1. 271′s title: “Ichigo dies”. Checks episode count. “Um, yeah. Sure.”  Anyway Ulqui is all like “Look Hime I’m totally gonna kill Ichigo I’m serious, I’m totally gonna kill the main character less than 300 episodes in.

2. He does do a good job of making it look that way though, as he blows a freaking hole straight through Ichi’s chest. He sure likes to blow holes in chests.

3. Gee if only Ichigo had a love interest who could TURN BACK TIME WITH HER WILL. She immediately proceeds to save him with her awesome shield powers, though Ulqui stops her 

4. Thankfully Ichi’s other love interest is there to distract him while Hime does her thing. Noice job Uryuu, you’re killing it this arc. 

5. I’m pretty sure Ichi really is dead right now (since after all we have a Time Reversal Heroine, so Only Mostly Dead is all good.) 

6. DAMN ULQUI GETS UP CLOSE TO URYU AND MAYBE TAKES HIS ARM OFF. Anyway poor freaking Hime has to look at Ichi’s corpse and since she doesn’t know he’s the Main Character of a Shonen anime, she thinks he’s really gone.

7. Meanwhile the Battle of the Bishonens continues to rage. You know, this whole arc reminds me of the Overhaul arc from MHA a bunch (or obviously since Bleach came first that means MHA was cribbing from Bleach, duh). Hime is Eri, Ulqui is Overhaul, Ichi as Deku, etc. 

8. Anyway waiting for our poor truamatized heroine to pull that Backpack Healer 100% mode sometime soon. 

9. Apparently Ichi can hear Hime while dead and with a freaking hole in his chest. That’s some shippy stuff there. Anyway Ichi’s all awakened and shit and it looks pretty badass. THIS WASN’T EVEN HIS FINAL FORM. Also now he and Hime have matching hair!

10. Battle of the sexy demons now ensues with Skullface Ichi battling BatWings Ulqui in imagery ripped from Night on Bald Mountain. 

11. Ichigo’s bisexual harem follow the fight, sadly with only commentary and no cheerleader outfits. 

12. Ichi actually beats Ulqui and prepares to kill him. I wonder if he’s gonna stop himself, or if Hime’s gonna intervene?

20. HOLY SHIT what is that look on Ulquiorra’s face!? Regret? Remorse? What? Anyway some hole in the sky heals Ichigo out of nowhere. Well good at least he’s not “dead”. 

21. We get a brief Touching Reunion between Ichi and Hime before he notices Ulqui’s hurt and has a Shonen Love Interest Hurt Freak out about it.  Anyway Ulqui has decided to start talking again. And now he and Ichi are both shirtless. 

22. Ichigo is feeling bad that he stabbed enemies and friends alike. And ASKS ULQUIORRA TO CUT OFF HIS ARM AND LEG. WTF ICHIGO? That may be the single stupidest most reckless thing I’ve EVER heard a Shonen lead say and THAT IS QUITE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT.

23. HIME URYU YOU TWO BETTER SMACK SOME SENSE INTO THIS IDIOT. Anyway They get interrupted by something and Ulqui says “kill me”. OMG damn Ulqui that’s DARK.

24. Ichi refuses. Damn WTF is up with you Ichigo. Even Ulqui looks weirded out by this. Damn is he really dying?

25. He looks over at hime and says “I was getting interested in you people”. LOL have you fallen for Hime now too Ulqui? It’s ok, get in line.

26. We get an angsty series of Ulquihime flashbacks as he’s dying. Lots of which involve touching her chest. 

27. He reaches out to her and asks “are you afraid of me”. Hime of course ain’t afraid of nothing. He gets to die looking into Hime’s eyes? Damn what a way to go out dude! Look dabi is in the league of villains so we all know that he comes home a lot with injuries, usually of you home at the time he comes back your the one to patch him up. Dabi may act like he doesn't care most of the time but if he knows your sad or feeling upset about something he's there to comfort you.

Summary | Chapter 1

If Keigo knew anything, it was that he hated the Hero Commission more than he hated Endeavor. And that was saying something, considering his longtime idol was a child abuser. He hated that they made him into a monster. They took an innocent child and distorted his reality. 

Keigo decidedly hated a lot of things. 

But he couldn't hate Aizawa. Not after everything that's happened. Not ever, actually. The man was every bit the hero Keigo once thought Endeavor was. Yet, he couldn't help but feel like the teacher had ulterior motives. The two sat across from each other on a small wooden table in a secluded pub. It was just on the outskirts of Musutafu, which made it the perfect place for this kind of encounter.

"I want you to teach at the UA."

There it was. The ulterior motive the hero Hawks was trained to identify. Keigo cursed in his mind. He really didn't want to find a reason to be suspicious of Aizawa of all people.

The man had literally sacrificed an eye and a leg for others, for fuck's sake!

"Shota... I don't think I can. What could I possibly teach? I'm a monster... These kids need an actual role model. Not some bastard murderer with a hero title." Keigo's voice was small and quiet. He was miles from the great Hawks he was supposed to be.

"We've all done things we're not proud of, no matter how big or small. You did what you thought you had to do. In the heat of the moment, it was your only option." The older hero sighed.

Aizawa looked at the young man in front of him. He looked so broken and fragile. But he understood. Killing Twice, someone so vulnerable yet dangerous, weighed more than Keigo let on. The Winged Hero Hawks died then and there in Keigo's mind. And Aizawa knew it was taking a long time to heal from that loss.

"Look," Keigo looked up from the table, "Killing Twice-" He visibly flinched, but Aizawa pressed on, "That wasn't the best thing you could do. The man could've been helped. Maybe he could've become a great hero or teacher even." 

Keigo was about ready to stand up and leave at that. He wasn't going to sit and listen to yet another person throw his wrongdoings in his face. He didn't need it. His mind was cruel enough.

"You're right in feeling like shit. But I'd be more worried if you weren't. You're still a hero, Keigo. You saved lives that day, even if you took a drastic measure. Even if your decision was a horrible one." Aizawa took a deep breath. "You know it was wrong. You know it was cruel. But you had good intentions-"

"Hell is full of good intentions, Aizawa." Keigo gritted, hitting a fist on the table and standing up. 

Aizawa stood up as well. "Then teach those kids to not make that mistake. Teach them about good intentions and good actions combined."

With that, the older male went to the cashier to pay for their drinks. Neither of them had taken one stingy sip, but Shota still thought ordering drinks was the polite thing to do. 

The two left together. Being grounded was new to Keigo. Sure he walked every once in a while, but he'd be flying to his penthouse by now. He'd be soaring through the skies. The thought of the wind blowing through his feathers made Keigo look up to the sky. He longed for the day his wings grew back, then he'd flee and never return.

"I know that look," Aizawa's voice snapped him back to reality.

"The day I have my wings back..." The blonde whispered, "I'm leaving and never coming back, Shota. I'll be free."

"Will you?" 

"Will I what?"

"Will you actually be able to leave?"

Keigo stopped in his tracks, making Aizawa pause as well. Would he really be able to run away? Would he be able to just take flight and never look back? Keigo wondered if he'd have the guts to do that. 

"I don't know," He admitted with a sigh before starting to walk again.

"But I'd sure love to have the chance to find out."

On the other side of the world, Asa was packing her bags. She had very little time to prepare, and she wondered why the Queen and Santos hadn't informed her of this mission weeks ago. From Asa gather through the reports and files she read, the confrontation between heroes and villains in Japan was months ago. So why was she only being sent now?

She'd have to go through the other files Santos gave her. Maybe then Asa would know what was really going on.

"Asa!" Caique's voice rang from behind her door. Asa smiled softly.

"Come in, punk!" She shot back.

"Can you believe it? I'm Commander! I went from Captain to Commander!" He looked like a puppy that's just been given a new toy.

"Oh, shut up!" Asa laughed at his happiness. 

"So, my subordinate," Caique sauntered over to Asa, putting an arm on her shoulder, "My first order is that you let me kick your ass once." He grinned cheekily.

Asa rolled her eyes and pushed his arm off her. "No way in hell, babe. I've got a rep to keep, you know?" She winked over her shoulder as she walked to her closet to gather more items.

"Hey!" Caique pouted. Asa giggled at his face, shaking her head.

"Don't pout," She scolded playfully, "It makes you look five."

"Right, and you hate children," He added teasingly.

"I do not!" Asa shot back laughing, "It's them that hate little ol' me." She shrugged.

"That's not true," Caique huffed and took a seat on her king-sized bed. "By the way, I never really understood why I got the position and not one of the generals."

"Cause I've been preparing you for the position for three years now. I was gonna retire right before the summer festivities."

"Retire?! Girl, you're like 23! The fuck you mean retire?"

"I've been at this for almost 16 years, Caique. And I'm unhappy."

Her words silenced Caique. He knew very little about his Commander. Asa was strong, intelligent, agile, cunning, and charming (if she wanted to be). She was 23 years old, soon turning 24, and she was quite attractive. But that's all he knew about her.

"You never really told me how a 7-year-old became a soldier."

"And I don't think I can ever tell you. I can't remember it myself without having a breakdown!" Asa tried to play it off as a joke, but they both knew this was a sensitive topic.

"So, are you done packing?" Caique quickly changed the subject. It was her last day here, and he didn't want Asa to be tackled by ugly memories.

"Almost. Most of my things are already on the plane." Asa gave him a small smile. "I slept a total of zero hours last night. Santos was adamant that everything needed to be loaded onto the plane before sunrise. And I mean everything!"

"That man is wound up way too tight," Caique shivered. "Is there a way I don't have to deal with him directly?"

"Sorry, but that stick in the mud is your issue now." Asa bit her lip to stop herself from laughing at Caique's disdainful expression. 

"Thanks, that's really encouraging," His sarcasm made her lose her composure and laugh, "What's the mission anyway?" He looked at her attentively.

"You know I can't tell you that..." Asa trailed off, unsure how to keep her promise to the Queen without shutting Caique out. 

"Ah, you're right. If the Queen asked you to keep it a secret, then you must," Caique offered Asa a small smile.

