there are no "universal truths" in the marauders fandom, i hate to tell you. they are characters that were expanded on from literally nothing. like we had names and three facts each. just because your headcanon is popular doesn't mean it's true. just because you think of a character one way doesn't mean it's scripture. just because you don't ship something doesn't give you the right to tell others they can't. there is no truth to be found
#hp#harry potter#marauders#the marauders#yes this is about the sirius IS gay marlene IS a lesbian ppl#just because you think that doesn't mean everyone has to#and remadora is not a bad ship#j*r put it in for bad reasons but that doesn't make it a bad ship#i quite literally wrote my college thesis on this#fandom#i'm tired and old

why i prefer jegulus to jily
1. this is probably my main reasonâ lily isnât the kind of person to publicly dislike someone for years and then one day just go huh. heâs not as bad as i thought? omg letâs get married! it just seemed kinda forcedâlike some of jkrâs other heterosexual relationships *cough* remadora and hinny *cough*
2. also (itâs not a canon event but most of the fandom has accepted it as canon) james repeatedly asking lily out doesnât sit right with me. heâd respect her when she said no and wouldnât constantly pester her. heâs not that kinda person (in fanon anyways)
2. jeggyâs dynamics? hello? rivals/ enemies to lovers, best friendâs brother, grumpy x sunshine, thinks heâs unlovable vs loves everyoneâ i could go on and on
3. jegulusâs ANGST. its never fails to rip my soul out, tear it to shreds, set it on fire then put it back into my chest and do it all over again. iâm not saying jily isnât also heartbreakingâ it 100% is. but jegulus is just UGH.
4. also thereâs so much comedic potential with jegulus. siriusâs reaction? gets me every time. tie swapping? hell yes. slytherin vs gryffindor quidditch matches but theyâre just checking each other out? GIVE IT TO ME
5. platonic jily is one of the best friendships in the fandom imo. theyâd be that duo that had like a month-long relationship but are now just friends and get super embarrassed whenever itâs brought up. especially because i hc lily as a lesbian and thatâs just the cherry on top
i am by no means hating on jilyâ all ships are valid. itâs just my opinion so please. no hate

My opinion about Harry Potter Ships (2/2)
Wolfstar (Sirius Black/Remus Lupin): Beautiful. Just beautiful. They're THE Marauders Era couple. đ
Remadora (Remus Lupin/Nymphadora Tonks): I have to see the development in a canon couple to like it- and in the movie they were suddenly like "We're a couple now :D". So no, not my ship. đ
Jilly (James Potter/Lily Evans): Why not. After all, they both did bad things. "But Severus also did bad things" Yeah, he did. But James bullying him was also bad. So was Lily laughing when his "best friend" was being sexually assaulted.
Snilly (Severus Snape/Lily Evans): Before their bond broke they were good friends so I'm okay with it. Although sometimes I think they both deserve someone else.
Sirily (Sirius Black/Lily Evans): I didn't know the existence of this ship until now- but you know- it's nice. I like it.
Regulily (Regulus Black/Lily Evans): Wouldn't they also be called something like Starflower? Even the name of the ship is nice.
Remily (Remus Lupin/Lily Evans): I will only say the ship name â¨Moonflower⨠is beautiful as well as the ship.
Rosekiller (Barty Crouch Jr./Evan Rosier): Fics made me ship them đ
Bartylus (Barty Crouch Jr./Regulus Black): The fics also made me ship them ngl
Moonwater (Remus Lupin/Regulus Black): I prefer Sirius with Remus/Severus/James and Regulus with Barty but they're okay đ¸
Jegulus (James Potter/Regulus Black): I know it's popular, but I'm neutral about it. I don't hate it, neither I love it. I like some fics of them tho.
Jeverus (James Potter/Severus Snape): I LOVE IT! But just because I read fics where James changes before bullying gets too far and Severus turns into a Death Eater. And fics with them having a healthy relationship. If they were toxic in the fics I wouldn't like it.
Snirius (Sirius Black/Severus Snape): They're kinda like Jeverus and they are Slytherin/Gryffindor. I will only say that.
