i know u n ur thing w roleswaps, but have u ever done something like role rotations? i did it to my trio ocs n its been rlly fun haha, n i got 2 thank u for the rabbit hole ive gone that is swapping changing n or flipping about roles
Always happy to spread the roleswap gospel. I think I always enjoy it because it lets me separate who a character truly is from their place in the story, and it gives you a lot of flexibility in creating a new character who is still grounded in their setting. A lot of AUs change the setting without actually changing the character - and oftentimes it's honestly just taking a character and chopping off parts of them until they fit in a specific handful of roles - but a roleswap demands that you look at how different circumstances change a character. I find that when I'm not doing AUs like that, I'm doing AUs where I'm basically doing that and offering no justification or explanation for it. Which confuses people. Look, guys, you welcomed yourself to my twisted mind when you clicked on the link, just go along with the ride.
I think also The Magnus Archives was uniquely suited for really good roleswaps, because that mostly entails changing which Entity a character is affiliated with. And that's just taking the same character and magnifying a specific aspect of who they are, looking at them from a different perspective. I'm glad you're giving it a shot, 'cause it is also just a good writing exercise in general for figuring out the innate vs situational characteristics of a character.
Re: role rotations - yes, that's definitely what I'm doing with the Naruto roleswap thing! Naruto works in groups of 3, so by nature you're shuffling character traits to the left. This actually becomes difficult when one of these characters has nothing going on, so it's actually difficult as fuck to figure out, but it lets me get pretty creative.

I'm a bit baffled at the fact that there's only 4 works on AO3 for the tag Obi-Wan/Satine/Anakin (and only 14 for Obi-Wan/Satine/Anakin/Padmé)

It when comes to speeders or flying? Obi-wan hates it. He never feels in control or comfortable when driving. But he is the first to ride an animal, a more elegant and intelligent choice

Hiya!
First of, I really love your writing and characterisation of Obiwan and Anakin, and have found your thoughts on the excrepts you share (whether from the Rots novel or other classical works) fascinating. Your analysis has I think greatly informed how I understand, and in turn write about these characters.
I got curious then, what you - a professional understander of Anakin - would think what his ideal outcome of his choices would look like, unable to decide between his life as a Jedi and his life with Padmé? What did he want to happen once the war ended (without Sith intervention)? What did he imagine his happy ever after to be like once he shackled up with Palpatine?
the fundamental problem with anakin (and the core paradox at the heart of his character) is that while he worries about the future all the time, he also never thinks ahead in a serious, proactive way. he's not considering ideal outcomes; he's focused almost entirely on avoiding negative ones. he is not a person guided by hope but rather by fear, and that's the engine of his suffering and the heart of his tragedy.
as far as i've seen in any media, any "happy ever after" he has is a vague dream, which he only knows he needs padmé alive to achieve. he never seriously considers setting up a happy life for their family, or the consequences of leaving the order. i believe during the war he's existing in a state of cognitive dissonance where he believes can have both, as he never critically examines if that is really the case.
there are a lot of reasons for this, his childhood and the trauma of combt, but palpatine's validation of a myopic focus on avoiding his fears was a crucial compounding factor. palpatine's encouragement to rely on his emotions too made him into a completely reactive and malleable person, lashing out without a plan. he seeks power to stop death, not to create a happy life, if you know what i mean.
by the time he's impulsively killed mace windu and tossed his lot in with palpatine, he is not thinking of happiness at all, or ever again honestly. he clings to delusions of grandeur about a new empire to cope with the violence and betrayal he's done, not sharing Padmé's idyllic vision of raising their baby on Naboo, sitting in the green lush grass and swimming in cool water. then after he killed her? mustafar, fire, blood, pain, and death, that's all the life he can even imagine.

