Long one shot for Jealous!Toto Wolff with wife reader. With how many celebrities and famous people at the Las Vegas GP, it's no wonder how many times she has been hit. Toto and their son, Jack saved her. Fluff/suggestive. Anything, I don't mind. Thanks!! :)
With prompts : Are you jealous?” “No, I’m not!” “Oh, you really are jealous! Wait, why would you be jealous?”, "I trust you, I just don't trust them." & “Jealousy doesn’t suit you. I like to see you smile more.”
Pairing: Toto Wolff x Reader
i loved writing this fic!! i have a serieus one coming out soon with a rather similar plot just more angst it is toto based!!
Jealous!Toto Wolff - One-Shot
The bright lights of the Las Vegas Grand Prix shimmered like a thousand stars on the Strip, illuminating the desert night sky as the paddock buzzed with excitement. The air was filled with the sound of revving engines, the chatter of celebrities, and the occasional laughter of fans mingling with drivers and team members. But for you, the night had started to feel overwhelming, your patience tested by more than one unwelcome encounter.
You had come to the race with your husband, Toto Wolff, and your young son, Jack. The plan had been simple: enjoy the thrill of the race, soak in the electric atmosphere, and have a good time with the family. But as you wandered the paddock, admiring the sleek cars and waving to some of the familiar faces in the crowd, the attention you were receiving started to feel less flattering and more intrusive.
It wasn’t uncommon for people to approach you—many of them were fans of Toto, or simply curious about the wife of the Mercedes team principal—but tonight, with the who’s who of the celebrity world filling the stands and the paddock, it seemed like everyone wanted a piece of you.
It started innocuously enough. A few polite conversations, quick photo ops with fans, the usual pleasantries. But soon, it became clear that a few of these “fans” weren’t as well-meaning as they appeared. A touch on the arm here, a lingering gaze there—nothing outright inappropriate, but enough to make you feel uncomfortable. And when you tried to escape back to the hospitality area, a certain well-known actor had greeted you with a lingering kiss on the cheek that, while nothing more than friendly in appearance, sent an uncomfortable chill down your spine.
It was at that exact moment that Toto appeared. His sharp eyes, usually so focused on the race, were now locked onto the scene before him with an intensity that made your stomach flutter—though not in a good way. He was standing by the entrance of the hospitality suite, his gaze fixed on the interaction, his posture stiff and controlled.
“Are you alright?” he asked, his voice calm but with an edge you had never heard before.
You nodded, attempting to brush it off. “It’s fine, Toto. Just… a lot going on tonight, you know?”
His eyes narrowed, and he took a few steps forward, the crowd seemingly parting for him as if they could sense the subtle shift in his demeanor. He turned to the actor, his expression cold and polite. “Excuse me,” Toto said, his voice flat and even. “I’m afraid my wife is not interested in further conversation.”
The actor blinked, startled by the sudden intervention, and gave a half-hearted smile before backing off, muttering something under his breath.
As the actor walked away, you felt the warmth of Toto’s hand on your lower back, a gesture meant to reassure but also to stake a claim. You glanced up at him, catching the faintest flicker of something in his eyes—something between possessiveness and concern.
“Toto, you didn’t have to do that,” you said, trying to lighten the mood. “I was fine.”
His expression didn’t soften. “Are you sure? Because it didn’t look like you were fine.”
“I’m fine,” you reassured him, offering a small smile.
He didn’t return the smile. Instead, he took a deep breath and spoke slowly, as if carefully choosing his words. “I trust you. I just don’t trust them.”
You blinked, caught off guard by the admission. “Wait, why would you be jealous? It was just a kiss on the cheek.”
Toto’s lips pressed together in a tight line. “Jealous? Me?” He raised an eyebrow, as though the idea was ridiculous, but the tension in his voice betrayed him. “No, I’m not jealous.” He ran a hand through his hair. “Okay, maybe a little. But only because I don’t like how they treat you.”
Before you could respond, Jack appeared, holding a toy car in his hands and grinning from ear to ear. His innocence broke the tension in the air, and Toto’s stern expression softened. He crouched down, scooping Jack up and planting a kiss on his cheek.
“Are you having fun?” Toto asked, his tone much lighter now.
“Yeah, yeah! It’s so cool here, Daddy!” Jack exclaimed, looking between you and his father. “But I think Mummy’s getting bored.”
You chuckled, even as you shot a playful glare at Toto. “I’m not bored, Jack.”
But Toto wasn’t letting it go. “I think you need a break,” he said, glancing at you with an unreadable expression. “You’ve been dealing with a lot tonight. How about we get some privacy? Just the three of us. We can go back to the hotel, away from all this madness.”
His suggestion caught you off guard, but it was exactly what you needed. A moment to breathe, to relax, to remember why you were here in the first place: for each other. And maybe, just maybe, Toto needed a little time away from the chaos too.
Later that evening, after the race had ended and the crowds had dispersed, Toto had whisked you and Jack away to a luxurious suite in one of the quieter corners of the Strip. The moment you stepped inside, the world felt miles away. The chaos of the paddock, the glittering distractions of celebrity and competition—none of that mattered now. It was just the three of you.
You sank onto the plush sofa, feeling the weight of the day lifting off your shoulders. Jack immediately jumped into your lap, grinning as he showed off the race car he had “won” from one of the games in the paddock.
Toto, still standing by the door, watched the two of you with a soft, almost tender smile, his earlier frustration completely dissipated. “Jealousy doesn’t suit you, you know,” you teased, leaning back into the cushions and catching his eye. “I like to see you smile more.”
Toto’s smile grew, but there was still a playful edge to it. “I’m smiling now,” he said, walking toward you. “And I don’t want to see anyone make you feel uncomfortable again. You’re mine, and I protect what’s mine.”
You laughed softly, reaching for his hand as he sat beside you. “Toto, we’ve been together for years. You know I’m not going anywhere.”
He squeezed your hand, the unspoken words between you both speaking volumes. “I know. But I still don’t like the idea of anyone else thinking they can have you.”
You leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. “Well, they can think whatever they want. But the only person who gets to be close to me, in every way, is you.”
Toto’s smile turned into a grin, and he wrapped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you close. “Good,” he whispered, resting his chin on top of your head. “That’s the way I like it.”
There was a long, comfortable silence between you, the kind that only true intimacy can bring. Toto leaned in, placing a soft kiss on your lips, the kind of kiss that spoke more of reassurance and love than anything else. When he pulled back, his eyes softened, and you could see the shift in him—the guard he’d been holding up for so long had finally come down.
“You know,” he murmured, his fingers brushing your cheek as he traced a gentle line along your jaw, “you’ve always been the one to make me smile the most. But tonight… tonight you’ve made me feel like the luckiest man in the world.”
A blush crept up your neck, and you ducked your head, feeling a flutter in your chest. “Stop, Toto,” you whispered with a shy smile, but your heart was racing, his words making you feel cherished in ways you hadn’t expected after a long, chaotic day.
He grinned and kissed the top of your head. “I’m serious. You’re everything to me. And I just want you to know… no matter what happens, you’re the only one I care about.”
You looked up at him, your heart swelling. “And I’m the only one who’ll ever have you,” you said softly, your hands moving to his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart beneath your fingers.
Toto’s grin softened, and for a moment, he just looked at you—no words, just that quiet understanding that had always been the foundation of your relationship. His lips hovered over yours again, but this time, instead of kissing you immediately, he lingered, savoring the closeness.
“Let’s not think about the world outside for a while,” he whispered. “Just us. Here. Together.”
You nodded, a sense of peace settling over you as his lips finally met yours, slow and deliberate. The kiss deepened, and in that moment, everything else faded away—the buzzing, the noise, the world outside your hotel suite. There was just him, and you, and the soft, perfect rhythm of the love you shared.
As you pulled back, Toto’s fingers gently traced the line of your collarbone. “We need more moments like this,” he murmured, his voice low and intimate.
“Then let’s make them,” you replied, smiling up at him, knowing that no matter how chaotic life could get, moments like this—just the two of you—were the ones that would always matter most.
In the quiet of the hotel room, the two of you drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other’s arms.

Please Johnny come back to me.
4 months, 14 days, and 36 minutes… thats how long it had been since Johnny was KIA.
That much time had passed and yet his heart still ached, the feeling of feelings hitting harder each time he tried to suppress them. Simon wasn't a therapy guy, he was the kind of guy to suppress everything until it came to much to bare, have a mental break down for a day, and then continue the same pattern over and over again. That was until Johnny at least… Because with Johnny it felt like he had some comfort, someone he could keep from the path he had been on… He kept Johnny off the path of darkness only for Johnny to end up on the path of death himself.
Makes sense to be fair… that the Ghost would lead his Johnny to death, what a person he was… He was the cause of this, death follows him around like a looming cloud and it takes those he cares about. It hurt him so bad, it made him ache, it made every part of his heart, soul, and mind ache with such pain.
Ghost grumbled opening his eyes, he looked at Gaz who sat across him right next to the captain. They were being send out on a mission, it was a mission involving some damn gas, the same gas that Makarov had been working on… Fucking Makarov, at least that prick was dead and gone…
Price grumbled fixing his weapon a bit, Ghost gaze went towards his captain, his captain who he was able to save at least… but just that once…
"You with us Ghost?" Price grumbled looking at the Lieutenant.
Ghost simply nodded.
"alright, we have to be quick.. in and get a hold of the gas, its in the southern part of the warehouse, Simon you will head straight there, Gaz and I will take the east and west wing and together will take the north after shipping the gas out." Price reminded Ghost of the mission and its details. That was good. Very good.
~~
They had landed a bit of a distance away from the warehouse what ever it took to get this damn mission done… Ghost slowly approched hte building, knifing anyone in his way. He wouldn't use his gun until he got the go ahead form Price.
5 dead, more to come…
Ghost with cold eyes watched as another man got to close to the shadows, he was quickly delt with a quick throat slash and he was gone. Left to gurgle on his blood and die in the mud. Simon crushed his radio in front of him watching the fear and light leave his eyes. Every time he did this now he only imagined Makarov's face, that brought back satisfaction to him.
