Its interesting to me how Gojo's english VA rejects or simply doesn't see the subtext StSG has but he's so open about his admiration for GJHm because he apparently pulls the same pranks on his wife like Gojo messes with Uta. And he even went as far as to say "C'mon guys, they're best friends" in regards to people being vocal about StSG relationship.

i’m gonna be honest, i’d rather listen to what the Japanese VAs have to say about anything jjk related (but especially about geto and gojo’s characters and relationship) considering the English Dub’s blunder with toji in season 2.

if u aren’t aware, the English Dub scriptwriters took liberties with a certain translation—in the manga toji says, “oh…i remember now. megumi. the name means blessings. and i’m the one who gave him that name.” meanwhile, the english dub of this scene became, “oh, speaking of blessings. that’s right, i almost forgot. i named my cursed spirit megumi.”

to twist a translation so badly that it takes away from what the actual scene was supposed to portray (toji remembering his son, megumi)—of course, whoever wrote the script is at fault here, not the actual VA, but it makes me doubt their commitment to the story’s authenticity. i’m not sure if this happened bc of lack of research or if they were trying to paint toji in a certain light.

i mean, language is fickle anyway; there’s so much cultural subtext that gets lost in translation and perhaps that could be the case here. but it could also be internalized homophobia, or just blatant homophobia.

i’m a big advocate for shipping whatever u want and respecting ppl’s boundaries! if someone dislikes or is uncomfortable with a ship, then don’t talk to them about it. in a similar line, if u dislike or are uncomfortable with a ship, filter, mute, and block! but to try and pass off ur biases as canon? bc of ur own lived experiences/personal values/trauma? c’mon now. preferences are preferences—none of our ships are canon, anyway (at least for now, but even then, that’s never stopped ppl from shipping characters in a confirmed relationship with other characters—and that’s fine!)

there is some nuance in situations like these, if we really wanna get into the nitty gritty. men can be close friends, sure! but if u bring a woman in to counter someone’s gay ship/hc, then u’re doing it in bad faith and ur obviously biased. queer subtext will almost always be ignored by a straight audience anyway, mainly bc they’re not familiar with it, and they might even be uncomfortable with exploring concepts that don’t fit their worldview.

again, if u a wanna ship gjhm, by all means, go ahead! just don’t be headass about it. don’t deny the possibility of other ships, either—specifically stsg bc that ship alone has more canon “proof” (that’s what they call it) than any other ship with their characters. don’t go and pull dumb excuses or justifications out of ur ass to dismiss other ships (or ship dynamics) bc u’re gonna look stupid. like what u like and don’t go to war with other ppl for liking different things!

i guess its sorta nuanced? i suppose by definition it would be considered hetbending, esp if one has an altered appearance to suit the assigned gender. but then theres also the headcanon aspect of it. since it is a headcanon that would make these genders be how you view the characters in their source, rather than altering them for ur own silly amusement

since these things are so nuanced i personally tend to tackle it from a portrayal point of view. Have i altered these characters to make one look like a man and the other a woman? if so, id say it should be tagged and considered as hetbend even if both or one party is trans and their sexualities are bisexual, because the point of tags such as "hetbend" or "genderbend" are so people who dont wish to see their favorite characters altered in these ways dont have to see it. these tags are used out of courtesy! Now, if you've taken the characters and headcanon one as a man and the other a woman but there have been no altercations and they look the exact same except for some pronouns and maybe some clothes change then id say it doesnt need the hetbend tag, as clothes do not have a gender and you can go by whichever pronouns you want while being a gender that said pronouns arent commonly applied to

Basically; if the appearances are altered it should be tagged accordingly out of care and consideration for those who dont wish to see that sort of thing for whatever reason. i dont get why people act like theres some morality thing at stake for tagging things like genderbend? trans or cis, the character looks different now which may be upsetting to some, so tag it!!! we're all just here to have fun!!!!

