Sam stared back at him, his eyes as big as saucers. "Who would believe me? I don't even think I believe me."

"Trust me," Blaine said gravely, "plenty of people around here would believe you, and that wouldn't end well. For anyone. It's not just me."

Sam got out of his chair. "Wait, there are others? Like, here? In Lima?"

Reluctantly, Blaine nodded. He knew shouldn't be telling him any of this. It was too much of a risk. He should compel him now, like Mr Schue told him to.

But then he caught a glimpse of Sam's face. He was grinning from ear-to-ear as he sank back into the chair and shook his head. He looked up at him.

"This is so cool."

"It's really not," Blaine tried to protest.

"Dude, you're a freaking vampire!" He glanced around them, his face taking on a more serious look as Blaine motioned for him to keep his voice down. "Sorry. It's just... I don't understand. You're this awesome, supernatural being with awesome powers. You're like a superhero."

Every disadvantage and negative side to it rolled right back down Blaine's throat. His mouth quirked and Sam's grin widened.

"I guess, in a way..." he said, his brow furrowing. "Wait, you like superheroes?"

"Are you kidding? I love them," Sam said with barely contained excitement but, to his credit, he managed to keep control of his volume. His eyes grew impossibly wider and he was out of his chair again, standing in front of him. "Could I be your human sidekick?!"

The answer to that question should, undoubtedly, be a resounding no. Letting him keep his memories was bad enough. But actually involving him in any of it? Mr Schue would never let it slide.

He opened his mouth to shoot him down, but... he just couldn't bring himself to do it. The truth was, it was a pretty lonely existence. He'd only been a vampire for two years, but he barely had anyone to talk to anymore. His parents didn't want to know him. It was better they forgot about him entirely and went on pretending he had actually died that night.

Even his brother was better off like that.

Sure, he had a few friends at Dalton, and they knew what it was like, but... he was still really lonely. They had all gotten used to in their own ways, but he never could. Mr Schue was always telling him he couldn't have human blood because of the ripper gene, so he couldn't exactly tag along with David and Jeff when would sneak out.

He never even talked to Kurt about it because he thought it might freak him out too much, with all the history between witches and vampires, and now he wasn't even there anymore anyway.

He felt completely alone, even in his own world.

But here was Sam, looking at him like he was the coolest person he had ever met. Asking to be his friend. He wasn't afraid of him or what he might do, not like everyone back at Dalton or Mr Schue.

"I'm sorry." He sighed as Sam's face fell. "It's too dangerous. I need to make you forget all of this."

Sam pressed his lips together and nodded. "Can I just ask one thing? Don't take everything away."

Blaine opened his mouth, already shaking his head, but Sam lifted his eyes to him, freezing him to the spot with his next words.

"Leave the part where we met today."

Sam took a deep breath and nodded one more time, letting him know he was ready, even if he wasn't really. And he wasn't the only one.

He couldn't do it. He couldn't make him forget.

Worse than that: he didn't want to.

Waaaiiitt hold on i wasn't expecting sss class suicide hunter to be actually good????? It has a shitty name like the million empty rip off light novels and manhwas but it's...so good????????? How?????

I just started binging it today but it's so compelling. It has themes and they're discussed from different angles and it tells stories that matter and the mc actually changes so much throughout the story.

As im writing this im at ch 78 of the manhwa and im just. Floored. Holy shit. I assume there's a lot more in store for me moving forward but goddamn?????? It's so touching, so moving and so cool also. Im impressed. Im amazed. People should be talking more about this wth!!!!

Sometimes I think... What if Willow was not a canon character? What if she appeared only in some fanfic on AO3, how people would feel about her?

I mean, she has pattern of standard Mary Sue from some fan fiction. Lemme explain.

Firstly, she is strong. Even stronger than Emperor's Coven scouts, who've been, I'm reminding, harshly trained for years and have a lot of experience. But Willow just beats them like it's nothing for her.

Meanwhile, there is no clear reason for her to be so strong. All creator says is «she is talented and trains a lot», but... Willow has started training after the Grugby episode from season 1. That means she's been training only for two or one month. I'm not an expert but I think you can't get so much strength by that little time.

Well, okay, we can assume that Willow started doing Flyer Derby specifically after the Grugby episode. Maybe she was training even before that, but... It's still a shitty argument. I have some friends who've been training for many years and I can say they can't defeat a trained soldier. After all, a soldier knows special techniques and special fight skills. Scouts in EC can use any kind of magic, so they MUST learn every of nine tracks magic. So, how do you think, can a schoolgirl-plant-witch defeat a trained soldier with an experience.

Secondly, Hunter's character after meeting Willow. Hunter was positioned (before «Any sports in a storm») as a goofy, strong, confident person, but then we know him as a traumatized, apathetic and lost character who needs someone to help him to get out from toxic influence of his «uncle».

But what he's becomed after meeting Willow? He became a poor little boy who needs hugs and comfort 🥺🥺🥺. After joining the Hexsquad Hunter lost most of his power, he sometimes becomes a damsel in distress so Willow can save her little meow meow.

Please, separate a traumatize character who needs help and spirit mentor from a poor little thing who need comfort. Hunter is not the first thing. He is the second.

I know, this is kinda not Willow's problem as a character, but just imagine if all episodes after ASIAS were just a fanfic. How would you feel if a strong and mean character (Hunter) became a weakling who needs help from his girlboss?

Thirdly, cliche. I don't think Willow's story is bad, but I must admit it's kinda unoriginal. She has a standard Y/N storyline. «Poor girl was bullied, but then she discovered her true power and became stronger than her bullies». Where have we seen that? Well, practically in every fanfic.

What do we have in result?

Willow is somehow stronger that trained soldiers.

A strong and complex character became a total mess and crybaby because of interactions with her.

She has a quiet standard backstory.

I'm pretty sure: if Park was a fan character she would've been hated by everyone. We would've seen a lot of angry posts about little girls spoiling canon character's personality for their own fantasies.

