and Red and Kitty still know Leo, even though T9S isn't willing to recognize how Leo came into the fold, Hyde existed in the earlier seasons of the show. They just lost contact with him (ugh, it's still so OOC), and they don't bring him up to the kids (aka, the scenes where Hyde was blatantly cut out).

Okay! I don't know where to start but THANKS FOR THE ASK ♡♡♡ I understand this is very rambly and I do not expect anyone to read this shit‼️

Um okay this is nothing information but im noting it anyway thats shes number 4 out of 5 children (3 older brothers and a younger sister) and was born in Texas. She moved away from home in her mid 20s. She always lived in a trailer park so she continued to just moving about every year or so, mostly less than that tho.

This is how she meets dude! They just happen to be in the same trailer park at the same time and, as an animal lover, Pumpkin pets Champ when she walks passed him. She strikes up a conversation with dude....so kn and so forth ig :)

Now I do wanna note that I put her with P1 and P3 and, like i do with alot of my OCs, have slightly different versions of her for each sinareo. For P1, she's more manipulative and co-dependent because if im doing OC X cannon I'm going all out. Part of dude doing what he did was encourage by a shared delusion between the two of them. Pumpkin would also be controlling and angry if dude tried to leave, she's a bad person to him.

When with P3, she's more mellow and independent, she still likes the Dude (loves him really) but she knows they both like to wander and wouldn't be as upset with a separation. This doesn't its all ouppie and kitties, because she will just shy of torture this man in the bed room. I'd say he's into it, but she wouldn't care if he wasn't. There's still a controlling part of her that wants to own her partner.

Small note also, I get P3s whole cannon is complicated, but as far as he states, he had a wife and the events of P2 happened to him. All this to say I think him and Pumpkin had an affair, Dude didn't think she knew about his wife but of course she did. They're always yelling at each other and she would have found out anyway lol.

Anyway, she's encouraged to move out of town before you know. The nuclear bomb. But she loses her trailer. They go to Catharsis. Then another town and another. They just travel for a few years. She's a cleaner, she picks up odd jobs and Dude does what Dude does. Very boring and nothing story lol.

With the interpersonal, Dude does love her and has a loyalty to Pumpkin like he had to his wife. (And also part of that is because Pumpkin treats him kinda bad in some areas, not TERRIBLE! but she's a little mean) that's love to him. He really hates it tho, it sits funny with him and he's kinda awkward around her at times but slowly, slowly he submits and he's all hers >:)

And I said this b4 but her name is not Pumpkin! Ifs a nickname from the Dude, like a pet name. I do have "real" names in him for both of them, but that's for me >:) lolol

Chapter Ten References

For a short chapter, there’s a lot of things mentioned in passing here that I think are worth bringing up in further detail, so here we go!

The fun I had researching rations! Also, can I point out that some sources consistently write “k-ration” whereas others say “k ration”? Don Malarkey’s book used without the hyphen so I followed his lead. 

The US Military had multiple types of rations. K rations had 3 separately boxed meal units (one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Combined, one day equaled about 3,000 calories. This may sound like a “high” calorie intake but a few things to note: certain items were considered virtually inedible (the fatty pork loaf was a consistent miss from my research, and the lemon powder was too acidic to consume) and subsequently thrown away. As a result, the calories consumed would often be less than the intended sum and even at 3,000 calories a day, men who subsisted solely on k rations would still lose weight and condition. It was especially prevalent in areas with extreme weather (extreme hot or extreme cold). As a result, k rations were only meant to be used for a few days. That’s not how it played out in many circumstances though, as men would be stuck eating k rations for a week or more. You can read more about them on the wiki page, it’s a bit introductory but you can get an idea for the components.

(Other rations like the c ration or 5 in 1 ration seemed a little more palatable than the k ration but the k ration was the most compact, so. Lucky paratroopers.) 

If you’re particularly curious, there’s a gentleman on youtube who ate a few items out of a k ration. Disregarding the age component, you can get an idea of the packaging and actually see what some components of this particular meal looked like.

Dick Winters’ memoirs note that while the men were sleeping (so June 6th into June 7th) he had trouble doing so himself and went out to scout. He encountered a contingent of German soldiers, which he heard coming due to their hobnailed boots. The American boots (mentioned by brand name in this chapter, corcorans) by comparison, did not have nails affixing the sole to the shoe so were silent on the cobblestones. Dick mentioned that he could smell the distinct German tobacco as they passed. He didn’t engage and no one saw him, and he returned to Easy without issue.

His memoirs actually mention a specific memory of seeing Harry Welsh walking among the men, checking on them, that night. I wrote that into this chapter. Harry and his absolute devotion to Kitty warms my heart and I enjoy him a great deal.

