You wake up early the next morning feeling clumsy with exhaustion, eyes fluttering and focusing on the alarm clock. There’s still a few minutes before it’s supposed to go off, so you lie on your side and just relax, smiling to yourself when your hearing tunes and sharpens to Javi’s purring snore. You covertly glance over your shoulder and see he’s sprawled out on his stomach, hogging most of the bed, which has relegated you to hug the edge of your side of the mattress. His broad, smooth tanned back rises and falls with his calm, deep breathing. Fuzzily, you stretch and sit up slightly, stifling your yawn before your eyes focus more and finally notice the glass of water tucked on a coaster on the nightstand next to you.

Smiling, you realize Javi must’ve gotten up during the night and gone to quench his thirst before setting a glass aside for you, just in case. You take it and drink greedily from it, feeling quite parched after all of the salacious indulgences of the night before. Just as you let out a contented sigh and set the empty glass aside, the alarm goes off. Javi begins to stir, so you quickly turn the blaring off and shift to sit at the side of the bed so you can stretch out your back.

So I'm a horror movie connoisseur (been since I was old enough to talk) and I gotta say, Smile is one of the horror movies in recent years that truly impressed me with the novelty and innovative tropes it created, while keeping the suspense and terror element going into a sequel. I finally watched Smile 2, and was beyond impressed by how solid it was. But even more so by the music Naomi Scott made for it. Seriously, her performance as Skye Riley was awesome. Also, the songs she made as Skye are fucking bangers! Like serious bops that eclipse actual pop songs out here in 2024. I can't get 'em out of my head, so figured I'd post them to create a chain a'la The Smile Entity's curse chain 🤣

Chapter 20: Compromise

You’d been on cloud nine after your trip. The visits to the new field offices went great, and you were very happy with the competent, proactive staff that were running each, so by the time you arrived for the Department of State conference and security showcase in New York, you’d been feeling confident about things to come. It ended up being a fantastic opportunity where you’d networked and made great contacts, as well as secured a promising system for personal storage of network data – making the Bogotá Embassy one of the first in the world to have it.

So, finding out the love of your life, the infuriating hijueputa malparido that he is, came back unannounced like a tempestuous storm out of nowhere? Well, needless to say, you feel surly and wrathful, having to swallow every destructive impulse in your marrow in order to not run up to his office and beat the shit out of him. But then your pining thoughts betray you – reminding you that he had called to let you know he was back, and the hesitantly hopeful timber of his baritone hums in your mind the entire morning. It manages to cool your ire for now, but you still can’t believe that he'd already bedded a young and eager member of his own staff, and it keeps your anger on a low simmer. A big part of you is still reeling from the surprising developments, though.

Ahh, yes! She is definitely gorgeous and a total Querida vibe. I too always wanted more info about Helena. Lord knows the other two made me mad as a fellow Latina lol Especially Elisa, who was the most asinine and infuriating character in Narcos, I think.

So my question (finally sorry) is I’m at the end of chapter 12 and I was wondering if you have a time frame for series, like rough dates things happen and how long have they been in each others lives by now? What timeline are you setting it on? Ah, you need to share what your Querida faceclaim/inspo is! I've always been curious what others imagine when reading her especially since it's not a conventional reader insert 😅

As for the timeline? It's always been tough since the canon events of the series are inspired by true events in history, albeit loosely when it comes to adhering to the chronology said events transpired in. Narcos plays fast and loose with dates of certain events, so I've tried to keep vague about referencing actual years or dates. However I do weave in key moments from all the episodes in the series that can be used as a milestone for where they currently are in the overall Narcos series storyline. So for example, Chapters 12 and 13 reference events that play out in Episodes 8: La Gran Mentira and 9: La Catedral of season 1.

Regarding how long Javi and Querida have been involved up to the point of Chapter 12? I think Chapter 1 happens many months before the start of Narcos. Steve isn't even in-country yet. They officially meet at a Fourth of July shindig at the embassy, and the next time they run into each other in Chapter 2, Steve is already his partner and Javi is navigating that. If we adhere to the actual historic timeline of events, they've been on and off for a couple of years. But the way the series plays the events out, everything in season 1 is roughly over the course of a year. This is why I tend to lean into the pacing of the Narcos series than reference actual dates and years of events depicted in the series.

I hope this long-ass explanation makes sense and doesn't ruin the mystique for you 😅

The surgery went well, luckily, and I was fortunate enough for family to come and help me after I was discharged. While we don't live close by, you can come commiserate here or in messenger whenever, my friend! 💖

Chapter 3: Solterita

Javier proves to be passionate and insatiable, both things you are riveted by and taken with, especially after he keeps you enraptured in your bed for hours while the storm rages on late into the night.

He’s also ravenous, and not just in bed.

When you’re not fooling around, he’s eating you out of house and home, puckishly swigging the last of your beer while he lounges next to you in bed, eyes twinkling at you.

You’re not even mad. If anything you’re a bit embarrassed to only have dregs in the fridge, beer and junk food your meager offerings. You both share a Solterita, having cajoled Javi to try it when he admitted to never having the treat. His rueful smile when he hums in delight is too damned cute, and you have to remind yourself that you cannot be smitten with him. Of course you tell that part of you to shut up and just bask in the moment, especially when he puts his arm around you and lets you relax while you idly chat.

I knew it! As soon as I saw this BTS photo, and how painstakingly they obfuscated the soldier helping Lucilla in the flashback scene, I knew it was a young Acacius.

While I understand why it was ultimately edited down for the theatrical version, I think it would've been epic for Lucius to have remembered Acacius was both his savior from the dangers of Rome - helping spirit him away after the deaths of Maximus and Commodus - and the man responsible for destroying his life before dragging him back to Rome. It would've been even MORE poetic 😭

Welp, only one thing to do about it now.
