imagine being illario and finally finding the resolve to kill your cousin right. you seduce and fuck a blood mage venatori magister to get her to do this for you. you figure youā€™ll eventually kill her once you are first talon, tie up the loose end and make it look good for you. a vengeance story! except when your cousinā€™s body shows up your grandma retreats into herself presumably out of grief and youā€™re like jesus christ heā€™s a corpse and still the favorite. at this point you start feeling some regret and at the wake youā€™re beside yourself. it helps to be really feeling some of that to fool everyone else. but months pass and your grandma still isnā€™t even discussing the inheritance and you have to be normal because you donā€™t want to incriminate yourself. and then a year later some random guy (worse if its a de riva tbh) shows up saying they need your cousin to kill an elven god (what.) and heā€™s the only one who could (insulting). and its at this point your grandma is like ā€œlucanis diedā€¦ but he is not dead!ā€. record scratch freezeframe. while you juggle with the fact that the freak woman you fucked specifically to get her to kill your cousin didnā€™t even kill your cousin AND your grandma didnā€™t bother telling you (for good reason ofc but she doesnā€™t know that), you have to lead these assholes to go save him and unravel your hard work. so plan b. you kidnap your grandma and push your (now possessed) cousin away (and then get mad when he actually walks away. because youā€™re like this). and when your cousin comes dangerously close to figuring out whatā€™s happened with you and the magister, you kill the magister. you ally with those elven gods and venatori (you arenā€™t sure how youā€™re going to get out of this one but itā€™s fine. thatā€™s a hill for future illario) to make sure you have enough backing to stand up against the other houses if they challenge you becoming first talon. you continue to gaslight your cousin into staying away, because if there is one thing you can count on, itā€™s his literal inner demons and total lack of a support group, youā€™re certain heā€™ll fuck it up by himself. you know this because his support group used to be your grandma (dubious) and yourself (lol). youā€™re almost home free. and caterina will definitely acknowledge you as a player on the board. which isnā€™t important but it would be nice, right. BUT THEN IT TURNS OUT. YOUR COUSIN HAS RECENTLY MADE 7 FRIENDS. one of whom can speak to the fucking dead because of course he can. and then some of those friends show up to publicly humiliate you at the dinner party that should have been YOUR crowning moment. your grandma ALSO shows up to tell everyone you have gathered that your cousin is first talon. your cousin gapes at her because he doesnā€™t actually even want it so itā€™s kind of awkward for everyone. and then when youā€™re sure heā€™s about to ask viago de riva to poison you to death, he actually tells him just to take you away. because OF COURSE heā€™s being the bigger person. anyways the point is iā€™m surprised illario just lets himself be taken away because if i were him i would have started biting people and then bombed the villa