Reverus (Regulus Black/Severus Snape): Ooooh they're cute đ
Snucius (Lucius Malfoy/Severus Snape): Two Slytherins? One of them is a brunette and the other is blond? I LOVE IT.
Arthucius (Lucius Malfoy/Arthur Weasley): Dron 2.0 but in the previous generation. đ
Wolfdragon (Lucius Malfoy/Remus Lupin): I don't know what made me ship them, but I love this ship â¤ď¸
Stardragon (Lucius Malfoy/Sirius Black): They're- kinda interesting đ§
Lucissa (Lucius Malfoy/Narcissa Malfoy): They're literally the best "partners in crime" relationship of Harry Potter.
Jamcissa (James Potter/Narcissa Malfoy): If the ship is between a Malfoy/Black and a Potter, I'm in đ
Jucius (Lucius Malfoy/James Potter): I think the same thing as I said in the previous ship đśđś
Prongsfoot (Sirius Black/James Potter): Two Gryffindors? Friends to lovers? Gay wizards? Yesyesyesyes-
Moonbucks (James Potter/Remus Lupin): It's similar to Prongsfoot so yes đ
Narlily (Narcissa Malfoy/Lily Evans): The fanarts made me ship them ââ
Bellamort (Tom Riddle | Voldemort/Bellatrix Lestrange): I have the feeling they would be toxic so no. The only way I could accept it is if they were both sane enough to have a healthy relationship.
Belladolphus (Rodolphus Lestrange/Bellatrix Lestrange): Yes. they have to be together. Although I only like them if they're not toxic.
Quirrelmort (Tom Riddle | Voldemort/Quirinus Quirrell): I mean they could be a good couple if both of them (again) were sane enough to have a healthy relationship. Unless we're talking about AVPM- which would be a big YES.
Snarry (Severus Snape/Harry Potter): Nope. I see Severus as his father figure and nothing else.
Tomarry (Tom Riddle | Voldemort/Harry Potter): I headcanon them as platonic soulmates. Besides I ship Tom with Abraxas and Harry with Draco đ¤Ł
Bellamione (Bellatrix Lestrange/Hermione Granger): For me they're like the previous two ships. They would just have a platonic relationship.

All Lupin ships:
Remadora
Wolfstar
Snupin
thank you very much for the ask, anon - and yes, i'd say that's the order i'd rank them in too...
remadora
i've spoken about this one here.
wolfstar
here.
snupin
i have read and enjoyed some snupin, but i certainly wouldn't go so far as to say it was a fave of mine.
and the reason for this is that i find that it so frequently misrepresents snape and lupin's dynamic - turning the fact that lupin canonically stays away from the more egregious bullying the marauders do against snape and canonically defends dumbledore's trust in him into evidence that he likes or respects snape, but was simply unable to restrain james and sirius' hatred of him while they were at school [something he regrets as an adult].
while this gets a couple of things right about lupin as a character - that he cannot bear to be the bad guy; that he is unfailingly loyal to dumbledore - it fails to showcase others, especially the fact that he has just as much capacity for cruelty as the other marauders [this is a man who's ready to murder wormtail in cold blood in front of three children literally seconds after learning he's still alive] but that the mask of meek affability he has created for himself hides this much better than james and sirius' "what you see is what you get" personalities.
and it therefore also fails to engage with the fact that snape is canonically terrified of lupin. i seem to see a lot in snupin the idea that snape is so rude to him - especially in prisoner of azkaban - because he doesn't want to acknowledge his feelings or let anyone close enough to see the real him, and while - yes - that's a way of behaving that suits snape to a tee, it's clear in the canon text that snape's treatment of lupin is actually caused by his belief that lupin was both in on the scheme to lure him to the shrieking shack and that lupin is aiding and abetting the man who killed lily in his attempt to kill harry. and it's also clear that lupin really quite enjoys the fact that snape is scared of him - and that he goes out of his way to engineer situations where he can needle snape and revel in his response.