Ever since they met six years ago, Caique and Asa were joined at the hip. Neither went into battle without the other. It was common knowledge among the guards and soldiers that one should never mess with either of them. Now they were being separated, and it already felt like they were miles apart.

A few more minutes pass as the two make jokes and chat. Asa began to think about how she could remember her last moments in Pindorama forever. She needed something to look at or touch every day. Asa never dealt well with homesickness. As Caique helped her fold some clothes, an idea hit her. She grabbed his hands, inspecting the many drawings inked into his skin.

"What's up? Why are you suddenly so interested in my tattoos?" Caique chuckled as he let Asa twist and twist and turn his arms around. 

"Let's get a tattoo together."

"What?! Now?!"

"Yes, right now. Call the artist!"

Keigo couldn't believe this was happening. He took Aizawa's offer and applied to a position in the UA High School. However, he didn't think they'd actually accept him. And he was even more surprised to learn the Commission authorized it. Had everyone gone insane?

The world really did turn upside down...

But here he was: sitting in Nezu's office and listening to him drone on about the rules, the teaching plans, and other things Keigo wasn't paying attention to. Shit, he actually got in. Now what?

"If you have any questions, feel free to ask Aizawa. I've put him in charge of your training. Please be prepared to start in April next year." Nezu smiled at Keigo, standing up to shake the blonde's hand.

After that, Keigo left the headmaster's office in a daze. The last six months were hell: grieving the loss of fellow heroes, dealing with his demons, going back and forth from the hospital and his residence... Keigo couldn't remember a time in which he felt carefree and at ease. And now he's shaking whatever peace he still had.

"What have I gotten myself into?"

"Probably your greatest challenge yet." Aizawa lazily lifted the corners of his mouth as he limped towards Keigo. 

"Oh, I don't doubt it..." He muttered to himself.

"Follow me. I'll give you a short tour, then we can head out for some coffee." Shota offered as he pointed his chin to the hall he came from.

"A tour would be nice, I guess..." Keigo shrugged his shoulders and followed the older man. 

Aizawa could be surprisingly chatty, it seemed. He showed him as many classes as he could. He took Keigo to see the event arenas and other facilities. Last but not least, he took him to the teachers' room.

"We prepare our classes here," The hero explained, "Over there, we have the cabinets with students' tests and reports. Next to that, we have the teachers' lockers. You can keep some personal items in there." 

Keigo walked over to the lockers, tracing the names of the heroes that taught at the UA. He recognized some of them. These lockers had belonged to some of the fallen heroes. Keigo's back ached with phantom pain. Seeing those names triggered the torturous memories from six months ago.

"They haven't had the heart to remove the names," Aizawa explained.

"They shouldn't." Keigo placed his fingers over Midnight's name tag, "She'd want us to remember her."

"Other teachers survived and will be returning."

"They won't be the same."

"No one's the same."

"Nothing's the same. Everything and everyone is different," Keigo sighed, "And different is bad."

"Different allows growth."

"So it seems." Keigo scoffed at his own words. 

Was he even still capable of that? Growth was such a foreign concept for someone who was fabricated. Oh, the irony. He was built from scratch, molded to the Commission's wishes. He "grew" under their supervision. Would he have grown at all if they hadn't taken him in?

"How about that coffee?"

"I think I'll pass. I want to start working on the material I'm gonna present in class."

"I suggest a more hands-on approach. Depending on which class you're assigned to, theory won't get you anywhere. I speak from experience." Aizawa thought of the many setbacks a specific class had due to the students' tempers.

"Right. Still, I'd like to-"

"Form a strategy? Make a plan? You're not patrolling, and you're definitely not in an undercover mission. This is teaching," Aizawa paused, trying to think of the right words, "You need a base, but you're gonna have to improvise from time to time. And these are teenagers, not villains. The most they can do is piss you off." He smirked teasingly.

"Got it," Keigo answered simply, already flipping through a book on teaching methods he found lying about.

Aizawa rubbed his face, watching the ex-hero with something akin to pity. The boy had never been a real teenager. How was he supposed to deal with so many of them at once? He'd need a lot of support, that's for sure.

The two sat at the table near the pantry. Keigo was reading aloud some parts of the book he found, asking Aizawa for his input. Whenever the older hero gave a tip, Keigo immediately recorded it on his phone's note app. Halfway through the fourth chapter, Principal Nezu walked in.

"Aizawa, I just received great news from Tokyo!" His ears twitched in excitement.

"What news?" Aizawa raised an eyebrow.

"The Prime Minister has successfully contacted Pindorama. They're sending the hero we discussed last week. She'll be arriving next week!" Nezu informed with a smile.

"You mean the one with the practically extinct quirk?"

"Yes, exactly."

"I heard she was trouble."

"Oh, I doubt she'll be a burden to us."

"Sorry to interrupt," Keigo lifted his head from the book, now curious about the person they were talking about, "Who are you talking about?"

"Oh! Hawks!" Keigo stiffened at the use of his hero name, "I forgot to mention it to you earlier, but you won't be the only newbie. A special guest is coming from another country to help with things around here. She has a very rare quirk, which will greatly help us as a country bounce back from the events of March." Nezu beamed, folding his paws in front of his chest.

"What kind of quirk?" Keigo squinted his eyes.

"It's of a healing nature, but no one is sure of how it works," Aizawa explained, "There's not much written about this quirk. The only group of people that knew everything about it are all gone." He slumped in his seat, feeling sleepy already.

"So, there are no records on it? How can we trust this stranger?" Keigo frowned. 

"That's a reasonable question," Nezu lifted himself onto one of the vacant chairs and looked at Keigo, "But there's no need to worry. She's a show of the alliance between the two countries. If anything goes wrong, it'll be a war declaration."

"That just makes her even more dangerous. I don't think we should let someone so-" Aizawa interrupted Keigo by clearing his throat.

"Rest assured, Keigo, that she won't be a problem to any of us," Nezu added. He smiled widely once more before hopping off the chair and bidding the two heroes goodbye.

A few minutes passed as Keigo continued to read the book and ask Aizawa questions. Meanwhile, the raven-haired man was fighting to stay awake and help the young man understand the methods and concepts. But he had drained himself during his physiotherapy session that morning. He needed a nap, or he'd pass out right there.

Sensing the older man's tiredness, Keigo decided to excuse himself. He told Aizawa he'd continue reading at home and that he'd take notes of any doubts that might surface. After packing his things, Keigo bid the teacher goodbye and left.

The next time the two men met, Keigo was at the school to look for more teaching supplies. They greeted each other at the gates with a quiet nod each. Aizawa seemed better, stronger, Keigo noted. Maybe his physiotherapy sessions had been paying off. Eri's contribution probably helped too.

Aizawa had once told him that Eri wanted to heal him and give him his wings back. But Keigo had refused. He didn't want them back, not like this. Hawks died, and if Keigo had any say in it, he'd stay dead. So, if his wings grew back, he wanted to earn them and start anew.

For days, he and Aizawa would sit together near the pantry in the teacher's room. Keigo would read excerpts from teaching books or bring teaching plans and ask for Aizawa's input. Day in and day out, the older man would reassure the blonde that the material was suitable. And day in and day out, Keigo would create different versions on the same plan. He swore they were only backups in case he forgot to prepare for a class or something. But Shota Aizawa knew very well that the young man was scared of messing up.

After what happened in March, Class 1-A was going to need a lot of support. So Aizawa often found himself praying to a whatever higher energy that they'd be okay. That every student and teacher would find solace in being a hero and saving lives. He prayed for everyone to find a way to cope.

These prayers always startled Shota. He wasn't religious at all! He never cared about gods or spirits or ancestors. But he sure as fuck hoped that something was watching over them and that things would be fixed. He knew better than anyone how naive thinking like this was. But he also knew it was better than wallowing in self-pity.

Yet, Aizawa felt like Keigo would be the one getting support from the students.

Aizawa just wished Keigo would accept any form of support.

"Ready when you are, Siren!" The pilot yelled over the radio system of the plane, "We are one minute away from the drop-off point!"

"Roger that, Captain!" Asa shot back, preparing her equipment and adjusting her suit.

Her first mission was to infiltrate the HPSC building and bug the president's office. If she had time, Asa was going to try and bug any other high-ranked offices too. She had to be precise and fast. One slipup and the whole mission could be compromised. 

Once they reached the drop-off point, Asa removed her protective headset and put on her goggles. She waited for the crew to open the plane's doors while she made sure everything was ready. The plane's doors opened, and Asa saluted the soldiers behind her before throwing herself out of the plane.

Asa had missed the exhilaration of jumping into the night. She forgot how thrilling it was and how powerful she felt. The dropping point had been 14000 feet (around 4267 meters) high, so Asa had about a minute of free-falling before she could open her wings. Having done this many times before, Asa successfully landed on top of a building south of the HPSC headquarters. 

She retracted her wings, thankful for her suit being backless, and prepared to jump onto the next building. They dropped her off a little away from the premises to not alert any busybodies. 

Asa wasted no time getting to work. In just under 10 minutes, she had made it onto one of the windows on the 14th floor of the HPSC's building's south side. And in less than 20 minutes, Asa had located the president's office.

Asa managed to open one of the smaller windows and slithered in. She placed a bug on one of the far corners of the giant window behind the desk. She also placed another under the desk table and one behind a few books. Asa put the fourth and last bug under the clock that hung over the entrance door. After that, as quickly as she got in, Asa was out. She checked her watch. Asa had some time left before a helicopter picked her up at the designated rendezvous point. So, she decided to find the vice-president's office, or maybe a lab of some sort. 

Flying around the building, Asa used her enhanced vision goggles to see if she could locate any useful information. On the west side, she found a lab with the words "authorized personnel only" printed on the door. Squinting, Asa flew closer and found a way in. Smirking at her findings, she bugged the lab as thoroughly as she could.

Once she was outside again, Asa dropped onto a nearby building and sprinted to the rendezvous point.

"This is Siren speaking," Asa's voice was barely above a whisper, "Heading to the pick-up point." 

Asa dropped down from a building, disappearing into the night.

