You’ve been on my mind lately. I think it started when i went to the club with ivan. he sat next to me and asked me how ive been, and put his arm around me and just showed mad love "yo im really glad you're here, we havent chilled in a minute". he said. Sybyr played earlier today and it hit. I think tonight is the night i finally get the chance to grieve you.
Music was our bond since the moment we met. “Je suis le noir le plus blanc que tu vas rencontrer”. When i found out you listened to metal in grade 10. Shameless in your identity and your taste in music is what i loved about you. Putting me on ferg, uzi and even tried to put me on korean pop. When you hit me and martin up to hangout in the summer, there was a part of me that dreaded it. When i left emmanuel i felt as though i made sure to remove myself from anyone there and went as far as dissociating from the identity i had there. Kept in touch with the ones i truly had love for and moved on. Seeing you meant i had to tap into that identity. Martin and i dont even fuck with each other like that anymore. The day came and martin ghosted, i pulled through. I hadnt seen you in years. You asked me to call jaya, and i did. We spent time in the parkinglot talking about life, music and the men we chose to be. You pulled up in a white beamer. You were level headed but i could tell you were happy about the car. kept emphasizing how it meant nothing to you. “I stay out of trouble. Mes amis font des bhays, moi j’vais au travail, et je rentre chez moi, je veux rien savoir.” I think that line of yours echoes through my conscious the loudest. “Je veux bouger au ouest, c’est calm ici”.
On the night Wednesday, August 10th, i was riding my motorcycle to the old port. The sun was setting and the sky was magnificent, but i couldnt shake this feeling in my stomach. The entropy in the air was strong, why does it feel like my clock is holding on by a thread? I was particularly paranoid and i couldn't comprehend why. My sixth sense was feeling particularly hazy. “is this how i go? will it be a pothole or an accident? am i gonna get drunk tn and drive into a lightpole?” I was playing eeny meeny miny moe, which one of these cars is going to projectile me on the otherside of the highway? I felt death lingering around me until i made it to the club that night. A fight broke out, and my boy got involved, so i got involved, is this it? collateral in a fight? but no, i was okay.
It was jeffs story that i saw first in the morning. “What the fuck does he know about you, why the fuck would he post that?” i messaged him, that shit wasnt funny, i was heated at 9 am. I checked cobis story, and texted jaya right away, l kept refreshing my phone while driving to work. This cant be real. But it was. The only time adulthood escapism was of any service; i was in brampton while people walked your vigil. I felt like i didnt show up for you the way you showed up for me in the west. When i came back i made sure to go to your funeral. I went alone on my bike. Found a seat and witnessed people speak on your name. Your family, your friends, and your mother. Your strong spirited mother. It was all still surreal. At your burial i was accompanied by some familiar faces, which made me feel some comfort. Your mom left fast. I wanted to stay as long as i could so i did. People came to you to say their good bye. I shied away, i didnt wanna front on anyone. One of your boys played uzi, the track you showed me in highschool. Eventually when people moved away, ivan put his arm around me and said: “come, we need to say good bye” ivan, devin, crystel and i came to see you. I put my hand on your casket and i prayed.
I prayed you found the quiet you looked for. I apologized for not putting effort to see you when i could have. And i thanked you for the music. I thanked you for the time, and thanked you for coming to see me and keeping in touch. You were always so big yet so gentle. I was far from being your closest friend, but the little bit of mutual love and respect we had for each other was enough to have me aching writing to you now. I know its meek, but i hope it is strong enough to travel to you. you really broke my heart. May your soul travel in music forever.
long live jaystarz.

Wild Police Story - Chapter #11 Text Translations
Hi! Here’s a text translation of Chapter 11. Scanlations of this chapter (and the previous one) are being worked on at the moment! ^^
Be aware that since this hasn’t been proofread yet - this is basically the translation as it came out of our minds - some parts might not be very clear, especially the Nagano Dialect part which is just a partial localization we came up with and will probably be changed in the final version.
Translation: Holmes Translation check: Manaphy

CASE 11. Convening and discussing
[Original Work: Aoyama Gosho Artist: Arai Takahiro]
[His fury, yet unbeknownst to everyone, lies hidden deep inside him.]
[The eagerly-awaited first volume will be on sale from the eighteenth of November on!] [Second chapter of the Morofushi Arc! With their hearts set on their beliefs, this is the story of their youthful days during the half a year spent at the Police Academy!]
Tumblr media
[Morofushi's past is going to be related right now...]
Morofushi: Understood! I’ll tell you... Morofushi: About that night from 15 years ago...
Morofushi: Enshrouded in that stench of steel... Morofushi: A night of dismay which made my inner clock’s hands... Morofushi: Freeze in place...
Morofushi: Someone came at around 7 PM when I was having dinner with my father and mother... Morofushi: Together with a loudly rung bell... *ding dong* *ding dong* *ding dong*
Morofushi: The visitor was apparently an acquaintance of my father's. Morofushi: At first, they conversed quietly by the entryway, which I could hear while being in the kitchen...
Morofushi: But before very long, the man started raising his voice... Morofushi: and as soon as my mom went to the entryway to check on them...
*GWAAAAAH* Morofushi: I could hear my father groaning... Morofushi: And so my mother came back with a radically changed facial expression, and told me...
Tumblr media
Morofushi: “Stay hidden here for a while!”... Morofushi: “Don't come out at all costs, till I tell you it's okay to!”... That's what she said.
Morofushi: As my mom said that, she put me inside a store cupboard... Morofushi: then, in turn, she went and quarrelled with that man... Morofushi: but soon after I couldn't hear her voice anymore, either...
Morofushi: and, what's more, a stench of steel started hanging over... Morofushi: To the point even I could smell it, despite being inside the cupboard. Hagiwara: What's this “steel” you've been talking about since earlier?
Furuya: He's talking about the smell of blood! Furuya: The haemoglobin contained in the red blood cells is mainly composed of iron. That's why. Hagiwara: I see...
Matsuda: So, what happened later? Hiromitsu: I could hear him humming... Date: What? Humming?!
Hiromitsu: Yeah... It wasn't dad's voice, nor mom's. Hiromitsu: It was a shrill-made coaxing voice... Hiromitsu: He was repeating the same phrase while putting it in rhythm, again and again...
Hiromitsu: T-Therefore... Hiromitsu: I gingerly peeked out of the store cupboard from its opening...
Tumblr media
Hiromitsu: And I saw a man holding a bloodstained knife, humming a tune... Hiromitsu: It went like, “it's fine nooow!”... Hiromitsu: “come out, pleeease!”...
Matsuda: What about the face?! Matsuda: Didn't you see that bloke's mug?! Hiromitsu: No, I didn't... Hiromitsu: I was too scared...
Furuya: How come that man was looking for you, though? Hiromitsu: Nah, he wasn't looking for me. Hiromitsu: I know because he called a girl's name after “come out please”.
Hiromitsu: That's right... The girl with whom I used to play when I was a kid's... Hiromitsu: “Yuri”, the name of the little girl looking just like the one who was reported missing last night!
Date: Why was he looking for that kid at your house? Furuya: What was her surname? Hiromitsu: I don't know... I always called her by her name... Hiromitsu: After she died from an illness, I did attend her funeral, but I was just a first-year elementary school pupil...
Hagiwara: You didn't see his face, but you did see the tattoo on his shoulder, didn't you? Hiromitsu: Yeah, I did. That man apparently tripped up because of all the blood, and he banged with his whole body against the armoire I was hidden inside... *BANG*
Tumblr media
Hiromitsu: When he moved away, for an instant... Hiromitsu: I saw on his shoulder... Hiromitsu: a tattoo shaped like a goblet!
Matsuda: Did he really have it on his shoulder? Hiromitsu: There’s no doubt! Hiromitsu: After moving away from the cupboard, he clutched his shoulder, as if it hurt...
Hiromitsu: So and at that moment, the tattoo that was visible just before... Hiromitsu: Got hidden by his bloody hand, rendering me unable to catch sight of it...
Date: And? What did he do after that? Hiromitsu: I don't know... Hiromitsu: Before I could notice... I fell asleep.
Hiromitsu: After that, I woke up to the sound of doors and stuff being opened and closed... Hiromitsu: and just when I was squaring off, thinking “shit! I’m gonna get found!”... *clatter rattle clatter*
Hiromitsu: someone opened the cupboard's shutter! *slide*
Tumblr media
Hiromitsu: It was my older brother, who had just come home from camp middle school... [Komei: Hiromitsu... Mom and dad are dead... Komei: What happened? Can you tell me?] Hiromitsu: It was noon of the following day already... Meaning I had been sleeping in the cupboard for half a day.
Hagiwara: So you had an older brother...? Hagiwara: I heard that, nowadays, he's a skilful police detective in the Nagano prefectural police, and is called the “Koumei of Nagano”! Matsuda: I like Guan Yu* better, though... Date: Who cares about The Records of the Three Kingdoms right now! [* TN: Both Koumei (Kong Ming in Chinese) and Guan Yu (Japanese name: Kan’u) are Chinese strategists whose feats are narrated in the Records of the Three Kingdoms.]
Date: Go ahead. Did you tell your brother about the murderer's tattoo? Hiromitsu: No, I didn't... I've been slightly amnesiac due to the shock caused by that case... Hiromitsu: and in addition, I've also been suffering from aphasia...
Hiromitsu: Later, we were put in our relatives' care — I was sent to Tokyo kinsmen, and my brother with Nagano's, and I changed scenery... Hiromitsu: Yet, my aphasia didn't heal for a while...
Hiromitsu: until I met Zero in Tokyo! [Furuya: It'd be way greater fun if you talked, y'know?]
Hagiwara: So you attended this place, the police academy because you want to seize the murderer? Hiromitsu: Spot on. Plus, I remembered several things recently... Hiromitsu: And I decided that I want to properly draw conclusions about what that was all about from a policeman's point of view... Hiromitsu: and transmit all that information to my brother in Nagano!
Hagiwara: And in the meantime, you chanced upon three suspicious individuals... Hiromitsu: R-Right...
Tumblr media
Hiromitsu: There’s Irie-san, who runs a hardware store... Hiromitsu: and has a goblet tattooed on his shoulder...
Hiromitsu: Then, Tomori-san, who has a laundromat... Hiromitsu: and has on his upper arm a tattoo of Kannon, alias the Guanyin...
Hiromitsu: And the clerk of the motorbike shop who has a scorpion tattooed on the back of his neck... Hiromitsu: If I remember well, he’s called Monobe-san...
Hiromitsu: But it's simply impossible for the murderer to be in Tokyo and not in Nagano... Hiromitsu: and, what's more, for him to coincidentally be in my surroundings... Isn't it? Matsuda: We went and questioned those three people, y'know?
Hiromitsu: Wha...?! Matsuda: Ain't that right? Hagiwara: Bullseye. Date: We all split up... Furuya: Since it's for your revenge, Hiro!
Hiromitsu: Hold on a second, though... How'd you know I'm looking for the murderer who killed my parents, in the first place? Matsuda: Of course we’d know. Matsuda: You were always looking up “Nagano Couple Slaughter Case” on the internet over and over... Hagiwara: Although it is the first time we hear in detail about the tattoo and the murderer's behaviour.
Furuya: Well then, let's start with the squad leader, who was in charge of dealing with Irie-san. Date: He's a silent person, so having him spit something out was a whole pain in the butt...
Tumblr media
Date: His name is Irie Sumio. He is forty-six years old and lives along with his wife. Date: He set up a hardware store in this city fourteen years ago. Date: He's a taciturn, unfriendly guy, but he's peerless when it comes to sharpening knives... That's his reputation in the neighbourhood.
Date: His shoulder tattoo is from 10 years ago... He tattooed the championship cup from when he won a ping-pong tournament hosted by the neighbourhood association. Matsuda: Ten years ago...? Date: Yes. I also checked on it with Tomori-san, whom he was paired with back then, so there's no doubt about it.
Date: After that, he told his wife something about horses and flowers, or something... Hiromitsu: You mean... Hiromitsu: He told her to “hose down the flowers”?
Date: Yes! That's it! Hiromitsu: In Nagano dialect, “giving” is often replaced with “hosing”! Hagiwara: Hold up! If that's the case...
Matsuda: But if he got his tattoo done ten years ago, the figures just don't add up, do they? Furuya: Then, Let's move on to Tomori-san, whom Hagi talked to...
Hagiwara: His full name is Tomori Hajime. He is fifty years old and lives alone. Hagiwara: Originally, his laundromat was run by an uncle of his, but he ended up straining himself... Hagiwara: so he planned to help him out till he was dismissed from the hospital, but he ended up continuing even after he passed away... Which brings us here... Apparently.
Hagiwara: He tattooed the Kannon, alias the Guanyin, on his upper arm when, 20 years ago, he lost his wife and mother at the same time in a traffic accident... Hagiwara: He apparently did it in order to mourn the two of them...
Tumblr media
Hagiwara: He's also got a reputation in the neighbourhood as a repairman. Hagiwara: Since he came out of some college's engineering department, it seems he used to repair simple electric appliances. Hagiwara: A tad like you, right, Jinpei-chan?
Hagiwara: He paired with Irie-san because he's a friend who comes from his same town... That's what he said. Furuya: If he got his tattoo twenty years ago, he did already have it fifteen years ago... Furuya: but a picture of the Kannon doesn't look like a goblet at all, no matter how you look at it...
Matsuda: Actually, speaking of goblet look-alikes, we have that motorbike shop clerk. Matsuda: His name is Monobe Shuuzou and he is thirty-five years old. Matsuda: He has a scorpion tattooed behind his neck, which is the logo of a group he used to be part of back when he was a rascal...
Matsuda: whose name is, in fact, Scorpion Glass! Hagiwara: So he rather modeled it after a goblet!
Matsuda: He said he got it tattooed when he was twenty, so I guess it kind of could barely fit...? Hagiwara: It's located behind the neck, though... Matsuda: Same as Tomori-san, he also lives alone.
Hagiwara: Huh? What's the matter, you two? Date: I don't know, there was just something... Furuya: Yeah, me too...
Hiromitsu: ... Matsuda: What's with you, Morofushi? Matsuda: You, too?
Hiromitsu: Yeah, well... Recently I phoned my older brother to tell him what I remembered about the case anyway, and... [Komei: Haste makes waste...]
Tumblr media
[Komei: Don't be in a hurry to seek success by consulting me without sufficient forethought. Komei: The place you were hidden in was not a store cupboard, but a closet equipped with kannon-biraki, alias double doors opening from the centre. Komei: That house was in Western-style, so it didn't have any Japanese store cupboards or sliding screens in the first place.]
Hiromitsu: That's what he told me. Hiromitsu: I'm sure I was in a cupboard, though... Furuya: Maybe aren't you mixing it up with your relatives' house here in Tokyo you were entrusted to?
Furuya: Since that house was Japanese-styled, and, conversely, only had sliding screens and cupboards... Hiromitsu: T-That could be...
Matsuda: If that were the case... Matsuda: wouldn't it be strange, though?
Matsuda: If you had been hiding in a closet with kannon-biraki double doors... Matsuda: then its door should've got shut when the murderer banged into it after tripping up...
Hagiwara: That's true... And in order to see the killer clutching his shoulder afterwards... Hagiwara: you would've had to open the shutter of the closet by yourself...
Matsuda: You... You opened the door in that situation? Hiromitsu: No way I could! Date: Then couldn't it be that the gap you were peeking out from...
Tumblr media
Date: wasn't vertical but horizontal...? Date: The slit in the closet... Date: would allow you to look outside with the shutter closed, wouldn't it?
Tumblr media
Onizuka: It's almost four o'clock... Onizuka: Maybe I should go check on those chaps a bit...
*rattle* Onizuka: Huh?
Onizuka: Hey, hey, hey... Onizuka: The dressing room is still dirty as hell?
Onizuka: Hey, you bums! You only have an hour left, y'know? Onizuka: As it is, you'll never make it in... *creak*
Onizuka: Hold on...
Onizuka: They're gone!
[Vertical and horizontal... The five have noticed something. Continued in the next issue.] [Continues in SS #50]

