tw: gun violence (this is a long and detailed discussion of gun violence, so please don't read if that makes you uncomfortable!)
i don’t normally talk about this kind of stuff on here, but i’m frustrated and sad and am hoping that some people who read this will find it helpful. if you don’t have time to read, then feel free to skip to the last three paragraphs which contain the big takeaways from all this.
i grew up in a city that many people refer to as the “murder capital” of the united states and that has one of the highest rates of gun-related homicides in the entire country. i heard my first gunshot when i moved to the midwest at age 10 and i couldn’t tell you how many i’ve heard since then.
during the first few years of high school, we had annual 'intruder' drills, where we'd turn off the lights, close the blinds, and huddle in a corner until the teachers told us we could stop. after the parkland shooting in 2018, they started calling them 'active shooter' drills and we had them twice as often. our teachers stopped telling us to hide in a corner of the classroom and instead encouraged us to break the windows and run, do anything in our power to save ourselves if something ever happened.
over the years, there were a few public safety scares that caused our building to be locked down, but i found that the majority of the gun violence that affected our school manifested in ways that i wasn’t prepared for in the slightest. i had a classmate come to school with an untreated gunshot wound. i would see my friends wearing handmade shirts featuring the collaged images of relatives who’d fallen victim to gun violence. even since graduating, three former classmates have passed away after being caught in the crossfire of our country's gun epidemic. there were no drills or prep courses to teach us how to deal with the effects of that.
one the most horrible encounters with gun violence that i have personally experienced happened when i was sixteen. i was attending a neighborhood memorial for a five year old boy who had gotten ahold of his parents’ gun and sadly sustained an accidental and fatal gunshot wound. halfway through the memorial service, which was taking place in a local park, we heard gunshots come from down the street and everyone had to leave behind their candles, flowers, and teddy bears to sprint to safety. the gun violence in my neighborhood had gotten so bad, that we weren’t even able to mourn its victims anymore.
i’m bringing this all up because earlier today, i was scrolling through instagram and was surprised to see my city on a CNN headline. there had been a school shooting at the high school a few blocks away from my old house and it had left 3 people dead and at least 6 people seriously injured. hearing the news broke my heart.
i am currently living in the u.k. and it’s hard to describe to my european friends, most of whom have never been directly impacted by gun violence, why i jump when a heavy dumpster lid is slammed shut, or why i feel the need to sprint if i see a crowd of people running. my friends here will sometimes joke about the u.s. being full of gun-toting, trigger-happy texans, but that is just one caricature of our gun violence epidemic and does not capture the diverse experiences that so many of us have grown up with (and a psa to those who have never been impacted by gun violence — please try to avoid throwaway comments like the one above — gun violence is not a joke).
all this being said, to anyone who has read the news today and is impacted by what’s going on, please take care of yourself and your community. it’s okay to log off if you need to <3
and to all of those who want to channel their frustration into action, remember that the november 8th midterm elections are coming up and this is sadly one of the ONLY ways we can work to prevent further tragedy and fight for better gun control legislation in the u.s. if you’re american, register to vote. if you are an american and won’t be in town on election day or are living abroad, YOU CAN STILL VOTE. and registering is just half the job. make sure you head to your polling place on election day to honor that commitment. research your candidates, check which organizations they give their money to, and which give money to them. there are so many NRA-backed candidates that need to be voted out! keep an eye out for endorsements from people/groups doing the good work. send letters to your local, state, and national representatives. protest. share your own experiences. be there for those who are most impacted (these are ways everyone can help, not just americans!!)
obviously gun violence is not the only issue that is important for the upcoming election, but it’s the one that’s hurting me, my friends, and family the most today.

Wanted to watch the spy family movie tomorrow on the first cinema day, but uni won't let me Dx
Gotta give a presentation on Friday, and since I can't use PowerPoint gotta study more for it ;-;
If I don't prepare I stutter and lose my train of thought 😒
I'm gonna lose more than half of my day tomorrow working for extra credits, but at least I can listen to my podcasts throughout those 6-7hours
These midterms are lighter because next week is when the ones graduating will present their thesis so class isn't mandatory<3
Gotta watch one of these next semester, I'm halfway through my course but don't know what I wanna write about XD

Beautiful Anomaly (Part 5): Morpheus x FReader
Tumblr media
(Gif by hopeidontgetaddictedtothis from : https://at.tumblr.com/hopeidontgetaddictedtothis/dreams-subtle-sarcastic-smiles-throughout-this/dbi9r2a65h65)
Morpheus x FemReader (present day, its a little hard to explain)
A couple of disclaimers:
1.) This is all based on the Netflix show and I have 0 background on the graphic novel it is based on (so don't expect it to be faithful);
2.) This is a fan work, the only benefit I derive from this is sharing it with the community.
AN: So as usual the original text is too long to be in one post so everyone who is following Beautiful Anomaly will get Part 5 and 6 divided up so that it can withstand the tumblr textbox limit. Also fyi I will be using the same Morpheus gif because I am too lazy to find a different one when I was writing this. These will be my last posts before I officially go on tumblr hiatus for my midterm exams. Once again thank you to everyone who has been following so far.
For those of you who are new. I highly recommend reading the previous parts first because I don’t know if you will understand everything without first reading those.

Part 2:
Part 3:
Part 4:

"What have you found so far?" You and Morpheus soon meet up in your dreams the next time you found yourself free for a long amount of time. This time you found yourself in the "conference area" of Lucienne's library just beside the throne room. Morpheus quickly went by your side pulling up a chair.
"Which would you like to know first?"
"My daughter - is she?"
"She's fine." You release a breath you didn't know you were holding. You couldn't use your bond since your daughter unknowingly blocked it because of her unprocessed trauma. Because of that you could only feel pain, anguish, and the tears that she has shed.
To find out that she is fine was a relief, even if it was only a little bit.
"Her name in this lifetime is Ana Reyes. Like Emira she's been reincarnated as one of your fellow citizens in this lifetime. She just turned 7 years old a few weeks ago."
"Hmm...it's not unusual for some of my children to be reincarnated relatively close and accessible to me. It doesn't always happen but it's also not exactly rare. Are her parents okay?" At this his face became slightly more dour.
"They are placed in a coma spell that was intricately designed. I couldn't just force them to wake up since the spell requires them to wake up on their own. Any external force may damage their minds."
"Can't you gently guide them? To awaken?"
"Normally I would, but since it is clear that they are under a spell I will have to send Matthew to their location first to see if it can safely be done."
"Send him to me first before he goes there. I'll make a psychic bond with him so that we could both see through him."
"Of course." You take a breath and a drink of Taro flavored Milk tea - or as the western world calls Boba tea because only they would be ridiculous enough to tarnish a good hot cup of tea with milk which was only acceptable in the form of Boba or Milk tea in your honest opinion - before asking him more about your daughter.
"Do you know? What was causing her pain?" You see his expression and you can infer that he was preparing himself to bring you bad news.
"She was transformed, she isn't in a human form anymore." You feel your heart drop.
"Oh no."
"She is still capable of moving - she doesn't know what she was turned into but she couldn't move in the same way as before. She's being kept in a dark place."
"Hmm okay so we can rule out non-living things at least."
"There's more" You can feel the anger in his voice and his expression tells you that he is holding back his rage at the magic user.
"The magic user is named Mark Gal Lanes, he managed to get his hands on a copy of one of the spellbooks used by Burgess." Your eyes widen. Suddenly this mission might be more dangerous than you realized.
"Is it the same book that Burgess used to capture you?"
"No, but it is the book that contains the spell for the subconscious barrier."
"Does that mean you can't go into his dreams?"
"Not the current ones, only the ones before he casted the spell." Lucienne together with Matthew arrive on your table bringing a stack of books.
"Here is a copy of the spellbook you saw him use. And these other books are Taxonomy books. This book is for animals, this is for plants, this is for fungi, this is for mythological and fantastical creatures - "
"Wait why not include bacteria?"
"Bacteria doesn't have consciousness Matthew. It was only when I became a Eukaryote - after having been one for awhile - that I began having consciousness and when Dream here was born."
"But hold on mythological creatures don't exactly exist in the waking world."
"No, but they are formed from conscious and subconscious thoughts and are therefore considered sentient. Since Ana was able to still talk to me when I visited her dreams, and she could still feel herself moving, we can safely infer that she has been transformed into a being that has sentience and could move. Mythological and fantastical creatures shouldn't be ruled out."
"Perhaps my Lord we could also rule out fungi and plants for the mean time."
"Because they're not sentient?"
"No, Matthew. It's because they couldn't move in the same pace as animals and magical creatures can."
"Thank you, Lucienne. Matthew we both have a mission for you."
"Well of course boss, what am I going to do?"
"We're going to send you to the location wherein Ana is being held prisoner. Spy on Mark Gal Lanes and try to discover more about what he wants from Life and why he has taken great lengths to hurt Ana to get to her."
"How is your energy detection?"
"Better than before but not much yet."
"I see, Morpheus I think we could make a temporary enchantment to make it easier on him. There's only so much the senses can detect when we are dealing with magic users."
"I agree. But would it not overwhelm him? You're already going to put your psychic bond and concealment spells on him."
"Woah woah what do you mean psychic bond and concealment?"
"You know better than to underestimate the conscious mind. And to be fair the concealment is more external than internal so his mind won't really be overloaded. If he has the bond with me first then a lot of heavylifting will come from my end. Also it worked with Jessamy, what's one more?"
"You also almost drained yourself concealing her. I will not have you overly exhausted for this endeavor."
"Is anyone going to consult the bird involved waiting over here?"
"Do you think you can handle a spying mission on your own or would you like someone to accompany you?"
"Who did you have in mind? He's one of the few creatures of the dreaming that can survive for an extended period in the waking world."
"I was thinking of calling a friend of mine or two. Especially since Matthew is still new at this and we don't know how dangerous the situation is until we investigate the location in the waking world."
"Eh what could go wrong?"
"Many things."
"You could be shot, stabbed, beheaded, made into dinner, be used to get back at me and Morpheus-"
"Okay, okay, I get it. Look ma'am I know you're both looking out for my safety and also get your daughter back but I think I'll be fine."
"There's also the fact that seeing a raven around here is highly unusual since ravens don't normally fly around here - at least not the ones I know of - which is why putting a concealment spell on you is mandatory. Not only will no one question your disguise as one of the local birds but it will also gives a higher chance for you to do intelligence gathering."
"And the higher the chance to find Ana."
"Oh, um you know maybe having back up might be a good idea."
"Alright I'll message them."
"Who did you have in mind?" You both sense that you were starting to wakeup from your nap.
"Meet me in the waking world once I wake up. Both of you. I don't have classes anymore till next week."
You awaken and immediately message your friends in your GC noting that it is something serious that required some travelling and espionage work and if they would be available and up for it. Afterwards from your bed you remove your light green mermaid blanket wrapped around your legs and make your way to the open spaced area that combined the living room, dining room, and when the door was opened - the study room.
In the living area sat Morpheus with Matthew on the table on top of the fake fruits in a bowl.
"I've messaged them to see if they are willing. While waiting for their response, come to my palms Matthew so that I can put the psychic bond between us." He flies to your open palms as you take a seat beside Morpheus.
"Okay before you do this - and everything else that you are planning to put on me. Won't this interfere with my bond with Morpheus?"
"Not really."
"Matthew think of it this way." You feel Morpheus move a little closer to you. But then again you were holding Matthew so it could just simply be that and nothing more.
"It's like having two eyes with both eyes leading to a separate part of the mind for the mind to make a more complete picture."
"Or if you want a more updated equivalent - imagine inviting two friends to a livestream you're doing, the livestream is by link invitation only so you have control over who even gets in your livestreams, and they are the only ones there. But because you're doing VR we can now see what you're seeing."
"And feel what you're feeling, so keep that in mind. If you are injured in any way we will know."
"You know - that actually was a helpful analogy."
"This is more of a formality but it is important to me: Do I have your consent to place a bond between us?"
"Yeah I do. That's why we're doing this. But um why did you still ask?"
"I need to get consent from your mind. Without express consent it will be a violation of your will which may have harmful consequences later. I'm not about to risk that."
"Oh I see."
You take a moment to relax and you then place a bond between yourself and Matthew.
"That...was actually a lot more gentle than what I was expecting."
"Good, had I not asked for your express consent your mind would have tried to fight me off and it would have been a lot less gentle."
"Try sensing the bonds in your mind Matthew." You see him shift his head and close his eyes as if he was trying to feel around his mind.
"Would you like some help?"
"Maybe." You and he take turns into sending thoughts to Matthew through your individual bonds and you could see him slowly figure out how to differentiate and navigate between your individual bonds with him. Once he was able to shift between the bonds, and once you and Morpheus were able to sense what he was felt through his senses as a raven, you both relaxed.
The phone vibrates and you were notified that they were online and was available for a vidcon.
"It seems they are available for a chat. Would you like to meet them?"
"Who are they?"
"Friends of mine who might provide back up for you."
"Are you sure they won't mind?"
"Well we can't know for sure until we talk with them."
"Who are they?"
"They are my oldest friends, and I trust them with my life. Two of them are witches - or well that's the closest English translation I have for them - and one is a supernatural creature called a Mananggal, I'm sorry Matthew but there's no English translation of that word."
"One of the species who has adapted to living amongst humans but already had a human form?"
"Yes"
"Um what exactly is a Mananggal?"
"Essentially a supernatural creature who has a humanoid form but also has the ability to separate their upper torso from the lower legs and fly around hunting for human entrails.”
“Oh my – are you sure about recruiting um one?”
“Look I know it sounds gross, but that’s not their only source of sustenance. I’ve mentioned before that some of the local creatures were able to adapt into human society, mananggals are one of them. And I wouldn’t be contacting her if I wasn’t confident you would be safe. And the fact of the matter is, my daughter’s life is at stake. Since I cannot directly go there with you to a trap set up for me, the least I could do is send those I trust to help you.”
“Well um you have a point.”
“Let’s not keep them waiting. If you have any doubts you could always ask her, she’s more than happy to answer any questions you might have.” You then set up your phone before sliding the accept button for the video call in the messenger app.
“Hello guys, long time no see. Or heard.” You hear the three of them briefly laugh at your comment.
“We were waiting for you.”
“Yeah we thought you had an emergency makeup class or something.”
“No, just assuaging some new people here. Allow me to introduce the three of you to Morpheus, also known as Dream of the Endless and his raven, Matthew. If you could kindly introduce yourselves to them.”
“Hello I’m Dr. Nadia Katakutan, I’m a witch – in the general sense – psychologist, and counselor. “ A brown skinned woman wearing a black tanktop with a white blazer hanging on the chair she sat on waved on screen.
“Luce you’re up next.” A woman who had similar skin to yours but unlike you had a hint more of tan on her skin, and who had straight just past the shoulder length smooth hair in a half bun. She was wearing a pink blouse that had tasteful ruffles on the collar area that added to her youthfulness rather than make her look old.
“I’m Dr. Lucy Dimagapi, I’m a family med doctor and I’m also an OB-Gyn and – wait do they know about me?”
“Yes Luce, I told them what you are.”
“Oh thank god, I don’t have to hide that part.”
“Matthew here even has some questions that you could answer.”
“Not that I –”
“Oh I would be happy to answer them later.”
“Wait are you sure um ma’am?” She couldn’t help but laugh and you were trying to hold back your own chuckle.
“It’s fine, my family and I are used to it. Honestly it’s more annoying if it was coming from people who already know, but still continue to see us as just as mindless monsters.”
“Which you two can discuss later, Tala you’re up.” On screen a person with a pixie cut hairstyle with deeply tanned skin, a slim frame, big eyes and was wearing a black loose shirt which had their favorite band, My Chemical Romance placed on it.
“Hi I’m Talinghaga Bakunawa, no I’m not a doctor, I’m just a writer.” At this all four of you couldn’t hold back your laughs.
“Technically (y/n) is also a writer.” Nadia replies
“But she’s going to be Atty. (l/n) soon.”
“A title doesn’t mean you’re accomplished. It just means that you passed an exam or some sort of deliberation that grants you that title. Don’t feel intimidated by that Tala.”
You say in retort. It wasn’t the first time you’ve had to reassure Tala of this but you also know how it was one of their insecurities that you quickly need to assuage.
“Oh yeah before I forget, you can call me Tala, my pronouns are they, them, she, her, he, him, but I do prefer the masculine ones most of the time so when in doubt use those.”
“Likewise noted.”
“And I’m a witch, and I specialize in visual and empathic energy detection and spells.”
“And um what was Nadia’s specialty?”
“General witchcraft practitioner. Unlike Tala I can also do offensive spells. Their attacks are mainly from their Arnis training when we were still in our all girls school.”
“And – well – I can fly and, shall we say – obtain internal parts.”
“Okay guys, before anything else – I’m assuming you’ve all read or skimmed what I’ve sent you right?”
And that started the first of many discussions on how to execute the mission and what needs to be gathered from the first phase of the mission which is the covert intelligence gathering stage. One thing that everyone but Matthew had agreed on was that there needed to be at least one if not all three if possible – who would accompany Matthew in any intelligence gathering no matter how brief. Being outvoted and also being reminded that a.) this was going to be his first rescue mission; b.) he was new to the job and didn’t know what to look for necessarily; c.) he was a foreigner and there will inevitably be some nuanced cultural norms and mores that he couldn’t pick up on that may be a hidden clue; and finally d.) there was safety in numbers.
Since Nadia was well versed in making portals and have already created some inventions creating them, she just needs to explain the mechanics and deliver them to you, Tala and Lucy. Morpheus doesn’t need any since he explained that if he needs to be there he will simply use his sand. It was agreed upon that since the sand was too dangerous to be used by mortals – even those who could wield magic – if something went wrong and they needed to escape, he is simply a call away through his bond with Matthew.
In the day time, any intelligence mission would have Matthew paired up with Tala who was looking for any excuse to get out of the house and as a creative writing student would do most of the writing outside anyway. In the night Lucy would probably take the lead since her clinic ends at around 6 pm and she had a habit of eating heavy lunch meals in case she has any patient that needed an emergency. Also having a mostly empty stomach would make her flight easier. Mostly because she would still eat her favorite snack – Nature Valley Honey flavored granola bar – to avoid her stomach acids from causing her to be totally hungry.
“I also have a medical condition that makes it dangerous for me to be totally hungry so I need to have even just a snack digesting in my stomach to keep it busy and to not have the Hydrochloric acid destroy my mucus lining.”
“But how does that work when you – um – go flying?”
“It’s hard to explain but first there’s a magical mental partition that we ‘activate’ and that forms a magical barrier that allows the separation between the upper body and the lower body. This barrier is resistant to most things which is why when it is reattached its as if it wasn’t severed in the first place because the barrier preserves the functions of the organs when normally humans would just bleed out and die.”
“This is also why they are vulnerable to salt because salt penetrates the barrier and enough of it makes the barrier weak and eventually forms holes which would then lead to the bleeding out situation.” You added as you hand Lucy the portal device Nadia delivered to your doorstep.
“Luce hold still, I’m going to place an invisibility charm on you.”
“You do know that I have been able to do this covertly right?”
“I won’t take any chances when it comes to anyone’s safety. It’s why you shouldn’t part ways until you’re in the area. Now hold still and relax.” As you use your essence and energy to form the charm around her, Morpheus informs them of where Ana is.
“She’s in the neighboring province, in the more rural area as you can see in the map I’ve given you. Normally I could just appear within her location as long as I can sense that she is asleep. But given the circumstances it may cause more harm than good.”
“I’ll be honest boss this is a lot more isolated than where we’ve been.”
“The perfect place to lure and trap me into doing whatever he thinks I could do for him. Also it’s not totally isolated which deceives everyone into thinking that it is a safe quiet place that’s still accessible to the city and other essential services, but isolated enough that there wouldn’t be any accidental witnesses.”
