what are you looking at?
anyway salutations, i have finally made an intro post after a year of meaning to.
the beginning or the end, the end or the beginning
to all the people who have struggled with self harm
especially the ones who don't have the battle scars to prove it
so yeah hi,
some main shit you might want to know,
i am non binary/genderfluid(idk still fighting with my own fucking brain), i am also pansexual and i think i may be demi-sexual/demiromantic, idk ,you dont care about my silly brain not knowing shit about myself.
i am experimenting with the name dorian because my stars does that name have a chokehold on me, so you can refer to me as that or don't i don't mind, really you can refer to me as anything you want as long as it is not offensive and mean.
i am a minor but i am truly an old man, also a very hyper (at times), sophisticated 4 year old.
i am irish, i speak english and *not fluent, but one day* irish and french
personality= INFJ
also not to good with tones so if you could tell me that would be great
more random things♡
i am fucked in the head, but i am undiagnosed with probably a lot a shit but we love that!

there are 3 types of marauders stans
1. The immature gifted and talented person. The type of person to still have my little pony curtains in their room. they read fantasy books and lotr from the ripe age of 8. they probably read the harry potter books when they were 10 and was a hermione fan. they probably had her wand and a gryffindor robe and tie and the only get up. they only read fantasy and romance. they haven’t read any poetry like ever and are very childish in the sense of young. say they’re gryffindor but are probably hufflepuff or ravenclaw. came to the marauders because of lily. Kins Pandora, Mary, or Peter,
2. the mature gifted and talented person. their room is probably decorated with books. they probably had a mermaid or a wolf phase as a kid (or both) and their room is still suffering the consequences with teal walls or something. They started reading harry potter at 8 and as the kid before, probably loved hermione. They definitely thought they were a ravenclaw or slytherin as they grew up before taking the potter more quiz and it saying they were Gryffindor. burnt out. probably bi but only found out when they were like 20 because they kissed someone their own gender. they have books scattered across their house and probably have records in their room. people always say they are old souls. they came into the fandom because they saw wolfstar fanart. probably was a percy jackson kid. they either would die for snape or torture him to death. kins james, remus, regulus, or lily,
3. the people who are not gifted and talented and are neither mature or immature. they act exactly their age. they probably read the harry potter books at 13, and watched the movies with them. Liked Harry or Ron growing up and probably always identified as either slytherin or gryffindor. they probably are indifferent towards snape but might have a liking towards him. came to the fandom because they liked sirius black and thought he looked kinda gay. (like them.) their rooms probably have merch from other fandoms whether it be anime or a tv show. they might be gay or pan or anything really. they probably kin Sirius, Marlene, Evan, Barty, or Dorcas.

SUMMER - 1988 - JAMES KENDALL
My name is James Kendall, most people call me Jim, and I was born in Meade County, Kentucky on August 2, 1940. I have one brother that is three years younger. My family has lived in this section of Kentucky since the Revolutionary War. With travel being restricted in this area until after the nineteen hundreds, I am kin in some manner to most people in my county.
I have been married three times and have what is now popularly called an extended family. Children, stepchildren, grandchildren of all ages, children younger than their nieces and nephews, instead of an extended family it should be called a nightmare for a genealogist. Perhaps I should not complain too loudly, that may be what keeps me young in thought.
I enjoy travel, the new places and people that you can meet. Somewhere out there just might be the most beautiful scene or the most delightful person that you may ever meet. It would be a shame for that to never happen. Some of the most interesting people that I have ever seen are the very young and the extremely old, the young still have not had their imagination suppressed and the old are extremely versed in the experience of what will work in life.
My mother had a positive influence on my education, she had only an eighth grade schooling, and felt that for me and my brother to amount to anything, we should have a good education. I think that to some of my relatives, it is still debatable whether it succeeded or not in my case. I have attended Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky and the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
Some of my earliest memories are of my mother reading stories to me of places that were so very different from the way that we lived. I could read at the age of three and I feel that my mother reading to me and her encouragement was responsible for my reading at such an early age. I started to school much younger than most children. When I was six, the age that most children start to school, I was in the third grade.
