I was gonna comment but then I realized that as a farmer’s daughter who purposefully bought a 100+ year old house , I’m very much an outlier and this article 100% does not apply to me or my local community.
#dad can wire up to code#and plumbed the entire house#and keeps up on code changes#there are a few things that he might want a professional for#but those are few and far between#and he makes us help anytime we ask if he can fix something#so we’ve learned quite a bit too#but farmers are a bit of a different breed when it comes to this stuff#you have to be a jack of all trades to make it work

Okay, someone please settle this argument I’m having with my dad:
Someone has hung a basket of their things (in this case face cloths and scrubbies) with those Command removable hook things (you use a double sided sticky thing and it gives a really strong hold) in the shared bathroom. Because you take longer and hotter than average showers, one of the hooks keeps falling off and so the basket falls down. Do you:
A) inform the person whose basket it is that it’s fallen down and the hook needs replacing, but other than removing the basket from the other hook so it doesn’t fall and damage the sink it’s over, do nothing else to interfere
B) inform the person that it’s fallen down and offer to rehang it if desired, but if you can’t remember how it was hung/don’t think you can do an appropriately satisfactory job at rehanging it, you don’t touch it and leave it to them
C) don’t say anything and rehang it incorrectly and wonkily, and then when the other person points out that you did it wrong and you should have just left it to them, kick off and insist that the other person is being ungrateful.
#hint: i think the answer should be A or B here.#I genuinely don’t know if I’m overreacting by being mad about this cause like…it’s happened three times now and he KEEPS hanging it wonky#and I think that’s partly why it keeps falling is because the weight distribution is wrong#why can’t he just fucking leave it to me?#also why does he have to spend an age in the fucking shower#he’s got much worse since we stopped living with mother and my brother#‘oh it’s cause we’ve got a much nicer shower than the one at my partners’#okay? doesn’t mean you have to spend more time in it.#- for context the shower we had in the house I grew up in didn’t have hot water. the fucked up the plumbing when they built it#and the only way the six different plumbers that we had put to look at it could see fixing it was to essentially rebuild the whole bathroom#and replumb the whole upstairs#which we just couldnt afford#so for my entire life from the age of 2 to 20 i lived in a house that only had a cold shower and it would regularly just…not work#like at least once every two months it would just stop pumping water. and all the plumbers would ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and go ‘yeah…we’ve got no way of#fixing this without ripping the whole thing out’#I then spent half a year showering in an outdoor hosepipe because I was living in a tent.#I am incredibly good at quick showers#I went ‘oh. hot shower. this is a luxury that I should be gratefully for. still gonna have quick showers though because let’s not waste hot#water’#my dad went ‘oh. hot shower. this is a luxury that shall not be wasted’ and proceeded to have the longest showers of his life.#tbf I think they’re only a little bit longer than the average person’s shower#but because I shower so quickly by comparison they seem looooong

Networking/Knowing A Guy: A Guide
This is the autism website. Now, as an extension of the power of love and friendship, there are few things more useful than Knowing A Guy. Knowing A Guy means you have a support network. Knowing a plumber, or a tax accountant, or just that one dude that's really fucking good at finding the information you need when you're really overwhelmed, can be the difference between being able to pay rent and having a fun party with friends to fix your shit.
How does one end up Knowing A Guy? It's a skill you can develop called Networking and it is one of the foundations of society. Unfortunately making those connections with people is fucking hard and nobody makes a tutorial for it. So, here you go:
The golden rule is you scratch my back and I scratch yours
It is necessary for survival to seek out useful people
Great news! Everyone is useful in some form or fashion - including you! When given the opportunity to learn about someone, do it! Extroversion does not come naturally to some people and that's okay. Just take whatever falls in your lap.
Types of usefulness: trade skills, connections of their own, personality you jive with, pleasant to talk to, niche interest in shared hobby, security - the list is pretty much endless. I know a guy that lives in the metro area - no job, no major hobbies, inoffensively annoying to me personally, kinda ignorant, not attractive to me, but you know what? He knows how the fuck to get around the city by foot. My rural-raised ass APPRECIATES the guide.
Remember important information: general personality, background, skillset, likes and dislikes. You can find this information by making smalltalk about their life. There is no such thing as pointless conversation. (Yes, even the annoying smalltalk)
The more people you know, the higher the likelihood that one of them will be useful in a given situation - or will know someone who is.
It is overwhelming. In a given clique/community/workspace/whatever, there is A Guy Who Knows The Other Guys. This Guy is a shortcut. Find them. They're often elderly, extroverted, a little bit annoying, a secretary or in some otherwise forward-facing position. Look for people that are gossipy/talk about other people a lot but not in negative ways. If they constantly talk shit, they'll talk shit about you too. They're still useful but be careful with the information you share
You do not have to like someone for them to be useful.
You do not have to like someone for them to be useful.*
If you have low self esteem, you're going to feel like you're using people. You're not. That's the devil talking. People like feeling valued and the connections you are making are the threads holding community together. Recognize people for their talents. It's only a problem when you're taking advantage of people
So: don't feel scummy about it. You're an animal. You have to claw out your right to survive and people will respect you more for it.