He moved forward going into the building, making sure as to be as silent and stone cold as the reaper that stole Johnny from him. The dim green lights of the building gave it an old chill, like something was wrong here, something deeper then what Simon could tell.
With his feet on the move, with his whole body on the move he made it to the room where the gas was being held and created. A lab.. with tubes large enough to hold a person of his size as well.. "Found the gas, waiting for orders" Ghost grumbled into his coms as he went through the room. He found the papers on how the gas is made, as well as… human experimentation.. tch… of fucking course.
Ghost read through the report, skimming it a bit.
Gender: Male Height: 187.9 cm tall (6'2) Nationality: Scottish
Ghost heart froze for a moment, thinking of Johnny as he skimmed over the nationality of this person…
His heart ached thinking about Johnny, his Johnny… His sergeant… With a deep heavy heart he took the papers as well, they would be useful for later in research and evidence.
He put the files next to the gas before walking around the room, moving some things around before he found a strange rug… He grumbled moving it to the side, bring it away to reveal a door hatch.
"found a door hatch" Ghost grumbled over the coms, their was no response from the others… something was fucking wrong, deadly wrong…
The silence over coms made this whole mission worse. At least until Gaz's voice grumbled over the coms, "copy, be there soon"
Price gave a quick gruff, "search the room."
ok… so they were okay and fine, not dead… that's good, he doesn't need nor want anymore dead teammates after all. Ghost opened the door hatch moving his night vision goggles on turning them on as he headed down the stairs. This could be more storage for gas, meaning they could have underestimated how much these fuckers have.
Once he reached the bottom of the flight of stairs he continued through the room, shifting through the stuff around it was only wooden crates of the gas no doubt. He frowned, before noticing the door. He frowned scowling in anger and rage. How many rooms of gas did they need? What were they planning, what were they doing?!
Ghost went to the door trying the handle.
Locked… Of fucking course it was.
"Found a locked room, breaching now" Ghost grumbled before kicking the damn door down. He had to move, get through this room before returning back up their to guard what they had come for.
He looked through the room, raising his weapon. It was dark without his night vision goggles thus him having to do a overtake of a humanoid figure…
Wait… No… it couldn't be…
Slowly the person turned around the slights dimly flickering on in a dark green color..
"Johnny?" Ghost croaked out before he attacked, the man he loved was alive but fighting him.
No… No… NO!
Ghost dropped his gun instead taking Johnny's wrist when another punch was thrown and took him down to the floor. He had the other pinned down underneath him as he stared into the others eyes… His brown hazel eyes that were like dark voids peering into Johnny's eyes… they were the peaceful ocean blue he knew and loved, they were this strange green glowing version.. What the hell… what the absolute hell.
Johnny was under him glaring with those alien green eyes, this mask on his face was a black metalic color with clear holes showing the same green color running through it.
"Who the hell is Johnny?" He growled.
Johnny didn't remember his own name, he didn't remember him… he forgot them… damn it.. damn it.. it hurts so bad.. it hurt… knowing that, hearing that…
Simon knew it was for the best the Johnny forgot about him and how he failed him, but he was selfish.. Selfish like his father in the way he didn't want Johnny to forget him. Selfish in the way that Simon wanted Johnny to remember him, remember all of them, and everything that they had been through. Both good and the bad…
Simon's heart raced through his chest, aching in pain but love in seeing his Johnny alive once more…
"You are Johnny… You…" His voice was shacky as with one hand he held both of Johnny's the other removing that blasted mask that exhaled that damn blasted gaz. "You are Johnny, John 'soap' MacTavish, sergeant to the 141… the most crazy lad I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with… Johnny…" Simon mumbled looking at the other, he felt tears building up, the same damn tears he had been holding back since he held the others bleeding body…
their were so many questions running through his mind as to how he was standing here infront of them, well infront of him.. and not really standing but pinned down but thats the main idea.
The voices over his coms came through but he couldn't hear them. He could hear his captain or gaz asking for a report on what was going on…
"Johnny.. Johnny please come back to us… to me…" Simon all but begged. Simon was nothing but a past memory without Johnny…
A Ghost was nothing without a person to follow…

Hero, Villain God 17
(Prev) (Next) (First)
*Scar's pov*
Poultryman leaves quickly but you can't help but keep feeling suspicious. Nothing concrete and his explanation does make sense but you can't help but feel that It was weird for him to just be there like that...
He said he heard of it but ... How did he do so quickly? And why was he just standing there...menacingly?
You don't get the time to think about it further and quickly forget about it as Cub messages you, the hero association wants to talk to you for some reason and that means something is wrong...
...You are a bit worried.
...
You uh... don't really know what to do, your fight and flight is going off in a way only a council of business people can make it go off.
The council is staring at you, you thought they wanted to tell you something not look at you with... judgement in their eyes for like ten minutes straight.
You try to break the tension by initiating the conversation yourself.
"H-hello?"
...
"You wanted to speak with me?"
They are still silent? Did you say something wrong? You literally just said hi-
"Indeed, a decision has been talen that we believe you should be informed of."
Ok, not silent anymore, that's good... Wait decision? They aren't demoting you or something, right?
"Did something happen?"
They look to eachother...ok...even more worrying. It's fine everything is fine, you are totally calm and chill and not anxious at all.
"No, but something will."
"O-ok?"
Points for being ominous for no reason.
"Hotguy, you cannot continue to work alone. The stakes are growing, it is becoming too dangerous.."
"Oh!"
Oh! Are they making a hero team? You always wanted one of those-
"We are not going to waste heroes on a team"
And just like that your hopes are dashed and crushed. Why are you still here...just to suffer?
"But then-"
"Hotguy, how would you feel about a sidekick?"
A... Sidekick? You don't know how to feel, superheroes are supposed to have them though so It must be a good idea!...Wait.
"W-who's going to be my sidekick? You said you weren't going to waste heroes."
"That has not yet bern decided, we plan to start an hiring process of sorts soon.""
Hiring? What's this? An office job?"
"Do not question us, Hotguy. It is thanks to us you are even here to begin with"
"Right! I am sorry."
"... This is where you come in"
"Huh?"
"A sidekick should not only be capable but should also work well with the hero, you'll have to be the final judge of character "
"Oh that makes sense... So I'll interview the candidates?"
"Not directly, we cannot risk that, you'll just have to prepare some questions for them to answer"
"Oh... Alright! I'll do it"
*Mumbo's pov*
You are in your apartment, Grian is off... somewhere. You have stopped questioning him around the time you walked on him peeling grapes ... You just hope he doesn't randomly die or something, that would be quite unfortunate.
You turn on the tv, not something you do often but it's a good way to pass the time when you aren't working on something which is thinking about it...very rarely. Surely today has been uneventful.
The mayor was kidnapping by his own office and Hotguy is randomly hiring a sidekick.
What in the world has happened today??
*Grian's pov*
So Hotguy is searching for a sidekick, what interesting timing.
Well, you cannot waste this opportunity to have fun, can you.
You prepare an outfit, you even have a perfect name for this.
Cuteguy.
...
You might have too many personas now... nah.
End of Chapter 4

I took a shot at writing!
Thank you to @rokhal for letting me mess with your dream sharing idea its absolutely DELIGHTFUL
And thank you to @moosemonstrous for beta reading for me. Its so fucking cool to have an author I admire so much giving me advice <33!!
Basically, RE! Robbie having Jill’s nightmare from RE3 remake, and all the consequences that follow
A loud crash of thunder woke Robbie up. He blinked a few times and unstuck his face from the desk he had apparently fallen asleep on. Again. His mouth felt unbearably dry in the way that tended to happen after a good hard sleep. At least he had a glass of water ready to help him wake up.
He sipped it and let the sound of rain pattering surround him. It was usually so quiet this far out in the woods. It almost made it hard to sleep. There was no ambient sound of the freeway, no trains passing or people talking when they walked by. No neighbors banging on the door drunk at 3 AM pleading for their exes to take them back. Pros and cons to everything, he supposed.
He grabbed the book on local wildlife he had been attempting to read before drifting off and headed to his room. His back never really hurt after falling asleep in odd positions anymore. That kinda made sense. If he could come back from a fractured arm after a few minutes, a pulled muscle or two shouldn't be anything to write home about.
He still didn't really know how to feel about… all that. At least the only thing he seemed to do was heal fast. The black mold leaking out of his eyes and writhing around the day he found out about his infection seemed to be a one time deal, thank god. Gabe hadn't been so lucky, but he seemed to be coping with his new plant powers fairly well. Were they plants? Technically speaking, the flowers were made of mold and he was pretty sure mold was something different. Would it be suspicious for him to ask the BSAA lady for a book on fungi? He still had so many questions.
They hadn’t really talked much about each other's powers - god. Powers. What the fuck was his life - after the initial ‘bike-meets-garden’ incident. He had questions for sure, he just wasn’t sure how to go about asking them. Really, what was he supposed to say? ‘Hey Gabe, I’m trying really hard to be chill about your mold minion deal, but I gotta ask; Why do you glow?’ Would Gabe even know the answer? Robbie really just hoped it didn't hurt.
Maybe the BSAA were keeping him and Gabe to see if they could find a better cure. That seemed almost too good to be true. He shuddered at the memory of their last attempt. on the Baker Estate. Bodies shriveling up and breaking into pieces like statues made of crusted over baking soda, screaming all the while before falling mercifully silent.
He reached the end of a hallway that felt way too long and opened the door as quietly as he could so he wouldn't wake Gabe. The fact that their rooms were on two different floors really didn't make a difference. He set his stuff down on the side table next to his bed before flopping down onto the mattress. God he was tired. The day felt grimy on his skin, even though he couldn't remember what he had been doing when the sun was out, and a shower seemed wasteful at this point. A little face wash and then he could go back to bed and wake up without horribly crusty eyes in the morning.
He forced himself up and walked over to the bathroom. His private bathroom, jeez, what a luxury. Turned on the water and waited for it to warm up. He felt a tickle in the back of his throat.
Robbie coughed a couple of times and felt a bit of phlegm come up. Oh, come on. Being sick with one weird disease wasn't enough? He spat it out into the sink so it could drain along with the rushing water.