Literature has been an important aspect of my life. I enjoy any form of well written fiction. I have written short stories and poetry every since I was a young child but my writing never had the polish and professionalism that I wanted it to have. I had a creative writing course in college, but the only thing that I felt that I got from it was that people do not talk in perfect English and form that school teaches.
I am interested in any form of new technology. Computers and satellite receiver equipment are two areas that I am involved in. I have some very strong feelings about these two forms of communication being the soap box in the park for the twentieth century and any effort to stifle these forms of communication is a dart spot on our Constitution. With interests in these areas, naturally science fiction would be one of my favorite forms of reading. Two of my favorite authors are Robert A Heinlein and L. Ron Hubbard. I think that Battlefield Earth by Hubbard is one of the most interesting and powerfully written science fiction books that I have ever read.
Another author that I greatly admire is a native of Kentucky, Jessie Stewart. I feel that his writings of his beloved state has helped people in other areas understand the people of Kentucky. To me he has a very descriptive method that paints a picture of his characters, as clearly as an oil painting by a master artist. He is perhaps the one author that I would like to be able to duplicate in style. When I finish this course, if I could write with one tenth the clarity that Jessie Stewart did, I would be satisfied.
There are so many stories and tales in my mind that are waiting to be written, that at times I feel that they rule my life. I don’t feel that it would be a justice to the stories to write them in a form that would not be the best of my abilities.
Perhaps it is as Jessie Stewart once said of short stories, “in the future, short stories will be only for yourself and your family. There will not be a market for the general public”. If this were to be so, I still would like for my stories to be as well polished and professional as it possible for me to create.
I would like to be able to stir the emotions in people who would read my stories, if something that I write is funny, make them happy, if it is sad, make them cry, or any of the emotions between the two I would like to be able to have my writing read and like I said about Jessie Stewart, be able to say that I had painted a portrait with words. I live in a very beautiful valley in the country and sometimes early in the morning the day breaks with such beauty that you can almost smell and taste the day come alive. I would like to be able to convey that taste and smell into written word. This has not been an easy task for me. Of all of the things that I know and write about, Jim Kendall is on the bottom of the list
-written by James "Jim" Kendall

Hello, so good to see you back! You probably are very busy at the moment so only answer this if you have time. But I am very curious who your top 10 Harry Potter characters are? (Not just Marauders era but in general) I´d be really interested in your answer but as I said, no pressure ;)
eeeeEEEEEEEEEE this is a question that has haunted me all day
omg. I am going to do this right now after going to bed at 5am and waking up at 8:30am (shoutout insomnia), so please...please forgive my answers y'all. pls. I know these are going to be obvious and also probably stupid but....I am a simple woman
1. Lily Evans
-I mean. you might be thinking: she had literally no story or substantial characterization in the books clare! but if you're thinking that then you are on the wrong blog, what are you doing here, how did you find me in my hovel. go away. we don't want your logic here, boooo hiss hiss
-this is the princess of the world and I am but her loyal subject
2. James Potter
-also probably not shocking. 1/2 of Jily. the golden boy. the man who deflated his head and inflated Bertram Aubrey's. what is there to say about James Potter that I have not already said in a fic about James Potter?? I wrote the line "when hope left Pandora's box, it must have idled in the breeze for thousands of years, waiting for the day James Potter was born" for this bespectacled menace. I simp for this man at about a 50% rate that he simps for Lily Evans, which is still Significant
3. Harry Potter
-I know this is basic but,,,I love him. no like I love him. and I want him to have had a happy childhood and thus here we are,,,me writing fix-it fics and rereading the entire HP series and giving commentary to my favorite Harry Potter moments. also...there's no need to call me sir, Professor is just one of the sickest clapbacks I have ever heard. how can you not stan this boy? he had a shitty fucking childhood and just used it to be a Good person with Morals? like hELLO
4. Sirius Black
-my sweet multidimensional prince. you are so f--kin hard to write. why are you such a layered masterpiece of a character? why do you have such an incredible tragic heartrending backstory lmk??? like...you could have just been the witty cool guy with the Tresemmé commercial hair, but instead you had to go and become a statement on the radical nature of love in the face of generations of bigotry. wtf? who allowed this who do I talk to about this
5. Remus Lupin
-my beautiful tortured boyyyyyyy when will this man finally love himself, you ask? I cannot give you an answer but I love him enough for the both of us. shhhh not to spoil anything but I already have the scene written for Bond and Free in which he tells A Certain Someone about his Condition and it made me fucking cry writing it! RJL I love your weepy self!!!! I am personally going to Fenrir Greyback's house and beating his ass with a shovel and possibly a very ornate lamp on your behalf!
