Yang Xiao Long-RWBY

Qualifications:

She is canonically wlw (has been for years but specifically kissed and got together with her now girlfriend in the latest season) and uses a prosthetic arm and has been shown to struggle with PTSD due to the traumatic nature of losing it during the show.

Canonically had her right arm chopped off, uses a prosthetic. Has PTSD. Is canonically in a WLW relationship.

She has a canon girlfriend and canonically has a prosthetic arm and PTSD

She's canonically sapphic (part of a recently canonised wlw slowburn relationship) and is an amputee (due to events from the 3rd season finale) who wears a robotic prosthetic. She also suffers from PTSD which is explored in the show

Propaganda:

I will keep on submitting Yang to relevant brackets until I die. RWBY has plenty of strengths and weaknesses with writing, especially Yang's recovery arc, but instead of forcing her to push past her trauma and enter the battlefield immediately, we see her struggle with it, take time to process, and not be pushed into repression and when she chooses to wear her prosthetic, chooses to train to ready herself, and chooses to seek out her family and save lives, she isn't perfectly healed, as no one is. The show depicts her having flashbacks due to sudden loud noise, shaking hand the first few times she has to fight for her safety instead of training with her dad, and snapping at friends when they bring up Blake, the person she lost her arm trying to save (who, near immediately after ran away due to feeling she was endangering those she loved, furthering Yang's already present abandonment issues.) It isn't done perfectly but the intentions and general message sent are extremely positive and honest. She struggles less as the show progresses, and there are opportunities to consider herself less for being disabled or "become whole again" but she explicitly refutes these ideas and says that's she's better because of her failures and losses, and isn't any less whole. Her becoming disabled is also extremely tied to her being LGBT, because, as previously mentioned, she lost her arm protecting her then friend and partner, now girlfriend, directly after the villain who cut her arm off told her love interest that he would "destroy everything [she] love[s]. (Camera pans to Yang, he looks at her.) Starting with her." LIKE. He attacked her BECAUSE Blake cared for her so much and Yang ran to her defense blindly BECAUSE she loved Blake so much. When they reunite, they struggle with communication because Yang feels Blake is seeing her as weak, and through several things, mostly a climatic battle against the man who severed Yang's arm, they affirm each other as equals. I can go on but this is already too long. YANG SWEEP!!!!!

Yang lost her arm while protecting her best friend and future girlfriend from said girlfriend's abusive ex. Had a whole arc about learning to live with that loss and dealing with PTSD. Is totally devoted to and in love with Blake Belladonna and is just the sweetest but most badass character in the show.

She's one of the main characters, and just finished a 10 year slow burn romance. Plus, she has both physical and mental disabilities, but is never treated as lesser or incomplete.

Yang Xiao Long was one of the first examples of a sapphic character I ever saw in animated media with her character journey in the show being an iconic part of my teenage years and current young adulthood. The loss of her arm after a traumatic event in the show's 3rd volume was one of the big shockers of the show that nobody saw coming. Since then the show has done an amazing job in exploring both the mental and physical effects of her losing a limb, gaining a prosthetic arm and the recovery journey. Her character also has a major arc regarding handling her PTSD from both this and her past most notably in the 5th and 6th volume. Her character also has a slow-burn romance with her teammate and fellow main character Blake Belladonna which is one of my fave romances ever (it has everything: canon soulmates, friends to lovers, sunshine x grump,battle couple etc..) that has recently became CANON BABIEE!!! There are MULTIPLE characters in RWBY with various disabilities that are handled well in the narrative but i would say Yangs definitely the top FAVE!

