Extermination 8.5
Skitter is now one for three on interacting with New Wave kids without making them hate her.
Also fun fact I actually hit the image limit while making this post so I had to nix a few of the smaller observations made, there's just that much shit going on
Tumblr media
Neat to meet more of New Wave, but boy I wish it was under different circumstances
Also Taylor you were so close to making that descriptor of their anguish work, you shouldn't have acknowledged it
Tumblr media
How fucking harrowing must it be to let your daughter go anywhere near the fucking thing that killed your son.
Also I like how even as Skitter realizes that this is not the time or place, she's still indignant at being called "the girl."
What an awful fucking day for all of them. What can even be done, what can even be said?
Tumblr media
Just a wet fucking cat of a girl, being carried through the air.
Tumblr media
Oh hey Coil, bet your asshole is clenching really fucking hard rn
I wish there was a way for Coil to drown down there without killing Dinah too, but alas
Also absolutely insane that this has all been in the span of, what, an hour? Maybe a little more? What the fuck
Tumblr media
And here's Parian proving that she's actually a huge badass
"Why manipulate cloth" honestly my first assumption is that it's bc her power is cloth control
Really fucking funny that people apparently keep thinking that superpowers are magic, though
Tumblr media
We hardly knew ye.
I did learn that this is a retcon; Browbeat survived in the initial version of the story, although he quit the Wards in the wake of this attack and never comes up again. The retcon was in... 2019? Reasoning is speculative but I guess people kept making stupid jokes about Browbeat and he got tired of it?
Tumblr media
Hey you know what though, really good showing overall, better than a bunch of other capes today
Tumblr media
Okay so did this attack go through Leviathan? What the fuck is going on with this Flechette girl, that is utterly fucking cracked. Armsmaster's fucking nanothorns couldn't hack that, what is she doing where her shots do this kinda damage.
Tumblr media
Leviathan likes playing with its fucking food, which is weird as hell
Tumblr media
This dramatic fucker
Tumblr media
God that's so cool, just opening up a fucking chasm in the middle of the battlefield.
...I wonder if it was trying to get into the bunker like Coil was afraid of. I know enough about Noelle to know that could've gone really fucking poorly.
Tumblr media
Laserdream is cool, does she get much love in the fandom or is she too peripheral a character for that?
Tumblr media
This is kinda funny ngl
Tumblr media
That's a lot of fucking dead people, Jesus H
Tumblr media
Taylor you are genuinely being too cool about this, your arm is still broken
Tumblr media
He can do anything he wants down there, it's terrifying
Tumblr media
Very funny that Armsmaster's brand-spanking-new halberd is being put to better use in this fight by people who aren't him and for purposes he didn't intend
Tumblr media
Haha, wuh oh!
Tumblr media
First indicator that Coil's got some pretty remarkable commercial ties considering he managed to sneak his own fucking Endbringer shelter in for private use and nobody noticed.
Also, god that's gotta be fucking terrifying
...I think like 99% of things that have come up in this arc are fucking terrifying if we're being real for a second but I'm gonna keep saying it
Tumblr media
Seeing someone who treats you like dirt and have a happy life outside of treating you like dirt is a certain kind of agony. Also fuck Gladly on principle tbh.
Tumblr media
Ah fuck
Tumblr media
She could have so easily given into spite and let them all suffer and die. She was under no obligation beyond her own drive to be good, to be better, to be better than Gladly. And that's why she's among the best of these fucking people.
Tumblr media
And so the bug girl, both creepy AND wet, goes in there and saves everyone left standing by shoving the Halberd up Levi's nonexistent asshole and baiting him back out the shelter
She's a bigger hero than so many of the others
Tumblr media
This might be one of the most intensely and personally terrifying moments of all. Paralysis and drowning hand in hand. A slow and insidious kind of horror.
Tumblr media
Rachel Lindt MVP
Tumblr media
Well hey, cool of Rachel to be concerned though
Tumblr media
They should be giving Bitch the key to the fucking city for this, honestly
This poor girl sacrificed the closest thing she has to family to buy even a fraction of extra time for this asscrack of a city
Tumblr media
And then there's this fucking asshole
Tumblr media
Imagine if God thought you, personally and specifically, fucking sucked. What a weird feeling that must be.
Skipping past the downturn in the fighting and the teleportation bc we have to get to the conclusion of the chapter
Tumblr media
Taylor did more to save this whole city than any of these people can even imagine, and they manhandle her into a cot and cuff her broken-ass arm because y'can't be too careful with villains, can you
This is going to go so poorly
Current Thoughts
Taylor did more, in the moment-to-moment breakdown of tracking, fighting, and responding to Leviathan, than like 90% of the other capes in this whole fucking deal, and nobody will ever know the full extent of it. She might have honestly saved more lives than Armsmaster, because he was too busy fucking grandstanding in the moments leading up to his, ahaha, disarmament.
Skitter is a hero, idgaf what anyone says. She earned better than what she's about to be fucking put through, that's for sure.

If Terrys beloved is a single mum would he still pursue her and would he be a good step parent and father.
Tumblr media
---
The agenda is quite simple, really:
Claim what he wants; namely, beloved.
They so happen to come in tow with a child from a previous relationship?
Alright then...change of plan. Adapt and overcome.
Ensure that kid loves, admires and adores him far more than they ever would their actual biological dad (and even the biological dad's extended family) through a combination of everything including expensive gift giving, subtle manipulations, enabling, love bombing, sweet talking and utilizing the means of whatever conditioning tool proves most fruitful given the situation. Beloved's his now. They belong to him. By extension, their kid will belong to him too and so will everything pertaining to beloved because he doesn't suffer competition behind that saintly facade he puts on. What's best, they'll never even realize what's happening because he won't let them realize.
Impress, draw further in and endear beloved further through just how much their child warmed up to him, making distancing oneself, as if though that was ever an option on the table in the first place, only the more difficult with each passing day, because you wouldn't break Billy's heart by putting a wedge between us now, would you? And if an attempt is ever made, of course the kid in question will naturally rebel on their own, as kids often do, making Terry's job easy for him, because beloved would not only be taking away a dad figure once, she will be doing so for a second time and Terry knows and anticipates this as a plan B. Terry will only effortlessly end up seeming like even more of a hero if beloved ever tried wiggling out.
So, really, Terry makes himself absolutely necessary. Irreplaceable. Number one.
Next on the agenda; ensure the actual biological dad is entirely erased from the game due to the fact that they'll never measure up to Terry Silver; the stepfather who does Karate, who's been in the military, who gives the coolest advice at just the right time, who owns a dojo, who employs a waiting staff, runs a company, wears amazing suits, so happens to live in a mansion and collects dozens of sports cars. He's, almost stereotypically speaking, literally almost every child's dream come true parent; another thing he is entirely aware of and plays into like there's no tomorrow. Biological father? Who on earth is that punk schmuck anyway?
What's worse, Terry won't even have to eliminate the man personally. Won't have to lift a finger or even open his mouth to besmirch and sabotage the guy; if anything, he'll tactically defend him to seem like the 'good cop' in comparison, further adding to the mystique that he's as humble as the salt of the earth and just as kind. Sooner or later, beloved and beloved's kid will distance themselves from the man on their own because Terry will prove to be a father figure like no other; someone nobody can measure up to and what's the point of anyone ever even trying (a grace Terry rejects with a fake sense of being humble). I mean, he defends beloved's ex and speaks of about equity! Consideration! Fair play! Can you believe!?
By the end of it, beloved and the child will be the ones feeling grateful due to Terry Silver coming into their lives in the first place and internally, he'll laugh and laugh and laugh until the end of time because he's won just like he always knew he would.

Thinking about how one of the reasons I was so disappointed by TotK was because Iā€™ve been spoiled by more narrative-driven indie games lately. Even if TotK Ganondorf was only played like a villain resembling the scariest versions of The Princess when he was threatening to break his seal, we still wouldā€™ve gotten a character with way more depth and opportunities for emotional attachment/sympathy.
Tumblr media
Likeā€¦I donā€™t want Ganon to be a cute, cuddly, super-palatable and marketable same-aged bestie to the teenaged protagonists. I want to have that same pathos and emotional connection that I felt with his Wind Waker incarnation. That guy may have still been a child-punching jerk who was desperately trying to justify himself, but he was also lonely, maladaptive, and struggling with having lost everything partly by his own hands. Out of all the incarnations of this guy, he felt the most human, even if it was the more self-serving, self-pitying, self-destructive parts of humanity. If we must fight him, I want to feel that same uneasy emptiness where Iā€™m left wondering if things couldā€™ve been different and he didnā€™t have to die instead of a simpler, ā€œYay!!! U Beat Da Gaem!!!1!!ā€ sendoff.
Tumblr media
And if thereā€™s anything Slay The Princess taught me, itā€™s that you donā€™t necessarily need a super complex motivation to tell a compelling story, or to start spinning more complex conflicts and narratives outward from that origin point. Sometimes ā€œLet me outta this basement!ā€ is enough. Especially when the character in question is so driven that they donā€™t care what they have to do or who they have to steamroll to finally reach freedom. Even if all the prisoner does is vindictively torture the player instead of auditioning for their sympathy in their attempts to escape, you canā€™t help but develop a strange sort of admiration for their tenacity and resourcefulness. Not to mention that, even in a purely antagonistic relationship, such a motive is an easy ā€œinā€ for emotional connection to a character. Nobody likes being trapped against their will. Everyone forced into imprisonment would want to be free. Also, solitary confinement in particular sucks, and eons of that would be enough to make anyone ornery and desperate.
They didnā€™t even need to do much to reimagine Ganondorf for a new audience. Just give him a more realistic response to the archetypal Zelda Series situation that he was forced into like BotWā€™s Link and Zelda. The Holy Maiden is made to suffer, the Hero is made to grow up too fast and put through grueling challenges, and the Monster is made to be imprisoned and be cut down after he escapes because his mere existence threatens the Holy Maiden. (And even if he suffers just as much as the Maiden, itā€™s all his own fault because heā€™s Evil, so donā€™t you dare feel sorry for him!)
Calamity Ganon wanted out of that basement, just like Zelda wanted out of her role and the pressures that came with it. Youā€™re really telling me Nintendo couldnā€™t have done something more compelling with that? Itā€™s absolutely possible for a character whose history has expanded him to a near-eldritch multiplicity and timespan to still feel human and relatable. You just have to be willing to look at that character with genuine affection as a writer, even at his absolute worst.

for sweet baby ray:
āš ļø - If this oc came with a warning sign, what would it be?
šŸŒŠĀ - Does this oc have a secret or repressed desire?
for the weasel woman (affectionate):
šŸ’”Ā - Does forgiveness come easily or with difficulty to this oc? Can they forgive others? What about themselves?
šŸ‘ļøā€šŸ—Øļø - Eye contact: good or bad for this oc?
Ask game!
Tumblr media
(I found some of my old favorite shots of him! This was him at 24 in Inquisition, in Veilguard he'll be roughly 36[?], in my BG3-verse he was 55. Poor guy just can't catch a break.) (something something Protagonist Georg, who goes on three apocalyptic adventures in one lifetime, is an outlier adn should not have been counted.)
āš ļø - If this oc came with a warning sign, what would it be?
Well, my first thought is "Caution: dangerous levels of earnestness and genuine good will within. May cause unhealthy degrees of emotional attachment and codependency; if symptoms last longer than ten years, please consult your local spirit healer or Chantry wedding officiant" but let's be real.....
it's gotta be "Contains nuts".
šŸŒŠ - Does this oc have a secret or repressed desire?
Okay, stay with me on this one, this might get long, but I think... that by the time Veilguard rolls around, he'll long so badly for the anonymity he enjoyed before his time as the Inquisitor.
It's kind of sad to think about, that before he would have had his Great Adventure, he desperately longed to be something worthy. As a kid, he was fascinated by hero-stories, and wanted to be a protector, a chosen one, someone glorious and worthy of respect (if not adoration), who is (most importantly) no longer has anything to prove to anyone.
And once he got that, I think he quickly found himself too small to fill his own boots.
The Inquisitor is -and always was- a larger than life figure. The Herald of Andraste, the thrice-blessed hero of the realms, the one whose blade felled countless monsters and clashed with those of would-be gods, and while he is technically something like that, he's really still just... Ray.
I've been thinking about this a lot lately, how he was very young when it all happened, and how generally, heroes seldom live to see past the ending of their tales. But he did. And then ten years passed.
The people still recognize the Inquisitor, of course. He grew a beard and walked a country over (worked for Thom), and he's stopped introducing himself as "Trevelyan" for the most part, but he can't very well slough off his skin, and his very presence still carries more weight than maybe his shoulders can carry at this point. Not to mention that Solas is the ticking time bomb that has been in the back of his mind for the past ten years, an itch that he can.... maybe sometimes ignore for a while, if he tries hard enough, but it never really goes anywhere.
And Maker, he wants it so badly to be someone else's problem. He's spilled so much blood, both his own and not, he's sacrificed so much time and energy and effort, so much of his life, and he wants so badly to be able to just... hand this burden off completely, fuck off to buy a vineyard in Bumfuck, Antiva, and not bother with the world ending, and Magisterium corruption, and politics, and pain, and all of that goddamn suffering.
But he can't. Because it's his fault, it's him who didn't see the signs (it doesn't matter that nobody else did either), it's him who let Solas go when he could have just slid a blade between his ribs, and avoided everything that went down afterwards.
So I think that while he puts on a charming face, plays the Inquisitor when he has to, and is determined to see it all through, his most secret desire is probably to just.... plug his ears, and pretend that he's still no more than the unremarkable third child of a minor noble from Ostwick.