But why the canon character with such traits is considered as something good?

UPD: It gets more sad for me, because I read fanfics and have my own TOH fan characters. I saw a lot of good, fleshed out and deep OC, but they was branded as Mary Sues because they was smart and powerful. Must specify, but all, these powers were explained, so characters wasn't skilled out of nowhere. I'm trying to make my own characters as realistic as I can. I paranoidly make a lot of flaws to my OCs so they can't become Sues. But then I see canon TOH characters and think: does it worth it? Why am I trying if I know that all of the canons are overpowered without any explanation?

Chapter 1

"That baby cop, he liked you." 

Dean Winchester slammed the door of the impala closed and reached to start her, his jaw tense and lips slightly drawn as he turned the key. 

Castiel tilted his head towards the hunter from his passenger seat, a little lost. "I'm sorry, what?" He shifted a little, adjusting his coat as Dean put the car in reverse, voice blunt but unassuming.

They'd just figured out that the Gorgon couldn't sense Castiel and Jack with his eyeball premonitions, for lack of a better description (most likely because they weren't human) So Cas and Jack would have to lead the attack when they tracked down the gorgon again. Whatever Dean had said made no sense to the angel. 

Cas' voice was that consistent gruff lull and his hair was stuck up at a little part in the back. Dean practiced restraint for the instinct to reach out and smooth it. 

"Mr. Twunk over there," He retorted, throwing a half hazard gesture towards the crime scene. Cas squinted through the windshield and saw a vaguely familiar blond head of hair popping out of a patrol car. The young officer they had spoken to earlier.

"Probably fresh out of academy too." Dean added, his tone short and irritated as he intrigued Cas' full attention, who furrowed his brows and leaned up in his seat.

"Oh, come on," Dean shot Cas a look, "he totally creamed his pants when you pulled the whole 'deep commanding voice thing', he went stiff as a board, don't tell me you didn't notice." He let a soft huff out of the corner of his mouth, his pink lips upturned in a small smirk, though still betrayed by his wound-tight words as he glanced from the road to Castiel. 

"I was more focused on the demi god and his victims, Dean." Castiel explained slowly. 

"Yeah, sure, not the young guy you got all hot and bothered." 

Cas squinted at Dean suspiciously, "Is this merely about your dislike for police officers, Dean? Or is it something else?" He questioned.

Dean forced out a laugh, "It's not anything Cas, just an observation." 

"That seems... untrue."

"Yeah." Dean chided, "And what are you gonna do about it?" 

Castiel's patience had run thin. "Dean..." he tested firmly. 

A blush crept up behind Dean's collar and he gripped onto baby's steering wheel, adjusting his seating, "I just didn't like the way he looked at you, okay, sue me." He threw his hands up for a breif moment before returning them to the sleek black wheel.

Cas titled his head, the line of his jaw catching a fragment of the afternoon sun as they passed by storefronts with big glass windows. "How did he look at me?" 

"Like he wanted you to bend him over and fuck him into next week." 

"Like how you look at me." 

Cas' voice was wet gravel. 

Dean halted on the brakes, jolting them forward, scarlet blush deepening, "What, no! You.. you know that's not- and before you say a word about what we did that one time in lebanon that was different okay! I don't gawk at you all the time Cas."  

"Different how?" Cas challenged. 

The trafic light turned green and a car behind them honked impatiently, "Okay, geez," Dean muttered as they started moving. "Because... I was super horny and hadn't seen you in what, four months?" he continued, "And you're my best friend dude and you were looking particularly moody that day and yeah, maybe I'm just jealous and a little bitch." He sighed, defeated. 

Cas let out a low chuckle. 

"Oh shut up you smug fuck," Dean reached out and shoved a hand over Castiels face, his own now a particular shade of pink. 

Cas cleared his throat and picked up a level tone as Dean's hand fell away, "You know you can always ask to..."

"Oh yeah, I know," Dean interjected, "Just check in between hunts and saving the world and having Micheal locked up in my head and raising our kid to be like 'oh Cas,' I miss the feel of my skin against yours and how you make me act like a dumb teenager and that night in the cowboy hotel was the best of my life and I can't get you off my mind every time you leave. I got Sammy breathing down my neck constantly cause he knows and just wants to rub it in my face but I won't say anything because I refuse to talk about feelings with a sasquatch or like you know ever and I-." Dean's words started out sarcastic and ended with a desperate pout and Cas gave him a kind look, reaching to rest his hand gingerly on Dean’s thigh as the hunter let out a heavy exhale.  

Cas knew life was never easy, for any of them, but Dean was the most important thing to him, no matter how closed off or stubborn he could be. 

"So, you got jealous when a man looked at me with sexual intentions?"

"Cas, you're making me sound like a little bitch again." Dean huffed, the peachy blush crowding against his freckles a complete contrast with his deep manly tone and set, sloping jawline. 

"My apologies, Dean." Cas stated, his eyes soft, "I wanted to know what was going on, and that only works when you tell me." 

"I know, I know." Dean exhaled, "You know I'm not good at this stuff Cas, but I have missed you.. All this running around.. 'drives me crazy sometimes." Dean nodded his head down and looked up at the road through his eyelashes.

Cas silently noticed how after all these years Dean still seemed to physically shrink in on himself a little, anytime he showed vulnerability. Or rather, he wondered with disdain, who exactly had taught him this trait. The only time he seemed to release himself from those instincts is when he let Castiel have him in bed. And oh, how beautiful Dean was then. Bare and trembling under his hands. Never trying to be smaller.

"I've missed you too, Dean." He comforted, knowing no words could come to match how he felt being so often pulled from the man. He looked out the passenger window, watching the landscape slide by, "You know-" he thought aloud, an idea still churning in his mind, "Rowena still needs time to prepare the tracking spell.." He lowered his voice and gave Dean's thigh a gentle squeeze. 