It was black.
He stared as it swirled around and around in the sink. He coughed again. More black. More and more and more until it was dribbling in an almost constant stream down his chin. Okay. Alright. This had happened once before when he first started his medicine. It had sucked but he was ultimately fine. This was probably fine too.
He met his own eyes in the mirror and tried to take a steadying breath. The mold had started dripping out his nose. His left eye blackened and seemed to deflate. Shriveling and sinking into his skull as more mold spewed out of the rotting socket like a fountain. He wheezed and slapped his hand over it to try and stop everything inside him from leaking out.
There was a sort of snapping in his right eye as blood vessels there started to burst. The same feeling as breaking the last few nerves holding a loose tooth in. In seconds it was entirely bloodshot. His iris lightened from it’s usual dark brown to a jaundiced yellow. The same eyes covering the creature in the boathouse that called itself Jack Baker.
He stumbled back from the mirror and felt something in his jaw break loose. He reached up to try and feel what was wrong but stopped when he caught more black spreading up his hands. His scars formed deep grooves as his flesh molded over and shrunk down to the bone. It was creeping steadily up his arms, shooting through his veins like little spiderwebs, turning his skin the dull gray of a long dead corpse. He grabbed at his arms, desperately trying to stop it from spreading, only to spill more black as his new claws dug deep into what should have been skin and muscle. It didn't even hurt. He didn't feel anything except the panic presently choking him.
The endless black spilled over and dribbled into little puddles on the floor. He shuffled further away from the mirror until his back was against the wall and watched the mold spread across the linoleum as it had spread across himself. It was spilling over the edges of the sink now. Growing on the mirror. On the cabinets. On the walls. Each part of the bathroom that he made a habit out of bleaching meticulously was covered in black speckles. Everywhere he had stepped, each place his fingers brushed. Everything he touched was rotting.
There was a gun on the counter.
Something that sounded like distress came out of his throat. It was hard to tell. It was garbled and choked and chittering. Its reverberations ran deep into his chest and rattled his teeth. The sound was utterly inhuman. He forced himself forwards and grabbed the gun. He didn’t remember how it got there. Has it always been there? He couldn't remember.
His sharp fingertips were digging into what remained of the countertop, and he was having trouble fitting his claw through the trigger guard. He eventually managed. This wouldn't kill him, he knew that. But maybe it would allow enough time for Gabe to run away and get a head start before he totally lost himself. Would it be worse for Gabe to find him with a hole in his head or as a rotting husk of himself, attacking everything in sight?
He chittered again. A strip of flesh fell off his cheek and landed in the sink with a wet plap.
Robbie raised the gun up to the side of his head and squeezed his eyes shut. Or eye, rather. It didn't matter. For some reason he could still see his reflection. Whatever was doing this wanted him to see it through to the very end. The teeth under his horrible red eye were starting to peek through his rapidly decaying cheek.
The bang of the gun sounded off alongside his garbled shrieking.
-
Shrieking that woke him up.
No chittering that shook his skull and disjointed jaw. Just plain screaming. He never thought he would be so happy to hear it. He huffed, trying to catch his breath. Checked his hands; no traces of black mold. Just tanned skin striped with scars and damp from a cold sweat.
He breathed a sigh of relief and let himself relax back into the twisted sheets he had apparently been thrashing around in. There was a loud thump from downstairs, like someone had fallen down, which was swiftly followed by smaller thumps. A sound he had grown to recognize as Gabe rushing up the steps. He sat up and mentally prepared to put his brother back to bed.
Gabe slammed the door to Robbies room open before he could even stand up. His eyes were red, just in the normal way. Not the nightmare red and yellow. Tears were streaking his face. He sobbed and ran at Robbie, tackling him in a hug.
“You aren't allowed to do that!” He cried into Robbies chest.
Robbie held him close and stroked his hair, “Sorry, Gabe. I didn’t mean to wake you. I can try and get some good headphones for you so it won't happen again.”
Gabe sniffled against his shirt. He adjusted himself so he could glare up at Robbie. It would be adorable if he weren't so clearly upset.
“What? No, I don't care about that. I mean you can't do that!”
“I don't - I’m really sorry Gabe I don't know what you’re talking about.” Gabes glare got narrower. He raised his pointer finger to the side of his head and mimed ‘pow’.
Robbies spine went ridgid. What the fuck.
“I don't care how sick you get. I don't care if you heal fast. Don't. Do. That.” He felt his heart break a little. Gabe had buried his face back into Robbies shirt. That was nice. It made sure Robbie didn't have to try and hide whatever the hell his expression was.
Something repeated in the back of his head: It gave you my nightmares. That was what Gabe had said. It felt like an eternity ago but it had probably been just a little over a month.
“I didn’t--” Jesus, motherfuck, what the hell was he supposed to do? Maybe if he just started talking, he could find the right thing to say. Was there even a right thing to say at all? No parenting manual he’d ever read had a guide for what to do if you started sharing dreams with the person you looked after. Especially horrific nightmares like the one he just had.
Breathe. Focus. Gabe is upset. You know what to do when Gabe is upset.
Robbie pulled him closer, “It's okay. Everything is going to be okay.” He really couldn't guarantee that, but it had to be said for his own sake as much as it was Gabes. “I’m so sorry you had to see that. I didn’t want you to see that.” I didn’t want to see it either. “I don't think that's going to happen. I think it was like your dream. You remember what I said then, right? It’s just our brains coming up with what scares us most.”
“That's what scares you?”
“Yeah. If I–--” he swallowed, “if I'm not… myself, then I can't take care of you.”
“I get it. I didn’t like losing myself either.” God, he was so stupid. Stupid and selfish, of course Gabe knew what that was like. He had been stripped of his own self control, changed on a fundamental level and had powers Robbie was too scared to ask questions about. Here he was, running away from things, and his brother was stuck paying the price for it.
Robbie tried to talk past the lump in his throat. “I'm so sorry, Gabe.” He could feel tears leaking down his cheeks. He prayed to God they were normal. “I don’t - I don't know how any of this works and it freaks me out a little. You don't scare me, I meant that when I said it, but it’s hard for me to understand things I can’t see. I don’t see stuff in my head the way you do.” He took a moment to breathe and leaned back so he could get Gabe to look up at him. “Do you think you can explain how it works to me? I think you might know better than I do.”
Gabe scrubbed his eyes and sat up. “I have an idea, but I don't know for sure. I’m really not like Eveline, Robbie. She talked like she knew how everything worked and I just don’t. I could be really wrong.”
“That's okay. I don't expect you to know everything, just do your best.”
Gabe kept his eyes down, “So, the plants and my fr- flowers. My flowers. They connect and talk to each other. You can do that with people too, Robbie. Evie used it to tell everyone what to do, but I think you can just make it smaller. Like connecting just two people.” Gabe looked up at him, “I think sometimes, in our sleep, you and me talk like my flowers. Talking without talking. Showing each other things.”
Okay. That was a lot. It made sense, it did. But accepting that would mean that his brain had been more affected than he thought, that his body was probably more affected than he thought. If they could do this, what else was possible? Knock it off. Solve the problem in front of you.
“Alright. Do you know how to stop it?”
Gabe shook his head. “No. I thought my flowers made you sick and that was why we dreamed together, but it's not that. It takes a lot to break that connection.” Robbie remembered Gabe stomping on one of his flowers until it was nothing but a smudge on the forest floor. Probably not a good method to repeat.
He fiddled with the hem of his shirt, “Maybe we could just try to have good dreams instead?”
Robbie let out a short laugh, “That would be nice. I’d like to have good dreams with you. What would we dream about?”
“Hmmmmm… maybe ice skating? I can actually try it now! Ninja Wolf went ice skating before and he looked so awesome. He hopped on his swords and skated around on them, Robbie!”
Robbie would almost assuredly fall on his ass right away, but he would gladly take a dream about repeatedly slipping on ice over what their nightmares had been in the past. “That sounds nice. Do you want me to put you to bed downstairs and see if you can dream that?”
“No!” Gabe hugged Robbie tight again.
“Okay, that's okay, hey,” he started petting Gabes head again, “do you want to just stay with me tonight?” Gabe nodded and sniffled. “Alright, here let's just get a little more comfortable.”
He leaned back until he was resting just a little upright on his pillow so Gabe could lie down. His arms stayed wrapped tight around Robbies torso, like he was scared he’d disappear. Robbie shimmied the blankets up and over to cover them both.
“You know I’m not going anywhere, right?”
Gabe hugged him tighter and looked up at him very seriously, “I don't care if our dreams are close. I want to be actually close.”
Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry. “I want that too.”
They slept dreamlessly.

Interrogation
Previous Chapter - Masterlist - Next Chapter
»»-------¤-------««
Coyotes whaled in the distance of the Mexican desert, making an average person uneasy, but I didn't mind it. In fact, I found it comforting that there was some other type of life here besides us, although I couldn't help but recall the last time I was in a dark desert like this in the middle of the night...
When I was hung by my ribs courtesy of Manual Roba. Hung by hours on end as he and his men continued to try to brainwash me and interrogate me.
The memory alone made chills erect on my arms while I watched Alejandro force Hassan to his knees, removing the hood from his head so he can take in his view. Soap and Alejandro surrounded him, pacing as Graves set up a laptop on the hood of the car we had driven out here. Kiera stood on next to the fender of the car, leaning her elbow against the hood while I stood on the adjacent side, staying back to observe the situation in front of me.
I struggled to fight the dryness in my eyes, looking forward to the moment where I could sleep, everyone else around me seeming to fight the same feeling. I didn't even care about taking a shower at this point because I knew I could do it later as all I cared about right now was wrapping up this interrogation and closing my eyes.
"On your knees." Soap barked at him, standing back as Alejandro kept a hold on Hassan's shoulders.
"Y'all got a clear picture?" Graves said into the computer, two screens showing up on the other end, connecting live to General Shepherd and Laswell.
"Crystal."
"All set."
"Alright, we are live, folks." Graves announced, hooking his thumbs into his vest as he stopped in front of Hassan.
"Do you speak Arabic?" Hassan questioned.
"No."