Luckily mutualism is the name of the game in the animal kingdom. Offer something back. The foundation of a Know A Guy relationship is Mutual Benefit
Sometimes that Mutual Benefit is just spreading news of the The Guy far and wide. My plumber friend is my actual friend and I love her to death, but I'm maintaining our backscratch relationship by pimping out her plumbing business to anyone that'll listen
Food is a good Mutual Benefit. People across cultures for all of human history have bonded over food. I have good success asking people for a favor and then offering to buy them lunch in return **
General compensation is also good. Offer a service in return and always do your best to offer financial compensation as appropriate. Having your plumber friend take a look at your drain: doable with a case of beer. Having your plumber friend redo the pipes in your entire house? You need to pay for that.
Being transactional is not necessarily a bad thing. I would advise against keeping an itemized list of things owed, but fish don't seek out cleaner shrimp just because they enjoy their company. Everyone gets something
Unfortunately being extroverted and generally personable is a huge benefit here, but that's the value of the Guy That Knows A Guy. There's someone out there that has consolidated All The Guys so you don't have to be the local expert. Always remember nobody can do everything and you don't need to master every skill
* This is the foundation of a functioning community. I have many acquaintances that I find incredibly annoying. They include doctors, welders, artists, social workers, lawyers, construction crew and random fuckers at the grocery store. I do not hang out with them. I do not have to in order to maintain a civil Know A Guy relationship. I can drop them useful tidbits and fuck right off so I don't have to spend any more time than necessary with them
** People may assume romantic intent. Be prepared for that. I generally denote that it's a friendly/work lunch by calling them bro at some point if they're my age. Otherwise my general demeanor is sufficient to show that I do this with everyone

Basically, it’s discovered that to help stabilize Danielle, aka Ellie, it’d be best to have her be smaller. She refused to be turned into a kid by Frostbite/her own power ability, when Danny remembered the shrink ray his parents made. The side effect is that they’re kind of stuck as humans when they’re that small—they can use some ghost powers, but basically, it’s a weird side effect of the shrink ray. That’s canon, by the fucking way, lmao
Anyways, so Ellie agrees, and Danny will shrink himself with the ray to her size to help her out when needed/when she wants company her size, with Jazz, Sam, and Tucker occasionally helping out. Sam buys one of those really ornate Victorian dollhouses, with wooden everything, and Danny does some… renovations… so that it no longer opens and is a proper house. There’s still some oddities because it’s a dollhouse originally, but it was easier and faster to give her a home. One of the first additions was a water/wastewater system, followed like two hours later by an electrical system. Since it was so small, Danny was able to do it fairly quickly in his big size, occasionally going small and using the small window for using his powers to double check on things.
The water system had to be refilled every week, unless hooked up to a plumbing system in a house, which Danny made some outlets for in Jazz’s room—it was easier and had significantly less questions/didn’t stand out as much if placed in Jazz’s room. They usually did it every three days, though, as the plug-in process was still a bit… hinky. The tanks for holding the water were in the ‘basement’, which was mostly inaccessible from the inside of the dollhouse but basically looked like a big stand the dollhouse stayed on. Like someone ripped a full house out of the ground WITH the basement attached. There was a small access hallway down some stairs in the house for the clean water system, though.
The electric system was fairly simple, as it didn’t cost much energy to light a dollhouse and heat/cool water. There was an AC unit, Ellie’s request, but it hardly was used and was fairly efficient just due to pure size. It was fueled by ecto batteries, which Danny made sure had a few rechargability options—just because it was efficient energy didn’t mean it didn’t ever need recharging. There was a very small ecto filter, but due to its relative small size, was easy to clean and was fairly stable, so they had a whole closet of them just chilling out, both filled and empty. The battery itself could be charged by ecto sources, Danny’s own blood, or ambient ectoplasm gained by using something that looked like a solar panel and a satellite dish had a child that the batter could be placed in. The hookup also allowed for like… normal D cell batteries.
They would buy dollhouse furniture, and occasionally just buy the big version then shrink it down. Ellie had a huge old house to herself, basically, might as well go ham. And she had a fun time with the designer doll clothes Sam liked to get, although the cheap doll clothes from the store were also fun. Best option was just buying normal clothes and shrinking them, but using things that were already small or just making stuff using normal sized objects was fun.
At some point, though, the Fenton siblings decide to go on a trip. Ellie begs to be taken along, and Jazz agrees—there’s a doll showcase in Gotham, and Jazz wanted to see if anything caught Ellie’s interest. Danny, having a room in the dollhouse himself, also went along. Might as well make it a sibling’s trip, right?
Ellie can be full size for small chunks of time, which they did while exploring the expo. They found some cool things to add, and some doll clothes Ellie was far too interested in trying on, as well as some to force on Danny later. He sighed, but like—that’s his little cousin-sister, he’d put up with it. After all, he learned how to plumb an entire (miniature) house in two days when she refused to move in until it had a fully functional bathroom, so.
Anyways!
They have a fun time, and sure, lugging the relatively giant dollhouse was a PAIN, but it was Ellie’s home, and some stabilizing tech made it relatively safe to move without risking everything freaking breaking. They load everything in again, and the dollhouse is now restocked with clothes, tiny furniture, and a lot of shrunken supplies—some foods are just hard to work with full size, and are easier to shrink, okay? Also soap, paper goods, pencils and pens, books, etc. Jazz loads the thing into her car, and Danny offers to stay with Ellie in the dollhouse—so Jazz gets them in, and shrinks them down, holding onto the shrink ray in the meantime.
All is going relatively well in Gotham traffic until there’s a rogue attack.
Go figure.