6. Minerva McGonagall
-the purveyor of Scottish representation and unflappable deadpan in the HP canon. my queen. I essentially want her to rule the world and I wish more people would gd listen to her. and no I am still Not Over the fact that if we had all just heeded her advice then Harry probably wouldn't have had to compete in the Triwizard Tournament and all of the 4th book messiness could have been avoided. I mean. that's what happens folks!! take notes, women are smart™
7. Ron Weasley-Hermione Granger
-I put the two Golden Trio pals together because I love them an equal amount, and also because Romione is superior, and also also because it was cruel of you to only give me 10 spots so I am cheating and making space. nobody said there were rules to this!!!! no but like...for real....who does it better than these two. who. I mean in terms of communication many people do but on a large scale of being Really Good Friends they are just top 5 ever. also powerful bookish witch with a himbo boyfriend? yes pls sign my ass UP.
8. Regulus Black
-I enjoy suffering
9. Bill Weasley-Fleur Delacour
-I would like these two to write a book entitled A Guide to Successfully Navigating the World as an Unreasonably Attractive Couple. also, Fleur Delacour popping back up after her rampant mistreatment (justice for her!!!) in book 4 to LITERALLY become eventual family to a mister Harry Potter? now THAT is what I call horizontal networking. if you know what I mean. tbqh I don't even know what I mean, I'm tired
10. Ginny Weasley
-I have been an OG Ginny Weasley stan since the age of six, people. my mom first read me and my siblings the Chamber of Secrets and I was just like ok! time to project my entire personality onto this minor female character! but seriously...what an arc. what a career. what a monumental cockup on behalf of Warner Bros Studios in representing her character. she is just SO dope and I love how she just Does Not Care about Harry's bullshit and is instead like "you're an idiot and I am smarter than you but also I support you and you're very hot" queen shit!
honorable mentions:
stan shunpike (don't ask), dean thomas, luna lovegood, Molly weasley, pretty much the entire weasley family sans percy!!! I am sorry my beloveds I just needed to rant about these characters more but ilysm
#I have no brain cells left#so sorry#ask#anon#thank u for this great question#also this is not based on who I think are the best literary characters#but basically who I like more#once again I am a simple woman

"Minerva saw Harry and Ron come out of the Chamber-- dirty, bruised, a crying Ginny held up warm between them. Madame Pomfrey swept Ginny away, and Dumbledore seized Harry and Ron, and Minerva let him.
She cornered Albus in his office later, because to yell at your subordinates or peers was something she considered unbearably uncouth; and he was her only superior. “How did we let that happen, Albus? How was our last line of defense Gilderoy Lockhart and two twelve year old boys?”
“And Fawkes,” added Albus, and she only didn’t hurl her hat at him because of the bow of his head over his desk, low and tired. The robed sag of his shoulders was familiar, and she knew how few people had been privy to it. To see Albus tired was a privilege. It made one afraid.
She didn’t say, “Why do you look like we’re still at war? I know that slouch. I know that sigh. Do you know something I don’t? Harry looks like James did, at the end, in the war-- are we at war, Albus? You tell me the truth.”
“We will have to write the Weasleys,” she said instead. “Apologize and explain all we can. I think Miss Weasley may have a tough time of it, and it will be better if her parents are prepared.”
“If you could handle that, Minerva.”
“Albus…”
“Thank you, Minerva,” he said, his voice kind, his voice firm and cheerful and final, and so she left him. A gouged leather journal sat small on the desk beside his curled left hand. Among all the detritus, paperwork, and empty saucers she didn’t spot it.
Minerva McGonagall had grown up on a farm-- dirt between her toes and morning chores like clockwork in the dim dawn light. She still liked getting up early, even if the chickens had been replaced by test papers and her father’s thick coffee by the house elves’ simple tea service.