"Farsi?"
"No."
Hassan scoffed, "Of course not. Then I'll speak your bastardized medieval English because you are all uneducated street dogs."
"Ah, see, we're getting off to a bad start here, Hassan." Graves shook his head.
"You're talking to a Quds Force officer."
"You're the commander of a foreign terror organization."
"I could say the same to you."
"What's your target, Major?" Graves mocked.
"What was your target when you sent missiles to my land?"
I looked over at Kiera when I heard her mumble, "Why would we send missiles to his land?" before jotting down a few words on a scrap piece of paper from Graves' notepad that sat next to the computer. What was she on about?
"Oh, wild guess, to nail your ass."
"So insolent and foul-mouthed. You will learn to respect me when your nation sees fire."
"You're in bed with the cartel, Hassan," Kiera chimed in. "If you disappeared, no one would know where to look for the stain."
I glared at Hassan when I noticed that he looked at her up and down, smirking as he liked what he was seeing. It disgusted me.
"So, I see it's all Americans that are so foul-mouthed and unintelligent. Sa'ajid muteatan fi hashw hadha alfam li'iiskatika. (I'll find pleasure in stuffing that mouth to shut you up.)"
"Eindama tafeal dhalika, sa'akun mtakdan min astikhdam 'asnani allaeinati. (When you do that, I'll be sure to use my fucking teeth.)"
I had no idea what they were saying, but I could at least understand Kiera's tone to retort to something inappropriate that Hassan said.
"What did he say to you, señora?" Alejandro asked.
"He said that he would find pleasure in stuffing my mouth to shut me up, and I told him that when he did, I'll use my fucking teeth." She scoffed.
If looks could kill, both Kiera and I would've had his head.
Hassan shook his head as he couldn't think of something else to say to her, but Soap quickly intervened and began to question him with the same gleam of anger in his eyes. "Where'd you get American missiles from?"
"I don't care where they're from, I want to know where they're going!" Shepherd barked, and I immediately noticed Kiera jotting down another few words, except this time, it looked like a sentence with Shepherd's name circled as well as Graves'.
Graves sighed, listening to the whaling coyotes that sounded closer than where they were before, "Take a look around, Hassan. Now, you can either become part of the food chain or you can start talking."
"I doubt you'll have pleasure in torturing me, but I'm a hostage here. This is illegal—"
"You're a prisoner of war." Alejandro growled.
"Iran is not at war with Mexico. I've broken no laws. These men and waqiha (slut) are the law breakers!" He shouted, again glancing at Kiera who was going through Hassan's phone that she had asked me for, jotting down a few words of information.
"Yeah, Bin Laden said the same thing too and you saw what happened to that motherfucker, huh?" She retorted.
"Do not speak his name!" Hassan shouted at her.
"Bin-fucking-Laden," She repeated, glaring at him and holding heavy eye contact with him. This lass was more than relentless. No man scared her, and I didn't know whether to be even more attracted or afraid of her because she took no bullshit from anyone. "By the time we were done with him, he looked like confetti."
Hassan glared at her, pursing his lips as he tried to stand to his feet before Alejandro forced him back down. "You and your beloved General Ghorbrani, too," Soap added. "Broke every law—"
"You executed him, and you will pay for your crimes! Allah wahdah qadir ealaa musaeadatik alan! (Only God can help you now!)"
"I want this bastard in permanent custody or looking up at the goddamn grass!" Shepherd ordered.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, General," Kiera advised as she was now standing in front of the computer, arching her brow at him, and I could see that he didn't like being advised by a woman, because his next question came with a hateful attitude.
"And why not, Dutton?"
"Killing him is an act of war and you know it. And I don't know about you, but I don't want to go back to war with Iran when they have possession of our missiles." She shrugged.
"She's right, General," Laswell intervened. "Killing him is an act of war and keeping him is illegal. Right now, he's too hot to hold."
"Tell me you're getting something actionable, Laswell."
"Working on it. Stand by."
Kiera stepped out of the way and stood in front of me, setting Hassan's phone on the hood while Graves and Soap approached closer, irritation towards Kiera written all over his face. Don't give me a reason to bash you, MacTavish.
"Actual, let me finish this." Graves pleaded.
"There's nothing I would like more, but the women are right. Without proof, we need to turn him loose and see where he takes us."
"He's right here, Kiera. You can't be serious!" Soap scoffed at her.
Right before I could say something, Kiera was quick with her wit, "As serious as a fucking heart attack, Johnny."
"Don't use my first name." He warned her.
"Then don't use mine." She glared at him, unaware that I was shooting Soap the same glare, telling him to back down before I intervened.
"Now, turn him loose. She'll work on getting more intel." Shepherd advised.
"She better." Soap mumbled under his breath, shaking his head before walking away. Oh, I was going to scold him for this later.
"Or what, MacTavish?" Kiera questioned, not letting him get away with it.
"Nothing."
"Thought so."
"Did we get anything from his phone?" I asked my group, now holding the phone in my hands.
"Affirmative. We got a hit." Laswell answered.
"Good. Now, take him back and let him go."
Soap sighed, watching Graves shut the laptop as Alejandro covered Hassan's head with a burlap sack, irritated that we practically did all of this work for what felt like nothing, but Kiera was right. We had no physical and solid proof about what Hassan's plans were, but something told me to trust her judgement since she was Laswell's second in command.
"I'd kill for a whiskey and Coke right now," Kiera shook her head, mumbling to herself as she approached me, opening her hand to retrieve Hassan's phone from me, tossing it to the ground and stomping it completely. "Fuckin' bastard."
"Could've had one if you would've let us kill him right here." Soap sneered. Don't bloody instigate, MacTavish.
"Shut your mouth, Sergeant, or I'll shut it for you." She warned, picking up the smashed phone and throwing it into the desert.
"What're you going to do, little lass? Kick me between the legs?" He taunted.
"No, I'll beat you like a man."
"You could never."
"Alright, when we get back to base, I'd like to see you try."
"'M not hitting a woman."
"Then why talk shit like you would?"
Soap didn't reply, mainly because he didn't have anything to say. Her glare was dangerous, and a part of me felt bad for the hot-headed Scot because I wanted her to beat him in line, but the other part of me wanted us to all get along and work together because we were all good assets to each other. She struck a nerve when she addressed him with his first name, it was clear that he didn't like that, but he had it coming when he addressed her by her first name in front of an enemy, possibly compromising her.
We left Hassan in the desert to wander the dirt road alone. Shepherd said to let him go, so we literally did just that. He could find his own way back for all we cared. Besides, his long walk bought us some time, especially when Kiera destroyed his phone. The ride back was an awkward silence, Soap's leg bouncing up and down impatiently while he kept his jaw taut. He was pissed that we had to let Hassan go, but somehow was more pissed that Kiera bruised his ego right in front of everyone. I wasn't surprised to watch him react in such a way, but I could see that he was contemplating on if he wanted to fight Kiera or not. And for his sake, he better hope that he doesn't lay a finger on a woman, or I'd take matters into my own hands.
"Do you need a medic, señora?" Alejandro asked after we cleared the entrance into his base.
"What she needs in an attitude adjustment." Soap mumbled, unaware that we all heard what he had just said.
"Won't you give it to me, then? Talking like you're some big and bad man yet you won't do anything about it." She retorted.
"I'm too good to hit a woman." He scoffed.
"But you don't mind talking shit to one? Tough." She growled, getting out of the back of the car the same time Soap did, the two standing almost nose-to-nose, glaring at each other. I quickly walked around the car, putting my arm between them and glared at Soap. "Stand down, Sergeant. Don't let her get to you." I tried to talk sense into him, but it wasn't working. Kiera had easily pushed his buttons, and it looked like I was going to have to break them up.
But a part of me wanted to see who was going to win, but I was better than that. Soap needed an attitude adjustment of his own, but he needed to pick a fight with someone his own size, not a lass who was smaller than him by weight and height.
"Johnny, if you don't stand down right now, you and I are going to have a problem." I warned, pushing my arm against his chest.
"Tell her that. She started it."
"No. You started it, Sergeant. I wouldn't blame her for bashing your head in. Stand down."
"I think the best thing is to let them fight it out," Alejandro commented. Was this bastard serious? A woman fighting a man? "She can take it."
"Bullocks." I scoffed.
"He's right, Lieutenant. I can take a punch from a man twice your size. Him, eh, it'll feel like I'm getting hit by a little boy." She shrugged.
Soap tried to lunge at her, but I stopped him. Kiera was in the wrong for instigating a fight like she was craving it, but she was of a higher authority than me, and the other part of me could see me defending her even if she was in the wrong. "What would the old man say right now? Hm? You're being bloody stupid. Think about it." I threatened.
"The old man would've told me to shut her up." Soap argued.
"Captain Price and I get along because he understands my judgement." She retorted. She's worked with Price before?
"Let 'em fight it out right here, Ghost," Alejandro said. "I don't want to see it either, but they'll cut out each other's throats the moment we leave them be."
"I'm not letting them. That's bloody stupid."
"It is, but you know it'll happen one way or the other, and it could happen on a mission and get us all compromised. If they duke it out now, they'll blow off steam and forget about it tomorrow."
"No. You two, stand down now." I warned them, my glare now at her. She looked cute when she was mad, but I knew I should get out of her way.
"I'll stand down. Don't know about your Sergeant, though. Seems he's too hot-headed."
"It's because of you, slag!" He shouted, taking it way too far and he had no idea what she was going to do next. I guess neither did I, because she had enough power to move my arm out of her way and punch him square in the jaw, knocking him off balance.
He cupped his jaw before he turned back around, watching her present her face to him before tapping her jaw with her index finger, mocking him and asking him for a hit back. I gave up at this point, standing out of their way as holding them back did nothing but boil their anger towards each other. "I'm not hitting a woman."
"Because you're too scared. I even took it easy on you, asshole. You won't do it. Come on." She hummed at him.
"If you do it, Sergeant, you don't know what you're getting yourself into." Alejandro warned him, but Soap didn't know whether that meant dealing with the rest of his men or Kiera herself, but by Alejandro's tone, it sounded like this wasn't the first time Kiera had gotten into a fight on the base.