Dean swallowed and tensed his hands around the steering wheel, seeming much more determined to get to where they were going.

The show is knee deep now. Its shown what it wanted to be shown that doesn't interfere / sets up with the other shows.

The Bad Batch are going to die.

If they don't, I'll be fucking shocked. Except I won't.

They've already Killed Tech beyond Story revival, Killed Echo's Buildup to Anything (Now he's a literal shock-trooper in narration; only appears to do a few things, then leaves without any character), killed Hunter's character in Ep1, and Crosshair's development means he's on the same chopping block as Tech.

... They've tried like hell to De-Set up TCWs and TCWs branched stories in nearly every decision they've made, and frankly, I don't view it as "Oh rising to the empire--look how they treat clones", I view as more as "We didn't bother viewing TCWs beyond S7 so we're going to ignore the vast majority of it to have wangst--BUT LOOK AT OUR SPECIAL OC!"

I am prepared for both. Death would be the reasonable writing choice--but they haven't done reasonable since show start.

These are the same folk who said "Oh Crosshair's chip was removed!"... off Screen, and on Xitter no less.

New Book Idea

I'm looking for feedback- because I really like writing fan fiction and I kind of been putting this idea off because I don't know how to feel about it. I'm gonna be straight up- the female character is kind of like a Mary Sue- BUT, WAIT, WAITTTT, HEARRRR ME OUT BEFORE YOU LEAVE- She does have like trauma but she is definitely THAT mom character. I hate that Star wars never gives happy endings and my heart can't take anymore heartbreak.

THIS BOOK IS TOTALLY INSPIRED BY THE EPIC MUSICIAL (The deeper meanings) AND KAL KHRANG NUNG (Prang Prangthip/Once Upon A Time)

A summary of the book would be :

Character is searching for her two sisters since they were taken by Bounty Hunters, they were all sith's but vow to no one other than themselves but without any army or help in general- Character who has always been on the fence of neither sith or Jedi-- decides to do the unthinkable and go to the Jedi saying she will give up information about the Separatist, if they help find her sisters. Causing Anakin + Obi Wan (Before Ahsoka leaves the Jedi order) to help her. All is fate from there. Later down the line then takes Anakin's kids in instead and letting her secret location be a safe haven.

This would be During Clone Wars/After Order 66 - As always MATURE Content and LOTS OF ANGST (Like A LOT).

Quick wip of Daystalker. I am yeeting this at y'all at the speed of sound.

Unfortunately work has kicked my ass not even a day after my holiday but I at least wanted to get this guy's colours down before the deadline.

Once again, introducing Daystalker! An ancient demigod Champion of the hunt, he is a mythical figure among his kind and currently resides on the Far Side with his partner Honeytongue and the pride of mostly adopted kids they share.

It's been so much fun incorporating more of @ashe-alter's dawnrunner lore into this guy as it's developed, and I'm so pleased with how this guy has turned out. He went from an egotistical trophy-hunting antagonist to a fluffy old Dad who, to quote Grimm, is akin to a 'grumpy Mufasa'. XD

More story under the cut because this got a bit long.

Daystalker is ancient. Thousands of years old thanks to the immortality granted to him by the giants who ascended him into a Champion. He's fiercely protective of his children and absolutely adores his partner to pieces. As a demigod though, he's also taken up the duty of protecting the rest of his kind, going so far as to commit the ultimate taboo among Dawnrunners: killing other dawnrunners. It's never without cause though; he only targets those who kill their own kind without care for the consequence, doing it to protect the rest. On rare occasions, it is a genuine act of mercy. For each kill, he carves a notch into his horns and makes sure to remember the name of each one. He takes no joy in this part of his life.

As a demigod, he's gained a number of supernatural abilities that aid him in his duties, including the following:

Invisibility - what it says on the tin

Silent Step - should he choose, Daystalker can move in total silence. This combined with his camouflage abilities have lead to playing numerous tricks on people

Thunderthroat - a common ability for Champions, Daystalker has a roar that can echo between Terras and bolster his fellow hunters. He also has a banshee screech that instills fear in prey and enemies

Shapeshifting - Daystalker can transform into a beastly chimera, an animalistic form of the Dawnrunner species

Keen Senses - Daystalker has night vision, a sense of hearing that can pick up sounds across Terras, a sense of smell that can track something even if it flies, and can sense vibrations.

Synthesia - Smells register as colour tracks in Daystalker’s sight should he so choose

Walking on Sunshine - (sue me) most Champions get wings to help them travel between terras, however Daystalker is able to create platforms of solid sunlight that he can use to walk from Terra to Terra. If he makes them big enough, he can also transport other people on them.

Endless Stamina - This man can run for days without tiring. The ultimate pursuit predator.

Strength of Many - Proportionately, Dawnrunners are already incredibly strong compared to most other races. Daystalker has that strength multiplied by ten

Power of the Sun - Is at his strongest during daylight hours. He’s solar-powered. Certain celestial events such as eclipses though, sap his strength

Honestly though the more I see about Popular Red Dead Theories (i.e. "Abigail was a second rat/Molly was the rat all along/Molly/Karen was pregnant" or otherwise critical opinions of the women "Mary used Arthur/Sadie is a Mary Sue/Abigail nags too much/Molly is annoying" it reminds me of aall the similar things that have ever been said about Westworld characters and the double standards that exist there too.

So to start with, there's a double standard that results in a lot of pushback when it involves something like a love interest asking their lover to change for them or run away with them. Abigail and Mary in Red Dead beg John and Arthur respectively to leave their outlaw ways behind and just live a normal, honest life and they receive the brunt of criticism for having set unrealistic expectations for their men.

BUT in Westworld, Teddy is the one who dreams of asking Dolores to run away with him. He asks her to leave their pasts behind and live a domestic life together, carve out a tiny piece of the park for themselves. Nevermind that hundreds of heavily armed enemies are on their way to slaughter every host they find, "just come play cowboys and indians with me forever Dolores I know it's the last thing you want when there's an entire world out there you're not allowed to even see but I love you... Conditionally."