[and it's also clear that when snape has more of a... vibe with someone, he's happy to get in their face. him coming round to grimmauld place to neg sirius about having to do housework and hide is very much giving "i love you"...]
and so i think you can just do something so toxic with snupin's canon dynamic - with snape being, essentially, hunted by lupin. you can have it be really messy, with a really interesting power-dynamic. you can have both men refusing to be honest about themselves and their history, even as it destroys the connection they've forged. you can even untangle years of resentment and tension and have it turn into something real.
and i much prefer those scenarios to remus being sweet and just wanting snape to share his chocolate.

i did see that the wolfstar hate was bad for a while :( i hope you know we wolfstar shippers love jegulus and are supporting yâall through all the hate bc weâve been there. i remember the days when i would get death threats in my cc from remadora shippers⌠iâve been in this fandom for ten years and back then people hated wolfstar. i think wolfstar being the biggest ship sometimes makes people really jealous and they take it out on others but popular things are popular for a reason!! but yeah itâs calmed down but tbh sometimes people are so homophobic to wolfstar shippers. like âyou only post wolfstar your blog is shitâ like ?? so ??? loving wolfstar has worked for 10 years for me babe youâre not gonna change that!!! anyway sorry this turned into a rant lol
the whole thing with the hate is just,,,tiring at this point? it's not going to go anywhere and no one is achieving anything by just fighting all the time. i really wish everyone could just stay out of each other's business if they hate something, like yes you can discuss and dislike things but the amount of aggression i've seen on some posts is just,,,its crazy to me. neither side is in the right, ive seen shit from both, but the facts theres even sides doesnt sit right with me lmao. imma stay happy in my bartylus and wolfstar bubble for rn, thats what im happy about writing (and thank you, i hope any wolfstar hate you guys are getting dies tf down because its not needed)

HP canon debater & canon fanfics writer
I am in my 30s, genderfluid - she/they - Scandinavian, but live in the UK, and I am a long COVIDer/CFS/ME and lifelong PoTSer!
On this blog, I am (mostly) a canon-compliant Marauder fanfic writer - who likes to discuss the canon. I mostly ship canon (especially JILY!!!, Hinny, Romione, Tedromeda, Remadora) because I am boring, but I adore Prongsfoot and Sebinis, and Iâm not anti most non-canon ships if they are true to their canon characterisation.
I will argue and discuss canon with anyone who's interested. If you don't care about canon, fine, but you and I probably won't enjoy each other's posts very much.
I donât support JKRâs views (Read: I AM EXTREMELY ANTI HER VIEWS). I regularly question whether I should just abandon the fandom because of her (I have stayed away in the past), but then again, I have a strong emotional attachment to these fictional characters.
My fanfictions:
When we were up to no good - long fic that aims to be a canon compliant interpretation of the marauders - obsessively so, if I might add.
Never saw one without the other: a collection of one shots obsessing over Sirius and James' relationship
First betrayal - first ever fanfic - Jily (borderline Jilypads). Set during the first war as Lily discovers she's pregnant
Jily microfics
When we were up to no good
This long fic consists of 4 parts, and was me very much wanting more fics that are consistent with canon as per this post.
Part 1: I solemnly swear
Quote: 'No friendship is an accident'
We meet our cast of heroes age 11 and follow them as they become the dear friends we know them to be. James and Snape become sworn enemies. This part ends shortly after the big discovery.
Part 2: Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs.
Quote: 'The best memories come from bad ideas with best friends'
The boys really become that tight-night group we like to call the marauders: they set out to become animagi; Sirius and James become the popular, bullying gits we see in the Pensieve; the Whomping Willow incident happens and this part ends shortly after Snape's worst memory.
Part 3: Mischief Managed.
Quote: 'They say I changed a lot. I say a lot changed me'Â
The war has always been in the background, but it's at this point our story takes a darker turn. The Marauders face their last two years of Hogwarts, James does some serious growing up, becomes Head Boy - and of course, starts dating Lily Evans. This ends with our heroes graduating Hogwarts.
Part 4: Until the very end.
Quote: 'Â Let us live, since we must die'Â
One Order, a wedding, two childbirths, one prophecy, lots and lots of death, and one big, heart-breaking betrayal.