@papirouge You’ve blocked me, so I’m unable to respond to your response. I can’t say if this is actually going to reach you, but I felt it necessary to say all the same.

Firstly, to get the bit about Dark Waters (2019) out the way: IMDB has a parental guide so that people can determine whether or not it’s okay for them to watch. This is on all movies listed on IMDB. It’s not a thing where Christian movies are targeted. That being said, I don’t think I can call Dark Waters a Christian movie. It’s a movie based off real events, and just because the main character and his family are supposed to be Christian, it does not make the movie Christian. Regarding the “haven’t seen it” argument- no, I haven’t. Never said I had. But now I’ve watched 24 minutes of it and God’s name is used in vain twice. Yes, I do consider go**amn not only a cuss, but taking God’s name in vain. The main character himself uses Jesus’s name as a cuss. There’s also language in it, and considering the amount used in the first twenty-four minutes and IMDB’s listing, I’m going to say it only gets worse from there. This may have been depending on where you watched the film, as there are sites that remove stuff like that.

My point in bringing up the movie is that you freely accuse Christians of watching shows with content you have deemed unsound, yet you watched a movie with elements that other Christians would certainly have issue with. Things like using God’s name in vain (violation of the third commandment in the Ten Commandments) and language (which would be a violation of the verse “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth” Eph. 4:29). If these too are sins, then they should not be taken anymore lightly than what you bring up. 

You constantly brought up “You haven’t even watched it!” as an argument against IMDB’s claims, but can you say you’ve watched all the shows you call out other Christians for watching? If so, then good.  If not, how can you be sure that you’re accusing them correctly? I only say this because your original post really sounds like you’re going after BNHA/MHA, though you also meant in general.

Secondly, you accused me of a couple of logical fallacies. To double check, I presented the entire conversation to someone who is not even on Tumblr and has the ability to remain partial. His assessment was that the logical fallacies you claimed were not correct, but rather that the fallacy used was ad hominem. And I’ll own up to it. I was trying to call you out on hypocritical behavior. To be very clear: I do not care about you watching Dark Waters.  I do not care that you hold the opinion that you do. I do care, however, about the hypocrisy in your statements. Where is my Scripture for this? Certainly the passage of the plank in your eye and the speck in other’s comes to mind (Luke 6:41-42). And if it’s true you were able to avoid the cussing in the movie because of the platform you watched it on, how is it different than a Christian skipping an episode of a show they watch because they know it’s bad? 

Thirdly, you claim that you are on a mission with righteous anger. I would first recommend looking at what 1 Corinthians 13:1 says. “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or clanging cymbal.” If your mission is driven solely by righteous anger, you’re just making sounds. There is no depth to what you are saying. You can be speaking the truth, but it would not matter.  Further on in the chapter (v.5): “[Love] is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” Again, if you’re just so full of righteous anger, perhaps take a step back and ask yourself if you’re approaching this with love or self-righteousness. If it’s only fueled by anger, are you really doing this for anyone else’s sake but your own? To sate that anger? I’ve been there. I still will go there. I’ll know I’m right about something and I can have an initial reaction to pound out a response steeped in how right I am and it’ll be fueled by the anger of seeing the other person be so wrong about their stance on the given topic according to Christianity.  I have posts way back that reflect that. But just because I was angry about the right things, doesn’t mean I was right in holding that anger and using it to prove my point. And honestly, there’d be no love in a response from anger. There wouldn’t. Love isn’t wishy-washy. Love is powerful and there is a way to take a firm, passionate and strong stance while still being loving. But if righteous anger is the only thing driving that passion, the lack of love shows and 1 Corinthians 13 stands ignored.  Consider that the Bible says the Lord Himself is slow to anger. How righteous is anyone’s anger if it comes so quickly and ready to get on anyone’s case? 

Furthermore, you like to use Jesus’s anger at the temple to justify your own anger.  You also use Psalms to further justify it.  But Psalms isn’t a justification for actions done in anger, especially actions that prove damaging.  Even Jesus’s actions in His godly anger were with clear thought.  He went in with clear intentions of His goal and how to accomplish it.  As it is, I’m having a hard time finding the situations comparable.  Constantly getting on someone’s case regarding their media consumption is not the same anger as Jesus driving the marketplace out of the temple.  Cussing someone out (again, I consider go**amn to be a cuss) is not the same as Jesus quoting Scripture to summarize the situation.  As it is, the passages regarding Jesus at the temple don’t mention Him being angry.  We can assume it, but the lack of mention of His emotion means that wasn’t the important part.  The justification for His actions were in His stance on Scripture.  Not in His anger.

Furthermore, for someone on a mission, you do not seek discussion. You do not seek to persuade. This is evidenced by the fact that you’ve blocked me from answering you. You claim that your message is only for those who hear, and your actions say you do not want disagreement or discussion. How is this Biblical? Many passages would disagree with this. We are commanded as Christians to love our neighbor as ourselves (Gal. 5:14) and we were told that the world would know that we are God’s because of the love we have for each other (John 17:23).  But how much love do we have for each other if we’re blocking over disagreement?  Why should you have discussion with others? As Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” If you have a message to share, if you see a problem in the Church, why would you not want discussion? If you hold to the verse, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear,” there should be recognition that it goes both ways. The other person may have something for you to hear yourself.  And if this is your mission, if this is your ministry, then from someone who has heard this many times from people who have done ministry for longer than I’ve been alive, one of the biggest rules of ministry is that you need to be ready to learn. If no discussion is possible, what is is your mission? To be right? Paul himself said that he did what he could to persuade people. Heck, if you go to Acts 17:16-17, you’ll find that Paul reasoned with the synagogue leaders over a matter that distressed him. He did not go in there, proclaim the problem and then promptly turn away so that there was no discussion. If you are on a mission, if you have a message to give, then there should be discussion.

We do have spiritual weapons.  But self-righteous anger isn’t one of them. Scripture, however, is. And it is because of the Scripture that I presented above that I find your rant hard to swallow. Not because I don’t think you have a message to give, but rather because you want it done your way. Believe it or not, I agree with you that Christians should look at their media consumption more carefully. I agree with you that there’s a spiritual battle that many Western Christians don’t see. I think there’s a discussion to be had there. I don’t agree with you that your personal visions and convictions are the convictions of the entire Church (1 Corinth. 8 talks about rights and stumbling blocks, how those with a weaker conscience shouldn’t be looked down on, but at the same time it does not condemn those with a stronger conscience taking certain liberties). I don’t agree with your approach to the matter, with all the righteous anger and dismissing those who do not immediately accept your message. I find that unBiblical. I find it damaging, especially to those who struggle. I find it tears people down instead of building them up.  Just because your message is grounded in Scripture, doesn’t mean the rest of Scripture can be ignored so you can proclaim it how you want.  Just because you might have truth doesn’t mean you have the right to use it to damage.  In proclaiming the truth, in denouncing evil, in hoping to set the record straight, you need to examine yourself to make sure it’s not just your message that’s in line with God, but also your attitude and your actions.

Wondering what anime to watch now that the jam packed summer season is over? Never fear, we’re into the fall, and there’s even more great shows this season! It’s my last rec list of the year so we’re in the home stretch now!

New shows!

Chuubyou Gekihatsu-Boy (Outburst Dreamer Boy): A comedy in which a normal girl just wants a peaceful high school life, but finds herself surrounded by a group of ridiculous, overly dramatic boys who are all part of the “hero club” who try to make her school life better by helping her make friends. This is all well and good, but all the boys are delusional in one way or another. For example, one thinks he and his friends are basically Power Rangers, and another is obsessed with fabricating dramatic fake anime backstories for himself. It’s Ouran High School Host Club without the hosting. It’s absolutely hilarious, but it’s really flying under the radar because it’s not on Crunchyroll.

Kabukichou Sherlock: A surprisingly comedic modern version of Sherlock Holmes that takes place in the seedier portions of Japan in which a bunch of the city’s quirky detectives try and hunt down Jack the Ripper. I was not expecting this to be nearly as good as it was. The characters are great, Mrs. Hudson is a transvestite cabaret singer, the soundtrack is bomb, it’s an original anime by Production I.G. AND SHERLOCK EXPLAINS HIS DETECTIVE PROCESS THROUGH MYSTERY SOLVING RAKUGO!!!! 

Babylon: NO, NOT FATE BABYLONIA! This is a mystery/thriller involving a case of illegal clinical research for a pharmaceutical company that leads down a rabbit hole full of murder, suicide, and political intrigue. IT’S LIKE DEATH NOTE AND MONSTER HAD A BABY AND IT’S FREAKING AMAZING! I haven’t been this interested in a mystery/crime anime since Erased. The first episode will definitely leave you...hanging…. The only problem is it’s not on Crunchyroll, so I have a feeling most people won’t know about it because it’s on freaking Amazon Prime!

Hoshiai no Sora (Stars Align): A coming of age sports anime in which a boys soft tennis team sucks so bad that the school will disband them if they don’t win a tournament. And the team captain is so desperate for serious members, he literally pays his childhood friend who recently moved back into town to play on the team. And said childhood friend has an incredibly interesting backstory and struggling family life that ropes you in right away. How is soft tennis different from regular tennis? No clue, but this show is awesome! You can tell by the first episode it is going to be a great coming of age story, with more mature themes of abuse and class difference.

And it’s not the only sports anime with Sora in the title...

*Ahiru no Sora (Sora the Duck): Another sports anime, in which a short, spikey haired boy wants to play basketball (yeah yeah very original) but discovers that his high school basketball team is full of punks! It’s basically what would happen if Izuku Midoriya wanted to be a basketball player. The first few minutes are basically every sports anime you’ve ever seen, BUT it really lives up to its potential by the end of the first episode. It has a likable protagonist, good animation, and the female characters all wear realistic clothes to play basketball in! If you’re a piece of sports anime trash like me, this is definitely the show for you!

No Gun Life: In a detective noir world where everyone has basically become a cyborg, a guy with a gun for a head works to uncover the plans of an evil organization.  That’s it, that’s the whole thing. It’s made by Madhouse AND IT’S A CYBORG WITH A GUN FOR A HEAD! What else do you need?!