thank you either way <3
Thank you for the request! Hope you like it 🥰
Obiwan x female reader
Happiness
He was magnificent, his long limbs stretched out next to you. Half his body exposed to the sun that it illuminated the scruffy hair on his chest. He had his nose stuck in a book but his hand resting on your exposed thigh conveyed everything anyone needed to know.
That you were his and with you sprawled over his lap, you too sent out a message to the world, that he was yours. Beneath the umbrella’s shadow in this little cocoon of a world you both existed in, it was serene, like the waters that glistened calmly.
You reached up to run your hand up his chest having gotten bored just laying by the shore, you wanted to go out for a swim. You peeled the book from his fingers as you turned to straddle his hips. You took a hold of his hands, placed one on your waist while you let the other cup your cheek.
“We’re at the beach, not the library.”, you pouted at Obiwan as he smiled endearingly, his blonde hair in a mullet that he tucked the longer strands behind his ear.
“I don’t see a difference.”, he leaned towards you, his eyes darkening with desire as his lips placed kisses along your jaw as he edged closer to your ear.
“We get up to the same mischief hidden in the aisles, my love.”, he whispered, a secret between the two of you of how you met each other during the weekdays.
Your skin prickled as the cool breeze slid over you, but it was the heat of his words and the static sensation of his palm running down your body over your swimsuit that you craved the ocean water even more.
You gasped and pulled away from him but he didn’t let you go, instead his hand caught your throat as his lips captured yours. All your breath knocked out of your chest as he kissed you passionately, your fingers digging into his beard as you ran your hands lower down his neck.
He pulled away and you knew your cheeks would be cherry red. He looked like a teenage boy in love and it was all the more intoxicating. You got off him as you stood up, as did he.
“That was risky.”, you walked up to him, your fingers wiping away your lipgloss smeared on his lips while you were aware of his intense blue gaze on you.
“Why?”, he asked.
You didn’t meet his eyes, “Anakin could have seen us or someone from your council could have.”, you explained when he hooked his finger under your chin to lift it up so you would look at him.
“You know what they said about me, that I’m a distraction.”, you frowned and it disturbed him, that seeing you feel sad tortured his soul.
“They are wrong.”, he furrowed his brows as he held your attention.
“You are my happiness.”, he said with resolve and it only made your cheeks burn deeper. His hands settled on your waist as he held you close, his windswept hair making him look like a romantic hero straight out of the pages of a book.
“I cannot deny it anymore, I am in love with you.”, his blue eyes shined like the sea and you could only stand to watch him in awe.
You leaned towards him like a magnet and kissed him softly, his body relaxing under your touch.
“Now how about … we go back to … enjoying our weekend?”, he asked in between kisses as though he did not want to be doing anything else. To have his hands tangled in your hair and his lips eternally on yours.
“I don’t mind.”, you smiled to see he returned it with a wicked gleam.
“Perfect.”, he said but didn’t give you a second to react as he picked you up and threw you over his shoulder to then march down towards the water. Your laughter making him join along as you felt the cold splash of the sea and the endless warmth of his heart that blazed brighter than the sun.