Jazz ends up unconscious, and Danny and Ellie can’t do anything before the rogue is taken care of and a paramedic team comes up. They hide back in the dollhouse, listening as the medics say she seems to be okay, just unconscious. A relief, but now they’re taking Jazz away. Fenton luck states she’s one of the few actually injured. The Bat Brigade comes by, and Batman notices that there’s a wallet for one Danny Fenton. Red Robin confirms that Jazz was likely here with at least two other people, based on the ticket stubs for the expo. However, there is a strange lack of social media presence, Danny doesn’t have a photo ID, and there’s no way of knowing for SURE that it was just Danny with her, if it was just two other people, or if Danny was in the car with her. Still, as they can’t find him but DO have his sister and his wallet, they assume he might be missing, possibly kidnapped.
The Gotham PD of course take in the car, although it’s pretty trashed. Knowing well and good that the dollhouse and such things are actually quite expensive, Commissioner Gordon mentions that it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Batman to maybe hold onto the Fenton’s things that *aren’t* related to the investigation.
Batman just takes everything. Including a rather peculiar looking gun that seems to have sustained some damage during the attack and car crash.
Gordon sighs. Figures.
So, Danny and Ellie end up in Wayne Manor. Most of the things end up in the Batcave, but Alfred insists that they place the doll things upstairs in the manor proper—the cave isn’t *that* damp, but doll things are small and delicate. So, upstairs they go.
At first, it’s fine. Danny and Ellie are fine in the dollhouse, and it’ll be at least a week before any of the systems NEED to be worked with.
Then Ellie ends up with a massive migraine. She gets them, on occasion, a sort of growing pain. Usually, they just shrink some medicine for her as she needs it, because she’s like—twelve. While they did have some medicine that had been pre-shrunk, when they were stocking up in Gotham, it turns out pain medicine was more expensive there. Not by much, but they figured—they’ll just stock up in Amity Park, they’ll be there in two days.
Haha. Nope.
So, Danny finally has to venture out. He lucks into finding the first aid kit—why there was one in the main living room, he’s not sure—and is currently working on trying to get open the blister packet of an ibuprofen when Alfred finds him.
Alfred stares at this tiny boy with a tiny make-shift knife trying to get into… over the counter pain medication.
Danny stares at this butler guy who had very gently cleaned the outside and noted the strange fact that the dollhouse did not open.
Danny waves at Alfred.
Alfred waves a tiny finger back.
“Hello,” Alfred says softly, which is fantastic because loud noises could get painful—part of the reason for Ellie’s headache was an argument between Tim and Damian. “How do you do?”
Danny hesitates, before he makes an exaggerated so-so gesture.
“You understand me?”
Danny nods—it’s rare for people to understand what he’s saying when he’s 5 inches tall.
“How wonderful,” Alfred smiles. “And how can I help our young guest tonight?”
Danny gestures to the blister packet.
“Pain medication? Isn’t that a little bit large for you.”
The teen thinks for a second on how to communicate. He points to the pill, then makes a slight show of pretending to grind something, like a mortar and pestle.
Thankfully, Alfred got the idea. “Would it be easier if I ground it up for you?”
Danny takes a moment to think before accepting with an enthusiastic nod.
“Very well,” Alfred says, taking the blister packet in one hand. He then hold his other out, palm up, like a platform. “Would you like to come with me?”
Danny ‘his survival instincts died when he did’ Fenton gets into Alfred’s hand.
Alfred grinds up the pill into a fine powder. Danny hands him a tiny bottle—still large in Danny’s hands, as it was not a shrunk bottle—that he had tied around his waist. Alfred fills it, and hands it back.
“I assume you came from the tiny house we have in our living room?”
Danny again nods. Alfred takes him there, setting him down outside the front door. Danny bows, and sure it’s Japanese as hell, and he’s white as all get out, but it’s a generally understood gesture of thanks. He hopes.
Alfred understands it just fine. “I bid you goodnight, then. Perhaps we will talk more, when you are feeling better?”
Danny hesitates, again, but he nods. Alfred had been nice enough, so far.
Danny heads in, quickly measuring out the medicine—shrunk pressure plates and scales and weights made what it was measuring relative—to him the weights on the hand balance scale felt the same weight. Ellie got her medicine, and they both went back to sleep.
He told her in the morning what happened. Ellie was strangely gung-ho about meeting this butler guy, and so—when no one else was around—, she and Danny went onto the tiny balcony as Alfred came in to dust.
“Oh my,” he said. “There’s two of you, now. Should I expect more?”
Both of them did an exaggerated ‘no’ dance.
“Very well, I don’t believe I’ve introduced myself. I’m Alfred Pennyworth, the family butler. Welcome to Wayne Manor.”

Halour, I'm kinda curious... What crimes have Cale done, exactly? I see a number of "crime list" videos about him but the wiki don't really confirm anything💀
— 🌄
...The Time Has Come. 😌
I have long promised this list, so perfect timing! Thank you very much for this question! Allow me to introduce you to:
Cale Henituse's Crime List
(Just for the fun of it, I tried to give a different example for every single one of these. Some events repeat, but not the crimes!)
1) Accessibility of Records for Tax Department
Cale looted significant amounts of money from the Magic Tower and many other places, without leaving any legal trace.
2) Affray
Multiple occasions, like pretty much everything that happened in the Molden Kingdom.
3) Aggravated Assault
Cale rarely gets physically involved in a fight, but I think suddenly strangling Prince Adin qualifies.
4) Aggravated Burglary
Every single time "Real Arm" is in business.
5) Allowing Dog or Cat To Be a Nuisance
How else would you call encouraging your animal shape-shifting kids to be involved in criminal activity? Also Fluffy the Puppy was under Cale's command even if he technically belonged to Princess Jopis, I say it totally counts.