Eda Clawthorne-The Owl House

Qualifications:

She has a magical chronic disorder which has flare-ups, is mitigated by taking medication (potions), and has similar side effects to many real disorders such as fatigue, greying hair, and physical impairment (drains magic, a natural ability of *most witches). Unlike in other stories however, her condition is NOT ever completely cured. It does evolve and become more manageable over the course of the story, but she still experiences symptoms from it. Eda also loses one of her arms later in the story. She does get a replacement hook, but it is never shown whether she has a functional prosthetic or not. Most likely, she only has one fully functioning arm after this. As for being queer, she is in a relationship with a nonbinary person and is all but confirmed bisexual (has a secret box with the bi flag on it seriously why else would she have this). Also the owl house has a Lot of queer characters in it and I mean. just look at her. I would be surprised if she wasn't queer somehow.

Bisexual, and has a curse that affects her day to day life

Has canonically dated both men and a non-binary person. Her curse affects her ability to use magic (and at one point outright stops it), which is very important in witch life. Said curse also causes her body parts to fall off sometimes. Many have said her curse is like a metaphor for depression but really it's more like a magic version of a physical disability (although I wouldn't be surprised if she actually also had depression).

rin sat on the bench outside your apartment building, his posture straight, elbows resting lightly on his knees. the digital clock on his phone glowed 2:00 PM, but he didn't seem rushed, his gaze fixed calmly on the street ahead.

you spotted him as soon as you stepped outside, his figure unmistakable even from a distance. instead of calling out, you decided to have a little fun. walking toward him quietly, you stopped just behind the bench and reached out, touching his head.

rin flinched, his shoulders jumping slightly as he turned to look at you, startled.

"relax, it's just me," you said with a grin, stepping around the bench to face him.

"what was that for?" he muttered, brushing his hair as though to fix it.

"couldn't resist," you said with a shrug, tilting your head as you took in his ruffled expression. "you looked too serious just sitting here like that."

rin let out a soft huff and stood up. "you're late."

"it's 2:01," you said, glancing at your watch with a raised brow. "also, you ditched me for two hours last time."

rin shot you a look. "that's gonna be your argument forever, huh?"

you grinned. "yep, it's a good one."

he rolled his eyes, clearly not bothered, but a small smile tugged on his lips. "fine, fine. let's just go."

as you walked together toward the arcade, the buzz of excitement in the air grew louder. the streets were busy, filled with people and the sounds of city life, but you were caught up in the easy conversation with rin. everything felt effortless, like this was just how things were supposed to be.

suddenly, a bike whizzed past you at high speed, and before you could even react, rin grabbed your arm, pulling you toward him with surprising speed. you stumbled slightly, but he held you steady.

"careful," he muttered, his gaze still fixed on the bike speeding way.

you blinked up at him, surprised by the sudden pull. "thank you," you said, meeting his gaze. "how did you notice the bike but not me sneaking toward you? did you want me to do that?" you teased.

"you're lucky it wasn't worse," he replied, his hand still gripping your arm.

you gave him a smile. "such a gentleman. who would've thought the cold itoshi rin is such a cutie!" you said, watching him roll his eyes in response.

rin let out a small sigh, but didn't say anything as he turned to walk toward the arcade entrance.

rin's hand was still gripping your arm, and neither of you seemed to notice as you walked together toward the entrance. the bustling noise of the arcade grew louder with each step, but it wasn't the flashing lights or the games that caught your attention. it was the way his hand held yours, a slight warmth that made your heart skip a beat.

you glanced over at him, but he was staring straight ahead, his usual stoic expression in place. it almost felt like an accident - like he didn't even realize it, but you weren't about to bring it up. why would you destroy this moment?

instead, you kept walking in silence, your steps in sync, as if this was a normal, everyday occurrence. as if you were dating for almost two years now.

as you reached the entrance, rin finally let go of your arm to open the door. did he finally realize he was holding your arm the whole time?

the arcade's neon lights flashed in front of you. the sounds of beeping machines, the laughter of other players, and the occasional sound of coins clinking filled the air. you took a deep breath, the excitement of being here with rin making your heart race a little faster than usual.

rin glanced at you. "so, what do you want to do first?"

you didn't waste any time. your eyes immediately landed on a claw machine at the far end of the arcade, filled with a collection of plushies. one plush, in particular, caught your eye: a fluffy, grumpy-looking cat with big eyes. it was so cute, you couldn't resist.