She went back to her office. She reviewed the list of next year’s first years, noted which ones required in-person visits. She flipped through Transfiguration papers, turning her quill’s ink red with the flick of her wand. She pulled a blank parchment across the smooth surface of her desk and turned her ink back to black--
Molly and Arthur, she wrote, I am sorry to inform you that there has been an incident…
During the war, they hadn’t been an army. They had been vigilantes. They had been the resistance. They had been angry kids and furious adults, and Albus. They had had no uniforms, badges, pensions, or marching orders, but after every death Minerva had sat herself down and she had written to the next of kin.
Ginevra Weasley was in the infirmary-- she was breathing, she was eleven, she had never been to war. But Minerva had written Molly Weasley eight times in her life-- seven Hogwarts acceptance letters, and one informing her of the death of her brothers, Gideon and Fabian Prewett.
The Hogwarts acceptance letters Minerva had drafted over the years far outweighed the number of deaths she had quietly, diligently documented-- apologizing for every one, I am sorry to inform you--
Well, they outnumbered them. She wasn’t sure anything could outweigh them.
Minerva had stumbled home, that first night they lost a friend. She had washed off the dirt, and the ash, and had realized that if she didn’t write Benjy’s mother then no one would. Dorcas had had her battle plans. Albus had had his long game, his diplomacy and his tricks. The Potters had been children, and Lupin not much better, and the Prewetts had had a mission that midnight. So she had sat down in her soft nightgown and wrote an apology in her best handwriting, and then she had gone to sleep.
Molly and Arthur, she wrote, now, and she felt heavy writing it, felt tired and old. I am sorry to inform you that there has been an incident…"
-yer a wizard, dudley by dirgewithoutmusic/@ink-splotch
This Wizard!Dudley is about 30% Minerva McGonagall (and 15% in Nymphadora Tonks's) because spending 100% of your time in baby Dudley's terrible brain is exhausting.

💘 Greetings and congratulations! May I request a Harry Potter ship? Preferably male? Thanks in advance! 💞
I'm a plus sized Southeast asian girl with spanish descent standing in short stature (5'1.2"), medium wavy brunette hair with splitted side swept bangs that I sometimes tied in ponytail, oriental skin tone, and chocolate brown eyes, my fashion sense is in between boyish and emo plus korean glam look. People thought I'm a demure self-effacing immaculate woman that look so idealistic from my shy and distant nature (due to my protective parents, a reason why I've never been in a relationship) but the truth is, it's completely opposite, and my personality combines the common traits of a Libra woman, my MBTI, and the phrase "𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂" also tough and competitive on the outside but a softie filled with insecurities, doubts, frustrations, with fear of failure that pushes off the limits to prove or to please everyone and will fight what I stand and what I really want. My best assets are smile, eyes, personality, singing voice, artistic skills, writings, intelligence, and oratorical skills.
I kin Aerith from FFVII, Padmé from Star Wars, Oikawa from Haikyuu!!, and Umaru Doma from Umaru-Chan. In addition, I'm prone to melt over wholesomeness, fluster on compliments, and a great hopeless romantic. Blunt but the loudest idiotic feeling-brokenhearted friend in the group who fangirl a lot, makes corniest jokes/puns, cracks up on a daily basis, swears like sailor, will act like a jerk and a douchebag on people that we loathe, will laugh over your stupid antics before helping, extremely clumsy, daydreamer, and bring gossips, and tends to banter with sarcasms or pick up lines as an endearment (but gets grumpy if I receive it), still the supportive generous ball of sunshine after all.
I came from a broken family, that's why talking about divorce/separation/annullment is my trigger also religion discrimination because I'm religious too. Loves kittens, cartoons, watching YouTube videos (mostly pageants, ASMR, edit audios, and mukbangs), great foodie, chocoholic, also enjoys playing games on my sister's PSP. Sucker for arts, choir, night sky, makeup, fun/deep/dumb conversations, Christianity, documentaries (about saints, real crime stories, and inspirational people), reading interesting stuffs, talking about social issues, and writings, chilling both indoors and outdoors. 𝖨'𝗅𝗅 𝗂𝗇𝖼𝗅𝗎𝖽𝖾 making corniest jokes/puns, 𝗌𝗅𝖾𝖾𝗉𝗂𝗇𝗀, and dancing when nobody's around or walking like a model if I feel so bold (even I'm terrible at both xD). Things that I hate are stereotyping, HUGE creepy crawlies (spiders, toads, snakes, and cockroaches), firecracker sounds, being left out, loneliness, heart break, blackout, and judgemental people. One random fact about me is, I 𝗐𝗂𝗅𝗅 vent out EVERYTHING I despise in my entire existence---from bad soap operas to toxicity and worse scenarios in real life, because it's a big deal for me, and I consider forcing me to do what I'm not into and manipulating me as my major pet peeves. Currently learning how to cook and has so many interests, to the point I don't know what I'm into because my dreams to become a popular Filipino YouTuber, a novelist, and being part of a successful chorale...I also consider joining pageants too, but maybe.