6) Ammunition – Possessing, Acquiring or Carrying
Cale intentionally pocketed magic bombs from the Plaza Terror Incident and used them later on.
7) Animal Cruelty
...Does Cale subjecting On to his "nice act" in front of Litana counts? Oh it definitely counts. That poor child.
8) Armed Robbery
That time Cale & co. robbed the Mercenary Guilds in Leeb-An City, for instance.
9) Arson
Setting the Wind Island on fire.
10) Assaulting or Resisting Police
That time Cale & co. went to Sez Kingdom. Pretty sure the knights trying to stop them from kidnapping the king counts as "resisting law enforcement".
11) Being Disguised With Unlawful Intent
Priest Cale in a nutshell.
12) Blackmail
That time Cale talked to Antonio Gyerre.
13) Breaking and Entering
Cale coming to the Sekka Estate.
14) Careless Driving
Debatable since a fantasy world doesn't own cars – but. I count Cale breaking through walls of a maze on a mother-effing Stone Imugi as "irresponsible driving". Just think of what kind of example you're setting for the kids, Cale!
15) Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public
Cale has Raon following him everywhere, so.....?
16) Carrying Out Plumbing Work Without License or Registration
Cale has an underground villa in the Forest of Darkness. I'm pretty sure whatever construction work they did there would count as illegal.
17) Carrying Out Work Without a Building Permit
Cale had Dragons teleport an entire castle into the Forest of Darkness. Yet again, involves a building with no legal paperwork.
18) Causing Injury Intentionally
Obviously. Like making fiery lightning bolt strike in the middle of an Elf Village attack. Or hitting a radish with a rock.
19) Collecting or Making Documents Likely to Facilitate Terrorist Acts
Everything involving Knight Rex after he became a terrorist.
20) Conspiracy
Cale and Alberu talking about anything.
21) Control of Body Armor
After reading it up, I decided that mana disruption device ABSOLUTELY falls into this category.
22) Control and Use of Dangerous Articles
Cale adopting pretty much everyone on his team.
23) Corrupting Benefits Received By Commonwealth Public Official
Cale using Alberu's golden plaque to trap the White Star with Embrace. I mean, if being infected with that clown doesn't count as corruption, I don't know what does.
24) Cultivation of Narcotic Plants
Cale letting Hong eat plants in the Forest of Darkness. It IS, in his own words, his own backyard.
25) Dangerous Non-Guard Dog Attacks or Bites a Person or Animal with Person in Control
Cale letting Choi Han beat up Adin. ...Well, Choi Han COULD be counted as a Guard Dog, but. They never formalized the paperwork? I say it counts since Choi Han isn't legally registered!
26) Dealing With Property Suspected of Being Proceeds of Crime
Cale renting a house from Odeus Flynn.
27) Dealing With Property Which Subsequently Becomes an Instrument of Crime
Cale buying the Magic Tower before he proceeds to kidnap Mueller.
28) Delaying the Entry of Police
Cale not letting the law enforcement know about the Plaza Terror Incident beforehand. Also, activating the mana disruption device, knowing it would hinder their efforts to stop terrorism. ...Yes Cale & co. prevented said terrorism better on their own but it still counts.
29) Deliberately Omitting Information
Cale making an Vow of Death to Choi Han claiming that he can't tell him anything.
30) Destroying, Damaging and/or Interfering with Any Works of a Water Corporation
Setting the Lake of God's Tears on fire.
31) Destroying or Damaging Property
Cale destroying houses in the Gyerre territory.
32) Destruction of Evidence
Cale and Raon blowing up Hais Island 5 to cover up Ron's infiltration.
33) Directing the Activities of a Terrorist Organization
Cale's entire career in a nutshell, really.
34) Discharge Missile to Endanger Person or Property
Cale blowing up the whirlpools in the Ubarr territory.
35) Dishonestly Cause a Loss
Cale tricking the White Star into the abandoned underground city.
36) Disturbing Religious Worship
Cale messing with the Sun God's Church for being mean to Mary.
37) Driving an Unregistered Vehicle
Cale & co. using Mary's bone Dragon.
38) Drunkards Behaving in Riotous or Disorderly Manner
Cale pretending to be drunk in the Gyerre territory.
39) Endangering Safety of Aircraft
Cale letting his allies abroad an airship during the Jungle battle.
40) Entering a Place Without Authority or Lawful Excuse
Cale rescuing Raon.
41) Extortion With Threats to Destroy Property
Cale threatening the slave traffickers in the Gyerre territory.
42) Failure to Notify the Authorities of Criminal Activity
Cale doesn't notify Alberu of crap, unless it's to make him clean-up the aftermath.
43) Failure to Register a Pet
Pretty sure Cale registered exactly none of his allies. ...Except maybe the Tiger Tribe that one time they moved into Harris Village with Deruth's permission. Everyone else? Not a chance.
44) Falsifying or Concealing Identity
Cale acting as Naru von Ejellan in Endable Kingdom.
45) Forgery of Documents
Cale and Taylor faking an ancient document to fool the White Star.
46) Fraud
Cale promising Plavin Singten benefits for siding with the new Sun Church.
47) Getting Funds To, From, or For a Terrorist Organization
Cale sponsoring his allies, like giving Rosalyn magic stones.
48) Going Equipped for Stealing
Cale making Real Arm uniform.
49) Handling Stolen Goods
Cale using Divine Items.