"that one," you said, tugging on his sleeve. "we're getting this one."

rin glanced at the machine. "these things are scams, you know that right? they never work".

you shook your head, determined. "yeah? I'll show you."

you slipped a coin into the machine, grabbed the joystick, and carefully aimed the claw toward the plushie. the claw dropped and missed by a mile.

"oops," you said, trying again. this time, the claw barely even brushed the plush.

rin leaned against the machine, arms crossed, watching with a hint of amusement in his eyes. you tried again, and again, and again. after several failed attempts, you let out a frustrated sigh, slumping against the machine.

"okay, your turn," you grumbled, stepping aside.

rin smirked, nonchalantly stepping up to the machine. without even hesitating, he dropped a coin into the slot and moved the joystick with precise movements. the claw descended perfectly, grabbed the plushie, and brought it up to the chute in one smooth motion.

he held the plushie out to you. "told you it's a scam."

you stood there, pouting but unable to hide your admiration. "HOW DID YOU DO THAT, RINNIE??"

rin looked at you, unfazed. “it’s simple, really,” he said, as though he’d just completed some basic task. “you just need to know how to position the claw.”

you stared at the plushie, then at him, your mouth slightly agape. “you’re impossible,” you muttered, still in awe. “you make it look so easy.”

he shrugged, clearly enjoying the moment. “i told you it was a scam,” he repeated, but his voice softened just enough for you to catch the hint of pride. “you’ll get the hang of it.”

you crossed your arms, feigning annoyance. “yeah, well, you still have some weird, unspoken powers. there’s no way anyone can be that good on their first try.”

rin chuckled, a rare sound that made your heart skip a beat. “you’re just bad at it,” he teased, leaning back against the machine with the plushie in his hands.

you grinned and reached for the plush, taking it from him and cuddling it to your chest. “thanks for the plush, but i’ll still beat you next time.”

“we’ll see about that,” rin replied, his tone playful but still laced with that usual coolness.

you smiled to yourself, not minding at all that he was unbeatable at claw machines. being here with him, joking around, and seeing him like this—was enough for you.

the bright lights and sounds of the arcade faded as you and rin walked out, having spent a good while trying your luck at different games. you were both grinning, a rare moment of easy camaraderie between you.

“so, that was actually kind of fun,” you admitted, still smiling.

rin shot you a glance, a slight smirk tugging at his lips. “you didn’t seem so sure when we started.”

you shrugged playfully. “well, I didn’t expect you to be so good at the claw machine.”

“it’s not a skill, it’s just knowing how it works,” he replied, hands in his pockets as he stepped into the sunlight.

“yeah, yeah. just don’t get too cocky,” you teased, nudging him lightly with your elbow. “I still have a plushie that you won’t get.”

he raised an eyebrow. "I gave it to you though?"

you grinned mischievously, tapping the side of your head. “sure, you gave it to me, but I earned it.”

rin rolled his eyes, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “yeah, sure. keep telling yourself that.”

you both shared a quiet laugh as you continued walking, the sounds of the arcade fading behind you.

“so, what’s next?” he asked, glancing at you with an almost amused expression.

you shrugged nonchalantly. “ice cream?” you suggested, already heading in the direction of the nearby ice cream shop.

“ice cream sounds fine,” rin replied, his voice steady, but there was a slight glint in his eyes. “but no more challenges, okay?”

you shot him a teasing smile. “no promises.”

once you arrived at the shop, you both picked out your flavors. rin chose something classic, vanilla, while you decided to try something new—a bold choice that caught your eye.

after a couple of licks, you paused, your face contorting slightly in disgust. “what… what is this?” you muttered, scrunching your nose.

rin raised an eyebrow, looking at your ice cream with mild curiosity. “what’s wrong with it?”

you shook your head dramatically. “it tastes like ass,” you deadpanned.

he tried to hide his smirk, but failed. “you seriously chose that one?”

