an aro-ace's love letter to love.
(the title "Laozi's bowl" is in reference to the famous quote by Chinese philosopher Laozi who said "It is the empty space which makes the bowl useful.")

thinking about... how oscar piastri wears almost only hoodies, sports jerseys t shirts, and polos to the track. and that he likes a good yachting investment banker bro sweater in his off time but will not be caught dead wearing one to the track. his hesitation whenever asked about his favourite movies or tv shows or music, and giving the blandest answers possible to not open any further routes of inquiry into his personal life or beliefs. just. quite fascinated by his. self-awareness. choices. the fact that he self-described as calculated since as far back as f2. his whole thing.
(btw i drafted this in like july and nicole piastri saying on red flags that oscar conceals himself pretty deliberately because year one was "not at all actually what he's like irl" just adds credence to my conspiracy theory tbh)

The thing is, it’s impossible to not have themes in your writing. The damn things pop up like mushrooms anywhere they detect the slightest hint of Story, even if you actively try to avoid them. And if you don’t thoughtfully choose which ones to cultivate and which ones to prune, that’s when the dry rot sets in and your whole house collapses.

Hi! this is kinda an art request if u dont mind. And it's angst related, can you draw like where wanda and cosmo obvs have seen for a while how (human) timmy has been treated by his real parents. I just want to see like the "last straw" which lead Cosmo and Wanda wanting them to make Timmy as their own. (IM HAPPY THAT TIMMY HAS A FAMILY THAT LOVES AND CARES FOR HIM)
The "Last Straw"?
Cosmo and Wanda have seen humans at their best. They've seen humans at their worst. They've seen anything and everything that they've gone numb and used to what humans get up to.
But nothing's shaken them quite like Timmy's case did. Nothing has ever made a Fairy feel such strong human emotions than what Timmy made them feel, on that one particular night.
The thing that broke Cosmo and Wanda was Timmy himself.

Something I really like is that April’s constant stream of odd jobs she goes through is somewhat reflected in the boys as well. Like, you have April working at random pizza places or getting a crane license or being fully willing to apply for a job at a place clearly made out of cardboard. Then you have the boys as well who do anything from working as a basketball mascot, building a massive dog park, being waiters, getting a whole band gig at a theme park, etc, etc-
Main difference is that April actively applies for these jobs (and is hopefully paid for the short time she’s in them) whereas for the bros the jobs usually find them (and they practically never get paid.) It doesn’t even stop at jobs either, they just seem to casually amass skills in general.
I don’t know, I like how both April and the turtles are just so ready and willing to do things. Sure, they’re not always good at these things, but they do them readily! In a way, being heroes is just another job (well, more like volunteer work/vigilantism/another fun activity) that they initially took on because of their general sense of “why not?”
They’re very willing and open to trying out new things despite their tendency to revert back to what they enjoy (and how commonly trying new things ends up going wrong), and I think that adaptational interest of theirs really helps them be well rounded in multiple regards.

just saw someone call charles' career 'common successes' the pole to win ratio agenda is too severe because in no way is 26 poles without a championship winning car common at ALL
every time he wins it's after ten thousand trials and tribulations and his wins this year mean so much more to me than if he had a dominant car. i said it last year and i think so doubly now that he impresses me with every race like he is him and i truly think he is the best.

can we talk about the fact that after jean goes pro he doesn’t even attempt to make it to US Court and so he never qualifies for it. this is like the biggest ‘fuck you’ to riko LOL but also kevin and jean truly never play on the same team again

Can we go back to the 2012 SuperNationals karting competition in Vegas please? I'm sure we all knew Lance beat George but he also beat Dalton AND Logan Sargeant? And Colton Herta? Also Marino Sato who used to do F2 and now does WEC. Also Pato O'Ward, Max Verstappen, and Charles Leclerc were in other series?

managed to catch the last twenty minutes of a writing workshop run by a local author whose work i have not read & at the end he passingly mentioned that he does a lot of stuff with invisible illness because of his own autoimmune stuff & so i came up to talk to him very incoherently like "oh invisible illness!! i-!! lupus!!" and he was like "OH AMAZING" and then took my email and is putting me in touch with his professional writing partner who writes and teaches almost exclusively about living with & managing chronic illness & injecting people's illness experiences into fiction :) flapping a bit about it.

You are doing your best, and that is all anyone can ask of you, including yourself. You are doing enough, even when it doesn't feel like you are. Some days are just about making it to the next one, and that counts, too. Give yourself permission to rest, without guilt or shame. And remember, rest is part of the process, not a reward for success. Honor your progress, and celebrate your little wins, not just the big ones. Give yourself credit where it's due. Resting is not the same as quitting. Your best might not look like someone else's best, or even like your best did yesterday (or even just five minutes ago), and that's okay. Sometimes, you'll have to reimagine what "success" means, and that's okay.

listening to adam's statement as someone who only really got attached to nrb after adam had left, so I'm not personally invested in the situation nor did I even really know what happened and I've gotta say. he really does seem just like. genuinely forthcoming. considerate to the other parties involved. disappointed, obviously, that such a personal conflict has to be made public in this way. but handling it with grace. I am one of the top straight white man haters in the country but besties. he seems fine.