i also want to say enjoying or creating "hetbends" does not make you a bad person nor are you erasing queer rep, especially if you are keeping their queerness!! the original characters will remain the same no matter how much we may alter their gender and appearances in our niche circles, and there will always be a VAST majority of people representing the canon, so really theres no need to worry about wishing to indulge in the things that make you happy. none of us wish to hurt people with what we create!! and that is the REASON its tagged accordingly to begin with. Freyja's a very badass warrior chick, and Apollo is great in a fight too, but both of them also have a peaceful, emotional side (Freyja crying tears of blood and gold everytime her husband Odr leaves, Apollo remembering many of his lovers with beautiful flowers).. idk.. i think it could work.

on to friendships :))))))))))))

obviously guy scouts, the tricksters, fite club, queen club go without saying, but i've already discussed them before (see: miscellaneous hc's) so i wont bring them up again.

Demeter & Freyr

an easy one to think about... both of them are gods of the harvest, i think they would have a lot in common and they'd bond over farming techniques, etc.

Demeter's a little more quick-tempered than Freyr i think.. but i think Freyr's generally-calm exterior would make them quick friends.

ATHENA & THOR

capital letters because this one makes me excited!!!!

we know that Athena is one of the strongest warriors in Olympus, and equipped with the aegis, she's pretty terrifying. similarly, Thor is also easily the powerhouse of Asgard, and equipped with mjolnir, he's insanely strong..

so i love the idea of Athena and Thor sparring together and pushing each other to become greater warriors than they already are.

Apep & Veles

this one's kinda strange, and no doubt obscure.. it's something i made up for a myth-story i was writing, but i really like the idea of it.

unlike most of the trickster/bad guy kind of gods in myth who do bad things for a) the fun of it, or b) for revenge, i like the idea that Apep and Veles have an awareness of how necessary their existence is to balance the world, i.e. you can't have a world with only good, or only bad, both must exist.

my hc is that Apep hangs around with the tricksters sometimes, but doesn't think all that much of them because he perceives them to be petty and arrogant... but Veles, who is somehow both friends and arch-enemies with his rival Perun, doesn't really act that way, and because he's so much younger than Apep, Apep kinda adopts him as his little bad-guy-in-training, almost a mirror of the way Ra adopts Set.

Ra, Helios & Sol

i mean. they're all personifications of the Sun, it feels like this goes without saying.

where Ra was just kinda born the moment the Earth was, Helios and Sol came much after that time, and we know Ra has a penchant for adopting younger gods hee hee, so i like the idea of Ra being a sort-of mentor for Helios & Sol that blossoms into a close-knit friendship...

Ra and Helios both strike me as flamboyant, dramatic guys, so they're natural friends... Sol is quieter i think, but she can be very outgoing when she wants to be ^-^

Hel & Hades

i like the idea that Hel comes to Asgard as a child, and actually becomes the ruler of Helheim while still a child.. so she's not really an expert on being a queen or ruling anything, etc.

but Hades has his own daughter, Macaria, who i imagine to be a bit mischievous and likes to cross the borders of the Underworld on her own and go exploring... so i hc that Macaria and Hel are very good friends, Hel being only slightly older than Macaria.

as a result, i think Hades sees quite a bit of Hel... personally, i don't imagine Loki taking up much of a fatherly role, but i hc that Hades looks out for Hel as he would his own daughter, and guides her and gives her advice and stuff.