Serves him right for wanting to be taken seriously I suppose, lol. (This also leaves room for the Inquisitor to just fuck off in Veilguard I suppose, but I kinda had this thought since Trespasser, lol.)
Tumblr media
(I love that you called her that anon, please, everyone point and laugh at the slippery-slimy weasel-woman)
šŸ’”Ā - Does forgiveness come easily or with difficulty to this oc? Can they forgive others? What about themselves?
This is actually a pretty difficult question, because... I think she's has a hard time forgiving when it comes to being wronged, but her threshold for what she would consider being wronged is maybe a tad higher than average.
And I think that's in part because of her own propensity for acting in self-interest. As in, she already lies, steals, and cheats, so if she's lied to, stolen from, or cheated... well, she can respect the hustle. Game recognize game. When deceived (without her having seen it coming), she can see the artistry in it, when stepped over she can see the necessity of it, and that can probably be seen as her having an easy time forgiving, but more often than not, she just... doesn't take that sort of thing personally. Like she's not always mad to have been lied to, but she is mad when she's lied to badly, if that makes sense.
(I'm thinking of primarily the Emperor here, but I think my best summary of her feelings is a line I had written for her months ago following the Gur camp conversation, that went something like... "I of all have no grounds to blame you, nor would I think you culpable for surviving.")
All else is context-dependent, I think.
As for herself, well... she forgives herself for having done what she had to to survive, but what I don't think she forgives herself for is staying in that rut as long as she did, and I don't think she forgives her father for trying to make it work instead of just letting her go either.
Back then, she was afraid to rock the boat too much, to uproot her life and sacrifice the long-valued stability the seeking of which was ingrained into her by her family (and never encouraged to explore after her mother's passing), but now... she can see how comparatively easy it would have been to live so much better. How much more fun it is to make a living as an adventurer, to thrive and revel in her magic, how she could actually find someone who seems to want her genuine self.... she could live two thousand years, and I don't think she'll ever stop kicking herself for the decades she had wasted on uneasy complacency.
Then again, had she left Herric decades ago (or never even married him), there's no guarantee that she would have ended up where she is now, and that is rather sad.
šŸ‘ļøā€šŸ—Øļø - Eye contact: good or bad for this oc?
Man, everything with this woman is "it depends", lol.
I think generally, she has no troubles holding and seeking eye contact- every good bullshit-artist knows what it's a core tenet of all manipulation to be able to meet someone's gaze, and radiate sincerity. That's one thing she is extraordinarily good at: keeping eyes on her, and reading people through it.
But that's kind of a double-edged sword, and when she's not taking the piss and there's actual personal stakes and emotional vulnerability involved, she's... well, still working on not feeling uncomfortable at the prospect of being perceived.
She's still working on a lot of this "actually feeling our genuine feelings and letting people know us" business. Give her some time, lol.
(I do kind of love the idea of the group falling in many ways into communicating with their eyes only. Like I think somewhere in the depths of my notes, I've written at least 3 instances when she and Astarion had completely silent conversations with their eyes only, and that kind of bullshit-synergy always makes me feel squirmy in a good way.)
Sorry about rambling for so long lol, I loved these! <3

So, have you seen Mao Mao Heroes of pure heart??
So, there is this character called Adorabat, super chaotic. Imagine Mc/Yuu, by a potion mishaps, she gets turn into a child again and has the same attitude as Adorabat. Screaming n all.
RIP the whole NRC cuz nobody can with this absolute ball of destruction and adorableness. Except Mal-Mal, Lilia and probably Jamil.
Hello! I never watched Mao Mao, but after watching some videos to get the feel for Adorabat, I gotta say I really should watch it. Tired, Soft and Chaos Child, perfect combination
Have children, they said (NRC)
ā€” į•™ā [ā ļ½„ā Ūļ½„ā ]ā į•—
No one but Floyd is happy. This day will go down in NRC's history as "The Day Only Floyd Had a Blast"
Ace is the culprit, of course. Crewel chewed him after class, and Riddle chewed him twice as much at the dorm.
"How was I supposed to know that mixing that stuff together would do something?" It's POTIONS, Trappola, you dumbass
Child Prefect is adorable. Really, really cute.
What's not cute is her screeching that one can hear from the other side of the island. Some boys swear up and down that RSA will eventually knock on their doors to ask whatever they're killing so cruelly
The beastmen have it particularly bad, since about 95% of them has very sensitive ears
Leona is fucking DEAD. Cheka's screeching was already enough for his poor ears, but Reader's are on another level. Ruggie is not sure if he finds it funny or if he sympathizes
Riddle is another one who's dying, but because of a slight different cause. How can he educate a child when all his approaches are... Harsh? He doesn't want to be hated by Reader at any age, and he certainly doesn't want to treat her like his mom treated him.
Trey and Cater wince every new scream, but they're pretty good at taking care of her. Trey has experience with children, and Cater is just a fun person to be around. They tend to bicker because Cater wants to give her candies, but Trey worries about her teeth, to which Cater complains that there's just as much sugar in a tart than in a piece of candy, and they go from there
Jack does not think they should be giving any sugar to such a hyper child, but he'd rather she be holding candies than anything that could be used as a weapon. She has hit so many ankles already
Vil is keeping his distance after Reader threatened to pull on his hair. She's cute to look at from a distance, he says, and then leaves. Because of that, Epel is very willing to be near her, if only to get away from Vil, though he's appreciate if she stopped throwing his apple carvings on people's head.
Rook is actually having an ok time, since a hyper child means a child he needs to watch and run after. Very good prey, she loves playing hide-n-seek with him
Azul has practically locked himself in the office. He thinks she's cute, but his poor three hearts can't take two Floyds being loud and violence happy. He's very jealous of Jade, who appears to be having a grand time. It's probably the almost two decades with Floyd, this eel feels nothing.
Floyd is, as mentioned before, having the time of his life with a even more hyper tiny him to terrorize the world with him.
Jamil absolutely loves child Reader. Not because she's cute (tho he will agree that she is), but because she's giving Kalim some of his own medicine: does whatever she wants, whenever and however she wants, independent of whatever is happening around her, and expects him to follow her thought process. She manages to out-do Kalim in being a chatterbox and Kalim looks like Jamil on a good day: stressed, tired and done.
(Child Prefect is also pretty well mannered and behaved near Jamil, probably some remnant of her older self who knows this boy needs a break. Maybe that's why she wants Kalim to be the babysitter instead)
Sebek is SUFFERING. WHY IS THIS SMALL HUMAN SO LOUD?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE IS BEING LOUD, HAVE YOU NOT HEARD THE TINY HUMAN?! TINY HUMAN, CEASE YOUR YELLING AT ONCE!
Silver appreciates that she doesn't allow him to sleep... but also please let him sleep. Sometimes he does want to sleep. He gets surprisingly close to Leona in their quest to find a place she won't find them to nap
Lilia is also having the time of his life. It's Lilia, there's not much to say. He will give her a tiny sword and teach her how to use it. Say goodbye to your knees, NRC.
Malleus isn't sure about any of this, but then Reader sits on his lap and begs to nibble on his horns, and he is sold. Another one who gets a well mannered, behaved child. Other than the horn nibbling.
Ace and Grim are not allowed to come near her without Deuce and Jack with them. Deuce was given the explicit permission to punch Ace's face if he comes up with any stupid plan, so was Jack.
Idia is locked in his room. He can't take a hyper child. He can't take a hyper child that keeps knocking on his door and going "do you wanna build a snow maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan?". It's the middle of spring. There's no snow. Please stop.
Ortho is more than happy to stay with Reader. Noise? He can adjust his hearing. Too much energy? Hah! Same, quite literally. Wants to hit stuff? Well, Ignihyde has a training room full with breakable drones!
Crewel hates and loves her. He hates the loudness and the rowdiness, but he loves when she actually calms down and accompanies him. He likes cute pups, sue him
Trein is also one who gets a well mannered child, mostly because he's scary. But Lucius will let her pet him if she behaves, so that's also behind her good behavior
Vargas is basically Floyd 2.0. Someone get this child away from him. No, don't let Sam be alone with her instead! He isn't the problem, the problem is his friends from the other side who love to screech with her
Crowley is in Hell. She screams at him, hits his knees and bites his ankles if he gets too close. No one can tell why, but it might be yet another remnant of her older self. Everyone accepts that theory, except Crowley, who doesn't understand how she doesn't like his generous self.
After a week, the Ramshackle Housewarden is back to her actual age, and 90% of the NRC is crying of relief

UTMV Human Superhero AU
Honestly what I'm posting now is kinda just somewhat old stuff, like not recent and new things but more like just tryna fill my blog with posts while ALSO keeping with the theme? ??? Anyway have another AU lmao- I actually don't read as much UTMV fanfiction so zero idea what's more common than others. SO! This'll just be current notes I have for different Sanses, but that also means I just have the more common Sanses instead of Sanses like Error, Reaper, Fresh, Lust, and so on.
CW: Mentions of famines, drought, murder, injury, blood, bullying, disowned, cannibalism, pressure, high expectations, etc.
-----------------
Nightmare's Gang, dubbed the Bad Guys (Which Killer jokingly refers to them as Bad Gays) by the media is a high ranking supervillain organization, consisting of members,
Dust- VN: Executioner Has voices in his head. (When he's lost it, his eyes turn red.) They predict the future and help him get by, but with the drawback of them sounding like those he has killed before. It haunts him and leaves him unable to eat, sleep, or anything after. The sole survivor of a mass genocide, suffering through Survivor's Guilt. He had no one to get help from, and eventually found himself with Nightmare. He's bitter and craves revenge against the shitty heroes who failed to help him then and now.
Horror- VN: Butcher Once trapped in a persistent famine and drought, he was unable to control himself anymore. He ate anything that moved, including people, much to the disgust of the public once it came to light. People were disgusted by him, but with his newfound desire for cannibalism came a power. He'd find himself in a state of constant hunger, yet the more he ate, the more invincible he became. Sometimes he'd be able to even use another's enhancement.
Nightmare- VN: Nyx Forgotten in his brother's shadow, he grew bitter and angry. 'If they wanted a monster, then that's what I'll become', he thought. His power let him see people's worst fears, bringing them to light with 'hallucinations'. In a way, he could change reality to his own making. In the 'hallucinations', he produces a black fog that hides the ground and everything the eye can see. When inhaled, it poisons the victim severely. Few survive, but those who do are easy to spot due to their sickly figure. The black slowly overtakes them. They throw it up. 'Corruption' Nyx calls it. Then they lose all will. A puppet in the making.
Killer-VN: Jester He was kicked out of his own home due to his sick nature, and nobody wanted the kid with an odd obsession with blood. Killer always had been fascinated by death and soon became a murderer who hid in the shadows, yet known to play with his 'food'. Soon he had caught the attention of Nightmare who took him in. Killer's power had to do with drinking blood. It let him use that person's enhancements, and at times he could wield multiple at once. He grew fangs due to it as well, and enjoyed joking about how he was a vampire. It always sent him on a sort of high when he got some in his system. It was also due to this that he had an unhealthy addiction to blood, though if he were to stop he'd weaken. When he can't find a source, sometimes he'll just take his own blood to calm the desire. Sometimes though, if he has a big enough amount of blood from someone, he can copy their features. (edited)
-------
The heroes lmao. no special name for them [ig they're just the stars but thats about it. Also they'll probably end up falling apart due to different ideals n such]
Swap- HN: Knight can form a shield and sword on will or whatever? [thoughts pending]
Dream- HN: Hemera He can provide 'suggestions' to people in a soft siren-like voice. When he does it, it forces a calm over them, almost like drugging them, and they do as he says. (For some reason people dont call him out for having a 'villain' like power unlike Nightmare's)
Ink- HN: Creator Can create things with his brush, easy to understand
Cross- HN: X Put under high expectations, he was meant to become a hero at his birth. It wasn't what he would've chosen as a job, but he was helping people. That was a good thing right? He was being helpful. That was his purpose, after all. Wasn't it? He has heightened senses. He can hear better, see better, even move faster and jump higher. Sometimes he adopts other people's abilities, almost like a mimic, being able to make sounds or voices. He once had a dog (dead now), so he has a habit of copying a dog's noises, like growling when under threat.
MANY notes subject to change, though I'm already using them for a series on another thing so it'd be awful to change it now, BUT some sanses haven't been shown yet, or even done anything yet so changes could happen [though the bad gays have already been shown haha along with their powers and '..backstories'

How would the batboys react to a female SO with Paranoid Personality Disorder?
Hi there!
Thanks so much for the ask. I hope this is okay :)
-Sky
Bruce
As a person living with paranoid personality disorder, you might be terrified that people are out to harm you. Your place of residence, Gotham city, does nothing but exacerbate your paranoid thought patterns, since criminals run rampant through the streets. Itā€™s hard to distinguish between paranoid thoughts and substantiated concerns. Is that sketchy person with the full face covering one of Black Maskā€™s False Face Society members sent to abduct you, or are they just a conscientious citizen taking extra precautions to avoid contracting or transmitting the COVID virus? Being in a state of constant fear prevents you from living your life to the fullest. Luckily, your S/O happens to be Batman in his free time.
Bruce eases your mind just with his presence. Heā€™s probably the smartest, strongest, and most resourceful person you know and being with him makes you feel safe. Bruce is the kind of person who youā€™d blindly listen to during an emergency ā€“ if he told you to jump out of a burning plane, youā€™d do it without a second thought because heā€™s never let you down in the past and youā€™re confident that he never will in the future. If youā€™re feeling fearful in public, Bruce will grab your hand or put an arm around you securely and soothingly whisper in your ear that heā€™s right here and thereā€™s nothing to worry about. Having paranoid thoughts means that itā€™s difficult to reason with you, so you probably arenā€™t convinced that there is no threat, but you do experience some relief from his soft touch and gentle words. Heā€™ll ask if you want to leave and heā€™ll take you to your safe space. If youā€™re feeling fearful in private, Bruce will hold you close and rub your back to reduce your anxiety. If youā€™re by yourself and start to have those racing, panicked paranoid thoughts, you can always call Bruce. Heā€™ll drop whatever he is doing and come take care of you.