I suspect that because Teddy is a man - or more accurately, a robot designed to look and act like a man in every meaningful way to the point that there is functionally no difference - he got a lot less criticism about this than if you were to reverse the roles. If it was Dolores begging Teddy to quit his job as a bounty hunter I would be highly disappointed but not at all surprised if people then started calling her a nag about it and saying shit like 'well don't fall in love with a bounty hunter if you don't like what they do to put food on the table'

People will also consistently criticize and call Dolores a bitch for changing Teddy's code, but it was apparently totally fine when Arnold merged Dolores with a different character and programmed her to kill him. Likewise, they'll often call Dolores a bitch Again and blame her for manipulating Caleb and not telling him everything she knows, but. I guess it's fine that Serac/Rehoboam & Solomon systemically manipulated Caleb into capturing or killing people, and manipulated him into killing his best friend when the system decided both of them were no longer useful to its cause, and manipulated the most boring and unengaging existence Caleb could've possibly lived to keep him compliant and too shut down to want to fight back. Serac's a dick, but point this out and suddenly a bunch of people would go "wellll maybe he had a point though."

And for another common criticism, both Maeve and Dolores get hit with the Mary Sue comment often, but it happens to Maeve more frequently AND she also gets called annoying for the crime of...idk, missing her daughter? And right there is another double standard. Maeve tried to let go and move on, convince herself that the host playing the role of her daughter is someone she has no attachment to and that it wasn't real, but she couldn't. She remembers and she loves and protects that little girl as if she was real, because to Maeve, she is!

In contrast, Bernard has memories of Arnold's son Charlie and Hybrid Caleb has memories of Frankie, but these men have never even met these children who are always on their mind. There is rarely ever any critique that dives into Bernard chasing after his love of a son who hasn't existed for a very long time. As for Hybrid Caleb...

I don't know, it's like for all the hemming and hawing people do about "oh but the hosts aren't real and they never have been that's the thing" ...by the time they kill Caleb off and reintroduce fidelity testing (which still hasn't quite worked out all the bugs in the program by then) almost everyone seems okay with accepting that for all intents and purposes, Hybrid Caleb is still Caleb. He never even met Frankie before she came to rescue him, but he has all these memories of her and they motivate him to survive until he physically can't go on anymore. He never gets called annoying for this. Just Maeve. Only ever Maeve. I wonder why that is?

Sy Mahariel

2. What is your real name?

That is my real name. Sy is short for Sylaira, if you wish to be pedantic. Most simply call me Grey Warden, which suits me just fine.

3. Do you know why you were called that?

I'm called Grey Warden because that's what I am. …Oh, you meant the name?

My parents died before I had the chance to ask them. Ashalle told me once that my mother honored Sylaise; I assume that's why. Our names are similar, though I'm not exactly the best disciple of the Hearthkeeper.

4. Single or taken?

Taken for granted, primarily. Next question.

5. Have any abilities or powers?

I am a Dalish hunter. What does that tell you?

…Oh, all right. We - the hunters, that is - are proficient with longbows, shortbows, light blades, and simple potion-making, though we usually leave that for the craftsmen. Basic survival and tracking skills are also standard. Personally, I prefer longbows. Mine is dragonthorn and sylvanwood.

And over the course of the Blight I've picked up the skills of a ranger, and Grey Wardens have their own abilities.

6. Some have called you a Mary Sue. Thoughts?

Is that a reference to some shem hero? There are far too many.

7. What's your eye color?

I'm sitting right in front of you. Have you not eyes? They are blue, last I checked.

The color used to be deeper, in fact. It's faded out some in recent months. Blight sickness will do that.

8. What's your hair color?

…Black, as you can see. Have you received a blow to the head recently? What is the relevance of this, anyways? If you're committing my likeness to paper, focus on the vallaslin. It is the Hearthkeeper, Sylaise's pattern of clan Sabrae. Also in blue, I may add.

9. Have you got any family members?

My clan is my family. I had to leave them when I was recruited by the Warden Duncan, or risk spreading the Blight to them all.

10. Oh? What about pets?

There is a wardog that imprinted on me after the battle of Ostagar. Clever thing, highly loyal, obsessed with food. He reminds me of an old friend of mine, so I call him Fenarel.

11. Now tell me about something you don't like.

You don't have enough paper in that little notebook of yours, Genitivi, nor do we have time. In summary, though: Darkspawn. The Chantry. Wastefulness. And arrogant shems who think they know what's best.

12. Do you have any hobbies you enjoy?

Look around us, old man. We are in the midst of a Blight. I am one of two total Grey Wardens remaining in the entirety of Ferelden. Do you think I have time for hobbies?

Before the Blight, I enjoyed assisting Master Ilen, the clan craftsman. He tells me I have a good hand for bowmaking.

I challenge you to find me a Dalish hunter who has not.

I am an elf.

Ah, metaphorically. I've no idea. Wardens are associated with griffons, are they not? Likely one of those.

I hold onto hope when I should be practical, according to Sten. I am too forgiving, according to Morrigan. I am too compassionate, according to Shale. I catastrophize too much, according to Zevran, which seems silly, to me; we're in a Blight. This is a catastrophe. I am too reckless, according to Alistair. And I drink too much.

17. Do you look up to anyone?

In the clan, I looked up to the hahrens; we all do. I looked up to Duncan, when he was alive. Neither of those are available to me now.

18. Orientation?

Looks to be… south-southwest.

Isn't that what shem nobles do with their children? No, we don't do that. We follow the Vir Tanadhal or Vir Atish'an, and every hunter knows the Vir Banal'ras. Dalish children are taught our history and culture by the hahrens. But no, there is no "school".