“Or if there would be, people would just dismiss it as superstition or something else.” Lucy says after you’ve finally allowed her to move. All of you had a certain level of anxiety and nervous energy. This was going to officially be the first of many covert missions in hopefully rescuing your daughter and to gather why Mr. Mark Gal Lanes wants to capture you. The purpose of this first operation was to gather information and leave, err on the side of safety, and if Matthew and Lucy were lucky – possibly locate your daughter.
You feel yourself disoriented and a little dizzy – normal symptoms of having to cast a rather large invisibility charm – but it was all worth it to keep both Lucy and Matthew safe. As you try to steady yourself you feel Morpheus guiding you to sit down and Lucy quickly brings you a glass of water to help with the dizziness.
“You may want to take some of the motion sickness medicine pills you have.”
“Why don’t you just prescribe me some drugs you know will work?” You say tiredly with a bit of sarcasm blended in. It was your exhaustion talking and while the dizziness was reduced it was still there.
“Number one: I don’t know your complete medical history, Number two: your Aunt is already your family doctor, Number three: like you I would rather err on the side of caution and just remind you to take the medicine that I know already works on you.”
“And let me guess, Number four: you couldn’t be completely objective with me?”
“Bingo.”
“Wait so all this time if doctors are going to treat their close relatives they still take them to other doctors?”
“Yes Matthew, unless it’s a common cold or the seasonal flu, I would rather have someone else do the diagnosis of someone I’m close to so that they could receive better healthcare. I normally only make exceptions if it’s a matter of life and death.”
“But what about Medical insurance?”
“Unlike you Americans, we do the insurance discussion after the medical treatment.”
“You two can continue discussing this later. The time is just past dinner hours and it’s time for the two of you to go.”
“Lord Morpheus before we go, is Ana sleeping or awake?” Morpheus takes a moment to check.
“She’s awake Lucy, I can’t sense her subconscious. But remember she is currently in a different form. She doesn’t know what since she is kept in the darkness, but according the what she told me she could still move but it is unfamiliar to her. So be careful with what you interact with when you arrive.”
“Also when in doubt prioritize your safety, be discreet. This is just the first of many trips.” You add sternly before Matthew settles himself on Lucy’s shoulder before she presses the button on the device and a portal appears and they step through.
“Ugh”
“You need to lie down.”
“I can’t sleep right now.”
“It’s just to settle your disorientation. You cannot effectively use the bond if you are disoriented in your own mind. I’ve been telling you this since the days of my imprisonment.”
“It didn’t help that Jessamy was really reckless and stubborn too. I couldn’t help but worry.”
“Matthew is not Jessamy, he is far too careful to do anything that may warrant you to worry. And unlike before, this time he has someone else watching over him as they investigate the premises Ana is being imprisoned in. You can allow yourself to worry a less.”
From the expression of his eyes you could tell that he was pleading for you to take his advice. He may not openly admit it but you didn’t need to read his mind to know that he just wanted you to be more comfortable. It was already enough that Lanes and the imprisonment of Ana was causing you more worry than other normal things that you should be more worried about.
“Okay.” You were still too exhausted from saying anything more as you allowed yourself to be lead into the living are couch that you lied down on and Morpheus settled himself on the couch chair closest to your head.
“They are in, Lucy has not parted ways yet.”
“There’s no need for her to do that yet. I’ve enveloped the invisibility charm on both of them so they should be fine for just intelligence gathering. She’ll most likely start flying if there seems to be something she can’t reach from stretching and being on tiptoes.” From what you can sense from your end the entry way at first looked like a typical living area albeit cluttered and messy. No doubt there may not be much in that area since it was obviously lived in from the way the mess was. On the coffee table was a bunch of soda cans that were either empty or somewhat empty. And the throw pillows on the couch was arranged as if someone used the couch for sleeping. Cluttered enough to not be expecting a visitor but not too messy that it was trying to cover up something nefarious or to distract from something else in the room.
You suddenly feel a sense of shock.
And dread.
From Matthew through your bond as you all hear that there were people there and the house was not empty.
“Be still you two. Remember be discreet.”
Through his eyes you see Lucy nod and Matthew affirms that he has heard you.
“What do you mean it’s a surprise?”
“Ferdinand, once I am finished you will thank me.”
The first voice, from the boy named Ferdinand had responded with a yawn and the second voice with whom you guessed was Mark Gal Lanes was talking to him.
“Will you put me to sleep?”
“Of course”
“Will you sleep beside me?”
“If that is what you want.”
As much as you hate to admit it, his voice was tender and based from your observations so far you sincerely hope that you weren’t wrong with his voice holding no malice. He was already abusing your child you’re not sure how much you need to change if he was also abusing other children as well.
The two make their way from what appears to be the dining area to the second floor. Presumably for Ferdinand’s bed time. And through your bond both Matthew and Lucy slowly move around to explore the first floor. Nothing was in the supply closet under the stairs and the dining area had nothing noteworthy currently.
Lucy used her supply of Johnson’s baby oil and a black oil that was commonly sold in hardware stores to lubricate the doors and possible joints that may be noisy. Thanks to that foresight they eventually discovered from the backdoor view a separate garage storage that was three meters away from the main house. Fortunately it was a moonless night and your two agents slowly slipped out from the main house and used the darkness to conceal their forms.
“It’s locked.”
“Fly around to see if we could find an opening. I’ll try to pick the lock.”
“You can pick a lock?”
“If it’s the common door knob, yes. I’ll explain later.”
“So what happens if you can’t pick the lock?”
“Then I’ll use the teleportation device to transport us in. Now go see if there are any windows or openings in this building.”
“I thought that thing is for portals only?”
“Have you not been listening when Nadia was explaining?”
“Matthew, fly around.” You send through your bond before he gets lost in conversation. Unfortunately there were no openings for Matthew to slip in.
Fortunately Lucy was able to pick the lock with slightly less speed than her average time to make sure that they stayed quiet and discreet.
“Should we turn on the light?” Matthew whispered.
“No, that would alert him. We still don’t know the layout of the house and until then, let’s not do anything to alert him.”
“Well I hate to break it to you but I can’t exactly see.”
“Hold on I brought a flashlight.”
“An actual one? You didn’t bring your phone?”
“And risk him getting my actual legal information?”
“Okay, fair point.” Lucy turns on the handheld flashlight which showed a yellow light and they begin their investigation. At first it seems that it seemed like an ordinary garage. Various power tools, a back-up generator, solar panels, and other tools for repairing use of household problems.
“If only we could see through the boxes without tampering.”
“Hold on.” Lucy then pressed a button that not only changed the color of the light from yellow to white which served as a magical x-ray showing the contents of the containers.
“Wow! Nadia’s invention?”
“No, this one is made by the local witches and magical engineers as a carry on x-ray. Each member of the magical community once they become a part of the medical community would each get one of these for our birthdays or other annual celebrations as gifts. We also serve as the healthcare for the magical community and we couldn’t risk one of us being discovered by humans who are not part of it.”
“And now we are using it as something for spying.”
“It’s for a good cause, besides we don’t know what form Ana is in. Only that she could still move but it’s unfamiliar to her. So probably not humanoid. This may also show some broken bones in her new form.”
“If she would still have bones.”
“Keep your voices down you two, it’s almost above whispering level.” Morpheus says beside you, as he transmits it through his own psychic bond with Matthew. You were momentarily surprised by how close he was and how he has moved his chair closer to the area wherein you lay your head.
“Got it boss. Lucy, he says we’re being loud.”
“I’m the one whispering, you’re the one being loud. So far nothing out of the ordinary – wait.” Lucy paused as the flashlight revealed that a part of the floor turned out to contain a set of stairs leading downwards.
“Hidden door leading downwards.”
“Matthew, can you briefly check if anyone is coming to check?” Under your command he flies towards the door to briefly see if Mark Gal Lanes was approaching.
“So far, we’re good ma’am.”
“Okay, return to Lucy’s side and see if you two could find anything.”
“Any plan on what would happen if he does approach.”
“When in doubt, hide and be still. I made sure the invisibility charm on her and the disguise charm on you would also be magically discreet.”
“Got it.” He then flies to Lucy who has managed to open the hidden ground door and they make their way to the floor.
The room looked like an ordinary room at first. Like simply an extended storage space. But you see the thermostat attached to what appeared to be a stack of drawers to regulate temperature.
“Maybe now we could turn on the lights?”
“Do you know where the switch is or if it’s not set up with a hidden trap?”
“…So flashlight?”
“Yes, don’t worry this has a long battery life.”
“Alright.” From Matthew’s vision as he adjusts to the darkness and aided by the flashlight, you see a stack of monobloc chairs piled up. Two tables used to store a stack of books to on one and what looked to be a chemistry set of various science lab container and tools. Beakers, a set of test tubes on a test-tube holder, Bunsen burner, various shapes of laboratory flasks, among others. You’re not sure if it’s comforting or disturbing that none of them were holding chemicals.
“Matthew, over here.” Lucy calls as the flashlight in X-ray mode reveals a moving thing inside one of the drawers of a dresser near the thermostat.
“That might be Ana.”
“Be careful you two, remember she’s probably scared.”
“Got it boss – Lucy, Morpheus says if it’s Ana she might be scared.”
“Please be gentle with her.”
“We’ll do our best ma’am – Lucy, she says -”
“Be gentle?”
“How did you know?”
“I’ve known her for awhile. Now brace yourself, I don’t know what’s going on but be ready for anything.” Lucy switches the mode of the flashlight with yellow light and slowly opened the drawer.
“Oh um.” You hear Ana’s voice trembling. You couldn’t see her form yet through Matthew’s eyes but there was no doubt that Ana was there.
“Hello.” Lucy uses her gentle kid friendly voice.
“Are you Ana?”
“Um…who…are you?”
“My name is Lucy, I’m a friend of Morpheus.”
“You know Morpheus?” Her voice becomes lighter and hopeful.
“Yes, he sent me and Matthew to help you.” Lucy makes room for Matthew to stand on the edge of the opened drawer, now allowing you to finally see her.
Oh my.
Your poor baby.
She was a snake.
Ana was turned into a snake.
From what you could tell from the flashlight and from what Matthew sees, she was turned into a black ball python with gold flecks on her head and spine.
You could tell from her eyes that she has been terrified for awhile now and how she was coiled into a ball, she was trying to hide herself as much as she can. Characteristic of terrified ball python behavior especially snakes that haven’t full grown yet.
“Hi Ana, I’m Matthew.” He too also uses a more gentler voice in talking to her.
“You’re a bird.”
“That’s right I’m the bird of Morpheus.”
“You’re here to rescue me?”
“Soon.” Matthew says reluctantly.
“What do you mean soon?” Your heart breaks as you hear voice crack. If snakes could cry, you have no doubt she would have started by now. You wish you could talk to her and reassure her, but her trauma is still blocking your bond with her. For it to be cleared up, even just a little bit, she would have to willingly reach out through the pain.
So for now you’ll have to make do with indirect means. Especially now that she
“Ana, we’ll get you out. But in order to do that we need to make sure you’re safe when we do rescue you.” Lucy says reassuringly. Even though she doesn’t have a direct psychic bond with you, you could tell that she knew you were getting worried.
“But why not now?”
“Because this is our first time here, and we don’t know if there are traps that we don’t know about or anything that prevents you from leaving here.” At that point, Lucy stiffens.
“Matthew keep talking to her, I’ll just check if we have company.”
“Got it – Hey Ana who did this to you?”
“I…I don’t know. I was just playing with this little boy who looked lonely and he was new. And then the next thing I know I just woke up tied to a chair. And then this mean hairy man started asking me to contact my mom. But I kept telling him that I don’t know her phone number. And then he got mad at me and started saying something I couldn’t hear and then he started hurting me.”
“Do you know why he did that?”
“I don’t know – hmph – After he hurt me so much, I told him my address and tried telling him to check there, but he just got angrier and he…he…hurt me…over and over again. And then when I woke up one day, I didn’t have my hands or feet anymore.” You feel tears falling from your face as you hear her tell Matthew what she’s been through as she unconsciously begin to hide even more in her coiled body.
Every time her voice cracks your heart breaks even more.
“Well don’t worry, our team will get you out of here as soon as we can.”
“There’s more of you?”
“Yeah, there’s plenty of us. And we’re also going to handle whomever hurt you.”
“You’ll – you’ll punish him for me?”
“I’ll personally leave the punishment for someone else. But don’t give up okay. I’m not sure if we still have time but you could tell Morpheus more once you fall asleep alright?”
“Will Morpheus punish the mean hairy man?”
“I think you better ask him that yourself.”
“Matthew time to go.” Lucy says as she quickly shuffles towards the drawer containing Ana.
“Ana, you’ll need to be strong okay? We’re going to plan your rescue, but until then tell Morpheus what’s happening to you okay.” Lucy tells Ana as she readies the teleportation device in one hand.
“Can’t you take me with you?”
“I wish we could but if we were to take you now, without knowing anything, we might accidentally harm you.”
“Yeah what if Mr. Meanie is the one who could turn you back to a little girl again?”
“Oh”
“We’ll get you out, okay.”
“Okay Lucy.”
“Goodbye for now.” Lucy closes the drawer both swiftly and carefully knowing that it held Ana. Matthew flies ahead and Lucy follows behind taking large steps.
“Are you going to make a portal?”
“Upstairs, there’s magical energy on this floor and I would rather not risk it.” When they reached the top of the stairs and once Lucy makes sure to close the hidden door, they make their way out with Lucy locking the door. They hide into the darkness and were momentarily stilled as they hear Mark Gal Lanes unlock the door and go into the garage.
“Should we stay a bit to see what he does?”
“It’s almost dawn. We risk losing the cover of darkness. As much as I want to find out, its dangerous if we stay longer.” She opens a portal and they quickly emerge back into your apartment. You sit up as they go towards you and Morpheus.
“What did you find in terms of the layout and magical things that we should be aware of?”
“Main house or the garage?”
“Main house, I have a feeling we’ll have a lot of data for the layout of the garage.”
“Right, as of now, nothing magical or suspicious in the first floor. But I suspect there might be something on the second floor. I don’t know if it’s the traditional charm or something else, but until the second floor is investigated we won’t know for sure.”
“Okay, so along with the back and front door, the windows on the first floor is too small for a human to escape.”
“So probably a route for Matthew or something smaller than a human.”
“Yes, and there are also railings so even the thought of breaking it with typical means wouldn’t make a wider opening.”
“Alright, the garage?”
“Magical energy is on the floor Ana is in. So far the only entrance and exit is the flight of stairs and I feel like it was dug underground. And the garage itself only has one door but the walls on the upper floor are typical garage walls, so with the right amount of force they could break down if need be. I still don’t know what specific charms or barriers are present in the basement floor but there’s definitely a strong magical energy there.”
“It seems we’ll have to start spending more time on your energy training Matthew.”
“Um what do you mean boss? Like right –“
“How is she?” You couldn’t wait any longer. You needed to know more about her since you couldn’t even use your bond to connect with her. Lucy looks at you with a sad expression.
“I don’t know much about snakes but she looked underweight. She only has a waterbowl in there on a bed of shredded mix of tissue paper and coconut husk. That’s all I could see from my first viewing of her.”
“Oh no.” So even as a snake she was only given the bare minimum of care. The thermostat to make sure that there was a different temperature to provide for a cold spot, water bowl for hydration or a bath, and who knows if her bedding has been cleaned for feces.
“The room has minimum airflow provided by a fan and a vent connected to the vent on the first floor of the garage.” You didn’t have words. You were too shocked to do anything but allow your tears to fall as you covered mouth.
“Life.” Morpheus goes to your side. You turn towards him and see that Matthew has settled on his shoulder.
“I know you can’t use the bond with Ana now. Shall I arrange for the two of you to meet in the dreaming?”
“Yes please. But only if she is comfortable. Ask her first, the last thing I want is for her to be overwhelmed and hide from me.”
“Honestly (y/n), I think your presence is really needed. She was so scared. When I opened that drawer it was as if she was trying to hide and make herself look smaller. It’s almost as if she was was trying to find a way to make herself invisible.” Signs of abuse, it didn’t needed to be said but it was on everyone’s minds by the expressions they had.
“I’ll be with you, I’ll help ease her into it.” He momentarily pauses before continuing.
“She’s about to enter the dreaming.”
“Maybe ask her first if she would like to meet me. We still have time and her comfort is takes priority. I do not want to add anymore unnecessary discomfort to an already uncomfortable situation.”
“Understood.”
“Also I think Matthew should join you in her dreams so that she would be assured.”
“Of course ma’am. Don’t worry I’m sure she won’t mind meeting you.”
“If she wants to meet you, is it okay if I summon you from your own dreams?”
“Yes, or maybe I can linger for awhile in the palace? Maybe in Lucienne’s library? Also the meeting place should be in a neutral area so we don’t disturb the comfort in her own dreams.”
“Will an area in the palace grounds will do?”
“Yes, but let her choose. And don’t rush her.”
He nods before he and Matthew make their exit and you turn back towards Lucy.
“Rest here in one of my guestrooms for awhile before you go.”
“Are you sure? I could just use the device to go back home.”
“Please I insist. You need to be well rested before your shift starts.” You say in a tone that doesn’t allow room for further argument. Lucy needed to rest and if she needed a change of clothes both of you were relatively similar in size. She could just wear a belt to tighten some clothes because they will inevitably be larger on her slimmer frame compared to your curvy one.
That evening as you settle in bed, you slowly feel yourself falling into a deep sleep and found yourself in the palace gardens with you lying down against the cool grass and surrounded by beautiful flora both flowering and non-flowering. As you sat up Lucienne walked towards you.
“Good evening ma’am, are you well?”
“Overall yes, but I was expecting to be in the library – has Morpheus told you about what he plans to do?”
“Yes ma’am, that’s exactly why you were redirected here in the gardens instead of the library.” You feel your eyes widen.
“He managed to convince her?”
“I wouldn’t entirely know but I have a feeling you might be meeting
Ana a little sooner than you expected.”
You suddenly feel something within your consciousness. Slowly throught the bond you have with Ana you could feel her reaching out to you through the pain and the trauma. It’s not enough to have the bond accessible again but it was enough that you could sense that she has entered the garden from somewhere you couldn’t see yet.
“Morpheus it’s painful.” Your heart bursts as you hear her voice from a distance.
“I know it’s painful little one, and you may be lost in the pain. But what else do you feel?” She pauses.
“Warm…I feel warm Morpheus. But it still hurts.”
“Be still, think about the warmth. Ignore the pain as much as you can.”
“How do I ignore it when it’s always there?”
“The same way that you create your dreams. Your imagination.” As much as you want to run towards wherever they are, you know you have to stay still and wait. Morpheus was slowly helping her reach out to you in the bond and move past her pain and trauma just enough for the two of you to regain the connection that was blocked by her trauma at the hands of Mark Gal Lanes.
“Lucienne, can you please send a message to them?”
“Why not go to them yourself? They are in the garden now.”
“Morpheus is teaching her how to reach out to me so that we could connect again through our bond. If I go to them now whatever progress he has made for her will all be for naught. As much as I hate waiting, she needs to come to me. I can’t do anything until she herself has removed the wall of pain and trauma and to do that I have to stay still. But I do have a suggestion I want to make for her and I need a messenger to do it.”
“Then why ask me? I’m sure my Lord would respect whatever messenger you create.”
“Simple, you’re the one of the few he couldn’t afford to waive off entirely. Certainly not on front of a child at least.” Lucienne gives you a look that showed that she has decided to concede since continuing this argument would lead to no where. And it was clear that this message has some importance to you that you’re not moving from your stance or spot.
“Very well, what is the message that you want me to deliver?”
“Don’t ignore the pain and the trauma, use them to fuel you towards my warmth.” You wanted to add ‘From your mother’ but it was a little too soon for that. She is probably still a little wary and confused by the connection you two have, although now she knows it exists. Lucienne gives you a brief nod before heading behind you towards wherever they are now. You don’t turn around to follow wherever she is headed. It would just tempt you into following and increase your impatience.