Was it childish? Yes, but in a way, Soap brought this on himself. He figured that Kiera would back down to him if he were to try to assert dominance, but she was the wrong one.
"I'm not hitting her."
"You know you want to." She mocked.
"Yeah, I want to, but I'm not."
"Come on, get it out of your system. I actually want you to. Give me some exercise."
"Yeah, you definitely need it." He scoffed.
"And you need a haircut. What grown man wears a mohawk?"
"I do!"
"No shit! Where'd you get your haircut? Wean's World in Glasgow?"
Honestly, that was a pretty good comeback considering "wean" meant "child," meaning that she was calling him a little boy.
I couldn't even hold back a silent chuckle.
He couldn't take her instigating anymore. He charged at her, but she stopped him by reaching her arm behind him and grasped his belt, throwing him over her opposite leg and onto the ground before straddling him. He tried to restrain her, but she was quick to start punching. Eventually, he hooked his fist into her shoulder only to be hit harder by her.
Well, I guess his shot with her was long gone because he wasn't going to forgive her after this. "Is that all you've got, Johnny?" She taunted, trying to get a rise out of him.
"Saving my energy to put you into the ground." He groaned, taking another punch from her relentless fist before using his leg to tangle around hers, using his body to his advantage to force her onto her back, trying to pin her from keeping her from punching him again before she managed to turn herself against him to get back on top of him, ready to deliver another punch before I forcefully grabbed her and locked her arms against my chest, effortlessly pulling her off of him.
"Knock it off!" I warned in her ear.
"Let me go!"
"No," I huffed, pushing her against the side of the car before I took a pair of zip-cuffs from my vest, forcing her wrists together behind her back and disabling her. "Cool off. I think you've proven your point."
Alejandro snickered, walking over to Soap before offering his hand, helping him to his feet and offering him a rag to clean the blood from his lip. "Are you done?"
"Yeah."
"No, he's not done," I intervened. "You and I are going to have a talk, Sergeant."
"I'm not the one who swung first!"
"Doesn't matter! You still did it. You know better than this shite. I'm not here to fucking babysit you. Do you want me to make you wait on her hand and foot?"
"I wouldn't mind it. Thought it was kinda hot." He shrugged, mumbling under his breath.
"Alright. This night is over. You and I aren't finished." I pointed my finger at him.
"Yes, sir."
I shook my head as I moved to grasp Kiera's forearm, "Where are you staying?"
"You can let me go, Lieutenant. I know where to go—"
"I wouldn't put it past you to charge at him again. I asked you a question."
"Second floor of that building over there." She nodded her head towards the location of her quarters.
"Let's go." I gently tugged on her arm, escorting her myself to ensure that the situation wouldn't decline yet again. Even though I was angry with the situation, I wasn't angry with her. I would've done the same thing if I was in her shoes and could agree that Soap was in the wrong for saying those things and she had every right to respond the way she did, but she knew better, too. She could've just let it go through one ear and out the other, but I partially agreed with Alejandro when he said that it could've compromised us if they fought during a mission.
I escorted her up the stairs and down the hallway. "It's this one." She sighed.
Isn't that funny, her room ended up being right next to mine...
I opened the door for her, letting her walk inside before I unclasped the zip-cuffs from her wrists, watching her shake the tension away before taking her hair down from its tight bun, letting it fall over her shoulders. I took a brief moment to look around, seeing a laptop opened on the desk and a pink blanket sprawled across the bed that sat snug against the wall, a single door leading into a bathroom. Little did I know, it was a shared bathroom. And just down the hall was a small kitchen nook where most of the soldiers gathered for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
"Get yourself cleaned up."
"First thing on my mind." She shook her head.
"You need a medic?" I asked, referring to her leg injury she gained from earlier.
"No, but he might."
"I meant your leg."
"I'll be fine. I'll look at it when I go shower."
"Okay. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Lieutenant."
I couldn't help but blush behind my mask before I shut the door and made my way to my quarters just next door. My suspicion was right – the door that led to the bathroom in my room was joined with hers. It wasn't surprising as some barracks were like this instead of sharing an entire unit of showers. I removed my vest and weapons, followed by my boots as I sat them aside on a chair before removing my mask, laying it on the side table as I looked at myself in the mirror. My eyes were bloodshot and dry, exhaustion ready to take me into a deep sleep once I laid down, but I knew I couldn't fall asleep just yet as my brain was still processing what had happened today.
I feasted on my MRE while sitting on the edge of my bed, dressed in nothing but my fatigues and a black compression shirt, listening to the water of the shower in the bathroom, chuckling when I heard her say to her phone, "Siri, play 'I Remember Everything' by Zach Bryan!"
I could've grown irritated that she was playing music while in the shower, but I couldn't help but listen to her hum to the lyrics as well as singing along when a certain verse came along.
"A cold shoulder at closing time, you were begging me to stay 'til the sun rose. Strange words come on out of a grown man's mouth when his mind's broke, pictures and passing time you only smile like that when you're drinkin', I wish I didn't, but I do, remember every moment on the nights with you... Fuck, this is such a good song!"
I chuckled at her, noting that she had a good singing voice. Shaking my head, I threw away my MRE before standing to my feet, keeping my mask off of my face as I made my way to the kitchen nook down the hall. I only wore my mask for tactical reasons and didn't care if someone saw my face. It wasn't like I was ugly and covered my face for that specific reason, but I chose to cover my face when on the field to conceal my identity, only being known as Ghost as one of my biggest fears was for one of my enemies to recognize me or remember me.
But when I was in the safety of the barracks, I could care less about the stupid thing. In fact, I felt better without it on. Thankfully, nobody was in the kitchen nook except me, and I was eager to see if there was anything in the cabinets to make tea with. Yes, I was a typical Brit wanting tea late at night, who cares?
And thank fuck did they have a pack of tea bags in the cabinet along with a set of mugs beside it. Waiting for the coffee maker to warm up, I propped myself against the counter snacking on a protein bar that lay in the basket on the counter, staring blankly ahead of me. My goal was to make a mug of tea and take it back to my room before taking a shower myself and going to bed, waiting patiently for Kiera to end her shower before I could.
I turned my back to the room as I focused on making my tea, hearing a door creak open from down the hall. I didn't pay whoever any mind, throwing away the used tea bag before turning around to walk back towards my room, making eye contact with Kiera as she had been heading the same way. She didn't know who I was, or so I thought, but she quickly put the pieces together when she recognized my stature and black warpaint around my eyes. She didn't realize it, but her eyes were gleaming with surprise and interest.
She subtly pressed her thighs together before forcing herself to walk forward, a towel taut on the top of her head with a tank top and pair of sleep shorts to match. She really makes herself at home, yeah?
But fuck was it cute... and attractive.
She smelled of vanilla as her bare feet patted against the tile, her toes painted white as she entered the kitchen nook. "Do they have Coke in here?" She asked, keeping her eye contact towards the floor as she felt like she wasn't supposed to see my face.
"I didn't look. Though I highly doubt cocaine is on a military base." I shrugged, taking a sip from my mug as my eyes watched her lean over to look in the fridge. She was driving me crazy and didn't even know it. I studied the floral tattoo that covered her entire right thigh, breathing in heavily when I briefly imagined those thighs wrapped around my waist. Fuck, Simon! Stop sexualizing her!
"I meant a soda," She giggled. "Oh, yes! Coke and a bottle of whiskey! I hit the jackpot!"
I shook my head, "You're drinking this late at night?"
"Yeah, why? I have a report to do. It'll be a while before I fall asleep."
The more she talked to me with that oblivious gleam in her eye, I was going to have to cut our conversation short before I embarrassed myself in front of her with my obvious lack of intimate affection. I felt ashamed to think this way, but I wasn't going to let her realize that she was causing me to be sexually frustrated, wanting to fuck the attitude out of her. I was going to have no choice but take care of this issue with my own hand eventually, because I had no chance with a woman like her. Did I want to shoot my shot? Fuck yes, but I was too afraid of getting rejected, so I kept to myself. I had only known her for a day, but she had been a distraction throughout our entire mission by having me constantly making sure she was in my line of sight or making myself be there to coax her out of trouble because I didn't want another man to do it.
In my younger years, I would've taken the opportunity to flirt and test the waters, hoping for a night of sexual release with a mutual agreement, but I knew better now. I was in a higher rank and valued my job over one-night stands. Besides, a woman like her deserved more than that – a man to protect her from herself and more, to lay with her every night to be there for when she had a nightmare, to make love to her whenever she wanted it, not a one-night stand.
She was a fucking wildfire, and I didn't even know if I had the confidence to handle her.
It's weird, but I could see myself doing that with her – giving up a part in my world just to be a part of hers. She was just like me. We shared the same mindset, attitude, morbid humor, and work ethic. She was perfect for me, but I knew I was thinking with future thoughts instead of present, but there's no harm in wishing, right?
This woman was going to be the death of me, and I needed to prevent that, but what if I didn't want to?
"Fair point." I shrugged, focusing on my tea, unaware that I had drank more than I thought. I usually sipped my tea, but tonight, I found myself gulping it in a last-minute effort to avoid looking at her, knowing every time I did, a familiar tightness threatened to tent my pants.
I couldn't help myself as I looked down her legs to look at the huge gash from the rock she collided with when she had to jump from the cliff. "Don't you think it needs stitches?"
Fuck, Riley! Why'd you make it obvious that you were looking at her bare legs? You bloody idiot! Okay, you can justify it by saying that the fresh blood running down her leg caught your attention. Yeah, say that!
"Probably. I can stitch it up if I need to," She shrugged, moving past me to reach into the cabinet, pulling out a short glass before putting a handful of ice into the bottom of it, pouring a heavy amount of whiskey into the glass. "My adrenaline hasn't worn off yet. Might as well do it before it does, huh?"
Do what? Let me fuck you while it's in our system? Because I can see you pressing your thighs together, love. Goddammit, Riley! Go back to your room and jerk off and get it over with before you blow it!
"Probably a good idea." I breathed a chuckle, mentally slapping myself.