“i thought it would be good!” you exclaimed, throwing your hands up in frustration. “i was adventurous!”

rin looked at your distressed face, then at his own ice cream, before making a decision. without missing a beat, he swapped his cone with yours.

“you’re lucky I’m being nice,” he said, as you stood there stunned.

you blinked at him, then looked at the new flavor in your hand. “you’re a lifesaver, rin,” you said, feeling relief wash over you.

“yeah, yeah. just don’t pick something weird next time,” he muttered, a slight blush creeping up his neck.

you both continued walking, now with much more pleasant ice cream in hand, as the beauty of the sakura trees came into view. walking under the soft, pink blossoms, you couldn’t help but notice how serene everything felt.

“you look really beautiful under these trees,” rin said quietly, his voice unusually soft.

you blinked, surprised by his sudden compliment. your heart skipped a beat, and you tried to hide the blush that crept up your cheeks. “huh?" you managed to say, glancing at him.

"nothing," rin said, his gaze shifting ahead as he continued walking. the silence stretched between you, comfortable yet filled with an underlying tension.

after a few moments, you couldn’t help but smile to yourself, your heart still racing from his unexpected compliment. you glanced at him, catching his profile as he walked beside you.

“you look pretty too, rinnie,” you said softly, almost teasing but with a genuine warmth in your voice.

I finally watched Sonic 3!!!!! (IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE)

I had been holding back so I could talk without worrying about spoilers, but I think I can now comment on my general opinion of the movie.

There will be spoilers, so you have been warned!

I’ll admit that I found the first act a bit rushed. I understand that they had a lot of characters to “reintroduce” and new ones to add (especially Shadow), but I felt a bit lost with what was happening—it was really convenient how the script handled a lot of things just to get to the point.

For example: Shadow attacking in Japan with no real explanation, Rockwell quickly finding Sonic and the others. Even Commander Walters showed up just to explain what happened in the past, only to die unexpectedly right after. Even though he's not a particularly memorable character, I felt like his death didn’t carry the weight it should have, even for Team Sonic who witnessed it.

There was also the fact that a lot of what happened in the first act had already been revealed in the trailers and TV spots, which kind of deflated my excitement, knowing what was going to happen. But as I said, things were happening so fast that I couldn’t process all the information right away! XD

I have to say, I absolutely love the interactions between all the characters. The relationships and how they were developed felt so unique to me. I’ve always had the headcanon that Knuckles, Tails, and Sonic acted like siblings, and in the movies, I got to witness that in a meaningful and very loving way (shoutout to Tails saving Sonic and Knuckles protecting them, my boys <3).

One of my favorite scenes is definitely the argument between Knuckles and Sonic, as it really shows their maturity. It shows how much they are changing with each movie, which is so valuable to me because it demonstrates that the characters are really learning from their experiences. In a franchise, this deepens their moral journey and enriches who they are — it’s truly wonderful.

Speaking of siblings, I can’t not talk about Maria and Shadow. Right from the beginning, I could already feel the heartache hearing Live and Learn in an acoustic version. I think for fans who know how iconic this song is for the franchise, the idea that MARIA COULD HAVE BEEN THE ORIGINAL COMPOSER of it (at least in the SCU) hits so hard.

The narrative of Shadow talking about Maria always moved me, and the film managed to emphasize what she meant to Shadow in such a sweet way. Seeing the scene where Shadow recalls the day of the accident and then carrying the Eclipse Cannon gave me chills.

The parallels between Sonic/Shadow and Tom/Maria were something I was really looking forward to! The franchise often makes these types of comparisons between characters, not just in the games but also in the movies. As I mentioned before, I think this makes everything richer — it gives you a new perspective and helps you understand the complexity of characters by revisiting the "same memory" through a different person. I love when they do that!