50) Identity Theft
Cale introducing himself as Bob.
51) Indecent Assault
Cale telling Choi Han to strip that one time. (Yes, it actually happened. ...Not the way shippers wished for, obviously.)
52) Inducement to Be Appointed Liquidator
Cale helping Princess Jopis overthrow her sister on the condition of benefits for the Roan Kingdom.
53) Insider Trading
Cale selling Alberu dead mana from a Dragon.
54) Intentionally or Recklessly Causing a Bushfire
Cale setting that bush monster on fire in Xiaolen.
55) Introduction of a Drug of Dependence Into the Body of Another Person
Cale letting Rosalyn drink coffee on Earth 3.
56) Kidnapping
Cale & co. capturing Venion Stan.
57) Leaving Children Without Supervision
Cale letting the kids look for Mueller.
58) Lighting of Fires in the Open Air
Cale using Fire of Destruction against Sky Attribute.
59) Loitering Near Schools
Cale & the kittens in the Sez Kingdom.
60) Loitering With Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
Cale letting Clopeh Sekka spot him that first time.
61) Manslaughter
Cale letting Choi Han, Rosalyn and Lock go and destroy the Archduke's Estate.
62) Membership of a Terrorist Organization
Cale making up Real Arm.
63) Murder
Cale killing the White Star.
64) Negligent Manslaughter

steddie falls into porn cliches on accident
Steve was in the middle of washing the conditioner out of his hair, loving the silky smooth feeling and watching the water turn from cloudy to clear as it was all rinsed out. He was ready to start washing his body in earnest now, when he heard the doorbell ring.
For a second, he was ready to just ignore it, thinking it might be a delivery or someone trying to solicit. They could leave whatever they had on the doorstep or keep moving. Then the bell rang a second time and Steve remembered that he was in fact supposed to answer it.
Robin had hired a plumber to fix their sink. She told him they'd be coming between 8 am to noon. Steve had gotten in the shower exactly at eight, thinking surely he had enough time in that window. What kind of plumber showed up this promptly!?
Steve turned the shower off and grabbed the first robe off the hook. It wasn't his, he knew that. But in his defense, Robin wasn't home and he liked to air dry when he could. She could get mad at him later for snagging hers. He tied it hastily, rushing to the door before the plumber left.
-------------------
Eddie waited for the door to be answered, checking his watch while he did. Today was his only appointment, so he thought he was doing well by showing up on the early end of the window. He was ready to spout the rehearsed script when the door opened. Good morning, Munson and Son Plumbing. You got a problem with your drain pipe? Well I'm here to fix it. Fun fact, I'm a guitarist, so I'm pretty good with my hands. Anyone you know looking for lessons?
His uncle didn't always like him plugging his side gig, but putting up posters around neighborhoods wasn't quite as successful as actual face time. Then the door fully opened and he got an entire eyeful. A dripping wet god of a man, his modesty just barely preserved in a bath robe. It did nothing to hide his thick, hairy thighs or impressive chest.
"Hi I'm here to handle your pipe!", Eddie blurted out. "I'm mean I'm good with my hands! P...plumbing! I'm the plumber, I'm here for your plumbing."
"Oh, y-yeah, we've been expecting you", Steve tried to close the top of his robe more and that made Eddie self conscious about staring.
Steve introduced himself and Eddie did the same as he was let into the house, somehow not putting his foot in his mouth as he did. Steve took him to the problem sink and Eddie got to work while Steve excused himself.
He went into his room, looking for something presentable only to find it was mostly his stuff for the club. Definitely not appropriate for a plumber visit. Then he remembered why. He had started a load of laundry last night. And when he woke up this morning, putting it in the dryer so it'd be ready once he was done with his shower.
He went to the laundry room to do just that, emptying the contents of the dryer into his hamper, bending over to do so. Once he was done, he'd be able to put together an outfit that didn't make him look like a desperate housewife.
Eddie had just finished tangling with the pipe. It didn't take as long as he had expected but his shirt was drenched now. He listened out for Steve, hoping he was nearby so that he didn't have to call for him, only to hear something...odd.
He followed the sound until he came to an open door and realized what the sounds were - little grunts of effort. Eddie bit his lip, letting logic and reason work themselves out. Steve knew he had someone in the house and the door was wide open so he couldn't be-
Eddie walked through the door and there was Steve, bent over, top half in the dryer, bottom half sticking out. His robe had began to hitch up, revealing just the bottom of that perfect ass.
"Holy shit", Eddie squeaked out.
"Hey? Plumber guy? I know this is awkward but would you mind helping me out? My robe got caught on something and I can't-I can't free myself."
"Um, okay? So should I just...should I just?", Eddie got behind Steve, hands fumbling. Should he adjust the robe or would that be rude?
"Just grab me and pull", Steve said, wriggling around more and stopping when he heard a rip.
"Yeah, okay, yeah I'll just", Eddie grabbed Steve's hips and pulled, to no avail.
"Gonna have to do it a bit harder than that", Steve said. "Here I'll, I'll try and push too."
Eddie swallowed as he pulled again, Steve's hips coming flush with his own and eliciting a gasp from the other man.
"A...again."
Eddie pulled again, harder this time. He had kind of been working with a half chub. The kind Steve had to feel right between his cheeks every time Eddie pulled on him.
Steve gasped with each time their hips came together and it was getting hard to pretend his asshole didn't flutter with each movement.
"Fuck, just fuck me already", Steve whined.