As the sun rose over the desert, you knew this meant other scavengers would be looking for the minerals and materials you hadn’t dared to leave behind.
“Come on Tinnier. We can scavenge here tomorrow.” The astromech droid chirped in response to your command. Rescuing him had been at the forefront of your worries this past year, his parts shredding away into oblivion with the rough winds the dunes carried. The ship you found yourself in creaked with the howling wind outside, the dry air flowing in and surrounding you, making it hard to breathe.
“Teedo will want you for parts if we’re not careful, T. Let’s stick to the basics and get out of here.”
The little droid stared at your bag inquisitively.
“It’s empty, mostly. Unkar won’t be happy, I know.”
“Wooo…”
“Do you need some help with that then?”
You looked up to see a girl not much different in age than you, her hair tied up and a cowl covering her face. Goggles were placed over the cowl, but she removed them to speak with you.
“Hi. You’re brave for coming all this way to gather your load.”
Looking at her in disbelief anyone could make it out this far in the dunes aside from you, you just blinked rapidly as Tinnier chirped next to you, breaking the ill-fated silence.
“You have a droid, all the way out here?”
“He keeps me company.” You stated, finally gaining the will to speak.
“Company is a hard thing to come by out here, it’s usually every scavenger for themselves.”
The girl went over to grab some of the pieces nearby where you stood, eyeing you cautiously per her recognition of her own sentiment. You didn’t mind, her eyes were inquisitive from your view, and you just smiled as she continued to stagger the space surrounding you. You noticed the way she spoke was different than the usual dialect spoken around your area, and for the briefest moment you wondered why. With your thoughts dawning on the consideration in her vocals, your view quickly switched to the large ship you’d found yourself in seeming to sway with the winds flowing into the hatch.
“There is so much destruction here, years and years of it.”
You mumbled the sentiment to yourself, but she heard. Tinnier chirped next to you and you looked at him.
“Thanks, buddy. You’re right.”
“What’s your droid’s name?”
The girl looked at you inquisitively again, not letting the spark of curiosity fade from her gaze. She cocked her head in awaiting your response as you looked between her and Tinnier.
“He’s TN-ER, Tinnier if you’d rather. I call him “T” for short.”
“An astromech droid… with a selenium hyper drive… A strange BB-unit, if I must say so.”
“I found him out here… he was deeply damaged, and with the right parts, I bribed Unkar to repair him in the hopes he’d help bring me back more worthwhile scraps.” You admitted this, even if you’d never spoken it aloud prior. She looked up at you and softly smiled.
“He’s kept me here, too, you know. I know all about waiting for the right time to have hope.”
The way she spoke sounded sincere, and she took a step closer to you to offer her hand.
“Let’s bring the pieces we find back to Unkar, together… do we have a deal?”
Looking at her, her eyes more narrowed than they were when you last glanced to them, you noted she seemed hopeful you’d accept. She smiled when you grabbed her hand and shook it in gratitude.
Together you scoured the area for scraps of metal and pieces of debris to bring back to the Outpost before the sun would set over the dunes one final time in the daylight. The heat was unbearable outside, yet the cool metal from the ship’s interior gave you a moment’s pause to rest as your legs caved in and you now noticed the staff laying on the ground before the girl’s feet.
“Where did you get that?”
“Like your droid, I found it,” she grinned then, “it helps me feel safe.”
“From people like Unkar?”
“Dangerous people, yes.”
The more you heard her speak, the more wise her words seemed. There was an ounce of truth to them, but the words never seemed to stretch the meaning of what she would tell you. Just like your case, Jakku was no easy place to call home. Tinnier was a bonus, and now this girl was your next hope for finding any sort of resolve in company. You appreciated it, the way she would speak her words in full, no hidden meanings behind a single thought.
“People like Unkar… they’re after the worst things in life. He bargains to get by.”
“We all do.”
“Have you always lived here, then?”
“I’ve always waited for my family to come back. I can only hope they will, one day.”
Tinnier beeped in response to her hopeful words, coming up next to her and circling her.
“He says we should get back, it’s getting dark outside.”
With that you both stood up and got your pack ready for the trek back to the outpost.
“Would you like to come back with me? We can deliver the parts together easier that way.”
“I’m…” you cut your thought short when you looked at her genuinely. Your eyes met hers and her smile cut warmly through the uncertainty you were feeling for not taking up her offer… “yes, thank you.”
You realized why her offer spoke to you, as you exited the ship’s main compartment and found a speeder bike in a red coloring contrasting itself to the sand it hovered above. You smiled in bewilderment at her.
“You own a speeder?”
“I salvaged it myself… Did you walk all of the way?”
You sheepishly looked away, and it wasn’t until you looked back at her that you noticed a sense of pity dart across her features.
“You don’t have to anymore. We could come here in the daytime, scavenge pieces, and repair them if you’d like.”
“Thank you.”
You hopped onto the speeder behind the girl, careful to suspend the pieces of metal into the carrying compartment on the side of the speeder, the girl letting her staff hang out from the bag, and Tinnier fall into the compartment as well.
The ride back to Unkar’s was quick, the sun beginning to dip below the dunes and the chilly night air crisp in your face. The lights to Unkar’s shop lit up brightly, and you thanked your inner voice he was still open for bargains.
“Unkar.”
You hollered to him, a pair of strong arms lifting the gate to his shop.
“Ah… what have you brought me?”
You placed the wreckage and debris on the counter, pieces falling back down on the sand below. You and the girl had scavenged so much, it wasn’t going to fit inside his shop.
He looked between you and the girl rapidly, unsure of how to handle the situation, but he grumpily stomped to the back, pulling out two quarter portions of a meal ration.
“Last week each of these pieces would be worth a full portion each, Unkar.”
The girl quickly grabbed your hand when she stepped forward, taking the lead in the bargain when you had begun to tense up. She must have sensed this, because she kept her quizzical look directly to the sly businessman with the power to deal between hunger and satiation.
“Take what you can get, and leave me alone.”
He quickly scooped up the pieces, pushing the rations out of the way of the door, and shutting the gate.
“That… didn’t go as planned.”
Your voice gave away any sense of keeping hope up, and you rubbed your arm as you scooped the rations into your bag, handing the girl her share.
“He only wants the parts.”
The girl shook her head, until she looked up at you and sighed.
“I’m sorry… I don’t know your name.”
“It’s-“
Before you could answer, the girl hugged you. Her embrace was warm, comforting, even. She pulled you closer in the embrace, and, uncertain of what else to do, you hugged her back. It had been too long since this embrace was ever felt for you, and you welcomed the feeling of acceptance she lended to you then.
“I’m Rey, thank you for today.”
“Rey… you’re welcome.”
You felt her pull away, but you kept your eyes locked on her gaze, as you both smiled, before Tinnier broke the moment once more.
“Tinnier wants to go back tomorrow.”
“I second that.” Rey stated, and together you spent the night in the confounds of the Nima Outpost, staying up all of the time of night in rages of wit, laughter, and humility. You felt at peace, happy, and content in the place you both called home.

so here’s my lover secret session’s story... 02/08/2019 london 🏹🇬🇧
Tumblr media
i got my dm on twitter on july 16th at 5:15pm and i looked at it thinking someone was trying to boo boo the fool me and it was really gonna say something like “stream ME!” so i opened it not thinking much of it and my heart literally SANK when i saw it was actually REAL. i got the phone call 4 days after from a girl called sara who was from Taylor Nation, she told me everything and i was literally in the storage room in work crying.
so it’s finally august 2nd.. i got up at 5am cause i literally had 4 different trains and 2 ubers to catch, when i finally got to my hotel it was around 11am, i checked in and got ready and went to the meeting point. i was literally the first one there so i panicked thinking i was at the wrong place but more people started to show up and immediately everyone formed little friendship groups who they seemed to have stayed with the whole day which was insane. i met lisa and emma which i’d recognised from twitter because we’d been following each other for so long and then georgia, evie & shiv all came over and we all just bonded and instantly became friends and realised we we’re the brits of the group, there were SO many international fans and it was amazing seeing people come from all over the world! our group was first on the bus and i’m not sure why but we were literally all crying like wtf was going on?? we drove past a few ambulances thinking ‘that’s gonna be our ride home after tonight’ cause at this point i’m like dying and then we finally got to THE HOUSE.
we all go inside, the ME! playlist was on, there was a huge moose head on the wall which we all became really intrigued by, a huge mirror to see ourselves ugly crying, there was food & drinks and little m&m’s with ‘lover’ and hearts on them and i have no idea what was going on in my mind at this point, like i didn’t know what to expect.
so then we all go to the living room we’re there was a bunch of cushions on the floor and a chair and speakers in front of us and i KNEW what was about to go down lads, it’s about to happen, we’re about to hear lover and i just wasn’t ready and i was sat THERE in front of the chair and a few minutes later... SHE COMES OUT FROM BEHIND THIS DOOR LOOKING LIKE LIKE AN ACTUAL GODDESS THAT JUST STEPPED OUT OF HEAVEN AND I DEAD ASS DIED RIGHT THERE THINKING ABOUT THAT AMBULANCE I SAW EARLIER ON CAUSE SHE JUST WASNT REAL. so she’s like “welcome to the lover secret sessions” and the noise that came out me was actually not human at all. she played half the album the first and kept apologising for ranting and going off topic which was so funny, she’s so adorable i was literally in awe. then was like “we’re gonna take a break so you can all go the bathroom, have a drink and stretch your legs” and then mentions she’s made us treats and everyone’s like OMG and she’s literally like “it’s just rice crispy treats i dyed in heart shapes” and it was just the funniest thing bc she’s just so sarcastic but they were the cutest things and just knowing she spent time making them was honestly insane. like i ate a rice crispy heart treat..made by taylor swift? sounds fake. so then as she’s passing them around, she’s goes into the garden and starts talking to everyone and thanking people’s parents and let everyone on her trampoline and just shouts “THESE ARE MY KIDS” with a glass of wine in her hand and it was such a taylor swift moment. it was just surreal like wtf? imagine bouncing on taylor swifts trampoline? i would’ve went on it but i wasn’t about to break my neck before listening to the rest of the album x
okay so we go back in to listen to the rest of the album and throughout the whole album listening part, i just kept crying and she kept looking at me and smiling and singing and i was just bloody in shock. there was one point during a song we’re me and georgia we’re holding onto each other crying and she just looks at us and tilts her head and gives us the most warming smile. right there we both died together it was unreal. but the album HOLY SHIT every song was INSANE. i found it so hard to pick a favourite so i have 3, this album is literally her BEST, and this coming from a speak now stan🤝 i was just the happiest i’ve ever been, it just seemed like a dream. seeing her sat there in front of me so happy and in such a good place, feeling so proud of this album and these songs just made my heart feel so full. what i was feeling in that moment is unexplainable. just pure happiness like i knew life doesn’t get any better than this... right it’s time for the meet and greets and everyone goes back in to the other room whilst they got ready and people started queuing then to go in and meet her, she spent so much time with every single person and seeing everyone’s faces coming out that room was so magical. the event was supposed to be over at 11pm and it’s literally 1:30am when it was my time to meet her. she’d literally been meeting people for HOURS and is 2 and half hours past the end time and she didn’t even mind. everyone was so eager to go inside that me and the girls decided to wait till the end.
so evie had just come out and now it’s my turn. i almost fainted, i was so dizzy and nervous and WHEN I TELL U I WAS PETRIFIED TO GO INSIDE, I ACTUALLY MEAN IT BECAUSE I WAS STOOD OUTSIDE THE DOOR REFUSING TO GO IN FOR ABOUT A MINUTE CAUSE I COULD JUST SEE HER STOOD THERE AND I WASN’T READY BECAUSE LIKE I’VE DREAMT ABOUT THIS MOMENT SINCE FOREVER. emma and lisa we’re stood there laughing trying to force me inside as well as a girl from TN. took me a good minute but i finally walked in, i walk over to her trying not to cry AGAIN and she’s stood there smiling at me and she says to me “it’s tyler isn’t it?” and i was like JDJSKDJD “yeah 😭😭😭😭” cause i didn’t think she knew who i was and i was just randomly picked by TN??? she then pulled me in for the biggest hug and i just felt like this is it, i’m gonna bloody pass out. I TOLD HER THAT WAITING IN THAT QUEUE TO MEET HER WAS LIKE WAITING FOR THE ELECTRIC CHAIR and i was like why tf did i just say that omg but she laughed and was like “omg hahaha it’s like waiting for the electric chair that’s so funny” then i gave her the lover necklace i’d gotten made for her so we had matching and she kept saying how much she loved and how beautiful it was. then said “i love your necklace” with a little smirk because i was wearing her ‘TS’ initial necklace and my heart just went HDAJHDJDDH. then she asked did i enjoy the day and i was like of course??? it was so amazing i couldn’t stop crying and she was like “aw i had so much fun, i love doing these” and then she asked how i’d gotten here and i told her that i had to take 4 trains and she looked so shocked and thanked me for doing that and asked if i was travelling afterwards and i told her i had a hotel and she goes “omg good, PLEASE don’t talk to any strangers” and i’m just like YEAH OF COURSE ANYTHING FOR U MISS SWIFT :’)))) i hugged her about 3 more times and i asked her about tour, and how she found me and she said she’d found me on tumblr and literally said “its tylovestaylor right?” and i was just like WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK. IM SCARED. cause i barely use tumblr because i’m the only one who reblogs myself??? and i’d gotten my dm on twitter so my mind was like wtf is going on right now?? i told her i changed my url and she said she’d follow me 🥺 then says “so do you wanna like... take a picture together or something?” YEAH OF COURSE, IM A BIT OF A MESS RN BUT ABSOLUTELY. she asks what i wanted to do for the photo like stand, sit, go near the piano? and i told her to choose because my mind was just all over the place and she says to me “i think one sitting down with our legs crossed over acting all (then does some pose) and stuff” i just couldn’t believe what was actually happening. we sit down next to each other and she grabs my hand and i’m just holding her and the photographer takes the photo and she tells me to have a look to see if i like it and i said i looked so bad and she goes “ITS SO CUTE, YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL AND PHOTOGENIC” then the photographer told me i was really photogenic and tay goes “SEE SHE EVEN SAID IT” did taylor swift..who invented photos and beauty... just call me beautiful and photogenic? surely not. so we took one more pic and she said she loved it so i loved it😭😭😭 we got up and hugged again and i just kept saying i love you and she told me i was beautiful and i was like SO ARE U???? and then i told her that i still don’t believe she’s real and she laughed. we hugged again i told her i loved her as i was walking out she shouts “please get home safely” and i said “have a safe flight wherever you’re going next” at the same time and she laughed and was like “OMG THANKYOU?” and i walked out and the emotions i was going through oh my god. i’d just met my favourite person in the entire world? like never in a million years did i think i’d ever meet her let alone get handpicked for secret sessions. i was in so much shock like it wasn’t real. that never happened? i’m still in shock now and literally crying writing this. she was so lovely and welcoming and spoke to me like she’d known me forever.
AND AFTER ALL THAT, SHE DECIDES SHE WANTS ME LITERALLY DEAD AND LIKES MY POST ON HERE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER. RIGHT AFTER I’D MET HER.
i couldn’t get over how beautiful she is, inside and out like i already knew that but seeing her in real life is so different, she’s literally flawless and so cute and delicate and i’ll literally die for this woman. thankyou so much, from the bottom of my heart @taylorswift for choosing me out of 100m+ fans, i’ll never understand why i was chosen but i can’t explain how grateful i am. it was by far the best day i’ve ever had in my 18 years of being alive, nothing will ever come close to that moment. i cant wait for everyone else to hear this album, i miss you and your hugs already and i forgot to tell you because my mind was blank but i’m insanely proud of you and will support you forever. promise.

Klaroline AU Week - Day 7 - Trope x Trope - Wolf Mates x Rockstars/Musicians
From opposing packs, Klaus and Caroline had a connection from an early age. However, their parents forced them apart five years earlier through lies and deceit, and now they’re coming face-to-face after all these years. (Points of view will alternate.)
Fox and Hound Bar, Memphis, TN -
Klaus
“Do you think this is a good idea right now?” Lucien asked, keeping his voice low.
“We need a backing singer, Lucien,” he growled, finishing off the last of his beer and placing it back on the bar.
“You know what I mean,” he muttered. “Given current tensions between our packs, putting the call out might attract our enemies.”
“Would that be such a bad thing?”
“I know you love a good fight, Mikaelson, but you’re Alpha now. That risky logic could get, not only you, but the whole pack slaughtered.”
“Were you always this much of a wet blanket when we were younger or has it just been too long, Luc?” Klaus patted his friend on the back affectionately.
He and Lucien were raised together in the Appalachians and roamed together as pups. Theirs was the most formidable pack in North-Eastern America during that time. Although they weren’t without their enemies, the Forbes Pack being their biggest rivals.
“What’s really going on here, mate? You return from London after five years away and insist on getting the band back together, even though you should have far more pressing things on your schedule.”
“You know music has always relaxed me,” he murmured, thinking back to when she’d serenade him as they lay in fields of wildflowers bathed in moonlight. “It’s also the perfect way to signal my return to the States.”
“Trust me, I think everyone already knows you’re back.” Klaus momentarily wondered whether she knew by now and if she was on her way as he’d predicted when he advertised for a singer.
“I think getting back on the road will be good, Lucien, not just for my rusty singing pipes and guitar skills but so we can do a little reconnaissance.”
“You know every square inch of these territories, we’ve roamed them together for years. What more information could you possibly need?”
“You forget I haven’t been here for five years, things can change. Plus it is the perfect cover story.”
“This doesn’t have anything to do with...”
“Don’t say it,” he hissed, knowing that if he uttered her name Klaus would struggle to regain his composure. “This is about staying ahead of the enemy. We’ve allowed the pack’s power to diminish for too long.”
“You’ve changed.”
“What do you mean?”
“You couldn’t care less about rivalries and power back then, it’s why you escaped to England in the first place. Well, that and because of...”
“What did I tell you about mentioning that?” He emitted a low growl and Lucien could tell he’d overstepped the boundaries.
“Okay, so then what happened in London, Klaus?” A lot, he thought, but there was no way he was willing to divulge that just yet, he didn’t want to endanger his friend unless it was absolutely necessary.
“I had a much-needed rest from my domineering father,” he muttered, knowing that part at least was true. Mikael Mikaelson had recently been taken ill which is why Klaus had begrudgingly returned to take over as Alpha.
He was actually surprised he was chosen given their problematic relationship. Although given Elijah had left the pack to live a ‘normal’ life in New York City, as he liked to call it, and Kol was considered far too immature it wasn’t altogether out of the realms of possibility in hindsight.
“He won’t like this.”
“I couldn’t give a damn, Lucien,” he growled. “He’s not in charge right now, he gave up that right when he named me Alpha of this pack. I have no desire to run things like he did. The fear and intimidation only gets you so far and the fact Bill Forbes has taken back much of the land we claimed shows his methods aren’t working.”
“Even so, how do you expect to gain their trust?”
“I have my ways,” he murmured mysteriously. “What Mikael has never understood is that It isn’t always about the attack. Knowing your enemies is the most important strategy in defeating them.”
“But...”
“Has anyone ever told you that you ask too many questions?” He chuckled. “Now, how about we get these auditions underway?”
“Last time I checked, I was manager of this band, or did you decide to dump me during your London sojourn?”
“Sister, always a pleasure.”
“Don’t lie, Niklaus, it’s not very becoming on you,” she murmured, peering at him critically.
Klaus knew she was still angry about being looked over as Alpha but Mikael was far too sexist to ever make that decision. It wasn’t right, it was just how things were. But Klaus had every intention of using her power and strength to his advantage.
“Rebekah,” Lucien greeted her lazily. “I’d say it’s a pleasure but you know I’d be lying.”
“You know, Lucien, there is a thing called a razor, you might want to use it sometime, facial hair does absolutely nothing for you.”
“Okay, children, enough!”
Caroline...
“I could think of at least fifty other things I’d prefer to be doing right now,” Enzo complained.
Caroline just shook her head. They’d been best friends and roommates for a while now and his whining knew no bounds.
She looked at the Fox and Hound Bar looming ahead wondering if she was doing the right thing. Caroline considered herself to be level-headed for the most part. She executed everything she did with calm consideration but, unfortunately, when it came to a certain wolf things had a tendency to fly out the window, even after all these years.
She wasn’t sure why he still had that effect on her. He had no right to invade her thoughts after running away and leaving her but yet here she was. It was five years ago now and Caroline had been living and studying at College far away in California so it shouldn’t matter anymore. But it did.
“Do we think that pulling the fake boyfriend thing to make someone jealous is a little To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before?”
“You’ve been watching far too much Netflix,” she muttered. “When we get back to LA I’m cutting you off for your own good, Lorenzo.”
“What exactly is the plan? And just so you know, I’m not kissing you,” he muttered, his disgusted expression saying it all.
“Wow, way to make a girl feel good about herself,” she shot back nervously, looking down at her outfit and fiddling with her golden waves that were cascading down her back. She’d decided on the perfect make your ex regret he ever messed with you ensemble.
Translation; black, leather pants fitted like a second skin and a cropped, Rolling Stones t-shirt. The pants were to make him wish her legs were wrapped around his waist in an entirely non-PG way and the t-shirt because she knew he preferred the Beatles. It was the perfect combination of sexy and sassy.
“You look gorgeous, darling,” he replied, reaching out and squeezing her hand comfortingly. “But are you sure this is a good idea? You’ve spent the past five years trying to get over this guy and failed.”
“I date,” she stuttered.
“Your teddy bear doesn’t count, Forbes,” he replied sarcastically. “Anyway, what is your plan? We both know your singing is off the charts but what happens after you ace the audition?”
Caroline knew what was next and it wasn’t just a little bit of jealous payback. She had been waiting for the day that he returned to the States so she could put her plan in motion.
Her father and the pack were on the precipice of dominating the Mikaelsons but the strategy to appoint a new Alpha had put a rather large dent in their plans. Mikael was predictable in combat, Klaus completely dangerous because he was the absolute opposite.
As soon as Bill had told her, Caroline knew it was time to return to the family fold. She knew he’d put out the call to entice her for his own purposes but Caroline was going to play the Alpha at his own game.
“We call a truce.”
“How does that fit into the revenge plan, darling?”
“Patience, Enzo, all in good time.”
Caroline straightened her t-shirt and powered ahead, nervous but at the same time exhilarated for what was to come. Klaus Mikaelson wouldn’t know what hit him.