Beastars: IT’S JUST ANIME ZOOTOPIA! I’m not even kidding. It’s a school based mystery involving anthropomorphic animals who are faced with the murder of one of their classmates and the disruption of the peaceful coexistence of all types of animals in the school. It involves the whole predator vs prey dynamic and how appearances are deceiving, all with a jarringly serious tone considering everyone’s an animal. The only thing that doesn’t sit right with me is the use of 3D animation...which I notoriously despise no matter how great the show is. But even I am willing to put aside my hatred to keep watching this anime. The characters are interesting, it’s shot really creatively, and I love how ridiculously seriously it takes itself. Apparently it’s going to be on Netflix at some point.

*Shin Chuuka Ichiban (True Cooking Master Boy): It’s Food Wars’ less porny sibling that takes place in 19th century China, where a young boy named Mao is a master chef who travels around spreading his love for cooking! This is a reboot/continuation of an anime based on a manga from the 90s so there’s a really fun retro art style that’s nice to see updated. Apparently it picks up in the middle of the original story, but I haven’t felt like it’s necessary to see the source material to enjoy it or understand it. Also the soundtrack is bomb! It’s a great shounen to watch if you want more cross-cultural cooking anime that’s not straight up porn in your life, and it will definitely make you hungry!

*Chihayafuru season 3: This is an incredibly fantastic underrated sports/club anime about a girl named Chihaya who struggles to find members for her karuta club after her best friend who made her fall in love with the game moves away. Never heard of “karuta”? It’s a physically and mentally challenging traditional Japanese game involving 100 poems written on cards that the players must memorize and locate before their opponent….it makes more sense when you see it I promise. This show is goddamn amazing, with incredibly realistic characters, an amazing game that most people don’t know about, gorgeous animation. It’s hilarious, it’s dramatic, it’s sad, and it’s uplifting all at once. 

This doesn’t premier until October 23, (so you’ve got time to binge the first 2 seasons!) but this is by far my most anticipated show of the season and quite possibly the entire year! I’VE BEEN WAITING SO MANY YEARS FOR ANOTHER SEASON, AND I’M SO PSYCHED!

Kono Oto Tomare (Stop this Sound) season 2: Speaking of club related anime, in case you missed the first season earlier this year, this is an anime about a boy who tries to recruit members for his high school koto club after all his senpais graduate. What’s a koto club you ask? It’s a large Japanese string instrument that no one cares about or plays anymore of course! Their club is endearingly terrible, with literally only one competent person on the team, but they’re aiming for nationals anyway, because...of course they are. This show seems pretty textbook at first, but it really grows on you the further you get. There are great character dynamics, it’s fun, it’s sweet, and there’s cool music that people don’t hear a lot of! If you like sports or club focused anime, give this one a chance!

*Dr. Stone: An action adventure in which all of humanity is mysteriously turned to stone one day. When a genius high school boy named Senku and his….not so genius friend Taiju awaken 3,700 years in the future, the two must rebuild civilization and turn the world back to normal with the power of science! I know pretty much everyone is watching this already, but I just want to reiterate how amazing it is. It is mysterious, educational, hilarious, and it really makes you think about civilization as we know it today. It was one of the best (if not the best) new show of the summer, and I’m so glad it’s getting a full run!

Vinland Saga: THE VIKING ANIME IS GETTING A FULL RUN!!!!!!!! In case you missed this gem in the summer, it’s a historical drama about a young boy named Thorfinn and his journey to avenge his father’s death and become a great warrior. And it’s all while traveling with his enemies through Northern Europe. It’s a fantastic dark, realistic story in a historical setting that filled the void left by Dororo. Plus it’s animated by Wit, so it looks beautiful. The music is great, the characters are intriguing, the story is interesting, AND IT HAS AN AMAZING ANTAGONIST! It has hype written all over it, so I’m pumped for the rest of the season! Unfortunately, you can only find it legally on Amazon Prime, so that’s why no one’s watching it.

*Fire Force: The (unfortunately timed) action/drama where fire fighters with super powers must protect Tokyo from people who are spontaneously combusting and uncover the evil rooted within their own organization. It’s made by the same person who created Soul Eater, and it definitely shows. The animation is high flying and out of this world. It’s worth watching for the action alone. But be warned, the plot and characters are it’s biggest weakness. It will jump between gratuitous fanservice and hijinks and then rocket into moral dilemmas and disturbing situations with no warning. BUT I still like watching it for the action, and in these later episodes the plot has steered itself back on track a lot more, and I’m way more interested in where the story is going now. I’m hoping that means the second half will give us a better sense of the characters. It also has a top tier muscular waifu! 

*My Hero Academia season 4: I’m sure everyone’s already going to be watching MHA, but I guess I’d have my anime fan badge revoked if I didn’t at least mention this one. I may not read the manga, but I know this arc is going to be a good one! I firmly believe this will be a modern classic, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s really worth watching.

Hi! How are you doing? I'd like to request a MHA matchup if that's alright (a relationship partner and an unofficial parental figure, or just the significant other if you want!). Alright, parentally wise, I basically effective immediately knew who would be best for you and I give you, our lovely Emi Fukukado!

- This lady, let me tell you, is about to be all over you parentally.

- Her whole job basically consists of making people laugh, so she can tell when someone’s smiling face is real or fake.

- She sees right through that happy mask and immediately her heart says “No, this won’t do. The child needs to be happy.”

- From that point onwards, it has become her mission to have you smile a real smile at least once a day.

- She may seem ditzy and not good for parenting, but she is a teacher after all, she knows how to take care of kids.

- Becomes your #1 supporter, doing extensive research on all of your mental illnesses. She would never want to do anything to unintentionally harm you in any way and knowing is always half the battle.

- Is very just, kind towards you, understanding that this is hard to get through but she’s very patient and will never raise her voice at you.

- Wants to limit how much you’re bottling your emotions, so she tries to get you to talk about your day every time you come home from school. She makes it clear that you’re allowed to come to her for anything. She wants to know how you’re feeling because it best helps her.

- The nonverbal side is a little daunting for her at first. Only because she can’t help if she doesn’t know what’s happening. If it’s just a no verbal speech, she might ask you to shake or nod your head to her questions. But if it’s like no communication period, she’ll let you stay in bed, make sure you have your stuffed animals with you and just stay with you until you’re ready to talk. And, if you’re comfortable with it, she’ll hug you too.

- The good thing about Emi is that she’ll give you affection all of the time.

- She supports all of your hobbies, helping you to find the right wig or costume, good art supplies, listens to your singing. And have no fear, if you weren’t able to go full on punk before, you will now. Just because Emi doesn’t wear that herself, doesn’t mean she will not spoil you rotten and practically fill your wardrobe with leather jackets and dark clothing.

- Not to mention, she just loves your stuffed animals, and it only serves to love you as her daughter more.

- It takes her a while to adjust to the whole nesting thing and especially when some shiny things in the house go missing, but now she knows where to look if she needs said shiny things. And if she sees any shiny things while out on the job, she brings them home for you.

- Overall, she’s 10/10 supportive mom who will love you no matter what, support you, and always up to make you laugh and smile.

Now for your romantic partner, have none other than sunshine boi Mirio!

- The human representation of the sun is here to love you at all times and make sure you know it!

- 10/10 thinks you’re the most adorable person he’s ever laid eyes on.

- So, like any good extrovert, he roped you into friendship!

- Really loves to hang out with you and, like Emi, loves your stuffed animals. He thinks it’s super cute.

- In fact, the first date he took you on was at a carnival and it was purely just to get you more stuffed animals.

- Always brings you small little punk presents, whether it’s a cd from your favorite band, or an extra choker for you, he is all on board with that style and thinks it looks really good on you!

- Though, he won’t be too pushy with you. He is friends with Tamaki after all so at least with anxiety and self doubt, he’s all good on how to handle.

- With some of the other things, such as the bpd, ADHD and depression, he might need some help with. So, he’ll ask you about it, trying to get what works for you and what doesn’t, any signs he needs to look out for.

- Always has you eating lunch with him to make sure you eat, if you get hungry because you missed breakfast, he’s got a few snacks on hand for you. On top of that, he sends little reminders to eat dinner when you’re both at home.

- Rest assured, Mirio is on the lookout and making sure you’re taking care of yourself and he’s gonna try his hardest not to let you fall too hard.

- If at any time you go nonverbal with him, he understands. He’ll still be talking to you, but he’ll make it clear that you don’t have to answer him. Lol believe me, he’s got enough socialization to talk for the both of you.

- Super hyped for all of your hobbies. He wants to read all of your writings, he’ll go see all of the performances your choir makes, see your drawings, and he’ll love all of your cosplays. In fact, if you take that cosplay to a con, he might even dress up to cosplay with you.

- Need affection you say? Oh honey, it’s practically done and done. He has so much affection and love for you, just say the word and he will unleash it all upon you in words of affirmation and a lot of hugs and kisses.

- Overall, your relationship is filled with a lot of encouragement, love and support, you two look out for each other.

MHA Fanfiction WIPs (Update 5)

The Butterfly Continuity

- Butterfly - The big one.  My magnum opus.  Izuku is stalked by a mysterious villain that starts to make him doubt his own sanity.  Each new piece of the puzzle only brings up more questions.  The main one: why does it only seem to go after him?

22/30 chapters as I make this post.  Scene by scene outline complete.  Currently being written and published.  We’re in the home stretch.  Beware major character death.

- Distant Thunder - Takes place right after the events of Butterfly but I’d hesitate to call it a sequel.  Exists mainly to tie up a loose side plot the main story won’t cover.  Can’t give many details because spoilers.

11 chapters.  Outline complete.  There will be angst.

- Exit Light - A prequel story with young Toshinori and Nana.  A villain traps their town in all-consuming darkness.  “Consuming” in this case is literal. 

(Not directly tied to the events of Butterfly beyond a verbal mention.  Basically, I have this scene planned where Toshinori tells the basics of the story and I thought it might be fun to write the whole thing separately.)

7-8 chapters.  Major events outlined.  Focuses on the developing familial dynamic between young Toshi, Nana, and Gran Torino.  Happy ending.