Eddie wasted no time in dropping his pants and rubbing his cock against Steve's ass, precum dripping and Steve still wet from the shower. The tip slipped in with ease and then the rest of him and Steve's hips wouldn't stay still and then he was fucking him oh shit he was fucking him he was fucking a client while on the clock.
Steve's voice sounded goddamn ethereal, echoing inside the tub of the dryer. He was giving as good as he got, pushing back with each thrust and Eddie got to watch his dotted cheeks jiggle with each impact.
Eddie pushed the robe up more, licking his lips as he was rewarded with the sluttiest back arch that he'd ever seen. He wasn't going to last and this Steve guy wasn't either. Eddie came first, one hand on Steve's hip and the other bracing itself on the dryer so that he didn't fall over. Steve's cock spilled into the floor, a mess to be dealt with later.
"Fuck...you really are good at handling pipes", Steve laughed through his panting.
When Eddie left that day, he didn't get Steve's number. But a week later their company got a call about a clogged toilet and specifically requested that Eddie come over, that they only trusted his expertise. This time, Eddie wouldn't let it slip through his fingers. And this time when Steve greeted him in a half open robe, it was on purpose.

Someone else flirts with you…
includes: Michael Myers, Pinhead, Brahms Heelshire, Art the Clown, Sun and Moon (fnaf), Marta (Outlast 2)
Michael
Taking Michael to a Halloween party seemed like a good idea at first, it was one of the only places his “costume” doesn’t appear out of place. It was a good night, for the most part; you got to introduce Michael to your friends, explaining (depending on how well you know them) that Michael was mute/not speaking as part of his “costume”, and of course Michael recognised all of your friends from what you’d already told him of them. He stuck by your side - a shadow - for the duration of the night, dark gaze fixed on you as you laughed with your friends, completely at ease despite the presence of the intimidating shape. That was, until someone stupid approached you and your friends at the bar, and tried to hit on you. It didn’t matter the nature of the flirtation, whether it was crude or polite, that person’s fate was sealed. Michael’s head very slowly turned to them, then back to you, and you gave Michael a look that he understood well. You were giving him the go-head, but within reason. With that, Michael left the party one minute before the rest of you and your friends did, so that he could wait outside for the fucker to follow you out. When the person did, Michael was there.
The next morning, there was a particularly disturbing article on the frontpage of every local newspaper pertaining to a gruesome murder of some “poor soul” found disembowelled in an alleyway behind the bar. Most notably, missing a tongue. Michael ensured that person wouldn’t flirt with you again, even dead.
Pinhead
The notion of someone “always being with you” is usually meant in some spiritual/emotional sense to reassure, but in Pinhead’s mind that’s an entirely literal sentiment and he proves it to you regularly. There you were, getting groceries, minding your own business when you were approached by someone. Before they had even uttered a word, a sharp wind blew from a portal that had materialised between you and the person, chains flying from it and grabbing them by their limbs, dragging them into a circle of Hell with a scream that was cut-off by the portal suddenly closing and disappearing entirely. You sigh heavily and continue your shopping, but when you get home? You’ve got questions.
“Someone tried talking to me today.” You mused thoughtfully as you and Pinhead tidied away the groceries into your kitchen, speaking in a tone that made it obvious you knew what he’d done.
“They did.” Pinhead didn’t even bother to hide it.
“Yeah, and they didn’t even get a word out before they were snatched from this dimension by some familiar-looking chains.” You turned to raise an eyebrow up at Pinhead, crossing your arms over your chest accusingly.
“Perhaps they did not need to speak. Perhaps…the nature of their thoughts spoke loud enough.” Pinhead answered as he looked down at you, holding your gaze deliberately until you scoffed.
Nobody even needs to flirt with you for Pinhead to send them packing. To Hell.
Brahms
You had a job persuading Brahms that you need to call a professional out to fix the plumbing in the old-fashioned mansion you now share with him. When he’d insisted he could try and fix it himself, you gave him a look that had him hanging his head at his towering height. Not taking kindly to strangers, you promised Brahms you would deal with the plumber while Brahms stayed behind the walls, following through the house to make sure he was there if anything went awry. And awry it went.
Unfortunately, Brahms hiding in the walls and the mansion being otherwise silent caused the plumber to assume you lived alone and were, therefore, single. At the first insinuation of that, Brahms was close to punching a fist through the wall, but you were quick to correct the plumber and assure that your boyfriend would be home “any minute”. You had hoped that would be enough, but alas. The second the plumber flirted with you outright, the walls began to shake with the heavy thuds of Brahms’ footsteps, and you let your head fall to your hand with a sigh.
“You should’ve taken the hint.” You told the plumber, and by the time you lifted your head, Brahms was filling the doorway, breathing heavily.
He waited there for you. Waited until you walked up to him, at which point he stepped aside, allowing you to pass so that you were safely out of the room. And while you heard the screams of the damned, you started preparing dinner.
Art
Art has never cared about being inconspicuous, so anytime you suggest getting takeout in the early hours of the morning, Art is always happy to accompany you, no matter who sees him. He’ll get the bus with you, drive you places, walk the streets. It gives you the confidence to go out in just your pyjamas when you’re walking next to your deranged-and-immortal clown boyfriend, because the attention is never on you, and you prefer it that way.