Random date mention in this chapter: 1939. If you ask someone “when did WWII start?” the answer is really going to vary depending on where you are. Many Americans might say 1941 with Pearl Harbor (though the European answer of 1939, with the combined German and Russian invasion of Poland, is also pretty commonly accepted). If you are asking this question in Asia, you may get 1937 which is when Japan began its invasion of China (July, ‘37). Again - WW2 was a global war and while in the West we often focus on the European theatre (or American involvement in the Pacific), the war in the Pacific as Japan moved to establish itself as the region’s imperial power (kicking out European powers from their colonies in the area as Europe was focused on dealing with the German threat in Europe, as Japan wanted the raw materials from those territories) is complex, significant, and still impacts regional politics to this day.

However, for context of this story in particular: 1939 obviously, is the “before/after” for Europe. Germany invaded Poland in September. The following year would be a busy one for Germany: in April of 1940, Germany would invade Denmark and Norway, and the following month would be their invasion of the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France. The Battle of the Atlantic however, began with the initiation of hostilities in September of 1939. This is when you begin to see the German u-boat threat make itself known, though it would skyrocket exponentially in 1940 and 1941. One of the first ships sunk at the outbreak of war in 1939 was a passenger ship, the SS Athenia. Among the casualties were some US and Canadian civilians, the media of both nations covered the incident. The Germans covered up their involvement in the sinking (some even asserted it was a UK propaganda effort) but despite the Germans modifying official documents to conceal their responsibility, a majority of Americans did believe the Germans had done it, irrespective of what other conversations were happening. (The truth was revealed post-war at the Nuremberg trials).

While not mentioned by name in this story, the sinking of the Athenia (and subsequent Battle of the Atlantic) is a significant component in the plot’s backstory for reasons that will be revealed in an undetermined number of chapters.

AhAAAA recently I have been snoozing my alarm so much that I can get ready and out the door in 10-15 minutes? But IDEALLY I get up at 5:45 and out the door around 6:30. Recently? .......up at 6:25, leaving at 6:40 lmao.

But my morning routine on a work day is to do my skincare and brush my teeth, put on my makeup and decide whether my curls are able to be tamed or if I need to put them in a scrunchie, feed my cats (who have been meowing and weaving in and out of my legs for every step of the process so far), take my meds and eat my yogurt and possibly something else, and then hopefully: leave for work on time lol.

Honestly it's usually work lol. I am very often thinking about work. I've been thinking a lot recently about how like,,,my job doesn't need to be my life, but it's something so integral to who I am right now that it's hard to separate what I do from anything else. I can't decide whether it's good or bad-—to feel like my identity is so tied to that. It's something I love and something I'm good at. But i also have to have a life outside of it, and I have to feel okay about myself on the days I don't do my job particularly well. Anyway—that's a long way of answering the question. But, HPL did express his respect for cats thruout his works.

This particular book contains all of Lovecraft's writings about such brave & "superior" felines.

The book includes excerpts from Howard's letters on Old Man (an incredibly ancient street cat that HPL met), his friends's pets, the felines of "Kappa Alpha Tau" (near his home), a cat poem by 1 of his friends, etc...

The book's illustrated by Jason C. Eckhardt, whose drawings have graced Lovecraftian publications for many decades.

Highly collectible but, buy the book to read it...

Lovecraft's missives, in total, are actually more lengthy than all of his literary output!

So, critics are far more interested in HPL's massive mailings (usually over 10 pages long - for each writer to him!!) than his famous tales!

It helps that Howard wrote informal, witty, frank & smart-alecky letters about his life & writing habits.

Lovecraft's range of subjects ran thru various interests in politics, history, science, literature, architecture, travel, food, criticism, writing advice, etc...

Once, it was thought that HPL's messages ran over 100,000 separate items.

But now, we know that only some 65,000 of Howard's letters survived the eons...

Many folk destroyed their collections of Lovecraft's missives for a variety of reasons.

Sad.

Yet, new discoveries are being made every day...

But, we might never find all of HPL's messages - unless I could borrow someone's time machine!!