Chapter 79: Alone on the Lake
TN XBAVUSA SUL ZUSALLZF GSL ZLZBKX IFK AJUWLK DPNZ BWMSL LUZ OACM HV YW KLKHXJ GGBZ EKBIJK?
“Ok, Lapis, we’re almost there!”
“I think I’m starting to guess the surprise, you two,” Lapis noted with a small smile, still keeping her aquatic wings wrapped over her eyes as she followed Steven and Mabel’s enthusiastic lead.
“Your eyes are supposed to be closed!” Steven reminded brightly.
“Sorry,” Lapis chuckled, following his instructions this time as the pair continued to guide her onward. “Are you still back there, Dipper?” she called, glancing over her shoulder behind her, though keeping her eyes shut all the while.
“Hm?” Dipper looked up, his hands shoved away in his pockets as he kept pace quite a bit behind the trio as they traveled down the dock. “Oh, uh, yeah, I’m here.”
“Mind telling me where we’re going?” the blue Gem continued addressing him with a small, playful smile. “I have an idea, but these two aren’t giving me any hints.”
“Cause that would be cheating!” Mabel pointed out, resolute. “And it would ruin the surprise.”
“Speaking of surprises, wait here just a second.” Steven and Mabel both relinquished their holds on Lapis’ hands, running over to join Greg and Stan near the edge of the dock before unveiling what they had in store for the day. “Surprise!”
Lapis let her wings retract, opening her eyes to see something that she didn’t really know what to make of at first. The wide lay of Lake Gravity Falls spread out before the group from the small dock they were all on, its murky waters dully glistening in the mid-morning sun. And resting on that lake, tethered to a post, was a moderately large boat, one that looked rather fancy and modern, aside from the bizarre, out of place skull and crossbone flags draping from its sides and hanging from its flagpole.
“We bought a boat!” Steven proclaimed excitedly.
“Correction, we rented a boat,” Greg chimed in. “I may be rich, but buying a boat would be going a bit… overboard!”
“Ugh, please someone make him stop,” Stan groaned insincerely. “He’s been making lame boat puns ever since we picked this thing up from the rental place. I’d fire him for them… if he still worked for me.”
“What can I say, Mr. Pines?” Greg let out a small chuckle. “I just keep reeling ‘em in!”
Steven and Mabel were quick to join in on the former rock star’s amused laughter, and though it took Stan a moment, he ultimately folded with a bit of a wry smirk himself. “Uh… what’s with the pirate theme?” Dipper spoke up as he looked over the boat.
“Er, the rental place was out of the “Family Friendly Day On the Lake” boat package,” Greg explained. “All they had left was the “A Pirate’s Life for Me” package, which is really just those flags. Oh, and I think there’s a stuffed parrot and a set of decorative swords on board.”
“There’s also a bunch of peg legs, pirate hats, and eye patches stored under one of the seats,” Stan added dryly. “So, ya know, you kids can knock yourselves out with those.”
“Ooo!” Steven mused, intrigued.
“I call the eye patch!” Mabel quipped, raising her hand.
“Oh no, ya don’t,” Stan pulled said eye patch out of his pocket and slipped it on. “I already beat ya to it, pumpkin.”
“Aw, dang it! Not again!”
“Steven, Dipper, Mabel,” Lapis spoke up, glancing over at Stan and Greg, somewhat confused. “Who are these people?”
“Ah, Greg Universe,” Greg introduced himself, holding out a hand for her to shake. “You, uh, busted up my van trying to use the lake to fly back to your homeworld?”
“Lapis Lazuli,” the blue Gem offered him a somewhat awkward smile though she didn’t return his handshake. “Nice to meet you.”
“And Lapis, you remember Grunkle Stan, right?” Mabel asked as she came to stand alongside the conman.
“Oh right!” Lapis nodded. “You’re the guy who looks like Ford, but isn’t Ford.”
“Ugh, if I had a nickel for every time I heard that one when I was a kid...” Stan rolled his eyes, disgruntled.
“That’s ‘cause Grunkle Stan and Grunkle Ford are twins,” Mabel informed the blue Gem with a smile as she suddenly pulled Dipper close beside her. “Just like me and Dipper!”
“Ugh, Mabel! Knock it off!” Dipper huffed in annoyance as he quickly pulled away from her. He paid no mind to the curious looks the others were sending his way as a result of his sudden harshness as he instead went to take a seat at the far edge of the dock instead.
“Aw, c’mon, bro-bro, I was just… aw, ok…” Mabel sighed in quiet defeat as she watched him sullenly walk away.
“Yeesh, he’s acting even more Dippery than usual,” Stan remarked bluntly before oblivious moving on. “Anyway, we’d better get a move on. The ice in that treasure chest-shaped cooler on deck is only gonna keep those sandwiches cold for so long.”
“Good point,” Greg agreed, trailing after the conman. “Let’s get the boat started.”
As the pair headed aboard the rented vessel, everyone else hung back on the dock for a bit, particularly Lapis as she hardly even seemed to be focused on the boat at all. “What’s going on with Dipper?” she asked Steven and Mabel with newfound concern. “He seems… upset about something.”
“I don’t know…” Steven frowned. “Yesterday he seemed so excited about our plans to bring you out here to spend the day with you, Lapis, but now…”
“I-I think I might know what’s up,” Mabel said, glancing down apprehensively. “Last night I overheard him talking in his sleep--which he only really does when he’s having a nightmare--a-and it must have been a pretty bad one cause he said something about… a-about you know who…”
“No,” Lapis shook her head, confused. “Who?”
“Oooh…” Steven immediately understood, however, his expression quickly turning grave. “Again? I thought he stopped having those kinds of nightmares after we put up the unicorn shield around the shack.”
“The what?” the blue Gem tried interjecting once more, completely out of the loop.
“Yeah, well… you know Bill,” Mabel said, her tone and expression both taking on an air of disdain. “He never quits, even when he really should. And if he can’t mess with us for real anymore, I guess dreams are the next best thing for him.”
“Wait, slow down,” Lapis said, putting her hands up. “What are you guys talking about? Who’s this Bill person? Someone who’s been messing with Dipper?”
“Messing with all of us, actually…” Steven rubbed his arm. “He’s this really powerful, really mean demon who we’ve been fighting against all summer. We’ve been up against him a bunch of times, but the worst was when he-” The young Gem stopped short at this, particularly as he met the sight of Mabel silently shaking her head, her lips pressed in a thin line and her eyes wide with worry. Steven was quick to understand her intent, however, when he happened to glance between Lapis, who was looking to him with expectant curiosity, and Dipper, who was still sitting alone, forlorn as he stared into the lake from the edge of the dock. “Uh… h-he, um…” Steven stammered, unsure of how to explain exactly what had happened what felt like ages ago now. Especially to Lapis, of all Gems, who cared so much for Dipper and had, at least in some way, been the very driving force for him striking the dangerous deal with the dream demon that he had back then. A deal that was clearly still leaving it’s heavy, painful mark on him, even long after it had ended.
“L-long story short,” Mabel cut in just in time with a brief, largely safe explanation. “Bill tricked Dipper into making a deal with him that went pretty sour pretty fast and it, uh… m-may or may not almost got him, um… k-killed,” she winced, a familiar pang of guilt filling her as she so much as said the dreadful word.
“W-what?!” Lapis exclaimed, aptly alarmed.
“O-oh, but don’t worry! It didn’t actually, o-of course,” Steven rushed to interject. “A-and my healing powers helped patch up everything else‒eventually. So, everything’s fine now! W-well… almost everything…” The young Gem frowned as he looked in Dipper’s direction himself, wishing there was more he could do to help heal what was an entirely different kind of wound now.
“B-but, I don’t understand,” Lapis shook her head, her expression awash in immense worry. “Why would Dipper make a deal like that anyway? Even if he was tricked, I know he’s smarter than to fall for something like that.”
Steven and Mabel exchanged an uncertain glance at this, knowing that the last thing Lapis needed was to know exactly why Dipper had taken a chance on such a risky bargain in the first place. “Uh… w-who can say?” Mabel shrugged, forcing out a harsh, fake chuckle. “It doesn’t really matter anymore anyway since it’s all said and done and we can forget about it and move on with our lives! S-so instead of talking about all that depressing junk, let’s talk about something way more fun instead! Like this boat! What do you think about it, Lapis?”
“Oh, uh… it’s… nice,” Lapis said somewhat absently as she finally pulled her gaze away from Dipper. “But... I don’t know…”
“Look, Lapis,” Steven took a deep, steadying breath, noticing the hesitation in the blue Gem as she turned her attention to the lake in particular. “We know you spent a really long time fused with Jasper at the bottom of the lake, but… you’re not Malachite anymore. And water is part of who you are. You can’t let one bad experience take that away from you!”
“It was more than one…” Lapis sighed, crossing her arms.
“Well… maybe we can turn all those bad times around and make a brand-new good time instead!” Mabel encouraged warmly. “We promise that this is gonna be the most fun you’ve ever had!”
“Thank you, but I… I don’t deserve this…” Lapis shook her head fretfully.
“Of course you do!” Steven insisted. “We even named her Lil’ Lappy!” He nodded over to the boat, where Stan and Greg were attempting to tape a banner with this new name to the side of the boat, only for it to slightly slip off to reveal the vessel’s true title: the S.S. Misery”.
Despite this, Lapis was unable to hold back a snort of an amused laugh at such a ridiculous sight, one that told just how hard the kids were working to put all this together for her. “Ok, I’ll give it a chance. But just one.”
“That’s the spirit!” Mabel beamed. “Now c’mon! We better get on board before Grunkle Stan hogs the rest of that super cool pirate gear to himself!”
“Too late!” Stan called from on deck, clad in the eyepatch, captain’s hat, and fake peg leg alike.
Even so, Mabel and Steven hurried on ahead to climb aboard, though Lapis stayed behind, largely so she could go over to join Dipper as he remained at the edge of the dock. Along the way, she couldn’t help but let her thoughts wander, both to the deepest concern for the boy himself, and quiet, yet fledgling fury for the mysterious demon who had apparently put him through so much lingering distress. “H-Hey,” she greeted him as casually as she could manage, despite all this. “Aren’t you coming along?”
“Oh! Y-yeah,” Dipper was quick to stand, though he made no move to go over to the boat as he offered Lapis a concerned glance instead. “Are… are you sure you’re ok with this? I tried telling them that taking you out on the lake might not be… the best idea, considering… well…”
“N-no, it’s ok,” Lapis assured him with a small smile. “I think it’s really… sweet that you guys went to all the trouble to put all this together for me. Even if it might be a bit… too much.”
“It’s always too much when Steven and Mabel are involved,” Dipper finally let out a small chuckle, one that set Lapis’ worries to ease as she hoped that maybe he wasn’t as upset as he seemed. At least for now.
“Need a lift?” she asked, summoning her wings as she extended a hand out to him.
“Sure.” With this, Lapis easily swept Dipper up off the dock, giving him an easy landing on board the boat alongside Steven and Mabel before she came down to join them herself.
“How do I say it again, Mr. Pines?” Greg’s voice echoed from the ship’s intercom on the bridge. “Mighties?”
“It’s ‘maties’, Greg,” Stan deadpanned, not realizing the mic was already on either.
“Got it; maties,” Greg actually turned to the intercom so he could properly address the group on deck. “Uh, ahoy, maties! Are ya scurvy land-lovers-”
“Landlubbers,” Stan corrected once more.
“...What the hey is a lubber?”
“Ugh, gimme that!” the conman promptly took over the intercom at this. “What he’s trying to say is, are you all ready to take off or not?”
“Aye, aye, captain!” Mabel and Steven proclaimed in unison, both of them presenting dramatic salutes.
“...Yes,” Lapis said simply as Dipper nodded his agreement as well.
“Good,” Stan said simply, hanging up the intercom line. “You do know how to work this tub, don’t you, Greg?”
“Uh… w-well… It can’t be that tricky…” Greg looked over the ship’s rather complicated control deck, though he did manage to find its starting clutch. “Aha! Full speed ahea-” The former rock star was abruptly cut off as the entire boat jolted hard as it began to take off, knocking everyone on board about. However, as it did, the force of the vessel’s abrupt movement suddenly ripped the post it was tethered to, one that neither Greg nor Stan had thought to untie it from before climbing aboard. “Aw, geez…” Greg shuddered upon glancing back to see the post skimming behind the boat as it ventured out onto the open lake. “You think anyone will notice?”
“You better hope no one does,” Stan remarked. “Trust me, Greg, you do not want a run-in with lake police. I learned that the hard way…”
Despite the pleasant, late summer weather, not too many other boats were out on the water, meaning the group largely had the lake all to themselves. As soon as the boat had settled into a more relaxed pace out near the center of the water, Lapis and the kids went to join Greg and Stan up in the bridge, largely to inquire about the wooden post still lagging behind the ship.
“Yeah, I-I think I did a number on that deck,” Greg scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. “Maybe someone else should take a shot at being captain instead…”
“Ya think?” Stan deadpanned.
“What do you say-” Greg grinned as he took his captain’s hat off and turned it over to Lapis instead. “Captain Lazuli?”
“I-I shouldn’t…” Lapis winced fretfully.
“Go for it, Lapis!” Steven encouraged.
“Yeah! You’ll make a great captain!” Mabel chimed in enthusiastically. “You can even use this spare eyepatch I stole from Grunkle Stan when he wasn’t looking!”
“Wha-” Stan took pause, reaching near his eye to find that his eye patch wasn’t covering it anymore. “When did you-”
“Don’t put me in charge!” Lapis suddenly snapped, agitated. She drew in a small, anxious gasp as she realized just how intense her refusal had been, to the point that all three of the kids were sending concerned looks her way.
“Lapis…?” Dipper spoke up, by far the most worried of the already very worried trio. And as soon as Lapis caught his concerned gaze, she made a very rushed effort at righting herself, more for his sake than anyone else’s.
“Oh, uh… s-sorry,” the blue Gem shook her head to clear it. “I mean… y-you shouldn’t trust me with the boat.”
“Uh, that’s ok,” Steven said, trying to brighten the tense mood once more. “Don’t worry about it. We can all be first mates, so there’s no pressure. Only fun stuff today!”
Lapis nodded, allayed by this plan, even if she was still discreetly trying not to pay too much mind to the wide lay of the lake all around them. “Lapis, you can still wear the hat if you want,” Greg held said hat out to her again.
“Thanks,” Lapis smiled. “But I’m not putting that on my body.”
“What about the eye patch?” Mabel asked, eagerly offering it to the blue Gem until Stan intercepted it instead.
“Give me that!” he swiped the patch, proudly placing it over his eye once more. “Ah, now that’s better.”
“Ok, everyone,” Greg grinned, putting the captain’s hat back on as he took the boat’s wheel once again. “Let’s set a course for fun!”
Though Lake Gravity Falls was quite sizable, it was still a rather small lake compared to the boat itself, which was why there really weren’t too many places it could go upon it. Still, that hardly stopped the small group aboard from enjoying themselves in whatever ways they could. They snacked on their small stash of cold cut sandwiches alongside a bottle of sparkling orange juice served in fancy glasses (a ritual Lapis didn’t quite understand and didn’t really know how to indulge in even as everyone else did). Still, Lapis watched on the sidelines as Steven and Mabel engaged in a pretend “pirate duel” with the decorative swords on deck (a duel Greg was quick to put a nervous stop to when he realized the swords, however dull they might have been, were still made of actual metal). After that, they all took a break to lounge out on the boat’s open deck, soaking in the rays of the warm summer sun, though most of the while, though Lapis found herself preoccupied with two other completely different sights instead. The first was the lake, its calm, quiet, cerulean waters practically taunting her with thoughts of the dark, empty prison she knew lay just beneath them. But then there was Dipper, who was hardly engaging in the activities Mabel and Steven had planned as he instead leaned against the boat’s railing to stare out at the lake himself. Lapis took a break from “sunbathing” to join him, hoping to ask him more about what Steven and Mabel had only hinted at before. And yet, before she could get as much as a hello out, the aforementioned pair rushed over to pull them both back into more of the “fun” they had in store.
That next bout of fun was up on the bridge, namely in the form of the ship’s pull horn. Though Lapis didn’t understand the appeal at first, she quickly did upon giving it a small, experimental tug, only for the horn to loudly blare out, echoing across the entire lake. The blue Gem couldn’t help but be completely charmed by the rather grating noise, letting out a full, genuine laugh as she pulled on the horn over and over again, much to the kids’ delight and Stan and Greg’s chagrin. Even Dipper couldn’t help but muster a small, warm chuckle upon seeing just how much Lapis seemed to be enjoying herself through something so simple, even if it wasn’t the easiest on the ears.
After about an hour or so, the nearly-nonstop bellowing of the horn finally fell silent, a relieving change of pace for Stan and Greg in particular as they continued fishing off the far side of the boat. “Oh thank god, they finally stopped,” the conman let out a sigh of relief as he uncovered his ears. “I thought I was gonna go deaf. Well, even more deaf,” he said, tapping his hearing aid.
Greg let out an amused laugh at this, though as he did, he happened to notice Lapis and the kids coming down from the bridge to join them. “Oh, hey, you guys!” he greeted them with a smile. “Finally get enough of that horn?”
“...WHAT?!” Steven shouted obliviously, his ears still still blaring with the lingering noise of the horn.
“What are you doing?” Lapis asked, curiously eyeing the pairs’ fishing rods.
“Catching fish,” Greg explained, casting his line out into the water once more.
“Or at least we’re trying to,” Stan grumbled, boredly leaning against the railing. “Those suckers just aren’t biting today…”
“Oh, maybe I can help!” Lapis volunteered, her tone surprisingly eager. Taking in a deep breath, she easily connected with the body of water before her, calling upon a massive swath of it just below the surface. Everyone else watched in apt awe as she easily pulled that swath up, an immense mass of water rising up into the air just above them, one that encased more fish than they could have ever hoped to catch swimming inside.
“Whoa…” Dipper said, quite impressed. “Lapis, that’s amazing!”
The blue Gem practically beamed upon hearing this, more than happy to meet the bright smile he was sending her way. A smile that she unquestionably treasured, yet unfortunately hadn’t seen enough of today, as much as she wished she had.
“That’s a pretty… uh, fancy way of catching fish…” Greg noted with a bit of a nervous chuckle.
“Fancy?” Stan scoffed. “Pfft, some might call it overkill.”
“Grunkle Stan!” Mabel chastised, hoping that the conman’s rather callous remark didn’t offend the blue Gem.
“That’s ‘cause Lapis is supa strong!” Steven proclaimed with a dramatic flex.
“Well, uh… I appreciate the gesture,” Greg said, trying to be as tactful as he could. “But I-I think it would be safer to stick to the old-fashioned way of doing it…”
“Oh, uh… sure.” Flustered, Lapis was quick to pull her “catch” back down into the lake itself, creating a sizable wave in the process, one that shook the entire boat before the water settled itself back down. “So… how do you fish the old-fashioned way?”
“Oh, it’s pretty simple,” Greg reeled his line back in so he could demonstrate. “You start with a rod, and you put a hook at the end of your line. And then, when you feel a nibble, you reel it in. And there it is; you’ve caught yourself a fish to eat!”
“Or to sell if you manage to catch a peppermint angelfish or a freshwater polka dot stingray,” Stan piped up. “Those kinda puppies will land you the big bucks, whether you’re sellin’ em legally or not‒n-not that I would know.”
“But why would a fish ever bite a hook?” Lapis asked, confused.
“You got to bait it,” Greg said, reaching into his nearby tackle box. “Put something on it you know it wants, like a worm or a $20 bill.”
“Now that’s my kind of bait!” Stan grinned greedily.
“We’ll keep that in mind the next time we need to fish you out of a lake, Mr. Pines,” Greg chuckled alongside Steven and Mabel. At the same time, he cast his baited line out into the lake to properly show Lapis how fishing was usually done.
And like how fishing usually went, the group ended up waiting quite some time for even a nibble to become apparent. Stan had all but fallen asleep in his sunchair, his own fishing pole completely forgotten as Greg minded them both instead. Lapis and the kids lazily leaned against the boat’s railing, keeping an eye on the water, even if there was no sign of any sort of underlying fish to be found.
“So when does the fish part happen?” Lapis asked boredly.
“Well, sometimes it isn’t about the fish you keep, but the company you catch,” Greg said with a sly wink, though none of the others really caught his drift. At that exact moment, however, a sharp, sudden pull on his fishing pole caught the former rock star’s attention instead. “Whoa! I got a bite!” Greg tightened his grip on the fishing rod as whatever it had caught began to pull aggressively against it. “Lapis, here! Give it a try!” he offered the blue Gem the pole, and though she had her reservations, she took it.
“Like this?” she asked, starting to reel the line in.
“You got it!” Greg grinned as the kids crowded close to watch. “Looks like it’s a big one!”
Lapis set her focus on her rod as she continued to steadily reel it in, though whatever was on the hook quickly tugged hard on the line, abruptly yanking the blue Gem forward along with it. Lapis stumbled forward, but fortunately everyone else was quick to respond, calling out to her in concern as they hurried to help hold her steady so she could keep the struggle going.
“Y-You got this, Lapis!” Steven encouraged with a loud grunt as he and Mabel clung onto the straining blue Gem. “Reel it in!”
“It’s… pulling… so hard!” Lapis shouted, pulling back against the unseen fish or force that she was so, so close to landing. So very close to the surface, yet still so far away.
Just as Malachite had been all that time.
Lapis gasped just as the fishing rod suddenly snapped under the immense pressure completely. Its other half flew into the water as whatever it had caught got away, leaving everyone to run to the side of the boat to see if they could catch so much as even a glimpse of it. Lapis in particular kept a close eye on the lake as it calmed once more, her sudden panic starting to die down as she realized the only reflection she saw on the water was her own.
“Dang it, Greg!” Stan fussed as he finally awakened from his brief nap. “We weren’t supposed to break any of these!”
“Yeah…” Greg winced as he looked over the broken rod. “Looks like this pole rental just turned into a pole purchase. But, you did a great job tangling with that beast, Lapis.”
“Yeah! I totally thought you had it!” Mabel added, hands on her hips.
“B-but don’t worry about the one that got away,” Steven encouraged with a small smile.
Lapis simply returned their praise with a terse, unreadable nod as she realized that their party was now one short for some reason. Mostly since that missing one among them had quietly slipped away long before her fight against that unknown catch had even begun.
“Welp, that’s my adventure quota for the day,” Greg concluded as he began putting the tackle box away. “I’ll be at the controls. Holler if you need me.”
“And I’ll be raiding that cooler to see if there’s any of that fancy orange juice left,” Stan said as he also began to head out. “Fishing’s thirsty work; it’s got me parched.”
“But Grunkle Stan, you were just napping most of the time,” Mabel pointed out.
“Yeah, well napping’s thirsty work too.”
With the adults heading off to their own devices, Mabel and Steven were more than ready to keep their excitable plans for the day going, even if fishing had gone somewhat awry. “Ok, Lapis, what do you…” Steven trailed off as they both realized the blue Gem had also stepped away at some point. “Lapis?”
For her part, Lapis had returned to the main deck, where it didn’t take her very long to find Dipper. He sat on one of the lounge chairs, his chin perched against his hands as he silently watched the dark clouds that were starting to roll in over the lake. And as the blue Gem slowly came to take a seat alongside him, she noticed just how tense and apprehensive his expression really was. She had every reason to suspect why that was, and couldn’t help but feel guilty that she hadn’t done more to try and change that. Though still, she figured now was better late than never.
“Dipper?” Lapis spoke up, finally breaking him out of whatever thoughts he had been distracted by.
“Oh! Lapis!” he started, quickly turning to her as he put on a clearly fake smile. “H-how’d fishing go?”
“It… went…” the blue Gem glanced down. “Why’d you leave?”
“Ah, I-I… just wanted a little peace and quiet, is all,” Dipper said, offering an excuse Lapis could see right through the moment he said it.
“Oh,” she replied, though this time, she refused to simply leave it there. “Dipper, a-are… are you all right?”
“What?” Dipper blinked, caught off guard by the question. “Y-yeah, of course I’m all right. Why wouldn’t I be? Are you all right, Lapis?”
Lapis flinched, not wanting to face such an inquiry, especially as she accidentally stole another small glance toward the lake once more. “I-I… l-let’s focus on you instead,” she countered as evenly as she could. “You’ve been so quiet all day. I know something’s wrong-” she hesitated, not wanting to give specifics about how or what she knew just yet. “So… if you want to tell me about it, then I-”
“No!” Dipper said, a bit too fast and a bit too forcefully. “I-I… I mean, it’s… seriously nothing, Lapis. You don’t have to worry about it. It’s really not important.”
“It’s important to me,” Lapis said earnestly, knowing, practically feeling that he was lying to her. “If something’s bothering you, then… maybe there’s some I can help somehow. I want to help.”
For a moment, the most Dipper could do was look to her in disbelief before he shook his head almost bitterly. “Lapis, I-I appreciate it, but really, I don’t need any help. Besides, today isn’t supposed to be about me; this whole lake trip was supposed to be to help you.”
“B-but I don’t deserve help!” Lapis argued far more fiercely than she had meant to. “Everyone’s so worried about making me feel better, but we should be worrying about you! Especially after what you went through!”
“After what I-” Dipper stopped short at this, confused. “Lapis, what are you talking about?”
The blue Gem faltered at this, knowing that the last thing she wanted to do was openly bring up what was obviously such a painful memory, but she couldn’t help herself. He needed to know just how much he needed this. “T-the deal, Dipper! I’m talking about the deal you made with t-that… that Bill guy that almost got you killed!”
Dipper froze, completely taken aback, upon hearing Lapis mention that terrible deal. A deal he’d done all he could to keep her from finding out about ever since she returned, for more reasons than one. “W-what… h-how do you know about-”
Before he could even get another stunned word out, the entire boat was suddenly rocked as something seemed to crash hard into the side of it below the surface of the water. Just as the ship seemed to settle once more, it took another heavy hit, one that nearly knocked Dipper and Lapis off their feet completely as they wondered to themselves about what was happening.
Mabel and Steven wondered the same thing as they took a detour on their way back to the main deck to stop by the bride to check in with Stan and Greg. “I-is everything ok, First Mate Dad?” Steven asked, concerned.
“Shh!” Greg quieted, glancing up from the boat manual he’d been pouring over. “You hear that?”
The group paused to listen for any further disruption below the boat, but strangely, they were only met with silence on all sides. “Uh… no?” Mabel frowned, confused.
“Maybe whatever it was is gone now,” Steven theorized.
“Well, at least that’s one good thing,” Greg sighed. “I think something’s wrong with the boat.”
“Augh!” Stan growled, trying his hardest to move the boat’s otherwise stiff wheel. “Nope, something’s definitely wrong with the boat. The rudder won’t move for anything. Something down there must be throwing it off.”
Mabel let out a sharp, dramatic gasp at this. “Maybe it’s the Gobblewonker!”
“Or Mr. McGucket’s Gobblewonker robot!” Steven added just as zealously.
“Would you two pipe down?” Stan rolled his eyes as he began fiddling with the ship’s control panel. “It’s not a robot or some stupid lake monster. We probably just hit a rock or something. What’s that manual of yours have to say, Greg?”
“I-it’s really not any help,” the former rock star frowned as he flipped through the book. “It’s mostly just advice on sun tanning and what crackers go with caviar!”
“Well, what crackers go with caviar?” Steven asked.
“Water crackers!”
“Ayyyy!” the pair exclaimed, exchanging a set of wry, playful grins. The levity was immediately broken, however as the boat violently shook once more, this time accompanied by a small, yet prominent explosion from somewhere inside the ship itself. The group wasted no time in rushing down to the boat’s small engine room, though as soon as Greg pried open the hatch, thick, dark smoke immediately started pouring out from it.