Bio Dad Might AU

- For Kurou - For their own safety, Toshinori must remove himself from the lives of his long-time partner and newborn son.  But they’re never far from his mind.  For years, not a day goes by where he doesn’t write a letter or set aside a gift for their eventual reunion.  It isn’t until he’s spent some time with his chosen successor, a young quirkless boy named Midoriya Izuku, that Toshinori’s consistent dedication to his family is interrupted.

23 chapters.  Major events and some scenes planned.  Canon divergence fic.  Streamlined to the important stuff because there are already an abundance of fics like this and I want to focus on my original stuff.  Toshinko.  Family angst with a happy ending.

- Told You So - Izuku hasn’t decided yet if he wants to go public with his heritage. On the one hand, he want to make a name for himself, not just as the son of All Might. On the other, he hates to lie and lying about One for All is hard enough. Most of the people who know the truth will support whatever decision he makes. Sir Nighteye isn’t one of them.

10+ chapters. Basic outline complete. Internship arc.

- Son Rise - Rumors have been circling of a secret All Might lovechild for a while now.  A new rumor says that All Might will reveal the child as his successor at the next International Heroes’ Summit in Hawaii.  The rest of the hero community has mixed feelings. 

Or, “Izuku goes to another country with his dad and has a bad time.”

11 chapters.  Major events outlined. Shameless excuse for me to gush about how cool Hawaii was while also hurting my boy.  Some Toshinko on the side.  Family angst with a happy ending.

Borrower AU

- Missing the Trees for the Forest - Toshinori was convinced his cottage was haunted from the day he moved in. He could easily blame the missing objects and little bites in his food on pests, but that wouldn’t explain the faint sound of crying some nights.

10+ chapters, partial outline. Gonna jump between angst and fluffy like a seesaw. Idea originally by @abyssal-glory who graciously gave me permission to use it.

Miscellaneous

- The Necromancer - Zombie apocalypse AU.  An unseen villain sets hoards of undead upon Japan.  As a designated disaster-relief shelter and a small fortress in its own right, UA becomes host to both the heroes working to stop the onslaught, and several hundred terrified civilians, including several students’ families.  Supplies and space shrink with each passing day, and it seems like the end to the nightmare is nowhere in sight.  Someone is bound to take matters into their own hands.

10+ chapters.  Some events planned.  Family drama and angst.  Not sure if there will be major character death yet.

- All But One - Toshinori is given the opportunity to undo over two decades of suffering by going back in time and ending All For One.  And that’s just the beginning.  He goes on to use his knowledge of the future to correct errors of the past, and makes his new reality infinitely better than the one he came from.  Better in every way but one.

Used to be a oneshot, not multi-chapter.  Outline complete and writing has started.  Open to making it an au but not sure yet.  Based on a bittersweet post by @skygemspeaks

- Angel’s Egg - Orphaned babies showing up on the stoop of hero agencies is unfortunately not all that rare.  And egg the size of a baby is entirely unheard of. Is the child within just the result of an unusual quirk, or something of far greater, supernatural origins?

Kinda out there au where Izuku hatches from an egg and is raised by All Might.  That question is posed to me, because I’m not yet sure if I want to go down the mundane or supernatural path; I have potential endings for both.

- Hanakotoba (working title) - Toshinori always wanted a family, but he wanted to be a hero even more.  He figured the family thing would happen naturally, but as the years go by and it doesn’t, he finds himself sinking further and further into longing.  And then he finds the end of his sorrows in his own garden.

Hybrid Thumbelina/Princess Kaguya au prompted by @agent-jaselin.  This one is for sure supernatural.

- Two Sons in the Sunset - One of the greatest crimes ever committed by Japan’s villain underground is hidden in plain sight.  Same goes for the crimes of one of its greatest heroes.  The results of both find they have a lot in common.

AU where Izuku is a test tube baby created by villains to defeat All Might, but ended up being adopted by him.  He and Todoroki later bond over similar baggage with their origins.  Whether or not it remains a bromance of full-on tododeku depends on if I can get over my own baggage of writing romance.

- The one where everyone finds out - Y’all been hounding me about making a fic where everybody finds out about Izuku’s past so this is here to tell you I’m working on it. Might be a fic of its own, might sprinkle an arc into one of the other aus.

- The Arena - Class 1-A gets transported to a pocket detention by some villains and have to fight whatever else is there.

No chapter estimate.  Mostly just have the concept and some scenes planned.

The Assassins (A BNHA/MHA Assassin AU Fanfic)

Prologue-ish: 

Finishing the rest of his route, Aizawa Shouta can see the sun begin to rise. He begins to jump quicker between buildings, wanting to get to his house before those who worked early began to walk to work. He feels his landings become harder just as he's nearing his house. Landing on top of his house, Aizawa has to use his capture weapon to steady himself. Collapsing on top of his home just as the sun begins to rise, he takes off his goggles and sets them around his neck, sighing. He pulls out his phone from his pocket and sighs.

Time: 6:05 AM

3 Missed Calls from Hizashi:     1 missed call at: 1:23 AM     1 missed call at: 3:03 AM     1 missed call at: 4:53 AM

Knowing the man, it was most likely him just checking in on Aizawa. There had been a rise in night crimes, and just last week an underground pro-hero was severely injured. That, or he wanted to tell Aizawa about some kind of band he was listening to at the moment. Either way, he knows that the two of them, most likely, got no sleep last night. Standing up, Aizawa drags himself over to a window and opens it, silently entering his workroom. After getting inside, he turns around and shuts the window, trying his best not to step on anything that littered the floor. Exhausted, he mindlessly walks to his bedroom and flops onto the floor bed he and Hizashi use to sleep on if they hadn't showered after hero work. Quickly, he passes out.

"UP AND AT 'EM SHO-" Hizashi didn't even get to finish before a capture weapon starts to strangle him. He watches as an angry Aizawa looks up at him, eyes red, as his hair floats up. "Sorry..." He chokes out and the pressure around his neck disappears. He watches Aizawa's hair go down and chuckles. "One, you know the rule." Aizawa rolls his eyes and slips his head out of his capture weapon and lays his head back on top of it. Hizashi laughs, shaking his head. Living together for almost three years, the two always had a rule about having their hero gear on in the house. They didn't. Although they both loved not having to have the heavy, thick pieces of gear around their neck, they felt vulnerable without them. Thankfully, it was only while they were at home. "Two, you know you still have to go to work, right?"

"I don't know why. I expelled all of the students at the beginning of the year. I don't know what else there is to do at that place." He says monotonously. Hizashi shrugs. "I'm going to get my shower before we leave." As Aizawa stands up from his spot on the ground, he turns around to find Hizashi right in his face. He gives Hizashi a quick peck on the lips before maneuvering around him and heads to the bathroom.

"I have to leave early, so you have to head to UA without me," Hizashi calls after him. "You good with that?" He hears the shower turn on and sees Aizawa's head pop out from the door's opening.

"Early English class?" He asks, giving the man a raised eyebrow. He only now just realizes that Hizashi looked ready to go out in public, minus the directional speaker in his hand rather than around his neck. He sees Hizashi nod and shrugs. "I don't mind. I may come back early to get some shut-eye before tonight." He watches Hizashi roll his eyes.

"Couldn't you stay home tonight, Shouta?  I have my radio show tonight. And it's Friday. I think you should get at least one nights rest. I don't think the cops'll mind." He knows asking is futile, knowing his husband will go out and patrol no matter what he says.

"You know my answer, Hizashi." The man nods and Aizawa begins to retreat into the bathroom. "I'll see you later at UA, alright?"

"Alright. Love you."

"Love you too." Closing the door, Aizawa sighs sadly. He listens for the front door to open and shut before stepping into the warm water. He stands there, letting the hot water hit his back and lets his muscles relax. Quickly taking his shower, Aizawa dries off and puts on what he had on the night before, just the cleaner set. He had at least 7 sets of the same clothing. Grabbing his gear, he puts everything on before walking to the kitchen and grabbing some quick food before heading out the door, eating said food on the way to UA.

As the day dragged on, Aizawa was absolutely ready to go home early. Walking a different route home due to the amount of traffic he knows will be on his regular route, Aizawa follows the noise of commotion. He begins to walk faster, then he starts to run at the sight of fire and smoke. Not being able to see past the large group of civilians, he grabs his capture weapon and starts to climb up the building closest to the villain attack. He watches from above angrily as the sludge monster that had been terrorizing civilians for weeks suffocates a boy who seems around high school age. The heroes stand not too far away from the villain. They just...watch.

His quirk must have made the fire. Aizawa thinks, knowing the villain could use the quirks of any person he captured. None of the heroes must have the right ability to save the boy. Before he could swing down to help or ask what was going on, he sees green hair begin to run towards the villain. Aizawa freezes, stunned. The boy was running towards the villain while the other heroes did nothing. What is that kid thinking?

"No, you idiot!" Aizawa hears the pro-hero Death Arms yell, trying to grab the boy before he got to close to the villain. Not being fast enough, he misses. "Stop! You're going to get yourself killed!" Aizawa begins to jump down to the ground, using his capture weapon to help soften his landing, before running closer to the action. While doing so, he sees the kid throw his bag at the villain, making him recoil, before fruitlessly trying to dig the kid out of him. He hears the kid screen a name as the heroes begin to dash towards him, trying to get him out of the villains reach before he is taken captured too.

"Kacchan!" The villain begins to raise its arms to smash the boy.

Does he know the victim?

"Save the boy!" Aizawa hears Death Arms scream to the other heroes. "This thing'll kill him!"

Aizawa begins to come up behind the heroes, but a sudden blast has every bystander and hero cover their eyes. The heroes try their best to keep their footing, but Aizawa loses his and is blown backward into the alley between two of the buildings near the attack. Unable to see through the smoke, Aizawa keeps his eyes closed but ears open. That's when he hears...

