The Forest (2016) is a horror movie about a young woman, named Sara Price, who is on the search for Jess, her twin sister, in the Japanese Aokigahara forest. This forest isn’t just any forest, this one, in particular, has a reputation for suicide. It is said to be home to the yūrei, which are the ghosts of the dead in Japanese mythology. Sara travels to Japan with her mind set on going through the forest to find Jess. The locals warn her of it, telling her to “stay on the path,” but she doesn’t let their warnings get in her way. She finds a man named Aidan, and his friend Michi, who regularly walks through Aokigahara in search of bodies, to guide her through the forest. Throughout the journey, they had to get off the path, which caused her to experience hallucinations, making her doubt herself and her own guide. You only get to see her perspective of the story, but since she is an unreliable narrator, it makes you think about whether anything you saw was true or not.
I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. At first, I didn’t think it would be great, considering it had a somewhat rough start and was predictable. Throughout the movie, I started to like it more and more. I didn’t know what events were actually happening and what was just an illusion, I loved the games it made my brain play. If I’m being honest, I still don’t know if there was a bad guy and I love that.
Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone who isn’t a big horror fan, but still likes an occasional scare. I would rate this movie a 3/5. It was good, but not something that I would go out of my way to watch again

The Paris Olympics insisting that athletes compete in the Seine is so absurd it feels like something Terry Pratchett would want to make fun of. Like can you imagine him writing a Discworld story about a mad Ankh-Moorpark city official deciding to put on some ancient extravagant game, creating havoc in the city by bringing in all these foreigners to compete, and insisting the Ankh river, which is so filthy it's basically solid, is perfectly fine to swim in, because that's what they did in ancient times so that's how they're going to do it now. I feel like it would be a Night's Watch story about the people hired to clean the river and all the friends and horrors they discover along the way.
Good luck to all the athletes swimming in the poop water.

Whereabouts do you live, roughly speaking, and what drew you to that place in particular?
I'm in Michigan, and that's as specifically as I will answer that question! We have really lethal lakes.

If that doesn't have potential for some fairytale nonsense, I don't know what does.

i need you all to understand how absolutely fucking monumental beating someone by SEVENTEEN seconds in a swim race is. normally, in olympic swimming, all the swimmers finish within the same few seconds. notice how in the event replay, all the other swimmers are roughly in a line during the race… (admittedly, swimmers tend to finish further apart from each other in longer distance races, but not by that much.) people spend months, years of their lives doing brutal training just trying to one-up other swimmers by a single second, because that can mean a win. every hundredth of a second matters.
and then. imagine being ledecky and finishing your olympic race, sitting and waiting on second place to arrive for seventeen entire seconds.