Bruce will teach you self defense to help you feel more comfortable around people. He wonā€™t arm you with any dangerous weapons because he doesnā€™t want an innocent person to get hurt if you get spooked. Bruce will ask if you want to move into the manor since it has strong security and comes with several vigilantes. If you would rather stay at your own place, Bruce will install a variety of safety systems to make you feel protected. Heā€™ll even spend most nights at your place so you can sleep peacefully. Overall, Bruce is like your lifeline. Heā€™ll know just what to do to help you through your difficult thoughts.
Dick
Dick is a social butterfly whoā€™s had his fair share of romantic partners in the past so itā€™s natural for you to feel jealous when he spends time with other people. Dick will adamantly declare that heā€™s with you and only you. At first you might try to ignore the prickly feeling of jealousy because you donā€™t want to come off as a possessive S/O, but the clues accumulate and suggest that heā€™s cheating on you. For example, heā€™ll rarely spend the night with you. Youā€™ll catch him sneaking into bed at ungodly hours of the morning. When confronted, heā€™ll make up an excuse that he just went to get a drink of water or use the bathroom. Youā€™ll spot bruises scattered over his chest knowing you definitely did not leave those there. Heā€™ll play it off as a gym injury.
When you raise your suspicions, Dick is hesitant to explain. You take this as confirmation of infidelity and youā€™re ready to walk out. At that point, he has no choice but to come clean about his secret identity as Nightwing. That sounds farfetched and you likely think heā€™s a pathological liar. Finally, Dick proves it to you and explains that he didnā€™t want you to be dragged into his dangerous nightlife. While you accept that as the truth, youā€™ll always wonder if heā€™s hiding more secrets. Furthermore, youā€™re probably pissed that he was gaslighting you. Dick will do everything he can to make it up to you. Heā€™ll apologize profusely and in extravagant ways, be more transparent, and shower you with excessive love and affection. It might take a long time, but eventually Dick will worm his way back into your good graces.
It doesnā€™t take long for the green-eyed monster to rear itsā€™ ugly head again. Now that youā€™re in the know, youā€™re hyperaware of the attractive vigilantes that Dick works with and itā€™s emotionally draining to be jealous all the time. You donā€™t want to be the type of person who tries to control their partnerā€™s life, but when the suffering becomes too much to bear, you might ask him to stop seeing certain people. Dick will calmly assure you that there isnā€™t anything going on with any of his vigilante friends. If that doesnā€™t appease you, heā€™ll suggest that you hang out with the team and get to know them. He hopes that youā€™ll see that there arenā€™t any romantic feelings between them. Whatever you do, please donā€™t force him to choose between you and his hero life. It will tear him apart.
Jason
Trust is very important to Jason. He doesnā€™t trust many people as it is and needs a S/O who he can trust wholeheartedly and who will trust him in return. He believes that this relationship will fail if you donā€™t have confidence in each other. Heā€™ll take it personally if you distrust him. Jason will get defensive and frustrated if you accuse him of being unfaithful, especially if you donā€™t have a shred of evidence to support your claims. Heā€™ll be offended and deeply hurt that you think so negatively of him but once heā€™s had some time to cool off, heā€™ll be able to process everything more objectively. Heā€™ll accept that you canā€™t control the way you feel. Youā€™d explained it to him once that you do trust him, but thereā€™s a separate voice in your head that tells you otherwise. Jason wonā€™t give up on you though. Heā€™ll come up with a proposition - heā€™ll agree to install a tracking app on his phone so you can monitor his whereabouts if youā€™ll promise to work on learning to trust him, whether it be via professional psychotherapy or reading self-help books.
On the other hand, if Jason is one of the only people you trust, heā€™ll be elated to know that you two have built such a strong connection. Itā€™ll be easy to confide in him because heā€™ll gladly listen to your worried thoughts with no judgement. At first, heā€™ll reassure you that nothing bad is going to happen to you ā€“ heā€™s Red Hood and nobody is going to pull anything on you if they value their life. Eventually heā€™ll realize that trying to reason with you isnā€™t helpful so heā€™ll stick to active listening when youā€™re experiencing paranoid thoughts.
However, if Jason is fresh out of the pit and emotionally unstable, you two will probably bond over your mutual distrust and cynicism about the world. Although you and Jason will get along exceptionally well, itā€™s possible that your irrational thoughts may feed each otherā€™s paranoia and exacerbate the feelings of mistrust and suspicion. If you find yourself unable to let things go, feel free to vent away when youā€™re with Jason. He is the king of holding grudges, so heā€™ll probably support you and even join in on trash talking that person with you when youā€™re angry. Learning to forgive and forget is something you and Jason can work on together. In a way, it brings you two closer together since you understand each other on a level that others canā€™t begin to comprehend.
Tim
Tim very compassionate and patient; however, heā€™s afraid of triggering you so heā€™s often walking on eggshells around you. He just wants to be the perfect supportive S/O for you and doesnā€™t want to mess up the relationship. His worst offense (in your eyes) is using ambiguous language that lends to multiple interpretations. For example, he might innocently compliment your clothes/hair/makeup and you might assume that he only likes you for your appearance or that heā€™s implying that youā€™re vain for wanting to look nice. The moment you shoot him daggers, heā€™s realized his mistake and starts to furiously backpedal. He tries to explain himself, but he usually ends up digging himself a deeper hole. Eventually, he gets better at expressing his thoughts carefully so that they canā€™t be misconstrued.
Tim diligently tries to learn your other triggers and how to help. When youā€™re stuck in a cycle of paranoid thoughts, Tim will get you to focus on whatā€™s real instead of trying to make you see sense. Heā€™ll help you relax by walking you through breathing exercises, playing soothing music, or whatever strategies you find helpful.
Tim isnā€™t proud of this, but heā€™s resorted to deceiving you when necessary. For instance, if youā€™re experiencing paranoid thought patterns and want to be alone, Tim will hesitantly leave, but heā€™ll probably secretly monitor you only because heā€™s worried about your safety. If youā€™re afraid that others are reading your mind, he might pretend that he invented an anti-mindreading helmet to ease your suspicions. He knows you would feel betrayed if you ever found out about his dishonesty, but he reasons that your safety and comfort are more important in the moment.
Damian
Arguments with Damian are brutal. No matter how insignificant the disagreement is, Damian refuses to back down when he believes heā€™s right. Paired with your own stubbornness and contentiousness, these quarrels generally result in an impasse. Eventually your anger subsides and the depression sinks in. You might assume that Damian doesnā€™t love you anymore and that fight was the end of your relationship. Maybe you start packing your belongings to move out right away. Damian comes up behind you and asks what youā€™re doing. When you tell him that youā€™re leaving because he doesnā€™t want you anymore, heā€™s instantly remorseful. He takes your bags out of your hands and proceeds to pull you in close as he tells you how much he loves you. He assures you that two people can disagree and still love each other.
Damian doesnā€™t want to argue with you and he certainly doesnā€™t want to see you upset so heā€™ll always excuse himself before the argument becomes too heated. He hopes that some time apart will allow you both to calm down and come to a compromise, but itā€™s never that simple. Most of the time, youā€™ll need a third-party mediator, like a therapist, to resolve your dispute. The act of seeking out a therapist will be a huge accomplishment for your relationship. Damian likes his privacy and doesnā€™t want someone else in his business and you might be afraid to share intimate information with a stranger in fear that it will be used against you. Nevertheless, you both want to make this relationship work, so youā€™ll continue to seek help.
Damian has a habit of being blunt. He doesnā€™t mean to criticize or insult you ā€“ in his mind, he is only stating the facts or his opinion for the purpose of helping you improve. Despite his goodhearted intentions, itā€™s easy for you to take his comments the wrong way and perceive it as a personal attack. If he sees that his remarks have upset you, heā€™ll acknowledge all the positive aspects of your performance. Still, you might cling to the disparaging comments and ignore the praise. Going forward, Damian will try to be more encouraging and constructive and will only express feedback if you invite him to do so.

Fate don't know you like I do
Hello, guys, have this super cheesy and self indulgent piece I wrote for Bakudeku day! I'm so happy to be part of this fandom and all the wonderful content creators out there, so here's my little contribution, enjoy! I wrote it super fast so sorry for any mistake or typo!
Also, the title is a song I love, please check it out, it inspired the whole thing!
Izuku wakes up to the sight of his bedroom ceiling, body aching and mind restless. Heā€™s no longer wearing his hero suit, except for the undershirt and his pants, everything else is gone. Slowly, the yells of the crowd infiltrate his thoughts and he wishes to run away, to go to where he canā€™t hurt anyone he cares about.
He has to leave. He is being selfish. Izuku props himself up on his elbows.
ā€œThatā€™s the face of a rabbit ready to bolt,ā€ the gruff voice startles him, and he turns to see Kacchan sitting on his desk, frowning. It adds up that they wouldn't leave him without someone standing guard.
Kacchan has changed out of his hero suit, and a dark grey long sleeved t-shirt hides the bandages on his shoulder and stomach, but Izuku is keenly aware of the wounds he was sporting as he flew around trying to keep him from leaving. By the end, his childhood friend was bleeding through them. That was Izukuā€™s fault; both Kacchan reopening his injuries and the fact that he has them in the first place.
ā€œKacchan, I'm so-ā€œ
ā€œSave it, nerd,ā€ he abandons the desk chair and shuffles closer.
Izuku takes him in; after weeks of agonizing over the state in which he left Kacchan, seeing him do a perfect arch in the air and stop a villain with a precise AP Shot, filled him with a relief so strong, it paralyzed him, and he was only able to stare in awe.
During the following fight, if Izuku can call it that when it was against his friends, Kacchan was everywhere; coordinating different maneuvers, and he even had a new move. Izuku told his friends they couldnā€™t keep up, and he remembers vaguely that he apologized, because in reality theyā€™re miles ahead of him.
Still, nobody is like Kacchan: certain and absolute, pure will held together by his convictions. He never backs down, and he never gives up, only marches forward. Izuku never stood a chance against him, in more than one way.
Kacchan kneels by the bed, putting an elbow on the bed, close to his hips, and lazily resting his head on his hand.
ā€œKacchan, I canā€™t stay here,ā€ he mumbles, trying to convey all his inner turmoil. He wants to stay, he is so tired and scared, but he will not risk anyone for his sake.
Kacchan frowns in response.
ā€œYou can, and you will, dumbass,ā€ he states, surprising him by clutching his forearm. ā€œIā€™m not chasing your sorry ass around anymore.ā€
ā€œThen let me go,ā€ Izuku turns his arm, grabbing him as well.
ā€œYouā€™re not going anywhere, Izuku.ā€
The name travels through his body, lighting him up on the inside, coursing through him with the violence of the first time he used One For All, equally exhilarating and terrifying.
It all comes back to him; the rain, his words, his bow, Izuku collapsing and Kacchan appearing in time to support him.
Izuku.
ā€œYou apologized,ā€ he whispers, tears coming to his eyes. ā€œYou said all those things in front of the whole class.ā€
ā€œI had to, asshole, you left before I could tell you in private,ā€ he doesnā€™t look embarrassed or regretful. Kacchan doesnā€™t shy away from his decisions once he makes up his mind. ā€œOnly a shitty letter for explanation and that was it.ā€ He shakes his head. ā€œYou didnā€™t even let me go with you, idiot.ā€
ā€œYouā€™re still dealing with the outcome of the last time I let you come with me.ā€ The tears are running freely down his cheeks. ā€œI had to watch how he almost took you away from me.ā€ He scrubs his eyes furiously with his free hand, not letting go of Kacchan. ā€œI canā€™t allow more people to suffer because of me.ā€ Heā€™s on his way to a full on breakdown, struggling to get air in his lungs, and blood roaring in his ears, the noises muffled.
Suddenly, Kacchan is hovering over him, shoving his shoulder firmly.
ā€œHey, Deku, scoot over,ā€ Izuku only glances at him through his crying, baffled. ā€œGive me some room to lay down, like when we were kids.ā€ Heā€™s already in the process of climbing on the bed, and Izuku manages to slide his body closer to the other end, grabbing the bed cover when the weight of his childhood friend laying down almost makes him roll over him. ā€œJesus Christ, you stink,ā€ Kacchan complains.
ā€œI know,ā€ Izuku turns on his side, creating more space between them. Hygiene wasnā€™t that high on his list of priorities, not even eating or sleeping was, and he feels awful. He didnā€™t have the energy to shower before passing out.
ā€œYou smell like dirt and sweat.ā€ Kacchan scrunches up his nose. ā€œWorst of all, you reek of that goddamn martyr complex, and it pisses me off.ā€ he turns too, and traps Izuku in his red gaze. ā€œIf youā€™re choosing to ignore all I said before, at least pay attention to the last part.ā€ Heā€™s not sugarcoating his words, heā€™s as brash as he always is. ā€œWe all want to fight, because weā€™re heroes and we want to protect everyone, including the fucking chosen one, whether you want us to or not. Iā€™m not asking for your damn permission, and neither is any of the rest. So, you can either play nice and make it easy for us, or be a self-sacrificial idiot, making it all the more annoying. Your call.ā€
ā€œI donā€™t know how to stop,ā€ Izuku grimaces, reaching for him with a shaky hand, and awkwardly squeezes his arm. ā€œIā€™m not ignoring all you said, Kacchanā€ he chooses to focus on that, gaze in his All Might covers. ā€œI, I forgave you a long time ago, mostly because I wanted to focus on the good parts, so in a way I let go of it for me.ā€ He forgets about his smell, and scoots closer, resting his forehead close to his shoulder. ā€œBut thank you, Katsuki.ā€ He hasnā€™t said that name in ages, but that doesnā€™t come from any animosity on his part. Kacchan has always been and will always be Kacchan. Izuku feels him move as Kacchan places his chin on top of his matted curls, and they stay like that for a while, with their past laid to rest at last.