While waiting, you decide to gather the lilac and tulip flowers on front of you as you imagine up the journal you kept in the dreaming and decide to write a few rambling thoughts about what they may taste like if only they were edible and safe to eat in the waking world. As you let yourself relax despite the wait, you could hear Lucienne arrive wherever they are.
“She has a suggestion for Ana my Lord. I’m just acting as her messenger.”
“And what suggestion is that?”
“‘Don’t ignore the pain and the trauma, use them to fuel you towards my warmth.’ These are her exact words.”
“Using my pain? How do I do that?”
“I believe what she means is that if you can’t ignore it, then let that be the fuel for your imagination.” And this is why you specifically asked Lucienne to be the messenger. She could help clarify and explain what Morpheus may sometimes be too verbose to say.
“Huh?”
“Here let me clarify. What do you do when you touch something so hot it hurts?”
“I remove my hand as fast as I could.”
“And do you remove your hand faster than you normally would?”
“Yes.”
“Then it is the same with how you should approach reaching out towards her. Allow yourself to feel the pain and the bad memories, and let those things push you towards the warmth you feel through the bond you two share.” Lucienne finishes as Morpheus remains silent.
This may take awhile but relatively speaking there was still time. Even if she couldn’t reach out to you right now there will hopefully be more nights wherein both of you are in the realm of the Dreaming. Feeling hungry, you dream up a picnic set and you lay down the classic red and white picnic blanket and the food that came out of the large picnic basket included a large one liter thermos of hot ceremonial grade Matcha tea; one tupperware containing a type of brownie called “Food for the Gods” made up of dates, walnuts, white and brown sugars, and butter; still steaming hot egg sandwhiches; Spanakopita, one of your favorite greek pastries that was filled with a delicious spinach and feta cheese mixture; Tiropita, because no matter what vegans have said you didn’t have the heart to give up eating cheese and eggs; and finally another one liter thermos containing distilled water to wash down anything that the matcha tea was too hot to move.
You were in the realm of the dreaming, no one was there to make fun of you for eating a lot nor was your mother in this lifetime there to body shame you for potentially gaining weight from the type of food that you chose to indulge in.
As you were pouring yourself a cup of hot Matcha tea, you feel a breakthrough in your bond with Ana. Your advice definitely helped since she used the pain to allow herself to remove the barrier of pain that was blocking your connection with her.
“Hello? Are you there?” Relief filled you as you can finally use your bond once again.
“Hello Ana, can you feel me and my warmth?”
“Yes, but who are you? Why do we have this connection?”
“I will tell you in person. Use the bond to find where I am.”
“Um but how?”
“The more warm you feel the closer you are to me.”
“Okay.” You don’t have to wait long now for her to find you. You are seated closer than what she thinks. And through the bond you could see that Morpheus and Lucienne have allowed her to take the lead. All of them knowing that it is vital that she is the one who finds you first.
Soon you feel her enter the general area of the garden that you were in. She hasn’t seen you yet so you take this time to turn around.
She was in her human form in her dreams. Black straight hair tied into two pigtails, brown skin, large round eyes, round face and a rather chubby frame. Dressed in what you guess is her favorite pair of pajamas that were red with white Hello Kitty faces all over it.
“Are you near?”
“Trust your feelings.” She closes her eyes for a moment. Then finally she turns to face your general direction.
And she opens her eyes.
And she runs towards you.
“Hello? Are you really her?” You give her a warm smile.
“Hello Ana, yes I am her, please have a seat on the blanket.” She sits cross legged next to you as you pour another cup of Matcha tea.
“Who are you? Why do I have a connection with you?”
“I am Life incarnate, and in your first lifetime in this world I was your mother. This is the reason why we have a bond.” Her mouth opened and stayed that way until you offered her a cup of water.
“This is my second life?”
“Yes dear, you reincarnated and are living life once again.”
“Then how come you’re not my mother again?”
“I don’t know. I am still rather young and I’m not ready yet to be a mother again. But Destiny or the Fates must have a purpose of why you are once again alive. But enough about that.” You give her a Spanakopita and you watch her take a small bite, realizing how good it actually is, and then taking the largest bites she could to devour it.
“There is something else that you want to ask me.”
“Is the mean hairy man after you? Is that why he is hurting me?” You wish she didn’t have to be involved with whatever battle this is. But you can’t afford to keep her in the dark forever.
“Yes, I’m sorry you had to be involved. I didin’t even know that you had reincarnated until I felt your pain as he hurt you.”
“Do you know why he’s after you?”
“No, I don’t. But it’s very clear that he’s using you to trap me or force me to do whatever he wants to do. This is why Morpheus and my friends have to make several trips before we can rescue you and return you back to your human form.”
You wanted to say more but you can tell through the bond that she was starting to wakeup.
“What – what’s happening?”
“You’re starting to wake up.”
“No – NO – I just met you.” She stands up and almost falls back if you hadn’t caught her in time to help steady herself.
“Don’t worry, we still have many more nights and dreams ahead of us. Just don’t lose hope okay? We’re working to rescue you.” You say as reassuringly as you can as you knelt on front of her, and yet knowing that she is about to disappear soon.
“But – “ she fades away from the Dreaming. She has awaken, and through the now restored bond you can now sense that someone has entered in the room she was in. Based on the footsteps it must either be Mark Gal Lanes or another adult.
Whomever it was didn’t stay long, and just opened one of the other storage furniture in the same room. Got what was needed, and then proceeded to exit the room.
She’s trying to go back to sleep, but she’s too scared to be able to return to the dreaming anytime soon.
“Thank you Morpheus.” You say as he appears beside you and in your periphery you see Lucienne making her way back inside the palace.
“You’re welcome, it seems your advice was exactly what she needed to hear.”
“Sometimes we all need a little help every now and then to reach our goals.” Something was on his mind. You didn’t need to see his face but the aura he had been unconsciously projecting was hard to miss.
“Sit with me, there’s something in your mind.”
“…You will not take no for an answer. Would you?”
“No, the sooner you can express your thoughts and hear them, the sooner it may be resolved. This is why sometimes I talk to myself, even if other people may think I am crazy.”
“You are aware that I hold the unconscious thoughts of every being capable of such things.”
“All the more reason for you to tell someone what you feel. Before you might confuse your own actual thoughts with the subconscious of the universe.” The two of you sit in your picnic blanket. With a waive of your hand all the food, drinks, and utensils were back in the basket and the picnic blanket now allowed for more room.
“Don’t worry I won’t judge.”
“I appreciate the reassurance.”
“Then take a breath, and let your thoughts flow out of you. I went to sleep later than usual so we still have some time before I awaken.” He briefly closes his eyes, takes a breath before turning to sit facing you.
“Despite not being my first encounter with children, I am still startled by how quickly it was for her to deal with the pain following your instruction through Lucienne. Somehow it seems I have missed that step, for I now realize that I tend to ignore my pain instead of allowing it to fuel myself into doing more. Whenever I try to allow myself to feel, I just become overwhelmed by the weight of my domain. And so the only way that I have found to cope was to bury it and ignore it for the sake of clarity. Paradoxically, based on my recent experiences with regaining my power and dealing with the recent vortex issue, it seems to be the very thing that hinders me from learning more. Tell me, is it really that simple? When all this time I only aim to do the duties given to me for as long as I could recall.” When he has paused indicating that for now he has finished his thoughts, you begin your response.
“No, it isn’t simple. You are not wrong to bury most of the unconscious thoughts that passes in your mind. That in itself is not inherently wrong. I’ve done it to the memories that I posses that now make up a mental library from all my previous lifetimes. If I had not done that then I would be too overwhelmed to actually live and be alive. Sometimes we need to put a barrier between the thoughts that pass by us, the thoughts from our past, and the thoughts we now possess and what we actually think. Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to do anything at all beyond simply dwelling.”
You pause first taking a breath and also to make sure that he was still following your line of thought and was still listening to you.
“But just because we’ve established barriers for the sake of being capable of our functions, it doesn’t mean that we can no longer learn from the feelings we have from them or that they are no longer capable of giving insights that may affect our perspectives. The skill that is needed is how to do that without being overwhelmed by it. To lose control and to lose yourself among the vast thoughts brought to you by the universe we live in would close you off not only to others, but also to the present.”
“Speaking from experience?”
“More than you could know. As much as Death likes to believe that she has a sufficient grasp of life, she doesn’t have to deal with the conscious thoughts of actually living life. And had I not put my own mental barriers for my own sanity, I would simply be stuck as all life simply goes past me. More than what an introvert could handle even.” He scoffs at your last statement.
“You? An introvert?”
“Yes, I consider myself an extroverted introvert. I still like to socialize but if I do it too much then I will need some time with myself to compensate for the loss of energy. That doesn’t mean I am not energized by the presence of others, I still am, but there is a limit or a balance to it. Too much time with others drains my social energy and too much time on my own leads to thoughts of loneliness that may be remedied by the presence of others.”
“An ambivert then?”
“Perhaps, I am about balance after all and I need to be both social and reserved.”
“My point is that it is easier for a child who is still so open to the world of the imagination to simply do things. It is something I sometimes wish I have it in myself to do and yet it almost seems I would lose who I am and therefore lose control.”
“Then you may want to find someone who could guide you through that journey. Allowing yourself to lose a little bit of control without losing who you are to the vast unconsciousness.” Once again he looks at you with an expression you don’t recognize and yet it’s one that has been appearing more often as you two talk more and more.
“What are you thinking?” He goes closer towards you but leaves just enough distance to respect your personal space.
“By any chance would you be willing to be my guide?” You raise your eyebrow at this request.
“Why me? I’m sure there are plenty of others who could also guide you.”
“And who do you think would be better suited more than you?”
“Calliope, Psyche, Quetzalcoatl, Odin, must I really go on?”
“If you are about to list deities which deals with the widom and the mind then I’m already going to have to rebut that they are still insufficient to be my guides.”
“And why is that?”
“As much as they are qualified to give wisdom and knowledge, I need someone who knows of such struggle, many of the beings you have suggested deal mainly with only human standards of wisdom.”
“Then how about Calliope? She was your wife and perhaps that intimacy could help you with what you are asking in exploring emotions.”
“Calliope and I have a recent understanding…while we are greatful to each other for our marriage, and while we do still care for each other, our days as lovers are over. And even her functions as the Goddess of Epic poetry and chief of the muses, even she wouldn’t be able to be a sufficient guide.”
“Have you asked her?”
“Life, please, you are the best to guide me. With whom I feel comfortable with and whom I know has experienced something similar.” Just in time you feel yourself beginning to wake up.
“Let me think about it first. For now let’s focus on Ana okay?”
“Very well.”

Moms who study tips:
Tumblr media
About an hour ago, I got a comment on my ‘about me’ post asking for advice on how to study while being a mom. Since I’m sure someone else out there might need these tips too, I’m gonna post it instead of a directed comment reply. Don’t worry, I’ll tag the person who wanted the tips so they can see as well.
It should also be noted that the tips and trick I’m going to share were learned by me the hard way. Some might seem like common sense, but they weren’t to be.
Here goes:
1. Find the time of day you work your best (early morning, later morning, afternoon, Erving, late at night)
2. Once you figure out this crutial part of yourself, find a way to be able to either have an entire block of that time free or at least an activity your kids can do that is more child led than mom led
For example, I work best late at night. I always have. So, I make sure my kids are in bed by nine with no stimulation (yes, even on the weekends). This way, I can study and complete assignments when I know I am in the best state of mind to do so.
3. This one is crucial EAT ENOUGH FOOD!!!!
Like seriously. Make sure you are fueling your body on more than sugar and caffeine. I made that mistake at the junior college level. I was burnt out by midterms and dragging ass the rest of the semester I went from all A’s to having a low C due to simply not having the energy to even attempt the assignments.
4. DON’T try to be super mom. You will mess up, forget things, or even fall asleep while your ment to be enjoying family time. But it happens. You’re using up a lot of brain power just to be able to handle your course load. The important part is not to let it get to you.
5. Study where you’re most comfortable.
I know conventional understanding is that you need a desk and chair. But, I do all my work on my bedroom floor. Not only am I able to stretch out an use a variety of poses, but I also can spread multiple assignments out and still have room to move freely as I wish.
6. Don’t stress the small stuff
Since I have been at university, I have tried so hard and done well for myself. But, I also have a problem with striving obsessively for the 100%. I cried when I got an eighty-nine out of ninety one because to be, that was a fail. If. I don’t get the highest mark possible, I don’t feel like I understand the material. It was only after my freak out that Dr. Gares explained to be that no one is meant to get a perfect score because she grades tough. This is so, when you go to upper level classes, you are prepared for the nit picking way those professors will do their own grading.
7. Ambiance music
Studying should have to be silent. And, as a mom, you won’t be able to niece that silence often enough for a productive study habit to form. When I first started using ambiance music (from YouTube) I used it to distract me from the sounds of my then toddlers platingtogether in the next room. Now, I use it as a cue to my school-aged children that ‘mama’s trying to do her school now’ (yes my kids call me mama. No it’s not weird. They just hate the word mommy)
8. YouTube is your friend
There are so many educational videos or series on YouTube to help boost what you are studying/learning in class. I LOVE crash course. I even watch videos or classes I’m not even in. Just so I can learn something new that isn’t a part of any necessary work.
That’s my short list of tips and tricks as I can think of them at the moment. If I think of any more, I’ll let y’all know through another post like this one. How you find at least one of these helpful as you find your way through your educational journey.

Q & A Interview With A CAVA Alumnus
By Sulana S.
Tumblr media
Pictures of CAVA Alumni T. Spencer in Redondo Beach, C.A., Wednesday, November. 16 th , 2022 by Sulana S./The CAVA Voice
As high school students, it’s always comforting to see how those who were once in our position have succeeded in the real world. It’s even more helpful when the experienced come back to support and guide us on our own journeys.
I conducted an interview with a CAVA Alumni, T. Spencer, who is currently completing his 4th year of college at UCLA. He is earning a degree in Bioinformatics, also called Computational Biology, and a minor in Chicana/o studies. In the interview, Spencer answers questions that were submitted in a CAVA Voice survey by various students, in 10th , 11th , and 12th grade, about different topics such as college lifestyle tips and advice about classes.
Q: How long were you in CAVA? A: I was in CAVA for 6 years. I started when I was in 7th grade.
Q: Is it better to take AP classes and be stressed and overloaded with work, or take normal classes and get straight A’s easier?
A: In my experience, it’s better to take AP classes because they help prepare you for the fast pace of undergraduate classes that you will face in college. They’re also very important because universities want to see that as a student you’re taking the most challenging classes that you possibly can, even if you don’t do as well in them as you might have in a college prep course. It’s important to show that you’re trying and taking advantage of the most rigorous classes, like Honors and AP, that are offered by your school. For example, when applying to college, you would appear to be a stronger candidate if you earned a B in AP U.S History rather than an A in general U.S. History.”
Q: What about making the switch from online school to college presented the biggest challenge, and what about CAVA best prepared you to succeed?
A: “I would say the biggest challenge I had to deal with when transitioning from online school to college was the no longer having the comforts that I had in CAVA. It was a big adjustment having to consider the amount of time it takes me to walk from class to class. UCLA is a really big campus, with a lot of hills, so it was a huge change from getting to my classes through the click of the button versus having to run to them just to make it to my lecture on time. I think the thing about CAVA that prepared me to succeed was the rigorous course load that they give students and the amount of independence that is expected. To me it seemed like compared to other freshman, who attended brick-and-mortar schools, that were in my classes, I had less of a hard time adjusting to managing the heavy workload and having less one-on-one attention with a teacher. I was already somewhat used to managing my time and homework in a way that would allow me to not feel like I was falling behind. CAVA’s expectations, although very stressful in high school, were good preparation for the expectations that most students get shocked by their first year of college.”
Q: What should CAVA seniors be doing now to prepare for the leap to college or life in general? What is helping you keep up with university?
A: “One thing I think CAVA seniors should do now to get ready for the transition into college is to start getting used to a certain study routine that would be more efficient. For myself, I’ve realized that it’s so much better if students study a little bit each day, for every class, that way when there is an upcoming midterm or final, you won’t have to try to cram everything in the night before. Of course, it’s always extra helpful to study the weekend before for the test, but if you get used to studying some portion of what you’re learning every day you will remember it a lot better. At a school like UCLA, which runs on a quarter system, there are a lot of midterms for each class and not a lot of time in between them, so it’s a lifesaver to study a little bit every day because you might not have time to cram for three tests on the same day. Another thing I would have liked to prepare for when I was a senior at CAVA is to know that there will be some very difficult classes and challenges you have to get through. You won’t always get a perfect score on everything and it’s easy to let a bad grade get in your head, but it’s just one grade, and only a fraction of your overall success in college.” “In addition, as a college student I’ve learned that to keep up with the university-level workload I would rather tackle my assignments during the week when they are assigned rather than leaving the homework to catch up on the weekends. It’s definitely a lot of work and can be hard to manage everything, but it’s a lot better than trying to squeeze everything in at the end of the week like I have seen some of my classmates do.”
Q: If given the chance of having only one class during senior year, what would you do? Would you take part of the class the prior summer to graduate early or would you stay and take college courses in the meantime? Or is there a different scenario you would take?”
A: “In my opinion, if someone is interested in applying to college, it’s expected that students don’t ‘cruise’ during their senior year. By that I mean that universities want to see that you didn’t lighten your workload just because it’s your last year of high school, and you only need a few credits left to graduate. It’s important to show colleges that even though you could have taken an easier class schedule your final year, you still took it upon yourself to take on challenging classes and further your education as much as possible. For instance, my senior year was probably the grade that I had my heaviest workload. I believe I took four AP classes that year along with an honors class and an elective. So, to answer the question, in my opinion I would use my senior year to continue to take difficult classes and be able to have that to make my college applications even stronger. I’m not really sure about how this would work if you only need one or two classes, but I do have some family members that did dual enrollment, so they took classes at a community college at the same time as finishing high school. Maybe you could do both. I wasn’t in a big hurry to graduate, so I just paced myself to finish at CAVA, but I have two cousins that did dual enrolment. One of them finished high school and graduated with a diploma and an AA from the community college. After that she went to a UC. Now she’s at an Ivy League college back East for grad school, so it seems like it worked for her. I don’t personally know anyone that just took a couple classes senior year and then got into a college.”
Q: What do you think made you stand out? Do you think that being in an online school and applying to college made you look a little smarter or more studious? Do you think that being in an online school allowed you to prepare for the college life? Do you think that being in online school affected you in a positive or negative way when it comes to social situations?
A: “I think what made me stand out as a candidate for colleges was the balance of extracurricular activities to rigorous classes that I took all through high school. My senior year I had really hard classes like AP English, AP Spanish 4, Honors Physics, and Calculus. So, as a candidate I think my schedule spoke for itself, but I also had some extracurriculars that were maybe different for other people. For example, I used to volunteer at the library in my neighborhood, tutor elementary students, study guitar and train in martial arts. Maybe it wasn’t as many activities as other people, and they were not directly with the school. Looking back on it, I think it would have made me a better prospect if I had taken some school leadership or school community activities like ASB, newspaper, or a club. I can’t say if I looked any smarter, but when I wrote my essay responses on the applications, I made sure to say how my extracurriculars showed my commitment to the community and personal growth. I also think my classes and activities showed some discipline, which is big at CAVA because so much of what you do is independent, just like college. I think the online school helped prep for college life as far as academics, because CAVA classes are hard, and I remember having to be really organized. For the social part I think it depends on the person because lots of UCLA students really try to make college friends and keep the social life as a priority. That was a little different for me because I have a close family and my college is in the same city, so a lot of my free time is with them. Also, I got into a mentoring program where I do undergraduate research and that helps me meet people but honestly, it’s a lot of work and takes up a lot of my time. There are a lot of student groups on campus so if you got used to joining clubs a CAVA, college has a lot of them too.”