"DETROIT SMASH!" All Might was here? Since when? Aizawa feels another blast of air hit him before he feels the rain. Murmers of the civilians about All Might changing the weather quickly come. Aizawa stands, rubbing whatever may have gotten in his eyes out and walks towards the heroes again. Making sure to stay out of sight, Aizawa stays in the shadows as emergency responders arrive and deal with the aftermath. He watches as the heroes, including All Might, are interviewed and photographed by news reporters, press, and the police. He also watches as the boy who had run stupidly towards the villain and try to save the victim get scolded as the victim gets praised.

As the chaos dies down, Aizawa watches the green haired boy leaves the area. Aizawa follows not too close behind. Even when Aizawa makes it painfully obvious that he was following the boy, he sighs and gives up, walking up right next to the kid.

"Hey, kid." Almost as if he had just appeared next to the boy, the kid jumps, looking over at Aizawa in surprise. "It's alright. Not here to mug you or anything... Just..." Aizawa tries his best to make his words not sound nearly as mean as he wants them to be. "I saw what you did for that kid. I saw him get praised while you were scolded. You didn't say anything. Hell, you never looked up. You alright?" The boy shrugs. Aizawa sighs. "You know, it's alright to be scared. A villain attack is never something to take lightly."

"I wasn't really." Aizawa looks at him in surprise. "I was petrified." Aizawa sighs, wishing he didn't have to do this but knew he had to. No kid should have done what he did today. It wasn't his job.

"Wanna talk about it?" He watches as the kid thinks for a second before he smiles.

"No, actually. I'm fine!" Aizawa knew he was about to do something he might regret. He knew that he hates what he's about to do. It wasn't his job to console this child. He didn't have to do this.

Yet he did it anyway.

Extending his capture weapon to the child, he wrapped him up and pulled the young boy towards him in, if somebody passed by would call, a hug.

Aizawa feels the boy tense, but then it goes slack and he feels him shake. He says nothing as the boy grips his capture weapon and lets out quiet sobs. The only reason he pulls away a minute later is that the boy did. The boy's smile seems much more real than it did before and it helps ease Aizawa's nerves enough to start to turn away, wishing the boy good afternoon.

"Thank you, Eraserhead." Aizawa freezes, turning back toward the boy.

"I never gave you my name, let alone my hero name," Aizawa says, watching the boy. The boy looks at him, scared.

"Oh, sorry!" The boy begins to ramble. "I'm sorry! I'm not some kind of villain! I promise! I just really like heroes! I know that a lot of heroes are only considered popular or something because they have flashy quirks and stuff, especially like All Might, but I also know about underground heroes like you! You're Eraserhead! You graduated from UA like the majority of top ten heroes, except Hawks, though, and you graduated with Present Mic too! He's the pro-hero that made his parents and delivery doctor's ears bled when he first cried!" Aizawa looks at the boy in shock as he continues to ramble.

This kid really knows his heroes. I wonder...

"Hey, kid. It's alright." He says, stopping the kid from panicking anymore. "I was just curious is all. Not many know about us, underground heroes. Not supposed to." The boy nods.

"Oh, right!" The kid blurts out. "You don't even know my name! I'm Izuku Midoriya!" He bows.

"Well, Midoriya," Aizawa says, gaining the boy's attention. "You should go home." The boy nods and turns to leave. Before he could get too far, Aizawa asks him, "Midoriya, can I ask you a question?" The boy turns around and nods. "What's your quirk?" He watches Midoriya freeze before smiling embarrassedly, scratching the back of his head, knowing that the man had no ill-intent with the question.

"I don't have one. I'm quirkless!" Aizawa watches him in surprise as he turns around and begins to walk home, rounding the corner that he was standing at. It's only when Aizawa gets a call that he snaps out of...whatever he was in. Taking out his phone, he rolls his eyes but presses answer.

"Hey, Hizashi." He smiles softly at the relieved sigh from over the phone.

"Shouto, you're alright! I heard about the smile attack in the city and I know you take that route home if you leave early because of traffic and I saw you on TV and-"

"Hizashi, I'm fine. They got him, anyway." The part that he had cut Hizashi off from registered in his brain. "Wait, you saw me on TV?" Aizawa asks. Hizashi could hear the slight panic in his voice.

"It was only because I recognized your capture weapon in the background. If I didn't know you, I wouldn't have even recognized it." Aizawa gives out a relieved sigh.

"Alright. Well, I'm heading home now."

"Stay safe!" Aizawa hums in response and ends the call. Turning around, Aizawa heads home for some shut-eye before patrol.

Arriving home, Aizawa goes to his workroom before heading for the bed. Turning on the computer, he looks over his emails. Making sure all is well, he's about to turn off his computer when an email comes through his assassin email account. He hadn't gotten one in at least three months. Opening it, it's from an anonymous emailer and has two pieces of information.

Cost: 10,000,000

Hit: Izuku Midoriya

Aizawa stares at the screen in shock. He immediately denies the hit and deletes the email.

He only had three rules. They were well known.

1. No kids 2. No pro-heroes 3. No major villains

Apparently, this person didn't care.

But why Midoriya?

Aizawa shuts off his computer, not wanting to worry about it. He denied it. He was one of three assassins in Musutafa. They all had these rules. He shouldn't worry.

Taking off his capture weapon and goggles, Aizawa walks towards his bedroom. Sighing, he falls onto the bed and almost immediately falls asleep.

He'll do some digging on the kid tomorrow.

Dabi: Analysis and Headcanon

So, I can’t really discuss Dabi at length without the Dabi-is-Touya thing coming into play, so I’m blending that headcanon post and my general analysis of the guy. I was going to try to split them into two posts, but much like my discussion of Stain and Endeavor they are too woven together in my mind for it to be worth doing. One post or the other would suffer for it. So... here we are.

So, I was first exposed to the headcanon via fanfiction, that I probably should have been reading when I was but here we are. We’re shown this guy for like, no time at all in season 2. Just long enough for his design to be intriguing. And tag diving and fanfiction filled out a few small pieces without revealing much that I didn’t know about the guy already.

So let’s talk about what we know about this guy. We know he feels strongly about the Hero Killer’s cause - not Tomura’s but Stain’s. We are deliberately introduced to him with that knowledge. This particular brand of ideology reminds us that he doesn’t actually just want to watch the world burn... though I’m sure he does to an extent, but he has something against false heroes.

We know he doesn’t like or have much patience for Tomura, but he IS willing to work with him. We also get a shot of him, in season 3, just kind of massacring several ‘small fry’ villains because they weren’t the kind of people they needed. ... Now there are multiple reasons this could be a thing. But it felt like a call back, in a sense, to Stain not liking guys who were just killing without conviction, because they were no better than the false heroes. It could also have just been meant to tell us that Dabi is “slightly” unhinged.

He made a point about not giving Tomura his real name, stating, essentially, that it would be revealed when the time was right. Which I found to be really, really interesting given on the surface that seems like an odd thing to want to hide because all the other Villains shared their real names with each other. (Barring Tomura, ironically, but they didn’t know that at the time).

Now it could be his way of separating himself from them because he doesn’t trust them, but it could also be because I’m pretty sure if you go around telling people your last name is Todoroki you get noticed, fast.  It’d be hard not to, given it’s clear that Endeavor’s real name isn’t a great secret - else no one would have been so certain Shoto was his son, at the sports festival.

But there’s something else I want to put out here - when the Hideouts were attacked, Dabi’s name was, as far as I can recall, the only name not revealed by the Heroes who had been investigating. Now they make a point near his entrance, of stating that Dabi hasn’t done anything “flashy” but let’s be real here, if he’d been doing flashy shit with that quirk, Endeavor would have known.

Which brings us to... the fact that we know his quirk consists of blue flames.

Does anyone else remember Endeavor briefly using blue flames? because I do.

Yeah, that’s endeavor, using blue flames to blow up the Nomu’s head during the Stain arc fight.

So it’s established that Hellflame can generate blue flames. I would consider it to be absolutely not much of a jump to say the Hellflame quirk could have mutated into primarily blue flames in one of Endeavor’s children. Cremation, or whatever we decide to call Dabi’s quirk, is essentially Hellflame turned up to 11. And being realistic we haven’t seen that many similar quirks. The only other ‘similar’ pair I have off the top of my head is Tetsutetsu and Kirishima, and they are fundamentally different in a way that “generating and controlling [differently colored] flames” just... aren’t.

... It’s far harder to find a good shot of endeavor’s eyes than I realized. Anyway, so the lighting difference is baaad, but look at this shot, and then look at Dabi up there - the eyes are not that far apart in coloration. In the second shot, in very similar lighting, Shoto’s teal eye is slightly lighter than Dabi’s but the coloration is, again, not very far apart.

Speaking of that night. Couple things of note: it could have been because he didn’t have to, they had what they wanted, but Dabi made no genuine attempt to hurt any of our three idiots rescuers - Shoji, Shoto, and Midoriya were merely batted away when it came to Dabi - now, Toga is another story but you know.  He didn’t have to, of course, he had the others to do it, and like Spinner he may have some small amount of respect for Shoto and Midoriya, at least, because they continue to selflessly sacrifice themselves to protect their friends.

But this does, again, highlight something pretty important - one, it’s a reminder that he believes in the hero killer’s ideology, and two, regardless of his apparent enjoyment in killing, he doesn’t actually do so indiscriminately.

There’s something else about this scene I found very interesting - he gets the ball holding Bakugo, narrowly stopping Shoto from grabbing it, says something like "That's sad... Shoto...Todoroki." and I feel like that’s the only name he used the entire time, despite the fact that Shoto is not the only one who’s well known at this point. It’s an odd thing to latch onto, but here I am. ... Also I can’t quite describe those expressions, tbh, because I’m terrible at it, but... something about them that I can’t quite get out of my head. *shrug*

So, moving on a little. Ages. The wiki gives Dabi’s age as ‘early 20s’ but I can’t actually figure out where that’s coming from. Even so, that gives us a rough cut off of 24/25. Toya’s age isn’t given at all. Shoto is the youngest at 15, Natsuo is 19, and a college student. Fuyumi is 22 and a teacher. Considering that was still early in their marriage, he could be 23/24 and that would still fit into the window of Dabi’s “early twenties”. So let’s call him 23, just a year older than Fuyumi, for the purpose of the rest of this discussion.