Eddie blinks. Once. Twice. And a third time for good measure. The scene before him doesn't change. Steve Harrington stands off to the side of the lunch table, behind Jeff and Frankie who have both gone still as statues like they think if they don't move, King Steve won't see them.
"Uh, what?" Eddie finds himself saying, against his own will. He heard Harrington the first time, doesn't need or want him to repeat himself, but his disbelief seems to have won out against his grudge for all jocks and his indifference to Steve Harrington in particular.
Harrington's face pinches, like he's three seconds away from rolling his eyes. He doesn't do that, though, which Eddie will give him one brownie point for. "I asked if you had a minute to talk." Eddie's taking away his brownie point because Steve 'asks' in a way that sounds more like a demand.
Hearing the question and or demand a second time doesn't lower Eddie's hackles, but it does pique his curiosity. He drums his fingers atop his lunchbox, thinking it over. He wishes he could say he's pretending to think about it before he tells Harrington to fuck off, but the truth is he actually is thinking about it.
What could Harrington possibly have to say to him? They very much do not run in the same circles. Eddie only talks business at the picnic table past the edge of the woods out back and everyone who buys from him knows that. They share several classes, since they're both seniors, but everyone knows Eddie's on a track to not graduate (again) so he can't possibly be coming to discuss Mrs. Click's homework assignment.
"Sure. Should we go elsewhere or...?" Eddie trails off, lifting a hand to wave in a circle in Steve's direction, questioning.
Steve looks over his shoulder, back towards the side of the cafeteria taken up by the 'popular' crowd. When Steve turns his face back, he looks- well, kind of sad for a moment before it's smoothed over with indifference.
Interesting.
"No. It's probably good that the rest of your friends hear it anyway," Steve answers.
Jeff's eyebrows rise to his hairline, and Frankie frowns as his eyebrows raise at the same time, showing an expression of interest. Eddie's got no idea what Gareth's face is doing because Eddie can't see him unless he wants to turn his face away, but he's certain it's probably a glare of some sort.
Eddie leans back in his chair, wiggling like he's getting extra comfortable before he says, "Well, alright Harrington. Shoot."
"I'm graduating this year, so I just wanted to give you a heads up for next year. I tried to curb the bullying, but I know it still happened. So, since I'm not going to be here to watch out for that, you're gonna wanna up your," Steve gestures to all of Eddie, "everything."
He knew Steve curbed the bullying a bit, heard the confirmation of that last year from Jason Carver and Tommy Hagan, when he'd stepped in to save Gareth. Or rather, Gareth had come flying in to save him and then Eddie had to save Gareth- well, the details don't matter really.
"My everything?" Eddie asks, more confused than angry. He thinks he should be angry. Harrington has all but outright said he doesn't think Eddie's going to graduate with him, after all. But no. The main emotion now is confusion.
"Yeah. Your, y'know, freakinesss or whatever. Be more of it."
"Be more of a freak?" It's fascinating, that Harrington just keeps talking like he thinks anyone at this table care for his opinion.
"Yeah!" Harrington says, cheery like he thinks that Eddie's agreed with him somehow, complete with a stupid snap of his fingers that turns into a finger gun pointed at Eddie. "You've already got this like unapproachable mad dog kind of look about you, most of the JV team is already scared of you. Just like, up that a bit more and they'll probably steer clear of you and your friends." Then Harrington frowns deep, looking around the table of nerds and dorks before looking down at the top of Gareth's head to add, "well. Except probably curly here. No offense, but you seem an easy target."
"Fuck off," Gareth growls, because of everyone at the table, Gareth does have the most bite. (Most bark goes to Eddie himself). Eddie's more prone to run from a problem than engage in it, unlike Gareth, who he's had to pull off of a few people this year.
"Or not," Harrington retracts his previous statement and Eddie will grant the man another brownie point, which brings the total up to one.
"Good to know my reputation precedes me," Eddie grins, wild and a bit manic.
Harrington is unphased. "Yeah! Do that more. I think it really freaks Jason out and he's most likely to take the captain slot next year, so if you get him afraid of you, the rest of the team'll fall in line and leave you alone too. I think he's super religious, so like, lean into the satanic panic thing people are up in arms about and next year will be a breeze. And-"
Eddie lifts a hand, a motion for Harrington to stop talking. It surprised him a little that Harrington does. Even more interesting. "Stop me if I'm wrong here, Harrington, but are you suggesting that I become the bully?"
Harrington's mouth opens and closes a few times before his face pinches again. Instead of looking like he's going to roll his eyes and be bitchy, Harrington looks confused and then like he's deep in thought. An uncomfortable amount of awkward silence falls over there table, but it's just when Eddie's about to break that silence that Harrington finally speaks. "No. I'm saying just like, be you but bigger. Like, you don't even gotta look in the team's direction. If you're just more of a freak than you usually are, they'll steer clear without the bullying."
"You sure know how to compliment a guy," Eddie deadpans. He's not even upset that Steve's called him a freak. He's spent the majority of his high school career cultivating that outlook. He wasn't just a freak, he was The Freak.
Now a look crosses Harrington's face. One Eddie's not sure he's interpreting correctly. If he had to take a guess, he'd say the look was calculating, knowing, in a way that Eddie doesn't think Harrington could actually achieve. Then it's gone, replaced with the bitchy, eye-rolling look Eddie's used to seeing, and Harrington says, "I haven't said anything untrue."
Hmm. The most interesting thing yet. Eddie might not be graduating (again) but he's not dumb. He didn't survive this far in his life, with a father like his, without learning to read people. He wasn't as good as he wanted to be at reading people last year, but he's definitely good enough know to think that, maybe, just maybe, Harrington also knows a thing or two about cultivating a public perception. Making sure people only see a certain side of you.
"Alright," is what Eddie answers, "I'll take what you've said under advisement."
"Uh. Okay," Harrington says before he just walks away. Conversation over.
"Well," Jeff says, "that was strange."
"Very," Eddie agrees as he watches Harrington walk away, tracking him until the cafeteria door slams shut behind him when he exits.
Eddie has always wanted to up the ante, so to speak. Jump on a cafeteria table and rant about capitalism and organized sports. He never has before but next year seems like a great time to try.