I actually think Blackinnon, Remadora, and any other ship with Sirius or Remus with a girl are not that bad. the way so many wolfstar stans will go ballistic if either boy is shipped with a girl is just so crazy to me đ

I've been thinking about how much I adore Tonks and Remus' dynamic but physically cannot ship them because my brain is being weird about their fucking age gap. this is so frustrating. they would have been so lovely for me if Tonks was like at least 27 in 5th book. Ronks (yeah I'm not calling it Remadora, Tonks hates her birth name ffs) would have been my ride-or-die alongside Jily and Wolfstar for sure.
because literally nothing else that Ronks antis consider deal breakers for them matters to me - not the fumbled way they get together in canon, not them getting married so quickly, not Tonks getting pregnant, not the assumed queer-coding of both characters (which I personally see, don't get me wrong. but it's assumed and who the fuck says they can't be queer4queer anyway?). sure, the nuclear family narrative being pushed so quickly and thoroughly onto them is peculiar but who says they didn't want to make the most of their time during a war? I love wartime drama and they would have been my shit if it weren't for... well. Tonks being 22 and Remus 35 when they meet.
I just can't ship big age gaps unless the youngest character is closer to 30 than 20. which is infuriating, because Ronks is objectively more fascinating because of their gap. my fucking loss, don't you think?
anyway, after thinking of ways I can make Tonks older without hurting the story, I began wondering whether her age is narratively important, and yes, turns out it very much is - for Harry.
Tonks being 22 in order of phoenix makes her the closest of Order members to Harry's age (Weasley twins don't count because they're Ron's brothers first, order members second for Harry) and the one Order member Harry can relate to the most in his youth and desire to fight. She almost perfectly parallels marauders and Lily in first war and represents the fun of the fight, the fire of youth, the confidence of a new recruit, the safety of relatability for Harry. She's one of the biggest inspirations for his newfound dream of becoming an auror. Harry needs Tonks among those older, battle-worn, cautious, secretive adults who don't take him seriously and never look him in the eye, because he wants to be what she is even before realising it and only reflects on it after spending time with her.
all in all, Tonks being 22 matters quite a lot for Harry's story.
now, we have no way of knowing whether Joanne came up with Ronks storyline prior to Tonks' introduction, but it shouldn't matter for their relationship, not in Joanne's opinion - Tonks' youth already fulfilled its narrative role in order of phoenix and stopped being an important asset of her character in half-blood prince.
oh, but unfortunately it still matters in the grand scheme of things, Joanne. you don't just introduce a young adult character (I'm 21 myself and gods, 22/23 is barely more mature), chuck their established age out the window and pair them up with a character in their mid-to-late thirties. and of fucking course it makes sense for a 23 year old to be down bad for some scruffy 36 year old man, it's incredibly realistic! this 36 year old man acting upon such crush is a little questionable, but still realistic (and we know Remus is very flawed, so I'm not surprised). but you know what isn't realistic at all?
Molly - a 46 year old woman, married to her high school sweetheart, mother to 7 children, 3 of which are close to Tonks' age - being extremely supportive of actually engaging in that sort of relationship, going as far as reprimanding Remus for not committing to it. I'm sorry, what? Molly might have some flaws as a mother, but she is nothing if not protective of her kids and those in their age range. She genuinely becomes somewhat of a mother figure for Tonks during their time in the Order, and I just cannot for the life of me understand how Molly could encourage her to pursue Remus and vice-versa, instead of consoling Tonks in her tragic crush and making sure Remus doesn't even look at her like that.
Minerva - an even older woman who taught both Remus and Tonks at Hogwarts, witnessed Remus becoming an adult from his graduation in 1978 up until 1981, then saw an 11 year old Tonks start Hogwarts 3 years later in 1984 - chiding Remus for not being "brave" enough to commit to such relationship. first of all, why the fuck is she involved in that narrative at all? it's none of her business??? she's not in any pseudo parenting role for either of them, unlike Molly, so I never understood why she even has a place to voice her opinion about their romance. second of all, even if it was her business, Minerva - a professor who witnessed both Remus and Tonks grow up so many years apart - would realistically feel pretty weird about such relationship.
those aren't problems with the ship itself, but rather the way Joanne implemented their romance in the story. I think it would be more realistic if Ronks was some kind of fucked up forbidden romance from other characters' perspectives. the way everybody is so instantly supportive of them is quite jarring to me.