Kacchan speaks up first.
ā€œListen, Deku, everything is getting pretty fucking real,ā€ he pauses for a moment. ā€œShit is really dangerous for any of us, but for you it is like a thousand times worse. Your ass is a fucking death magnet, and itā€™s driving me crazy.ā€
ā€œOne For All is a big responsibility, Kacchan, but itā€™s not yours.ā€ He does his best to keep his voice low and soft, the weight of the legacy crushing him.
ā€œThe Hell is not!ā€ Kacchan retorts vehemently. ā€œYou made it my deal the moment you told me!ā€ Izuku winced. ā€œWhatā€™s up with that? Wasn't that the biggest secret ever? Are you that much of a blabber mouth?ā€
Izuku clutches his arm harder.
ā€œI wasnā€™t going to let you think I lied all those years.ā€ He explains, and in a moment of bravery, he continues. ā€œIā€™ve never been anything but honest with you, Kacchan.ā€
The anger in his voice disappears as fast as it came.
ā€œI know that, idiot.ā€ His bigger hand finds Izukuā€™s hip. ā€œOne for All is your responsibility, but you are mine.ā€ Izuku is pretty sure he stops breathing. ā€œSince we were fucking four years old, and you were this quirkless little shit that wouldnā€™t quit chasing after me, no matter how much I pushed you away.ā€ Kacchan scoffs and his breath tickles him. ā€œWell, congrats, dumbass, now you have me and Iā€™m not going anywhere.ā€ His heart flies to his throat and doesnā€™t let any word come out. Kacchan growls, clearly bothered by his silence. ā€œAll for One VS One For All is the fucking shit show for the ages, and of course you, Deku of all people, have to be right in the middle of that crap.ā€ He talks through clenched teeth, and Izuku longs to soothe him, but thereā€™s nothing he can say to fix the situation. ā€œAll those who fell against that fucking maniac and now you have to-ā€ Kacchan chokes up, and punches Izuku on the arm. ā€œWhatever, there's nothing I can do for those nobodies that came before you, but you have an advantage over them.ā€
ā€œWhatā€™s that?ā€ He whispers in a small voice, not believing he is having this conversation in bed with his childhood friend.
ā€œYou have me,ā€ Kacchan utters, and Izuku feels like he hit him with an explosion, sweeping his feet from under him. ā€œJust let me set something straight, Deku, Iā€™m not going to be your fucking sidekick, you hear me? You watch my back and I watch yours. I donā€™t trust anyone to keep up with you.ā€
I donā€™t trust anyone else to protect you.
ā€œKacchan-ā€
ā€œYou deal with this crap once and for fucking all, Deku, and we come up on top.ā€ Kacchan declares, Izuku can hear the smirk in his words, and he has to smile back. ā€œI donā€™t settle for anything but the best, and taking down fucking evil incarnated, Iā€™m in, Deku, Iā€™m all in.ā€ He disentangles them, leaning back with a vulnerable expression, and offers his hand for Izuku to clasp. ā€œWhat do you say?ā€
Izuku wants to say no, push him away from danger and lock him somewhere where he is going to be safe, but he knows Kacchan. He is determined, stubborn to a fault, and braver than anyone he has met. If he sets his mind on protecting Izuku, nothing is going to stop Kacchan, not even him.
Thatā€™s why Izuku loves him like he does.
In this space, with just the two of them, Izuku can be honest with himself: He is scared, and he has been for a while.
Scared of not living up to All Mightā€™s hopes.
Scared of never mastering this power.
Scared of letting down all the people that gave up their lives to take down All For One.
Scared of being the wrong choice.
At the end of the day, Midoriya Izuku is terrified of not being enough.
In the midst of all the fear and doubt, he sees Kacchan; the person Izuku admires the most, the hero he has chased since he was four years old, and the driving force behind his progress. Kacchan, who knows all of him, and understands him because he sees Izuku for who he is, all the good and bad parts.
His Kacchan, who is now offering to help him and ease his burden, risking his dream, his precious life in the process, to stay close to Izuku and protect him.
A part of him, the one that imitates All Might, is screaming at him that he has to reject the support, to do it on his own. He should hold the weight of the legacy by himself. However, the other part of him, the one that believes Kacchan is what victory looks like, tells him he isnā€™t All Might and he doesnā€™t have to be.
He is Midoriya Izuku, and he is allowed to live his life and fight his battles on his terms, just as Kacchan does.
He clasps his hand, and Kacchan smiles, without a trace of mockery or anger, just plain happiness and relief lifting the corners of his mouth. Izuku hasn't seen him smile like that in years, and he needs to say something. He means to say yes to his offer, maybe thank him, but what comes out instead is:
ā€œI love you.ā€
The punched out gasp that Kacchan lets out shocks Izuku more than his confession does. He canā€™t believe the words he has hidden for so long in his heart escaped that easily. More shocking is the fact that he doesnā€™t want to take it back. Even if he is scared of many things, Kacchan isnā€™t one of them. Yes, Kacchan frustrates him, he worries him, and makes him nervous, but Izuku is not scared of him, never has been. He can die any day now, any of them can, and he is done with silencing his feelings.
Kacchan is not screaming or scowling, neither he is leaping out of the bed and running away from him, so Izuku would say he is mostly stunned, although he doesnā€™t see why. His feelings for him are a key part of the person he is. Izuku admires him, cares for him.
Izuku loves him.
ā€œDo you mean it?ā€ The question seems to pain him. He hasnā€™t released his hand.
ā€œYes, Kacchan.ā€ Izuku is not hiding it, not anymore.
ā€œAfter everything?ā€
The words strike his heart and cut deeply. Izuku doesnā€™t hold any grudge or resentment, and he canā€™t tolerate the idea of Kacchan thinking he can feel something for him despite their past.
ā€œBecause of everything, Kacchan,ā€ Izuku replies, touching their joined hands with his forehead, shying from the red eyes. ā€œThe past doesnā€™t disappear, but thatā€™s not our present, and definitely not our future.ā€ He takes a deep breath to calm his heart. ā€œYou donā€™t have to say anything. I didnā€™t say it to get an answer.ā€
ā€œDeku, you can do so much better,ā€ Kacchan says, bluntly.
Izuku doesn't let the obvious rejection deter him from speaking with the truth.
ā€œI donā€™t see how,ā€ he stares at him, mustering a wonky smile. ā€œYou are you, Kacchan; youā€™re brave, honest, loyal, brilliant, and hardworking.ā€ The words spill without filter, and he drinks the sight of his pale skin blushing. ā€œItā€™s not about doing better, just who I choose, because when it comes down to it, I chose you a long time ago, Kacchan.ā€
Kacchan tips his head up, the blond strands cloaking his eyes. Izuku refuses to regret coming clean about his feelings, but as the silence grows between them, he starts to fidget. Little by little, he realizes the true weight of his confession, and the bridges he might be burning.
ā€œThis doesnā€™t have to change anything, Kacchan.ā€
ā€œIt changes everything, Deku,ā€ he replies, not missing a beat.
Izuku curses his luck; it was just like him to confess his love right when Kacchan finally came back to him, something Izuku hadnā€™t dreamt in his wildest dreams. Dealing with these feelings much longer, when they are so powerful and consuming is not possible. Still, he should have tried, for the sake of their friendship.
A callous finger touches his chin, breaking his spiral of thoughts, and lifts his face. The fiery eyes are wide and defenseless, embers instead of the wild inferno Izuku expected.
The first touch of chapped lips is an awakening, and his first kiss is over before he can finish tasting it.
Kacchan leans back, and for the second time in his life, Izukuā€™s mind goes blank and his body moves on its own, chasing after him. Their second kiss is messy, they donā€™t have any experience, but Izuku is lost to it. He tries to commit to memory every brush of their lips and ragged gasps, how soft is his blond hair, and the feeling of fingers sinking in his curls, guiding the kiss.
They break apart, but stay close.
"You didnā€™t have to do that, Kacchan,ā€ he says against his mouth.
ā€œI never do shit I donā€™t want to do, Deku.ā€
Izuku grabs him again, bunching up his t-shirt, so full of love that he fears he is going to float away if he doesnā€™t get a firm grip.
ā€œDeku, I-ā€œ his voice quivers and Izuku kisses him again, softly and reassuringly.
ā€œItā€™s okay, Kacchan, you donā€™t have to say anything yet.ā€ Izuku told him because he wanted him to know, but he has had years to come to terms with it. Heā€™s not expecting Kacchan to figure everything out right now.
ā€œYou better stick around after that, you damn nerd,ā€ he touches their foreheads together. ā€œOr take me with you. Two options, Iā€™m magnanimous like that.ā€
Izuku giggles, the sound so foreign after the past weeks.
ā€œOkay, Kacchan, for that Iā€™ll stick around.ā€
ā€œOr youā€™ll take me with you.ā€
Izuku is still terrified of anything happening to him, but he trusts him the most.
ā€œIā€™ll stick around or take you with me,ā€ he promises, and Kacchan nods satisfied, wrapping Izuku in his arms and hugging him closer. ā€œI thought you said I stink.ā€
ā€œYou fucking do,ā€ Kacchan says immediately. ā€œWhen I think about this, the first thing that is going to pop into my mind is that my first kiss smelled like a wet dog.ā€
Izuku laughs until he cries, and Kacchan joins him.
At one point, his back is to Kacchan, and heā€™s playing with his hands. Izukuā€™s so relaxed his eyes are drifting close, sleep taking over.
ā€œHey, Deku,ā€
ā€œYes, Kacchan?ā€ he says drowsily.
ā€œYou have magnificent taste.ā€
Izuku snorts, pulling his arm tighter around him.
ā€œIā€™m going to sleep now,ā€ he murmurs, and he jumps when Kacchan buries his face on the crook of his neck. ā€œWake me up if something happens.ā€
ā€œYou can trust me, Deku, nobody is going to pass through me.ā€
Izuku believes him with his entire heart, but he still chooses to only think and not say what crosses his mind before falling asleep in his arms:
I would die before letting anything happen to you.

summary: Team ZIT face a blast from Zedaph's past
...
ā€œI dunno about you but I think having only a set of coordinates sent to our communicators with no explanation is never a good thing,ā€ says Tango, gazing around the clearing.
Impulse nods. ā€œAgreed. Especially considering itā€™s been five minutes andā€¦ nobodyā€™s here.ā€
As if on cue, someone walks out through the trees. The two jerk in surprise but relax when they register who it is.
ā€œOh, Zed, itā€™s you,ā€ breathes Tango. ā€œWhy did you send us these coords?ā€
Zedaph doesnā€™t reply as he walks over to a tree on the edge of the clearing and pulls a lever.
Immediately, a glass box springs up from the ground and closes around the two.
ā€œHey!ā€ Tango snaps, hitting the glass with his first. ā€œWhat the hell are you doing, Zed?!ā€
ā€œTango?!ā€ comes Zedaphā€™s voice from the opposite side of the clearing.
Tango and Impulse turn sharply to findā€¦ Zedaph running into the clearing.
After a stunned moment, they turn back. Zedaph is standing by the lever he just pulled, but he doesnā€™t look EXACTLY like Zedaph anymore. His eyes flash red, his hair more tousled and a slightly darker shade of blond.
ā€œWhatā€™s happening here?!ā€ Tango demands. ā€œWhy are there two of you? Whoā€™s the real Zed?!ā€
ā€œI am,ā€ says the newcomer Zedaph immediately. ā€œHeā€™sā€¦ā€
His face pales as he properly registers whoā€™s standing on the other side of the clearing.
ā€œIā€™m Helsaph,ā€ the first Zedaph says. ā€œYour dear Zedaphā€™s hels counterpart.ā€
ā€œWhatā€™s going on?ā€ asks Impulse nervously. ā€œWhy have you locked us in a glass box?ā€
ā€œOh, cuz I thought you might want to hear about what Zedaph did to me,ā€ Helsaph responds aggressively.
Zedaph slowly moves forward towards Helsaph, but stops several blocks away. ā€œIā€¦ā€
ā€œWhat the hell could Zed have possibly done to YOU?ā€ Tango growls.
Helsaph jabs his finger at his counterpart. ā€œYou wanna tell them what you did or shall I?ā€
Zedaphā€™s mouth opens and closes uselessly for a few seconds, before he squeezes his eyes shut and looks away.
Helsaph turns to the two in the box. ā€œLet me see if this jogs your memory of anything.ā€
He pulls out a pink item from his pocket and holds it up to his eyes.
Tango and Impulse freeze in horror.
ā€œLook familiar?ā€ says Helsaph challengingly. ā€œHuh?ā€
Impulse stares helplessly at the helsmit. ā€œI donā€™tā€¦ understand.ā€
Helsaph barks a laugh. ā€œWhat, you donā€™t really think it was the real Zedaph under that mask, do you? Surely you donā€™t really think the mastermind behind the PR stunt that was Wormman would be out there risking his OWN neck?ā€
ā€œZed, what is he saying?ā€ Tango demands.
ā€œI recruited Helsaph to be Wormman and then I abandoned him in Season 5 when we moved on to the next world!ā€ Zedaph bursts out suddenly.
Silence falls. Tango and Impulse exchange a look of horror.