ABOUT THE FIGHT SCENES, ALL OF THEM. I was breathless! I have to confess I was cursing A LOT during the third act. It was so epic, something you wouldn’t even think you'd see! Super Form battles were such a great concept for the situation, seeing Sonic get so angry really fed my fan dream of seeing him want to destroy everything XDD. Shadow literally crushed him, both physically and mentally. He REALLY IS THE STAR of this movie. The whole year was his. And he delivered in every possible media!

((I screamed so much when they did the pose, Live and Learn, it was so epic.))

Jim Carrey’s performance is always amazing. I’m still stunned at how naturally Gerald and Eggman felt together. It really seemed like a completely different actor, and that’s insane! I think the only thing I wish we’d seen more of was scenes between Gerald and Maria in the past, but who knows, maybe they’re planning something for a "Shadow solo spin-off."

The light shines, even when the star dies. – I was already emotionally losing it inside, there were just so many things to process.

AND THE POST-CREDITS SCENE HAUSFHSAIFHGVSNUHGUSAHGUSAH

OK OK I’M >TOTALLY< NORMAL ABOUT MY BABIES

Literally my two FAVORITES showed up. METAL WILL BE THE MAIN VILLAIN, I have so many theories and DEFINITELY it will be an adaptation of Heroes and CD. I CAN'T WAIT to see him in action, the whole Artificial vs. Natural thing is something that really resonates with me in the rivalry between him and Sonic.

She’s so cool, she appeared in SUCH A UNIQUE way, the cracked moon in the background, revealing herself by taking off the hood... I can’t wait to see her in 2027... I need it so much aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

I definitely loved the movie a lot. I still want to rewatch it in English since I saw it dubbed in my language, but I think I’d give it an 8.5/10 or 9/10! YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE!! I’m still shaking remembering the action scene sahufzahghaghs

He discovered you were a journalist, and in Gotham, that was practically a death sentence.

Don’t worry, Jason followed you everywhere and eliminated some of the people who were also trying to kill you.

He also gave you gifts he knew you would like; he sent anonymous messages about events that hadn't gone public yet, even sent you some photos for your blog, and even large floral arrangements.

Although he had a lot of work, he couldn’t stop watching his news segment. He liked watching you talk about a case, he loved how you looked so smart, so confident, and with those dresses that highlighted your lovely curves.

He was a huge fan of your work, loved the way you wrote, and couldn't wait for the next update on your weekly blog, which led him, out of love, to hack your computer and gain access to everything—even if you noticed.

Still, nothing compared to the pain he felt when he found out you were writing a blog about him and that you were planning to present it on the news. He felt betrayed. After everything he had done for you, how could you do this to him? He just wanted to protect you, but you betrayed him.

And you will pay for that.

He slammed his laptop aside, rising from the chair and pacing back and forth in his hideout. His mind was a whirlwind. He had protected you, given you everything, even things he had never given anyone else. He felt vulnerable with you, and you had stabbed him in the back.

—“How could you do this to me?”— he murmured, clenching his fists.

He knew he needed answers, needed to confront you. But more than that, he needed you to understand what you had done, what you meant to him, and why your actions were unacceptable.

That night, while you were working on your blog at home, you received an anonymous message. The sender had been your constant source of exclusives, so you didn’t suspect anything when you opened it. But this time, the message was different.

A chill ran down your spine. You looked around your apartment, feeling like someone was watching you. You tried to focus on your work, but the fear was palpable. You closed your laptop and decided it was better to go to bed early.

That very night, Jason was in your apartment. He had entered effortlessly, using the skills he had learned to open your lock. He watched you sleep, his dark figure blending into the shadows of the room. His gaze was fixed on you, a mix of adoration and anger.

He quietly walked to your desk, looking at the notes and drafts on your laptop. He wanted to destroy it, erase all traces of what you had written. But he couldn’t do it without confronting you first. He wanted to hear from your lips why you had betrayed him.