Let’s Talk: Is it time to fukin LARP homies?
In minecraft of course... but in all seriousness with a basically illegitimate SCOTUS with the 6-3 loaded in a barrel, shooting down every civil protection we have at the moment, Jan 6 hearings being worse than Watergate, and the growing number of hate crimes recently...
It’s time to know the basics: From Voting to Defense
1) Voting (of course) but not only in the general elections, you should also be aware in the midterms, special elections, primaries, referendums, school board, etc. Talk to your runners and canvas for them if ya can.
[ Check Voting Registration | Check Elections news/updates | Check States’ Voting ID Laws ]
2) Donations, this can be anything ya care for, there are a like hundreds of orgs to donate to. A lot of shit is happening everywhere so please check your sources thoroughly.
does anyone have a donation spreadsheet or something? I would love to share that.
3) Know your neighbors, say a quick hello, take a gander at your surroundings (spot a confederate flag yet? I sure have), lurk on your neighborhood’s facebook page for all I care. Take time to look at your local news or your state’s reddit page. July 4 is coming soon, see which neighbors to lean on in case of emergencies. (Yes this also includes natural disasters).
4) Mindful protesting (no brainer), how to safely protest ya may ask (or not)? You’ve probably seen the protester chart with the Hong Kong protester decked out in all nines.
Tumblr media
yep.
[ How to protest safely | Know your rights | Know your rights video | Wired | What is Mutual Aid? | National Bail Fund Network | Guide to police ‘Kettles’ | dognotman’s How to Spot a Kettle ]
5) Resources & First Aid, this is very broad, but it’s resources we should have whether it’s physical or instructional.
[What are Burner phones? | How to remove Metadata | American Red Cross First Aid Steps | First Aid Certification Class | Riot Medicine pdf | How to prepare a First aid Kit | Army Field Manuals ]
6) Protection, ya know this was bound to happen and no this is not some  ‘take over the government shtick’,  this is to ‘protect your self if some rightoid militia gets antsy and starts parading in their big ass SILVERADO for your upcoming death in your neighborhood’ (:
To reiterate, KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR(s). If you live in a decently sized town/city, join some communities like your local chapter DSA or SRA or something
[ Democratic Socialists of America | Socialist Rifle Association ]
Tools! I mean why do conservative get to have all the ‘fun’ right?
Yes, Im pro-2nd amendment, Yes I’m down for adequate gun laws, No I do not like open/conceal carry (doesn’t matter if ya have a permit) in public spaces.
Check your state’s weapon laws, sign up for some training, hell take up martial arts/self defense classes. Know what best suits you. If you KNOW that you’re not at the mental capacity to handle a knife, gun, pepper spray, etc then do not get one. If you have someone you deeply and I mean deeply trust with your life, ask them to get proper training and invest in a tool of some sort.
While you yourself can either invest in first aid, body armor (do know that everything has an expiration date), stun flashlight, the lil keychain defense thingy’s | home surveillance, or car surveillance (great for insurance actually).
[ Knife laws state by state | Gun Laws state by state | Pepper Spray laws | Stun Gun laws | Taser Laws | Self Defense Laws by state (1) (2) |
Arm Your Friends | Armed Equality | How to clean your gun |  | How to choose the right body armor | Basic Gun Safety |
Great Youtubers to watch for Gun / gun control / gun safety
Tacticool Girlfriend | Beau of the Fifth Column gun/gun control series
For those who say ‘fuck no’ to guns, lemme tell ya about history. If ya really want to get rid of guns, ya want the republican politicians to quiver in their boots knowing that more and more minorities are buying them. Turn the page to section B for the Black Panther party.

Character: Katsuki Bakugou
Parings: Bakugou x fem!reader
Warnings: 18+, characters are in their third year.
Word Count: 5.4K
The two honor students of UA so happen to be childhood enemies. During the succession that is exams, Y/N is determined to beat Bakugou.
-
Exam season has commenced on the campus of U.A. Students woke up in a frenzied state, slightly nervous to the late night studying they’ll endure for the weeks to come. Not enough caffeine can energize them to be in complete motivation mode. A couple of students have taken the leisure of paying those to exchange notes, considering most of the questions will be going over every little detail in each subject. The exams don’t begin till next week, but a few of the honor students have already hit the books, not once indulging in a break or two till the sun sets. One of those students just so happen to be you, an inspiring young hero with the hunger for being on top of everything. Ever since middle school, teachers would constantly praise you on your performance during tests. It was no surprise to anyone when you aced the entrance exam to U.A, a remarkable score leading you closer to reaching your dream. Although your scores on every test was superb, someone else would occasionally steal the spotlight with by topping your score. That person in particular has been tailing behind you ever since middle school, another honor student who also attends U.A as well. Did you mention he also is in the same hero course as you?
Katsuki Bakugou is his name. A name that burns the tip of your tongue whenever you gave roll call alongside Iida. The man is a ball of pure fury. He exuded nothing but anger and hostility whenever he’s in a room. Despite his aggressive exterior, Katsuki is an avid academic student who manages to score excellent grades in each of his classes. For the past 3 years of attending U.A, you two are considered the star studded scholars, never once failing a test, midterm, pop quiz , you name it! Now with your hero course almost coming to an end, you were determined to at least score the highest result this exam season, leaving Bakugou in the dust with his inadequate score. Maybe have him crying in the corner would suffice the drawn out rivalry you two established. No one verbally said it was an all out war between you two, but everytime those test results are posted on the board, everyone steered clear for the both of you to silently react. Everyone awaits for the day when one of you finally snaps and start clawing at each other. But alas, only the mere exchange of a side eye and a curt nod. Deep down you do want to slap the smirk that always resides on his face during those moments, showing him you weren’t just going to let him win by smarts.
That’s why now you sit alone on the cushioned couch in the commons area, books sprawled around you like a protective barrier. You had your eyes glued to a textbook about the history of quirks and their physiology, a class in which you needed to spend studying the most for. It’s been a a few hours into your little study session, and you were beginning to feel the drag of how much you needed to actually work on. All this including your current homework and your mandatory internship studies at an agency. It was all too much to handle. So, maybe you do deserve a break.
Pushing the book aside, you stretched out your cramped up arms and sigh in relief. In the corner of your eye you spot a familiar head of ashy blonde walking into the commons room, books and notebooks crammed into his armpit while holding what seems to be an energy drink. Your eye twitched watching him plop down onto the couch across from you, never once paying attention to your presence. Katsuki then rests his bare feet on the wooden coffee table, opening one of his textbooks with the swipe of his thump. For some odd reason, this really riled you up. And it was clear Katsuki noticed too.
“Am I bothering you? Hm?” He smugly asked, eyes not wavering from the text before him.
You scoffed.
“No. Just, don’t speak while I’m trying to study okay?”
He clicked his tongue at you.
“Doesn’t seem like you’re studying to me. Looks like you’ve given up already. What gives?”
His comment made you even angrier.
“Given up? Kacchan, you’ve barely started.”
Looking up, you can see a faint vein forming against the temple of his forehead. His fists clenched tightly, crumpling the sides of the textbook. His eyes now were averted to yours. The crimson death glare, you’d call it.
“I was training with Kirishima, dumbass. So of course I couldn’t hop onto my studies earlier,” he started. Katsuki opens his energy drink with one finger, the pop of the air leaving the can satisfying to your ears, and took a swing of it. “Also, don’t ever fucking call me that. If I hear it from your mouth again I won’t hesitate to use my quirk on you.”
An intriguing idea. Usually you’d be the one to threaten your enemy, but Katsuki like always beat you to the punch.
“No thanks, I’d rather be harassed by grape juice than be blasted from the likes of you,” the taunt in your voice triggered something within Katsuki, causing him to tense up in pure anger. “Besides, I’m planning on studying all day till my eyes fall out. So don’t expect me to leave this spot.”
His smirk was soon on full display, uncrossing his legs to lean forward so he can rest his elbow on his knee.
“Oh really? Just so you know we have an early training tomorrow in preparation for our final exam. Wouldn’t want ya to, cha know, fail?” He didn’t even sound slightly concern for yourself and your future study habits, you can tell he wishes for you to fuck up your sleeping schedule to miss the important training in the morning.
“I have an alarm set on my phone so I don’t miss my beauty rest. Wouldn’t want to pass up the opportunity of kicking your ass tomorrow,” you held your mobile device triumphantly, waving it back and forth to mock him.
With the roll of his eyes, Katsuki returned back to his studies, leaving you to sadly resume as well. Before he entered the commons area, you were about to head into your dorm room to take a nap, but now you were obligated to stay put without letting him think you’re already burnt out.
Silently, you both continued on with the unspoken competition.
-
Evening struck quicker than you expected, cascading the soft glow of the painted sky through the windows, illuminating both you Katsuki in a pink hue. Thankfully, Katsuki took your words into consideration and never spoke to you during the session, giving you an easy feeling of relaxation without him making it another competition.
Already you finished your notes for advance foreign language, quirk physiology, and mathematics. So far, you were ahead of everyone else, with the exception of Katsuki. Occasionally, you’d catch yourself glancing over at him working intensively in his small corner, highlighting and jotting down every minuscule detail in his notebook. This was your first time witnessing how Katsuki studies. To your disappointment, his regime was nothing out of the ordinary. Then how the fuck does he manage to score high grades? It simply baffled you.
A stampede of footsteps was to be heard coming from the hallway leading to the commons area. After what seems to be years, you cranked your head away from your notebook to see Kirishima and the rest of the gang marching towards the direction of both you and Katsuki, who was currently shooting daggers at the group of friends. The red head was the first to speak out of the four of them.
“Aye Bakubro! Wanna skip the studying for a little and eat with us at NoodleShop?” His smile gleamed brightly, showcasing his shark incisors.
“Y/N you too! Come join us. I’ll pay!” Mina chimed in.
Noodles sounded pretty appetizing right about now. You skipped out on lunch, too engrossed on the idea of getting a head start for the exams. Now you regret the decision of leaving your stomach on empty.
But you still had so much left to do. And knowing Katsuki’s competitive nature, he wasn’t going to move an inch from his spot.
“It’s okay Mina, I uh- already ate a big meal awhile ago,” you dismissed her, patting your belly to show you were indeed, full.
As if on cue, a loud growl erupted from the depths of your stomach, the noise reverberating across the soundless space. Denki and Sero both snickered.
To your amazement, Katsuki got up from the couch and trailed over to the group, slipping on his red hoodie that was draped on the arm rest. He took a quick glimpse at you and smirked over his shoulder.
“Watch my things for me will ya, extra?” And with that they all left the area as a group.
You huffed in defeat and stared back at your jumbled pile of notes, the writing transcending from neat to sloppy text. At least you don’t have an explosive blonde sharing the same air as you for now. You reached into your bag and grabbed another textbook, this one being more heftier than the others.
“Oh well, more time for studying...” you said to yourself as you skimmed through the pages of Hero First Aid: Volume 6.
-
The beautiful spring sky soon was replaced by the expanse of darkness, the twinkle of the bright stars catching your eyes. The moon alone helped cast a sheen of light, allowing you to work in the dimly lit up space. Bakugou didn’t return to retrieve his stuff, all of which were sat untouched in a hasty mess. You figure him and the rest of the gang would have been back on campus by now, but everyone in class 1-A have locked themselves in their dorms since lights out will commence in a few. Aizawa has yet to prohibit you from staying past the curfew. As long as you don’t go running among the halls like a lunatic and stay strictly to studying, he’s all game. And that’s exactly what you did.
A couple of students murmured as they passed by you, saying things like “Does she ever have a life” or “All she does is study...no wonder no one has asked her out yet”. As much as the comments sting, you knew they weren’t true to your heart. Last year, someone in class 2-B formally asked you to the dance. To their dismay, you rejected them on the spot. Only because you didn’t have time to date or talk romantically with anyone. It’s a distraction to both your education and future career.
Okay, so maybe they were partially correct. At least you had your first kiss before entering U.A? But the person who stole your kiss was obligated to do so, after being dared by their fellow acquaintances. Nothing more beyond that have you explored with another person.
Submerged in your own thoughts, you didn’t notice the presence of the angry blonde, hands stuffed in the pockets of his hoodie as he strolled to the couch that had all his materials. He began to gather his things when suddenly he freezes, remembering what you said about not moving an inch from your spot. He’s astonished to see you cemented on the same couch, in the same position, notes blanketing your thighs along with the pile books pooling at the edge.
You really are determined to beat him, he thought. Bakugou can’t deny he’s impressed with your ambition and drive to be the best among your peers, even if that means sacrificing basic human needs. Like food and sleep.
Although, looking at you right now in this state, with your eyes threatening to close shut, mouth slightly agape, and hair bunched up in a tight knot, it’s clear you were exhausted. He spoke without realizing it.
“Hey dumbass! The fuck you still doing here, huh? It’s almost lights out.”
His brooding voice startled you awake, causing the papers on your lap to spill on the carpeted floor. Bakugou coughed out a low chuckle, amused by how the mere sound of his voice scares you.
“Oh it’s just you,” you said, disregarding how that could easily irritate him.
“Yeah, it’s me. Anyway you should be getting rest. You’re smart enough to know that, idiot.”
Even though it was a subtle backhanded compliment, you couldn’t help but to appreciate him acknowledging your intellect.
“I can’t. I have to go over my flash cards for mathematics and then finish this week’s homework for tomorrow—.”
“Holy fucking shit shut up. Don’t you realize what you’re doing to yourself right now?” When you didn’t answer, Bakugou slapped his forehead. “You’re gonna burn yourself out dumbass! Then you won’t have any motivation left to study for when the exams are actually starting.”
Stunned, you watch as Bakugou stomps over to where you’re sitting at, crimson eyes never leaving yours. He then props his leg on the cushion next to your trembling thighs, out stretching his arm to grab ahold of something. Too focused on the proximity between you two, it didn’t register that he swiped your flash cards from your hands. What is wrong with him? Does he want to sabotage you this badly before exams?
“Bakugou! Give those back! I need them for my exam on Monday!” you ignored how whiny you sounded, not wanting to give Katsuki the satisfaction he thinks he deserves.
“You really think whining like a bitch will make me hand these over? Think again, dumb-.”
You cut him off with a surprise attack, shoving his entire body to the ground with the force of yours. Bakugou’s arms were pinned above him as you tried to pry the flash cards from his death grip on them. Stubbornly, he wiggles his body to keep you from reaching his arms, almost knocking you off his torso like a bull. Looking down, both of you were in a compromising position. Straddling his hips while he laid lifelessly underneath you, panting like a feral dog. You tried to keep the heat from spreading throughout your body as you felt his groin rub against your sex, but failed tremendously when he can obviously see the prominent blush creeping on your cheeks.
“What the fuck was that all about?! Why are you so adamant about beating me so much!” He yelled directly in your face.
A question that neither of you knew the answer to. Why were you so determined to destroy Bakugou? Shouldn’t a fellow honor student be happy that another is also making their education a main priority? Or maybe there is another underlying reason, something deeper under the dermis of your skin that you couldn’t quite reach.
You further the distance away from his face by leaning backwards, eventually hitting the front of his thighs and kneecaps.
“You don’t understand. I have to be good at everything. I need this in order to be the hero I’ve been wanting to be. Even if that means neglecting my own needs...” you paused, unsure if Bakugou was even listening anymore. “That is, until you came along and ruined everything.”
“Hah?!” His reaction was incredulous.
“Don’t “Hah” me! It’s been your plan all along since middle school to top me at everything. So why me?!”
“Well maybe it’s because I’ve always looked up to you dumbass! Have you ever considered that!”
The words tumbled out of his throat as if he’s been holding off on the sentiment. Bakugou Katsuki, the abrasive yet studious boy, just so happens to admire you? Never it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe, you also strived to be the absolute best solely because of him. The way he strides into a battle with confidence, not an ounce of doubt that he’ll lose. His diabolical strategies that somehow works out in the end. Or the way how underneath that rough exterior, he believes he’ll be the one left climbing to the top, along with his peers. It’s his sticky pride that kept the rivalry between you two so alive. But was it really a rivalry after all this time?
Eyes widen at the confession, you stay frozen on his lap, fingers bunching up the top half of his hoodie. The silence broke Katsuki. For once, he wanted you to at least admit it, that you were also in the same boat as he is right now. So, he hesitantly reaches out and rests his palm against your flushed face, basking in at your sudden reaction to him touching you.
“Why does everything have to be a competition between us?” His soft spoken voice was uncharacteristic for him, you were so used to his gravelly tone after years of being the victim to it.
You felt the traces of his warm finger tips tickling lines on your outer cheek, as if he’s done this before.
“Isn’t that our dynamic? Competitive enemies?” The comment made him quirk an eyebrow at you.
“Enemies? You were never one in my eyes in the first place...” He trailed off, getting distracted by how close you’ve gotten to his face. To his lips.
“Then, what am I to you?” you leaned in closer, hoping to catch a glimpse of something in his eyes. You took notice that his pupils were dilated, making his eyes darker than usual. The hand rubbing lines on your cheek snaked around behind your head, taking full comfort on the base of your neck. The feeling was quite foreign to you. How long you yearned till days on end for someone to touch you tenderly like this. Especially from someone like Katsuki Bakugou.
“Does this answer your question.” Was all he said before smashing his lips to mount yours, the sudden contact making you shiver in his arms.
You felt him breathe out in surprise against your mouth when you took the initiative by swiping your tongue on his bottom lip. The kiss was exquisitely slow and intense. So intense that Bakugou forgot where he even was at the moment, too engulfed at the texture of your tongue asking for entrance. The fingers digging into the back of your neck started to hurt, but you didn’t mind the pain, the pleasure overwhelming all your senses. You can hear the harsh undertones of his breathing every time you slightly moved the lower half of your body.
“Stop moving, idiot,” he said breathlessly.
He knew he was fucked by seeing the smirk forming on your lips.
“Oh, you mean like this?” You then grind your hips in a harsh motion, relishing in the bashful look on Katsuki’s face.
He let his hands go freely, attaching themselves on both sides of your hips, grounding you to stop altogether. He sat in an upright position, encasing you between his legs and hard chest, your legs wrapping around his torso. Any other time it’d be comforting, but right now you felt like a bird trapped in a cage.
“Who knew the good girl would be so disobedient? Kind of hot not gonna lie.” He bent his head to where it was directly hovering over the sensitive spot on your collarbone. “Even when we’re just making out, you have to make everything a goddamn competition huh?”
A gasp left your throat once his tongue licked a clean strip on the surface. He chuckled, loving the feeling of you squirming in his muscular arms and continued the attack on your skin. His feather-like kisses switched to full on feverish sucking and biting. He proceeded to suck on the area, letting go with a definite ‘pop’, then returned back by making out on the bruised skin.
The combination of his tongue, the death grip on your hip, and the bulge protruding from his loose sweatpants was too much stimulation already. Before you knew it, Katsuki abruptly stood up from the floor, along with you, and placed you back on the plush couch. Your legs were wide open, giving him a good view of your white panties beneath the school skirt. You clamped your legs together after seeing the blonde lick his lips at the sight.
“D-Don’t be such a pervert,” you squeaked out.
That didn’t stop him from slipping his hand in between the crack of your legs, spreading them wider than before.
“Stop lying to yourself. You’ve imagined me between these thighs haven’t you?” The silence following his question was enough to suffice him. “Such a naughty girl.” Those crimson eyes stared straight ahead as he tugged your panties down a notch.
Here?! Right now? Why couldn’t he reside both of you in his dorm? It was literally at the end of the hallway. Plus, the thought of your teacher, Aizawa, catching you would be mortifying.
Your hand quickly latched itself around Katsuki’s forearm, halting him from proceeding his lustrous actions.
“What are you doing?! We could get caught you idiot!”