interestingly, when I read hp for the first time at 11 I was quite adamant in my belief that Tonks was in love with Molly up until that scene in half-blood prince. a very weird belief for a kid, I know. I just only liked girls at the time and was relating to Tonks quite a bit since her introduction, so I guess I unconsciously decided she was a lesbian even without knowing that term yet. I also had a crush on my teacher in 4th grade and she was quite similar to Molly... yeah, this girl was projecting too much. I didn't pick up on Remus' queer-coding until I fell down the rabbit hole of lgbt discourse at 14, but was pretty shocked to read about Tonks falling for a man at 11. she was so like me until she wasn't :) it's pretty funny to think about now.
in conclusion, I'm hella jealous of those of you who don't have weird brains and can enjoy Ronks to their fullest potential. their canon writing has its issues but they're more interesting for it, truly. I'll stay in my no fun corner, headcanoning them as lavender married, queer-platonic, bisexual besties co-parenting Teddy Alastor Tonks.

I agree that Harry/Ginny are not a bad couple in theory but it does bother the me that the books make barely an effort to sell the ship - like their shared Voldemort trauma: Ginnyâs trauma (entire characters tbh) post CoS is ignored, the one (!) time they talk About it years later Harry forgot Ginny was possessed in the first place and the scene is not an romantic scene creates emotional intimacy between them, in HBP their romance is build on Ginny being the popular hot chick that everyone wants to date, Quidditch, jealousy and not having them any *on-page* interaction. After all she mostly removed from the important things in his life. In DH Harry is weirdly patronizing about Ginny not joining the fight and sides with Molly, when not wanting to be the coddled Little Girl is one of the Things we know bothers Ginny â and Harry doesnt have behaviour for Luna who is the same age as Ginny. Its giving very JKR vibes in the sense that she ,even after giving Harry/Ginny barely have any one on one scenes in the entire franchise , insists we are suppose to root for it, simply because SHE said so and what she says is The Word Of God, She Knows Best, no questions allowed LOL
You put it really well anon, I agree! I donât think they were developed well within the text and also⌠I donât think JKR is good at developing romance in general (groaning in Remadora). There is good foundation for them as a pairing but a lot of it is off page or not utilized to potential.
I think Harry trying to keep Ginny from fighting is similar to Ginny immediately retiring to have kids. In that, JKRâs own misconceptions about womanhood is bleeding through. She does the same to Tonks, she withers from not being with Remus and becomes Dora when they get together. A much more feminized name as opposed to the androgynous Tonks, because sheâs a mum now. JKR doesnât know what to do with women when theyâre not defined by motherhood or a man.

4. How many fandoms did you write for this year? (AFAIK you only wrote for HP, but I'm curious to know - how many different ships/kinds of fic? You have an impressive collection!)
I only wrote Harry Potter fic this year. Will I ever tip my toes in other fandoms again? I couldn't tell you.
But you are correct I do have a lot of variety. I've never really seen myself as a sub fandom girl. I love Harry Potter, so I love all of it, and it is hard for me to stay in one place for very long without wanting to reach out and explore another part of the wizarding world.
I'm pretty bad at tagging my fics so this isn't an accurate representation but currently on ao3 I have 78 fics posted.
Most Featured Character:
James Potter (44)
Lily Potter (40)
Sirius Black (36)
Remus Lupin (22)
Harry Potter (22)
Most Featured Relationship
James Potter/Lily Potter (33)
Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley Potter (6)
Teddy Lupin/Victoire Weasley (5)
Hannah Abbott/Neville Longbottom (3)
I have 4 fics about Harry and Sirius' relationship (3 of them AUs and one devastatingly canon)
I have 3 fics in my ongoing Order series (Dorcas and two Longbottom fics)
I have on jilypad fic
one remadora
one Regulus fic (lol)
One thing I learned this year is I don't really like writing muggle or modern AUs. What interests me most is understanding the wizarding world, the politics of the war, and the way grief and love are entangled throughout the series.