I did, once. I was… you humans call it 'betrothed'? I had hoped to marry Tamlen. But that is not possible anymore.

Preoccupation with me tends to lead more to assassins than 'fans'.

I do not hold fear in my heart.

23. What do you usually wear?

I spend most of my time on the battlefield, so, armor.

This is… fruit? In a pastry? It's good. Impractical - we could never make such things in the aravels - but tasty.

The only 'drink' we get with any regularity is… I'm not sure how to describe it, actually. Alistair calls it "Grey Whiskey". It's quite something.

In my clan, we make honey mead and wild fruit wines. Those always remind me of home.

31. What's your favorite place?

There is a birch grove in the Brecilian forest. I imagine it's fallen to the Blight, by now. I used to go there with Tamlen, a long time ago.

32. Are you interested in someone?

[She does not meet my gaze.] Even if I were, such follies are dangerous.

[I had barely enough time to notice her glare before her fist shot out and collided with my nose. In lieu of an answer, she threw a rag at me to staunch the blood.]

[She laughs. It's unexpected, but a lovely sound.] Have you been to the Ferelden coast, Genitivi? It'd be safer to swim in Orzammar. Lakes, thank you very much.

[She glares at me.]

[She sits back down.] You, old man, have a fondness for dangerous and inappropriate questions. This I will answer, though my patience wears thin.

I prefer camping. My entire life prior to the Blight, I remember being able to hear the wind in the trees and see the sky. It is comforting to know one's place in nature. Walls and roofs have their place, but I don't like them, and I particularly dislike being underground.

39. Do you carry anything sentimental?

…Yes. All Grey Wardens wear a pendant that we receive after the Joining. And I've kept my old hunting gloves; Ashalle gave them to me when I received my vallaslin, and they were made by Master Ilen. [After a long, heavy moment, she slips a ring off of her finger and places it in my palm. It is a simple band carved from wood, detailed with elfroot leaves, warm in the hand.] And this - you call it a promise ring, I believe. Tamlen gave me this, a long time ago, before we came of age, before the Blight, to declare our intent to marry. Ma vhenan. Ma abelas. It reminds me of what I have lost. I will carry it until my death.

Well, my Hunter x OC fic is "Sun and Rain" and it's about a woman from Tatooine named Kimber that the Bad Batch rescue and she eventually becomes part of their squad. In the midst of going on adventures with them, she falls in love with Hunter and develops special relationships with all the boys, especially Echo and Crosshair. It starts off with all original stuff and then later connects to the events of the Bad Batch show and is mostly canon compliant, as of right now. Obviously while weaving Kimber into the story, which I find very fun!

The inspiration for it? Not entirely sure, it was just an idea that came to me. Kimber was originally supposed to be for, like, a one shot idea, but then she developed into a totally different, more involved character. I love the personality she has and how much she's grown in the 2 years I've been working on the fic. She's strong and a fierce fighter without being OP or a "Mary Sue" and she's very in touch with her emotions and cares deeply for the Clones and anyone else she considers her friends without being too emotional or coming across as weak. I like to think I've given her a good balance in making her a good character 😊

I do love to write longer fics just cuz my mind just goes wild with ideas and it takes a lot of effort for me to keep one shots short lol

My favorite character...well, if you're referring to Bad Batch, it's Hunter, of course 🥰 If you're talking just in general from any fandom...well, how much time you got? 😜 currently, it's Gajeel from "Fairy Tail" (cuz I'm rewatching the show) and Astarion from "Baldur's Gate 3".

My favorite trope is enemies to lovers or friends to lovers! Good shit right there!

today on fate and phantasms we’re building the great onion slayer, wannabe a tuna. wait no…

he’s a samurai fighter to fight as a samurai with an unbreakable spirit, and a hunter ranger because even though he specializes in fighting oni he’s still just some guy. some guy with a flaming sword and a weird relationship with a young demon. either way demon slayer should sue.

Race and Background

Watanabe is a totally normal guy, so that’s a Human. just a regular ol’ human. yep. ignore the fire sword. that gives you +1 to all stats… and that’s it. real simple stuff. he’s also a samurai, and the closest thing to that (background-wise at least) is Soldier, giving him proficiency in Athletics and Intimidation.

yep, that’s it. not everybody’s gotta have a super complicated background.

Ability Scores

Wisdom is going to be Watanabe’s highest stat- when you’re fighting demons who can kick boulders around, keeping your head on a swivel is a must. after that is Dexterity, because if you’re going to fight fire monsters I’m sure everyone will appreciate some AC. your Constitution and your Strength come next, though I’m putting the former above the latter. they’ll both be pretty even for most of the run, but it’s easier to buy a bigger sword than it is to come back to life. this means your Intelligence isn’t super high, but we’re dumping Charisma. they weren’t making supercomputers back then, and your acting is so wooden your sword could catch it on fire.

Class Levels

1. Fighter 1: we’re going to swap over to ranger soon, but first I wanted to pick up the fighter’s proficiency in Strength and Constitution saves. constitution = concentration, concentration = not wasting spell slots. you’ll also get proficiency in Acrobatics and Insight, which is nice.

now, we’re picking up your Fighting Styles a little out of order, but since we can’t Great Weapon Fighting from ranger we gotta get it now. we’ll get better with the longsword eventually, but this’ll give you the chance to re-roll 1s and 2s on damage with two-handed weapons. for now though I’d stick with a shortsword since your dexterity is slightly better than your strength.

you also get a Second Wind once a short rest for a little healing as a bonus action.

2. Ranger 1: okay, starting stuff is out of the way- almost. we get one skill proficiency for multiclassing, so pick up some Perception to spot oni ambushes better. in fact, since you’re a Deft Explorer you can even be Canny with perception for a doubled proficiency bonus.

speaking of seeing stuff better, we’re also picking up Favored Enemy to give you advantage on survival and intelligence checks related to the enemies you specialize in. obviously oni will be fiends, but those are the upper-tier oni, and you’re level 2. to start with, we’ll grab the humanoid races that we’ve been calling oni this whole time, specifically Tieflings and Aasimar. almost every adventuring party has a tiefling in it, so if you end up in a Westmarch game where you’re fighting another party, you’ll be pretty well set.