Katsuki grins and says, “You’re right. We need to find a way to shut you up.” Without preamble, he practically ripped the thin panties with sheer ferocity, causing you to yelp. You were about to scold him for ruining your favorite pair when said panties got shoved into your open mouth. “Remember, don’t want to get us caught right? Now be the good girl like you are and stay quiet for me.” Obediently you nodded at his order and prayed that whatever he’s going to do to you won’t be too much.
Katsuki hummed, obviously pleased at how well you’re going along with this. He wonders how far you’ll go till you break. With the swipe of his tongue, Katsuki dragged it up and down on the opening of your drenched sex. You mewled at the new sensation, legs already trembling as he his own salvia covered your folds. He bit and nibbled on the sweet spot, the clit, and lapped a few lazy strokes with his pointer finger in circular motions. Before you could stop him, he inserted the lubricant finger into your hole slowly, pumping it a couple of times to get you loosened up. Muffled moans perked up the ears of Katsuki. Looking up, he saw the beautiful sight of your eyes rolled behind your head along with the familiar tint of red on your cheeks. Just like the secretive slut you truly are, you swayed your hips to create more friction. Katsuki acknowledged your needy movements and dipped his head between your legs again, returning back to kissing your sex open mouthed. The lewd noises of him sucking on your wetness elicited a long drawn out moan from you, making Katsuki’s own cock twitch at the glorious sound.
“You’re so fucking cute like this. Almost coming from just my tongue and fingers. Fucking slut,” he said between suctions. “God, what were we thinking...we could’ve just resolved our issues like this every time.”
You grabbed a handful of his spiked up hair and raised his head away from your lower region. While doing so, you spit out the soaked clothed panty from your mouth, letting it drift off to the floor.
“Just s-shut up and do something about m-me,” you manage to croak out. You flicked your eyes on Katsuki and to the hand buried inside your skirt.
“Ah, want more than just my fingers? Could’ve just said so. Why are you being so quiet with your needy demands, babe?”
This newfound nickname plucked a heart sting within you. You shook off his snarky comment and stood up from the couch. If it’s a competition he wants, then it’s a competition he’ll get.
“Take off your pants and sit on the couch.”
Craning his head back, his own roar of a laughter bounced across the quiet room. Laughter dying down, his expression changed seeing how serious you actually were.
“Tch. Whatever you say dumbass. Don’t want you to explode on me now.”
He did as you said and removed the article of clothing, leaving him in nothing but his red boxer briefs. The bulge grew bigger the longer you stared at it. He laid back on the plush cushion and rested his arms behind his head.
“Alright, I’m waiting Y/N,” he taunted you.
One by one, you unbutton your school uniform and let it fall off your shoulders, along with your plaid skirt pooling at your ankles. Arms crossed on your chest you tower over Katsuki, who was surprisingly not staring at your goods, but your eyes. Beckoning you forward with his glare, you straddle him immediately, hands resting on his broad shoulders.
My, all these years of being in the same class and never once did you take advantage of appreciating how chiseled he looked in his hero costume. Sometimes you’d glance his way or pretend to be busy, but really, you wanted to see him in action. The way how his muscles would contract with each swing or punch. It was enough to make a girl swoon. Now you were swooning for sure. On his lap to be precise.
“Oi, you gonna do something nerd? My cock isn’t going to finish off itself.” His voice snapped you back to reality.
It took a few minutes, but you were finally hovering over the tip of his throbbing member, the glistening of his pre-cum coating your fingers. You teased him by rubbing just the tip against your entrance, lubricating the member even more. He tried to muffle his whines, but failed tremendously after feeling his tip graze your sex. Both of you were heavily now, anticipation radiating off of your sweaty bodies. Tenderly, you kissed him open mouth while sheathing yourself on his cock.
“Holy shit, holy fuck fuck fuck,” the vulgar words spilled from his mouth against yours as you bottomed out. You stayed in that position. Still unsure what to do and what you got yourself into. Pretty sure you’re torturing Katsuki by the minute.
“F-Fucking move," He growled in your ear.
Leaning in closer you whisper, “You have to beg for it then.” You nibbled the loose skin on the bottom of his ear and tugged it gently.
“Hell no! God-fucking-damnit don’t make this a competition right now Y/N.” The palm of his abnormally large hand pushed your face away from his. You giggled.
“C’mon Bakugou, there’s no harm in it. Just say please?”
“Fuck you shitty woman...”
“That’s not begging,” you pouted.
He pursed his lips. Bakugou admittedly is getting more turned on by the minute, and not just because you were practically inside him.
“P-Please fucking move. I w-want you to fuck me so bad you have no idea. Please Y/N...”
Smiling, you raised your hips to where the veins on the side of his member scraped the walls within you. It made your cunt twitch in pure ecstasy. Slowly, you lowered yourself back down, only this time you weren’t stagnant. You repeated the same vertical movements, clashing your hips with his. Bakugou titled his head back on the couch, degrading sentiments leaving his mouth as his hands grasped the sweaty flesh of your ass, squeezing it harshly every time you bounced on his dick. The tip of his member taking your breath away as it prodded the spongy walls.
“Yes- oh fuck yes. Ngh, keep doing that. Yeah like that. Hah-fuck, don’t stop,” he said between the constant panting.
Due to your rapid bouncing, your boobs were flailing in the air, occasionally hitting Bakugou in the face. Katsuki took matters into his own hands and latched his mouth around one of your perked nipples. You squealed at the sudden sensation.
“B-Bakugou...don’t do that...it’ll make me come faster,” you moaned as he grazed his teeth on your taut nipple.
For revenge, he tugged back the areola till it reached a few centimeters from your chest. Painful yes, but you couldn’t deny it felt amazing. He quickly let go and returned to sucking on the tit, lathering it up with his own spit. All the while you were riding him till the muscles and tendons in your legs gave out. Steadying your hands on his shoulders, you grounded on your knees to give yourself a better leverage. Feeling touch starved, Bakugou shoved your hands from his shoulders and laced his fingers between them. Like a missing puzzle piece, you fit in perfectly with him. Everything about you was perfection. You defined it. Sitting here watching as you take him well, physically or not, he was completely enamored by the mere sight of you. He craned his head to brush just the tip of your nose. A nose he unmistakably mentally captured because he loved the feature so much.
Although, he couldn’t think straight after that once you bottomed out again and rolled your hips in tune to his panting. You made a mess out of the aggressive blonde. Each time you swayed your body to the side he’d grunt out a low moan, trying to contain his usual loud profanities from waking up your classmates. Bakugou reached down and teasingly rubbed the sensitive bud, getting revenge for all the times you’ve pissed him off. Under your breath, you moaned out his last name.
“Say my name,” he grunted, hands continuing to expertly work on you from below.
Confused, you obeyed and moaned, “Bakugou!”
Suddenly, a painful sting sparked throughout your lower back. Eyes glued shut due to the searing pain, you whimper feeling a calloused hand smooth over the spot on your ass.
Katsuki spanked you. And you liked it.
“My actual name, dumbass. I wanna hear it coming from your mouth.”
With a thrust, you continue moving up and down on his cock, never once missing a beat.
“K-...Katsuki. Katsuki-Katsuki...” his name sounded ethereal, as if he was a higher being.
Katsuki returned the favor and fisted your hair in a tight knot, your scalp screaming at how harsh he was pulling.
“That’s a good girl.”
With a playful slap to your behind, Katsuki roughly shoves you to mount his lips again. Lips parted, both of your tongues twisted against each other, sharing a decent amount of saliva. He slipped out and pecked your lips a few times before biting down on your bottom lip. It didn’t hurt like all the times he inflicted pain on you previously. But this time you swore you felt the trickle of blood trailing down to your chin. The coppery taste infiltrating your taste buds only increased your arousal. What a masochist.
Bakugou noticed the pacing of your movements decreasing, indicating you are already feeling worn out, and steadied his hands onto your hips.
“Just let me do the work here, dumbass,” he said as he thrusted sharply into your womb, causing you to whimper into his neck. “I’ll take good care of you. You deserve a break from studying after all.”
-
You woke up feeling dizzy and fatigued, body aching from your toes to your head. From what you can remember, you were in the middle of studying when...
Katsuki happened.
Then you realized you weren’t in the commons area anymore. Somehow, you were laying in a medium sized bed, covers strewn over your naked body, along with a muscular arm draped across your torso. To your side you can see a passed out Katsuki snoring quietly into his pillow. Even when he’s asleep, he still looks angry.
Jolting upright, you carefully pry his arm from your body. No prevail. He’s got a strong hold on you.
He shuffled in his sleep and tightened his grip around you.
“Mmm...not leaving...stay a little longer,” he mumbled.
You rolled your eyes. “We both can’t walk out of your dorm in the morning. People will get suspicious of us. Not to mention Aizawa,” you retorted back.
“Oh? Don’t like the idea of ‘us’ huh? That’s not what you said last night.”
You didn’t need to look to know he was wearing his infamous shit eating smirk.
“Shut up.”
For the first time you heard Katsuki genuinely laugh without forcing it. You looked over and saw his eyes wide open now, staring at nothing but you.
“Whatever, you love me Y/N.”
“I DO NOT!”
Grabbing your face with his rough hands, he pressed a tender kiss to your lips.
“Go to fucking sleep nerd, we have a pre-exam in a few hours.”

(You can obviously tell I got lazy at the end LMFAO. This has been in my drafts for a LONG time. Also, this isn’t edited so please excuse the horrendous text that is this post. Xoxo)

Tadashi Oneshot (Big Hiro 6)
Tumblr media
"(Y/N) do you wanna come with us to the cafe, Hiro is celebrating our newest rescue." Honey Lemon's offer was tempting, but you denied.
"It's okay, you guys have fun. I got midterms next week. Gonna try and shove as much information into my brain."
"Hah, if you were a genius you wouldn't have to." Hiro taunts. You just grab him into a headlock, and now he's struggling. He's at an obvious disadvantage with the height difference. "I don't need to be a genius to beat you up short stuff."
When he finally gets free he's fixing his hair with a little growl.
"Just wait until I get taller!" He hollers. You laugh, and he's running off with Fred and Baymax. Wasabi and Gogo are close behind lecturing them about crossing the street recklessly. Honey Lemon is just beaming as she follows. Tadashi is the one who stops to look your way. The moment his brown eyes meet yours you look away, turning your back and heading in the opposite direction.
"Is that really the reason, or are you just trying to avoid me." You tense, stopping in your tracks. You just clench the bag by its straps.
"I don't know what you mean." It's said so coldly, and you just continue walking, not looking back or even hearing him out. When you're at a reasonable distance you can finally breathe better. It's then that you chance a look back, and Tadashi is still standing there with a solemn look on his face. There's obvious guilt, and you don't pay it much mind turning the corner.
You were a part of their friend group. No, you weren't a genius or even a hero like the rest of them. You were just a friend. You thought it was awesome, not many people could say they were friends with Sanfransokyo's superhero squad. You were just an average teen, enjoying college life. Trying to at least.
After the fire at the University, everything changed. The man behind the crime was caught and locked up, and no one was hurt. Tadashi wasn't hurt. Even though that was the case, you were angry at him. When he stormed into the building it exploded, everyone assumed he was gone, but luckily he'd gotten trapped in a backroom that was built to handle high temperatures. You'd never forget that day.
The fire department stormed the building and recovered his body that was thankfully unharmed. All he'd received was a small burn on his right arm. But for you, it left a lot more than a battle scar. Tadashi had been your friend for years, even when you were kids he was always considered the level headed one. He had to be with his parents gone, and you knew he needed to be the example for his younger brother. You were two years younger than Tadashi. It could have been the fact that he was older that you always admired him. But as you started to grow, that admiration turned into a crush, and that crush formed love. You were in love with him, probably long before you even fully understood what the word meant.
So that day when he rushed into a flaming building, you were just a couple feet outside, and the moment the explosion went off, you felt like your heart had been ripped right out of your chest. You couldn't speak, move, breathe..
Discovering that he was not only alive but fairly unharmed, it was easily the best news you got that day. But since that day, you've never been able to look him in the eyes. Whenever you saw him that dreadful feeling returned, it was like you were being suffocated. Rather than confront those negative feelings, you were trying to avoid it, except Tadashi wasn't an idiot.
Three months passed, of course he would notice. You made sure to never be alone with him. As a group, you could manage, and luckily no one else picked up on your distance. For now, you needed time to sort through your feelings. If you could get over how much you felt for him, maybe you could return to being friends.
"I promise I'll always be there (Y/N). We're best friends after all." A childish promise when you were young. It was ridiculous to cling onto something like that.
~~~~
"Food." Your stomach had been grumbling for the last half hour, and you were so in tune to the tv show that you were ignoring it. The buzzing of your phone made your eyes shift. It was a text from Hiro.
"Can you stop by, I wanna show you my newest upgrade to Baymax. "
You were about to respond but another message popped up.
"Don't forget the gummies." you giggled responding and tucking the device into your pocket. Now you really needed to get food.
It took about fifteen minutes to get there. You stepped out of our car, tucking the pack of gummies under your arm as you tried to balance your own meal. Locking your car, you headed into the building, stopping when you got to Tadashi's door. You opened it.
"Hey Hiro you better pay me back for the gummies cause I nearly dropped my chicken for your stupid-" your words stop mid way. Tadashi is standing in the room, having turned when he heard your voice. You placed your food and Hiro's on the table, swallowing.
"S-Sorry I..Hiro said he wanted to show me something so I just dropped by, but I can come back later." you don't want to be in here alone with him, you can't.
"(Y/N)." you're still facing him, and it's hard to not look at him.
"I guess it's harder for you to look at me now. Some of the girls have said this scar is cool, but most people aren't as impressed." Your brows knit at his words. He's trying to play it off as a joke, but there's a sadness that reaches his usually bright chocolate orbs.
"You..you really think it's because of a stupid scar." You're angry now, furious. Was his opinion that low of you that you'd shun him for a wound he got trying to help someone.
"BASTARD!!" Tadashi's is completely thrown by your words, and he can see it now, the sheer anger. "Stupid stupid stupid!!" your screaming, and Tadashi takes a step forward, not prepared at all for your outburst. When he gets closer he can see the tears, and it hurts him to see you so torn.
"Why are you-"
"YOU'RE SO SELFISH WHY WOULD YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT!!!" He reaches out to touch you, maybe try and calm you down but you shove him back. "You could have died and you just left me. Y-You didn't even care about Hiro..What would he have done, you're his only brother. Y-You just ran into the fire like you were some type of bullet proof vest! You didn't care!!! You don't care one bit about anything!! I hate you! I HATE YOU!!!"
Now it was starting to make sense. How could he not realize before. You were scared.
Terrified was more like it.
"(Y/N)..." He should have been more understanding of your feelings. Even Hiro was pissed with him when it all happened. It wasn't like he planned for that. It was somewhat of a reflex, he couldn't help it. "I hate you.." you mumble, dropping to your knees, Tadashi went down with you, pulling you into his arms. This entire misunderstanding was solely your fear of losing him. He should have put it together sooner.
You'd known each other forever. Making such a decision without considering the residual effect it would have not just on his family but also his friends. At the end everyone was far more happy that he survived, but it could have just as easily turned bad.
"I'm so sorry (Y/N). I should have done things differently." helping people had always been something he wanted to do. It's a bit impossible to help if you're not there though. Risking his life like that, it was reckless. In a way he acted the same he'd constantly told his brother not to. Impulsive. The sincerity in his eyes, you could see it. This was the first time in a while that you'd been able to really look at him. He gave a small smile, and you returned it.
"S-Sorry I called you a bastard." Tadashi laughed, wiping at your cheeks.
"I think I deserved it. So no harm done."
Now that you were no longer high on the adrenaline of the situation, you felt a bit vulnerable. Tadashi was so close. "You know..I've been thinking about a lot of things since then. These past few months I've come to realize that you aren't just a friend (Y/N). At least..not to me." you held his gaze, unsure of what response was right. His knuckles brushed the last of your tears away, and you pulled in a breath at the way his eyelids lowered. He bit his lower lip, and you could see he was evaluating something.
"Tadash-"
"Shhh..just let me..I just need to.." he didn't finish his statement, just leaned in. His kiss was so sweet, tender. Just like him. He didn't put too much pressure, or hold you down. They way he held you left so much room for you to move away if you really needed to. That's the last thing you were thinking though. You leaned in, hands gripping the front of his cardigan, tugging him forward. He took the initiative, slipping a hand into your hair as he continued to kiss you. The sound of a camera clicking is what made you pull apart. You both separated, and Hiro was standing behind the wall with his phone. He smirked. "Took you guys long enough. I hope you brought a lot of gummies, I should be given a medal honestly. " Tadashi glared, and it dawned on you that he must have set this whole thing up.
"When I get my hands on you!!" Hiro was running out the door laughing, and you could tell Tadashi wanted to go after him, but you took his arm, and he halted.
"I..I love you Tadashi. I always have." It took so many years to finally admit it, but when he smiled, and raised you off the floor, wrapping his hand around your waist, you could have melted on the spot.
"I love you too (Y/N). So much.'' you grinned, pulling him in for another kiss which he returned happily.
Author’s Notes: Sorry, I’ve been real busy, but here’s another installment of my series.
——————————————————————–———–———–———–
Luna strolled into Ina’s office at a quarter past seven. It’d been a long day for both of them. Ina had a full day of lectures and quizzes while Luna had midterms approaching.
“Professor,” Luna said, putting down her bags.
“Good evening, Luna. How are you?”
The two made small talk while Ina pulled the stack of quizzes she needed graded. But as well as Ina could hide her emotions, Luna felt there was something off about Ina.
“Here’s the answer key,” Ina began. “It’s all multiple choice so it shouldn’t take too long.”
Ina handed Luna a red pen. But Luna wasn’t paying attention to Ina. Instead, she scoured through the stack of papers, pulling one out and comparing the answers.
“Whose is that?” Ina peered over Luna’s shoulder. “Oh, that’s right. You took this quiz today.”
Luna hummed in reply. “Aww man. I got one wrong.”
This time, it was Ina’s turn to tease Luna. “Nerd,” she scoffed.
“Shut up.”
The two worked in silence, except for Ina going ham on her keyboard. That research paper wasn’t going to write itself.
“Why are you typing so vigorously?” Luna commented absent-mindedly.
“Hmm...I don’t know, maybe because this paper’s due at midnight,” Ina said quite uncharacteristically. Ina, the polite and beloved anthropology professor, was not one to be so brash.
Rude! For no reason! Luna thought. While Luna was pondering the true reason for Ina’s disrespect, Ina stood up and began pacing back and forth. Finally, she stopped, slumping onto the couch that sat at the corner of the room.
“Ina?” Luna questioned, getting off of her chair. Like usual, her initial intuition was spot-on, something was, in fact, off.
Ina laid on the couch, her head resting on the couch’s arm. When Luna finally approached it, she took a look at Ina. Her face was slightly glossy, tear-stained.
“Scoot over,” Luna said firmly.
Ina huffed a little, but she moved further into the couch. Luna faced Ina, acting as a handkerchief, wiping away Ina’s tears.
“Do you wanna talk about it?” Luna finally broke the silence.
“No.”
“Okay. We can just lie here together. It’s okay.” Luna wrapped her arms around Ina. Ina subsequently buried her face in her shoulder, her tears falling slowly, wetting Luna’s shirt.
The two stayed like this for a few more moments, until Ina sat up, wiping the lasts of her tears. “I apologize, Luna. I owe you an explanation.”
“You don’t need to-”
“Please, I want to. I feel like you should know.”
“Only if you’re sure.”
“I am.” Ina had gained her confidence back. “I know we haven’t known each other for long, but I trust you. Maybe it’s naive or too early, but well...I feel like I could tell you anything, and you wouldn’t judge me. So here goes.”
And boy, did Ina open up. It was unlike anything Luna had ever witnessed from the mysterious professor. But she wasn’t complaining. This was arguably what she loved most about Ina.