Anubis also has a daughter, Kebechet, who i imagine forms a little trio of death gods with Macaria and Hel, but i wont talk about that ehehehehehe

Thoughts on their home life/family

maki comes across veryyy. edgy and like "oh duhhh this character has trauma they're wearing their pain on their sleeve" and so i worry her backstory is too. ouch the edge? but i think like... ultimately her relationship with her parents and her relationship with ryutaro are accurate to like... toxic households/what happens when ur a child abuse victim. even if what exactly Happened there is a bit more nonsensical, the dynamics portrayed are (hopefully) accurate depictions which hold weight because of what they're like, if not how they came to be.

thatsss meta reflection tho lol. for something in-universe... hm. how do i say things without spoiling. i think her being a big sister is very important to her and she wants to be like. part of the club with yamaguchi and hatano and uehara and etc etc. but her relationship with ryutaro is like. Explodes. so while the fact she's a big sibling is something that holds a lot of weight to her shes like. well i cant really call myself a big sibling now can i. hm. (<- dont worry about it its just the horrors ! )

hi! I have a handful of questions regarding ship content in the zine, I asked something similar on curious cat but I'm not sure if it's been answered so I'll pop it here too! <3

1. In ur info doc you discuss not wanting abusive/incest etc. ships in the zine (which I whole-heartedly agree with dw) but I was wondering about the specifics of this? are there unhealthy dynamics outside of the ones explicitly mentioned that will or won't be allowed - not just as romantic but as general explorations of them?

2. Are there any specific ships that will/won't be allowed in regards to popularity? for example, would rarepairs such as blackskye, klavquill, etc. be allowed in addition to popular ships like blackbright/blackmadhi?

3) would ship content have to be canon compliant (ie. make sense within the ace attorney timeline)?

4) would there be the ability to explore gender/sexuality (since those hcs tend to vary from person to person)?

5) would there be opportunities to have separate versions of the zine with or without certain ships or ship content altogether?

We do not want any kind of minor/adult, incest or abusive/toxic relationships portrayed in a romantic light. These relationships of course, especially things like Athena/Simon, can be familial or platonic! Dare we say they are family, your honour.

These pairs, let’s say for example Phantom/Simon, this can be explored and done as a piece, it’s a huge part of DD as well! However, just cannot be romantic explicitly. If you wanted to say, do a piece about Simon tracking him down/figuring him out, something that sits within exploration of character and story, that is 100% fine!

2) No! Absolutely not, rare-pairs are just as amazing and we do not have some kind of count on how popular the ship must be to do certain pieces!

3) Yes, this is a canon-compliant/canon-divergent zine so there cannot be for example an AU of them in another show/media form.

4) Yes absolutely, you can have Trans Simon written/drawn or him with different spectrums of sexuality.

5) This idea is actually quite brilliant as in an idea to do perhaps a separate zine just for any ship/romantic content, we will look into this.

thoughts: my absolute absolute absolute favorite iwaoi fic. the characterization, the fact that oikawa’s a bastard but because he and iwaizumi are older (late 20s i believe), it feels more realistic and sad rather than oikawa being a bitch for the sake of it. spoiler alert it’s slow burn and pining and mostly oikawa not realizing his feelings. this world building is pretty cool bc iwaizumi is the professional player while oikawa is an entomology professor! also i love non-linear narratives bc of This fic. there’s mutual pining in this fic but it’s really really really subtle to the point where you dont even know if oikawa likes iwa. this made me cry like twice.

sunset towns

Summary: In the summer of 2020, Oikawa Tooru returns home from his first successful stint as captain of Japan’s national volleyball team. In one hand, he holds the undisputed weight of an Olympic medal, and in the other, his unresolved feelings for a childhood best friend.

thoughts: the tone in this is So similar to the courtship ritual that I liken this as an alternate story even though it’s still oikawa’s pov. professional player oikawa and regular guy iwaizumi and oikawa is just. bumming around at iwaizumi’s place and naturally he messes up but things happen.

thoughts: this is also SO funny bc basically oikawa retires and moves in with iwaizumi and becomes his stay at home wife and a bunch of shit happens like people think that oikawa is dating ushijima and oikawa basically loses it every time. here’s one of my favorite quotes:

thoughts: so funny. so sososoosso genuinely funny. the tone is so snappy and iwaizumi honestly just sounds like a confused teenager (which he is in this) and it gets extra points for including a lot of american culture that a lot of the other iwaoi college au ones don’t include for like. obvious reasons lol.