She flashed her hazel eyes at me as she moved back towards the fridge, putting the bottle of whiskey back into it before pulling out a can of Coke, cracking it open and taking a sip before her tongue slipped out to lick her lips, "This Mexican Coke is the best."
"Thought it all tasted the same?"
"Oh, no. Mexican Coke is way better," She hummed. "I've got some work to do. I'll see you later."
"Sure thing." I nodded, watching her walk away with each hand full of her evening treat of whiskey and Coke as well as a couple of Reese Cups.
Fuck, my dick physically hurt at the thought of her under me, and I knew I needed to do something about it before it got me in trouble. Her eyes looked at me with curiosity and arousal when she realized what I looked like beneath my mask, and I began to wonder if she realized that she liked when I forced her hands behind her back. Cheeky lass, yeah? I'll take care of it if you'll let me.
Little did I know, we both went to bed that night sexually flustered.

I'm Still Standing
The League felt like they had a strong sense of Phantom’s power. After all, they wouldn’t have asked him to join the team, otherwise. He’s strong, he can fly, and due to his supernatural nature, he’s amazing on recon and stealth missions. He’s also incredibly reliable, and smarter than most people give him credit for. He’s a natural hero, a more snarky Captain Marvel, some news outlets have been saying. Always saving people with just the right words to say, with a humble smile on his face.
Phantom, with all of his power, seemed untouchable in every definition of the word.
And then they got invaded by Darkseid.
It wasn’t the first time Darkseid had invaded Earth, but it was the first time bringing armies so large, the first time he’s attacked all over the world to spread the League thin. It is single handedly the worst alien invasion Earth has ever had.
Batman, bleeding out on the sidewalk, Wonder Woman knocked unconscious and restrained by a nearly egregious amount of henchmen, Superman, weak from the kryptonite Darkseid had shot him with. Thankfully it had missed all the important bits, but with that bullet inside of him, Superman was also down for the count, as well as dozens of other League members.
If it hadn’t been for Phantom, they would have lost.
Phantom, who’s never been seen without a smile on his face until now. Phantom, who’s never had so much as a scratch on him, until now. Phantom, who has only ever been known to be kind and compassionate, even to his villains, until now.
Usually there’s this sort of warm, comforting feeling that radiates from Phantom. It feels like a nice breeze on a warm summer’s day, a nice cup of hot cocoa, your favorite song. It’s a feeling of safety, as if everything will be alright just because he’s there.
Here, though, something else, something much stronger, is radiating from him. It practically rolls off of him in huge waves, making those conscious around him more aggravated, more on edge.
Phantom pulls himself off of the ground. His suit is torn, and his green blood splattered on himself and the ground. He spits a glob of it out, along with a tooth.
“Still, you stand,” Darkseid says, as if tired. “Do you not tire in the face of your own demise?”
“As long as I’m still standing, you won’t ever win,” Phantom says. His voice is low and threatening, reverberating eerily off of the broken infrastructure that surrounds them. It sends a chill down everybody’s spines, though if Darkseid is affected, he doesn’t show it.
“Your comrades have fallen, your militaries have failed, and you have no other help arriving. Pray tell how one singular human will be able to take me down!”
Phantom doesn’t answer right away. Instead, he walks forward so that his friends are behind him, and braces himself. Darkseid, unable to contain his own hubris, lets Phantom come closer.
Phantom takes in a deep breath, as if he’s about to speak.
Instead he wails.
Any remaining glass shatters, raining down upon them as green sound waves push back the offending forces.
And it’s loud, of course. The ears of Darkseid’s minions are bleeding, and many of them are either dying because it’s too much for them to bear, or they’re killing themselves to give themselves some modicum of relief. But it’s also more than that, more than noise.
It’s mourning.
The first feeling that overwhelms everyone is anger. Phantom’s anger at Darkseid, at the destruction, at the fact that he just can’t catch a fucking break and it’s not fair. The second, is the sadness. It weighs down upon their shoulders, suffocating them like smog. It invades every part of their being-their lungs, their joints, their very hearts-and it presses and presses and presses until there’s very nearly nothing left.
Phantom still pushes on. He is nothing if not persistent, driven to fight, driven to protect his people, his team, his friends, his family. No mortal being could ever hope to have a lung capacity like this, but Phantom is no normal mortal, and Darkseid is finally starting to come to terms with that.
The last wave of overwhelming emotion is more of an idea than it is an actual feeling. It’s not a threat, per se, but a promise. A promise to do everything in his power to destroy Darkseid and his forces permanently and with prejudice. A promise that no matter how hard Darkseid fights, he will not win.
A promise that, if knocked down, Phantom will stand back up, and he will not lose.
Eventually, after what feels like eternity, the wail dies down. There isn’t a single member of Darkseid’s army that’s still on their feet or in the air. Phantom collapses down to one knee, and bright, white rings flicker around his person for just a moment, before he wills them away and stands back up.
It’s less walking towards Darkseid, and more stalking. They are not on equal footing. Phantom is the predator in every sense of the word, his anger and grief still radiating off of his body in ways that Darkseid is unable to comprehend.
“Do you yield?” Phantom asks. His eyes are blazing green, burning into Darkseid’s very soul. It is a sort of animalistic, primal instinct deep within him that tells him, run, run as fast as you can. Darkseid’s hubris, however, remains unmatched.
Even as he stares Death in the eye.
“I do not,” Darkseid says. He tries to get to his feet, but his body won’t listen, still weighed down by the effects of Phantom’s wail.
“Then as Phantom, King of the Dead, I hereby condemn you for the rest of your afterlife.”
“Don’t count your eggs yet, boy,” Darkseid spits. “I’m still alive.”
“No,” Phantom says, in a tone adjacent to someone who’s giving their condolences, “You’re not.”
Phantom gestures beside them, and Darkseid spares a glance and sees…Himself.
His corpse is splayed on the ground, blood spurting out of his ears, nose, and eyes. He stares lifelessly up at the sky. The blood is still leaking down the sides of his face.
“You’re dead now, Darkseid, and therefore under my jurisdiction. Due to your extensive list of crimes you will not receive a hearing, just your eternal damnation for the sins you’ve committed.”
Phantom waves his hand, and green chains and manacles appear on Darkseid’s wrists and ankles before he’s dusted out of existence, sent to his eternal punishment in another dimension.
As soon as he’s gone, Phantom collapses to his knees.
He’s not sure how long he’s there, sitting in the blood of those he’s killed, before Wonder Woman comes over. She’s covered in gashes and bruises and blood that isn’t hers, but she still stands tall and proud. A battle won is a reason for celebration, after all.
He glances behind her, sees Superman taking Batman into his arms and flying off.
Diana doesn’t ask him questions about how he’s feeling. A victory is a victory, sure, but not without its price.
Instead, she holds out her hand. Danny grasps it, and allows her to help him to his feet.
“As long as you can stand, you can win,” Diana says. “I think I’ll have to use that for my next big speech.”
“By all means,” Phantom tells her. “Just be sure to credit me.”
“Deal.”

DPXDC PROMPT : ALFRED IS IMMORTAL
Alright. Don't get me wrong, I love au's where John Constantine is like "soul tax evader supreme", but hear me out.
Alfred.
Alfred, Alfred Pennyworth. Who just doesn't die. The guy's immortal. The reason for this is that Alfred is awesome, so anytime he dies, whether it be from old age or a bullet or a world-wide catastrophe, he looks Death straight in the eyes and tells them that he will die when the day comes that no one needs him anymore, and not a second before, and then he just kinda pops back to life. Because let's face it, the batfam would fall to pieces without him.
So, Alfred Pennyworth has basically just been cheating death for centuries, by this point.
Needless to say, Death is none too pleased. Finally, Death goes to Phantom, the new king, who is much more reasonable than Pariah Dark was and who agrees to actually help.
Clockwork helps Danny set up a portal and he zaps into existence in the middle of a Wayne movie night. The bats are all prepared to fight this mysterious weirdo, but Danny ignores them and turns to Alfred, who he then begins lecturing about ghostly tax evasion and how defying death isn't a good thing, so he needs to file paperwork through the proper channels to stay as an immortal almost-God.
Alfred is chill, he plays cards with Clockwork once when he dies, so he knew this was coming, but the batfamily thinks that this mysterious entity is going to kill Alfred, so they're all panicking, trying to think of ways to avoid this horrible future. Alfred calmly listens to Danny, then he interjects.
"Sir, are you aware of the fact that there is a revenant on earth? One who is most certainly under threat of more paperwork than I, seeing as he has been using the Lazarus Pits to revive himself for millennia. I, however, have only been alive for a few hundred years, so I should think that he is a bigger priority. "
Danny glances over at Jason, doubtful. "He doesn't look several millennia old, Mr. Pennyworth."
"Certainly not, seeing as Master Jason is not. Besides, his Undeath License was filed. I have a copy of it if you need to see it, your Majesty?" Alfred answers, demure as always.
"If it wouldn't be too much trouble, sir."
Alfred leaves and returns, moments later with a light green glowing piece of paper. he hands it over to Danny, who examines it.
"Seems legitimate. I assume you filed it during one of your many encounters with Death?"
"Indeed. I have it on good authority, however, that the other revenant, a man by the name of Ra's Al Ghul, has not renewed his License in at least the last half millennia, most likely longer."
Danny sighs. "Where can I find him."
"Nanda Parbat. The signature is impossible to miss."
"Alright, Mr. Pennyworth. I will return once he is dealt with, be it by filing his paperwork or returning him to the Infinite Realms."
"Very well. I will be ready." Alfred answers.
Danny opens a portal to the area around Nanda Parbat and then another, which plops him down right in front of the Demon's Head himself, in a strategy meeting with his daughter and several commanders.
They all raise their weapons, but he just basically grabs Ra's by the ear and tugs him through a Lazarus Green portal, lecturing him about tax evasion and paperwork and bureaucracy the whole time. The League is thrown into uproar, and Ra's is set down in a room with all his overdue paperwork from the past few thousand years. He feels a little bit like crying; if he had known immortality meant this much paperwork, he would've just died, honestly.