thank you <3

18. Top 5 characters I most relate to -- This is hard because I usually don’t SEE myself in characters. That would require self-awareness. Which I try not to subscribe to, so.
Laurel Lance - Do you see a theme anon? A lot of Laurel (other than her taste in Oliver) is who I would love to be; if I wasn’t a huge procrastinator. And for various reasons, her season 2 arc, had elements that really resonated with me -- from her struggle, to her growth, to the lack of understanding but support from unexpected places that she found. On, a less depressive note -- we’re dorks who love to put fries in milkshakes and are good listeners.
Ronald Weasley - Wow. I kin with Ron so hard as a youth. Insecure, use jokes to hide behind, supportive, loyal, etc. We both like to eat. I think of everyone in the list, Ron was the one that hit me the hardest / was super formative.
Bonnie Bennet - I could say ‘user’ friends. But I think more the struggle and stumbling but working to find our own strength and value. (Laurel fits for the same reason)
Hana Lee - for reasons I really do not want to get into on tumblr.
I’m stuck between Ella Mills and Lois Lane.
19. Top 5 underrated characters
Tara Maclay. To this day.
Ronald Weasley. To this day.
Any black character pixelberry has ever created.
Black characters in the DCTV. John Diggle. Jefferson Jackson. J’onn. James Olsen. Kendra Saunders.Wally West. Actually, characters of color period: Cisco Ramon. I know I should pick one but I cannot.
Madi. Black Sails. (I feel the show could have done so much better re: the former slaves arc)
20. Top 5 overrated characters
Beckett Harrington - Most of Pixelberry’s lead white men
Kyle Ren. I don’t care. Boo. Your life was sad. Still murder.
Peter Hale. What was the hype, yall? Why did they try so hard to keep the actor on. He was a waste of screentime that ate other people’s developmental focus.
The Originals on TVD. And I remain bitter about it. They should have shoved them off to their own show ages ago.
Hermione Granger. /shrugs. I said what I said.
21. Top 5 worst characters (I am going to go with the best villains because you don’t deserve my angry ranting)
Killmonger
Illythia (Spartacus -- which reminds me top five dead, should’ve included crixus and naevia.) Honestly, all the ‘villains’ in Spartacus were SO good. I pick her because she still has my heart, just a bit.
Azula.
The Evil Queen (debatable. Because OUAT ... but man did Lana EAT)
This is going to come off as strange but the Kaiju in Pacific Rim.
Thank you for the ask anon!