“Oh, crud! The engine!” Greg exclaimed, distraught. “I-I don’t know anything about fixing an engine! Do you, Mr. Pines?”
“Er… I can take a swing at trying, but I can’t make any promises,” Stan said as he began looking over the busted engine. “But either way, we’re gonna be out here for a while…”
Mabel and Steven exchanged a fretful glance upon hearing this, but all the same, they left the pair to work on the engine so they could relay the unfortunate message to the boat’s other two passengers. In the aftermath of the explosion and how it shook but the boat once again, Lapis was in the midst of helping Dipper back up onto his feet, checking over him to make sure he was unharmed as Steven and Mabel arrived.
“Uh, guys?” the young Gem spoke up. “We have some… not-so-great news. There’s trouble with the engine and… it looks like we’re stuck out here for now…”
“Great…” Dipper muttered as Lapis let out a low, disappointed sigh. “As if anything else could go wrong today…”
“W-well, let’s try to look on the bright side!” Mabel chimed in. “At least it’s not raining!” Almost at that exact moment, however, raindrops began sprinkling down from the dark, dreary skies above, growing more steady with each passing second. “...How did I do that…?” Mabel wondered, amazed by her apt timing.
“I-I’m sorry!” Steven professed to Lapis in particular. “This whole thing is our fault! We just wanted you to have fun, but everything’s turned into a mess. We shouldn’t have made you come on this trip…”
“No,” Lapis spoke up, her tone cold as she turned to face the side of the ship. “It’s my fault. I’m the one to blame.”
“What?” the young Gem shook his head. “No, it’s not-”
“I’m really trying to enjoy it out here, but… I can’t stop thinking about being fused as Malachite,” Lapis confessed, not even noticing Dipper tense up beside her at the mere mention of the twisted fusion. “How I used all my strength to hold her down in the lake, and how I was always battling against Jasper to keep her bound to me…”
“Lapis…” Steven began, though Dipper was quick to interject before he could say anything else.
“W-what does any of that even matter anymore?!” he countered harshly, clearly agitated by the mere discussion alone. “That’s all over now! Malachite’s gone. You don’t have to be with Jasper ever again!”
“T-that’s not it…” Lapis said quietly, shame filling her expression as she finally glanced back at the kids behind her to reveal the horrible truth. “I… I miss her…”
“What?!” All three of the kids exclaimed, shocked by the very thought.
“W-we were fused for so long…” the blue Gem practically whispered, shaken as she wrapped her arms around herself tightly.
“But… she’s terrible!” Steven protested anxiously.
“I’m terrible!” Lapis argued, fully turning to the trio. “I did horrible things! I left Ford behind on Homeworld! I stole the lake! Go on! Tell me I’m wrong!”
Steven and Mabel were more than prepared to try and do exactly that, but once again, Dipper beat them both to the chase on a seemingly different tangent entirely. “You miss her…” he began, letting out a bitter scoff as he did. “Even after everything she put you through, after everything she did?! After everything I did to try to help you?!”
“Dipper-” Lapis tried to counter, though he was far too incensed to back down now.
“I know what you went through was awful, I get that. But you have no idea what I put myself through to just to get you back!” he practically shouted, outraged that she’d make light of all the sacrifices he’d made by so much as hinting that she wanted to go back to what he’d only barely managed to help rescue her from. “I was ready to do nothing else but sit on the shore for the rest of the summer waiting for you! I stayed awake for nights on end trying to figure out a way to help you! I risked my life several times against Malachite and you did basically nothing to stop her! And worst of all, you asked me about that deal I made with Bill earlier? Well, you wanna know why I even did that in the first place?”
“Dipper, stop-” Mabel tried to interject, especially as she noticed the growing, fearful alarm in Lapis’ eyes brought on by his outburst. Yet even so, he kept going with the truth he could no longer keep buried under the surface, even for as horrible as it was.
“For you, Lapis!” he finished, tears starting to brim in his eyes even against his immense fury. “I nearly lost my body, my life‒all because I wanted to save you! And what do you want, even after all that? To go back to being with Jasper, back to being Malachite, like the rest of us‒like I don’t even matter!”
For a moment, the most Lapis could do in response to such a harsh accusation was remorsefully accept it, largely because she had no idea how to argue against it. Because really, if all that was indeed true, if Dipper really had almost lost so much in a last-ditch effort to help her, then that was just another reason--perhaps the very worst of all--on the already substantial list as to why she didn’t deserve any sort of kindness or support at all after every terrible thing she’d done.
Once again, Steven and Mabel wanted to speak up to try and ease the heavily palpable tension between the pair, yet before they could, that tension was broken altogether by the boat heavily jolting once more. This time, however, the steady tremors didn’t stop as something heavy latched onto the ship’s anchor chain, lurching the entire vessel to the side as something, or rather someone, began to climb up it. For a few breathless, uncertain seconds, the group on board glanced around frantically, unsure of what was happening. That is, until that someone finally reached the deck itself, the last Gem any of them could have expected--or wanted--to see: Jasper.
The orange Gem easily heaved herself onto the boat, ignoring the shared gasps of shock from everyone else as she rose to properly stand, a wide, almost demented grin spread across her face as she set her sights on Lapis in particular. “Finally,” she said, a burst of heavy thunder crashing over the lake at the exact same time. “I thought I’d never catch up to you!”
“J-Jasper…” Lapis barely managed to choke, though at the same time, she instinctively held a protective arm in front of the trio of kids behind her. “You… you’ve been following us?”
“I’ve been following you,” Jasper’s menacing grin deepened as she took a bold step forward.
Lapis flinched back in apt fear at this, though Steven was the first to step forward, his shield already formed over his arm. “Stay back!” he shouted bravely as he came to stand between the two Gems. Likewise, Mabel brazenly joined him, even without her grappling hook (which she hadn’t brought along on the trip) in hand. Dipper, on the other hand, hung back behind Lapis, taking a small step backward as he watched the frightening situation unfold carefully, quietly. Just out of Jasper’s notice all the while.
For her part, Jasper let out a twisted, amused laugh as she glanced down at the young pair before her haughtily. “This dulled-down version of Rose Quartz works for you now? Along with one of her dumb human pets?” she sneered callously as she nodded back up to Lapis. “You’re pointing that shield the wrong way. She’s the one you should be afraid of.”
“T-that’s not true,” Lapis tried to protest, though there was no conviction behind her words.
“You can’t lie to me,” Jasper asserted. “I’ve seen what you’re capable of. I thought I was a brute, but you… you’re a monster.”
Lapis froze, terror filling her entire form, though it was hardly aimed at Jasper. Instead, it was fear reserved solely for herself, for what she knew she could do, what she had done. Fear that what the orange Gem had just said was true; that she really was a monster after all. “I-I…”  she trailed off, unsure of how to argue against that blatant truth. Even if Steven and Mabel were more than ready to do that for her.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about!” Mabel defended, resolute.
“Yeah! Lapis doesn’t want anything to do with you!” Steven added just as firmly as he held his shield steady.
Jasper let out a severe, aggravated growl at this show of resistance, one that she didn’t hesitate to remove from her path through sheer force alone. “This is between US!” she shouted, brutally lashing out at the pair. Fortunately, Steven’s shield took the brunt of the heavy blow, but it was still enough to send them both flying across the deck, resulting in them roughly landing quite a ways behind the orange Gem.
“Steven! Mabel!” Lapis anxiously called, aptly alarmed. Likewise, Dipper nearly made his first move to join the confrontation, though he stopped short upon seeing that Steven and Mabel were largely fine, if not a bit disoriented from the attack.
At the same time, Jasper stopped Lapis in her tracks, tightly grabbing her by the wrist with both hands as she fell to her knees before the blue Gem. And then, she looked up to her manically, almost desperately even as she made her horrific proposal. “Let’s be Malachite again!”
Needless to say, Lapis was completely caught off guard by such a bizarre, demented request as she practically felt the orange Gem’s obvious madness from the tightness of her clinging grip alone. “Why… why would you want that?!” she dared to ask, unable to imagine why anyone would willingly, eagerly desire to go back to being chained down and trapped like Jasper had been with her.
“I was wrong about fusion!” the orange Gem professed with an unhinged smile. “You made me understand! Malachite was bigger and stronger than both of us! We could fly!”
“L-Lapis!” Steven shouted as he began to help Mabel back up. “Don’t listen to her!”
“Stay out of this!” Jasper barked back at him as she stood once more.
At the same time, Lapis shook her head incredulously, her thoughts racing far too fast for her to even try to keep up with any of them. “I… I was terrible to you…” she began, her voice shaking just as much as her entire body was. “I liked taking everything out on you. I needed to‒I hated you! Malachite hated existing so much! It was bad!”
“I-it’ll be better this time!” Jasper argued, taking her hands once more, even as she tried to pull them away. “I’ve changed! You’ve changed me! I’m the only one who can handle your kind of power! Together, we’ll be unstoppable!”
Somewhere in the distance, thunder echoed off the lake once more, though Lapis barely heard it as she let Jasper take her hands once more. Time seemed to slow to a crawl as everything else grew hazy and distant, save for the orange Gem and what she was trying to promise her, what she was trying to get from her. And for the briefest of moments, that offer, that plea, almost sounded tantalizing. Because if Jasper was right about anything, it was that Malachite was powerful, that she had felt powerful while they were together. That, for the first time in centuries of being trapped and lost and alone, she had felt strong, she had felt like she had actually been in control of something, even if that something was a twisted, self-loathing mess of a fusion. It was an appeasing kind of control, even if it came at the expense of someone else and even herself. And for the briefest, tiniest of moments, she honestly considered taking that control for herself once more.
And yet…
“And what do you want, even after all that?” Dipper had asked her just moments ago, tears in his eyes and anger in his voice. Anger that made complete and perfect sense, all things considered. “To go back to being with Jasper, back to being Malachite, like the rest of us‒like I don’t even matter!”
Is that what she wanted? Did she really want to tear herself away from people who she genuinely cared about, who cared about her in return‒people like Dipper and Mabel and Steven‒just to go back to someone she unquestionably, deeply hated like Jasper? Was whatever kind of demented control she had as Malachite really worth it to betray their trust, to turn away from their kindness, to do the very thing Dipper had accused her of by making his own sacrifices for her completely meaningless in the end?
All it took was the smallest of glances at Steven and Mabel far ahead of her, and perhaps most importantly of all, the most discreet look at Dipper still standing behind her, for Lapis to make the choice she knew she’d always stand by from here on out. Because she knew, above all else, what truly mattered to  her most of all.
“No!” she exclaimed firmly, tearing her hands out of Jasper’s as she glared up at her bravely.
“What?” Jasper hissed, narrowing her eyes down at the blue Gem.
“What we had wasn’t healthy!” Lapis said, resolved and unshaken. “I never want to feel like I felt with you. Never again! So just go!”
“But Lapis!” Jasper tried to argue, though she didn’t get very far before someone else stepped in between her and the blue Gem instead.
“She said no,” Dipper began coldly, sending a relentless glare up at the much larger orange Gem as he came to stand protectively in front of Lapis. “So leave her alone!”
“Dipper… I…” Lapis trailed off, unsure of what to say. Yet even so, Dipper briefly glanced back at her with a small, assuring smile, one that carried the promise that he was on her side, no matter what happened.
Briefly, genuine surprise filled Jasper’s expression at this intrusion, until sharp, sweeping rage rushed in to take the place of that surprise instead. “You again…” she growled hatefully, recognizing the continually interloping human before her immediately. “You always have to come to her rescue, don’t you? You may have ruined Malachite for me before, but I’m not about to let you take her away from me this time!”
In an instant, Jasper latched out, though this time, it wasn’t toward Lapis. Instead, she abruptly grabbed Dipper by the arm and roughly yanked him toward her, pulling him out of Lapis’ reach even as she made a panicked, yet failed attempt at saving him. Of course, from the very moment Jasper latched onto him, Dipper began struggling against her heavy hold, though all his attempts to pull away and free himself did little against the orange Gem’s immense strength as she found a way to turn the tables on Lapis completely. “Listen, Lapis, you “care” about this human, right?” she asked, sending a disgusted, disgruntled nod down at Dipper as he beat against her arm with his free hand as hard as he could. An effort that she easily ignored, despite how desperate it was.
“L-leave him alone!” Lapis begged, her hands held up in tight, shaking fists as she looked between Dipper and Jasper anxiously. “Please, Jasper, this is just between you and me. He isn’t part of this. Let him go!”
“I’d say he is part of this since he’s the reason you even agreed to fuse with me in the first place! And he’s gonna be the reason why we fuse again,” Jasper retorted, tightening her grip on Dipper’s arm to the point that it felt like it was going to snap right in two. Lapis winced as she heard him let out a small, involuntary cry of pain, one that shook her to her very core, especially as Jasper continued her cruel demands. “Either you form Malachite with me right here, right now, or…”
“O-or what?” Lapis practically whispered, her eyes wide with terror all the while.
“Or I take your precious human here somewhere you’ll never be able to find him,” Jasper finished, her tone deadly serious.
“Dipper!” Steven and Mabel both exclaimed, aptly horrified upon hearing this. Without hesitation, they both acted on the same beat, joining hands as they prepared to form Maven so they could take Jasper head-on and save him. And yet, just before they could, Dipper managed to glance back at them, the fear in his expression obvious, though something else was there too. A certain sort of steadiness that came paired with him putting a silent hand up to stop them, almost as if he was sending them the unspoken message that he had a plan. Which, by all accounts, he did, especially as he noticed one of the decorative swords that had fallen by the wayside earlier lying on the ground just a few feet away from him.
“I… you… you can’t do that to him!” Lapis shouted at Jasper, furious yet deeply afraid all at the same time.
“I can, and I will,” Jasper coldly assured. “It’s either gonna be you, Lapis, or your human. Your choice.”
By this point, Lapis was nearly on the verge of tears as she glanced down mournfully. Because without even thinking twice, she knew what she had to do. She had already made the choice against becoming Malachite again on her own volition, out of her own desire to. But if it was for Dipper, if it could keep him safe now just as she had once thought it had before, then she would gladly, readily make that choice to give up her freedom again for him. For him, she’d do just about anything.
“O-ok…” Lapis whispered softly, sadly, as she prepared to return to the prison she’d hoped she’d never see again. “I… I’ll fuse with you.”
“Perfect,” Jasper said with a beaming, leering grin. Lapis simply closed her eyes as Jasper extended her free hand out to her once more, and yet just before it could reach the blue Gem, her approach was brought to a literal swift stop.
It happened in an instant so quick that Jasper didn’t even catch it until after it happened. A blade that was otherwise completely dull came down on her hand with such a great amount of force behind it that it sliced through her wrist completely. Her hand instantly vanished into particles of the light her form was composed of, and as she let out a startled gasp by the unexpected amputation, her other hand just so happened to release its firm hold on her captive that had done this to her in the first place.
Jasper only briefly paid any attention to her now stub of a wrist as she instead noticed Dipper, now free and armed with one of the decorative swords, taking his place between her and Lapis once more. The orange Gem glared daggers down at him, but Dipper met her ire evenly with his blade in hand, ready to use it in an instant if need be. “You will never, ever fuse with Lapis again,” he told her, his tone icy and unyielding. “Not as long as I’m around to help her.”
Jasper let out a loud, infuriated shout at this, her helmet forming over her head as she easily reformed her missing hand. “Then I guess that means it’s time to get rid of you ONCE AND FOR ALL!” she yelled, raising her head to bring down a vicious attack. Yet it was one that never landed, even though Dipper was brazely ready to face. For instead, at that very moment, Lapis reacted to rush to his rescue instead, throwing her hand up swiftly into the air. Along with the movement, a massive, powerful fist of water also burst through the boat itself, breaking through the boards just under the orange Gem’s feet before striking her hard. The incredible force of the blow was more than enough to send Jasper flying, not just off of the boat, but away from the lake entirely as she was helplessly flung far away into the surrounding forest. Her threatening presence gone for now, but hardly forgotten.
In the immediate, newfound peace that followed, Dipper let out the breath he hadn’t even realized he’d been holding in as he lowered his sword and turned to Lapis with a small, relieved smile. “Lapis, that was-”
She immediately cut him off as she swiftly pulled him into a tight, protective embrace, her form still trembling with remnant terror as she rushed to check over him. “Are you ok? Did she hurt you?” she asked him frantically, holding his face in her hands so she could inspect it for any sort of injuries.
“N-no, I… I’m fine,” he assured her, placing a comforting hand against her arm. Lapis responded by loosening her grip on him, letting out a small, tired sigh though she hardly returned his allayed smile.
“Dipper!” Almost out of nowhere, the pair was caught off guard as Mabel suddenly crashed into Dipper, wrapping him up in a tight, elated hug. “What you just did was totally awesome! I mean, cutting off Jasper’s hand? That was like the most metal thing I think you’ve ever done, bro-bro!”
“Heh, thanks,” Dipper chuckled somewhat bashfully.
“And Lapis, you were amazing too!” Steven chimed in brightly, beaming at the blue Gem. “The way you stood up to Jasper was so brave! Not to mention how you sent her packing at the end there.”
“Yeah…” Lapis frowned, glancing away in shame. “Brave…”
“I-is everyone all right?!” Greg called as he and Stan turned the corner to arrive on the main deck. They were quickly met with a surprising sight, however, as they noticed the gaping hole in the center of the vessel, one that was quickly causing it to sink lower and lower into the water with each passing second.
“Geez, I probably could have fixed the engine in like, an hour or two,” Stan remarked, hands on his hips. “You kids didn’t have to go and just trash the thing like this.”
“W-wha… what happened?” Greg asked, aptly distraught by the irreparable damage.
“Uh… It’s… kind of a long story,” Steven said, leading the way to the highest edge of the boat. Lapis was quick to create another large hand of solid water, one that most everyone was easily able to fit on for the ride back to shore. The blue Gem stopped Dipper short of hopping on it however, as she instead silently offered him a different mode of transportation as she summoned her aquatic wings instead. He took the hint and climbed on her back, holding on as she took flight and guided the watery hand she’d made for the others across the lake, leaving the now abandoned, defunct vessel behind as it sunk into the water entirely.
“I guess I bought a boat after all,” Greg sighed as he watched the boat disappear below the depths.
“Yeah, one you can’t even use,” Stan remarked. “What a ripoff! Oh well, at least I managed to snag the treasure chest-shaped cooler on our way out.” He grinned, holding up said cooler for everyone to see.
“Ooo, well that’s better than nothing, right, Dad?” Steven said with a small grin.
“Yeah… I guess it is,” Greg agreed, fondly ruffling his son’s hair.
It didn’t take long for Lapis to get everyone safely back to the dock they’d started from, though instead of landing upon it herself, she instead took flight once more with Dipper in tow. “Huh, I wonder where they’re going,” Mabel said as she watched them take to the skies. “Maybe we should follow them? Just to make sure they’re ok?”
“...I think they’ll be fine,” Steven assured, keeping his sights set on the pair as well. “Looks like they just need some time to themselves.”
At the same time, Dipper couldn’t help but glance back at the dock they were leaving behind from his spot on Lapis’ back. Instead, she seemed to be taking him up toward the falls above the lake, something that couldn’t help but confuse him given her relative silence since the boat had sunk. “Lapis, what’s going on? Where are we going?” he finally asked her a moment later.
“...We need to talk,” was all the blue Gem said as she kept going, not even bothering to so much as even look back at him. The rest of the flight was steeped in silence on both sides, even as they arrived at the top of the waterfall cliff. Yet almost as soon as Lapis set Dipper down on solid ground, that silence swiftly, suddenly came to an end.
The moment Lapis landed, she was quick to turn to face him, her manner and tone quite severe, even though the underlying hints of fear and worry were clear in both as she spoke adamantly. “What in the world were you thinking, Dipper?” she asked. “What you did back there… Standing up to Jasper like that… you could have gotten yourself killed!”
“W-what was I thinking?” Dipper countered in disbelief at such a question. “I was thinking about how I was willing to do whatever I had to to keep you from fusing with her again! You’d already told her no, but then, when she threatened me, it was like suddenly none of that even mattered anymore!”
“It didn’t matter!” Lapis shot back fiercely. “Why don’t you understand that all that matters to me is keeping you safe?! Why else do you think I even fused with her in the first place?!”
“Oh, so what Jasper said is true, then?” he countered angrily. “The only reason you became Malachite to begin with was because of me, right?!”
“Ye--no!” she quickly corrected herself. “No, of course that’s not true! I… I just…” she sighed, bitterly. “I fused with Jasper because I thought it was the only way I could keep her as far away from you as possible. That’s why I was ready to do the same thing again today. I… I don’t want you to get hurt; I never wanted that…”
“Well, it’s way too late for that,” he scoffed coldly, crossing his arms as he turned away from. “When you fused with her, when you trapped yourself at the bottom of the lake, it did hurt me…” He paused, shaking his head remorsefully as he tried his hardest to fight back tears. “It hurt me so, so much because I knew, right from the very beginning, that it was all my fault. You were gone, a-and I missed you, and you were just down there suffering non-stop and… and I couldn’t do anything to help you. A-and every time I tried… I… things always just got even worse…”
For what seemed like ages, Lapis was silent as she watched Dipper take a solemn seat on the edge of the cliff. Not knowing what else to do, she joined him, waiting an hesitant moment or two before posing a question she knew she shouldn’t even ask. “W-what actually happened?” she began slowly. “W-with that Bill guy, I mean. Steven and Mabel told me a little, a-about how he tricked you into making a deal to help me, but… I don’t know much else outside of that.”
Dipper let out a long, weary sigh, placing his face in his hands as he finally decided to come clean. “It was stupid…” he muttered crossly. “I was stupid. He promised he’d help me figure out a way to save you in exchange for a puppet. But what he didn’t tell me was that I was actually the puppet he had in mind. So he stole my body, took it for a joy ride, intentionally hurt it--practically killed it, and nearly did the same to Mabel and Steven too until they barely managed to kick him out of it so I could take it back. But even then, i-it’s taken me a really long time to recover, both inside and out. Sometimes I wonder if I ever really will at all”
Lapis didn’t initially say a word in response to this tale of incredible woe as she let it sink in, along with the heavy wave of guilt that came along with it. “Y-you… went through all of that… because of me…” she said, her voice barely a whisper, though it was heavy with shame all the same.
“N-no, Lapis, I… I shouldn’t have said that earlier,” Dipper quickly countered. “I-I didn’t mean it, I was just upset-”
“And you have every right to be!” Lapis interrupted sharply. “You were right, Dipper; you did so much to try and help me, a-and what did I do? I nearly went and fused with Jasper all over again like it was nothing!”
“But you were going to do it for me,” he retorted firmly. “And that’s not nothing.” Unsure of what else to say, he sighed once more, lying back to lay in the grass as his feet dangled over the edge of the cliff. It didn’t take Lapis to join him, and for a long, quiet, almost peaceful moment, the pair rested in silence, watching as the stormy clouds above began to clear out for sunny skies once more. “Isn’t that messed up?” Dipper finally said with a small, yet bittersweet laugh. “How we both put ourselves through something so terrible just so we could try to help each other?”
“Yeah…” Lapis muttered fretfully. “It is…”
“Maybe… maybe that’s not how this is supposed to be,” Dipper continued, his tone sincere. “There’s gotta be better ways to protect your friends out there than losing your body to a psychotic demon or trapping yourself in an unstable fusion deep below a lake.”
“Well, if there is, I’d love to hear it,” the blue Gem remarked as she rested her hands behind her head.
“...Sword fighting was what helped me,” Dipper said as he sat up once more. “It gave me a better way to keep the people I care about safe, a-and best of all, it finally helped me feel safe again when I wasn’t sure if I ever world. So… maybe we just need to find something like that for you too.”
“We could always start with fishing,” Lapis joked, eliciting a small, warm laugh from Dipper that she couldn’t help but join in on. Once the beat of much-needed levity passed, however, there were still hints of worry lingering in the air between them.
“Lapis…” Dipper began earnestly. “Are you alright after… well, everything?”
“Yeah,” the blue Gem nodded as she properly sat up herself. “I think I’ll be ok. What about you? Steven and Mabel mentioned something about you having… ‘nightmares’?”
“Oh, those…” Dipper frowned, wishing that the pair hadn’t been so presumptive, even if they were correct. “They’re just… I-I… I don’t know where they’re coming from. I mean, Bill is a dream demon so I guess it makes sense that he keeps showing up in my dreams, but, it’s not like he can really do anything since Grunkle Ford and I put that barrier up to keep him from getting into the shack. Still, I-I don’t know, it’s just… weird. Nobody’s even heard anything from Bill in a really long time and now suddenly, right out of nowhere, he keeps popping up in my nightmares again when he hasn’t in weeks? I know I’m probably wrong‒I hope I’m wrong, but… I can’t help but feel like something really… bad is about to happen soon…”
“Well, if this ‘Bill Cipher’ does show up trying to hurt you again,” Lapis began with a hint of firm resolve in her tone. “Then you better believe I’ll make sure he never gets the chance to again. He won’t mess with you again, not as long as I’m around.”
Dipper couldn’t help but smile upon hearing this, knowing that this comforting promise essentially echoed his own to the blue Gem. And perhaps, if the need ever arose again, then they could both find better ways to keep those promises than they had before, in the hopes that they would never need to be so cruelly separated as they’d been before ever again.
A beat of gentle, contented silence passed between the pair just as the late afternoon sun started to set beyond the distant cliffs. It cast a bright, almost golden glow upon the waters of the lake far below them, a lake that had once been a place of such strife for them both, but now, only seemed to radiate peace and tranquility instead. “You know,” Dipper said with a soft, easy smile as he enjoyed the view. “The lake really is beautiful from up here.”
“Yeah,” Lapis earnestly agreed as she gently, affectionately ruffled his hair. She had no doubts she’d always treasure moments like these, because even if they’d been so hard fought for by sacrifices and guilt and grief on both of their ends, they were moments they’d finally managed to somehow win at long, long last. “It is.”