Meanwhile, in Wayne Manor, everyone is crying, because they think Alfred is going to die, Jason is confused about the whole revenant Undeath Certificate thing, Bruce is trying to make contingency plans, Tim is contacting the Justice League, and Alfred is planning out his defense and going through every ghostly law loophole he can think of because if he leaves these emotionally constipated crime-fighting vigilantes, he knows that the house that Martha so loved will go up in flames within a month.
Eventually, Danny comes to get Alfred for his ghostly court trial/hearing or whatever, and Alfred says goodbye to Bruce and everyone, goes to the Infinite Realms. Clockwork is on his side, and Alfred ends up winning the court case, on the condition that now that the has an Undeath License, he actually renew it every twenty years, like he's supposed to.
A week later, Alfred returns, crashes his own funeral, and explains that no, he will not be dying anytime soon.
Two weeks after Alfred's return, Constantine shows up at the manor basically begging to learn how the hell he managed to avoid death, and not only that, win a damn court case against them.

"Ah, yes. Me, my beloved Prefect and my lookalike tsum from another dimension."
Twst Boys and their reactions to you cuddling their tsum instead of them Headcanons
part 1 part 2 part 3
tagging: @darkflowerav
Trey Clover
This might as well happen.
The Universe just keeps throwing things Treys way doesn't it...
He was hoping for a chill night.
But no. The tsum had to mess that up.
It's fine. He's not gonna get jealous of a plush toy.
He'll let you have your fill of cuddles from the tsum.
But beware should you only show affection to the tsum and ignore his open arms he will pay you back for the entire next week by not giving you cuddles and kisses.
He doesn't hold grudges, he swears.
He does. He holds grudges.
Ace Trappola
Come on!
He's right here you know!
He can see you ignoring him and only paying attention to this tsum!
He swears it is looking down on him. Ugh!
.... Is this about the joke he made this morning? It was just a joke! He already apologized.
No, Deuce, he's not jealous! (he is.)
He already got teased all day about this!
Cuddle him? Pretty please???
He's giving you puppy eyes. The tsum redirects your attention back to it every singe time he does.
Ace is not amused.
Ruggie Bucchi
After a full day of running errands and looking after his tsum, Ruggie is ready to fall into bed and your arms.
Hey, what's the tsum doing here?
Oh, well, fine. It can have one corner of the bed.
What do you mean you plan on cuddling it to sleep and not him???
But he needs your cuddles! They're the best part of his day! ...Night?
Anyways! You promised him cuddles and one single hug won't do it.
He'd use his UM and make you up the tsum away... but he doesn't want to see you upset.
So as long as you promise to drown him in affection tomorrow, he'll let you have the tsum for the night.
You do wake up in the middle of the night with Ruggie hugging you. He's also not letting go.
Jamil Viper
He just can't catch a break, can he?
He'll live.
Jamil is not happy about the new arrangement. But he'll have to make do.
When you ask him about the sour look on his face he says he's fine.
He's obviously not thrilled about the tsum.
So you decide the three of you will cuddle.
You're pretty sure Jamil and his tsum are side eyeing each other.
Neither on of them moves tho. So it should be fine... right?
You'll make it up to Jamil tomorrow for letting you have your cuddles with his plush lookalike.
Vil Schoenheit
Vil enjoyed his tsums company well enough.
It was not doing anything that would get either one of them in trouble.
What a well mannered tsum. He expected no less.
Vil allowed it to be pampered by you for the day.
And he's even allowing it to sleep in the bed with the two of you. As long as it makes you happy he's willing to make a few exceptions.
But this is ridiculous!
You're not even paying attention to him!
Him! Vil Schoenheit! YOUR BOYFRIEND.
It's been such a long day and you're lavishing all of your attention on a plush and not him!
This is unacceptable!
...Perhaps he should test the new makeup products he just got on the tsum first.
And you! You'll have to make it up to him with lots of affection. Tomorrow.
Idia Shroud
It's okay. He'll just... play some games.
Idia knew you wouldn't be able to resist the cuteness of a tsum. They're perfectly made to be cuddled with.
It's alright. He expected this.
He can't really complain when it's HIS tsum that's making you so happy.
.....
BUT WHY THE HELL DOES HE FEEL LIKE HE'S THIRD WHEELING THE TWO OF YOU!?!??!
HE'S YOUR BOYFRIEND.
The tsum should respect this and back of a little!
A few cuddles here and there are fine! But come on! Pay some attention to him too!
At this point Idia can feel his hair turning orange.
You better calm down your gamer boyfriend before some unsuspecting player gets caught in the crossfire.
Malleus Draconia
So far Malleus has been unbothered with the tsum appearances.
They're quite interesting creatures.
He's been happily spending time with his lookalike. It's good to have an ice cream eating buddy.
Truly, he's enjoyed the company.
Malleus thought nothing of it when you brought the plush in the bed.
He was fine with it. Everything was fine.
Until the tsum started hogging your attention, that is.
The Diasomnia housewarden is a hair width away from incinerating his plush lookalike.
....Are those storm clouds forming in the distance?....
Maybe you should pay more attention to your boyfriend.... and quick.
Silver
Luckily for everyone Silvers tsum is a calm one.
I fact, both Silver and the tsum were already asleep when you were done changing in your pajamas.
You know Silver was trying his best to stay awake so you just give his temple a quick peck for his attempt.
And one for the tsum as well.
It looks like you won't have cuddles tonight since they're both sleeping.
To your surprise you do wake up in the middle of the night sandwiched between your boyfriend and his plush counterpart.
Nice and comfy~

BUT YOU BELONG TO ME!
in which — some jealousy headcanons / scenarios for our favourite luofu men!
featuring — dan heng, blade, jing yuan (separately) x gn!reader
wc: total 1.8k, from req: here!, they're so silly goodbye, march + fu xuan cameo ;) reblogs w comments are appreciated, please enjoy!!!
#DAN HENG
look me in the eyes and tell me dan heng wouldn’t be the “i'm jealous, but i don’t wanna show it” (but it’s so PAINFULLY obvious that he’s jealous) type, you can’t.
definitely amusing to watch him play it cool, cus he has nothing else going on in his brain when you’re within 10 metre radius from him.
honestly it would have to be quite specific situations if he ever gets jealous because he likes to keep you close by his side as often as possible. dating or not, he would have some sort of protective instinct —always making sure you’re secure and cared for. (and yes of course march teases him for it, he never admits it though.)
dan heng tries to focus on the book in his hands, but his mind refuses to make any sense of the words on the page —at least not when you’re standing so close to boothill. (too close for his liking anyway)
the cyborg sits at the opposite end of the couch where dan heng was, while you deftly adjust a compartment of his, engaging in small talk as he makes lighthearted jokes with you. dan heng hears your laughter ring out; the laughter that he adores so dearly, the laughter that never fails to warm his chest, and the laughter he wishes he was the reason for instead.
his eyes flicker up from the page to sneak a glance at you, the way your hands glide over boothill's body churns an ugly feeling, twisting in his chest. he shifts in his seat, trying to find a more comfortable position, but the unease remains.
his focus on you is suddenly shattered by a loud voice that belongs to no other than march, "dan heng, if you grip that book any harder, you might tear off a page." she stands in front of him, hands on her waist.
“the way i am holding my book is perfectly fine, now if you will, i must get back to re—”
“oh c’mon! we all know your ass is not actually reading that book!” he raises an eyebrow, and march only rolls her eyes in response. “it’s literally upside-down.” she teases, unable to hold back a chuckle.
dan heng glances down at the book in his hands, finally noticing the upside-down text, to which he quickly closes the book and puts it down. "maybe i was just testing your observational skills.”
march shakes her head, "yeah right… just admit you’re too busy staring at them!”
“no i’m n—” he begins to protest but is interrupted when you suddenly appear in front of him. “staring at who?” you tilt your head curiously, and he can only hope that you don’t hear the loud thumping of his heart.
march giggles as she runs off to who-knows-where, he silently curses her for leaving him in this predicament. he manages to regain his composure, though his cheeks retain a faint pink hue. “ahem, anyway…” he trails off when you sit down next to him, your thighs brushing against each other.
alright you can’t keep doing this to him. he’s not a cyborg but it certainly seems like he’s malfunctioning at that moment. (though he doesn't mind if you have to “repair” him next; he considers it far preferable to having your hands on boothill anyway.)
#BLADE
this guy REEKS of jealousy.
he gets jealous over anything —saying “good night!” to an acquaintance? well unfortunately, i don’t think they’re going to be having a very good night; a friendly smile from a passerby? the sudden chill in the air accompanied by his sharp glare is enough to make them rethink their life decisions.
and the worst part? he knows it. he's aware of how irrational his jealousy can be, but that doesn't stop the surge of possessiveness that washes over him.
(deep down, he just wants to feel secure in your attention and affection, but it’s true that his jealousy sometimes gets the better of him.)
blade’s “things to get rid of” list exponentially grows with each passing day, ranging from general items he sees no use of, to addresses of people who have wronged you in the past.
but there’s one item on the list that stands out from the rest, the one item he can’t seem to bring himself to get rid of, no matter how hard he tries.
37. “blade plushie”
okay but what kind of website is “stellaron hunters fan merch for sell.com” anyway? since when do they have a fanbase, and why did you have to buy a plushie of him, of all things?
he shoots daggers at the plushie sitting on your bed, on his side of your bed. while he can't always be by your side, surely there's no need for an inferior replacement?
blade sits down beside you, discreetly moving the plushie out of the way. just as you turn to reach for it, he wraps his arm around you and snuggles up to your side; you immediately pause at his affectionate gesture; his hair brushes against your neck as he buries his face into it.
“blade.. what are you doing?” you turn your attention to him, much to his delight.
“why not spend more time with the real deal instead of… that.” he tightens his grip around you, at this point he isn’t even trying to hide his jealousy (over a plushie lmao) anymore.
"you mean mr. edgelord...?" you barely manage to stifle your laughter as blade shoots up beside you. doesn’t hurt to tease him for a bit, right?
“what did you say… “edgelord”?” he scoffs, his face twisting into a scowl. he can’t believe you gave that thing a nickname, how ridiculous. he makes a mental note to get rid of it asap.