ā€œYou didnā€™t know that, huh?ā€ Helsaph taunts. ā€œGuess your precious little best friend never told you that heā€™s not the moral angel you think he is.ā€
ā€œZedā€¦ā€ Impulse gazes at his friend in disappointment. ā€œWhy?ā€
Zedaph doesnā€™t answer. Instead, he murmurs, ā€œThere. I said it. Is that what you wanted, Helsaph?ā€
Helsaph grabs Zedaph by the collar and yanks him off the ground. ā€œIs that it?! ā€œIs that what you wanted?ā€?! YOU ABANDONED ME IN A GHOST WORLD FOR THREE YEARS!ā€
He tosses Zedaph away as if Zedaph weighed nothing. No sooner has Zedaph landed on the ground than he looks up to find Helsaph charging at him. He canā€™t react in time to stop Helsaph from slamming his boot into his stomach, yanking all the air from his lungs and causing him to dissolve into a fit of coughing.
ā€œZED!ā€ Tango screeches, hitting the glass wall with all his strength. It starts to crack under his blows.
ā€œYou made me play the hero!ā€ Helsaph yells at his counterpart. ā€œYou trained me and spent time with me and made me CARE about you and then you just tossed me aside like I was NOTHING to you! Do you have any idea how much it hurts to learn that the person you thought loved you actually didnā€™t give a DAMN about you?!ā€
ā€œIā€¦!ā€ Zedaphā€™s voice fails and he hangs his head. ā€œIā€™mā€¦ Iā€™m sorry...ā€
ā€œOh, youā€™re SORRY?ā€
Helsaph grabs Zedaph by the throat and slams him against a tree, the pressure on Zedaphā€™s windpipe abruptly cutting off his breathing.
ā€œYou think SORRY is going to make up for what you did?!ā€
ā€œGet off him!ā€ screams Tangoā€™s voice.
A second later, Tango himself barrels into Helsaph, knocking him to the ground and releasing his grip on Zedaph, who drops to his knees, gasping for breath.
Impulse appears at Zedaphā€™s side and envelopes him in a hug. ā€œItā€™s okay,ā€ he whispers. ā€œItā€™s okay, Zed.ā€
A little way off, Tango is kneeling on Helsaphā€™s back, keeping him pressed to the ground. As Helsaph struggles against Tangoā€™s grip on his arms, he screams, ā€œAll I wanted was to be loved! ALL I WANTED WAS TO BE ACCEPTED!ā€
ā€œShut up!ā€ Tango snarls at him.
ā€œTango, donā€™t hurt him!ā€ pleads Zedaph hoarsely, his vision blurred. Weakly pushing Impulse away, he stumbles blindly towards the hazy figures of Helsaph and Tango. ā€œLet him go!ā€
ā€œLet him go?!ā€ Tango echoes in disbelief. ā€œHE TRIED TO KILL YOU!ā€
ā€œPlease, Tango! Let him go!ā€
Tango stares at Zedaph in disbelief for a moment, before huffing and releasing Helsaph, though he keeps a firm eye on the helsmit. ā€œFine.ā€
Helsaph slowly pushes himself to his knees, his eyes fixed on Zedaph. All his anger seems to have vanished, replaced by despair. ā€œWhy did you not want me anymore?ā€ he cries. ā€œW-Was I not good enoughā€¦? Did I do something wrongā€¦?ā€
ā€œNoā€¦! I never intended to hurt you.ā€ Zedaphā€™s voice cracks with emotion. ā€œThis is all my fault. I should never have abandoned you, Iā€¦ I was just so scared of what you might become that I never considered I could help you not become it. And insteadā€¦ my worst fears came true, and itā€™s all my fault. Helsaph, Iā€™m so sorry.ā€
Zedaph slowly moves forward and, kneeling down in front of Helsaph, brings him into a hug.
And after a few seconds, the dam breaks.
Tango and Impulse stand together a safe distance away, watching their best friend hug his crying Hels counterpart.
ā€œAll he ever wanted was a family,ā€ says Impulse quietly. ā€œPeople to care about him the way we care about Zed.ā€
Tango hesitates for a moment, then makes a decision. He joins Zedaph and Helsaph on the ground and wraps his arms around both of them. Impulse does the same on the other side, both he and Tango holding their Zedaphs tightly.
ā€œI wanna be a hero again, Zedaph,ā€ croaks Helsaph. ā€œHave I messed it up?ā€
ā€œNo no, you havenā€™t messed anything up,ā€ Zedaph says reassuringly. ā€œIf anything, Iā€™M the one who messed everything up. Can you forgive me, Helsā€¦?ā€
Helsaph sits back on his heels, regarding Zedaph with wary eyes. ā€œButā€¦ But how do I know you wonā€™t abandon me again if I stop being useful?ā€
Zedaph anxiously clasps his hands together. ā€œI know you wonā€™t trust me again for a long time, and thatā€™sā€¦ thatā€™s completely valid. But Iā€¦ I refuse to judge your worth based on how ā€œusefulā€ you are again. From now on, youā€™re my brother and Iā€™ll stick by you, no matter what.ā€
ā€œBā€¦ Brotherā€¦?ā€ repeats Helsaph shakily. ā€œYou meanā€¦?ā€
ā€œYouā€™re part of the ZIT family now,ā€ Impulse chuckles, tousling Helsaphā€™s hair. ā€œDouble Zedaph.ā€
Helsaph stares at Impulse with wide eyes. ā€œIā€¦ Why would you want me here after everything I didā€¦?ā€
ā€œBecause Zed made some mistakes and heā€™s my friend so I want to help him fix them,ā€ Impulse replies kindly. ā€œRight, Tango?ā€
Tango nods back. ā€œAbsolutely. Plus, I mean, you can never have too much Zedaph, know what I mean?ā€
Sensing that Helsaph is about to cry again, Zedaph quickly steps in and says, ā€œYou know, Hels, you actually arrived at a great time. We could do with a hero right now. You remember Evil X?ā€
Helsaph nods, wiping his eyes with the back of his sleeve. ā€œVery well.ā€
ā€œTheyā€™re back on the server causing a bit of mischief, running a scheme thatā€™s definitely a scam. The server could use a hero to keep an eye on them and make sure they donā€™t do anything evil.ā€ Zedaph grins. ā€œWhat do you think? You up to the challenge?ā€
ā€œIā€¦ā€ Helsaph hesitates. ā€œIā€™m out of practise.ā€
ā€œDonā€™t you worry about that,ā€ says Tango. ā€œWeā€™ll help ya.ā€
ā€œYeah, weā€™re gonna train you back up into the best superhero on the server,ā€ Impulse adds happily.
Zedaph hands Helsaph the pink mask the latter dropped earlier. ā€œWelcome back, Wormman,ā€ he says softly.
After a moment, Helsaph takes the mask and puts it on.
And with this action, Helsaphā€™s road to recovery, surrounded by his brand new family, begins.

Touya is Dead, Dabi is Here.
Tumblr media
Dabi is the foil to Endeavor. His villainous foil. However, not everything is about Endeavor. Letā€™s shove him to the side for a second. Dabi is also the villainous foil to himself, in a stranget twist and turn of events. Dabi has a villain persona that he plays up, heā€™s trying to show everyone that heā€™s the monster created by Endeavorā€™s monstrous actions, but I think heā€™s also playing himself as the opposite of Touya, the villainous foil to Touyaā€™s once heroic ambitions. Touya was supposed to die, but Touya lived. Now, Dabi is trying to destroy everything Touya is, by embodying the opposite of everything Touya was.Ā
1. The Child Who Didnā€™t Get Saved
Touyaā€™s remembered in a certain way by his family members. Endeavor doesnā€™t even seem to pity the child who died on his watch, so much as he pities himself. He pities the fact that he didnā€™t get to raise his son up into a successor. When he sees the scarred up Dabi still alive in front of him, he doesnā€™t feel happiness that his long dead son is alive, or even pity for the monster covered in burns.Ā
Tumblr media
His first thought is disappointment, that Dabi didnā€™t grow up into what he wanted him to be. Natsu remembers the crying child that always clung to him, but he probably has the most realistic view of his brother. Someone who was suffering under his father, and someone whose pain shouldnā€™t be forgiven or swept under the rug. Whereas Fuyumi and Shoto who were both less close to Touya, donā€™t even seem to know how to talk about him, or how to feel.Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Touya is in the eyes of others around him, either a sad and tragic case. A crying child in need of saving who unfortanately did not get saved. Or heā€™s just not talked about at all. Iā€™m not going to talk about Shoto and Fuyumi because of course they donā€™t know how to feel about the death of their own brother, and their mom who theyā€™ve been seperated from for a decorated theyā€™re coming to terms with all that slowly but... not only did society as a whole forget about Touya but, Endeavor too. He doesnā€™t really see Touya. He just sees an unfortanate lost child. He sees a son who he wants to come home. Touya died so young, and so suddenly that his feelings arenā€™t really recognized. Nobody really knows Touya, and the Touya they all understand is the sad child he used to be. The sad, pitiful, tragic, child.Ā
Tumblr media
And is it any wonder that Touya doesnā€™t want to be this person anymore? That Dabi denies being this person? If all Touya used to be was a sad child, constantly crying, who was never good enough no matter how hard he tried. Then wouldnā€™t it make sense that Dabi wouldnā€™t want to be this person anymore?Ā
Tumblr media
Itā€™s painful being Touya. Touya is vulnerable, a child who couldnā€™t do anything about his situation. A child who tried so hard he ended up burning himself. Not only is Touya vulnerable, heā€™s frail, weak, all the things Dabi doesnā€™t want to be and all the things his father found worthless. Touya has flames stronger than anyone, but a weak constitution to go along with it, so much so he always ends up hurting himself with his own fire. Itā€™s pretty obvious to see that Dabi is in pain, everyone else around him except for Dabi himself seems to notice it. Heā€™s covered in burn wounds at all times, heā€™s literally constantly smoking, and just barely stitched together. Yet, Dabi denies being in pain, and through doing that, he denies himself.Ā
2. That Child Grew Up Into An Asshole
Tumblr media
Denial is a coping mecahnism.Ā  Refusing to acknowledge that something is wrong is a way of coping with emotional conflict, stress, painful thoughts, threatening information and anxiety.Ā Rather than simply being vulnerable, itā€™s sometimes easier to deny that you are ever vulnerable atall. Especially for people like Dabi who spent long periods in their childhood feeling helpless and week.Ā
From the moment a baby comes into the world, forming attachments to parents or other caregivers is critical to a childā€™s emotional, physical and psychological development. For an infant, having a gentle and responsive caregiver provides the nurturing a child needs to grow into a healthy adult. A cared for child develops self-esteem, feels secure in exploring the world around him or her and has a strong foundation for understanding how to build healthy relationships later in life.
But if those earliest relationships break down, the child may experience what is known as abandonment or neglect trauma.
One way of coping with this trauma is to be entirely self sufficient. To basically close up, never need to rely on other people ever, and therefore never open up. Basically, what Dabi denies more than anything else is his vulnerability, even though itā€™s obvious heā€™s in pain.Ā
Vulnerability, after all is the reason he got abandoned. Touya was tossed to the side because he was too weak. Therefore, in an effort to be strong Dabi denies feeling any pain at all, and in the process shuts out his other feelings. He also denies anything, his connection to his family, any feelings of guilt or remorse he might have.
Self-denail, and self-abuse, itā€™s the same reason kids from bad homes end up acting irresponsibly and abusing drugs, itā€™s all a fancy way to hurt yourself.Ā
Tumblr media
If overthinking about things causes him pain, causes him to break Dabiā€™s solution is to simply not think about things. If being Touya is too painful for him, then Dabi chooses not to be a person and plays up the monster.Ā
Tumblr media
Itā€™s almost like Dabi and Touya are two separate people stitched sloppily together, but theyā€™re coming apart slowly at the seams. Dabi pretends to be a remorseless villain when facing off with Endeavor, but then in front of the crowds when heā€™s begging for sympathy he shows off all of his burns, sits politely, and presents a character that is much more human making his case that he killed innocent people but he did so with reason, for a good cause. While, the same Dabi instead of Endaevor seems to just want to burn everything for the fun of it. The point being that, Dabi contradicts himself a lot. He argues with himself.Ā
Tumblr media
Itā€™s because Dabi is putting on deliberate acts. Heā€™s changing himself based on the audience. Itā€™s just that heā€™s also not as good of an actor as he thinks he is. However the performance seems to be pretty consistent at least for the most part, he wants everyone to regret what Touya became because of Endeavorā€™s abuse so he purposefully makes himself into the opposite of everything Touya was. Touya wanted to be a hero to carry on his fatherā€™s legacy, Dabi is a villain dedicated to completely destroying his fatherā€™s reputation and leading him to ruin.Ā
Tumblr media
Touya was known for being particularly close to Natsuo, not only playing with him all the time, but confiding in him. Touya must have been a good big brother to Natsuo if Natsuo misses him so much. Yet, Dabi acts like Natsuo is nothing special, just another casualty in his revenge on Endeavor.Ā
Tumblr media
Touya was someone always working hard to earn Endeavorā€™s attention and please him. Dabi seems to only want to bring about Endeavorā€™s ruin and think of ways of hurting him. Thereā€™s a certain irony in Dabi being so laser focused on Endeavor, because once again you reap what you sow. Endeavor wanted to raise his child to exist solely for his purpose, to carry on his legacy, to center everything around Endeavorā€™s needs rather than to care for another living human being with needs of his own and thatā€™s what he got - someone who is singularly laser focused and obsessed with bringing him down. Even if Touya is still obsessed with only Endeavor to the point of forgetting the rest of his family, thatā€™s literally just a symptom, a side effect of child abuse, of Endeavor raising Touya with the expectation that he had to please him.