You woke with a start when you felt a hand on your mouth. Opening your eyes, you saw him. Red Hood was there, standing in front of you, his intimidating yet familiar figure. You tried to scream, but his hand firmly covered your mouth.

—“You’re not going to scream. I just want to talk,”— he said in a calm but tense voice. Slowly, he removed his hand, giving you space to breathe.

—“Who are you? What are you doing here?”— you asked, your heart racing, although something inside you already knew.

—“Isn’t it obvious?”— he said as he took off his mask, revealing his face. —“I’m the subject of your blog. I’m the man who’s been protecting you from day one.”—

Your mind took a moment to process it. —“You...”— The words caught in your throat. You had researched so much about Red Hood, but you never imagined he’d be this close to you now.

—“Why did you do this?”— he asked, his voice heavy with pain. —“After everything I’ve done for you, why did you betray me?”—

—“I don’t know what you mean...”—

—“You’ll understand, don’t worry, princess.”—

—“I’ll delete it if that’s what you want,”— you whispered, but your words only seemed to fuel his fury.

Jason stepped closer, leaning over you. —“No, you didn’t. But I did because I love you. And now you’ll understand what that love means.”— His gaze was intense, dangerous.

You had no escape. And at that moment, you understood that things would never be the same.

He tried to grab you, but with a swift move, you covered his face with the blankets, using the confusion to run.

You ran. His footsteps echoed behind you. The door was near. Not close enough. You felt the tug on your hair.

—“We’ll be together, together forever,”— he spoke as he slammed your head against the wall.

—“I love you... and we’ll be together forever,”— he spoke with such tenderness, then removed his red helmet and kissed your bloodied and semi-conscious face. Everything looked blurry.

His smile was sweet and disturbing, a smile that promised you would never escape. It was the last thing you saw before you passed out.

first of all i'm just going to plug myself because why not. i have 78 swan queen works up - mostly oneshots, a couple longfics, including the fic i'm currently writing, change with the seasons. a lot of my fics are older (for example my 52 weeks of swan queen series was written in 2015) and i was a teenager when i wrote them, but i still find a lot of joy in them!!

now for the rest of the recs, i'm going to organize them as best i can into a few categories. also, a lot of these recs will be a bit older as i've been away from the fandom for a while, and am only just now coming back again. this is an open question if anyone else has recommendations to add in the reblogs!!!

satin town by @coalitiongirl is probably my all time favorite fanfic, period. everything she's written for the fandom is incredible, but this one has always stuck with me. the dynamic between emma and regina (who is in full on evil queen mode) is just DELICIOUS and i love how she worked henry into the story. an absolute must as far as i'm concerned. PLUS she has a whole NOVEL out now, so go support that if you like the fic!!!!

the secret's in the telling by @the-pyrophoric-one is another classic in the fandom, and for good reason. the characterization is so spot on, and i absolutely love the arc of this story. the chapters are suuuuuper long though so it's a time investment!!

one fine star away by @bytherosebushlaughing is another au that gets a little meta, but it's sooooo much fun. in this fic, once upon a time is a tv show that regina, emma, and the others starred in. 20 some years later, the cast is reuniting, and the reunion is being covered by none other than one henry mills. it's such a clever fic, and i absolutely love it so far!!

the thing is, arthur finds more stories in camelot’s library and brings them up to his room to read them aloud to merlin under the guise of completing his studies but really he just wants to watch as merlin’s eyes gleam when he understands whats happening and listen to him ramble on and on about them bc he’s gay. the stories stick with merlin though and he realizes that they’re cautionary tales, that the heroes who were told too much of their future doomed themself to fulfill them - that them fighting the prophecies led to their completion. merlin takes it to heart and gives a big “fuck you” to kilgharrah before forging his own fate and helping morgana with her magic and handing out an olive branch to mordred and now everyone can live happily and peacefully in an albion teeming with magic.