So the only thing this really left, for me, is ... why? I’ve spent a lot of time musing on that one, so hang with me here and we’ll go over the way I see it at the moment with the pieces of the puzzle that we have.

Touya would be the eldest Todoroki, he would have been the first to age out of that destructive house. But here’s the thing - he was the oldest he had to spend his entire life watching his father abuse his mother - all the way until Shoto was burned. He was a “failure”, but he was also the eldest, the one his father should have been proud of.

There could be an element of jealousy for the fact that each time a new child was conceived Endeavor looked to them to give him what he wanted. He was the first, he probably had his own cruel training early on, that may or may not have continued depending on his sibling’s quirks (we still don’t know Fuyumi’s or Natsuo’s.). Now, Touya was 8 when Shoto was born, which means he was at most 12 when Shoto was pushed into training and he got a reprieve - but he also had to shoulder the guilt of knowing what his youngest brother was being put through.

And then Rei dumped boiling water on Shoto, and the one source of love and comfort other than his younger siblings was sent away. But he was the oldest, he was supposed to be the strong one. Based on the flashbacks, Shoto was 5 or 6 when Rei snapped, which means... Touya here was only 13 or 14 when their mother went away. That’s pretty young to suddenly have at least two of his three younger siblings looking up to him because remember, Endeavor paid them basically no attention, Shoto was the one that mattered after his quirk manifested.

That’s pretty much prime placement for something like Stain’s ideals to break in. Touya grew up with first hand experience of one of the top heroes of the nation - and that top hero was by all accounts of his family a terrible person - at the time. I’m sure it took a few years, whether Touya stayed in that house with his family or he ran away as a teen before he came of age. 

But at some point after he got away from Endeavor, Stain’s ideals became known. And in the darkness of Touya’s heart, darkness that is born of his hatred for Endeavor, and potentially for the society that left him and his siblings to suffer at Endeavor’s hands, Dabi was born - because Stain was right. False heroes were hurting people. They were merely using their positions for their own personal gain. And Touya already bore the scars of a hero just like that so of course someone aiming to make it stop would be intriguing to him.

Forcing a rebirth of the world in fire and blood may be wrong, it may be evil from it’s roots all the way to it’s execution but the ideals that brought it on were put into place by MHA’s modern society. 

As for where it goes from here... I’m not sure. I look forward to seeing more about Dabi going forward. If I’m right, in reference to him being Touya, I suspect there will be some kind of conflict between him and Endeavor, whether he is recognized or not.

On the other hand, that’s one of those conflicts that’s likely regardless - after all Endeavor is currently our number one hero, thanks to All Might’s retirement.

I think my favorite part about this show though is that, for the most part, the villains are just as interesting and deep as the good guys.

Sorry, this might be silly. I have a twitter and I'm 23 and like a bunch if 16-20 ur olds followed me cause of fandom things and I talk to them very occasionally, like replying on twitter and make jokes about out common jnterest, but I have POCD and I'm starting to wonder if what I'm doing is weird? I've made sure to display my age on twitter now cause I don't wanna make young ppl uncomfortable but most followed me before I'd did that. I'm not doing anything untiwrd and keep my conversations-

-with them light and just about the movie we like. Like I'm very aware I'm older than those people and I watch what I say but I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable and I wonder if it's weird that I enjoy joking with them or something? I'm not even looking for friendship with them cause they're teens and I'm an adult and I make sure when I talk to them it's kind of at a distance like I'm not getting chummy with them, but is it wrong to speak with them?

Firstly, no, I don’t think it is wrong or weird for you to be talking to people younger than you at all! You share a common interest with those people and so you have found a way of communicating and celebrating that interest with other people, which is a really healthy activity for your mental health. You are taking all of the steps you can to ensure that people are not fooled about your age, and you aren’t using your age against them, you are also not talking to those younger than you inappropriately - I honestly see no problem with these connections you have made on Twitter! Please try not to stop yourself from enjoying the connections and friendships you have made or will make in the future - having this outlet and companionship is a really good thing, so we need to try and maintain this healthy activity without letting your POCD overwhelm any enjoyment it was/is bringing you.

I’m just wondering if you have ever reached out to a professional regarding your POCD?  The most effective way of dealing with these intrusive thoughts is to seek some professional help. A therapist or counsellor will be able to guide you into understanding your thoughts, why you are having them, and how you can learn to manage them. If seeing a counsellor or therapist isn’t immediately an option for you, you could go to your GP who can then refer you onto a mental health professional. I’m linking our page about getting help here because I know how hard it can be to ask for help and to admit the issues you are facing out loud. Professionals are trained in dealing with instances like this, and this will not be something shocking or ‘wrong’ to them, so I promise that they won’t judge you or treat you differently for going to them with these issues - you have nothing to be ashamed of, lovely!  You could call a helpline or use web counselling anonymously if seeing someone face-to-face is too difficult for you.

Intrusive thoughts like these can be super hard to deal with, but there are some techniques that you could try and use to help you manage them. The most important thing with intrusive thoughts is to avoid giving them too much power - easier said than done - but if you don’t give the fire and fuel then the fire can’t burn, you know? So, if you try and avoid milling over the intrusive thought and attempting to analyse it you are giving it the attention and fuelling the thoughts further.  This is not to say you should completely ignore the thoughts, but simply acknowledge the thought is present and then move on and try to distract yourself - try to picture them leaving you, like clouds moving across the sky or something similar, and this can help you to realise that these thoughts will pass.

Instead of repressing them, I think an important thing to do is challenge the thoughts - you can do this directly, or some people find it helpful to challenge them sarcastically, for example ‘‘Oh yeah, what a greeeeat idea that is!!’ or ‘‘I have so much evidence to support this thought... not.’’  These thoughts are not a representation of you; they are literally things that are intruding on your brain and have nothing to do with you and what you want/need, try not to give them any power, but still acknowledge that they exist!

Grounding techniques might also be something you could try? Grounding techniques help to bring your focus away from any intrusive thought, bring it back to your consciousness and back to reality. We have a page of them here! I suggest to begin with you try something like saying the alphabet forwards and then backwards slowly, or running your hands under really icy cold water.

Try to continue using Twitter and the friendships you have formed as a way of celebrating a passion of yours, having these connections helps to maintain a positive mental health. WHY I LOVE : JUJUTSU KAISEN

A/N: Hi, yes I’m back. I’m sorry for being inactive for 60 smth days and probably going to be inactive for another 2 weeks because of exams but it’s fine. <3 I promise I binged lots of animes and I’m back with more headcanons. Also, I’m not sure if you guys would like me to do more than headcanons, but do tell if you want me to. I started this as a fun blog and hope to continue that even though I’m always inactive lol. Anyways, here you go, a jujutsu kaisen rant! Ps: these are my personal thoughts and feelings, if you don’t agree with them then fair enough! ^^

UHHH REVIEW TIME! The main characters ;)

Megumi Fushiguro

Megumi is best sasuke trope boy. By far my favorite emo boy. Why? Well, it’s mostly because when animes introduce characters like Megumi they’re all emo and have to avenge their village and kill people and are ‘brocken’ or smth idk.

But jujutsu kaisen does the whole sasuke trope a big middle finger and makes Megumi a less tsundere, and broken character.

Honestly, I never expected Megumi to have this type of personality because most animes try to give his archetype the whole ‘their honest’ when in reality they are just rude and selfish. Megumi is literally honest. My guy had no problems telling Gojou that he wants Yuji to stay as his own opinion which if you asked any of the people under this archetype they would respond with ‘Ugh, just keep him alive okay?’.

Like he is honestly sweet and even when trying to force Yuji and Nobara to leave it WASNT for his own well-being it was for theirs. Literally is the opposite of Ray, Sasuke, and any type of character that is emo and rude. Also he is one of the few characters that deserves to be as powerful as he is because he didn’t get his powers because of ‘his burning rage for the person who killed his village as he tries to avenge them.’ And he also has a bad background but is quite an average character. I just appreciate him. :)

Nobara Kugisaki

AMAZING-

Honestly though, she’s amazing. My favorite character since she literally is a girly girl yet is powerful (nothing wrong with that, it’s just wow.), which hear me out.

Most shounen anime girls fall under 3 categories of female characters.

The useless damsel in distress that is a tsundere.

‘Another Naruto reference? Seriously Mochi?’ I’m so sorry my lovely reader, but Naruto is one of the founding fathers of all Shounen anime stereotypes. So yes, another Naruto reference.

First of all, I don’t hate this characters, I actually don’t dislike them either. That being said I don’t like them. I get this neutral emotion whenever someone like idk Sakura I guess is on screen next to Aiura Mikoto (Who btw, is another underrated female character that deserves love even though the anime is crack-y.). I guess it’s because throughout all of the Arc’s and episodes, Sakura hasn’t changed or developed or even learned from past mistakes. It sucks seeing character that could’ve had potential, being boring and just bad. Also she’s ungrateful for her parents for no reason, and that just says a lot about her persona. To be honest, most Naruto female characters are like this, and I don’t want to hear crap about Hinata’s character because she barely got screen time and the only times we see her is when the creator pushes her to be next to Naruto more often or if the whole gang is together. (I watched a bit of Naruto so I could be wrong about this whole thing but this is again, my opinion.)

The dimwit and clumsy/tsundere/strong female fan service

Oh look, it’s everyone’s ‘favorite’ Erza Scarlet from Fairytail. But whoops, her whole character is just her having cleavage. Or everyone’s favorite crime Taboo Tattoo (I didn’t watch it but most fans have come together and agreed that it would’ve been a decent anime without all of the fan service.) Or maybe the stereotypical dimwit character that is clumsy?

Yeah, you know who I’m talking about right?

I feel like some animes, that are 23 minutes long, would be reduced to around 15 minutes without all the fan service (not counting the Opening or ending)

(Also all the dumb jokes, but that’s for another time.)

Looking at how many creators complain they can’t go too in-depth with their OC’s, because they don’t have much time, but they somehow can fit in a whole scene of people literally having their clothes ripped off because of how ‘delicious’ it is. Yes, I’m coming after you Food Wars. Even though I am a big fan, that doesn’t mean I can ignore the flaws. I am fair and will admit that, as far as characters go, Food Wars is shallow.