3. Ranger 2: second level rangers get another Fighting Style, so you can finally pick up Dueling for a +2 to your damage with one-handed weapons. on top of that you also learn Spells that you cast with your Wisdom, though don’t expect the modifier to do much for most of them. grab Hunter’s Mark to deal extra damage with every hit to a certain target and get even more benefits when tracking them, and Absorb Elements for a reactionary resistance to an elemental damage type plus a little extra spice on your next attack. it’s not much, but it’s your NP so it’s nice to have it early in some capacity.

4. Ranger 3: At third level you gain a Primeval Awareness of your surroundings, letting you spend a spell slot to sense the presence of extraplanar entities within a mile of your location. If we had kept Natural Explorer you would have gotten an expanded range in your favored terrain, though to be honest I’m not sure why a less accurate version of the effect is considered a good thing.

Regardless, you also join the Hunter conclave, one of the most customizable rangers in the game. oni are pretty tough, so we’re going to need all the damage we can muster against a single target. that means we’re grabbing the Hunter’s Prey option Colossus Slayer, so once per turn hitting an already damaged enemy will deal an extra 1d8 damage to them.

you also get one more 1st level spell. oni are fast, so keep up with them thanks to Longstrider for an extra 10’ of movement.

5. Ranger 4: we’re taking our first Ability Score Improvement in style with the Slasher feat. not only will this round up your Strength score to make using a longsword a better option, it’ll also give you cool new effects when you do so. now once a turn you can reduce a creature’s speed after hitting it with slashing damage, and a critical slashing hit forces the target to take disadvantage on all their attack rolls next turn.

6. Ranger 5: Fifth level rangers get an Extra Attack each action, giving you two attacks per action. To make things more interesting, you can also use your new spell Magic Weapon to further empower your attacks, giving you a +1 to damage and attack rolls for up to an hour with concentration. It is not necessarily as good as Hunter’s Mark in terms of damage, but if you need to pierce resistances or a tough hide, it is a spell that’s hard to beat.

7. Ranger 6: At sixth level you gain another set of Favored Enemies. The only other race we’ve used to make an oni at this point is the Shifter, though I could also see the Yuan-Ti Pureblood being an option if need be. You also become a Roving Deft Explorer, increasing your walking speed by 5’ permanently and giving you a swimming and climbing speed of the same rate. I guess that makes you a disciple of water spirits now.

8. Ranger 7: At the seventh level of ranger you get harder to hit when you learn a Defensive Tactic like Multiattack Defense. If a creature hits you with an attack, you now gain a +4 bonus against all subsequent attacks they make that turn.

You also gain another fiery attack thanks to Searing Smite. Spend your bonus action charging up your attack, then deliver an attack that deals a little extra damage right away, and at the end of each turn for up to a minute the target will have to make a Constitution save. If they fail, they will take more fire damage, while a success or an ally spending an action to put out the fire will end the spell. This is just about the most accurate form of your Noble Phantasm, though we will pick up one more later.

9. Fighter 2: Second level fighters gain their Action Surge, giving you an extra action once per short rest. This means you can cast two spells each turn, or make up to four attacks using two actions. given how many features you have that become more useful the more attacks you make, this is sure to come in handy.

10. Fighter 3: At the third level of fighter you finally become a proper Samurai, giving you a free History proficiency as well as a Fighting Spirit. As a bonus action up to three times per day you can use this spirit to give yourself temporary HP, and give you advantage on all weapon attacks for the turn. When used at the right moment, this can turn the tide of a fight quite handily.

11. Fighter 4: Use your next Ability Score Improvement to raise your Strength once more. We’ve put a lot of effort into making your sword effective, so it would be nice to be accurate with it.

12. Ranger 8: We get our next Ability Score Improvement right away, so it’s time for some Human Determination. This is an Unearthed Arcana feat, so if your DM doesn’t like it, feel free to replace it with just about any feat that rounds up your Dexterity score. If your DM is okay with the feat, it will let you make one attack, check, or save per short rest at advantage. Much like Watanabe himself, this feat is simple, yet invaluable in a rough spot.

You also have Land’s Stride form being a ranger, it lets you ignore plant-based difficult terrain and gives you advantage on saves against magical plants, which shafts tundra- or desert-based rangers rather heavily, I must say. Still, that’s not why we’re here.

13. Ranger 9: Ninth level rangers get third level spells like Elemental Weapon. Now you can spend an action to add fire, acid, cold, lightning, or thunder damage to your weapon, giving it a +1 bonus to hit and an extra 1d4 damage of the chosen type for up to an hour. Fire would be the most in-character, but we understand that most fiends are resistant to that damage type. Perhaps you can follow a certain Demon Slayer’s lead and choose cold instead?

14. Ranger 10: Tenth level rangers are Tireless, and if you’re going to catch up to Ibaraki Douji, you’ll certainly need it. This lets you gain temporary HP as an action Proficiency times per day, and you heal from exhaustion on short rests as well. You can also use Nature’s Veil as a bonus action, turning yourself invisible for a round Proficiency times per day as well.

15. Ranger 11: We are taking a certain demon slayer’s advice this level and making our sword flow like water to damage any number of demons who get too close. Well, like wind, anyway. The Whirlwind Attack multiattack uses your action to make one melee attack per creature within 5’ of you for (theoretically) up to 26 attacks in a single action. Though if you find yourself standing on an oni while an oni stands on you, you likely have bigger issues than DPS.

You also gain the spell Protection from Energy, giving yourself or an ally resistance to one kind of elemental damage for up to an hour. Choose fire against Ibaraki Douji, Acid against Shuten Douji, or Cold against Ibuki Douji. There’s options for everyone!