Head canon #2 (Grimmauld Place)
Harry and Draco move in Post-War for a variety of reasons
1) It was the only place Harry got to spend any time with Sirius before he died
2) Since it is heavily warded, it’s easier to keep out those vultures from the Daily Prophet that want a piece of him every second of EVERY day
3) SPITE
What do I mean by “SPITE” you may ask? Let me break this down for you
Harry “Sassy Pants Half-Blood” Potter and Draco “Dramatic Gay Pure-Blood” move in to Number 12 Grimmauld Place
A QUEER pure blood dating a HALF BLOOD sends Walburga’s portrait into a long, loud, scathing rage fueled tirade so volatile that Harry uses the Killing Curse with so much force he Avada Kedavras that bitch off the wall
To this day, Harry won’t admit to Draco what he did with the portrait, any time Draco asks, Harry vaguely says that “Sirius would have been proud” of how he handled it
Harry and Draco go to Diagon Alley and buy the gaudiest, ugliest monstrosity of a tie and present it to Kreacher and boot his grumpy, annoying ass out the house
To further spite Walburga’s memory, Draco and Harry have loud, raunchy, passionate sex in every room of the house. Harry even gets Draco just buzzed enough to convince him to have sex on the kitchen table
Draco takes great pleasure in blasting Bellatrix off the Black Family Tree
Harry takes a shot of fire whiskey in Sirius’ memory and blasts Walburga off the family tree
It takes many hours worth of studying on Hermione’s part and the combined magic of Harry, Draco, Ron, and Hermione, but they create a Potter Family tree and link James and Sirius as brothers
Harry renovates Sirius’ bedroom into a nursery for when Teddy stays with them because he made a vow that despite losing both his parents, Teddy would have the childhood Harry and Sirius never had
Draco surprised Harry by painting a forest mural on one of the nursery walls that just HAPPENS to have a dragon, a kneazle, a white ferret, a two stags,a wolf, and a very large, very happy black dog
The Weasley’s are over OFTEN
Hermione is over as often as possible (very busy woman that Hermione)
After several years of helping Andromeda take care of Teddy, Harry convinces Draco to start a family. They adopt the most precious little boy whom, coincidentally just happens to have blonde hair and green eyes. They name him Scorpius.
When Scorpius is nine or so, Draco and Harry are asked by Auror Weasley to foster twin five year old witches of Irish descendant with red hair and green eyes whom have been recently orphaned while their case is being handled
Harry immediately agrees when he finds out that the twins’ names are Laruel and Lily. He may have hated Divination but that HAS to be a sign right?
A few months later when it comes to show that Laurel and Lily have no next of kin to go to, Harry asks Ron what all he can tell them about the case surrounding the girls’ parents
When Draco finds out that their parents died in a fiendfyre incident he practically begs for adoption papers
It takes a while but Laurel and Lilly are eventually theirs and Grimmauld place is full of laughter, toys, accidental magic, training brooms, and splendid memories
In short, Draco and Harry move into Grimmauld Place and live their best little gay lives while literally being the antithesis of everything the Ancient and Noble House of Black used to stand for

Kin (1/72): Chasing Dragons (Charlie Weasley)
Charlie Weasley always defied expectations.
He wasn’t the daughter his mother expected; he wasn’t the son who would follow his father to the Ministry. His parents were never disappointed in him, but they were a little bit confused by his decisions. That was especially true when he was at Hogwarts and doing so well at Quidditch some professional scouts came to see him play. “You could play for England, Charlie,” they said. “You could name your price.”
But Charlie had a different path in mind. He didn’t want to work in England, in Quidditch or anything else. He didn’t want to marry Nymphadora Tonks (to her great relief), even though they did really well together and got into scrapes and promised to take care of each other’s children. No, he wanted to get far away from a world where he didn’t understand himself.
He’d spent every moment he wasn’t in class or at the Quidditch Pitch with Hagrid, running after the groundskeeper and hearing about everything to do with animals. The best day of his life was his sixteenth birthday, when Hagrid, beaming with delight and awe, invited him to his hut, because Newt Scamander had come to visit the Forbidden Forest’s unicorn population. Charlie hung on the naturalist’s every word, and walked away late at night with a signed copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and an invitation to Romania the next summer to see a dragon preserve.
The first time Charlie stepped through the gates and saw a Chinese Fireball playfully wrestling a Welsh Green, he knew he’d come home at last.
Here nobody cared that he was a Weasley, only that he loved his family. Nobody cared that he was choosing a faraway home, they just helped him through the homesickness. Nobody cared that he was running to find himself, only gave him support as he worked it out.
The first time Charlie heard the word asexual, he understood everything.
He wrote long, cheerful letters home, one for every sibling. Sometimes Fred and George would try to trick him, responding to each other’s letters, but Charlie always knew.
After he met Harry Potter, Harry Potter who didn’t attack the mother dragon, just tricked her (which kept her pretty calm), Charlie wondered if he should write to him too. Ron’s letters were full of him, and all his other siblings talked about him too. Fred was particularly proud of the ‘specky scrawny git’, and encouraged Charlie to write.
But Voldemort returned, and Charlie got his first letter from Albus Dumbledore, suggesting that Harry needed to stay focused on survival. Charlie didn’t agree, but when his mother wrote in code to promise that Harry was being looked after, he swallowed his concerns.