Personally, mha is also another crime with lots of fan service of 15-16 year old girls. 😀

I don’t want to get into the heated Hero Hei debate wether this doesn’t count because they’re ‘fictional’ or if it does. So moving on.

Can I mention how much Momo Yaoyorozu could’ve been an amazing character with amazing development and a cool quirk? I mean personally, I hate how Momo is now just fanservice. This queen has an amazing quirk, went in through recommendations, smart, helpful, is class Vice President, heroic, tall, thoughtful, rich but doesn’t brag about it and is humble, and just a cool character that could be delved deeper on?

Haha nope. Boobs.

Like excuse me, I don’t think you understand, but Principle Nezu has more screen time than her. Literally her and Koda (Creati and Anima) could be so cool but no one ever acknowledges them. :(

And finally, the love interest.

Ochako Uraraka. That’s it.

Ochako really deserves more, honestly. I was hyped up in the sports fest. because she just showed off that she isn’t backing down, and now she’s just a mindless love interest.

Honestly, I don’t like talking about this topic the most because A, it’s controversial for some reason. And B, it sucks seeing these amazing characters being watered down to just a love interest.

OH BUT NOBARA? NOBARA?

SHE DOESN’T NEED ANYONE!

She’s fine on her own, thank you very much.

I mean best scene was when she was fighting Sabrina the witch and didn’t seem to care much about scars and she just debunked all of those things and I just UGGGHHHH- <33333

Like animes try so hard to have a feminist role model by making her tomboyish and mean and a tsundere and calls anyone that looks at her a pervert.

But Nobara isn’t any of that. Nobara is fashionable and powerful. She loves shopping. She loves eating expensive. She loves Luxuries. She loves proving people she’s strong. She isn’t easily scared. She protects, and I just love her. She isn’t your stereotypical tomboy or at least she doesn’t fall into the smurfette effect or smth.

Tbh, I was worried when she joined them. I said either she’s a tomboy who’s a tsundere or a soft spoken damsel in distress, but now that I’ve seen her, I know that Nobara is Nobara. And that you all should appreciate her also.

Okay enough of that rant lol, moving on to Yuji!

Yuji Itadori

I LOVE THIS MC!

Are we going to use stereotypes again? Yes we are!

Usually shounen MCs have the worst personality either being too bland (mf MC from re-zero) or just too much of a coward/weakling/pervert/happy-go-lucky character.

I mean, if we are going to have a strong character he has to be a pervert for some reason.

A respectful character is a crybaby/weakling.

And a happy character has a dark secret side and ‘OmG lOoK hE’s SoO sc a Ry!1!1!’.

And tbh Yuji falls in the rare category.

The category that isn’t a crybaby, perverted, 11 year old that looks like he’s at least 20.

That category is what I’d like to call. The Saiki K. category.

I love MC’s like this because they aren’t too shallow, but not the whole story is about THEM and THEM ONLY.

It’s amazing to see how they still have the same personality but somehow have went through a bigger character development than all those other MC’s.

(Not disrespecting your faves, once again this is a personal opinion-)

And the way he isn’t OP and actually has trouble and the way (Slight spoilers!) that we can see that when he asks Sukuna to heal yoshino and the way Sukuna just laughs and I just like how they didn’t make Yuji just ‘become OP through the power of friendship’ and just they accepted he was dead or how his hand was cut off and he accepted it but how when he was dying he actually cried saying how he didn’t want to die showing us hey, it’s okay to cry but please don’t cry when you win a prize or competition or something. (End of spoilers!)

Ugh I just love Yuji being an MC. Again, he is one of those few rare MC’s with interesting character design, and personality without overwhelming it or just underwhelm it.

Umfb&mha meta : Notre-dame de Paris (part 2)

   To complete our analysis (written in collaboration with the lovely @smutinator ) of the song “ Belle ” in the Rivals Serie by @kazliin we decided to take into account the other songs directly before and after Belle in the musical Notre-Dame de Paris to see if the lyrics/storyline match the fic as well.

   Belle is the 20th song of the musical I will talk about « A boire ! » (19th), « Ma maison, c’est ta maison » (21st), « Je sens ma vie qui bascule » (23rd) and « Tu vas me détruire » (24th). I ignored the songs sung by other characters than the three men of the song Belle ( Quasimodo, Frollo and Phoebus ) because I wanted to focus on the characters Viktor chose to express himself.

  Firstly « A boire ! » (It’s an interjection meaning “Give me something to drink!”), it is a song for which I thought the context was more important than the lyrics. In the musical this scene happens just before the song “Belle”. Quasimodo is tied to a wheel, hurt, and asks for help. Esmeralda comes to him and soothes him by giving him water, giving him hope that someone, especially her, can be kind to him. 

  I think we can link that to what happens in chapter 7, this chapter comes just before the “Belle chapter”. Viktor gets hurt, and, while we don’t have his point of view yet, he must feel tied out of the rink and frustrated to not be able to express himself through skating. As he was wandering, still injured an probably upset, he saw Yuuri skating to one of his old routines in the abandoned rink. I think it soothes him, gave him hope that there is more depth to Yuuri’s feeling towards him than plain hatred. By maintaining the mystery around him and suprising him once more, Yuuri gives him the water he needs to keep going.  

   Analysing the song coming right after “Belle” right now wouldn’t suit the UMFB storyline and would fit better if treated last so even if it doesn’t follow the order of the musical I’ll go first for the 23rd: “Je sens ma vie qui bascule” (I feel my life shifting). This one is very short it’s more of a transition for the next song and will be treated as such:

I feel my life shifting

Toward an unknown land

I see the crowd parting

as I walk the streets.

I am a man stripped bare

a man stripped bare.

  To me it shows a realisation, after chapter 8 he probably has no doubts left: Firstly he has a clear, irrevocable confirmation Yuuri hates him, secondly he’s already too far gone to care. By accepting to have sex with Yuuri in these conditions he embraces whatever relationship he can have and probably knows that by doing so his life will change to an emotional mess. 

    He feels lost and wonders how to cope with it and hence we come to my favourite of the four : “Tu vas me détruire” which comes right after and is a logical continuation of this one.

   I feel like the lyrics already speak a lot for themselves but I will copy/paste some of the lyrics to draw some attention on it. After the infamous « I hate you, now fuck me », Viktor’s love, because I do believe he loves him at this point, seems unrequited. I think Viktor felt very hurt, not only by the « I hate you » but also by the way Yuuri used him in chap 9 (as much as I love Yuuri, it’s impossible for Viktor to see Yuuri’s actions as something else than Yuuri using him without giving a damn about his feelings). He loves him but probably hates to feel like this because it hurts him and we have a glimpse of that in his dialogue with Chris « “You’re a masochist in the worst way. And not the fun sexy kind either.” “I know.” ». Now that I brought this up let’s have a look at the lyrics :

Causing my irrationality

My disarray and my bad luck

[…]

I'll slowly drown myself into it

Without feeling any remorse

    That’s basically what I get from is conversation with Chris: He knows it’s wrong, he knows he’s hurt and acts not the way he should but he can’t bring himself to do anything else because of the passion, the way Yuuri makes him feel. As he puts it himself: “I understand how this works. But I can’t change what I want. If this is all I’m ever going to get, even if I can’t have anything else, then I’ll take it. That’s better than nothing after all.” He has accepted the love he feels for Yuuri and doesn’t feel remorse because he lives on whatever Yuuri accepts to give him.

    « "You’re practically begging for scraps as it is and you’re still getting almost nothing in return.” “I know.” Viktor snapped back and his voice was harsher than Yuuri had ever heard it before. He sounded almost angry but there was a crack in his voice that betrayed a very different emotion. » Here Viktor is obviously feeling terrible about whatever his relationship with Yuuri is which fits the « You will destroy me » lyrics, he knows that his situation isn’t sustainable, that he has no long-term perspective and that Yuuri could hurt him even more in the future but as said precedingly: he doesn’t care enough to stop.

Little illusions dealer

I live but in the expectation

Of seeing your slip getting blown up

And of you to dance and sing

   Honestly there is a lot of involuntary (well sometimes voluntary. Eros, I’m looking at you.) teasing from Yuuri in UMFB and these lyrics kind of speak for themselves. Yuuri makes him hope with his dancing alone in the rink, with his quad flip, with his teasing ( “Enjoying  the view?” uh) and glances. Seriously this kid is so oblivious he doesn’t know how his behaviour can be interpreted by Viktor. And since Yuuri contradicts his teasing with his words and his actions all the time (like hum idk leaving as soon as they’re done for example), he crushes the illusions and expectations he gave to Viktor.

   And then about the dance it’s pretty obvious Viktor loves with all of his heart watching Yuuri dance, no plot twist here.

I set myself on fire and torture myself

For the eyes of a foreigner

Concealing much more mystery

Than the light of the moon

   His love is unrequited and he suffers because he doesn’t even KNOW what fuels Yuuri’s hatred. Yuuri is a mystery, a beautiful one he can’t understand but he still wants so badly to know what he has done wrong and tortures himself because he’s not able to figure this out.

   And then comes the 21st song: « Ma maison, c’est ta maison » ( My home is your home ), Quasimodo tells Esmeralda she can stay at his place as long as she wants, it is obviously reminiscent of the 11th chapter with the week in Moscow:

You’ll come whenever you want

No matter the season

My house if you want

It will be your home

   Which is a blessing after all the angst of “Tu vas me détruire”.

 BONUS: I’ve also been reminded of the song “Beau comme le soleil” ( Beautiful like the sun ), and I’m glad I can finish this meta with a wink at Of Bright Stars and Burning Hearts .    Esmeralda compares Phoebus to a star, expressing her adoration and love for him. And Kaz confirmed the companion fic makes reference to a specific comparison Yuuri makes several times in UMFB:

"Yuuri was like a planet orbiting a brightly burning star, caught in Viktor’s gravity."

I don’t know to which extent Kaz thought about the similarities with the rest of the musical but Belle was definitely a well chose song