Thao Nguyen Doesn’t Stay Down

When I first listened to the title track off Thao & the Get Down Stay Down’s fifth album, Temple, I immediately hit repeat. After I finished listening to it the second time, I hit repeat again. And then again. And then again. I had a teenage urge to learn all the lyrics, so I could sing along at the top of my voice while cruising down the road. The song describes the pain of losing a home to war, an experience many of us haven’t lived through in America, and yet I still felt a deep personal connection with the song’s powerful message. Perhaps because this country is currently facing such extreme civil unrest, so the thought of experiencing war firsthand is increasingly becoming more real. But the song also touches on the turmoil we can sometimes feel in our own family lives as well. Thao Nguyen seems to be a master at crafting albums that exquisitely make complicated and painful matters a bit easier to bear.
Thao recently won a Sunny Award by CBS Sunday Morning (my most favorite of all morning shows) for the music video to her song “Phenom.” Not only is the video wildly creative and entertaining, it conveys an intergenerational rage that’s finally being collectively realized. It’s the rage of someone who has discovered it’s okay to feel sick of constantly being at the bottom of the ladder, and the message should strike fear in the hearts of corrupt politicians everywhere.
As if a timeless and timely new album and an award winning music video weren’t enough, I was triply astounded after watching the documentary Nobody Dies (available to stream Sat., Oct. 10), which follows Thao on a journey with her mom to Vietnam. The trip was Thao’s first visit to Vietnam, and her mom’s first time back since fleeing the country in 1973. It was a chance for Thao to see her mother in an environment where she wasn’t defined by being a refugee, as she often is in America. In both the documentary and the album, Thao paints a picture we don’t often see in American popular culture: the perspective of a child whose parents have lived through and escaped war.
Mossy: I watched your documentary, and it was such a beautiful tribute to your mom. Is there anything about your mother’s life and experiences that really stand out for you, that you think Americans could learn from?
TN: When I wrote Temple, it was because I wanted to offer a different narrative and rendering of someone who experienced war, and the idea of what a refugee is. And obviously in recent years, maybe throughout American history, how refugees have been reduced and the narrative that has been relayed. I think it’s really important to remember that there’s a distinction between an immigrant and a refugee. And also that someone is not just defined by this war that happened to them and their country. I think that’s why Temple was so important for me. I really wanted to capture my mom’s life before, after, and during; and just help enrich that community. I was raised in Virginia, and growing up, it was so stark the way people treated (refugees). I think that parents that are refugees or immigrants witness a lot of incredibly unfortunate encounters, where their dignity is dismissed. You watch your parents be dehumanized in either casual ways, or really serious ways. So this was one of my efforts to address and make peace with that.
Mossy: When I was watching your documentary I found myself smiling. And then I got to the story about your dad and I just started bawling. What parallels do you see between your father and the patriarchy at large?
TN: That’s an interesting question. My record before this one was about my dad. It’s called A Man Alive, and it’s just about our nonexistent relationship and all the bullshit. But what I started to understand when I was making that record, was just a facet of what it is to be emasculated in American society. And what that means for the families of the men who are emasculated. And I think that you see that a lot, especially in immigrant and refugee homes. And others, I mean, I’m only speaking from my experience. But what does a man do to assert power when he feels as though he’s denied power in society? I think it becomes a really personal and intimate, familial problem. And you know, it helps me understand his experience and what unresolved trauma that basically debilitates him, and renders him an irresponsible, reckless person. Patriarchy in general…I do think so much of it is people not knowing how to grapple with the expectations of masculinity. I could go on. (Laughs) I’ll just say it’s so detrimental in every direction, because if you’re not masculine enough, you will pay and then someone else will pay. And if you feel as though you’re  not respected enough, then the ways that men feel pressured to illicit that respect in our society is so deadly.
Mossy: You said in the documentary that when you went back to Vietnam, it helped you understand your dad’s temperament. That you understood it…but you didn’t. It’s like saying, “I do understand where you’re coming from and I empathize, but I don’t accept how you’re treating me because of it.” Which I feel is kind of where true healing from trauma can begin. How else do you deal with trauma?
TN: Well there have been different waves of awareness and lack of awareness of what I needed to be doing. I mean, I’ve done the typical things like drinking. (Laughs) I think touring helped. I’ve spent the majority of my adult life on tour, and it’s a refuge. But it also allows you to not deal with anything for a really long time. You could go your whole life without dealing with things. Of course, songwriting and making music. And really wanting to go there lyrically by being more specific with lyrics. Okay, and then therapy. But as far as music is concerned, I think it’s been really helpful to have these songs and talk about them, even under the auspice of promotion. But it’s also just connecting with people and talking about the songs. These levels of vulnerability make for a lot more humane experience. When we play live shows , if people get a chance, they’ll come up and tell me what a song has meant. And it really is so heartening and gratifying, and part of the healing.
Mossy: So you’re saying drinking didn’t work?!
TN: (Laughs) I still do it, so I’m not saying it doesn’t. Just don’t go crazy!