Obi-wan had ...some awareness of what happened around him while he was the darksaber. It wasn't much, and Tarre's death decreased it more.
But it is enough that he knows Tarre didn't entirely have a choice in becoming Mand'alor. The memories are faint and blurred and distant. But he remembers how Tarre fought it, remembers that it was the Manda crying out for relief that demanded he become alor.
It is enough, that the moment his body reforms, Humanoid for the first time in millennia, he knows that Tor is a *threat*. That Tor is *dar'manda* for all that Obi-wan does not call himself, does not *want* to be mandalorian.
He is still tied more tightly to the Force than he should be, than it is *safe* for someone of his training to be. He is still a part of the Manda for all that he has no love for those who drove his parents to send him away in desperation.
(The Manda is the collective soul of all Mandalorians. There are more than enough mandalorians who long for, who believe in peace, that the Manda will cling tightly to those few who can serve as its voice. It would take far worse actions than Obi-wan Kenobi would ever consider for it to release him now that it has him).
It is a thought. Not one with intent behind it. Not yet.
The mandalorians, the ones who feel so like the Dark figures of his childhood, like those who grew his parents' fear until they resorted to sending him away, go flying.
Obi-wan runs.
-----
It is several long hours before he can separate his mind from the whirling chaos that is the Force, that is the Manda.
By then, he is exhausted. It is the work of desperation that sees him safely to a cave hollow which he can only pray holds no danger.
----
He wakes to the chaos still hovering on the edges of his mind.
It takes time. He has to remind himself to meditate first—and then has to do so despite the hunger gnawing at his belly.
But eventually he realises it is the Manda. Eventually he recognises it as the Manda.
A part of him wants to hate it. He can remember it. Faintly. From his childhood.
Remembers when it was a source of comfort that Grandmother encouraged every child in the village who was more Stewjon than Tuang to lean on.
He remembers too, when the mandalorians came and brought *their* Manda with them. The ice and cold that seeped into everything even in the dead of summer.
It is a relief to feel the light of a Jaieh, of a jedi master, on whatever planet he has been brought to. Even if they are like Tarre, he thinks, they will be able to help.
So I saw this post and brain started to brain:
I have seen multiple jangobi fics where Obi-wan is a personification of the darksaber. And it's a fun concept. So let's go with that.
Tor isn't dead at the start of the Year on the Run. But he hears that A'thonha Krys'e got a jedi protector for his daughters before Tor managed to kill him. And there's a very real chance that he'll end up having to fight the jedi.
And Tor is a coward.
The darksaber does *not* cooperate with him. If anything, it actively fights him. But he does have access to some ...interesting records.
There's a ritual, which doesn't actually require a Force user. The records say that it will make it easier to communicate with the dark saber. Tor, like most modern mandos, assumes it's metaphorical.
When the ritual is done, the darksaber is gone.
Instead, Tor's left with a jedi padawan that bolts the second they have the chance. More than one member of Death Watch thinks he's managed to curse them somehow.
------
The last time Obi-wan Kenobi was awake, both his master and Tarre's were dead. They'd managed to escape the sith temple, but not without costs. Tarre had been injured, practically blinded between the severed tresses and burns, and Obi-wan had been bleeding out. Neither of them had had their lightsabers.
It had been a *stupid* idea, but it had been the only one they had. Tuang blood or not, Obi-wan was still stewjoni and Force-sensitive. The stories Grandmother had told them said that before the tuange had come, Stewjoni could *become* kyber.
But Obi-wan had not been trained as a Stewjoni. His parents had sent him to the Jedi in a fit of desperation when they realised there was no hiding his Force-sensitivity from the mandos. He didn't know *how* to become kyber.
Somehow, he managed it.
-----
Qui-Gon Jinn is exasperated with the Krys'e heirs. Satine, made Dutchess far too young, wants peace even as she rages with an anger that reminds him all too much of Xanatos. Bo-katan is a traumatised child, and it is ...easier, in ways. He has taken classes before on helping traumatised children for all that it has been too long and he's never spent exte.ded time with a child who wasn't... wasn't his.
It is a very good thing that he is a jedi master. If he were not, then when he comes across a padawan, alone, in mandalorian space, without a lightsaber, and all too willing to kill—
Well. As it is, he still takes the first opportunity to trust the now three teenagers to someone else and go have a meltdown. (First *safe* opportunity, that is).

Firstly, I need you to you know that don’t let me lose you to the rising tide has me weeping over the concept of unconditional love. Like it’s so interesting to me because I was rereading weeding out wildfires, and you really tease at this idea of “obiwan would forgive anakin anything” and in the context of that fic that felt so dark…like Anakin would murder his lover and he’d still forgive him, Obiwan has a massive blind spot, etc.
But the tone in this…idk, it’s just immaculate. Because I don’t know if I would say that Obiwan has forgiven him necessarily, but he still loves him. I went to catholic school for years, was raised Christian, and it’s always this concept that God loves unconditionally. (And then it get complicated in Catholicism because of moral sins and hell and purgatory existing etc etc) but you’ve just— you single handedly, in the space of that last chapter, brought me back to being 5 years old and believing in unconditional love and it’s just beautiful. (Complicated bc Vader, but beautiful.) reading this fic was truly a religious experience
Aw this is great because it is also one of my favorite flavors of Obikin at the moment: where obi-wan would forgive anakin for anything that he could do, wrong or right, on purpose or accidental, and anakin Has Feelings About That (Mostly Love In Return)
by the end of rising tide, obi-wan hasn’t really gotten around to addressing or coming to terms with any of the stuff that has happened in the fic, post-waking up. all he is sure of is that anakin is Vader and Vader is anakin which means that he is already forgiven—or if not forgiven, then not abandoned. still loved, still treasured, still missed.
Obi-Wan is going to bend his moral code for that boy and feel guilt and feel anger when he has the time to really process everything (and importantly, process it with anakin next to him) like everything anakin did as Vader, what happened on meyset, the war, what Obi-wan did by killing that soldier, etc etc
so I agree the forgiveness bit is a bit more complicated because these are very real crimes and choices anakin made and committed and that would need reckoning. But I think this Obi-wan would look at that as a side quest to the main undertaking which is Take Care of Him, and for the both of them their loneliest nights are behind them now