If I could have a thesis statement for my fics, while they vary in perspective and time period, and genre it would be what Harry tells Teddy in Werewolf Registration Act of 1947
"But more importantly," Harry continued, "fighting for a better future for others - for you - thatâs what he was doing. We shouldnât have to benefit from the possibility of a better future in order to try and ensure it happens."

that person sent you a bunch of headcanons and covered them in the kind of language that would rise alarm bells. what do they mean, the timing is "suspicious"? claiming remadora is "canonically toxic" (which is what people are doing, including them) is trying to hide the fact that they don't like the ship under "objective" reasons and trying to pretend everyone should agree that it's, at the very least, "suspicious". they don't have to like it, but pretending it's somehow nefarious is just trying to control the fandom according to their likes and dislikes. it's a harmless ship and the worst thing tonks did is being desperate because they were in a war and she was worried either of them were gonna die. this is stated in the books. they're paralleled to molly and arthur, who also got married in a hurry because of the war (this is why their "getting together" scene is immediately following dumbledore's death. the one who couldnt die just died). and pretending tonks was in the wrong for wanting to help remus or wanting remus to see that he was worthy of love is ridiculous. "she's not his therapist" is an awful, hyperindividualistic sentiment in this context: she sees that her friend is being self-destructive (he's taking more and more dangerous missions, even) and she tries to help.
people dont like the ship and arent interested in remus post-sirius' death. that's fair. but they could stop trying to frame remadora as a toxic/problematic/canonically bad ship and manipulating people with charged language to do it (when they dont straight up lie), bc all they're doing is directing hate towards a very small subsection of the fandom on the basis of headcanons and personal preferences. remadora's a perfectly fine ship. you (general you) just dont like it.
Hey I actually wrote another response to that person after reading their interpretation. While it differs to my own I understand how they reached those conclusions even if I donât necessarily agree with all of them.
I actually never realized the parallel to Molly and Arthur (I read the books when I was 7 up until about 13), but thatâs definitely something interesting to take into consideration.
I fear the way I framed the original post was aggressive because I wrote it emotionally (something I try not to do) but I do think that especially after reading @nbythegreat âs response the relationship between Remus and Tonks warrants constructive conversation in which we must all recognize that media interpretation is subjected and requires respect from all parties involved.
Some of their points I had forgotten about (I have not read the series in its entirety for about five to six years) and genuinely have me reframing the way I view it.
All in all I do think that itâs an interesting conversation to have, even a productive one, but in civil discourse we get nowhere through anger and slander and everywhere through listening and trying understand the perspectives of others.

For your anon who wanted more Sirius blog recs: I recommend anyone who ships Hinny and Remadora!!! I've never seen any bad Sirius takes from Hinny and Remadora shippers :)
canon ship fans have actually read the books, for one. theyâre likely to respect the canon iteration of sirius, in my experience!
as for the other 2 anons, iâm not posting you but yeah lol, itâs a shame! i am a remadora enjoyer and pretty open about it but it doesnât bother me when people dislike it. iâm just indifferent tbh đ

(psa this is mostly referring to the movies)
ive seen a few posts that have bothered me. i searched "remadora bad" on google to see what people were saying and it came up eith tumblrs and reddits etc and they were all really weird.
i recently got into the marauders fandom after reading atyd and being a fan of harry potter since i was a child, this fandom made me really happy because of the escapism it provided. many of us have loved hp and then realised its problematic aspects and seen jkr being the worst and no longer can escape with hp.. and marauders fandom is a much more inclusive and feels safe space. i do ship wolfstar and i want to get this straight because one post mentioned wolfstar shippers and it was definitely a weird take.
the post was about how women who ship two men together hate women because if theres a woman in the picture its always a crime against her i guess? they also touched on fetishisation of gay men in a way that seemed to be encapsulating all of these people into that message.
1. not everyone who ships two men hates women. i mean this is absurd đ it seemed much more like this poster was more anti fanon, which is odd. anyone who defends jkr instantly puts me off, i understand if someone is confused by not following canon when talking abt media.. but it shouldnt go so far as to licking jkrs ass saying "shes the author she knows bestđ¤đ¤" we know shes the author, thats half the problem. anyway, i understand this point but it didnt work in the context they were using it for (remadora/wolfstar). the marauders fandom has been criticised for misogyny, but the generalisation of shippers all having that belief is just untrue.