I would have discussed the real ‘last purchase’ I made, which is either a Venti Starbucks Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai (i’m extremely addicted to these…), or some shirts I bought from Urban Outfitters for my birthday, however, I connected with a topic that was said in class. In class we discussed shoes, and the possibility of someone being so connected to a pair of shoes they never threw them out. That was me, and I genuinely wore a pair of Vans for 7 years straight. I bought these shoes in the 7th grade, and lucky for me that’s when my feet stopped growing. They were a flat shoe, black with a white band, and were SO trendy on tumblr within the aesthetic I was going for; picture vic fuentes emo fans with their vans, cause thats all I wanted to be. I bought them with my own money after years of wearing Walmart knock offs, and I loved them. I wore them while finishing elementary school, all throughout highschool, and even into my year off of school where I just worked.  Originally, purchasing these shoes meant that I would be slightly trendy and cooler than I was. It also ‘symbolised’ fitting in, and showing I had the money to be able to afford something that wasn’t a knock off, even though I bought them on sale for less than $50 dollars. At the time, I was mainly focused on looking cooler, but all the points above still stand. I personally wanted to fit into a certain style and aesthetic and bought the shoes to match it; the shoes themselves are supposed to be skater shoes, but were adopted by emo kids as their favourite bands wore them. I absolutely loved those shoes, and I actually still have them. I wore them everyday and it became a kind of joke with my friends and family that I would never throw them away. After 7 years, the shoes became faded, turning a shade of brown from being sun bleached. I wore holes in the soles of the shoes, and yet continued to wear them. The band became a dull cream, and was beginning to separate from the black fabric. The symbol of self expression turned into a hoarder style problem I have; I keep literally everything and will use it until it’s broken, which makes me incredibly sad. They also became a symbol of being broke to literally everyone but me. I had more than enough money to buy a new pair of shoes, but I didn’t want to. I loved the shoes even though they were getting old. Eventually, my mom forced me to buy a new pair. The shoes were causing back pain and were genuinely eating holes in my socks. We were going on a trip to Italy and she said she wouldn’t bring me if I brought the shoes. I decided to not get another pair of vans, but instead, get a pair of Converse. The same genre of shoe in my brain, but something slightly different. It took a lot of arguing to get me to buy the shoes (AND FOR NO REASON, LIKE 7 YEARS IS GROSS…), but I eventually caved and bought the shoes I’m currently wearing. These shoes have lasted quite well, besides the laces needing to be replaced after a summer of working in a bar. Now I have hello kitty laces ;-) I still miss my old shoes and the life I had with them. They took me many places and were with me throughout my teenage years. But now I have new jokes with my converse; like how long it takes to lace them up, and how I’m always the last to leave because of it. I also have new experiences with them, like my trip to italy, and the first dates I had with my boyfriend. I hope I can keep my converse for the same amount of time, and maybe I just buy a new pair of shoes for every new phase of my life.

I’ve come to a realization about the fine line that separates superheroes and magical girls, that being that most magical girls share these traits:

The way they come into their powers is typically out of their control

They are a “chosen one,” unique among their peers

They aren’t the ones who initially decide to fight evil, rather the ones bestowing their powers onto them tell them they need to fight evil

They are typically quite young, none exceeding the age of 20

They have animal/mascot companions

They have a transformation sequence into their more magical form, typically activated by a catchphrase

From these observations, I have concluded

Danielle Phantom wasn’t very human, and it wasn’t just because of the whole halfa thing. When she was being made, Vlad paid a lot more attention to her ghost half, so some details in her human half were… less than normal. But she didn’t really pay it much mind, after all with all her traveling, who would be around her long enough to know her eyes glow neon green in the dark, or that her blood has a heavy green tint? And honestly, who would ever know that her heartbeat regularly stopped and restarted on a daily basis? It’s not like anyone could hear it.

Anyway, the next place she plans to travel to is this neat place called “Metropolis”

So you know how every high school/ college develops a “shrine” at some point in time? Something that started as a joke, that people just kept adding to? I believe that the first shrine of an amity park college dorm would be dedicated to the Box Ghost.

It starts as a joke, obviously. Someone leaving a sign in the recycling room that says “Boxes for the Box Ghost” and stacking a bunch of cardboard boxes under it. It’s funny, and it’s not hurting anyone, so people leave their unbroken boxes under the sign.

Then the boxes start disappearing before the rest of the recycling.

Then the boxes start disappearing almost immediately after their placed.

People start thinking “oh, some jokester must be taking the boxes,” but then a group places a box at the empty shrine and, after lingering for a few minutes, they see a pair of gloved hands reach out from under the floor and take the box.

Donations to the shrine skyrocket.

Eventually, the Box Ghost shrine is covered in drawings of boxes, and all cardboard boxes in the dormitory go straight to the shrine.

Then Phantom shows up.

The people are concerned, is he going to destroy the shrine? Have all of these donations made the Box Ghost stronger, more evil somehow? Phantom approaches the shrine, and

He

Leaves

A

Box.

The people rejoice.

The few Human/Real Dain AUs are wonderful but they all either end with him dead or just chilling in Del. And while this is fine, I think we need more ones that end in him in some kind of relationship with Jaslief. It can a poly or a QPR with one of them, or a poly QPR, but it needs to happen.

The Chain are paltonic soulmates. Either explicated expressed or just them acting like they are. what that last one means is ones that focus on the fact that these guys can understand each other in a way no one else can, because they've been through things no else can, both pre meeting up and during.