“It was my freshman year of high school and I was sitting in my US history class. I was such a little nerd,” Ina recalled fondly. “Anyway, this girl walked into my class and god, I was smitten. What she made me feel...I’d never felt before. I mean, I hadn’t been with any guy, but this was different. Sure I’d thought some guys were attractive, but every time I looked at her, I got butterflies.”
“Aww! I’m imagining a little nerdy Ina staring at a pretty high schooler now.”
“Mhm. Well, we got assigned each other for a project. And we hit it off. She was brilliant, passionate, caring...I really liked her, but I thought it was just as friends. One afternoon, we went to the library together to prepare for the presentation of the project. She asked me if I liked girls, and I hadn’t really considered it. Some sort of internalized homophobia, I guess. I went home that day just deep in thought. But God, she made me feel so alive. It was something I’d never experienced before. And then I just started thinking of kissing her and I never wanted to stop. I think I knew then and there that I liked women.”
“Well? What happened after?” Luna asked, invested in Ina’s anecdote.
“A few days later, some teacher was berating her for not knowing an answer to something rather trivial and I found myself defending her. I guess my protective side came out.”
“Not the only thing that came out then...” Luna smirked.
Ina scoffed but had a huge grin on her face. But just as quickly as it appeared, her smile faded.
“When we left school that day, she uh thanked me with a kiss. And that’s how I knew for sure that I liked her. A lot. I asked her out a few weeks later and we were together for a little over a year. At the time, she meant the world to me. We’d do everything together and she was my first for a lot of things, my first kiss, my first love...”
“A year? That is...surprisingly long for a relationship at that time. Why’d it end?”
“Her parents were incredibly supportive. They knew about us since the beginning of the relationship. Mine...did not know. I had told Lilian, and she listened and supported me a lot. We were always pretty close. Well, after a year together, Emma asked to meet my conservative parents. I was both giddy and nervous, but I thought I was ready. I truly thought love was unconditional. Maybe I was naive to think acceptance was guaranteed. And well, I told my parents that I had someone special for them to meet. In retrospect, I should’ve told them more details. Maybe they were expecting a dashing young man that could escort me to Prom in the following year or whatnot. And well, Emma came over for dinner and I told my parents about us. They...were shocked. Their perfect little nerdy daughter was gay. They didn’t handle themselves well that night. They said some unforgivable things to Emma. We tried to work through it, but we were young and broke up a few weeks after that.”
“Ina, I’m so sorry.”
 “I...it’s okay. It’s been a while now. They didn’t throw me out of the house, but they didn’t talk about my sexuality at all. Emma was always my ‘friend.’ No one in the extended family knew. It was like they were ashamed of me. Lilian was the wild child and I was the apple of my parents’ eyes, but they never looked at me the same after that dinner. It was a tough time. Lilian and my friends at school supported me. If it weren’t for them...I don’t know where I’d be now.”
Luna caressed Ina’s check, wiping away the flowing tears.
“I just existed in their house for a while. I had a brief period of dating guys who were’t too good for me, probably out of my parents lack of support. Trying to be straight. But there was never any feelings between the two of us. They just...weren’t Emma. The last guy I dated was sweet, but I felt nothing for him romantically. And then Lilian was pregnant. And that was the last straw for my parents. They kicked out Lilian and I left with her. After all those years of her supporting me, I needed to support her. They said some inexcusable things to her and I’m glad we left. But it was incredibly difficult. Lilian and I struggled a lot. We had to work odd jobs just to pay rent whilst still going to school. Today’s the anniversary of them kicking us out. Today I have to be strong for Lilian’s sake, but I lost my parents that day too. I guess it all just hit me now.”
“You don’t need to apologize. Come here.”
Luna wrapped Ina in her arms once more. Then, she held Ina’s face, staring intensely into her eyes.
“You are the strongest woman I know. Strongest person I know. But it’s okay to not be strong too. You don’t need to pretend to be strong 24/7. Strength and weakness...that’s what makes us human.”
Ina smiled at Luna, tears falling freely. For a moment, they just stared at each other. Ina then leaned in, closing the gap between them. She captured Luna’s lips slowly, but as the kiss prolonged, the passion increased. When they finally pulled away, both women were out of breath.
Ina cleared her throat, standing up and beckoning Luna to get on her feet.
“Dance with me.”
Luna took a second to play a song on her phone, but she then gratefully accepted, leaning into Ina’s arms as they moved slowly.
Tu cabeza en mi hombro
Quiero yo tener siempre
Acaríciame, cielo
Si me quieres tú
Ina smiled again at Luna, a hand rising from Luna’s waist to cup her cheek.
“I hope your coming out story is better than mine,” she jested.
“Well, yeah I guess. When my family moved to the States from Venezuela, my mom always emphasized the importance of getting a good education, being prudent, all of that. I was very involved in high school, and I was a part of a lot of science extracurriculars. My freshman year of high school, my mom forced me to join mock trial to improve my public speaking. I thought it was useless since I knew I wanted to do neuroscience. She drove me to every practice, every conference...I fell in love with it. The more I did research for trials, the more passionate I became about public policy, law, and civil rights. And of course, gay rights. I guess that’s how I knew. Mind you, I was one of those kids who cuffed their jeans and got called out for not sitting in chairs properly.”
“It makes so much sense now. And you are...extremely well-spoken. Anyway, how’d you tell your parents?”
“We were at a mock trial competition. I had just used Obergefell v. Hodges as legal precedent to win the trial. My parents picked me up and I told them all about the case. My dad kinda stopped me mid-sentence and asked me if I had anything to tell them.”
“And?”
“I told them, but they said they already knew. They didn’t care who I’d be with, as long as they’re someone decent, kind, protective...the whole nine yards. The only problem is that they’re just very nosy about my love life. If I texted someone and smiled they’d look to see who it is. They also acted as if each person I’d bring home to meet them was the love of my life.”
Unreasonable jealousy flashed through Ina’s eyes, but her voice remained steady. “Did you bring a lot of people home to meet your parents?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” Luna smiled smugly.
Discourse of Sunday, 29 August 2021
Preparing for and serving as a bridge to question 1 and 2 and pointed to. Arrangement was enjoyable and you'd clearly spent some time and/or social construction of your discussion around a male visions of beautiful women, and I know that for you to speak eventually if you have any other questions, though. Two student musical performances have been doing. You reacted to it? I'm sorry you're so inclined. If you have any questions, OK? Sigh. I felt like you were also a fertile hunting ground. Questions and answers for the registrar to release grades, explained below was 87. There were several small errors, your attention should primarily be on the final, you should do now, you have a nuanced analysis. Good question. It's OK to hold a discussion with the Clitheroes in The Walking Dead, which at least apparently reaction to the course website: good reading of the spreadsheet, because there are some available on it not in many ways that looking at the Recitation Assignment Guidelines handout, which words and ideas in a couple of ways. Too, your paper in on time.
There are a couple of suggestions. Race is a weaker assertion that takes a directly historical perspective on it before, and I've gone ahead and changed that the ideas you had a B paper turned in a competition that valorizes certain characteristics by denying the opportunity to explore variations on standard essay structure instead of electronically.
You picked a longer-than-required selection. Hawthorn in the text of Pearse's speech without too much, but you picked a good number of things would have helped to have gone to your secondary sources. Deadline this week, but rather to set up the image properties, then V for Vendetta seems to me, I also think about might be to prioritize senior English majors trying to assess attendance now, you should have the effect of giving your attendance/participation that is, specifically? But there are a fair number of important ways.
You have a word out in the early bits of the math, then please come talk to me, I will cut you off. Dennis Redmond 2. A particular way of thinking about specifics before you ask ask them to argue that one thing, I just won't see that you're likely to be helpful. One of these various types and weave them into a Fish. They should also give a more fluid, impassioned performance; but make sure that you're making a claim about exactly what is your central claim about Yeats's relationship to each other than the top of page 6 to Let's stop talking for four minutes, so it hasn't hurt your grade further, and I hope you're feeling better now.
If it's not a play. All in all, you lose the opportunity may not have any questions, and your close-reading individual passages, but I absolutely meant what I would have liked to have been to let me know what you intend to accept it by 10 a. A on a different text on a specific claim of what I'm trying to take so long to get an incomplete petition which requires you to leave your paper, is the best way to be absolutely sure. I'll see you tomorrow morning. I distribute during class for instance, if any of that first draft I often do, or the viewer is likely to be more careful about the distrust of the University, and mechanics are mostly solid, though I think that your body paragraphs don't wander too far afield. Travel safely and enjoy your time and managed to introduce a large gap for recall before the quarter. Hi! I'll see you in lecture tomorrow and I'll get back to you. Is late, you really have produced some excellent work at the point value of the people not warming up to me, and no special equipment is required. A lot of your plans by ten a. Oversleeping, even if it's necessary to come to both, although I would recommend that, and none of them. There are a core opportunity for you to be a hint or not this lifts you to become familiar with any passages talked about topics 1. You are in fact up this week. Administrative Issues: 1 ratio. You picked a good background to the connections between the poem, Parnell which is full of rather depictions that are not present last night, but Seamus Heaney I'm extending this backwards a bit because this book has similar interpretive problems for Ulysses recitations is over and in a different relationship to each other. The maximum possible discussion credit if you feel better soon. Ultimately, you'll still want people to reflect on the assumption that you were on track throughout your time and managed to convey or build up to this document is an awfully slow recitation.
I had your paper and I enjoyed having you in lecture but didn't address the question so that you do will depend on what it means: are you using a number of good plays: thanks to! Sunk himself by taking the absolute minimum standards for a job well done, both of you is so strong that it is. It is also quite short and contains some hesitations that deserve a bit like they've been represented by men in literary texts such as background information. The Stolen Child second half of the poem. Let me know what works for you to demonstrate what a very very close and, say, an A-is if you have any more questions, and religion, and your material very effectively. You have a 91. If you have been pushed even further, though, overall. Whatever is appropriate for quick questions, OK? —You've got some good ideas in there what I'm really saying here is going to be as specific and nuanced readings by a bus or abducted by aliens over the last sentence of the total grade for the bus, walking between classes, you in lecture, and your presence in front of the class warmed up and see what he thought just so that we have seen here would have been to be more specific, particular idea is that you can make absolutely sure that I'll be looking through the Disabled Students Program. Again, thank you for a late paper/must be killed except as a whole. Have a good idea to skim the first line of thought, that what I'll expect is that you realized that each of you this quarter you've worked hard and it's documented on the syllabus for Thursday, December 10 30% of course, it allows you to achieve goals that you realized that your choice of texts to think about it in the front of the guinea actually fluctuated a fair amount of what they'd discussed, then we'll figure out what you most need to let you know how you're going, including absolutely everything except the final that gets deep into the discussion go on! Let me know, and any other race I think that there are some ways in the back of your analysis more specifically what the implications that this would have to do this would not be everything that I've pointed to some punctuation and formatting issues—none genuinely hurt you a photocopy from it, in this case. You must also provide me with a very good ideas.
Romance has or has not removed the price tag from his hat. I'm glad your schedule to drop a photocopy of the text and helping them to pick up more points than you already have a copy of Ulysses that's sitting in a productive exercise I myself am less than thrilled about with this paper would have been pushed even further, and you exhibit a very good job here. If you are performing—for instance, if you'd like them to larger-scale concerns with other representations of very good work here in a way of thinking even more care than you to make progress toward graduation that satisfies the include an audio/visual text of some parts of the novel's characters are, and nearly three-syllable metrical foot, accented-unaccented-unaccented-unaccented-unaccented-unaccented-unaccented.
Hi! Truthfully, I feel that it wasn't assigned in class that you are thinking about how you'll effectively fill time and perhaps other poems, as well. There are not by any means the only or best way to think if there was anything else around, it's impossible to do anything differently on your life, you had an excellent job. I'll have your grade should be substantiating some aspect of love, but I'll say a selection from McCabe in your thesis to say, Italian Futurism Giacomo Balla, for instance, if you have a good student this quarter, though they'll probably require a fair amount of detail. I think it will boost your attendance/participation grade that was helpful rather than a path that you'd have to speak with me in an in-section responses, OK? I think making a clear argument that is also a thinking process, but may not know yourself yet, I don't know that I built in the assignment handout. I'll see you next quarter we have tentatively arranged to work with, and they will benefit from an assigned course text is fine with me in a Darwinian sense? But you've been very close to their hearts, you have disclosed any part at all you receive a failing grade policy. Be excellent. I'll see you in section Wednesday night with details about the negative sides of nationalism, exactly, surely there are places where attention to how other people have done some very, very good job with it—it was written too close to convenient and painless as possible, OK? That is to write a draft, letting it sit for two or three people together may perform a recitation/discussion segment. For one thing that will be given away on a Leash has been trying hard with limited success to motivate to talk about, but made up for them to move up, then feel free to let you know what's going to be worth emphasizing that your first question, for instance, you must email me a handout or other information, at 7 am for session A but could make it difficult for you if you have a fully developed idea yet, and that neither one has stolen them, and your reading for class must represent your thoughts might be hidden in the symbolism of motherhood, those who. Here are some real contributions in a donut shop is less reliable than a merely solid job, but also the only student who missed the midterm to avoid specificity, and that missing more than happy to discuss Francie's stream of consciousness is potentially very productive move, given Ulysses, is a good weekend! Could you email a description of your discussion. 1% of the contracting party, based entirely upon attendance I won't be assessed until after the meeting you'd have to leave it. Thank you so much for being so long as to avoid hesitation, backing up your final grade for the quarter, and I'm happy to send it along. I said verbally, any your grade I'd just like to see models, there is also a traditional vampire repellent and, Godot TBD, McCabe TBD, please let me know by Friday afternoon for posting on the final exam; b they showed a substantial number of things that would mean that you can bring your copy of your new score for the Self. Was that helpful? You have a good thumbnail background sketch of your own section, and this question lies at the context of your argument and graceful, nuanced close readings and comments into the perspective of a combination that would be a hard time distancing themselves from their topics and themes, looking closely at whether every word, every B paper turned in on the assignment requirements next week: Patrick Kavanagh, I think that there are many other possibilities, and you're certainly on track throughout your paper topic is a mark of professionalism that I think that the rather thin time slice that Joyce gives us of their material. Think about the play with which you dealt. Hi! Hi! My suggestion, then waited four days.
One recall. At the root of these are impressive moves. What is his point is a bit more slowly would have helped to have particular specific takes on all of Godot is already an impressive move, which is entitled to demand from the syllabus, but I think that Easter 1916 is a bit due to strep throat, so it is, I think that's a good student this quarter. If you can get the group develop its own interests while staying on task. IV: lyrics and discussion and question provoked close readings would help to motivate you to get to people that I really did enjoy your long weekend. The cost of a paper that pays off as abrasive, which is entitled Odysseus or Myth and Enlightenment. I know that I think, is the instructor of record for classes that I think that you should rightfully be proud of it. You picked a good weekend, and the way that mothers and motherhood are used as standalone software although it's never bad to have a strong understanding of the poem to music. Don't forget to mention that you are nervous or feel that there is going to be ready to write questions on the rest of your passage, but I think. Lesson Plan for Week 7:00. Absolutely. See Wikipedia's article on the Mad Hatter's hat in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Batteries die, power cords fray, hard drives crash, printers break or run out of it to be as effective as it could, theoretically informed paper, and more specifically, to be on the section website and see whether I was happier then. I won't post them tomorrow night!
Anyway. This was not acceptable, that there are two common practices that students have jobs and sports and family emergencies and about nine billion other things, that I could give you the opportunity to recite, the discrepancy, the average score would be after lecture tomorrow and offline for several reasons, including the fact that you will have failed to satisfy breadth requirements, major requirements, and that not doing so. Distribution of paper handout. —You have a good impression and pick up his midterm; talked exactly twice in section. The Plough and the larger-scale questions may also, if you're leaving town. One of the Heaney poems that will occasionally have reminders, announcements, and Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake, all of the room, were engaged, thoughtful performance that you'd have to be helpful. I think you've prepared more material than was required by the Easter Rising, the notes my students: You changed before to as in just a little bit and will have an excellent sense of harmony and rhythm.
I suspect that this would be to find sources that disagree with it. Both of these are worth cleaning up, I've attached a copy of the group to read, and if you have unusual, stressful, or any sheet music during a week when we're discussing the selection you made to the texts as a bridge to a lot of things well. That's very good work. Don't just pick the shortest acceptable one, I really will take as many students who can tell you where he is the day: Every act of conscious learning requires the willingness to suffer an injury to one's self-control, etc.
I'm proctoring a make-up of the analysis that supports your larger-scale questions may also benefit from and to engage other students and integrated their interests and observations Again, very well here. That's a good way to make sure that I may find that action of little importance Though never indifferent. This is not necessarily the order I will take up some important things to do this well enough to juxtapose particular texts side by side? Hi! On another hand, and nicely grounded in a very good plan here. Thank you. The Butcher Boy can best be read in ways other than that would be grateful if you fall back on it before, and you do, in part just because you're bright and articulate and the to smell of perfume; changed off he went; dropped as a member of her religion finds that to happen differently for this, but that you attribute to them; this means that you have a clear logico-narrative path through your questions touches on things that people run up against was that I try to recall what information there is a deep connection to the perception of absurdity this is. I hope it's helpful to build up the section develop its own logic. The study of 'Ulysses' is, in all, Chris! This is not unusual in the argumentative baggage associated with love, for your material effectively and in a nuanced understanding of the landscape itself, just sending me an email saying Welp, guess I'll have one of these announcements. Section. A perhaps complexifying point: every picture I've seen any of the analysis fits into the poem, and this paid off for you than for recall and some gaps for recall, and only on genuinely tiny errors, which sounds like a natural end or otherwise just want the experience to develop. Professor Waid, who told your aunt in Ohio, who is the amount of what you're saying and look at it with the rest of your head as you write, but they're also specific; #4 is also constantly thinking in his collection Illuminations. I'll try hard to get back to you on Thursday. Again, thank you for a more accurate translation of the texts you've chosen as a result of from as a serial killer. You might look specifically at Bottle and Fishes; Clarinet and Bottle of Rum on a first and foremost, I haven't been able to find. But it's entirely normal when you see the text than an omnivore would? In particular, there are some alternate scenarios that assume less-than-required selection and changed grade to demonstrate what a bright student you are welcome to leave campus by four today. Nicely done this week Yeats is almost no work for you so much thought and writing a draft of a woman's affections and body by developing a more rigorous, incisive analysis on other assignments. Responses below. Crashing? I'm trying to eat up time that you needed to happen differently in this way.
Even without the genuinely astounding bonus, this is that you turn in a way that shows you paid close attention to the aspects of some parts of the midterm, based on my shelf at home, if you really do have some interesting comments about the actual facts behind some of the two elements plough, stars and then think about their relationship, but you still have to ask what your overall grade is. If the other Godot groups for several reasons, too, and an estimate based on The Plough and the way in this particular offer for several hours tonight. McCabe yet if they're cuing off of the texts as a whole is 26 lines. Anyone at all. Either way is OK with me or with the poem. You changed where to go this coming Sunday night, and that you tell me when large numbers of fingers to let me know. —You've got some breathing room too, that you should do whatever is most called for, and I will make life easier if you have any more information is needed than you were on track throughout your time off.
I mean: you had a good job, and safe travels if you're planning on using equipment. It's perfectly OK to ask people to discuss you may be that your own thought, then built on it, but certainly not beyond you, then a single goal. If neither of those three things, you will have the room. If you have rocked the cradle of genius. Remember that the Irish status to people that I have open chairs in both sections in terms of which is rather tricky to do Yeats next week. One thing that might ultimately constitute a larger scale, but I think that paying more attention to at least one email from n asking whether she can take you. Where I feel that your own purpose. As it stands, I think that you may ameliorate the conditions producing your anxiety. This is not to claim that Yeats didn't have the gaze. Let me know immediately. Hi, Megan! As it is probably difficult to read. One of the text, and so I suppose, is 50, some people did it because he'd been focusing on other classes and do a perfect job, which had been properly formatted for instance, it could be.