2. fetishisation of gay men is most definitely prevelant in shipping spaces but it goes eithout saying that an entire community of people wont all have the same views and opinions. from personal experience, i have always been wary of fetishising gay men and recently realised that my special interests being shipping different gay relationships has been involved in my gender identity. im not really sure of anything yet but i am exploring being actually a man or gener fluid or non binary.. as i said i dont know yet but i have realised that i have always put myself in these ships, wanting to be one of the men in them (of course this hasnt been the sole reason im questioning my gender). generally, i think shipping is very fun and just a great way of exploring romance in your favourite medias that represent you - which is what many people in the marauders fandom express. i do understand this concern though - fetishisation is a real thing and these ships shouldnt be objectified to be apart of that. i just dont think we should automstically assume every shipper is fetishising gay ppl.
nothing ive talked abt has rlly been abt marauders so far but i just wanted to set up some context and rant abt that post tbh.
as ive grown, ive realised how forced remadora was in the movies. i always felt like it came out of nowhere but i was a kid and i didnt care enough to think abt it like i just wanted to see harry running through the grass and shit. anyway, ive watched a few viedos abt the marauders fandom and about jk rowlings problematic writing and i have a few points to make about remadora and tonks' and remus' characters respectively.
in ootp, tonks is introduced as a fun, independent, and rebellious person. they arent afraid to speak out abt their name to someone more experienced in the field (mad-eye) and they have bright purple hair so obviously they r cool and awesome. they are a metamorphagus(?) meaning they can change some parts of how they look. i, and many others, see this as a symbol of trans teens. correcting the feminine "nymphadora" to a more unisex "tonks", the fact they can literally change how they look (perhaps showing their desire to change themselves ehich many trans people relate to), and their overrall childlike attitude. i think rowling makes tonks young and fun to show immaturity, therefore the transcoded character is sort of displayed as an immature teen that doesnt know any better (insert jkrs transphobic tweets here).
THEN in hbp the newly called "dora" is married. not only is tonks feminised by heteronormativity (a big aspect of stereotypical femininity is marriage) but their general appearance and attitude has changed. her hair is now like a light brown, and this natural colour i feel may allude to the natural order of womanhood is to maybe go through a rebellious gender non conformity teenhood, but eventually we all "mature" into our "natural" womanhood.. may be a reach buut?? anyway, their dialogue in this movie is very small - i assume its different in the book, but i feel like either way their dialogue would be similarly all focusing on remus (way to fail the bechdel test) which ironically is more represantative of jkr hating woman soo the ship they r saying is the anti "gay shippers who hate women" is one of the many symbols of misogyny in jkrs books.. i mean idk if i need to say this but a woman isnt defined by being married/with a man and i feel like jkr is trying to present it that way.
jkr seems to have unintentionally presented her transphobic views in the character of tonks. many people related to tonks because of their gender fluidity and hbp disappointed many with this character development.
now, the age gap between remus and tonks is 13 years which is gross. especially when you think about the more childish representation of tonks in ootp, like theyve been matured in hbp for the purpose of making the relationship less weird? idk but this is a point that really irks me because many ppl ignore this and always conclude that ppl who dont like remadora are just wolfstar shippers and also hate tonks because they r a woman. even if i hated wolfstar id still hate remadora because of this gross age gapđđ
another post was from like 10 yrs ago so, perhaps the opinions are just outdated considering jkrs problematic behaviour has become more of general knowledge in recent years but they basically were the common "he not gay jkr mad ehim be with woman he cant be gay đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤đ¤" .. jkr has made lots of promises she couldnt keep.. like the whole can of worms that is the time turners (no cedric diggory would not become a death eater please go back to bed omg) so it really isnt unheard of that she could make a gay character and then just.. ruin it?
