First Anniversary - Jan. 9th - word count: 298 - @wolfstarmicrofic

Sirius looked into the mirror, making sure that everything was just right. 

He was wearing his leather jacket, a dark crop top underneath, and skinny jeans. (He had bought them the last time he convinced Effie to let him go to Muggle London.)

He also had a touch of makeup on- some eyeliner (which had taken four fucking tries), a touch of mascara, and a bit of lip gloss.

Sirius frowned at his reflection, debating on whether or not to change again. 

Just then, James opened the door. 

“Pads,” he said, walking in. “Moony’s downstairs. Don’t keep your lover-boy waiting, or he’ll rebel. It’s your first anniversary! ”

“Yeah, yeah,” Sirius responded distractedly, messing with his hair. “Coming.”

“Okay!” James called, already leaving the dorm. 

Sirius sighed, throwing one more glance at the mirror before walking out and down into the common room.

Remus was sitting on one of the couches, fiddling with his hands. He glanced up at Sirius, and Sirius could have sworn he had to do a double take.

So he did what any normal human being would do.

“Moony!” he cried, launching himself into his boyfriend's lap. “My love, I have returned from war. I dost think we should goeth yonder, into the adventures that lay before us!”

“Yeah, hi, Pads,” Remus sighed, smiling. “You ready?”

“Duh. Why else would I be down here?”

“To take me to bed, mayhaps?” Remus asked, eyes sparkling. “Who knows?”

Sirius gasped dramatically, putting a hand on his chest. “How dare you, my good sir! The fact that you would even suggest the deflowering of our pure bodies-”

“Yeah, okay, we get it,” Peter interrupted from where he seemed to be discussing a prank with James. “Now are you gonna leave or are you going to get a room?”

Okay but Tommy drops out of high school — he told his father he was gay and he told him he could either be homeless or go to military school. He goes to military school and joins the army and he likes flying the helicopters because it means he doesn’t have to do any of the killing himself. And he makes some friends.

There's one guy who's like the squad leader who's a few years old and built like a Greek god and Tommy's young and a little bit in love. And they're friends maybe even family because this whole group of people spend every waking (and sleeping) moment together. And they all talk like a family and they all say they love each other and tease each other and it's nice. And one night it's just the two of them trading a flask of some sort of alcohol that Tommy doesn't know the name of and the man asks Tommy why he joined the army and where he wants to be in five years and Tommy trusts this man. He's half way in love with him so he doesn't even think twice before he tells the story about the time he came out to his family and his father nearly beat him to death before sending him here. And the conversation tapers off after that and he doesn’t register the change in the air but when he wakes up the next morning he’s being dishonourably discharged because he poses “unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability”. He knows what that means.

Tommy joins the fire department because he doesn’t know what else to do. He represses anything regarding his sexuality because he knows now that it’s wrong. He almost feels like he has a family again because his captain seems to like him and some of the guys are cool even if they say things he doesn’t agree with. And then he starts agreeing because maybe they’re right and he’s wrong and he’s just inherently wrong. So he follows their leads and is just straight racist because that’s how he can fit in.

And then a black lesbian woman joins and says she’s a black lesbian woman and Tommy doesn’t understand that either because you can’t be queer you just can’t be because it’s wrong.

But he nearly dies and and an Asian man saves his life and a black lesbian woman comes up with a better idea than any of them had and she tells them she’s no different and she is just as capable. So he improves himself he does and he tries to be better but he still can’t be who he is because the last 2 times he was honest about that he was betrayed.

Tommy leaves the 118 and “don’t ask, don’t tell” is lifted and he meets this guy he likes who likes him back and the 217 don’t seem to have a problem with the gender neutral pronouns and he slowly but surely lets himself open up again and be who he is and when the thing with that guy doesn’t work out because he’s moving to New York and Tommy’s not sure he’s ready to leave, it’s okay because his crew is there and they support him and he can still be himself.

I’d rather have a g3nocide overseas and have queer people (and poor people, women, poc) in the US protected than have a g3nocide overseas and not have them protected.

And if you say “well Roe v Wade overturned and other conservative laws happened under Biden” Remember this was the CONSERVATIVE supreme court that did this. And another Trump term will make the court even worse for decades. The implications of this are huge.

People are on the fence, it’s simple. If you care about your queer, disabled, poc, poor, female loved ones VOTE HARRIS. If you’re centrist and won’t vote because you don’t care you’re a pushover and a coward. If you’re farther left and think she isn’t left enough, yes you have a point but this is all we have, PLEASE use your brain and stop being chronically online and self impressed.

I don’t care if I lose followers for this at this point, I’m just out here doing everything I can, not to panic and want to hide who I am. A lot of people don’t have the options to move to another state let alone country and we just want to live.

I’m lucky to live in a very safe state but I’m still terrified.

Halloween 2011: The first costume I ever put together myself! I was so proud of it! and then everyone thought i was a duck (poorly drawn dramatic recreation below). Perry the platypus was my very favourite blorbo. he was my little guy. Breakdown of my 12 year old self's creative process below.

This was the first costume I ever made myself. Before I always got like Walmart princess and witch costumes. I was convinced that 2011 would be different.

-Foam hat and duckbill mask (from Dollarama).

-Teal craft shirt from Micheals. I actually still have this shirt and use it as pjs. At the time it was scratchy craftstore quality but it has literally held up to 13 years of use with barely a fray.

-Foam tail. I (my mom) bought giant sheets of orange foam from Micheals that I sewed togther to create the crosshatched texture. I used velco on the back of my shirt to attach it. I actually literally just used the leftover velcro this morning (see, sometimes hoarding materials is a good thing)

-The feet were also orange foam. I cut retangular pieces to glue to the top of my black Uggs (it was 2011 afterall) and toes to the foot part of the shoe. I thought I was a genius for this and I'm pretty sure I kept them on my shoes past halloween.

In addition to a nurse asking me if the guy on my shirt was an angry bird, literally everyone thought I was a duck that night and it made me very sad lmao.

I hate how Sam Smith being nonbinary doesn't seem to respected by literally anybody. I wish people would get that they aren't a man, and that's totally fine. They've been out as nonbinary since 2019. Honestly I'm heartbroken anytime I see a fellow nonbinary person misgendered. Sam Smith is just a really prominent example because even other queer people will misgender them despite the fact Sam is nonbinary is pretty well known.