Mossy: You have such a wonderful vocabulary, so I’m guessing you like to read. Who are you favorite authors?
TN: Thanks for saying that. Writing and reading favorite authors are how I prepare the albums and the songs. And when I’m writing songs, I never listen to music, and I only read. But I love, oh man, I grew up reading Toni Morrison and her way with language and the vivid pictures she paints and the way she renders people. Grace Paley is another writer who’s style I love. Marilynne Robinson. George Saunders. I typically am drawn to contemporary literature. And now there’s a lot of reading to be done to learn about how America has become what it is. And to that end, Octavia Butler and James Baldwin really influenced the writing of this record.
Mossy: So you’re like Kurt Cobain over here, writing songs inspired by literature.
TN: (Laughs) I wish I had a cool sweater.
Mossy: Ah, he had the best sweaters.
TN: He had the best sweaters.
Mossy: I saw on your Instagram that you support women prisoners and Critical Resistance. Why are you specifically interested in these causes?
TN: With the California Coalition of Women Prisoners, I’ve been involved with them since 2013. Originally it was because a housemate of mine was an amazing organizer, and has been with them for years. And I was home from tour for awhile and he asked me to join this advocacy group, where we went in to prisons and visited, and we were part of a legal advocacy team. So the album, We the Common is entirely about and in tribute to these people who live inside, and this organization.
Mossy: Do you need to have a law degree to do that? I wanna do that!
TN: (Laughs) You totally can! No you don’t have to have a law degree. So the people like my friend…they don’t officially have a law degree. They just know so much about the system, because they’re constantly trying to help people figure out their parole, and how to get their face back in front of a judge. So we went in conjunction with a lawyer. We were just a team that was basically working with a pro-bono lawyer.
Mossy: You mentioned connection and live performance in your documentary. How do you think the musical performance landscape is going to change since the pandemic?
TN: I don’t know what’s going to happen to the venues as they exist now. I don’t know what kind of modifications or concessions they’ll have to make. So I do think that there will be more unconventional and nontraditional venues that come up by the time we’re ready for crowds to gather. And I think there will be more multi-use spaces and art institutions and contemporary art museums. More of those kind of hybrid events. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the rock clubs. It’s so sad. But I do think that we were barreling towards a reckoning. And I liken the music industry to the restaurant industry in a lot of ways…how thin the margin is for survival. And I think people will play smaller shows, because they can happen more quickly. And I think there’s going to be a lot more direct to fan engagement. And those who have a preexisting fan base will lean more into those fans, and be less concerned with expanding.
Mossy: It’s almost like what’s happening in the music industry is symbolic of what needs to happen everywhere. More localizing and community building.
TN: Totally. And I think Bandcamp is going to take an even stronger role as leaders of a more ethical model. I think what’s happening right now with streaming services is, ah, (laughs) unbearable.

This is Shari. My person. @herschelsmother She is everything listed in this obituary and so much more. She loved BLUE things and purple smells. She loved tiny rodents and possums and raccoons and sloths. We shared a mutual love of food: cheese, fried things, more cheese, good burgers, blue cheese, snow cones, ice cream, chinese food, taco bell...she LOVED food. Anything with salted caramel was in her wheelhouse and she was known the world over for her healing chocolate chip cookies. She was always well-prepared before we went to (or ordered delivery from) a new restaurant because she scoped out the menu days, weeks, even months in advance.
Shari was a reader and a writer as well as an unabashed consumer of all things television and movies. The X-Files, Friends, Friday Night Lights, Stranger Things, Downton Abbey (she missed the movie 😭), The Big Bang Theory, Greys Anatomy, Veronica Mars, MASH... we could talk about TV for ages. We did, as a matter of fact. For 20+ years. We shared a netflix account and a vudu account and were constantly dragging each other into our newest obsessions.
Contrary to her own belief, Shari was incredibly talented. For a while she made jewelry (who remembers "Beady-Eyed Designs"?) and then she moved onto card-making, a passion she passed on to me with a good amount of her card-making "stuff". Anybody who has been friends with her for more than a minute also knows about those gorgeous CAKES she made. She was her worst critic, often claiming they weren't that great. Shari wasn't often wrong about much, but she was wrong about her talent. She had it in spades.
Shari was FUNNY. Whip-smart, blazingly funny. She had a giggle that was absolutely infections and I have laughed harder with her than I have laughed with anyone ever on the planet. And more often than not, we were laughing about something stupid, juvenile and probably not all that funny in the first place. "Plunk your magic twanger, frooooogggyyy!"
Shari was Southern. She identified deeply with her southern roots (but she also wanted every Confederate monument removed so jot that down.) She thought Pig BBQ was superior, she taught me to make Fluffy Green Stuff and Pretzel Torte, and her "bless your heart" was at the same time the most lovely and cutting thing she could say.
Shari loved her people. She spent a lot of time thinking about, worrying about and doting on the (many many) friends she had made in her life. For many of you XF peeps, she was ALWAYS telling me about you, your dogs, your children. You were in her heart and her mind all the time. She mostly had to refer to you as your screen name so I knew who she was talking about, but I feel I know you all beyond the fic because she loved you so much.
Shari was a fighter. Her body tried to keep her down but she wasn't about to let it. But she also didn't keep quiet about injustice, unfairness, and dirty dealings. I'm devastated that she didn't get to see the first woman president and that she had to leave us while that tangerine turdsicle (I'm just using her phrasing here, people) was still in office.
One of her favorite past-times was getting those "Your windows computer is infected" Spam phone calls and toying with them until they hung up. Once someone told her she didn't have a penis and she was a lady-man. Good grief, how we laughed.
She LOVED her niece and nephew. R was her sweet baby and H was her baking partner in crime. I ache to know that they will miss out on having their Aunt Shari around while they grow up, especially H who had such an amazing female role model in her.
We often joked about sharing a brain but I don't know how much of that was really a joke. We just KNEW each other. KNEW each other in a way you don't find very often. We often texted each other the same thing at the same time. And by "often" I mean daily. And, sadly, that means the day she passed I also KNEW she was telling me goodbye. I could feel it, I knew it, and it terrified me as much as it comforted me.
We talked every day. All day. Every day. For 20+ years. She knew everything about me, every hope and fear and harbored resentment. And I believe I knew her heart just as well. And that was the most amazing part of our friendship - to know someone KNOWS YOU - even the parts you're not sure you like about yourself - and loves you wholly.
Shari loved God. Not in a way that meant she judged people, but in the way that meant she LOVED people. She had the kind of strong Faith that meant she had an open mind and an open heart, and she didn't believe it was her place or her job to be anything other than kind, loving and gracious. She embodied faith and God and Christ in everything she did and she did it so effortlessly that those who eschewed or were even afraid of organized religion felt her Faith and were comforted by it.
Shari was more than could ever be captured in words. She was a spirit and a joy and a force to be reckoned with. I am honored beyond all measure to have been able to call her my Person and today and every day to come, I will strive to be the person she believed me to be.
Thank you, Big Sista (Dr Doodlebug, scullysfan), for loving me. For kicking my butt. For listening to me whine, for letting yourself unload on me. I'm going to do great things and you will be a big part of the reason why. You were the greatest gift of my life and I miss you.

鎮魂 Guardian [Zhen Hun] extra 2 full translation
Warning(s): single use of a slur, lots of Buddhism, novel ending spoilers / explanation [TN: the other extras are here, you may want to check out #4 for notes on names.] Original Chinese character count: 3068 English Translation word count: 3058 Much thanks to @lady-eden for the final once-over.
A comparatively serious demon-raising incident affecting a certain city in the southern part of the country needed the attention of Chu Shuzhi. He takes Guo Changcheng with him. They spend nearly a whole month there before the incident can be considered perfectly resolved, and the two return to 4 Bright Road.
Guo Changcheng is still as unskilled as he ever was. There are times when everyone feels that Guo Changcheng and their office’s newest member, Xiao Mi, cannot be any more alike.
Oh right, forgot to mention: Xiao Mi is a one year and some old Samoyed dog with an outsized appetite and an undersized intelligence.
It started with a lost dog delivered to the neighbourhood police station, living there for over a month. Though the owner never came back to claim him, it did manage to eat everyone poor. After a few more twists and turns, Zhao Yunlan manages to gain possession of the dog and to keep it at 4 Bright Road in an attempt to divert Daqing’s gloominess on seeing Lao Li.
The whole day through Xiao Mi eats when it should eat, drinks when it should drink, doesn’t ever take anything to heart. Before Chu Shizhi left for the assignment, he spent more than a month with much effort teaching this dog the two tricks of ‘sit’ and ‘shake,’ only to discover it had discarded the only two skills it possessed on Java Island by the time he gets back. Other than to stare blankly with two giant innocent eyes and run around humping legs, its brain seems entirely empty and devoid of dog tricks.
[TN: “Java Island” is a way to say “not even on the map anymore” or “gone”]
In the way that so many skills seem unteachable to the both of them, it does look very much like Guo Changcheng and Xiao Mi belonged to the same family eight hundred years ago.
[TN: There’s a saying that people with the same last names are “五百年前是一家” / belonged to the same family 500 years ago. The number varies.]
But none of it takes away from how he’s in possession of a holy artefact.
The catastrophic rupturing of chaos decimated Difu, and Shen Wei near single-handedly sets up the new order. The sheep skin he wears covers him quite well and he rarely makes an appearance, nor does he meddle in the new administration’s affairs, but the new Difu, given a new lease on life by the wolf that is Shen Wei, dares not treat him with less than the respect he’s due. The Zhanhun-shi that all three realms yielded to now yields more power than ever, so naturally his habit of collecting the remnants of lone souls and wild ghosts passes without the merest notice, all to the advantage of Guo Changcheng’s little stun baton.
If one takes some time and considers that Guo Chancheng tends to turn into a trembling bald chicken whenever he runs into danger, how he always manages to turn fear into sheer power feels rather miraculous.
When Chu Shizhi returns to the office, he ignores all of his paperwork in favour of watching the stock market and studying the candlestick chart while wearing a grave expression, leaving Guo Changcheng to patiently post invoices and fill in expense reports. He goes to find Zhao Yunlan so he can sign the paperwork, but unexpectedly finds the opposite office door locked — Zhao Yunlan isn’t here.
Guo Changcheng scratches his head. He asks innocently, “Zhao Chu isn’t here?”
Zhu Hong doesn’t bother looking up from her computer. “Officially, our new office lease is finalized today and he’s gone to do final inspection and put his signature on things. He thought he may as well move today too — dammit, why is everything so slow? I sincerely hope the net is faster where we’re moving.”
Poor Xiao Mi’s being chased by a little cat all over the room, but Daqing brakes to a stop from his bullying when he hears this. The black cat raises his head to speak, “What about unofficially?”
With an odd tone carrying both longing and a distant ache, Zhu Hong says, “His man fucked him so hard he can’t get out of bed obviously.”
Not about to disappoint, Guo Changcheng is so shocked by these words he ends up sitting down crookedly, and the chair rolls away from beneath him, leaving him to crash solidly onto the floor.
Zhu Hong glances dismissively at Guo Changcheng, telegraphing what a fuss about nothing, and sucks her teeth at him. “Our leader is a faggot, what are you so surprised about — ai, is everyone’s net slow? This is so infuriating."
Chu Shuzhi comments, “It’s pretty slow.”
The one taking up all the bandwidth playing an online game is Lin Jing, and he keeps quiet through all of this pretending to be invisible. He doesn’t stay invisible for long though, and as quickly as he’s discovered, Zhu Hong beats him up.
As punishment, they disconnect Lin Jing’s computer from the network and he’s left to waste his time away by playing an offline game called Plant vs. Zombies.
… and that’s why it’s Chu Shuzhi’s turn to beat him up now.
[TN. a reminder: Chu is a Chinese zombie, which I suppose is like both a zombie and a vampire, by western standards.]
Head in his arms, Lin Jing drapes himself over his desk, tearily saying, “These days are so hard to get through.”
Chu Shuzhi orders, “I see you’re so devoid of work you have dan teng. Xiao Guo, don’t bother writing that report. Give it to someone who has nothing to do.”
[TN. 蛋疼 / dan teng, literally ‘egg pain’ is something like a headache, but it’s closer to the saying, ‘that makes my testicles hurt.’ You can use it in place of the word headache about things/people/situations that gives you a headache, BUT the word differs from a headache in that it is also used for boredom. So bored your testicles hurt. I have no idea where this came from but you don’t need to have testicles to say it. It’s also used in sentences like “that has dan teng to do with me” in which case it’s just a mildly crass way of saying ‘nothing.’]
Guo Ghangcheng looks over at Lin Jing, and finds him tearfully taking a selfie to capture his ‘as rain on pear blossoms’ look, and laughs, not unkindly. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll write it.”
Lin Jing, pooled on his desk, steals a glimpse of Guo Changcheng, and after a while, does it again.
Guo Changcheng is sitting there typing quietly, slow and meticulous the way he does everything, not a hair out of place. Lin Jing, watching him, finally can’t suppress his curiosity any longer, and with lightning speed he stands just to pluck a hair off Guo Changcheng’s head over his desk.
Guo Changcheng cries out in pain, looks bewilderingly up at him.
Lin Jin gives off a mischievous laugh. “It’s nothing. Just some research.”
“It’ll just give off the smell of burnt protein if you set it on fire,” Chu Shuzhi scoffs, not bothering to look up. “Hair is just a part of the mortal shell. Every reincarnation one gets a new shell. How could it have anything special to it? Your research is skin-deep.”
Lin Jing asks after a pregnant pause, “How did you know what it’d smell like if you set it on fire? Did you already try to burn it?”
Chu Shuzhi ignores him.
“What I still don’t understand,” Lin Jing says, playing with that one strand of Guo Changcheng’s hair, the humour vanishing from his face . “How could such a perfectly normal looking young man be … ai, Xiao Guo, do you think there is anything special about you? Something that’s different from other people?”
They’re not sure how, but everyone’s come to a tacit agreement to not mention anything regarding the Zhenhun Lamp in front of Guo Changcheng. Guo Changcheng stares back at Lin Jing blankly and doesn’t get what he’s saying at all. He shakes his head. “Oh, maybe I’m a bit dumber?”
Lin Jing says ,“But …” and pauses, his voice stopping suddenly.
Kunlun Jun has confirmed that Guo Changcheng is the Zhenhun Lamp’s wick. He’s lived a hundred lifetimes and underwent a hundred calamities and none of it altered his first intentions. The merit accumulated on his soul is a match to Nuwa who created humans, and yet heaven’s given him no blessings and no favours. He has no luck nor fortune; he toils in obscurity ignorant of what he is. Lin Jing’s words fade to silence as he realises he doesn’t want to tell Guo Changcheng about this at all, even if this young man, who lit the last Zhenhun Lamp, who can be said to have finally ended the war between chaos and order, is so extraordinary.
[TN. Merit = positive karma. Good, virtuous actions; every time you choose not to do harm, you gain merit.]
Without a third eye, yet he can always see the truth.
Great Merit, heaven-sent, and yet he remains a nobody.
“But what?” Guo Changcheng asks, puzzled.
“Nothing … I was just wondering how come the sceptre handed down by Kunlun Jun is called ‘Zhenhun-Ling,’” Lin Jing mutters, and he doesn’t wait for Guo Changcheng to figure out what he’s said before he asks, “Oh yeah, what do you do after work?”
[TN. 鎮魂令 zhen / subdue, hun / soul, ling / command]
Guo Changcheng lists off, “Oh, I have to make a delivery to Nana Li’s house, and the Southern Tibet Educational Support Group is working on their summer plans so I’m going there afterwards. I work on things like posters and brochures for them in the evenings.”
Lin Jing’s fingers count unconsciously through his prayer beads. “Hinayama the Lesser Vehicle said that the only person who can help you cross the great river is yourself, but after, Mahayana the Greater Vehicle spoke of ferrying all living things across to reach the shores of enlightenment — come to think of it, I’ve wondered this whole time: Xiao Guo, you’re so busy running around everyday. What do you do it all for?”
[TN. 度 / du literally means “to cross (a river)” and in Buddhism it means to “cross the river to the shores of enlightenment.” It carries the meaning of ‘saving’ or ‘salvation,’ and leads to an ‘escape’ from the Wheel of Reincarnation. What Lin Jing paraphrased is from the Lotus Sutra. 佛自住大乘,如其所得法,定慧力莊嚴,以此度眾生。]
Guo Changcheng says, “I don’t … don’t do it for anything. It’s not like I have anything else to do.”
“Then how do you decide for yourself what to do, and what not to do?” Zhu Hong cuts into the conversation.
Guo Changchen swallows, stretching out his neck like a goose freshly plucked out of the water; he has no idea why everyone suddenly seems interested in him. Maybe he’s seen too many dramas: being the centre of attention always makes Guo Changcheng feel as though he’s acquired a terminal illness, giving him the misconception that he’s not long for the world.
Subconsciously he begins to stammer.
“I, I just don’t do bad things, and occasionally, if there’s something I can help with then I help out. I don’t know anything about anything.” Guo Changcheng’s voice gets smaller and smaller as he speaks, until it naturally becomes as high and quiet as a mosquito.
“I’m suddenly reminded of a saying,” Chu Shuzhi, who’s kept quiet all this time, cuts in. “I saw it on a mural of an old tomb. Impossible to say which era it’s from, now. It said, ‘Men’s hearts harbour corruption, often suffer from worry, hold grudges from anger, commit countless crimes they ought not. Only the three words ‘do no harm’ is the greatest virtue under heaven, and of those who can benefit mankind and subdue souls, there is none other.’”
[TN. priest made this part up, it’s not in any sutras, The word here for 濟 / benefit also means “ferry,” which ties into the sutra Lin Jing quoted above.]
“Of those who can benefit mankind and subdue souls, there is none other…” These words seem to float halfway across Dragon City, from the elder Zhao … no, from Shennong-bo’s mouth. “Recently, I have been harbouring doubts.”
Zhao Yunlan sits lazily reclining by the window, crossing an ankle over one knee, looking outside. Dragon City University’s head office is within view; he has no idea if it’s because exams are near, but Shen Wei is surrounded by students asking him questions as soon as he’s finished class. Zhao Yunlan follows him with eyes carrying a hint of a smile, and spares very little attention he has left to ask, “Hmm, like what?”
“The divine wood plaque Shansheng left behind — why is it called the Zhenhun-Ling?”
[TN. Shennong-bo always uses the more polite form of ‘you’ when addressing Kunlun. 您/nin instead of 你/ni. He also refers to Kunlun as 山聖/Shansheng, which in this configuration means ‘sacred mountain,’ btw, this is not a real world title, no god is referred to by it, priest made it up afaik. From Shennong-bo’s mouth, it’s just another way to say ‘you.’ I’ll use the pinyin when it’s a name/title, and a translation when it’s a common noun.]
Zhao Yunlan sweeps over a glance. “What do you think?”
Shennong-bo stops to think, then carefully choosing his words, says, “I have heard that there are only two kinds of people who are unafraid of death. One who is carrying out the true wish of his heart, blames on one, has no regrets. The other, one who knows exactly what is on the other side of death. In these five thousand years, the Zhenhun Lamp continued to burn. All of this happening now: the shattering of the Lesser Wheel of Reincarnation, the creation of the Greater Wheel of Reincarnation using the Ghost King’s soul as a medium and borrowing Great Merit from the Zhenhun Lamp to join them together — is it all just a gambit by the Old Gods?”
The corner of Zhao Yunlan’s mouth rises, revealing a dimple on his cheek. “If we’re so clever, then how come we all died off one by one? Shennong asked you to keep an eye on Zhanhun-shi. Did five thousand years of watching him turn you into a conspiracy theorist?”
Shennong-bo just looks more and more suspicious. “Then why did Shansheng leave behind the Zhenhun Lamp and the Zhenhun-Ling? Why did my founding teacher just happen to let out your memories and powers at that exact, crucial moment?”
“When Shen Wei decided to wipe my memories, he’d already fulfilled everything he agreed to in his contract,” Zhao Yunlan pours himself a cup of tea, “The contract is concluded, and the influence Shennong had on both of us dissipated entirely, and that’s why I was able to ‘wake up.’”
Shennong-bo says, “Then you’re saying … it’s a coincidence?”
“That’s not it, either,” Zhao Yunlan murmurs after a little thinking.
Shennong-Bo is even more confused.
Zhao Yunlan looks at him, but not in the way a son looks up at his father. His gaze passes through their two mortal shells, falling onto the medicine pot itself.
At this moment, he seems to have become an elder.
“Wait some more,” he says. “Maybe give it another thousand, another two thousand years, you’ll get it. Some things must be learned through your own experience; it won’t do you any good for someone else to just tell you. When you want to sacrifice your life for a just cause, you’ll be able to grasp truths that no one else could understand. Whether it’s about the Zhenhun Lamp or Shennong’s contract, when we made those decisions at the time, we were only able to grasp a shadow of the future. It could move in a good direction, or maybe …”
Shennong-bo asks, “And if it didn’t move in a good direction?”
“The world will naturally gain new gods after we die. They’ll learn from our mistakes. It’s not in vain.” Zhao Yunlan hears Shen Wei’s familiar footsteps coming upstairs, and he gets up, takes the windbreaker he’s hung on the back of his chair and throws it over an arm. He turns his head to Shennong-bo, “Aren’t you one of the ‘new’ gods?”
Shen Wei arrives as Shennong-bo is still mulling over that, and with an indifferent air gives him a courteous, perfunctory nod. When his gaze lands on Zhao Yunlan, it softens in an instant. He asks, “Are you leaving now? Have you finished with your conversation?”
Zhao Yunlan makes a sound of agreement, and says to Shennong-bo, “Drive carefully on the way back, don’t let my dad notice anything. Take good care of his body.”
Shennong-bo stands, saying deferentially, “I must thank Shansheng for the guidance. In truth, I came today to beg my leave. It can be said that I have accomplished my task and it would be unseemly to hang onto a mortal’s body any longer.”
Zhao Yunlan seems taken aback, but only for a second. “When are you leaving?”
“Today,” Shennong-bo says, “I’ll return elder Zhao home right away.”
[TN. 趙先生 could be translated to Mr. Zhao, but Shennong-bo is old and formal, so I went with what 先生 would have been translated to according to Mencius. 先生,父兄也。And older man in a family, a father or an older brother.]
“That’s good.” Zhao Yunlan thinks for a second, and without a care, waves his goodbyes. “Take care. Don’t hesitate to come to me if you need anything.”
The couple leaves for downstairs together. Shennong-bo stands silently by the window, and watches the two of them move unhurriedly toward a residential neighbourhood across from campus full of European style houses with gardens, walking at an leisurely speed like they’re taking an afternoon walk. He’s reminded of what Zhao Yunlan said, that he’s been waiting for Shen Wei so they can move house together.
Farther ahead, from the neighbourhood greenbelt to the immense balconies of the buildings, clusters of flowers of every colour blossom soundlessly where they pass. Only now does Shennong-bo realises that spring is already in the air.
[TN. 春意 means both ‘the start of spring’ and ‘thoughts of love.’]

