Following the latest spicy happenings, I just wanted to share again my own perspective on fandom etiquette and tumblr interaction for folks who follow or engage with me on here. I've been clear about my boundaries here, and people who choose not to respect that get what they get. I tend to write with a clear perspective and let my words speak for themselves, and while I love to discuss and even have friendly disagreements, I don’t bother responding to folks who are clearly not engaging in good faith. I block when it rises to the level of blatant rudeness or when someone is developing an unhealthy fixation.

That said, there’s really no need to be dramatic about getting blocked on tumblr. Blocking doesn't mean anything except that you don't want to engage with a person or their content anymore, for any number of reasons that are all perfectly fine and valid, because this is your curated space. It doesn't make us sworn enemies. We're all just internet strangers and no one owes you their time and attention.

If you couldn't tell, I am a fandom old. I've been in and around various fandoms, on tumblr and in lots of other online spaces, for multiple decades. I used to dwell in Western fandom spaces in the era when TV and book series were much, much longer and people had flame wars and knock down, drag out fights over canon interpretations that lasted for literal years. In comparison, today's version of fandom bickering is much milder, and extreme sensitivity about even the gentlest of critical analysis is just silly to me. In terms the youths will understand: some of y’all wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me.

I’m not here to be popular with everyone (that’s not possible nor a healthy goal). I’m here to write about the things I care about and connect with other folks who also enjoy discussing those things in a similar or complementary fashion. If that’s not you, and you want to unfollow or block to protect your peace, that’s completely fine and I’m not holding a grudge.

So let me be clear. Once I've blocked or been blocked by someone, I am not bothered about what they're saying or doing. I'm not squatting on their blog on the web to read their posts. I'm not asking friends to keep tabs on their commentary so I can respond to it. I'm not creating side blogs or burner accounts to slyly continue following them. I'm not going on anon to send them mean asks. All of that is weirdo behavior and deeply disrespectful of a boundary that’s been set. Once I've blocked you, or you've blocked me, I am just not thinking about you at all.

there are endogenics without a CDD who are respecting CDD exclusive spaces! they should be supported and left alone - what's wrong with someone doing something to benefit themselves without harming others?

CDD exclusive spaces should be a thing but all inclusive spaces should also be a thing! there's mutual benefits in alliances and we have bigger demons we can fight together!!

tumblr shouldn't be your primary source for information on CDDs - see a therapist and read research papers it's not beneficial to you to only use tumblr for your information

we are human and we make mistakes! sometimes people are wrong about things and that's okay! normalize being wrong sometimes!!

being chronically online and internet obsessed should be taken more seriously - an addiction is an addiction even if it is syscourse!

anti endos are traumatized individuals and that should be taken into account more when engaging in debates!

syscourse isn't everything and if someone upsets you online, you don't have to reply sometimes it's better to block and move on!

syscourse in general should be kinder!!

From my understanding, people are allowed to express discomfort no matter where they are as long as they communicate in a non-aggressive manner. You can't just demand I leave the group or place like "If you can't stand someone smelling like rotten cheese, being messy or talking loudly, why don't you just scram?"

In cases like I have to work and live in a place far from home, you can't expect me to just move out and instantly find a place where I get to be around people I could jive with. I can't just leave Tumblr all because I struggle to communicate with the weird kid who's having a meltdown. This is also the only place where I get to keep touch with some of my friends and gain attention on my projects. I have nowhere else to go!

Because other people exist and you need to be mindful of how you're coming off to others. It's important we communicate our differences in a civil manner.

Don't be offended if someone tells you not to flap your arms, yell in public, play music on loudspeaker, and leave your things all over the place. Don't take it the wrong way when we suggest you take a break from social media and stop posting concerning stuff after a terrible meltdown. It's an act of concern so you don't end up hurting yourself and those around you.

If you're one of those people who had to tell the odd kid off, avoid any insults or personal attacks. Don't quickly shut them down and tell them to scram otherwise you're just gonna make them act worse. Try asking what's wrong. Avoid raising your voice at them when you know they're throwing a fit, refrain from judging them (ie. "Can you tell me why you act so childish and annoying?") and please, for the love of God, don't spam report their account or call the police when they're in distress. Take them to a safe, quiet place where you can talk to them in private.

asking people to be mindful of others when sharing a communal space (especially one you cannot just up and leave from) is not selfish or misanthropic. come on now

twitter adding a massive amount of completely random (and often negative or upsetting) tweets to the for you page and removing the context for why relevant tweets are there and instagram actually removing posts from your feed after you've seen them so it can say "you're all caught up" and show you posts from people you don't follow have rendered both almost unusable

PSA Regarding Hateful Anons

Tumblr recently made it a requirement for you to be logged in to send asks anonymously. If you receive a hateful ask, don’t publish it - report it to Tumblr. It can be traced back to the user that sent it and with enough reports that person’s account will be suspended.

Share to raise awareness but also to make the clowns who think this behaviour is acceptable think twice before acting brave behind the guise of invisibility.