Tumblr media
Touya was a kid who is always crying, and Dabi seems to have no feelings at all. Once again, always, always he presents himself as the opposite of everything that Touya was and wanted to be.Ā
Dabi denies that he is Touya, and therefore denies that he is in pain.Ā
Tumblr media
He pulls his brother close, and hugs him, and then does the opposite of what a big brother is supposed and hurts his younger brother instead of protecting him.
Itā€™s not just Dabi being the opposite of Touya, itā€™s almost like heā€™s doing everything he can, toĀ  burn up and riun Touyaā€™s memory. To deny that any part of him ever was Touya.Ā
Dabi is in denial, but also I think some part of Dabi is aware of his denial. Like I said, he contradicts himself. He says that these are Endeavrosā€™ flames, then just as easily he saysĀ ā€œno duh, itā€™s obvious Iā€™m not Endeavor.ā€Ā
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Dabi realizes what he is doing, itā€™s just at the moment he believes he has to do this. Itā€™s the only way. Whatever, Dabi is hoping to achieve, the radical reform of society, the destruciton of the hero system, itā€™s more important the feelings of his family, and more important than his own feelings.Ā
However, if those feelings are there it means Dabi isnā€™t without hope. Thereā€™s still a human side to Dabi. Dabi is still Touya, the same way Shigaraki is same Tenko. Their child selves died, but they never did die. Dabi is trying to be pure evil, but parts of him are still good heā€™s just suppressing himself.Ā
I think what Dabi needs to realize is that his hurt feelings, his feelings of vulnerability, are just as important as the strength he fights with. He needs both parts of himself in order to live on, weak little Touya and villainous Dabi. I donā€™t think Dabi will turn into a 100% good person, but as for character development the same way that Shoto is learning to reconcile his two disparagent sides, his ice and his flames. I hope that Dabi learns that heā€™s still Touya, while being Dabi at the same time. Heā€™s not a villain, heā€™s someone capable of being both good and bad. Itā€™s only that way he can learn to live on as Touya, rather than hoping to die and drag his father to hell with him as Dabi.Ā

Go kart competition for all the skeletons! Let's raise the stakes and say they were dragged to the event regardless. Enemies can be at opposite ends of the starting line. Who is flat out refusing to race. Who wins the top 5. Who gets last place and who creates a pile up? (Or anything similar)
Lol, the only guys who would opt out are the horror papyri. Noir and willow really donā€™t want to f*ck up their backs from this and unless thereā€™s a go cart out there that can house 7ā€™11 basil, heā€™s gonna politely decline. Theyā€™ll play cheerleader though.
If this ever happened, I bet itā€™d be at a barrier festival. I can see the guys running into some of each other and declaring a war between skeletons lol
Sans: heā€™s a big weenie thatā€™s allergic to pain. The second it looks like someone is going to crash into him, heā€™s shortcutting out of the cart. Abandon ship!
Papyrus: remember how edge doesnā€™t really like papyrus that much? Well itā€™s not fair that edge is friends with sans and not him! So papyrus has declared that him and edge are teaming up for this race! You canā€™t escape friendship edge!!!
Star: he tried to tell lilac you maybe sit this one out. Lilac refused and accused Star of babying him. Now they are mortal enemies for the day. The first race lilac friggin made Star drive into a ditch lol. The second race Star flipped lilacs kart. Now Jupiter is sacrificing his win ti drive between those two
Honey: heā€™s a big weenie who doesnā€™t have the blessing of shortcuts. After getting wiped out the first race, honey plays injured and hangs out with the horrors the next races
Red: oak keeps getting lost on the track and red ends up going after him. They take a detour and have a nice country road drive instead lol
Edge: for some reason sans annoying little brother insists that they team up for these races. Naturally edge betrays him the first round. But papyrusā€™s face made him feel bad so he plays nice the next two. Mission accomplished papyrus
Mal: he nearly fought with cash over the black and silver kart. Mal won naturally, and he uses the high from his victory to secure first place in all three races. Mal is really good at drifting
Cash: he wanted the black and silver one so bad but his stupid brother had the same idea. So cash ends up with the neon orange kart. He has a fun time causing a pile up in every race with bruiser
Oak: he somehow got off track the first race and went down a deserted country road. Red followed him and they decide to dusty and have a nice cruise instead
Charm: when cash and bruiser cause the pile up, he wound up squashed underneath butch, boss, snipe and the undynes. They were super worried about him even though he insisted he was fine and forced a pouting charm to sit the next two races out.
Sugar: he was also in the pile up, but boss saved his butt by pulling him on top of himself before sugar could tumble with his kart. Sugar spends the rest of the day swooning over his hero
Pop: he gets second place in all three races. Pop isnā€™t as skilled as mal, but he uses his small size to pick up speed
Rhythm: he was smart. Rhythm could see that bloodthirsty look in bruisers eye and decided to linger in the back. He helps clean up the pile up of the first race lol
Pluto: he actually gets third on the first race. Pluto was inherent in the back but when he saw the pile up, he panicked and floated himself above the others along with his kart. Nobody disputed it lol
Jupiter: with Star and lilac at war, Jupiter decides itā€™s his personal duty to make sure they donā€™t kill each other. Normally this is papyrusā€™s job, but heā€™s hanging off of edge for some weird reason.
Lord: he ends up sharing a kart with wine. Partly because they have an odd number of guys racing with the undynes, and also because wine doesnā€™t care about the race and takes them off track to go get Starbucks instead lol. They come back an hour late with some frappes
Mutt: he saves coffee from the pile up by pulling him into his kart and rolling off track. But they both killed their karts in the process, so coffee texts his brother to get him some coffee. They wind up chilling with basil and watching the show
Wine: he was already planning on ditching, but coffee wanted Starbucks so now wine has an excuse
Coffee: dude mutt is his knight in shining armor today. Coffee is super pissed at cash and bruiser right now and is already planning his revenge. Maybe a glitter bombā€¦
G: for once heā€™s glad his brother is such a snob. Green wanted his help first at the fairs stand. Greens practice had a display for scholarships for monster and half breed medical students but one of the volunteers bailed. G probably wouldā€™ve broken an arm in that race. Heā€™s brittle
Green: heā€™s much to busy at his practices display to join the go kart race. Not that he would want to anyways. He winds up finding boss later and healing the crack in his arm he earned from saving sugar
Peaches: the farm bros are also out of the race. They have their farmers market section to take care of
Rancher: heā€™s gonna be pissed when he hears he missed the pile up
Snipe: he knew letting butch convince him to join was a bad idea. With all these enemies in one place snipe could just feel that someone will escalate. After his own little brother caused that first pile up, he plays injured like honey and sneaks off to hang out with the farm bros
Bruiser: heā€™s the villain of today lol. And for once, bruiser isnā€™t getting revenge on another skeleton. This time heā€™s targeting tempest. She had him in a thirty minute headlock yesterday and was still gloating. When the race started, bruiser looked her in the eye and promised that heā€™d make sure she wound even cross half the track. He delivered
Butch: he does get lucky enough to get third in the last race. Technically he tied for third with Star and lilac. But he still had fun. Butch isnā€™t even mad at being the near bottom of a pile up that first round
Boss: heā€™s rather protective of sugar so when he saw him about you be dragged under another kart, boss acted out of instinct. He pulls him out of the way but suffers a small crack on his arm for the trouble. He had bayou didnā€™t even notice till green healed him later. He has a pretty high pain tolerance
Ace: he also saw that look in bruisers eye and feeling generous, ace decides to share a kart with slim. He knows his brother will pop away at the first sign of trouble. Ace doesnā€™t even have to go through the effort of shortcutting himself! Genius lol
Slim: like sans, the second he sees danger he shortcuts out. And since ace was in the kart with him, he takes his brother along for the ride.
Rust: he hangs back and avoids the destruction of the first race. Then rust spends the rest of the festival wondering where red and oak went
Lilac: he is SICK AND TIRED of Star treating him like heā€™s brittle. So lilac gives his younger counterpart a hard time during the races. Star forgets, lilac might not be as fast, but heā€™s a lot bigger. It just takes a tap from him for starts cart to spin off track. After that itā€™s game on lol

i saw this post here and just wanted to dissect everything lmao
aot 139 spoilersĀ
ā€œEren admits that he literally killed 80% of the worldā€™s population, he then says he only did it so it would look like eldians stopped a threatā€
eren admit to killing 80% of the population bc he did... heā€™s admitting to what he did, and he says that he wanted to paint them to be the heroesā€” but not only did he do that, he ended the curse of ymir and gained freedom for his people. it wasnā€™t just to paint them as heroes
ā€œHe also did it so the rest of the world couldnt murder themā€
he didnā€™tĀ ā€œalsoā€ do it for that reason, it was an effect, the rumbling ended up killing so many people that they canā€™t wage war on the eldians like eren says, it keeps them a little safe which they needed especially since some of humanity knows that paradis is what started the rumbling. itā€™s a cause and effect type thing. because eren killed 80% of the population that remaining population wonā€™t be able to retaliate and try to kill the eldians since there are so little of them
the tybur family is treated like some of martyr and apparently pulling the strings which led to the deaths of millions of innocent eldians was actually a GOOD thing
this scene was interpreted wrong, armin saysĀ ā€œ...so you want us to be like the tyburs after the great titan war? weā€™re supposed to protect paradis from reprisal from humanity outside the walls?ā€ heā€™s asking eren if thatā€™s what theyā€™re gonna do, he never says itā€™s a good thing. then thatā€™s when eren explains that either way so much of humanity is destroyed that they wouldnā€™t be able to retaliate if they wanted to
Armin THANKS him for it
armin thanks eren for doing what he did to free them. not thanking eren for for mass murder period. itā€™s because of eren that the curse is lifted and that they are free and thatā€™s what arminā€™s thanking eren for. mass murder is inexcusable, and eren knows that. thatā€™s why after he panics and goesĀ ā€œbut i dont want to die!ā€ he comes to a realization that all the people he killed didnā€™t want to either, that the only way to atone for his sins is by dying himself. even if he didnā€™t die he wouldā€™ve probably been executed, or imprisoned for the rest of the life. just like in mikasaā€™s ova,Ā ā€œerenā€™s death is inevitable, no matter what reality you go to eren will always die because he carries death within himself.ā€Ā
in another translation of the chapter armin thanks eren for being the bad guy so that they could win. he knows what eren did was bad. heā€™s not excusing it, he just understands why eren had to do it and that eren had no choice if he wanted them to be free.Ā
from the get go freedom was one of the themes of erenā€™s character. if eren lived the whole entire world would be ruins and eren wouldā€™ve been even sadder than now, there would be nobody and it wouldā€™ve been worse than it is now. eren killing everyone was definitely not the ending to go. the ending we have couldā€™ve been executed differently, sure, but in my eyes since i get the gist i think isa did an amazing job portraying what he had in mind.Ā
ā€œArmin is more upset with Eren saying he doesnt know how he feels about Mikasa moving on than mass genocideā€
once again, armin isnā€™t all that upset with eren because he understands that eren had a path laid out for him that he had no choice to follow. the point of eren committing mass genocide keeps getting brought up as if itā€™s not know that mass genocide is a terrible thing. it is and thatā€™s why everyone was so angry about it from the get go, thatā€™s why that one plan of blackmailing humanity with the rumbling and not actually go through with it was brought up onceā€” because they knew how cruel it is. armin knew how cruel it is as i believe it was him who brought that up
heā€™s upset with eren about mikasaā€™s feelings in like a banter kind of way. itā€™s likeĀ ā€œthis whole entire time this is how you felt but you couldnā€™t tell her that and let her suffer???? donā€™t forget what you said to her, she went through hell!ā€ kind of thing. they had already talked about the whole mass genocide thing, mikasa was the next topic of discussion
ā€œEren then finally shows some fucking emotion and cries abt how he doesnā€™t want mikasa to be with anyone but himā€
in another post i say, "okay so first i think the issue is that a lot of people fail to realize that the way eren acted all throughout season 4 isnā€™t eren really, that is him putting his emotions at bay so that he can complete something that he laid out for himself for his friends.eren from season 1-3 still exists, and thatā€™s lowkey the eren that was talking the whole time in chapter 139ā€” you can see the how he cares for his friends, you can see the desperation again, the compassion, everything in between.ā€Ā
eren is still that s1-3 eren, season 4 eren just had to put his emotions aside so he could walk on the path that ymir put in front of him.Ā
him crying over mikasa was one of his selfish desires coming to light, and it was realistic. itā€™s finally dawning on him that heā€™s gonna die, heā€™s finally getting to sit down and ponder about mikasa, heā€™s getting desperate, heā€™s panicking, and that compassion that heā€™s always had for his friends is showing through again. this gives realism to his characterā€” it makes his character all the more human. one second heā€™s complaining about how he doesnā€™t want to die and wants to be with his friends bc its crashing on him, and the very next second heā€™s trying to be at peace with himself, realising that the only way to atone for what he caused is by dying. one second heā€™s complaining about how he wants miksa to be with anyone but him, the next second heā€™s coming to terms with himself and that mikasa needs to move on, because he loves her and wants her to live a long and happy life even if it means without him. the selfishness that showed for that mere second makes his character realistic. it shows that heā€™s still whiny, that little whiny angry boy from s1-3. he was never heartless and he was never cold. he was and is still eren jaeger, and you get a glimpse of the eren we know in that scene.