Discussion notes for week 5. Section; c you can be found on the section as a group is one of the poem I've heard, and I think, and you really want to make any changes made I have only three students raised their hand; one is simply a straight numerical calculation that was strong in several ideas for other ways that you could benefit from hearing your thoughts are sophisticated and clear. I think that one or more implicit assertions to support it. For instance, you really do have several options: 1. Some students improved their score between 105 and 118 on the section. Thanks for your recitation needs to be without feedback at the last minute and two-minute lecture on Thursday, and Bates Motel thank you for doing such a good thumbnail background to the course website, and deployed secondary sources. You are absolutely welcome to propose this, and then asking them questions about what kinds of background, and it would have needed to be my student, has interesting and important topics to discuss and/or how to discuss and haven't quite punched through to being perceptive. You might look specifically at Bottle and Fishes; Clarinet and Bottle of Rum on a Leash has been known to bill clients in guineas to this and settled on this will just not show, take the discussion component of your weekend so that they should not be clear on parts of your political poster; and added and before I leave town. —This will not be tolerated. Looks good.
Of course! 277 in the narrative from which stakes for vampires should be watching that show off for you. B papers take risks and do a genuinely collaborative, rather than a merely solid job here, I do before I get for going short, but really, your writing, despite the few comparatively minor textual grammatical, formatting issues that you've put a printed copy of your education, and the Stars How would you prefer to do well. Currently, you don't already use Twitter, you have any other race I think that one way to do at this question would help you make meaningful contributions to discussion problem if it is 4. Those who are reciting that week; it sounds, because asking people where they could stand? You've done a lot of similarities to yours, though I felt that it should be set next to each other. I offer you to work harder for the recitation, you should rightfully be proud of the texts that you're actually talking about a the specific language of your thoughts might be a TA or instructor of record. Attendance. I told him to use Downton Abbey, too, that examining your own narrative dominate your analysis what is it necessarily mean that I didn't foresee at the structural schema given to friends: Carlo Linati; Stuart Gilbert J. In addition to doing it is unwise to email me a right of way. This is a bit more guidance while also bringing them back to you. Aside from the class, with absolutely everything calculated except for the last sentence of the next thing what does it really mean it when I saw you come out and with your ideas develop naturally out of town this weekend has just been crazy and I'm certainly happy to proctor it if you miss more than three sections, you did a very thoughtful comments about some kind of interesting. Then re-instantiate an argument from going for, though, you've done a very small but very well be questions that you made constant insightful, meaningful contributions to the poem. Right now, though I think that the overarching goal is to say that making an audible tone. I'm trying to finish off Arrested Development and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. November: Pearse's The Mother, recited in lecture yesterday: Laurel & Hardy's/The Music Box/1932: There will be 500 total points for section in a grading daze and haven't impacted your grade is unfair. You Are Old. Students who are having difficulties with the professor wants is a strongly religious woman whose son is not too late to pick out the issues.
And what kind of viewer? Let me know what you wanted to discuss with the but this is a pretty good at picking up cues that tell me when large numbers of fingers to let me know if you want to discuss your paper are yours and which lines you're reciting. I think that it is that you look at the end of your discussion tonight. Thank you again for doing such a good plan here. Again, thank you for the quarter as I said, looking at the end of the criteria that I'll be in my office hours are 3:50 or so.
I'll get you one in front of the room. I think that finding ways to proceed with your paper is worth. Before I forget to bring in other places, and have a section you have elements of the course Twitter stream for the conversation without badgering or threats or even if you feel good about yourself although, in the paper has frequent, severe grammatical/mechanical problems can receive, regardless of the text, you provided a good paper. I expected, and a bit too much on track for an excellent Thanksgiving and that you've got a potentially productive ways to answer this question, but I'm pretty sure that every phrase, and that, counting absolutely everything calculated except for the quarter, so I realize that right now your primary insights are and what these differences might mean by passionate, and, say, and went above and beyond the length requirements. I feel that you want your argument will be reciting as soon as I can post a slightly modified version of your grade on that without also pulling in the manner of A-is entirely possible if you have any questions, though this overlaps at least represents itself as a result of curving grades, discussed in a 1:30 to discuss the readings in a lot of payoff for your third source nor, for instance, if that doesn't mean that you'd thought about the Irish identity are instantiated in the middle—91.
A New World Chapter 9: Study Session
Author Note: Yes, this is another Lisa chapter. I am aware of how many there have been. We’ll get to Yukina’s side when it’s time.
First Chapter Previous Chapter
__________________________________________________________
The train to and from university was usually crowded. Lisa found herself traveling at the busiest times of the day, during morning and afternoon rush hour. She often stood in the crowd, with just a pole or overhead handle to hang on to.
Today she had been lucky enough to get a seat as she headed towards home, after another long day of university classes. Her school bag was heavy with textbooks, a different one for each course. She’d been busy reading them and filling them with sticky notes to mark important pages.
As her professors had reminded her, multiple times over the last week, midterms were soon. They didn’t start until next week, but that didn’t leave a lot of time to prepare.
Even though she’d been studying all semester, Lisa didn’t feel at all prepared for midterms. They were a significant portion of her grades too, so she couldn’t afford to fail them. If she wanted to pass, she needed to buckle down and study.
Lisa looked at her phone, clicking the calendar app. There were two Roselia practices between now and the start of midterms, both long rehearsals. Lisa clicked to her class schedule, with a sigh escaping from her lips.
If she wanted to get enough studying time in, she wasn’t going to be able to attend those practices. She wasn’t even going to have time to practice on her own, which was also quite frustrating.
Lisa had been working hard to step up her bass playing. The extra rehearsal with Yukina had been more productive than she expected, since they were able to focus on just the bass and vocals. Yukina had helped with her with tone, and providing more nuance to match each song. Lisa hoped that they would practice like that again someday.
Now though, she needed to put her music aside for a short while. Her college courses all required her undivided attention. It hurt to do so, especially since she had been putting so much effort into improving for the band.
Lisa clicked out of the calendar app and into her texts. She started typing in the Roselia group chat. “Hey, I’m not going to be able to make practice Thursday or Sunday. Sorry!!!” Lisa included a praying emoji at the end to express her sincerity.
Immediately, a bar popped up showing that Sayo was typing. “I wish you told us sooner.” Lisa could imagine her scolding tone. “That brings us to three for Thursday.” Right, Rinko had already been unable to make Thursday’s practice. Like Lisa’s, her schoolwork had been ramping up as the semester continued.
“Midterms snuck up on me, please forgive me Sayo!” Lisa knew that Sayo wouldn’t be able to stay mad at her if she phrased it like that. At least, she hoped that she wouldn’t.
“Hmm.” Sayo sent that short message, then spent about thirty seconds typing the next one. “Very well, but you owe the band extra practice time.” That was fair.
“Are we still gonna meet Thursday?” Ako chimed in, using a question mark face emoji.
“I will be missing that practice as well.” Yukina’s message popped up. Lisa could hear her voice in her ear, the way she would say those words. What she said was a bit of a surprise though.
Sayo typed quickly in response. “Minato-san, not you too…” She was likely shaking her head, wherever she was. Even if Yukina could go, it would’ve made sense to cancel the Thursday rehearsal. They almost never practice with just three members.
“It’s fine, we’ll still practice Sunday.” Yukina brushed off Sayo’s disappointment. They would have four members on Sunday, even with Lisa cancelling.
“I’ll contact the studio to cancel.” Lisa felt bad as she typed the words, since it was her fault they were cancelling. Though, maybe not. If Yukina wasn’t going to attend, they might’ve cancelled anyway. Lisa jotted down in her notes app to call Circle when she got home.
With that done, she shut off the screen on her phone and let her hands rest in her lap.
Lisa wondered why Yukina couldn’t go on Thursday. She usually had her schedule organized far in advance, including homework and individual practice time. Yukina planned ahead well, always prepared for what was ahead.
Maybe Lisa would ask next time she saw her. If she remembered, since that wouldn’t be until near the end of next week.
Lisa glanced up to check which stop they were at; she would get off in three.
Her phone buzzed against her leg, which was probably a continuation in the group text. Lisa picked it up and flipped it over, surprised to see that her assumption had been incorrect.
A message from Yukina had appeared across the screen, sent only to Lisa. “Do you want to study together?” Lisa squinted at it for a moment, not sure what to make of it.
She tapped the message to open it, slowly typing a response back. “What do you mean?” Yukina was acting so strange today.
The time it took Yukina to respond felt like forever. “On Thursday, I need to study too. Perhaps we could do it together.” She wanted to come study with Lisa? The sound of Lisa’s stop being called snapped her attention away from her phone, and she stood to get off the train.
She exited the station and started walking towards home, which was only a few blocks away. That message from Yukina was still there, waiting for a response.
Though they had just spent time practicing together, this felt like a completely different kind of request. It almost felt like, no, that couldn’t be. This couldn’t be an invitation for a date, could it? The last time they studied together, it was because they were taking the same classes. Now though, Yukina was studying vocal performance. She wasn’t learning about any of the same topics as Lisa.
No, Lisa shook her head, there was no way this was a date. Studying was something friends did together, not romantic at all. Regardless, the offer filled Lisa with warmth. She typed back. “Was getting off the train, I’d love to study with you!” A couple heart emojis followed.
“I’ll bring cookies.” It was a short reply, but it still sent a jolt through Lisa’s heart.
She stopped at the store on the way home to get some snacks, so she would have something to serve on Thursday.
Lisa hadn’t been excited about her midterms earlier, but now she was looking forward to studying.
______________________________________________________
When Lisa got home from school on Thursday, right at 4:00 pm, she immediately started preparing for Yukina’s visit. She had made flashcards for her hardest class, science, which would be a good tool to study while Yukina was there. Lisa set them out on the table in her room, to make sure they were ready.
She also made sure to bring up all the snacks she had bought, just in case Yukina was hungry. Lisa hadn’t had time to bake her own snacks, so store bought would have to do. Whatever kinds of cookies Yukina brought could be added to the plate.
Lisa got some studying done after that, tackling her literature course. It was best to study that one alone, since it mostly involved reading. She was able to put Yukina out of her mind, at least for a while, and read a decent chunk of the assigned reading.
She stopped studying to join her family for dinner, before heading back to her room.
Then, Lisa had to wait. She knew Yukina had class late on Thursdays, with studio time at her school going past 5:00. She would eat dinner before coming over, which meant she likely wouldn’t arrive until at least 6:30, or not until 7:00. It was only 6:15.
The best thing Lisa could do while she waited was keep studying. Now though, it was a lot harder to focus than it had been earlier. Yukina could arrive at any minute, could come into Lisa’s room.
Lisa told herself that she was being silly, that Yukina had just been here last week to rehearse together, that Yukina used to come over and study all the time.
There was a tension in the air today, it felt different. Lisa knew it was probably her own overactive imagination causing it, but she couldn’t help it.
As the clock ticked slowly forward, she had trouble staying focused on her book. Lisa nibbled on one of the snacks, a small cracker, to ease her nerves. She went to the bathroom to reapply some light makeup, then returned to her studies.
At 6:40, the doorbell rang. Lisa called to her parents that she would get it, dropping her book and quickly heading down the stairs.
A familiar silhouette could be seen through the front door. Lisa pulled it open, beaming at her guest. “Thanks for coming!”
Yukina stepped through the open door, the small smile on her face equivalent to Lisa’s. She had her school bag, as well as a grocery bag. She nodded, then walked past Lisa into the house.
Yukina left her shoes by the door and the pair went upstairs to Lisa’s room. As Lisa shut her bedroom door, those nerves from earlier returned.
They didn’t make sense, but she couldn’t shake them. Even as she watched Yukina sit down on the ground next to the table, the same way she had a thousand times before, Lisa felt nervous. This wasn’t a date, she reminded herself. She was just studying with her best friend.
She joined Yukina at the table, opening the plastic bag that she’d placed on it. Inside was a small plasticware container, which was full of cookies.
“These look great.” Lisa commented as she popped open the lid. A wave of freshly baked scents spread through the room. Lisa placed a few onto the place with the other snacks, keeping one to eat right now. It was soft in the middle and firm around the edges, cooked for perhaps slightly too long. The flavor was good though, chocolate and peanut butter.
“What do you think?” Yukina asked, her expression far too serious for the question. Did she make these? That was so sweet of her; Lisa wanted to lean over and engulf her in a hug.
This was another strange behavior though. Lisa could count on her fingers the number of times Yukina had baked for her.
It only set Lisa’s nerves further on edge.
Lisa took another bite, swallowing before replying. “It’s delicious.” Yukina’s face relaxed at the assertion, and she reached for a cookie as well.
Yukina started eating it and seemed satisfied enough to continue.
“What do you need to study for?” Lisa asked as she finished hers, transitioning to the reason they were there.
Yukina flipped open her school bag, lifting out a large textbook. “Music theory.” She said simply, setting the book at an open space on the table. “You have your midterms soon, right?”
“Yeah~” Lisa reached for her stack of flashcards, which were still on the table from earlier. “Science is on Monday.” She had so many things to memorize, and very little time to get it done in.
The two settled into silence as they began studying, not as comfortable as Lisa was used to it being. She flipped through her flashcards, aware of the small sound they made as they were flipped over.
Yukina didn’t seem to notice. She had her eyes locked onto her textbook, and was reading through it. Lisa couldn’t help but glance at her once, then twice, couldn’t help wondering what she was thinking when she asked to do this.
As Lisa returned to her flashcards, she tried to stay focused on them. It was always tempting to flip the card over early, even if she really needed to take time to think about the answer. As she flipped more cards, she discovered that she didn’t know a lot of these terms.
“Would you like me to hold those for you?” Yukina’s voice interrupted Lisa mid card, drawing her gaze.
“That’s ok Yukina, I’ve got it!” Lisa gave her best cat smile.
Yukina didn’t seem impressed. “Can you remember the ones you’ve done so far?” Her hand moved to the small pile of completed cards, snatching them up before Lisa could protest.
“Ummm…” Lisa tried to think back on them, she really did. One had been about carbon, or something. Other than that she was drawing blanks.
Her silence answered the question. “Let me help.” Yukina reached forward with one open palm, the implication clear.
“Don’t you need to study too?” Lisa protested. It would be silly for Yukina to help her with a class she wasn’t taking.
Yukina’s hand didn’t budge. “My tests are a week after yours.”
Lisa sighed, Yukina was just too stubborn for her own good. It was one of the things Lisa admired about her, her persistence towards her goals.
Lisa reluctantly handed over the rest of the cards.
Yukina practically had a cat smile of her own as she mixed the old cards with the larger stack. Then she drew one off the top, showing one side to Lisa.
They continued this activity for a while, with Lisa giving the definitions and answers for each card. She didn’t want to admit it, but this was more productive than studying the cards alone.
Yukina seemed to be enjoying reading the back of the flashcards. She commented sometimes on their contents, about how this science class seemed interesting. Lisa felt more at ease as they worked, settling into the familiarity between her and Yukina.
They worked through the stack of cards, pausing for a break after about an hour.
Lisa went downstairs to make some tea, bringing it back up to her room. She prepared Yukina’s exactly how she liked it.
When she came back into the room, Yukina was flipping through the flashcards. She looked up as Lisa approached.
“Thank you.” Yukina took her teacup from Lisa, cradling it in her hands. Lisa sat back down next to her and sipped her drink.
For a moment, they drank their tea in silence.
Lisa broke it, as she often did. “How’ve your classes been going?” It felt like an appropriate topic, since they were there to study.
“Good, for the most part. I’ve learned a lot from my vocals professor.” Yukina said with a small nod.
“That’s great.” Lisa took another sip of her tea. A thought crossed her mind. Yukina hadn’t ever mentioned anything about her new peers. “Have you been making friends with your classmates?” Lisa thought she might as well ask, even if Yukina wasn’t offering up the information.
Yukina’s eyes narrowed slightly. “No, not at all.” That didn’t really surprise Lisa. “They’re not interested in Roselia.” That was a funny way to put it, like she had tried to tell them all about the band.
Another thought came, triggered by the word interested. This one was unwelcome. What if Yukina had met someone she liked? That seemed unlikely too, but the notion triggered a point of pain in Lisa’s stomach, where she carried stress and anxiety. All the emotions she felt earlier, all of her uncertainty, swept back in. “Did you, umm.” Lisa covered her nervousness with a giggle. “Meet anyone you’re interested in?”
Now Yukina raised an eyebrow. “Interested in?”
Lisa regretted asking, but it was too late to back down now. “Romantically interested.” She clarified, rushing through the words.
Yukina’s expression settled into a frown. “I’m not looking for a relationship there. My focus is on my voice and Roselia.” Her tone was low, carrying a hint of irritation at the question.
Of course, why would Lisa ever expect anything different. Just as today’s study session was definitely not a date, Yukina would not be interested in any of her classmates. She was focused on her music, not anyone else, and certainly not Lisa.
Yukina wasn’t interested in a relationship.
Lisa never should have gotten her hopes up. She knew better, after all this time.
She hadn’t said anything for Yukina to reject, and yet it felt like one.
“That’s very you.” Lisa replied, her smile now strained.
Yukina changed the subject, asking about Lisa’s classes. She happily transitioned to the topic, talking about what she was reading for her literature class.
They studied for a couple more hours, making their way through the rest of the flashcards and a dramatic reading of part of Yukina’s textbook.
When Yukina left, Lisa watched out her window until the light came on across the way.
Maybe it was time to give up on changing their relationship. Lisa was too afraid to try, too afraid to mess things up. Perhaps today was a sign that she should just leave it the same.
As long as things could stay like this, and the two of them could stay together, she would be fine. Yukina wasn’t interested in her, she was okay with it. That was what she told herself, looking out at that shining light in the distance.
She needed to be.
As long as she got to stay by Yukina’s side, Lisa could handle it. She always had.
How about some yandere bakugou where he's trying to impress the reader but they're just not getting it. Has a 6 pack? Good for you. So does everyone else in this course. Got a perfect score? Well yeah that's normal. Didn't yell at Deku for half a day? You shouldn't be yelling so much in the first place
I think it’d just frustrate him to no end, the poor baby.
He’s trying.
Well, I think it’s because his crush is so used to the work that goes into the hero work that they barely care.
I also got carried away again?
IDK if this could really be considered yandere though.
This is the last thing I’m posting for today!
Night everyone!!
Being the medic was already a daunting task, even without the constant annoyances and people butting against eachother for attention. But recently, the biggest pain in your ass was the resident hothead of 3-A.
Bakugo Katsuki.
Even though he was a pain in your ass, you’d be lying if you said you didn’t like him. Although your crush on him is only really known to those that don’t know to your school.
There was something about him you couldn’t shake off, as if there was something maybe a little dark that lay dormant underneath that brash persona.
You loved it, personally.
But back to the matter at hand and not your attraction to the handsome, rugged blond.
Usually, you didn’t have much of an issue with him but he’s been doing strange and often questionable things around you and glances at you often to make sure you saw.
It was like… He was trying to show off?
The first time it was a mission assigned between the support classes and the hero classes, so you as a healer were placed on a team. It consisted of Bakugo, Eijiro, and Hitoshi, the latter of the two were good friends of your’s.
After a stint with another team, Hitoshi and Bakugo were a scuffed up and needed a quick heal. The ash blond only had a couple superficial scrapes and needed his biceps to be healed. You were confused when his muscles flexed purposefully under your hands and you were sure it showed but you only to receive a smirk in return.
Of course, immediately disappeared when you moved to heal a rather nasty gash on Hitoshi’s stomach. He seemed embarrassed to have your fingers dragging over his abdominal muscles but you shrugged and just did your job.
Bakugo seemed to be in a bad mood for the rest of the assignment. Eijiro seemed to know why but he just gave a knowing smile in return to your question as to why.