So the LU boys are soulmates in the realist most platonic way possible. As such there should be an AU where they have red strings of fate. (Probs a diff color bc platonic but the point stands) This means they should have all many strings that are all tangled up whent hey first meet. It can also focus on angst where they just see a bunch of their soul strings fading into nothing after a few inches, rather than normal foot or two. But none of that is why I thought about it.

No I thought about it because I think about the boys plucking at their strings like instruments once they all met. So one of them gets sent into town for food (less conspicuous that way) and the whole time Wild, Wind and Hyrule have gathered together and are play 'Hot cross buns' on their soul strings to remind the poor guy to buy them sticky buns

earth-2182 AU

(the home dimension of x-men character nocturne (talia wagner) daughter of kurt wagner and wanda maximoff) but with particular emphasis on the nightcrawler x scarlet witch ship.

what’s actual canon in the marvel earth-2182 that i’m hanging onto:

kurt wagner & wanda maximoff are married and so besotted in love that their (adult!) daughter says ‘they’re like teenagers’. nightcrawler is an x-man, but the scarlet witch is a member of the avengers.

ok so AU time really just an expansion on that b/c there’s little to nothing else we know abt TJs parents in her universe... wanda meets kurt on a joint-team mission just after joining the avengers… she's 23 and he's 25 (so he's been an x-man for 5 years while she’s still v new to hero-ing) their teams get split up mid-crisis and they end up stranded together and it’s like omg crisis! actually we’re a really good team. actually you’re kinda hot??? etc, etc. i remember i read some random comic panels of them meeting and wanda impressing kurt b/c she speaks a bit of german and they’re really on the same wavelength and idk these little panels too give the hint that they’d just hit it off straight away y’know

afterwards kurt finds any reason to send her gifts or call her or show up at avengers tower - very flamboyant and dramatic. but anyway wanda is in a better place than in avengers movie etc. (and pietro is alive. the maximoff siblings are romani jewish and both alive.) anyway so wanda is doing okay and learning to be a hero, and then when that gets stressful there’s a guy who’s doing the absolute most just to see her smile. its all very charming and they get together. also it’s the 1980s.

they date for about three years before they get engaged and then married very soon after. why wait! they’re in love (ages 27 and 29). scott summers officiates and cries about it, kitty pryde is kurt’s maid of honour, pietro maximoff is wanda’s best man. it’s the party of the year and the biggest x-men/avengers mixer ever lol.

kurt is your classic I LOVE MY WIFE guy, as we know he always chugs his respecting women juice. he’ll admit he’s a little terrified sometimes of the sheer power wanda has, but they’re so dedicated to each other its like katara getting aang out of the avatar state.

they continue to be on separate teams with separate bases as in earth-2182 canon but they do have their own place to spend time at together, luckily for wanda having a husband that can travel anywhere in the blink of an eye is extremely convenient.

kurt loses his eye 3 years later (ages 30 and 32) in a scuffle that i’m writing a fic abt the aftermath b/c i love angst and hurt/comfort lol and it shakes them up enough that they both decide to take time off from hero business.

during this time TJ is conceived!!! she is born (wanda 31, kurt 33) and wanda moves to xavier's so that they can get help with raising her and allowing her to grow up around other mutants, it’s the 1990s, kurt isn’t an active x-man but he is the school’s drama teacher. wanda really gets stuck into motherhood and realises it’s everything she’s ever wanted, literally Best Mother, sings the most beautiful lullabies, gets really into sewing and sews tons of matching outfits for herself and TJ.

later wanda rejoins the avengers and after about a decade kurt takes over leadership of the x-men and things continue from there. TJ trains to be an x-man and also sings in a riot grrl band. she’s a big time music lover b/c she inherited her father’s flair for the dramatic. she’s got main character curse a lil bit tho lol so during a x-mission she gets universally displaced (as in comics canon somwewhere idk i’m not fixated enough on it)

so TJ disappears in about 2015 at age 20, making wanda 51 and kurt 53.

and then there’s my whole mental disney movie about TJ trying to return home lol, probably it DOES put a bit of a strain on kurt & wanda’s unshakeable marriage because it’s understandably traumatic for your child to go missing no matter what age they are, and ofc TJ is having her interdimensional situation but i’m not imagining it playing out like in the comics too much because in my mind it’s all culminating in [this] because we love a happy ending. she deserves to make it home.

(TBH the most AU thing about this whole thing is just that kurt wagner NEEDS to be sexy and canon old man nightcrawler in in canon earth-2182 is like... not sexy, sorry. but the eyepatch is a vibe!!! so much of a vibe i’ve noticed it in the latest x-men gold(?) run, we love pirate vibes kurt)