The founder ymir was apparently in love with the king???? another women stupidly devoted to a man, great.
iā€™m not too in depth with ymirs story so im not gonna speak too much about this because i myself do wish that whole love thingy went more into depth. i get how mikasa and ymir parallel each other, but other than that iā€™m not too sure myself, and iā€™ll admit that. it could be a case of stockholm syndrome, it could be that bc ymir was infatuated with living and she was confined to such a familial role she wanted to live in that role again with the king bc heā€™s the only person who gave her that familial lifestyle. iā€™m not sure. but if anything mikasa was im pretty sure the only characterĀ ā€œdevotedā€ to a man in aot. and it was because of the role eren played in her life, sheā€™s not a bad written character, she has her developement. which i explain here
apparently mikasaā€™s unhealthy devotion to eren is what took her out of it????? in fact the series overly romanticizes mikasaā€™s love for eren despite the two having no chemistry and eren being an ass to her
in a sense, but thatā€™s a simple minded way of saying it. ymirā€™s devotion to king fritz was unhealthy, eren describes it as ā€œagony of loveā€ because it was pretty unhealthy obvi. like i said ymir and mikasa parallel each other, and seeing mikasa be able to let go and kill the one she loves was that realization for ymir that she was able to do the same thingā€” thatā€™s how i interpret that scene personally.
and in mikasa doing so, killing eren lifts that curse of ymir and frees ymir regardless, so ymir was happy about that as well. thanks to mikasa for cutting erenā€™s head off.Ā
the series doesnā€™t necessarily over romanticize mikasaā€™s love for eren in my opinion. how i see it is that since eren is a big part of mikasaā€™s character he was necessary for her development as well, and her development was to let eren go because of how infatuated she was with him. this being said the series points out how unhealthy the way she loved him was especially in s1-3, and her love becomes more healthy when she gets her development in chap 139, finally being able to let eren go and move on. compare that to in the s1 when eren almost dies and sheā€™s ready to die as well. thats development if you ask me.Ā
one of the themes of the show is sacrifice, and almost every character has made one, mikasa sacrifices erenā€” she kills him and she chooses to go through with that decision despite how much she loves him.Ā
eren was definitely mean to mikasa in s1-3 because she was overbearing, and thats one reason why i say the way she loved him was unhealthy at first. eren wasnā€™t able to reciprocate her love in the way that she loved him because it wasnā€™t healthy. eren also wasnā€™t able to reciprocate it because the last thing he was focused on was the concept of love. once again he had a path laid out for him that he had no choice but to follow, and mikasa didnā€™t have any play in this path until the very end, so the boy who keeps moving forward does just that and doesnā€™t pay her much mind, doesnā€™t get to sit down and think about his feelings for her, what she is to him.
(and i dont think i even need to explain theĀ ā€œmikasa iā€™ve always hated you seen, the chapter covers that enough)
they do have chemistry time to time, the eren v dina fritz scene, the scarf scene,Ā ā€œwhat am i to youā€, little stuff like that goes into play and gives them these little sparks of chemistry. they couldnā€™t always grasp onto the full scope of the relationship they had and it was only some times they were able to do that with everything going on.
apparently the titans are just gone nowā€¦.??? i cant even tell if its because Eren died or because Mikasa really made Ymir calm down
... eren controlling rumbling, eren dies rumbling stops, ymir finally lifts curse bc 1) eren died 2) shes able to come to realization that like mikasa lets eren go, she needs to let fritz go and the curse go. ymir lifts curse, erenā€™s goal is complete, if titan curse is lifted there are no more titans
Characters who murdered thousands and were the cause for AOTā€™s entire plot in the first place are now treated as heroes to the eldiansā€¦ despite the shit that they did.
everyone in aot did someĀ ā€œshitā€ they all are murders, eren commited mass genocide, reiner commited mass murder, annie murdered so many people, reiner, armin destroyed thousands of people in one go, they all have killed somebody. they are seen asĀ ā€œherosā€ because they stopped the rumbling that was going to kill everyone else...... idk about you but if you just saved me from a horrid death, my racist opinion on you doesnā€™t really matter because you just saved my fucking life lmao, yes despite the shit that you didā€” because they have killed people too, and they were ready to kill the eldians still until armin told them that they killed eren, that they saved their lives and eliminated titans for good.... like whew???
the series went from ā€œThe military is coolā€ to ā€œthe military did a lot of fucked up shitā€ to ā€œthe military is SUPER coolā€, and buffed it up
iā€™m not really sure where you got that tbh,, like the military wasnā€™t really a big thing up until the whole marleyan thing??? and they didnā€™t have much plot in the story besides it existing so like iā€™m not sure what to say ab this, i canā€™t really remember many times the military was even mentioned until now, but if anyone wants to elaborate on this for me thatā€™d be nice
oh and they buffed up the military because since paradis had eren jaeger who started the rumbling, just in case, they had to be ready to fight again if the rest of humanity wanted to do something. after marley they updated all their technology, why canā€™t they update the military as well? itā€™s realistic, new weapons, new military, and all that
The military was buffed up bc the eldians are scared of the rest of the world retaliating, so Eren didnā€™t really fix shit except giving the Eldians an upper hand in the war
eren jaeger was the one who always screamedĀ ā€œi will kill all titans, we will get freedomā€ ya de ya de ya.... didnā€™t he do both of those things????? i thought those were some of his main goals as a character, he fixed those issues, the issues that have been issues since the start of the show
the rest of humanity donā€™t know the full scope like the eldians or marleyans, theyā€™re probably just as scared and like in real life not all nations are at peace with one another. this is just another realistic factorā€” attack on titan is becoming a world closest to the real one we live in, there are militaries, there are still conflicts, there is still all these little aspects that bring the manga even more to life.
in my opinion itā€™d lowkey be weird if the rest of the world was just likeĀ ā€œoh yeah those mfs that started the rumbling we love them hahaā€ no... it killed 80% of the population like eren said... thatā€™s not something to love.
Historia has a really disturbing speech about how the fight isnt going to end until either the Eldians or the rest of the world are exterminated, despite Gabi has an entire arc about her being deradicalized and learning to see the other side of things.
and yes i am not kidding, the heroic conclusion is that thereā€™s still going to be a war, eldians are going to commit mass genocide (which was proposed by eren) and people straight up thank eren for the evil shit he did.
ā€œthis fight will not end until either eldia or the world dissapears. this is what eren said and he may be right.ā€ she doesnā€™t say that itā€™s for sure gonna be a fight until one or the other is wiped out, she says thereā€™s a possibility of this being the case because of the fact that these nations arenā€™t at complete peace yet.Ā
not everyone is gonna be able to see the other side of things, and this applies to the whole wordā€” us as humans will never be able to agree on one thing, and thatā€™s what this shows. no matter what the cycle of hatred will always continue, and this applies to real life and this manga. we are human beings and thatā€™s what makes what historia says even more real.Ā ā€œthis is the world we live in, a world without titans.ā€ titans are no longer their conflict. now itā€™s only like the real wordā€” humans against humans, and as far as humanity existed itā€™s always been humans against humans. historiaā€™s speech shows that.
the heroic conclusion is that as a human race nothing will always be agreed upon, eldians are going to fight if they need to like our military fights when they need to. people are thanking eren for freeing them and ending the curse of titans that they suffered with for 2000 years. nobodyā€™s thanking him for his actions of mass genocide, they are thanking him for the motive behind his actions, and thats what makes him so heroic.
that he endured and did something so terrible so that anybody who lives after him can be free, and humanity can continue existing as humanity shouldā€™ve existed from the beginning.
and that concludes this for me, thanks for reading<3.

Note
what do you mean when you say that zuko is a pessimistic idealist and sokka is a pessimistic realist? i love your analyses and iā€™d love to hear more of your thoughts on that!!! (also love how you say sokka and zuko are perfect for each other because theyā€™re both grumps lol)
i do not remember saying that however it does sound like something i would say lmao. i think what i (would) mean with the statement ā€œzuko is a pessimistic idealistā€ is that he grew up... idk if unappreciated is the exact word, but in the militaristic hypermasculine society that valued traits that he did not have in comparison to azula, zuko was always at a disadvantage and he had to run for it, sometimes make rash decisions as they were the better/only decisions he could make at all in order to be appreciated and most times it did not pay off which resulted in the entire mess that is zukoā€™s personality. for all of this, zuko has a tendency to see the worst part of the situation heā€™s in (coming to mind atm ā€˜it blew up in my face ā€” like everything always does!ā€™ ā€˜this city is a prisonā€™ more or less?), so in other words heā€™s grumpy and kinda sour as hell, all the time.
but at the same time, zuko has a certain... idea of the world, a kind and caring heart, a strong sense of justice, an overall vision for a world thatā€™s good. when zuko comes to understand the fire nation is actually actively pushing back this vision, and he practically immediately turns away from its ideals and pursues a philosophy and a group that actually fit his ideas of whatā€™s better for the world. zuko spent three years at sea looking for a myth, in hopes that finding it would finally put an end to his suffering, making him and katara the only people in the world who truly believed the avatar was still out there. zuko is always expecting everything to blow up in his face like it often did throughout his childhood, and he sees the worst part of the situation before anything else but he always pushes back to make it better, or to what he believes would be making it better.
my favorite example of this is during the blue spirit after zuko finds out zhao got the avatar before him, and he gives iroh a speech about how all hope is lost for him and he will never ever have love honor or happiness ever again, and about five hours later heā€™s behind a theatre mask with two swords against the world rescuing the avatar just so he can capture this avatar himself in the future, while also letting him go afterwards because itā€™s not honorable to take him in the easy manner he could take him at that precise moment(???) and that was just nuts. therefore pessimistic idealist.
on the other hand thereā€™s sokka.
sokka is a pessimist through and through, a serial complainer, a paranoid neurotic strategist. sokka grew up in disadvantage to the rest of the world and overshadowed by a his little sister ā€” not because katara was a bender and sokka was not, but because katara was the last bender they had left. iā€™ve talked about this before but basically itā€™s no wonder katara is a solid optimistic idealist with all the hope and faith and determination in the world while sokka is a pessimistic realist and pragmatic depressed cynical bastard. presumably his village but also sokka put himself at disadvantage. it is safe to assume sokka sacrificed his own uhh. hope? naivetĆØ? innocence? for katara to keep hers and in order to protect her better ā€” after all katara is the last southern waterbender, their collective hero, and you canā€™t have a hero with no hope, you canā€™t have a dead hero. and also sokka is an eldest sibling, itā€™s instinctual.
now donā€™t get me wrong, sokka has a huge heart full of love and devotion and wonder. he is an inventor, an artist, a scientist. sokka is filled with ideas, but he is always waiting for the lowest blow, he is always waiting for a disaster to happen (and with a good reason!). sokka believes optimists are liars, he thinks destiny and fate is more or less bullshit, he has a pragmatic and careful approach to almost every situation heā€™s presented with and even though he has a clear sense of morality, he is willing to make certain sacrifices as are the demands of war ā€“ where zuko is willing to save zhao without hesitation, who tried to kill him multiple times and whom he had been fighting not one minute ago, for example.
sokka wants the world to be a better place, and at the same time he has little trouble turning away from people who arenā€™t in any immediate danger even if they are suffering because he has more pressing matters at hand (the painted lady), he obviously would want the avatar to come back and save them, but aang being a complete stranger signaling to a fire nation ship is most definitely a valid justification for sokka to banish him (the boy in the iceberg/the avatar returns i don't remember lol). among many many many other situations in which sokka is technically right, even if it doesnā€™t fit other charactersā€™ idealistic views or it doesnā€™t make for a good story, sokka is the realist they all need in order to survive.
also i admit ā€˜perfect for each otherā€™ can be kind of a stretch and i believe that it being because theyā€™re both grumpy is kinda reductive since that can also be the basis of mai and zukoā€™s relationship and we all know what i think of those two aksjaks (this is NOT mai slander. # mai deserves better 2k21). however i do think sokka and zuko fit together because they have different types of emotional constipation and they actively push each other to be more balanced in order to reach to the other. sokka wants to believe deep down, and the fact that he is in a story even if he doesnā€™t really believe it plays its cards sometimes which translates into the universeā€™s obsession with sokka, and zuko is destiny fan #1 so he can give sokka an overemotional speech once in a while that sokka will ruthlessly dismiss and dismantle verbally but that at the same time will warm his heart and help him loosen up on his scheduled cerebral to a default existence on the long-run; zuko needs grounding once in a while which he usually got from iroh or at the very least iroh made an attempt to get through him, and sokka is intellectually crude enough to give zuko a reality check while making himself understood and because of their shared wavelength he can do this without crushing all of zukoā€™s hopes and dreams in the process.
they are also two eldest siblings one with depression the other filled with rage and they are the only real ā€˜pessimistsā€™ in the gaang, so while yes, zuko will take action to solve problems he will also complain about it forever more and he can do that with sokka. together they can yell at god, complain about jocks, complain about prescriptivists, bond over their very niche taste in art that nobody ever understands, and absolutely tear apart everything that doesnā€™t fit their competence standard (itā€™s a very high fucking standard, those are two grumpy neurodivergent people) among many other grump-activities that seem to make them miserable but that actually serve both of them to validate their annoyed kind of love for the world and it makes both of them really happy :)

Castlevania Season 4: Iā€™m not mad, just disappointed
Season 4 is poorly written fanfiction, which is...better than a lot of things could be, I guess.
Spoilers below the cut.
Content warning: trauma, sexual assault, psychological manipulation
The Gods Have Had a Change of Heart
Or, ā€œSeason 3 Blocked and Ignoredā€
Season 3 felt like the fabric of the universe had been twisted just to inflict additional pain. Season 4 overcompensates in the other direction; trauma evaporates, and good things happen for no other reason than to make our favorite characters happy.