Iā€™m so thankful for Ford because not only did we get a whole new character to enjoy and learn about, but from him, we also got a brand new character in Stanley. Ford and their backstory completely flipped Stanā€™s character archetype on its head and gave context to everything he does. Iā€™ve never seen a character that so drastically changes when you look back on them once you understand their backstory. I can thank the introduction of Ford to making Stanā€¦ well, Stan

This is the devilā€™s hole pupfish! A tiny species that lives only in One water-filled limestone cavern in Nevada. It was one of the first animals on the endangered species list. At the last count in 2022 there were 263 pupfish observed - the most in 19 years! Theyā€™re tracked pretty carefully, as their 215 square foot habitat (the smallest of any know vertebrate) is fragile and has been disturbed in the past by groundwater extraction and other human interference.
[ID: an illustration of a shiny metallic blue fish, the male devilā€™s hole pupfish, facing to the right. It is on a lighter blue background with a ripple pattern. End.] l

listen i know we all love steve ā€œcompletely ignorant of queer culture to the point that bisexuality is a surpriseā€ harrington being roasted and educated in turns by robin and eddie, yadda yadda, good stuff. i read ā€œthey made a horror version of rocky?ā€ in a fic recently and cackled. also a big fan of ā€œhe knew he was bi from the start and just never talked about itā€ as a trope, love it excellent well done
but what about steve who realizes after starcourt that the most important person in his life now has this thing thatā€™s a major part of her life that he knows nothing about, and what if he fucks it up? what if he says something ignorant or rude by accident, and hurts her? what if he loses her because he didnā€™t know the right thing to say? what if he canā€™t keep her safe because he doesnā€™t know what to look out for? absolutely fucking not, this steve says
and listen sheā€™d never say anything, because she can tell that he can tell how much she likes teasing him and teaching him things, so he plays dumb, and she thinks itā€™s very sweet. but she notices when the zines she keeps under her bed that she buys at that one secret bookshop in indy when she can sneak away on family trips start going missing, always one at a time, and replaced in a few days with another disappearing. and she finds the new ones he must have gone to buy the weekend she was at her auntā€™s house hidden in the back of his closet when she goes to steal one of his sweaters. and she notices when he slips more of her queerer movie recommendations into his personal take home pile rather than the movie night stack when he thinks sheā€™s not looking.
she doesnā€™t notice when he drives to indianapolis after she tries to explain to him why she canā€™t just ask out a cute girl, tries to impress on him the fear attached to every moment of attraction that he simply has never had to feel, but later she finds a crumpled receipt from a diner in one of his jacket pockets when sheā€™s looking for his keys, and the address is across the street from the bar the gorgeous woman at the bookstore told her about, the one she memorized the address of but hasnā€™t worked up the guts to think about visiting, and she knows he must have gone looking for a place like that, must have been trying to understand, must have been scoping it out to make sure it was somewhere she could feel safe, after she told him she never had.
so when eddie nearly pops a blood vessel when they clock each other and she mentions that steve is the only person sheā€™s ever come out to before, her hackles come up. because she gets it, she does, heā€™s only known king steve until recently, so it makes sense that he would be afraid, be concerned for her safety.
but steve is her person, and no one- no one- has ever made her feel as protected or as cared for as he does. no one has ever tried as hard to understand her, no one has ever put so much work into making her feel safe and seen and loved. and she thinks maybe even if no one else ever does, thatā€™s ok. because she has steve, and more importantly steve has her, and that means no one gets to question his ally credentials in her presence without a dressing down to remember, no matter how well they mean or how recently they helped save the world.
(and maybe sheā€™s not as surprised as she could be when he figures out bisexuality all on his own, because sheā€™s been reading all the same pamphlets he has, after all. and sheā€™s seen the way he looks at eddie, i mean come on. maybe no one else has noticed, but then, nobody knows steve harrington like she does.)