“yeah, what about it? jealous that he’s better than you?” you smirk, leaning in close to his face. perhaps you’re enjoying his expression of pure bitterness a little too much, who knew such a handsome face could look so hilariously indignant?
his eyes twinkle in amusement, before closing in the distance. “hah, never.” his tone tinged with a touch of possessiveness that he can't quite hide.
“really? you seem like you’re about to kill it.” you wrap your arms around his neck, his expression softens for just a split second, but you’re able to catch it anyway. “would you please spare mr. edgelord if i give you a kiss?”
he doesn’t respond with words; he presses his lips against yours, gently cradling the back of your head. (you quickly turn mr. edgelord to face the wall before blade pulls you away)
maybe he’ll spare “it” for another day or so, just don’t let him catch you hugging “it” in your sleep again, alas you want “it” to suffer the same fate as the others on his list.
#JING YUAN
hmm our beloved general… well he trusts you, and believes that you won’t do anything rash; but on the other hand there are just some things that neither of you can control, whether it’s letters sent in to ask for his hand in marriage or admires trying to sweep you off your feet (before he can).
though not many people would approach you once your relationship goes public, given that he’s the general and all. but imagine him before the two of you became official, clinging to you to fend off your admirers, and the expression on their faces when you shake your head, denying that you’re dating at all.
“as for the situation at cloudford— general, are you even listening?” fu xuan furrows her brows, and crosses her arms, clearly annoyed. “ah my apologies lady fu, please keep going.” jing yuan only flashes a half-hearted smile at her before glancing over to your direction again.
you feel a pair of eyes boring into your back, undoubtedly jing yuan’s; but you pay it no mind, choosing to focus on the discussion at hand. his grip on his teacup tightens when he sees the foxian talking to you leans closer to catch your words. fu xuan raises an eyebrow in concern, unaware but still sensing the rising tension; his eyes visibly twitch the moment their hand brushes against yours.
“lady fu, let’s reschedule our meeting for another time. i believe i have some… important matters to attend to.” jing yuan rises up from his seat before fu xuan can reply, swiftly making his way towards you.
you’re startled by the sudden feeling of jing yuan’s arms around you, his chest pressing against your back, as he places his chin against your head. “sorry to interrupt, what’re you two discussing about?” the foxian is taken aback by the general's sudden appearance, and especially by your current position with him.
“n-nothing general!” the foxian seems to hesitate before continuing, “if it isn’t rude to ask, are the two of you…in a relationship?” jing yuan’s face lights up with his usual lazy smile, but this time it doesn't quite reach his eyes.
your eyes widen in surprise as he presses his lips against your nape, you shiver at his touch, a rush of warmth spreads across your cheeks. you should deny it, to say that you're not in a relationship at all, but you can't bring yourself to. instead, you divert your gaze from the foxian, hoping to spare yourself any further embarrassment.
“go on, tell them.” he whispers lowly so that only you can hear him. this bastard, you’re going to give him a stern talking to after this..! “sorry to cut this short, please excuse us.” you give a polite nod before pulling the general away.
two days later, as you’re walking along the streets of central starskiff haven, you come across a group of people gathered around a stall. curious, you head over to check out what’s happening. —you’re absolutely mortified to discover stacks of articles detailing recent events of you and jing yuan.
“breaking news! the general is secretly married?!” / “the truth behind general jing yuan’s relationship status” / “rumours confirmed: a detailed guide to the general of luofu’s relationship saga”
well at least the pictures of you and jing yuan got your good side… and your bad side, and your “i definitely did not sign up for this” side. and oh look, there’s one of you dragging jing yuan by his ponytail too, how wonderful, you’re definitely purchasing that one.
but yeah no, you’re not beating the allegations after this.

Yours, Mine, Ours
Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley x Reader
wc: 1.5k words
warnings/tags: fluff
“So did the other two actually say no or did you just never invite them?”
“‘Course I invited them, you asked me to, so I did.” Simon replies with ease, keeping his eyes fixed on the road ahead of him. “They’re smart lads, lovie, they knew to say no all by themselves.”
You shake your head at him in disbelief but the smile that’s been plastered across your face ever since the two of you pulled out of your flat’s parking doesn’t budge. Simon’s been driving for a few hours now, and as stressful of an experience as that is alone, you’re too excited to mind the long journey in the car.
Simon is on leave for the next two weeks, something about Price having to attend a funeral following a death in the family, and deciding that everyone on the force was due for a bit of time off. Seeing as the Captain was going to be preoccupied during his time off duty, he had asked if Simon wouldn’t mind checking in on his house for him, making sure things were alright. He’d even offered for the two of you to stay in the guest room for the duration of their leave.
Simon had explained how Price knew that the two of you were living in a small flat in London, and apparently his home was in a beautiful, forested, isolated area which meant he had essentially no neighbours, something he also knew would appeal to Simon. He offered for the two of you to stretch your legs out there at enjoy the property, including the privacy that came with it.
Wanting to be polite, you’d told Simon he should extend the invitation to Soap and Gaz, thinking they might enjoy a nice, quiet stay-cation as well at their Captain’s place away from it all. It would appear your lover had different ideas in mind however. Though you couldn’t blame him entirely, the thought of having the cozy cabin all to yourselves was certainly more appealing.
Every which way you look outside the car, your vision is filled by endless blurry trees as you zoom by, the colours of the leaves having finally changed into the warmer, more vibrant colour palette that came along with the autumn chill. If the drive up to his property was any indication of how beautiful the area really was, then you were in for quite the treat.
Entranced by the beauty of the landscape in comparison to the city lights you’ve grown so used to, you fail to notice the glances Simon keeps sneaking your way, the smallest of satisfied smiles seemingly permanently etched upon his face beneath his balaclava. He was grateful that after explaining the situation and Price’s generous offer to you, you had been too excited to ask many questions, instead getting a jump start on packing a duffel bag or two.
You were one of the most intelligent, clever, curious people he’d ever known, and it was normally quite difficult to get anything by you. He was therefore feeling rightfully proud of himself as he drove you nearer and nearer to the home you believed belonged to his Captain. In actuality, there was no funeral for Price to attend, the sergeants had certainly not been invited along on your getaway, and the home you’d be staying in wasn’t Price’s.
It was yours.
Yours, and Simon’s.
The two of you had been living in that shoebox of a flat he’d considered as ‘satisfactory’ when he was only staying there as a bachelor, for far too long. As ideal as the location might have been, there simply just wasn’t enough space for two people to live together, even considering Simon’s absences for work and that fact that when he was home, you two were essentially always on top of one another anyways.
You’d both been searching for a new flat for what felt like ages now, none of the places you visited feeling like the right fit. Simon would be weary about a certain neighborhood, you’d be concerned with the lack of any balcony or outdoor space, he’d ignore the price tag that felt your eyes bulging, and you’d shake your head as you walked through doorways that had him needing to duck down.
Little did you know, Simon had been doing his own house hunting, outside of the city. You had told Simon you were fine with staying in London, understanding that it’s convenient to have everything near by. But Simon didn’t want to give you just ‘fine’. He wanted to give you a home. The home he intends to spend the rest of his life with you in, plans on carrying you over the threshold in your wedding dress, hopes to carry sleeping newborns in their car seats through the door.
For months now, Simon has subtlety been learning more about what that home looked like to you. He’d look over your shoulder as you scrolled through Pinterest, casually asking if you could show him your boards, you know just for fun, and paid very close attention when you showed him the one named ‘future house’. On his phone, he had a list a mile long in his notes app, from secretly writing down every comment you made while watching your home reno shows. He’ll casually ask you what you think of the houses you drive by, jotting down your answers in his mind, remembering likes and dislikes.
He believes that like you, it’s the people filling the home that matter more than the structure itself, as proven by the way you continue to put up with his minuscule flat. He knows you mean it when you say you’re alright with another flat. But he has the money goddammit, he has the means to do this for you, and when the listing came up for a home in what you’d revealed as being your ideal area to settle down in one day, the house resembling the amalgamation of everything he believed you’d described as being your perfect place, he knew he had to put an offer in.
And if there ever was anything about the house you didn’t like or wanted to change, he’d gladly do it for you, no questions asked. You want to paint the bedroom? Just tell him what colour you want. You want to change the railing on the wrap around porch? He’s on his way to the hardware store already. You need him to dig a stump out of the backyard to make room for your garden? Sit back and enjoy the show lovie, he’s on it. And when the time comes to build a crib? Well he may as well baby proof the whole house while he’s at it too.
He’s pictured your reaction a thousand times over in his mind. He imagines you’ll maybe give a small gasp when he turns the corner of the long driveway and you first see the cozy, two-storey home, surrounded by never-ending foliage of red, orange, and yellow leaves, the time of year perfect for appreciating autumn in the UK, as well as the privacy the tall trees grant you. He thinks the first thing you’ll comment on will likely be the windows, an item high on your priority list he knew to adhere to.
He imagines you kicking off your boots as you step through the door, pace quickening to explore every room, spinning in the kitchen as you joke about how jealous you are of Price. He pictures you groaning with envy when you spot your dream master bathroom, insisting to Simon that since you’d been tasked with checking in on the home you may as well see every room, right? He plans to explain away the obvious sparseness of the home as the Captain not having lived here long, as being very non-materialistic after all his years in service.
He’ll continue to play along for as long as he can, part of him knowing that you know him well enough that you’re likely to catch onto his deception at some point. However he hopes that before you start rummaging through kitchen cabinets and find them empty, too empty even for an absentee captain of a homeowner, that you’ll mention something along the lines of wishing you could stay here longer. That’s when he plans to slip a key into the palm of your hand, revealing that you might be able to stay longer than you believe.
The small piece of metal that’ll unlock the rest of your lives together, sits heavy in his pocket, in contrast to the light feeling in his heart when his hand reaches across the dashboard to grab a hold of yours, knowing that the content, lovesick smile you offer him is likely stretched across his face as well, staring right back at you.
Though you’re unaware that Simon is currently driving towards your home, and not away from it, you’re gently stroking the scarred skin across his hand, feeling as though your home is sitting right next to you, holding your hand and your heart at the same time.