16. Ranger 12: use this ASI to bring up your Strength once more for more accurate and more damaging attacks.

17. Ranger 13: thirteenth level rangers get fourth level spells like Guardian of Nature. I’m sure the great tree option is great, but we’re mostly here to become a Primal Beast. it gives you a faster walking speed, darkvision up to 120’, advantage on strength-based attacks, and even a little extra damage with melee weapons. all things a growing Tsuna needs to take down an oni!

18. Ranger 14: at fourteenth level we get one last Favoured Enemy, and yes, it’s finally time to pick Fiends. Also you can Vanish as a bonus action to hide, and you can’t be tracked except by magic, though it’s level 18- anything tracking you has magic. Not the greatest level.

19. Ranger 15: level 15 is a great level though, since you gain the Superior Hunter’s Defense Uncanny Dodge. Now as a reaction to getting hit by an attack you can halve the damage of that attack against you. If you get grappled though make sure to use Freedom of Movement to escape. A lot of people in Japan can summon snakes for some reason? Don’t get constricted that sucks.

20. Ranger 16: our last ASI is for a boost in Constitution, both for the additional bonus to concentration saves as well as the extra 20 HP. It’s not a flashy way to end the build, but this hasn’t been a flashy build.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

Despite not looking like too much on paper, Watanabe no Tsuna is actually incredibly consistent in combat, with ways to reroll low damage rolls, spells that deal damage hit after hit, and an ungodly number of ways to get advantage on those attack rolls to keep the hits coming. He won’t wipe out a boss in one hit like Sanson, but he won’t tire out after that one hit either. The one thing I’d say he’s missing is Great Weapon Master. If I had an extra feat to use here, I would.

Tsuna’s defenses make him very good at dealing with duels against powerful enemies. He has solid defenses, and if he scores a crit against the boss with one of his many advantages then they have an even tougher time breaking through that disadvantage. Even if he does get hit, he can use Uncanny Dodge to take less damage, and then he’ll have an even higher AC for the rest of the turn.

While this wasn’t really the goal of the build, he’s also very versatile. His two best spells are Protection from Energy and Elemental Weapon, both of which let you choose your flavor. If you’re playing to character you’ll bump up against fiends’ fire resistance a lot, but really as long as you know what you’re getting into, you’ll have something that can help.

Cons:

we’re balancing a couple different stats to make everything work, so you’re not really good with a sword until like, level 11. which is not good for a saber. the high wisdom’s in character, but you might want to think about swapping that over to strength if you plan on playing this build in a low-level game.

also our good buddy concentration is back to ruin our day, just like every other ranger. your concentration saves are actually really good, but it’s rough having to choose between keeping your weapon hot or keeping yourself from being burned to a crisp.

you don’t have great Charisma, so even if you know everything there is to know about the oni you’re fighting, good luck telling the rest of the party.

So I kinda assume everyone ships incest couples for the exact same reasons I do but a post by @shipcestuous made me realize that people have more than one reason.

So anyways, I'll tell you (overexplain and explore a pretty simple concept and line of reasoning till I'm no longer passionate about it and spend a few weeks away from the concept in anyone who will listen's general direction) mine if you tell me yours.

I'll take some of Shipcestuous' (Astrid's) post 26 points about shipping siblings (also applies to cousins like Bwen) and add one or two of my own, which I think she didn't cover:

27) Sometimes we just prefer the shipcest over the canon pairings.

That's something I discussed  in a previous post of mine when talking about why I prefer Bwen over Benlie, Benkai and Gwevin. Fits some of my other shipcests too, like, I prefer Wanda x Pietro over Wanda x Vision, or (from Wizards of Waverly Place) Justin x Alex over Justin x Violet and Alex x Mason, or (from Frozen) Elsa x Anna over Anna x Kristoff.

A counterpoint would be: Ok, you don't like the canon pairings, but why not just ship the character with someone else that isn't a relative?

Sometimes I actually do that! For example, in Arrow I've never shipped the canon Oliver x Felicity, I used to ship Oliver x Laurel, and never felt like shipping Oliver with his sister Thea (though I have friends who do ship them).

But sometimes, I don't see a canon option that fits better than the shipcest, and that dives into Astrid's reason #18 ("you’re guaranteed “shippy” moments whether the romantic/sexual element is canon or not. The siblings are going to have sweet moments, significant moments, intense moments, emotional moments, pretty much no matter what.") Sometimes I feel like the better option is the relative (sibling, cousin) rather than another canon character. I don't like Wanda x Vision, so could I ship Wanda with, IDK, Thor? Yeah, I could, but I see her bond with Pietro much stronger, so I'm more inclined to ship her with Pietro rather than Thor.

28) Subtext is just WAY TOO strong

This I would point to Lauren and Andy from The Gifted. Nobody can watch a video like this and tell me they have a totally normal sibling relationship without any subtext of something else 

.

Now, I'll take some of Astrid's reasons that I most identify with.

10, 11) The "undivided loyalties" and "anti-change" aspect.

I'll once again give a Bwen example. In the Classic Series we see Gwen diving into the null-void to save Ben, pushing him out of a Florauna's way, and other moments. But in Alien Force, there is a scene where both Ben and Kevin are knocked out and she runs straight to check on Kevin rather than Ben. Then in Omniverse, Gwen leaves with Kevin, and Ben stays in Bellwood (later Rook joins him). Gwevin clearly changed the dynamics that I was used to between Ben and Gwen being devoted to protect each other, and I didn't want that to change.

A good counter-example to that, the Fantastic Four. They were always a family, Reed, his girlfriend/wife Sue, Sue's brother Johnny, and Reed's brother-from-another-mother Ben (and sometimes Reed's and Sue's children Franklin and Valeria). I like it that way, I wouldn't ship Sue and Johnny there because it would break that already established family dynamics.