Yelling at the doctor so hard he imprints on her. being too hungover to notice cybermen. Yelling at the doctor so hard SHE imprints on HIM. Being bombarded by questions she can't answer by breaking down into sobs and then giving the Doctor a little wink bc they are IN CAHOOTS!! Jumping in front of the doctor saying "don't you hurt him" after only knowing him for a few hours. Also being like "something is deeply wrong with you" and knowing EXACTLY what his fucking problem is after knowing him for less than a day. Seeing the creation of Earth and cracking a little joke. She is Queen she is Mother she is Every Moment!!!

I need to tell them. Those were the words occupying Robbie's mind throughout the afternoon with his parents. But why ruin a good day? Any parent would react badly hearing the news of their son quitting his career at a highly respected company. Robbie knew Leilani would react less severely, given her positive outlook on all situations, so when Bryce went to buy some food, he took the opportunity.
Tumblr media
Having finally discussed the matter, Robbie felt an immediate sense of relief. "Oh come here, darling, you did the right thing quitting." It pained Leilani to hear her son struggling and concealing this information from her, "You must always prioritise yourself and that job wasn't doing you any good...I just want you to be happy and healthy Robbie." When Bryce returned, Robbie took a deep breath and said, "Dad, there's something you should know."
Tumblr media
Bryce pressured Robbie to be successful without fully realising it. These were things such as comparing him to Renee, always asking about work research and setting high expectations given their shared love for biology and science. When Renee and Robbie secured good jobs, he boasted about them to friends and family, which undoubtedly unnerved Robbie anytime reality didn't meet expectations. Now that he quit his job, it was that fear of disappointment.
Tumblr media
Faced with his dad, Robbie felt like he impulsively threw away his ambition, when he could've resolved the issues by dismissing them until things went away. Anger welled up in Bryce's eyes after the conversation and Robbie braced himself for the sighs and disapproval.
Tumblr media
"Who are those co-workers Robbie??? I'm gonna teach those jerks a lesson cos no one messes with my son!" Bryce responded with an assertiveness in his voice, hinting he'd do anything to defend his family. As much as Robbie would've liked to see that, it wasn't the most sensible action. "T-Thanks Dad, but I've moved on from those events," Robbie admitted, still taken aback by his reaction. "I'm sorry I couldn't give you a better upbringing, I-I never meant to put that much pressure," Bryce explained after calming down, "I just want the best for you."
Tumblr media
"Look, I'm proud of you. You don't have to reach the top of your career or earn the big wages-ā€¦hell you don't even have to prove anything to show me that. I'm already so proud of you every minute and every day, because you are my son."

This is a much more well thought out explanation of Kuaidul's words than I was able to give and I 100% agree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I get what Kuaidul is trying to say! He says ā€œrefuses to face his destiny,ā€ like the path he thought he had, and follows the path he wants. I was worried he was going to try and manipulate Yudias again, but that does not seem to be the case. It looks like heā€™s trying to help his brother be more decisive.
Yudias and Fukamura are going through that as well. Being a Velgearian, Yudias should save his people and stop Yuamu, despite what it means for the Dark Matter Empire. And being a Darkman, Fukamura should listen to the Dark Meister, despite her not being a Darkman. But these objectives clash with how they feel. Rather than following the goals set for them, they should do what they feel is right.
