Happy Sunday everyone! I had so many tags last Sunday and I had the best time reading/enjoying everyone’s shares! Today I’m sharing another snippet from my increasingly un-secret COBB. I’m putting it under the cut for sleazy harassment and non-con touching. I censored a name with ** just to keep certain details under wraps for a bit longer.

** slaps his hand over Dev’s mouth and pulls him close, grinning in the rear view mirror.

“Take your paw off my cousin right now, unless you’re prepared to lose it,” I suggest, my voice low, dangerous. Dev’s eyes widen slightly, and then he gasps in a breath as ** pushes him away, laughing.

“You’re the good one, aren’t you, Basilton?” ** teases, leaning forward. His seat belt isn’t buckled, and if Dev’s was, I’d seriously consider slamming on the brakes. If ** went through the fucking windscreen, the world would know no great loss. “Always living by the rules, doing what you’re supposed to.”

He’s touching my hair now, coiling a strand around his finger. I’m less offended than when he was mauling Dev, but it still makes my skin crawl. “You don’t know anything about me,” I say softly. Least of all how far I’ll go for the people I love.

“You have an aristocratic profile, Basil,” ** coos, his breath warm on my neck. “I can see the family resemblance.” He takes another glug from whatever cheap fuckboy liquor he’s got wrapped in that paper bag, and then I grimace when his lips brush beneath my ear. “I could be feeling very into cousins tonight.”

WIP Wednesday

Thanks for the tags @rimeswithpurple and @messofthejess. Your projects both look fab!

I am committed to posting "The Boy Next Door" by the end of September, so to keep myself accountable I am going to WIPSday it up more frequently. I don't know if I can share much more of Chapter 1, but I do think a behind-the-scenes might be cool. So, without further ado, here's the first two-page spread in my notebook for when I started planning. (Nothing spoiler-y!)

Given the premise of the fic, I realized almost as soon as I finished the outline and started drafting chapter 1 that I needed to be very, VERY sure of my setting before writing even one more word. Since Baz can never leave his home, most of the fic takes place inside of Baz and Simon's adjoining row houses, and as I imagined them moving about their rooms/homes, I needed a very clear picture of where everything was or my narration would get muddled. Hence, the detailed floor plans right down to the location of furniture and plants!

Another aspect of the fic that immediately became apparent (and that my fabulous beta @thewholelemon helped with significantly) was filling all the time. When one character cannot leave their home, they need to find ways to stay occupied, not just for days at a time but for YEARS. So, I sat down and brainstormed possible hobbies and life events and the next two page spread--which would be a huge spoiler--is a rough timeline of every year Baz has spent locked up inside his home and what he did during that time.

While I did a fair bit of world-building and prep-work in terms of timelines and setting locations for Eternal Life, it was nowhere near as involved as this. I suppose that is the drawback of a full AU where all you have is your imagination to help fill in the details. Ultimately, not all of what I planned made it into the fic, but it was very helpful when drafting. I frequently turned to my floor plans so I had a sense of Baz's surroundings as I was writing a very physical scene, or I referred to my timeline for in-world consistency or even just to have a sense of the feelings Baz might bring to a moment given his history.

Maybe all this work was a bit much, but when am I ever not a bit much? Can't wait to share more soon! Tags below the cut.

I have a lot of days off this week and I've been doing so much resting, writing, editing, and socializing. It's been everything I've needed!

Everything's getting closer to wrapping up WIP-wise. I'm so so close to being done editing all the chapters for Proof of Life and then the only thing I'll have to worry about is posting them. And the posting season for COBB is upon us!! I'm so excited see what everyone's been working on, and show my fic and the absolutely beautiful art from my artist!!

Here's a snippet from the next chapter of Proof of Life:

The Wavering Wood welcomes me back.  Or probably not… I doubt the wood likes me being there. I eat their deer. Rather, I’m welcoming myself back. The forest air fresher than ever, the sky bigger, the light brighter.  I take a deep breath, letting myself feel everything. The slight breeze in my hair, the packed earth under my feet, the scent of pine and dirt and blood. Crossing the drawbridge into the woods has never felt better. My fangs slot into place.

Thank you for the tags @monbons! And to @brilla-brilla-estrellita and @you-remind-me-of-the-babe for the tags on Wednesday. I’ve given up on ever being able to not describe a week as having been crazy busy, but I will say every time I get a tag I’m startled that it’s Wednesday/Sunday already. This year has gone so fast!

Anyway, I do have a little to share from my COBB with @rimeswithpurple, whose artwork is currently the wallpaper for both my phone and my ipad. I’ll add that the character in next chapter’s banner is just so cute I can’t get over it. Here’s a little Dev POV from Baz’s shop:

“I’m stressed,” I say, pointing to the word calming on the label.

The git actually rolls his eyes at me. “For skin. It’s calming for your skin,” he says, snatching the bottle up. “Like, redness? Irritation?”

“If it calms irritants, maybe you should put some on,” I reply coolly, leaning back in the large window seat at the front of the shop and crossing my arms. “Go on, Neal. Slather your whole self in it.”

Shepard sucks in a breath but Gareth snickers. Good man. I slide my eyes toward where Baz is perusing some book at the register, either accounting for inventory or reviewing a recipe, I can’t be sure.

“My name is Niall,” Niall seethes, his complexion taking on an interesting colour as he looks me up and down. It feels unpleasant, like he’s taking a measurement that’s coming up gravely short. I can’t imagine why, though. I look as good as ever today, in spite of feeling utterly knackered. My hair is shiny and lying perfectly as usual, and I’m wearing skintight leather trousers with a long-sleeved sheer top in a shade of blue that particularly flatters me, unbuttoned down to there. I narrow my eyes at Niall and return the judgement in spades. He looks sickly, and his otherwise lovely thick hair is pulled up into a bun that’s giving grandmotherly vibes. His eyes are a muddy shade of blue that can only mean he’s tried to spell the colour, and I’d bet my left big toe that whatever hue of brown they are in reality would suit him much better.

I also did a little writing (finally!) for The Field Trap, which is a sequel to Field Trip of Dreams. This is Possibelf’s POV :)

Davy doesn’t even look up as they push their way through the line to stand in front of him. “Simon, Basilton,” he says as he checks off their names. “I trust you boys kissed and made up.” If he hears the rest of the class tittering, he gives no indication.

The Pitch boy smirks like the cat who got the cream. “We did indeed, sir,” he replies.

“Good,” Davy says in a tone that implies they should move along and climb aboard the coach, but Simon is clearly building up a head of steam. He’s gone red in the face and although he hasn’t started smoking yet, that’s what’s always next when it comes to Basil. I take a deep breath with the intent to diffuse the situation, but before I can open my mouth, Simon has turned to Basil and taken him by the back of the neck.