So when you go to get pizza one night and the guy at the front desk offers you more than an extra topping, you’re looking over your shoulder at Art - who had been standing at the display windows, breathing on them and drawing penises onto the condensation on the glass. Art turns around and pretends to laugh very enthusiastically, clapping his hands in silent glee as he skips over to the front desk. On his way over to you, Art flicks your nose endearingly, and you grab the pizza boxes to take them outside. Leaning against the building and looking up at the stars, you wait for all of thirty seconds with a slice of pizza hanging from your mouth, before Art joins you. Deliberately jumps through the door to startle you, of course, and giving you a thumbs up. Looking back through the display windows, you can see the decapitated staff member’s head pressed against the penis drawings on the glass. Suck on that, Art signs.
Sun and Moon
Unbelievably, even in the Pizzaplex while doing your job, you are not safe from being flirted with by unwanted presences. Being one of the few hired to assist the animatronics with caring for the children, you are assigned to the daycare to help the kids warm to Sun and Moon - because they’re a pretty big animatronic and some of the younger children are instinctively frightened - and at the end of the day, parents collecting their children often feel more comfortable thanking you than they do the animatronics, for looking after the children. One said parent took thanking you a little too far, and when you politely rejected their flirtations, they didn’t take that for an answer. You could see Sun across the daycare, entertaining the last of the children waiting for their parents to collect them, but he stilled on hearing that parent. Bending his knees, Sun launched himself into the air, and in the time it took him to stand behind you, Moon had taken over.
“A parent should know better than to be so naughty, you are not setting a good example! It would be a shame if you said nighty-night and never opened your eyes again, but these things do happen…” Moon growled lowly above your head, towering over you from behind.
“A-Are you threatening me?” The parent stuttered with wide eyes.
“Bad children must be punished. Bad grownups must be…” Moon giggled mechanically to himself, gesturing for the parent to skedaddle, which they abruptly did.
After closing time, Sun and Moon spent the entire night arguing with each other about whether it would be morally wrong to hunt and kill that parent for flirting with you and consequently leaving the child fatherless. In the end, Sun rationalised that was not a good plan, and Moon sulked.
Marta
It’s pretty rare you’d encounter a scenario where anyone has the opportunity to flirt with you in front of Marta, and even rarer an opportunity that Marta acknowledge it. Among feminine presences, compliments to you are praises to God’s gift, as far as Marta is concerned, so she takes no issue with those unless they make you uncomfortable enough for her to notice. But, if a remotely masculine person says anything other than pure words with innocent intention? Not even to you, but in front of you?
“God give me voice, God guide my hand…” Marta raises her axe and brings it down with unseemly might, straight into the groin of whoever said something she didn’t like, and you’re quick to cover your eyes.
“Marta! It was only a compliment to my dress!” You tried to defend the poor soul who had already been taken from this life.
“Speak with a tongue of sin in the presence of the righteous one; the dress that hides your modesty, that protects you from foul seed…” Marta continued to ramble as she lifted her free hand, tilting your head up by your chin to leave a kiss on your brow.

"At the University of Maine, one of the world’s largest 3D printers is using sawdust from the state’s lumber industry to 3D print cozy wooden cabins.
It’s part of a move towards making 3D printing faster and more sustainable in a state where the housing shortage that has metastasized in most states around the country is dire.
It’s thought that 80,000 new homes will be needed over the next 5 years to keep pace with demand, and though it takes years for building codes to be changed, the technicians at the Advanced Structures & Composites Center (ASCC) at the Univ. of Maine hope their new toy can help address this need.
Guinness World Records certified the machine at ASCC as the world’s largest prototype polymer 3D printer, capable of creating a 600 square foot house 96 feet in length, 36 feet in width, and 18 feet tall entirely out of bio-based material at a rate of 500 pounds per hour.
In 2022, it could print the walls, floors, and roof of the house in just 96 hours, but the ACSS has been refining the design with the hope of doubling the printing speed and getting it down to a 48-hour timeline.
“When they’re doing concrete, they’re only printing the walls,” Habib Dagher, the executive director of ACSS told CNN. “The approach we’ve taken is quite different from what you’ve seen, and you’ve been reading about for years.”
Indeed, GNN has reported on a fair number of 3D printing projects, but most if not all involve printing only the walls. One fantastical exception is an Italian firm that is 3D-printing domed, beehive-like, modular concept homes inspired by the Great Enclosure in Zimbabwe.
STAND-OUT 3D-PRINTING PROJECTS:
First 2-Story Home to be 3D Printed in the U.S. Reaches for the Sky in Texas
The World’s Largest 3D Printed Building is a Horse Barn That Can Endure Florida Hurricanes
This 23-Year-Old Founder is 3D Printing Schools in Madagascar Aiming to be a ‘Stepping Stone’ for the Community
A Startup Is Using Recycled Plastic to 3D Print Tiny $25,000 Prefabricated Homes in LA
The ASCC is calling the house design the BioHome3D, and says it’s rare people who tour the concept version don’t ask when they “can have one up?”
The interior gives the feel of a modern Scandinavian wooden cabin, making it fit well with the Maine aesthetic. The ASCC is now doing work on how to incorporate conduits for wiring and plumbing “exactly where an architect would want them,” says Dagher.

So, in Busman’s Homeymoon, Lord Peter buys Harriet Vane a mink cloak worth 950 pounds (according to the Dowager Duchess’ journal entry), but he buys Tallboys for “only” 650 pounds.
Even bearing in mind that real estate really did used to be cheaper, do you understand how that is possible? Or how to find out more about relative purchasing power? I used an online calculator website which gave me some figures, but it still seems insane that one could buy an entire Elizabethan farmhouse for 2/3 the price of a garment! Very curious to learn from others who understand this better than I do.