Then the war came, and Charlie wasn’t eight this time, and he knew everything that was going on. He wanted to come home now, wanted to protect his family, but there was no way to protect them all. The Weasleys were scattered to the winds, fighting battles on their own, and it would be a miracle if the home fire would keep burning. All he could do was work internationally, try to make sure people who escaped found safe places, and pray.
Dora Tonks-Lupin was the only one he knew was safe. They couldn’t send owls, but the Romanian wizards had given Charlie a tablet he could write on and the person who had the other tablet could see it years ago as a gift, and Dora still had it. (Years later, his niece Roxanne would explain that this was largely how email worked).
Dora was pregnant—imagine it, pregnant. Charlie worried for her, his Hufflepuff friend who loved so strongly. She wrote daily, talking about all the bits and pieces of pregnancy and news. And when Charlie found out that the baby was due in April, he started making plans to return.
He got back in May, bringing with him as many witches and wizards as he could find to fight Voldemort. Charlie wanted to rush to Dora’s side, to see her little son, but there was no time. The moment they landed, they got word that a battle was starting at Hogwarts.
When Charlie and his forces landed at the edge of the castle grounds, Slughorn was there to meet them. He couldn’t tell them much; they had to focus on getting through the wards. But his eyes were heavy with grief.
Then they got in, and it was a blur of movement and fighting, and Charlie tried to count red heads—he saw his mother kill Bellatrix Lestrange—and then Harry was there, and Voldemort was gone.
And for one moment, Charlie was swept up in the joy of that moment, of seeing Voldemort dead and gone, and his parents were there, and his brothers and his baby sister, all grown up now, and Harry and Hermione…
And then Charlie counted heads. He took one look at George, and he knew.
He didn’t cry when he saw Fred, not at first. His little brother smiled in death, just like he used to smile in his sleep. But Fred’s hand was cold, and he didn’t speak when George fell silent.
Charlie turned to look around, wanting to get all the heartache over at once, to see them all. And his tear-blurred eyes fell on Tonks and Lupin, lying hand in hand not far away.
Charlie was the one who found out how they were killed, who had done it. He kept asking until he found out that Dolohov took Remus Lupin out at last. And Dora had found him, had crouched over him to protect his body from Fenrir Greyback, and she hadn’t seen Bellatrix Lestrange.
Charlie didn’t stay with his family that night. He sat in the Great Hall until sunset, holding George tight, watching Fred be still, so still, for the first time. But after sunset, he stood.
“I’ll be back,” he promised. And he left.
He found his way to Andromeda Tonks’ house, and heard the wailing of a baby. Teddy cried when Charlie held him, but Charlie didn’t mind; he was crying too. He sat with Andromeda Tonks in a house gone quiet without Ted and Dora, rocking an infant orphan.
Charlie found out that Harry was Teddy’s other godfather, and accepted that. His path was still dragons, and he couldn’t take the child so far away from Andromeda; it would kill her. But Teddy became another correspondent, even when the child was far too little to read. It didn’t matter—Charlie loved writing letters, and he’d lost a few of his addressees.
There were soon more, little babies Charlie saw four or five times a year at first, but he wrote to them all, once a week. It soon took up two nights a week, writing these letters, but it was how he stayed connected to his family.
Not all of his nieces and nephews wrote back as regularly, and some rarely wrote at all. But Charlie did have his constants—James, Molly, Rose, Teddy, and Lou. And he got one letter from each of his niblings about some secret, something they were confused about that they didn’t—or couldn’t—tell their family in Britain. Charlie soothed James and Rose about asexuality, guarded Molly’s girlfriend’s prophecy, promised that Lou could be perfectly happy without romantic love, wrote to Teddy or Maia, depending on how the letter was signed. For the others he encouraged schemes, supported dreams, offered advice and comfort, and promised each and every one of them that no matter what, Uncle Charlie was only a Portkey away.
And the day that Hermione wrote to ask if Hugo and his friend could come and see the dragons, even if his friend Ricky was a Muggle, Charlie took a Portkey immediately.
All his life he’d wanted to share dragons with his family, to find someone else whose heart beat for them the way his did. And he had a feeling from the way Hermione wrote that this kid was going to be family sooner or later.