999: Alterna (2) - Part 9, Chapters 7-9
Table of Contents | Previous: Part 9, Chapters 4-6
Chapter 7
I finally understood why, nine years in the future, my brother kidnapped Jumpy and the others and recreated this terrifying game.
It was all for the sake of saving me.
Watching me in the present, my brother realized that my consciousness and Jumpy’s from nine years in the future were connected through the field.
However, in order for this miracle to be possible, multiple conditions had to be met.
First, Jumpy had to be infected with the Angel Fever virus, and eventually reach Stage 3. I guess my brother was somehow able to transmit the virus into Jumpy’s body. The incubation period of the virus was five to ten years, so at least that much time was needed for the plan to work.
Next, Jumpy had to be placed in the exact same situation I currently found myself in. For that, my brother had no choice but to prepare this large stage and kidnap Snake, the detective, and the rest. Lotus must have been chosen to take the place of her late daughter.
Furthermore, there was one more condition. Unless my emotions reached a fever pitch, I wouldn’t be able to connect with Jumpy through the field. That was largely out of my brother’s control.
But still, right now, I was connected with Jumpy. That meant...
Even the darkest corners of my heart were lit up with passion. Flickering between this world and the next, my heart fluttered with joy.
I want to live!
That was my desire.
I wanted to live so that I could see Jumpy one more time.
>>>
At last, I succeeded in reconfiguring my Rubik’s Cube to match Akane’s.
[121]... [120]...
Two minutes left.
I stopped twisting the cube and took a deep breath.
Please, reach Kanny!
I focused on the cube in my hands and began unscrambling it.
<<<
All of Jumpy’s thoughts were conveyed to me. My hands started moving on their own volition. As I watched on, the faces of the cube were getting unscrambled. Almost like magic.
And finally...
“Yes! Done!” I had solved the puzzle with 60 seconds to spare.
“Kanny, how’d it go? Did you unscramble the cube?”
“Yeah, I fully solved it! Or rather, you were the one who did it for me. All I did was copy your moves... Now I just have to scan my bracelet on the <RED>.”
“Then go!”
“Yes!” I left the altar and leapt at the numbered door. “Please open, please open, please open...”
Praying, I touched the <RED> and pulled the lever. It slid all the way down.
The door slowly opened, emitting a harsh metallic sound that now brought me a strange sense of comfort.
I didn’t know when they had come down from the ceiling, but my brother, Light, Nona, and the detective were there to greet me on the other side of the door.
>>>
Only 60 seconds remained.
The warning siren blared, and all the lights in the room began to flicker chaotically.
“What are you waiting for? Get moving,” Lotus said, sitting before the altar. “With that puzzle out of the way, you guys can open the [9] door with the [6] bracelet.”
“But...” Seven had a look of pity in his eyes.
“Hurry! Or are you going to let everything go to waste?”
“Lotus, it’s okay! We can escape with you too!” I grabbed her arm and pulled her over to the numbered door.
“Hey... What are you doing?”
“Trust me, I know,” I said, as I brought Lotus’s wrist over to the scanner.
“What do you know?”
“This door won’t be opened by a digital root of [9]. Remember how Hongou couldn’t open it with the [2] and [6] bracelets?”
“Ain’t that just because he didn’t solve the puzzle first?” Seven asked as he placed his left wrist on the <RED>.
“No, I don’t believe so,” Snake said as he scanned the [6] bracelet in his right hand. “It’s programmed so that after either one of the two doors is opened, the lock connected to the Rubik’s Cube activates. That’s how Hongou explained it nine years ago.”
“Then why didn’t it open?”
“The settings were reprogrammed this time. After all, Santa has no reason to kill us.”
Why did Santa take Clover with him when he left this room? I found that decision odd. Santa had the [3] and [6] bracelets in his possession. He could have easily used them to open the numbered door, and yet, he didn’t. He left the [6] bracelet in the room, because he knew we’d need it later.
I thought back to Zero’s words.
“The exit is hidden somewhere on this ship. Seek a door. Seek a door that carries a [9].”
It wasn’t a [9].
I looked back at the character written on the door.
It was a [q]..[11]
I turned around and checked the countdown.
[10]... [9]... [8]...
I brought my left wrist to the scanner and slammed the lever down with all my might. The door opened with a clang. The <DEAD> was set up right behind it.
We rushed out of the chapel and scanned our bracelets on the <DEAD>, but it was still too early to relax.
“This way, hurry!” Seven led us up the spiral staircase.
The time limit should have already passed, but for some reason, nothing exploded.
[11] (TN: The letter “q” and the number “9” in Japanese are both pronounced “kyuu,” so Zero’s announcement is more ambiguous when heard in Japanese.)
Chapter 8
The <DEAD> was right outside the door. I rushed to press my bracelet against it.
“Everyone, hurry—”
I turned around to yell, but immediately noticed that their eyes were still glued to the other side of the door.
“Akane? Where are you, Akane?!” Aoi wailed, staring into the chapel.
“Back away! Door’s closin’!”
Restrained by the detective, Aoi desperately struggled to get back into the room.
“Akane... Why...” Aoi wept as the door shut.
“What are you saying? Aoi, I’m right here,” I shouted out, but my voice couldn’t seem to reach him. “Why...?”
“Hey, there’s a skull on your bracelets,” the detective pointed out.
“Crap! Light, Nona, let’s move!”
The three of them sprinted to the <DEAD> and scanned their bracelets.
“What happened? The door opened, but Akane wasn’t in there!”
“It’s my fault...” Nona started sobbing. “It’s my fault she’s...”
“Don’t cry! I’m right here, I’m still alive!”
As if he sensed my presence, Light turned in my direction. “...Akane?”
“Yes! Can’t you see, I’m right here!”
And yet, my voice still couldn’t reach them. Light tilted his head for a moment, before turning his back to me once more.
At the sound of an explosion, the floor violently shook. Black smoke drifted through the gaps around the door.
“Let’s go. The ship won’t stay afloat for much longer.”
Everyone started to make their way up the staircase. I frantically chased after them.
My entire body felt hot, almost feverish. But that heat was all I felt. The exhaustion and pain that once afflicted me had disappeared. Even though I was running for dear life, I had no trouble breathing—as if this body wasn’t mine. It felt like I was watching myself in a dream. That strange feeling clouded my head.
I looked down, having realized that something was wrong. Much to my surprise, my legs had largely faded from view, so the floor was clearly visible through my feet.
“What’s going on...?”
The confusion inside of me peaked. I was on the edge of losing my mind.
—“Don’t go spouting that crap about fate. We can change the future with our own hands, however much we want.”
Jumpy’s words from the future suddenly replayed in my mind.
“Wait... Don’t tell me...”
I stopped in my tracks and looked up.
Schrödinger's Cat. As long as the box remained closed, whether the cat is alive or dead would stay an unresolvable mystery. That paradox represented the overlapping states of life and death. Perhaps my existence had yet to be confirmed.
The future wasn’t set in stone. The timeline where Jumpy never got infected with Angel Fever, the timeline where he didn’t participate in the Nonary Game, the timeline where he gave up on escaping halfway through... All of those futures surely existed. He wouldn’t necessarily be able to save me in nine years. Until that moment actually occurred, nobody could determine my fate.
That was why right now, I was neither alive nor dead—like a ghost. Most likely, that would remain true until the day Jumpy saved me in nine years.
“Hey!”
The detective’s voice from overhead snapped me out of my trance. I looked up to see Nona climbing over the handrail, motioning to jump off.
I looked down. The seawater that had penetrated the ship from the explosion was swirling into a vicious vortex. Nona couldn’t swim. If she fell, she’d be met with certain death.
“Stop! Stay calm!”
“It’s my fault... It’s my fault... I’m so sorry, Akane...”
As Nona sniffled, she jumped off the handrail and into the air. The detective reached out to grab her but didn’t make it in time. Just like that, she was sucked into the raging whirlpool below.
“Nona!” I screamed out her name while clinging to the handrail.
>>>
We rushed up the spiral staircase with only one goal in mind. My legs flew, my arms swung wildly, and my eyes stuck solely to the path in front of me.
As I ran, Seven’s voice reached my ears.
“Hey Junpei, mind if I ask you somethin’?”
“What’s up?”
“That [9] door from earlier. Why’d it open?”
“That’s right,” Lotus added. “We used four bracelets to activate the <RED>. [5], [6], [7], and [8] make 26, so the digital root should’ve been [8].”
“It wasn’t the number [9] that was scribbled on the door. It was the letter [q].”
“The letter [q]?”
“Computer programming uses hexadecimal sometimes, right?”
Under the hexadecimal system, after the number [9] came [a]. Then came [b], [c], [d], and so on. In base-10, [a] would represent [10], [b] would be [11], and [c] would be [12].
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Instead of the base-16 hexadecimal system, think about it in terms of base-30.”
“Base-30?”
“After [16], or [f], continue using letters instead of adding a digit. For example, [h] would be [17], [i] would be [18], and so on. Continuing that pattern, [q] would be—”
“[26]!” Seven yelled, counting with his large fingers.
“Exactly.”
“Look, up ahead!” Lotus shouted, pointing forward.
Waiting at the top of the staircase was a single door. Blinding rays of sunlight poured in through the frame.
“The exit!”
I picked up the pace.
Chapter 9
I spent what felt like an eternity straddling the line between life and death.
My memories of everything after the events of that day remained hazy, most likely a result of my Schrödinger's Cat-like existence.
Time marched on, and as the fateful day approached, my existence became more and more defined. I’d never forget the look of shock and joy on my brother’s face the day he saw me in the bathroom.
However, my ghostlike presence didn’t change. Minor events would affect our future on the fated day—each time that happened, I would contract a high fever and my existence would go back to being hazy.
“I’ll save you, no matter what it takes.”
But I had no idea of the dreadful plot my brother was concocting for that day...
>>>
We stumbled through the door leading outside and were greeted with intense sunlight that pierced our eyes. I squinted and shaded my face with my hand.
Colors began to paint the scene before me. The blurred view slowly but surely took shape.
“This is...”
“What? No way...”
“How?”
We found ourselves on the rooftop of a decrepit building. A nostalgic scene stretched out, and far into the distance, I could make out the recently completed Tokyo Skytree.
“Hmm... I don’t hear any waves, and I don’t smell any saltwater either... That means we’re—”
“Yeah, this is that experimental facility in the city.” Santa walked out from the shadow of the water tower. “I didn’t have the cash to buy and renovate an entire ship, so I borrowed this abandoned building.”
Clover appeared beside Santa.
“Brother!” Upon seeing Snake, Clover rushed over to where we were, about to burst into tears. “I’m so glad you’re alive...”
She flew into Snake’s chest and began to sob. Snake smiled and affectionately tussled her hair.
Santa’s eyes, focused on the siblings’ reunion, appeared to be tinged with loneliness.
“Sorry for dragging you guys into this,” Santa said. “Don’t worry about the bombs. There weren’t any inside you to begin with.”
He took out a device resembling a remote control from his pocket. The moment he pointed it at us, our bracelets detached from our wrists and fell to our feet.
“See ya.” Santa gave a small wave with his right hand turned his back to us, and stepped back into the building.
“Where are you going?”
“Junpei, I leave the rest to you,” Santa replied, ignoring my question. He slowly descended the spiral staircase.
“Hey, Santa—” I head towards the door, hoping to follow after him.
But then, someone else appeared in his place. A girl of about high school age. Although I had never met her, I immediately recognized who she was, since she closely resembled the young girl from nine years ago whom I saw through the field.
“...Nona?” Lotus’s voice was close to a whisper. “Are you... Nona?”
“Mom... You can see me?” The girl seemed surprised as well.
“How...?” Seven appeared to be at a loss. “You died nine years ago falling off that spiral staircase—”
“I saved her back then.” Another person appeared through the door frame. “But since my existence was still hazy, saving her caused her existence to become hazy too.”
Akane smiled happily at the heartfelt embrace between mother and daughter.
“But everything’s okay now. Schrödinger's Cat lives. The box has been opened, and now, everything has become reality.”
“Kanny...”
I inched over to her.
There was something I wanted to tell her once we escaped. But my chest felt tight, and the words stuck in my throat.
Illuminated by the sun, Akane’s blushing face slowly turned to face mine.
Seeing my eyes dart back and forth, she gently moved her lips.
“I’m back, Jumpy.”
Our two elongated shadows intertwined.
The faint scent of sweet olives lingered in the air.

. ˚ ◝  ahn hyojin ( le )  ,  cisfemale  ,  she/her  .  → have you met yoo hyorin aka mysti  ?  they are a twenty-six year old scorpio  .  they’ve been living in los angeles for five years as a musician  .  the maudlin has a reputation for being protective  &  egotistical  .  because of that they remind me of pink glitter lipstick and bratz dolls  .  maybe that’s why they love cereal by crush so much  .  (  austin  .  21  .  he/they  .  est  .  )
Tumblr media
what’s up babies . i’m austin, 21, in est, and go by he / they . i am bringing you my queen mysti who has been through the ringer and revamped for the better . this is my first time writing her a group setting and i’m very excited to try and do so !  if you want to plot with me then i’m 100000% up for it and in the mean time i’ll be editing mysti’s discography page so you can know more about her music while also making some Cool graphics for mysti both for the event and just ... for fun . anyway, i am really excited for this group and it’s concept so ... yeah ! read more about this drama llama below !
tl;dr: the big doozie about mysti is that she goes by mysti and really only that besides her really close friends . this is because when she moved from nashville, tn. to los angeles, she tried to start on a completely clean slate . there was really no reason for this besides her just wanting to ... so even at the start of her career she went by a different name and tried to be someone she never was growing up . she went from basically nothing to bathing in riches whenever she pleases all because she can . but can she keep her past truly in the past ?
she grew up in nashville, like i said, and only has been in los angeles for five years aka she moved here when she was 21, which was the main start of her career . and despite everything being so close to perfect now, it wasn’t always, because she came from a broke family who could never figure out how to divide up their money wisely and in a way that would support them fully . she was also bullied a lot for her race in school because of where she grew up and lived . therefore she spent a lot of her time by herself and her talents and interests included musical and creative things which also because her outlets . she asks her parents when she is sixteen if she can move to la to pursue a music career . NO, that’s what they tell her, but after asking a second time and pleading, her parents agree but only on the condition that she comes home if she fails within two years . so she is set out to los angeles not long after, doing audition after audition under her NEW name -- mysti .
she puts herself to the test and makes sure to never bring herself down . it pays off ... and drastically . she isn’t the most well known rapper but she is a pretty damn good one, with three full albums out in the span of being active for four, almost five years and even featuring on other albums of other singers/rapper ( see vienna ) . she is always on her grind, for all you memes, and knows that the only way to keep going in such a cutthroat business is to keep her past her past and her present her present . the only problem is that she doesn’t really know how long she can truly keep up the act .
anyway ... since you read all that, now we can move onto her personality ?
this is an easy section .
+ traits: thoughtful, ambitious, perfectionist, protective. - traits: drunk, self pitiful, guarded, egotistical
alcohol tw. // mysti is your basic rich bitch with an unlady-like side . she’s grossly vulgar -- cussing all the time and being downright disrespectful when she wants to be -- and she doesn’t really know when to keep her mouth shut when it comes to drama . she definitely has an on screen and off screen personality or more like a public verses non public personality where she is more tame in the midst of people she doesn’t know but is a lot more wild and outspoken in a crowd of friends . she is extremely protective over people she loves and cherishes, but has the biggest ego if you ever saw one . on top of it all, she’s a drunk, always drinking her brain to bits although she keeps her alcoholism under wraps for the most part .
in my opinion, mysti isn’t that hard to friend . if she fucks with you, she fucks with you ... but if she doesn’t, don’t expect anything outta her .