9) Ulltimate codependency. In Astrids' words "Codependent characters who are also each others’ family are that much more codependent. No, it’s not always the healthiest situation, but there’s just something about a pairing that only has each other, who are each others’ everything." That defines at least three ships for me, Sam/Dean (Supernatural), Chris/Claire (Resident Evil), Hansel/Gretel (multiple media adaptations, but I mostly go with Witch Hunters).

1) Taboo/Forbidden aspect. Let's face it, this is probably the greatest consensual romantic taboo one can ship. There's a good deal of angst to write siblings or cousins hiding the nature of their relationship from the rest of their family. This I can put Ben and Gwen hiding it from their parents (and from Gwen's older brother, when he exists)

That spell should have worked. Well, I mean, it did work, but it should have been the utter undoing of the pair of hunters that had come sniffing around my new home.

Fucking hunters! Such a pain in my ass. It seems like every time I get settled, get to work, start making connections, get some dough rolling in, that it’s only a matter of time before some stupid hick with a gun and a monster-sized chip on his shoulder shows up and makes life impossible for me.

I liked this new town too, dammit. It was like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. Picture perfect and so prudishly repressed that my magic could easily twist it all to my advantage. And, well, sure, I probably shouldn’t have killed the good Reverend. That’s what I’m sure had caught their attention. But Rev. Robert Higgins was such a sanctimonious scumbag that I’ll admit that I got a bit carried away. And, in hindsight, maybe having him impaled by the cross falling off the steeple of his own church was, a bit, much. Fine. I’ve always had a flair for the dramatic, so sue me.

When the two suits showed up, claiming to be insurance adjusters, I knew two things immediately and with utter certainty. One, they were hunters. And two, they were partners in more than just the assigned-to-work-together kind of way, if you catch my drift.

Oh, don’t look at me like that! I hated them because of their chosen profession, not because of any sexual proclivities or orientations. What people choose to do with their bodies really only concerns me insofar as I can take advantage of it. So once I felt certain that these two were good enough hunters to actually trace everything back to me, I had to throw them off my trail, and I knew exactly how to do it… or at least, I’d thought I did.

I mean, come on! They were always touching or standing way too close, or eye fucking each other. It was so obvious! When they walked, there was barely space between them to avoid tripping over each other. Their movements unconsciously mirrored, like they were in total sync with each other. When they sat, they were touching, shoulders, or elbows, or knees, something. One time I saw their entire upper legs, from knee to hip, pressed together in a booth at the diner while they were talking to my neighbor Bob. Dudes who aren’t fucking don’t sit like that, they sit with space, even if it means one of them is half out of the booth. But these two? Naw, they just slid right in there like two giant peas in a pod, like it was nothing.

Leaving their shared motel room one morning, I saw the shorter one straighten the taller one’s tie before fixing his hair, for Christ’s sake. And then later that day, at the diner again, the taller one wiped a smear of pie off the shorter one’s cheek using his thumb! At least he had the decency to then wipe his thumb on his napkin instead of licking it off, but…

And then there were the looks, ugh, the looks! The shorter one was the worst with those. He got downright dewy-eyed looking at his “partner” and was constantly licking his lips while watching the other guy talk. Although the taller one seemed better at hiding the open adoration, he had a harder time hiding his jealousy when the other one flirted with the waitress, the desk sergeant at the police department, the mortician, basically every female that looked at him, and even some of the men. As soon as he had their attention he would crank up that perfect smile of his, flash those pretty eyes, and typically walked away with whatever he was trying to get, information, phone numbers, free pie, whatever.

Meanwhile, the taller one would be watching with his jaw clenching, just behind him. What Shorter couldn’t get by flirting, though, Taller got by utilizing the most effective I’m-just-a-soulful-puppy-dog-trust-me face that I’ve ever seen. When he did, rather than jealousy, Shorter would be fucking beaming with pride behind him.

So when I tell you that I was confident that my spell would work on them, please understand where I was coming from. It should have had them tearing those cheap suits off each other right there in the middle of town. God knows it worked on Mary Millnan and Todd Baker (which surprised literally no one, those two have been slow-burning for ages), and Deputy Blake and Brian Gant (which actually surprised me, because, wow, had they apparently been harboring some fantasies about each other). I mean, there were couples and groups groping, stripping, kissing, and fucking all around town, but the insurance agents from the offices of Abercrombie & Fitch? Nothing.

At least, it did distract them, I guess, for a moment. Shorter seemed ready to just stand there and watch the free show, until Taller grabbed him by the upper arm and pulled him away with a disdainful, “Dude.”

So I was the one about to be well and truly fucked because they’d turned around and saw me as I hightailed it back to my car. I never was a very fast runner.

I made it home and was almost out the door, my most precious belongings hastily packed into the bag clutched in my hand, when the door exploded inwards, propelled by a single kick by Shorter. Then two guns were aimed in my face.

“Don’t move!”

I froze, but immediately started to say a defensive spell. I should have foreseen the throat punch, but honestly, I don’t even know which one hit me, it was that fast. I dropped to my knees.

“Make sure it’s him.” Shorter said.

My bag was scooped up from where I’d dropped it. The zipper hastily pulled back and the sounds of my things being gone through.

“He’s our witch.” said Taller.

“Wh..” I tried to speak but my throat was still struggling, so I cleared it and tried again. “Why didn’t it work on you?”

“What do you mean?” Taller said.

“Back there, my spell, you two should’ve been…”

“The sex spell thing?”

I nodded.

Taller’s nose scrunched up, “Ew.”

“You sick son of a bitch. He’s my brother.” Shorter said.

The gunshot hit me before I had time to think about that. But now that I’m facing an eternity in Hell, I can’t quite let it go. I mean, what the fuck? I was certain. It was so obvious. All the demons I’ve asked down here agree. “The Winchesters? Oh yeah, I totally thought they were fucking. Well, that’s a bit disappointing, to be honest.”