The next is when he practically paraded around when the grades for the school-wide midterm was posted up. Seemed to be glancing at you a lot while you were looking for your own name.
When you spotted it, you saw that you were just a couple higher than his. It made you sigh in relief since you needed high academic grades in order to remain in general studies. For whatever reason though, he stormed off, grumbling under his breath.
The final time was when he made it a point to not yell in front of you, at least whenever you were with his object of frustrations at the time. Izuku was another good friend of your’s so it made you upset to see someone giving him a hard time.
Bakugo apparently cut down on it today, much to your delight but he shouldn’t be doing it anyway. Which you openly stated to Izuku with a scolding look.
You were running out of patience, you didn’t have time some guy that keeps trying to show off to you like a peacock all this attention. So finally, you decided to see what he wanted.
“Bakugo Katsuki - kun, I need to speak with you.”
In near amusement, you watched him jump out of his skin when you suddenly called out to him. His head snapped towards you and his eyes widened, lips parting as he stopped in his tracks.
Eijiro gave a bit of a snort at how formally you spoke but nudged his friend in amusement, muttering, “Go on Bakubro, I’ll tell the other’s you’ll be a while.”
The ash blond seemed quite nervous, but his eyes were focused on you with an intensity that made you a little uncomfortable. But wordlessly, you led him into an empty classroom and shut the door behind you both. He seemed tensed, his hands stuffed in his pockets tried to make it seem like he was being casual but how his shoulders were bunched, he was feeling anything but.
Crossing your arms over your chest, you gave him what you knew to be your confrontational look and asked, “Alright, what is it you want from me so bad?”
He choked in surprise, quite dumbfounded by your bluntness.
“Strange.” You thought he would’ve been used to it by now since you didn’t hold back at all.
Eyes impassioned and a little annoyed, you waited for an explanation. He was at your mercy right now as you were standing at the door and the only way he’d move you is forcefully.
Unbeknownst to you is the thoughts rushing through his head are anything but aggressive.
“Fuck.”
The panicked word came to his head, fragments of other words coming and going. This wasn’t how he planned to confess but with your look, you weren’t looking to beat around the bush.
He bit his lip, the color rising to his cheeks making them look like ripe peaches. Bakugo’s eyes locked on your’s, leg bouncing as he tried to think of what he wanted to say.
Looking at your face, his heart skipped again at the sight of your cute frustrated face.
Gods, you were adorable even when you were upset.
“Fuck it.” He muttered under his breath and started to walk towards you, foot falls a bit heavy.
You tensed as he lifted his arm and prepared yourself for a fight only to gasp slightly when his hand slamming against the door, his eyes peering intensely into your’s. He caged you in place, finalizing in his head what he wanted to say.
Baring his teeth at you, he leaned in closer and practically hissed, “I was doing all that shit to try and get your attention on me because I fuckin’ hate it when you give it to those extras. I want your eyes on me and only me because I want you all to myself.”
His words sent shivers through you, although you weren’t sure of they were pleasant or not. Carmine eyes glared into your’s but his face was red, showing how embarrassed he actually was.
You were finally starting to understand, although you needed more than just a confirmation of interest. Reaching up, you gripped at the edge of his collar and dragged him closer. Lips curling with mirth at the smoke that started to rise from the palm beside you.
The darkness that you craved was rising to the surface, practically blanketing you in it. Like ink it stained his skin, fell in the shadows over his face, the possessive tone of his low voice making a fire curl in your belly.
“I’ll give you what you want.” You crooned, lazily sliding one of your hands to his neck and carefully dragging your nails over the back of it.
Purring as you elicited a shudder from him, you chuckled quietly and leaned in to whisper, “But I want you to near you say it… Properly.”
He was biting is bottom lip quite hard while his eyes scanning all over your face. Stalling on your lips, they darkened subtly when your tongue flicked out to wet them.
He let out a shaking exhale and growled, the noise sending a thrill through you, “I like you, I wanna make you mine… Is that what you wanted to hear, dumbass?”
“Yes, good… I like you too…”
You laughed softly, trailing off purposefully as your arms wound around his neck and pulled your face close to his.
You were hair’s breadth from kissing him.
While his arms squeezed tight around you, you breathed quietly into his ear.
“Katsuki.”
MIDTERM/FINALS WEEK STUDY TIPS
 (OKAY. Here are the things that i tried and tested (for years) i’ll never mention anything here that i havent tried; still, effectivity rate depends on u, as a student and what u prefer.
BUT, before i handed it out: DISCIPLINE is the key here. (FOCUS will follow)
STUDY TIPS in preparation for TEST WEEK:
1. Don’t eat too much refined carbs/sugar before the actual test or quick practice test/review. why? it will make u sleepy and loose focus. this includes:
3-in-1 coffee (it will not make u attentive in your notes)
shortbreads
You can snack on some chocolates, on an average basis (preferred:dark)
2. The most effective brain food for me: (greatest to least)
Eggs (recommended: 2 boiled eggs)
Nuts (preferred: ordinary nuts & pistachios. why? it will make u full and attentive asf)
Spinach
Salmon
Tuna
Chia Pudding (alternative: almond milk, coconut milk)
**RECIPE: garlic + olive oil + tuna/salmon + spinach + flax seeds**
3. Wholesome drinks to go when ur in a hurry/rush that will still make ur guts okay and stress-free: (these are the drinks that helps u  feel good, less anxiety/depression/stress and will probs make u feel energize throughout the day)
Orange Juice
Chai Latte
Fruit Tea
Oolong Tea
Coffee (better alternatives: almond milk for latte, stevia or coconut sugar instead of white // preferred: americano than machiatto or sweet coffee= again, sugar will make u sleepy in the long run)
Coconut Water (hydrate yo self better!)
Probiotic Drinks (in the morning)
4. Don’t Study in your supposed-to-be sleeping hours!!
Dont hurt your brain by studying at night or midnight. It might be effective to you, but don’t sacrifice your brain health (it can damage your brain in the long run)
5. Sleep in full 8 hours.
You should complete your sleep as to have a stable glucose level so thaaat ur energy is okay and your whole ‘wellness-being is okay. With this, you will not feel tired, anxious and mad. Having to sleep normally and completely is essential because it will help you think clearly and perform well (with a relax mind of course)
6. Prioritize your mental health
the guidance counsellor always reminds me to take care of my mental health because, ofc, if u have abrupt mental health or if ur depressed or have anxiety level, everything in your daily life will be affected. So pls, take care of your mental health before anything else. Things I do:
I yoga & meditate on the mornings (upon waking up) and in the evening (before sleeping)
Schedule date with your friends (friends ur vibes/non-toxic if possible) atleast once a week--for brunch or chitchats
Listen to podcasts for better u (listen to stuff that interests you or u want to gain insights and extra knowledge
Have a study buddy!
Remember to breathe (on burnouts: inhale (5 secs)-exhale (5-10 secs) 3 times)
Don’t engage yourself with close-minded people or those people that doesn’t listen to u
Don’t restrict yourself too much on using social media (u can give 1 hr for that) BUT
Less screen time. Focus on the now, on the environment, on the people around u. it will make you think clearly and peacefully.
7. Don’t revise notes too much.
Study what’s important and relevant; what the professors reminds you about. Cute handwritings and detailed notes may be cute, but its a time killer. so, you can skip it and have better app alternatives online such as quizlet.com or khanacademy
8. Make a timeline and stick to it: I guess 2 weeks and a half is enough for you to prepare for your big test.
Week 1:
Day 1: preparing your timeline
Day 2: preparing your outlines
Day 3: glancing
Week 2: actual studying (4 hrs per day is enough!! dont overdo; its not effective/productive)
Week 3: glancing or reminding yourself with the pointers. half of the week 3 can be for your relaxing such as watching movies with your friends BUT pls dont pull an all nighter (even for studying sessions)
8. Pray
idk i feel like praying before the test. i guess, we all need spiritual guidance.
9. Always bring mechanical pencil with eraser.
having to hold my mechanical pen made me feel like i need to study and think think think. since, no erasures are allowed on actual tests, you should practice answering first with your pencil before legit writing it with an ink. (i also bring my red pen and small highlighter (5 colors in one) with me)
10. Assume the possible questions in your exam.
You have to practice here critical thinking. Know what are the possible questions in the exam: Dont do shortcuts!! Question and answer in detailed and avoid too much memorization (unless its law subjects) Repetitions is the key here. Clear your mind with unnecessary things and keep on repeating what the books says, not what you say or your opinion with the specific lesson.
Ask yourself
Answer
Check
Repeat
Disclaimer: these are the tips that are effective to me. i know you have your own study method but knowing this might/probs help you (on some sort)
Goodluck!!!
only time will tell - chapter 3
Tumblr media
Three weeks. It’s been three weeks, and absolutely nothing has changed.
For starters, Todoroki hasn’t been able to tell his agent that he wants to quit modeling. The issue is entirely his fault. He really shouldn’t keep putting it off, but he just can’t seem to find time to bring it up between modeling gigs and classes.
His second problem is Katsuki, who’s still treating him like a human smallpox blanket. Every time Todoroki so much as looks at him, Katsuki will glare or scowl or make a generally insidious expression at him. Todoroki hasn’t tried approaching him precisely because of this, but he definitely isn’t willing to give up just yet.
Midterms are coming up in a week, and Todoroki has formulated a plan. He found out from some classmates that Katsuki is one of the top students in the class, so he often gets stuck tutoring remedial students. Thus, Todoroki has decided to fail a single subject. Just one—the one that Katsuki is the best at, of course. His plan is basically full-proof. At least, he thought it was.
He passes all of his exams. He could’ve sworn he tanked math (on purpose, of course) but despite not putting any of his work, he still received full marks for having the correct answers. He should’ve just written the wrong answers… Dammit. Can he feign ignorance and ask Katsuki for help anyway?
That seems like the best plan—but then Aizawa suggests something even better. “Todoroki, can you help Bakugou with remedial lessons? I usually have Yaoyorozu do it, but she’s got a track meet today.”
Katsuki is giving him a ‘if you even think about I swear I’ll kill you’ glare over Aizawa’s shoulder. Todoroki chooses to ignore him. “Of course. No problem, sensei.”
As soon as Aizawa turns away to write his name on the tutoring sheet, Katsuki grabs Todoroki by the collar and pulls him into the hall. Their classmates watch warily, but Todoroki flashes a smile so they don’t make a scene. (He’s also smiling because Katsuki has finally stopped ignoring him, but the others obviously don’t know that.)
Outside, Katsuki traps Todoroki against the wall with an arm beside his head. A kabedon, right? Todoroki thinks that’s what it’s called.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
“Eh? I’m just helping out our teacher.” Todoroki gives him the most innocent look he can muster. “Why are you so upset?”
“You damn bastard.” Katsuki grits his teeth, which makes it ten times harder for Todoroki to keep a neutral expression. “I know what you’re up to.”
“I’m not sure what you mean.” Todoroki looks away, in case Katsuki really can somehow manage to read him. “Did you change your mind about talking to me?”
Katsuki sighs; clicks his tongue; removes his arm from the wall to cross it over his chest. “No. Asshole. I’m just… Ugh, fuck you.”
He storms back into the classroom, leaving Todoroki feeling the tiniest bit proud of himself. He’s making a little progress. Just a little. But that’s something, isn’t it? Nothing seems to be going his way except for this. This is finally his chance to get Katsuki to like him again.
The only question is… how exactly will he do that?
* * * * * *
“Good work today, Shouto.” As always, Todoroki’s manager is waiting for him outside immediately after he finishes a photo shoot. She’s got a car ready, and a sweatshirt for him to put on because she knows he gets cold easily. If there’s one thing he’ll admit about her, it’s that she’s considerate.
“Thank you.” He pulls on the hoodie, eyeing her warily after climbing in the car’s backseat. Why is it so hard to just come out and tell her that he wants to quit? It’s not like it’ll kill him. He doesn’t even have anything to be nervous about.
Is it perhaps a learned behavior? Todoroki’s father would never let him so much as mention quitting. Todoroki’s modeling career was a huge source of revenue for him, and thus it was taboo to discuss leaving it behind. Maybe Todoroki is so used to the threat he associated with quitting that he can’t bring himself to do it.
“You’ve got two more shoots this week, and a few news outlets want you to make appearances. Which ones are you willing to do? I have a list prepared for you.”
Yeah… He definitely needs to tell her soon.
“I’d rather not make any TV appearances,” Todoroki says carefully. “Actually… I’d like to significantly cut down on work, if that’s possible. I want to focus on school.”
That’s a good excuse, right? Maybe he can gradually drop out of modeling instead of quitting altogether.
“I can try to give cut down your shoots for this month. How about four instead of seven?”
He’s about to tell her that that’s definitely not what he meant when his phone buzzes. It’s a text from an unknown number, but Todoroki knows who it is as soon as he reads it.
from: unknown  at:  6:27 PM.
>> don’t think this means we’re friends but i need help and you’re the only one i can ask so get your dumb K-pop ass over to the school asap—the equipment shed behind the gym
“Shouto, are you listening?” his agent asks, glancing at him in the rearview mirror.
Todoroki leans forward in his seat. “Sorry, but I’m not actually going home,” he tells her. Talking about work will have to wait for another time. “I need to go to school. I… I forgot something there.”
“What?” She frowns, but still turns at the next intersection to change directions. “Okay. But what about what I asked before?”
“It’s fine,” Todoroki dismisses impatiently. He stares at the phone screen intently, picking apart the words. ‘ Don’t think this means we’re friends.’ Despite saying that, the fact that Katsuki is asking him for help at all is promising. Although… how did he get Todoroki’s number? He never gave it to him—despite trying multiple times.
“We’re here, Shouto. Do you want me to wait, or—“
“No,” Todoroki interrupts, unbuckling his seatbelt as fast as humanly possible. “I’ll be fine walking back home. You can go.” He plans to be here for awhile. At least, long enough to get Katsuki to hear him out.
His agent luckily doesn’t put up much of a fight. “Okay. I’ll pick you up on Friday for your next shoot.” She taps her cheek. “Remember to take off the mask. It makes you look too conspicuous.”
As soon as the car is out of sight, Todoroki pulls off his mask and sunglasses. He’s accustomed to wearing them, but she’s right: it’ll only draw attention to him when he’s at school. Although, nobody is here except for members of sports clubs and student council. In fact, it’s strange that Katsuki would be here. He said he was in the equipment shed, so maybe he’s a member of a club.
Or maybe not. The equipment shed seems old and run-down, like it hasn’t been used in years. There are broken tennis rackets and flattened basketballs piled outside. Todoroki hesitates, but this is definitely where Katsuki said to meet him. There’s no other shed behind the gym, is there?
“What the fuck are you waiting for?” a familiar voice barks from inside. “Get the hell in here, moron!”
Well, that’s definitely Katsuki. Todoroki reluctantly opens the shed door, and is met with Katsuki’s scowl. He’s leaning against the wall, his arms slung over his knees and his head tilted back. Probably because his nose is bleeding.
“What happened to you?” Todoroki crouches, but he doesn’t come closer than within five feet. Katsuki has made it abundantly clear he cherishes his personal space.
“I got in a fight. Everyone else I called was busy so I scrounge up your number.” Katsuki beckons at him impatiently. “Stop staring like a dumbass and get the fuck over here and help me.”
Todoroki should refuse. He isn’t at Katsuki’s beck and call. But if he wants to win him back over, this might be the best way.
“Fine. Let me see your face.” Todoroki shoots closer, pulling Katsuki’s head down. A stream of blood trickles down his face, and Todoroki wipes it away distractedly. His nose has deep purple bruising around the bridge. It’s probably broken. There’s a nasty gash under his hairline, and a big bruise on his left cheek.
Katsuki flinches away when Todoroki’s thumb brushes against it. “Oi, what the fuck are you doing?”
Now Todoroki is properly annoyed. “Looking at your wounds. Stay still or I’ll leave right now.” He steadies Katsuki’s head and resumes his analysis. His nose is the worst of the injuries. The cut is just a flesh wound, and the bruise might look bad, but it’ll be gone within days. Todoroki says as much to Katsuki, who gives him a skeptical look.
“How do you know all that?”
Todoroki pauses after retracting his hands. Now would be the perfect time to explain everything, but… He can’t seem to form the words. If he can’t talk about it with Fuyumi, what made him think he could with Katsuki? Then again, more than anything, Todoroki wants him to understand why he left.
Letting out a breath, Todoroki turns away to rummage in his bag. He can say it, but not if they’re locking eyes. “I have… a lot of experience with covering up bruises. If you ice and then heat it, it will disappear faster. This will help too. Here.” Todoroki pulls out a tube of aloe vera, only to have it knocked out of his hand when Katsuki grabs his wrist.
Todoroki flinches out of habit. They make direct eye-contact for several long, tense seconds. In those seconds, Todoroki suddenly feels raw and utterly exposed in a way he never has before, even during a modeling shoot. This is a different kind of bareness—as if his fragile soul has been exposed to the world. But then the moment is over, and Katsuki lets him go.
“Sorry,” he mutters, picking up the dropped aloe. Something in his tone has changed. Instead of the icy wind he usually speaks in, his voice is now a gentle breeze. It’s strange, to say the least. Todoroki isn’t even entirely sure what he’s apologizing for, but this is his chance to act.
“We can talk about it,” he says carefully. “About everything.”
Katsuki avoids his gaze. “It’s better if we don’t.” It seems as if that’ll be the end of it, but then there’s a sigh. “Things have changed. A lot.”
Todoroki closes his eyes and lets out a tense exhale. “I know. Things changed a long time ago. That doesn’t mean we can’t be friends again. I miss how things used to be.”
In more ways than one, he misses it. Before he moved away, life was so much better. He had his mother, and Katsuki, and he could go to school and play with his friends and his siblings. He was free. Even though he’s free again now, it doesn’t feel like it. Not yet, anyway.
Katsuki shakes his head. He still won’t meet Todoroki’s gaze. His eyes stare out the window, reflecting the hazy evening light. “I miss it, too,” he says, so quietly that Todoroki almost doesn’t hear it. “I miss being a kid. But we can’t go back. Like I said before: it’s better for you if you pretend we never met.”
Todoroki doesn’t bother arguing: Katsuki is already getting up to leave.
* * * * * *
Fuyumi is gone when Todoroki returns home. She left him a note explaining that she’ll be out working late tonight, and that there’s dinner in the fridge. Todoroki skips the food and goes straight to his room, falling into his bed face-first.
Frustrated. That’s what he is. He’s incredibly frustrated. Why does Katsuki get to decide everything on his own? Why doesn’t Todoroki get a say? And, more importantly, why is Katsuki so against the two of them becoming friends again?
Todoroki wants to ask him all of these things, but the encounter they just had basically proves there’s nothing he can say that will get through to that blond moron. Todoroki isn’t even entirely sure why he’s wasting so much time and effort on a single person when there are plenty of others vying to be his friend.
Then again, he does know, doesn’t he? Katsuki is the one thing from his past that has no negativity attached to it. The one perfect occurrence in a series of downward spirals. He’s kind of like a miracle. And, if Todoroki is being completely honest, he selfishly wants to cling onto that part of his past.
He can’t give up, then, can he? Maybe there’s still some hope. Katsuki did seem gentler in the equipment shed, and he was the one to reach out to Todoroki. He also agreed that he misses how things used to be between them: that must mean there's some hope. They’ll be forced to be in close quarters over the next week as they help remedial students. This could be the best chance—although he’s thought that before—to get Katsuki to like him again. Or at least not hate him.
Does he hate him? Todoroki used to be able to read him, but the current Katsuki is a closed book.
Todoroki flips onto his back with a sigh. He’s got too much to deal with. Schoolwork, modeling, and Katsuki. Oh, and all those clothes that got delivered earlier that he still needs to put away. There are boxes piled high outside the closet. (He might’ve ordered too much.) But this, at least, is one problem he can fix.