Review of Focus Treatment Centers of Chattanooga, TN
My Google review was too long, so here is the whole post: (Yes, this was important enough to me to start a whole tumblr page just to raise awareness. It took me over a whole day to figure out how too make this work. Also, it helps bring me peace for such a horrible/traumatic experience. Also, please excuse any typos or weird wording. Tumblr did not copy and paste accurately for some reason. Not even close. So I literally had to word for word compare this post to the word document where it was saved and fix all the weird stuff it did)
(This is part 1 of 3 of my review) If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I have been to multiple detox and mental health facilities and this was the ABSOLUTE worst experience I've ever had. This place is TOXIC and should be shut down. My 7 th point is the most significant, FYI, if you decide to skip the rest.
Ok, so maybe if you have "stereotypical" body image issues with anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorders and do not know what's causing them, maybe Focus can be helpful. BUT what a lot of these sick people have yet to realize apparently, is that there are MANY forms of eating disorder that don't include those three disorders. (Specific example: My friend's 4-year old son has what doctors have called an eating disorder, because he has a hard time eating certain textures, etc. He's not over eating and he's certainly not undereating because he’s concerned about his physical appearance. He is in therapy for it. ALL eating disorders deserve help.)
I digress.
1.) I went to the facility to seek treatment for alcoholism and eating disorders. It took me three tries to get into this facility because they kept rejecting me on the basis that my BAC was too high. Ya think? I know I needed help and I was more than coherent so it's not like I was passed out drunk or something. By my 3rd attempt I could not even sign the documents because I was shaking/withdrawing so much as a result of getting my BAC low enough so quickly for acceptance.
2.) They consistently left me in the dark. They did not give me or my husband any information about the program, aside from financials (money hungry much?). They did not give me a tour of the facility. They did not explain how anything worked or where anything was. I didn’t even know where I could have gotten more water to drink. Yes, I could have asked, but I was shaking and so sick because I was also detoxing that I thought I might have been seizures, because they gave me basically nothing that helped me with my withdrawals. I was suffering so much and they blamed it on me for not eating. Well, no shit. I was having severe alcohol withdrawals and loss of appetite is a common symptom. Not to mention the food that they offered wasn’t appetizing at all. I already have difficulty eating, hence the reason I was in the eating disorder department in the first place. Not because I'm afraid of getting fat. I'm happy with my weight and trying to gain more weight actually. Their solution was to give me Gatorade.
I have a history of alcoholism and have never experienced any withdrawals like this in my life. (and I drank much more heavily for much longer the other time I went to detox) They gave me medication that seemingly had no effect on me. I explained the medicine did not really do much, but all they did was up the dosage which still didn’t do much. In comparison, the last facility I went to years ago gave me a medication that actually worked for me. I never felt sick the whole time I was there after that first dose. (I also wasn’t overly medicated and they lowered my dosage each day, not increased it) I have also weaned/detoxed myself off the alcohol with no drugs and still never experienced any withdrawals like what happened at Focus. (Part 1/3)
(This is part 2 of 3 of my review) 3.) They absolutely refused to speak to my husband on the phone. Maybe for some that’s the best approach, but my husband is my rock, my foundation, my everything and we have never spent a day in 12 years where we have not at least spoken on the phone and 99% (98.8% I literally did the math) of those days we are together physically. I told them I wouldn’t be able to make it if they didn’t let me speak to him. I told many people who adamantly refused, which is ridiculous, because I was going through the most difficult sickness of my life and I just wanted to hear his voice. Just for a minute, so I could find the strength to keep going. I made it very clear how important this was to me. My husband had even spoken with the facility and explained that he was afraid I’d suffer separation anxiety and wouldn’t be able to make it without his support and asked if an exception could be made to best provide for my mental health. They wouldn’t allow it and couldn’t accept that there was not "one right way" for everyone.
This facility needs to be more accommodating to the exact needs of specific individuals. DO NOT LET THEM MAKE YOU BELIEVE THAT THEY KNOW YOU BETTER THAN YOU KNOW YOURSELF. And as I mentioned before about being left in the dark, there was an EDA (eating disorder anonymous) meeting THAT evening which my husband could have attended. If I could have just waited a few more hours I could have seen him. But NO ONE told me about this. They told him, but of course he had no way of telling me directly and asked them to tell me to give me hope, but of course they neglected to do that.
4.) They could never give me clear answers on when I would get to see the doctor, therapist, or nutritionist. It was always just "well, you'll get to see them soon". It was so much uncertainty which is so difficult when I was in such a fragile state. As a side note, they told my husband I’d see the therapist the same day I checked in, but I only got to see her the next day AFTER I declared I needed to leave because the place was just too toxic for me.
5.) They wouldn’t let me brush my teeth. The nurse said it might make me vomit. Um ... I guess I don’t know about the average person, but having a clean mouth is going to make ME considerably less nauseated, so I had to sneak away to go brush my teeth. Something so simple and also important because I have a history of teeth issues. 6.) They go through your suitcase when you get there, which is understandable, but they took things out without telling me they took anything out at all. One of the things they took out was something called a Plexis Wheel. It's similar to a foam roller, just google it if you don’t know what it is. It helps pop, massage, and straighten out your back. First of all, why the fuck was I not allowed to have that? It's not dangerous in any way and I NEED it. I have chronic back pain from fractures I received a few years ago. Like 24/7 pain. They also took my yoga mat, because you know, that's dangerous. That's what I would have used to use the plexis wheel on, so I was in a panic when I realized I could not find them in my suitcase. I have so much pain and anything natural I can do to help with my pain I do it. (I don’t take any drugs or anything for it) A nurse also took away my fitbit off my wrist, because it "counts steps", which she assumed meant I was going to use it to lose weight, I guess. I was almost in tears, because I NEED know the time and date to stay in touch with reality, having this information keeps me sane. I don’t even pay attention to the number of steps most of the time. That was the worst nurse I had. She was such a pushy bitch. I wish I remembered her name. (Part 2/3)
(This is part 3 of 3 my review)  This brings me to my last and most significant point. At one point during my stay I was asked: "Have you done any of the following things recently?":
· Had suicidal thoughts
· Had homicidal thoughts
· Binging
· Purging
· Restricting
· Exercising
So of course, I said "only exercising". She asked if I had exercised since I'd been there. Obviously not - I was lying in bed shaking and dying. I could barely walk much less do any kind of exercise. I exercise, because 1.) my stretches, yoga, and exercise are the most significant things I can do to fight my chronic back pain. When I tried to explain this, they basically rolled their eyes and asked me sarcastically how working out/exercising could possibly help my back pain. I explained that it strengthens muscles, improves posture, etc. It was literally suggested to me by my orthopedic doctor as the only thing that can be done to help my condition. In addition, building muscle helps gain weight and increases your appetite, (which I'd been telling them the whole time that I’ve trying to do, not lose weight, but again they didn’t believe me, because of stereotypes. I even have to wear my wedding ring on a necklace, because it won’t even fit my finger anymore because I’ve successfully gained weight.) The nurse gave me a look like "ok, yeah, whatever". They just could not comprehend how working out could help my pain and the fact that I was actively trying to gain weight. 2.) Exercise is good for you emotionally, as everyone knows it raises endorphins. And 3.) I HAVE OSTEOPOROSIS. Google anything about it and it will tell you that the most important thing you can do to strengthen bones is to do heavy weightlifting. Who normally has osteoporosis at 28? PEOPLE WITH EATING DISORDERS. A facility that deals with people with eating disorders should know the benefits of this. I can’t explain my eating disorders (besides the fact that my mouth gets really dry and my teeth hurt and if I don’t like the food enough, then I don’t salivate enough, which become painful and therefore causes stomach problems from not chewing it properly) and I would have liked to have gotten help in figuring out ways to combat it, but obviously they are not educated enough for my complex situation.
Needless to say, I had to check out after about 24 hours. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. And the fact that they left me sick even though I told them the medicine wasn’t working (and certainly not the Gatorade). However, as sick as they said I’d be if I left after just one day of detox, and as many times as they told me that once my meds wore off I was going to be really sick again and that I might have seizures and/or die - That same evening I was home and sober with my husband (who got me food I could actually eat) and my kitties and plexis wheel and I felt great. I just think the stress the nurses were causing me was just exasperating my withdrawal symptoms and lowering my appetite. Again, that place was just extremely toxic for me and I'm SO glad I left when I did and will certainly never be back. I suggest you take all of this into consideration before admitting yourself because this is a neglectful facility that honestly could have been sued for malpractice, because I could have died. (I didn’t eat anything the whole time I was there, which was very dangerous in my given situation)
Whoever from the facility/company is reading this, one size does not fit all. I was SO optimistic that your program would have been able to help me, and I'm very disappointed and discouraged that it ended so poorly. It's facilities like yours that give mental health care to bad reputation, which in turn discourages people from getting the help they really need. (3/3)
I have been to hell and back just trying to post this review using 3 different emails address, 3 different browsers, 5 different devices, multiple IP addresses (with no success) and hours and hours of my time. I have never put this much effort into posting something online. I say all of this to say, this has not been a quick endeavor, but again this experience was so significant to me that it was THAT important to me to make others aware and also for my own mental peace. Thanks for reading.

Remote DevDigital Employees Experience Nashville
Tumblr media
DevDigital is based in Nashville, TN but we have several employees located around the world. Two of our remote workers, project managers Ritesh Pancholi and Blake Conover came to Nashville earlier this month to meet some clients, share knowledge with the Nashville team, and engage in some team-building activities.
Tumblr media
Ritesh Pancholi is a project manager based out of Toronto, Ontario who has been with DevDigital for nine years. He is from India and worked for us in our Vadodara, India office before moving to Saskatchewan and then to Ontario. While in Nashville, he met with some clients and took care of his normal project management work.
Ritesh loved the live music and the mild weather. Toronto got a little bit of snow just before he left for Nashville. He also tried out The Escape Game and found their room a challenge for two people. Ritesh was also surprised to find some great Indian food in the Music City. He enjoyed South Broadway as well.
Here was what Ritesh enjoyed most about his visit: "Visiting Nashville (again) was on my list for a long time! It was so great to meet all the colleagues in person and spend time to know everyone personally. I am so grateful for this visit. It allowed me to have the in-person experience to work from the DevDigital office! Nothing could be so exciting for me to be there in person for almost 2 weeks. Other than that, Nashville is a beautiful city, and hanging out with my colleagues come friends made a dream come true for me!"
Tumblr media
Blake Conover is one of our SEO (search engine optimization) project managers. Her work focuses on preparing and executing search strategies that help customers find clients’ websites. Blake found time to meet with a few DevDigital SEO clients while taking care of some project management work.
Blake loved the diversity of people and cultures she encountered during her visit. After hours, the SEO team had a meeting and the November 11th Fall Open House. Blake and various team members also spent some time on South Broadway and over in East Nashville.
Blake was born in Las Vegas but now lives in the picturesque Idaho town of Post Falls, which is near Couer d’Alene. She has been with DevDigital for almost five months. If you need a website or if your site isn’t getting as much traffic as you want, contact us to see how we can help.
For Blake this experience was crucial to building relationships within the company. She had this to say about her experience: "It was such a privilege to be able to come to Nashville. To see the city and meet our clients face-to-face gave me a better perspective and a deeper understanding of why we do what we do. My favorite thing about Nashville, though, was spending time with my DevDigital teammates. Getting to really feel the heartbeat of the company, which is much more like a family, has made me feel so infused with the team and has elevated my passion and gratitude for being able to be part of something so special."

Ousaka Sougo: 12 SONGS GIFT Rabbit Chat Part 5
7: Sogo-san, Happy Birthday!
2: Sou, congrats.
4: So-chan, HBD!!
6: Happy Birthday Sogo. Did you have a nice birthday?
3: Sougo, Happy Birthday!
1: Ousaka-san, happy birthday.
5: Everyone, thank you. Thank you very much.
T: Sogo-san, Happy Birthday! Great work at the release event!
4: How was it? Did you get nervous?
5: I did get nervous....
7: But it was so exciting right! I watched the video that manager took!
3: People who expected a soft song from you were surprised. Even though they had fun after that.
T: It was an amazing event in which the fans got so excited! Especially...
T: The solo live!
5: I was nervous but it was a song I liked so being able to sing it ideally was great. The stage effects were different from IDOLiSH7 and MEZZO", it was cool and intense, I was happy.
2: I received rabbitchat from you said "Fans at the handshaking event liked me", what did you mean?
5: Because I get nervous when I meet an artist I admire, so I thought it's the same feelings.
5: Every time when Momo-san and Tsunashi-san told me, “You should relax more,” I always think I can't do something so rude, but when I'm in front of fans, I was thinking the same thing as Momo-san and Tsunashi-san.
2: Even though you should have been more relaxed?
5: Yes. But I also know they can't because I know myself too.
1: I see. You sympathized with your fans. What kind of word did you give to your fans?
5: “Please raise your head. You'll regret it if you didn't see their face."
3: It's kind advice but it also sounds so Osaka Sogo-Sama huh?
5: Eh? Was it like that? Oops...
7: I’m sure every fan that received the opportunity from you and could see your face was happy!
6: Exactly. You saved shy girls.
3: That’s right! Everyone likes Sougo, so surely they know what you meant! How about the song?
5: I was worried but it felt great to sing.
5: I was most about about being the MC...
4: You were stopping at weird parts.
5: You noticed?
4: Anyone noticed. Even your face looked panicked.
5: I’m depressed...
6: There’s no problem. The audience were happily watching you with a tender look.
3: Yeah yeah! I enjoyed it after that moment when you revealed yourself when you were talking!
5: Is that true?
3: It’s true it’s true! It was good that you weren't too humble. The results were alright!
2: But why did you lose your line? You were practicing being the MC. You even made script and memorized everything.
5: The audience threw some word in between. It amused me but I lost my line when I laughed...
2: Oh. That's the pleasure of being the MC that you can't experience with scripts.
5: At the time, I was thinking he would respond better if it had been Mitsuki-san, and then Mitsuki-san's face pops in my head. Oh no, I stopped, if it had been Nagi-kun, he would make some good ad lib, and then Nagi-kun's face pops up in my head...
5: Everyone's faces popped up and disappeared in order.
2: That's sound like a revolving lantern. [TN: Japanese equivalent of “life flashing before your eyes” expression]
4: Did you remember me too?
5: I remembered. I thought that if you were next to me you would definitely help me.
7: Tamaki, he trusted yoooou!!
3: That’s great! MEZZO"s friendship is growing well!!
6: That's proof of the friendship and trustworthiness that you spent a long time raising.
5: I’m embarrassed that you’re saying that…
1: Yotsuba-san, why are you quiet?
2: Tama’s also being embarrassed.
4: I'm not embarrassed.
4: I just thought I can't help that.
5: I’m sorry that I'm miserable partner... Even though you did great on your solo-live...
4: No no! I lied! I was just embarrassed...
5: Is that true?
4: It’s true.
2: The essential thing hasn’t really changed huh, you guys.
T: Sougo-san, since it’s your birthday, can I ask how Sougo-san is feeling right now?
T: I also asked this when everyone had just debuted. What kinds of activities do you want to do, what kind of idol do you want to be.
T: Now, your feelings may have changed from when you just debuted. I want to ask you again for future reference.
5: Let’s see…
5: My feelings have probably changed a lot. My dream, the thing I wanted to do, was become an idol but when we just became IDOLiSH7, I didn't know the meaning of being myself or fulfilling my dream.
5: I kept thinking about not failing the things ahead of me and to not bother people, and I was forgetting the important things.
5: Even though I started this job because wanted to live like myself.
T: Sougo-san…
5: Since I'm doing it for the first time, it should be natural that I failed and couldn’t do things well. Even though everyone was thinking of helping me.
5: Without noticing it, I prioritized doing things well without bothering people.
5: At the very beginning, Tamaki-kun got really mad right? You said you didn’t even really want to become friendly with me.
4: I remember. Like at the barbecue right?
5: Thinking about it now, I thought you were half right, half wrong.
5: I really did want to become friends with Tamaki-kun. I wasn’t so much interested in you as I strongly felt that I had to do things well with you.
5: That was rude of me. Because Tamaki-kun is sensitive, maybe you sensed that.
4: I understand that it’s different now.
5: Thank you.
5: Same with work huh. I feel like I don’t want to fail because I have to do well…
5: But more than that, I’ve come to strongly feel that I want to know more, to try more.
2: You’ve sure gain confidence huh, Sou. You could do anything before, so you haven’t changed skill-wise.
2: You’ve come to consider yourself important and like and have confidence in yourself. I’m happy.
5: Thank you, Yamato-san... It’s because Yamato-san and everyone always speaks to me.
7: I'm really happy if Sogo-san started to like yourself because of us!
7: I mean, because we all love Sougo-san!
5: Thank you, Riku-kun. I love everyone too.
6: This is amazing. All people should spend time with the one they like, and one they feel happiness by being together with.
6: Sogo, and us, are best friends who can make one another happy.
3: That’s right! Because Sougo praised me too, I came to like myself! Even when I was almost depressed, it changed to confidence!
1: I used to think that you have no problem if you have confidence. It's mean you are perfect right now.
5: Nagi-kun, Mitsuki-san, Iori-kun, thank you. I’m really happy.
5: I’m glad I get to sing with everyone.
4: Congrats, So-chan. On your birthday and on being able to think that you can try to do the things you want too.
4: Also, thanks for understanding that the old me felt lonely.
5: That’s my line. Sorry for scolding you without understand.
4: Let’s have another barbecue. This time we can talk normally.
4: Not ‘have to become friendly’, just normal.
5: Yeah. Like we can talk endlessly.
T: [Happy Kinako stamp]
T: Sougo-san, thank you... I'm really glad to hear truth from you...
5: I'm glad to have opportunity to talk to everyone too. Thank you manager.
T: No way! I want to work hard to do what you want to do together with you.
5: Same here.
T: Sougo-san, lastly please say one thing to the fans!
5: Got it.
5: Everyone who support me, thank you so much. Because of everyone, I could enjoy another birthday.
5: Thank you for being interested in me and coming to like me. I love everyone too.
5: From now on, let’s make precious memories together.
