on bodies: theory and practice in three parts | chapt. I
When Elphaba’s tutoring session doesn’t quite go as planned, turns out practice is far more compelling than theory… especially when Fiyero takes over the teaching.
First chapter of my new Fiyeraba fic is up! I definitely learned my lesson from my first seres, so this time I wrote all the chapters in advance, and I will post them over the course of the following week, one chapter every three days.

someone said that the way nessa enunciated "munchkin boy" was reminiscent of someone saying a slur and i really fuck with that take. 100% correct. "munchkin boy" , said with the cadence of someone about to get cancelled.

Summary:
Trying to explain it makes Glinda realize how little she understands of the past few days – weeks, really: a letter from Elphaba, delivered by a Pigeon at her window, entreating her for help. Elphaba, alive somehow against all odds. And Fiyero too, apparently right there under her nose all along, hideously transformed into that straw abomination. And then transformed again, worse still, back to this state of brokenness, on the edge of death.
Elphaba has been the architect of it all, Glinda thinks, yet barely present. Certainly not explaining or apologizing. Talking about resources and expectations. Telling her that Fiyero didn’t want her involved. Suddenly she feels like the biggest fool of all, for trusting Elphaba yet again despite all of the times she’s been betrayed.

dancing through life, down at the ozdust ✨
what does it say about me that my favorite scene in wicked was the part where everyone lets loose in the library, then the entire school, irrespective of social class or subculture, gets ready to go to an impromptu secret dance party together, where they all have fun and connect, eventually including even elphaba…. :’) i SWEAR i didn’t peak at junior prom i just love seeing people being excited for things together and having camaraderie 😭😭 ik everyone loves the dance scene between glinda and elphaba but i think it slaps extra hard when you also watch all the scenes before and after!!!

the forbidden corn is available on AO3!
I wrote a one-shot for the BBS Summer Prompt Challenge, featuring 5+1 Fiyeraba scenes, mostly to do with them arguing and being idiots over books. It's not a sad or dramatic story, pretty light-hearted. We also explore what the "Forbidden Corn" is, and why it's Shiz's favorite book in-universe. Please check it out and comment, like or reblog if you enjoyed reading it! (It has no spoilers for act II/movie 2.)

up thinking about Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero saying the line "Elphaba, we are going to be together always. You can see houses flying through the sky, can't you see that?" in Wicked: For Good

Better Off Pretending
Wicked fanfic — Shiz-era, fiyeraba fake-dating AU Missed chapter 1? Read it here
Chapter 2: The Proposal (no, not that one)
“Ev’s history is just as boring as Oz’s. There’s only so many laws and reforms you can hear about before going mad.” Fiyero groaned.
Elphaba didn’t look up from her notes. “Just think, once you’re king, your entire day will be filled with laws and reforms.”
“I’m sure any law I touch will be far more interesting than,” he squinted, looking at the last thing he read, “Standardizing Greeting Procedures in Royal Advisory Councils. Surely Ev has had something more interesting happen in their centuries of existence? Where’s the drama? The scandals?”
She finally paused to look up at him. “Did you conveniently forget King Algar’s engagement treaty? Or were you planning on ignoring that section of next week’s exam?”
“No, I knew that.” Fiyero insisted, while discreetly glancing back at his books to see if there were any hints as to what exactly she was talking about.
Ah, there.
“That’s the one where he promised to marry a princess he’d never met to keep the peace, right?” Fiyero continued as if he just remembered. “Sounds… romantic.”
“Tragic,” Elphaba corrected, underlining the names with surgical precision. “Princess Truda was in love with someone else, but she signed the treaty anyway because she thought that the woman she loved didn’t return her feelings. When the other woman died a few years later, Truda— who was queen by then— was so devastated, she didn’t leave the castle for three years.”
“Now that’s what I’m talking about. Star-crossed romance, longing, loss. Why aren't there more things like that in this book?”
She rolled her eyes. “There’s plenty like that if you actually read it.”
Fiyero flipped the page, excited. “Oh, what about Chancellor Idalwin? Known for his ‘generous patrons.’ That’s just a fancy way of saying bribery, right?”
Elphaba’s pen hovered, then scratched quietly. “Yes, history has a way of softening edges.”
He grinned. “Or sharpening the ones that suit the story.”
She glanced at him, cool and steady. “People remember what they want to remember.”
“Convenient,” he said, leaning back. “Makes life simpler.”
A pause.
Her voice dropped, almost quiet. "Until it doesn't."
Something in Fiyero's chest pulled tight, but he shrugged it off. "I don't know, some say honesty's overrated."
“I’ll have you know,” he said, leaning closer, voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, “I once told a professor his lecture was the best nap I’d ever had. That’s brutal honesty.”
Despite herself, her mouth twitched. “How noble of you.”
He grinned wider, soaking in that almost-smile like it was the sun as she returned to her paper.

what are the obvious reasons for less gifmakers?

#yeah if you are not the first one out at the gate then what are you doing#for me the meta and parallel gifsets did well but also#interestingly my best performing Wicked gifset is the rules of tragedies ones#which I guess falls on the artistic side so I was pretty shocked to see it performed as well as it did

But consider this: the book has like... 20% in common with the musical? Fiyero on stage and in the movie is not the same Fiyero that is in the books. He doesnt have the tribal background, nor does he share the same fate as book Fiyero. It gets downvoted, cause its a tired ass argument that doesnt make much sense. You might as well argue for the hundreds of other ways that the movie and musical are different from the book.
Also, the Wicked movie's world is not racist, its very liberal in terms of both sexuality and race. Unless you are green of course.
If you want book accuracy, you cant pick and chose what change to approve of and what not, or you can, but then its just your opinion, and not a correct or incorrect take.
Then Glinda shouldnt be a main character either, no? But she is, and the story is all the better for it 🤷
But lets say that they do make Fiyero POC in rhe movie: what actually changes?
Looking at this narratively: Like I said, the movie is in a color-blind world, so they either are just like completely normal about him being POC (unlike in the book) or...? It literally doesnt matter.
Elphaba is played by a woman of color, thus representing real-life racism perfectly. If you make Fiyero POC and give the same attention to his societal struggles in the story as he has in the books, you lessen Elphaba's character, and what she represents. You either make him POC and strip him of his tribal context or you dont cast him as POC, at that point it barely matters.

I really should just leave the Wicked subreddit atp when this the kind of stuff that gets downvoted.
“Jonathan Bailey was good in the role but it feels wrong for the character who is described as being a person of colour to be played by a white guy.”
Like they’ve got a point.