she definitely didnt intentionally make anyone gay, because she ahtes gay ppl, but remus and sirius are very commonly interpreted to be queer coded. loads of ppl mention this, but even david thewlis (remus lupin actor) read the characters as lovers. many people saw them as lovers so thought remus was gay, then saw him marry tonks and felt confused. of course he could just be bi but jkr wasnt writing that i dont think lolz EVEN if that was the case, remus is meant to be a good character so why is he getting with tonks who is so much younger than him, to me it makes no sense. which is why many people think remadora doesnt make sense, why many marauders fans, including myself, dont see remadora as what would happen. like im not saying that sirius would be a live and blah blah because im referring to a still canon compliant story, it just would not include remadora and its weird energy.
also, jkr said once that lycanthropy was a symbol for rhe aids crisis (thats not a gay allusion at all đ¤). and hootsyoutube makes a great point about how this is problematic. remus lupin is not the only werewolf in the series, greyback is another one that is apart of the wizard nazis and was the one who bit little 5 yr old baby remus lupin. so.. this is very predatory behaviour, i mean he sliterally biting people (like a lion eating a gazelle or sumn idk r u getting what im putting down đđ). now, what is a harmful and highly perpetuated stereotype against gay people.. you got it - predatory behaviour. jkr connects the aids crisis to werewolves who are (except remus) presented as predators who prey on little children đđ amazing!!! SO jkr does allude to gay/bi remus buuut its also in a very evil very malevolent light because shes a witch cackling in the night
i hate canon dick riders because not only is the canon problemstic and jkr is evil BUT its literally a made up story... why do you care abt whats canon and ehats not? some may not get it but i love the feeling of being in the marauders fandom, where everything is just made up by us like its so whimsy so fun.
another post that rlly grinded my gears was saying "yall will complain abt remadora age gap but then ship snarry and snermione" which if ur referring to only ppl who ship this then yes you ate down very demure very mindful.. but it wasnt. why ar eppl generalising so hard like i know for a fact I do not ship that... thats pedofilia guys!! and i know most in marauders fandom dont either because most marauders fans i see rnt disgusting monster people? but they also used this to undermine the age gap in remadora, like no they r both bad both weird and the fact that one is by the author of hp is very telling
okay thats the end of my rant uhhh đĽ¸

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Thanks for the tag @charmsandtealeaves
How many works do you have on AO3? 74, but some of those are drabble fests/micro fics that are in the same fic.
2. What's your total A03 words count? 118,466
3. What fandoms do you write for? Just Harry Potter
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? (I'm skipping the first two here, because they're my Remadora Ficlets and my Fluffbruary stories) 1. Something Bad Rated M, Harry comes downstairs to make breakfast for Ginny's birthday, only to discover that Lily has shown her first instance of accidental magic and covered the kitchen in flour.
2. Not Tonight Rated M, My first Tedromeda fic! Written for the TTB Yule Bash last year and the beginning of an obsession.
3. The Truth Rated G, I didn't realise this one had so many kudos. It's Tonks telling her parents about Sirius' death and admitting to them about her situationship with Remus the morning after the Ministry.
4. When Pain is Over Rated G, Lily Luna gets an insight into what Ginny went through during the war.
E.) How Lily Luna Got Her Name Rated T, My attempt at answering the question, why was Luna the only living person the Potters named their children after?
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to respond to every comment, mostly because I love when authors reply to me. Sometimes I fall behind or I miss some, but I do my best.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angtiest ending? Probably Grief which is an exploration of Andromeda's grief after the war, or Don't Go, which is Tonks leaving Teddy with Andromeda. Basically anything to do with Andromeda losing nearly everyone she holds dear. 7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Too many to count, I love a happy ending!!
8. Do you get hate on fics? No I've never gotten any hate, but I do mostly write for a smaller ship that doesn't have a competing ship, so there's less opportunity for hate.
9. Do you write smut. If so what kind? I do, but I struggle with it. I much prefer a fade to black sometimes
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Nope
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before? No, I honestly don't know how I would go with co-writing. But maybe I'll give it a go one day.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship? Shockingly, it's Tedromeda. 15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? My Tedromeda Anastasia AU. I've written a couple of scenes but I don't know if I'll ever actually write it properly.
16. What are your writing strengths? The yearning haha
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Finishing long fics
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Love it when it's in other fics, not something I think I'll ever be able to do without a lot of help.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter
20. Favourite fic you've ever written? Haha this literally changes every day. Today it's Bad Idea