Fic where Vader cries out into the void asking for Obiwan to come back as a force ghost. He knows that Obiwan can and is choosing not to speak to him. Until finally while in after another unsuccessful call for Obiwan to show himself, he comes to the conclusion that if Obiwan is one with the force then Vader can just use his power to conjure Obiwan before himself.
He is the chosen one, the son of the force. If he just wills it into being then it shall be done. So he concentrates his power on imaging Obiwan's force signature around him. Pulling on the sense of him until he can feel the ghost of Obiwan's skin beneath palms that no longer exist.
He opens his eyes and there stands a shocked, older Obiwan Kenobi. Looking the same as he did that day in the Death Star. Obiwan can’t stop himself from muttering a shocked “A-anakin”. Vader now being unable to hold in the hurt and rage. The misery fills him knowing Obiwan is dead and he is the one who killed him. He keeps him there and forces Kenobi to answer his questions.
There has to be something else he can extract from Obiwan that can sate the pit inside of him that he thought would be filled once he killed his old master. After needling obiwan, the real reason of his hurt and why Anakin turned comes out. The pain so visible to see on Vader even without seeing his face. Obiwan sees no reason to hide it anymore, he’s dead and what he says now will change nothing anyway.
Obiwan says he loves Anakin, that he’s so sorry he didn’t show him more while he lived. That he would have left the Order if Anakin had said he needed to free from his role of the chosen one. That the best parts of his life where the years where Anakin was by his side.
Vaderkin of course looses his mind from this. It’s not fair. It’s not fucking fair that he has all this power and purpose and loses what he wants every single time. No. He is stronger now then he’s ever been. Not as young and as impulsive as he had been 20 years ago.
If Obiwan is made of the force then Vader can control his form and what he feels. Maybe Vader cannot make the force become tangible so that he can Feel Obiwan's skin, but he can make Obiwan feel his touch. He WILL have Obiwan. No one can stop him now. He deserves something for sacrificing everything just to lose it all in the end. No... he will open Obiwan’s body and use the force to fuck his old master. Feel his pleasure vibrating through the Force and bind their minds together forever more.

Force ghost but it’s coco: every Jedi become force ghost after their death, disappear when ppl forget to believe in them
Some time into the great purge, almost every one of the ghosts died, as nobody dared to believe in even the very existence of the force. Jedi who were slaughtered in the purge never became force ghosts.
Obiwan existed for a long time because there’re Luke and Leia, but Quigon disappeared the moment he died on the death star—because vader, even though still remembered him, no longer had faith in him like he used to do.
Anakin, fuelled by the undying hatred of his victims, became something unnamable and ever-existing.

probably a controversial take but i don’t agree when people ship anakin and padme with other people.
like whenever i see people shipping r*xwalker, s*bedala (or god forbid: ob*kin, an*soka, ob*dala or ob*anidala), it always seems to downplay the love anidala canonically has for each other. they only have eyes for each other and no one else. for anakin it seems ooc asf that he would even look at someone else romantically other than padme. sabe probably does have a crush on padme, but even while reading the whole padme trilogy, it never felt like those feelings were ever reciprocated. while obiwan is literally like a dad/older brother to anidala and ahsoka is literally like their daughter/younger sister.
the “proof” the shippers for those other ships present are literally just examples of two people being really good friends and deeply caring for each other. platonic love exists. just because i would die for my family and close friends doesn’t mean that i want to fuck them yk.