Ah, I see my esteemed colleague @oldshrewsburyian has also had some interesting thoughts on this, so I'll link that here as well before I begin.
So, it's a legitmate question, and there's no catch-all simple answer (in the gotcha sense of 'why didn't i know that bit of cultural Truth'), but there are mitigating factors that take it from a ridiculous price comparison, to merely outlandish. Even taking into account that the coat is quoted in guineas, not pounds, and that PW says the bank valued Talboys at £800 via a mortgage (the paid price was a discount, for paying in cash quickly, which is Plot Relevant), it gets us to roughly the same place, value-wise. Or shall we say PRICE-wise, rather than value, as I'll get into below. There's several factors at play here - they mainly relate to class, and spending power:
-The house is Not That Great, in terms of the kind of property that PW would usually be buying. I mean it is still a large-ish house, big enough to have 2 adults and small children in, but it's not what would be on his radar normally. The only reason they know about it, it that it's near a place where HARRIET grew up as a child. It's not getting any high marks in particular Beauty, Convenience, or Quality - the main reason HV's drawn to it is sentiment, rather than anything else. They both know that they will have to significantly add to it, and alter it, in order for it to be a comfortable home. That would usually be out-of-budget for someone in Harriet's position, who would expect to buy something that meets her needs 'as-is'. Most people looking at buying that house would be Harriets not Peters, so it might be a tough sell.
-The house has no power, and limited plumbing: There's dark references to DRAINS by the dowager duchess, it's entirely possible that this house has no modern plumbing at all - they make the comparison that the huge palace the Wimseys grew up in wasn't plumbed until recently, but then again they do have about 800 servants, whereas Talboys is just a regular house: they will have Bunter alone (at first), with an assist from Mrs Ruddle. There's mention of "a cistern" with some basic valves, but the scullery is mentioned as having a copper, from which hot water is "scooped into a large bath-can" - a copper being, simply, a large metal basin over a fire, in effect. No running hot water, maybe no flushable loos - it's a factor. They also talk specifially about having to electrify Talboys themselves - it's candles and lamps until then. It's fancy camping. By the mid-1930s, a lot of middle-class buyers would expect a little more convenience in both water and wiring, unless they had significant support staff, which Talboys would not be expected to house.
-There's probably no farm! It's a farm house - not a wider land purchase. People like PW's brother the Duke are wealthy primarily because they own land, not because of the big palace they have (which eats money, rather than generates it). The land is what gives them spending power, because other people are paying them rent to live on it, farm on it, or both. PW's own personal 'younger sibling' wealth is also mentioned somewhere to be primarily in real estate (assumed to be in London) - sad to say: he's a landlord, and that's why he's rich. Talboys, on the other hand, as a purchase, would not, in almost any way, be expected to generate revenue through either farming, agriculture, or charging rent. Until they invent house flipping in 80 years, or until the motorway goes through in 40 years, there's not much expectation that Talboys would increase all that much in value.
-Lastly, there's a massive disparity in what The Market Will Bear when we compare a basic residence vs a luxury item (like a mink coat) in the mid-1930s. This is not particular to that time, though. Like any first-year economics student will tell you, the price of something is not it's intrinsic value, it's what someone is WILLING to pay for it. If someone is willing to pay such a price, that's the price it will be. So, we're not comapring Objects, we're comparing Buyers: the the main purchasers of a slightly run-down farmhouse located nowhere special are Harriets, and main purchasers of mink coats are Peters. Talboys is priced for Harriets. The mink coat is priced for Peters.
Compare for example, a contemporary parallel: the Hermes Birkin bag. It's a leather handbag with a starting retail price of about USD 11,400. Just for the bag. Then, you have fancier versions of the fancy bag, eg wikipedia tells me one version sold at auction for USD 380,000 in Hong Kong in 2017. Now, the Harriets of today are not buying a Hermes Birkin handbag, but they are probably trying to buy slightly run-down houses outside urban centers for (one hopes) slightly less than 380k. The Wimseys of the worlds are clearly buying Birkin bags. In that way, it's actually pretty easy to get to a place where Person A might buy a single luxury item for X pounds, and Person B might buy a whole residence for X pounds, and neither feel like they'd done something insane. The key here is in a Wimsey/Vane marriage, they run up against this concept immediately, and repeatedly.
There's a good reason the first epistolary section of the novel is almost entirely taken up with money chat - the ring, the purchase of shirts from Burlington Arcade, the marriage settlement, the gift from the bride to the groom, the mink coat, the bitchy exchange between Helen and Harriet about HV being allowed "six free copies of her book" to distribute. These people come from 2 fundamentally different experiences of the world. They might have gotten engaged using the word 'Magistra', specifically to emphasise their fundamental equality (in the context of learning and the mind, to begin with), but it can't be denied: there's gaps that need to be bridged. They both know parts of their married life will be spent in attempting to do that, hopefully to their mutual satisfaction. Mention of a mink coat for 950 guineas is a nice, neat shorthand for illustrating what's still at play between them here.
#dorothy l sayers#and this isn't even getting into the delicious things like#a) helen being considered unspeakably vulgar by calling attention to the price of HV's ring but#b) peter being considered friendly and polite by openly stating what he paid for talboys#like these are some delicate class rules at play here! when to mention money and when NOT to mention money! context matters!#here's so much going on - this is (I feel) what DLS means when she says she couldn't simply marry them off#they'd have to really engage with what that would mean#and then she wrote 2 whole novels about it#replies#fromthedeskofcripslock