The Season 3 finale left two characters in particular totally devastated: Alucard and Hector. Alucard is violently betrayed in a horrifying sexual assault by the first two people heā€™s spoken to since Trevor and Sypha left. He ends up killing them in self-defense and puts their bodies on stakes outside the castle, alluding to his fatherā€™s habit of doing so and potentially hinting at a turn toward evil. Hector is seduced by Lenore and then enslaved using a magic ring.
Yet at the start of Season 4, itā€™s as if these things never happened. Alucard is troubled, but not totally devastated, certainly not evil. Taka and Sumi are referenced in exactly one conversation with new character, Greta, in which she says the rather tactless throwaway line, ā€œI had a boyfriend and girlfriend at the same time once. But they never tried to kill me.ā€ Hector is nominally imprisoned, but immediately seems highly agentic, perhaps even more so than before. He studies, lays traps, and makes secret plans with other people. Furthermore, his relationship with Lenore is completely transformed. From falling to his knees in abject horror and despair at being enslaved, he suddenly switches to light banter, in what is apparently a basically okay, mutually enjoyed romantic/sexual relationship. Manipulative, selfish Lenore is now a sympathetic character struggling to reconcile her own role and feelings with Carmillaā€™s plans.
The events of season 3 happened, remaining canon in the most basic, literal sense. But the emotional weight attached to them has disappeared into thin air.
Not gonna lie, I did breathe a sigh of relief when I saw that Alucard and Hector were okay. Iā€™m soft-hearted! I donā€™t like seeing characters I like suffer! I mean, conflict is important, and I can deal with (or even enjoy in a certain sense) seeing characters suffer if it makes sense and serves a narrative purpose. But as far as I can tell, the season 3 finale was nothing more than lurid, meaningless violence. I probably wouldnā€™t have continued watching the show if it devolved into nothing more than finding novel ways to torture the characters.
Still, it doesnā€™t feel quite right to pretend like nothing happened either. Or, really, not that nothing happened, but that those things didnā€™t matter, didnā€™t hurt, didnā€™t leave lasting scars. Thatā€™s...almost kind of worse.
But, I thought, I can sort of forgive this sudden shift in the stars, given that there may have been some sort of change in creative direction relating to Ellisā€™ decreased involvement with the show.* Plus, season 3 was insanity. Itā€™s not like it was full of great writing choices, so if we quietly ignore some of them, maybe thatā€™s for the best.
*I only later learned that Netflix actually chose to continue with Ellisā€™ season 4 scripts. It is not lost on me that maybe Ellis doesnā€™t know how to write about the lasting effects of traumatic sexual experiences or how power dynamics can make a sexual relationship problematic because he doesnā€™t understand that those things exist.
Characters Being Nobody and Nothing Happening
Pretty Pictures, Not Much Else
Unfortunately, the disconnect between seasons 3 and 4 isnā€™t the only problem with this season. Although I felt that season 4 was a bit less boring than season 3 (I particularly enjoyed some of the earlier episodes of season 4), it suffers from the same basic problems of Characters Being Nobody and Nothing Happening.
None of the characters experience any significant development, let alone any sort of coherent arc. Sypha has changed slightly, becoming more rough and jaded. I did really like the scene where she talks about becoming the kind of person who says ā€œshit.ā€ I think it really speaks to how entering into a relationship with someone means taking on aspects of their lifestyle, and how that can change you in ways that you canā€™t predict and therefore canā€™t exactly ā€œagreeā€ to. Sometimes those changes are good, sometimes theyā€™re bad, sometimes theyā€™re neutral, and sometimes itā€™s difficult to know. But you have to accept that youā€™re sacrificing some aspects of the person that you could have been if you chose to live completely independently, or with someone else.
Trevor really hasnā€™t changed since season 1 when he first decided to take up the mantle of hero again. Likewise with Alucard. Hector and Lenore change, as previously noted, but that change is sudden, jarring, and occurs completely off screen in between seasons 3 and 4. Carmilla dies as exactly as she lived: bitter, angry, and violent. Saint Germain just kind of...gets fucked over in a nonsensical subplot, which is its own whole can of worms.
We also get several new characters in season 4, none of whom have developed personalities or motives, nor do they develop any of those things over the course of the season: Greta, Zamfir, Varney, Ratko.
And nobody. Does. Anything.
Trevor and Sypha spend the entire season trying to explore and aid Targoviste, which comes to absolutely nothing. Theyā€™re unable to help anyone, Zamfir dies, and they end up just jumping through a magic portal to the actually relevant subplot in the finale. Carmilla literally does little more than draw maps until sheā€™s ultimately killed. Hector plays a minor role in Saint Germainā€™s extraction of Dracula from Hell; otherwise, he and Lenore basically just exchange banter. Saint Germain does sort of do some stuff? But itā€™s often unclear how heā€™s made his connections, who the people who are helping him are, or what exactly heā€™s doing in terms of his magic beyond ā€œwhatever it takes to get back to his lover.ā€
Sure, there are fight scenes, but they feel meaningless. Thereā€™s no context, no stakes. Thereā€™s also a LOT of dialogue, and it is. Not well written. Exposition is embarrassingly clumsy at times, and the philosophical musings are cliche at best, muddled and confusing at worst. Thereā€™s just not all that much going on.
That is, except for Isaac. But more on him in a second.
What Kind of Show Is This?
When the plot line adapted from Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse ended with season 2, the show struggled to establish a new identity.
Despite nominally dealing with themes like whether humanity is inherently good or evil and how to cope with wrongdoing and loss, seasons 1 and 2 ultimately boiled down to a pretty generic action-adventure/fantasy plot with found family/power of friendship elements. Main characters Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard donā€™t really wrestle with big philosophical questions or suffer any major defeats. They know that they have to take down Dracula for the good of the world, and they work together as a team to do it, with a little character development relating to their various backstories sprinkled in.
Then season 3 happened, and things got weird. The trio is broken up for what feels like a pretty trivial reasonā€”Alucard has to protect the castle and Belmont hold, I guess? And the result of that decision is that the dynamics for the three main characters are completely unbalanced.
Ellis openly admits that he basically went feral with the writing of season 3, and it shows. The messaging in seasons 1 and 2 was cliche, but consistent. The message of season 3? Anyoneā€™s guess.
Season 4 reversed the darkening of tone from season 3, but shares its inability to pick a story and tell it.
Isaac is the Main Character
Always has been.
While I canā€™t say that his character or arc are perfect, I can say that he actually has a character and an arc. He starts off motivated by his fierce loyalty to Dracula, then has to struggle to find his purpose once Dracula is gone. He goes from subservient to agentic. He goes from fully endorsing the genocide of humanity and not caring about his own life to seeing some worth in humans and genuinely wanting to live. He has an interesting moment that deepens our understanding of what night creatures are, while also serving as an exploration of the meaning of oneā€™s fundamental nature. Most importantly, these changes happen naturally over the course of the show. They never feel forced or out of the blue, and while I feel like even more could have been done with Isaacā€™s character, thereā€™s a lot to appreciate about what is there.
If thereā€™s any thread holding Castlevania as a single, coherent work together, itā€™s Isaac. Not only is his character the best executed and the most coherent over the course of the show, his character explores themes that are larger than himself and relevant to the show as a whole, like those mentioned earlier: misanthropy versus a belief in the value of humanity; the ability to go beyond oneā€™s ā€œnatureā€ or initial circumstances; and how to respond to being wronged or losing something important to you. Exploring the individual lives of characters is great, but really good writing usually requires going beyond that to reflect on broader questions and ideas. Isaac is the only character here that serves that larger purpose.
Sorry...I Just Donā€™t Buy It
The season 4 finale is crazy, although in a different way from season 3ā€²s.
Varney being Death makes no sense on several different levels. Iā€™m not going to spend a lot of time picking that particular plot twist apart, but I will talk about why I think it doesnā€™t work at the largest scale, and how I think season 4 might have been done better.
Last minute twists with zero foreshadowing are rarely a good idea, and this is no exception. Why introduce this ā€œDeathā€ entity at the last minute to be the most important battle of the season? The finale of the entire show, even? Besides the lack of logic or emotional buildup, this robs the show of the opportunity to make use of the antagonists that it already has. Since Dracula died, Carmilla has been the obvious choice for a new big bad. Why hasnā€™t she done more?
Season 4 feels crowded with characters and plot lines that amount to nothing. Why not bring some of these characters together? If Carmilla is the main antagonist, how come she never meets any of the protagonists (except Hector, who is a pretty minor player in this ecosystem) or even affects them in any way?
Season 4 feels like maybe it was trying to make something out of season 3 and the model that it presented, but it ultimately fails to do so. The writers throw the trio back together at the end anyway, so why not have them rejoin sooner and work together? Maybe Sypha and Trevorā€™s past experience with Saint Germain could have helped Alucard and Greta piece together what he was plotting sooner, rather than all four of them being completely blindsided by it in the penultimate episode. (Sypha and Trevor know that someone is trying to resurrect Dracula, but they fail to find out any actual detail about the plans, despite their supposed attempts.) Have characters actually do stuff, figure stuff out, advance the plot!
Likewise, maybe Carmilla becomes aware of Saint Germainā€™s scheming, sees it as a threat, and tries to take him down. Maybe she tries to get involved and somehow use alchemy or the Infinite Corridor to her own benefit. What does it look like when power-hungry Carmilla, who wants to rule the world, finds out thereā€™s an entire multiverse out there? That could easily set her up to be a foil to Saint Germain, causing him to realize that what heā€™s doing is wrong.
What actually ended up happening in the show feels disjointed and often empty. In particular, most of the events that happen in the last two episodes just donā€™t really work for me. I didnā€™t like Trevor suddenly sacrificing himself to this random, new, super powerful enemy, or how the gems and dagger that he found just happened to be the perfect weapon to kill this new enemy, or how he inexplicably returns from the dead.
This kind of thing is what I mean when I say that this season feels like fanfiction. Trevor comes back from the dead for no discernible reason other than that it would really suck if he died. Greta as a character seems to literally only exist to be Alucardā€™s girlfriend and support him so that he doesnā€™t have to continue to be alone and potentially turn evil. Alucardā€™s trauma from Taka and Sumi and Hectorā€™s trauma from Lenore are both conveniently erased. Even Dracula and Lisa are resurrected somehow and get their happy ending. And itā€™s like, I guess I prefer deus ex machina to the opposite (Does that have a name? When everything is going well but then something terrible happens for no reason other than to make things worse for the characters?), but theyā€™re both bad writing.
God. This isnā€™t even getting into what happened with the Council of Sisters. And I donā€™t even really like those characters, but that doesnā€™t mean I want to see their characters handled poorly.
Iā€™m not sorry that I watched until the end, but I canā€™t in good faith recommend the show as a whole. If youā€™ve yet to watch Castlevania, just stop at the end of season 2. While there are some shining moments in seasons 3 and 4 (4 more than 3), itā€™s just really not worth it.

so ive been thinking for a while now how bonkers it is that ochako has a floatation quirk and an almost identical hairstyle to inko midoriya, and now that we're closing in on deku mastering all 7 ofa quirks, I can't stop thinking that nana, a woman who has been textually compared to inko midoriya, ALSO had a floatation quirk. i wanna ramble about it a little bit:
inko's first introduction to the comic is her telling us that she can float small objects toward herself:
Tumblr media
she's an older generation, so her quirk isn't all that powerful compared to the kids' quirks. this is apparent when ochako comes into play and can float much larger objects, but with less control over their trajectory. i think we're not ever meant to compare the two characters' quirks, since ochako is more powerful, and can also float herself. even further, inko doesn't seem to suffer any consequences for using her floatation quirk, but since we are only shown her using it once, there's no way to know.
(i find inko to be such a strange character. she spends so much time crying and being deku's mom that we forget that she is her own person. she's married. she has a quirk. what's her job? how does she pay the bills? how did she meet her fire breathing husband? does she have parents of her own? we know so much more about everyone else's parents than we even know about the main character's mom! this feels so deliberate, even beyond the fact that we are all wondering if deku's dad is somehow ~a villain~. like I don't care about deku's dad! what's up with his fucking mom!!)
so now we're so focused on ochako's journey to mastering her quirk and learning how to float herself in addition to huge objects that we almost forget how similar to inko she started out: her hair, her face, her kindness, her strength.
Tumblr media
spoilers ahead:Ā
now, like 150 chapters later, we learn about nana shimura's quirk: float. deku knows what's coming, so he asks his friend ochako, who can float, for pointers on floating. this is excellent strategy, deku! good call! you don't know anyone else who can float themselves so you learn from ochako!
Tumblr media
meanwhile, absolutely NO MENTION of how 'hey, my mom can float stuff too! weird coincidence!' despite him remembering all might's comparison of nana to his mother.
Tumblr media
all of this leads me to have a few theories about the nature of afo & ofa, the relationship between ochako, nana, inko, and deku, and the major themes of legacy in bnha.
theory one: Gramps For All
there's a massive theme in bnha of grandchildren of importance. first, we learn that tomura shiguraki is the grandson of nana shimura, a pro hero, one of the three factions warring for a place in post-quirk society. then we learn Eri is an instance of this: she's the granddaughter of an equally influential player. The comatose boss of the yakuza, one of the three factions warring for a place in post-quirk society.
there's all kinds of legacies in bnha: shouto, the son of the number 1 hero, a direct victim of hero society. iida, the younger brother of a hero who was victimized by a villain hell-bent on changing hero society. hawks, the son of a serial killer, a victim who perpetuates the cycle of victimization in the name of upholding hero society. all these legacies, but we don't know anything about their extended families. what are endeavor's parents like? were iida's grandparents pro heroes too? does hawks really have no other family?
and where are deku's grandparents? did they ever watch him while his single mom was working?
my theory is that afo is not dad for one, but actually gramps for one. he had children, more than one, and they each had their own children. inko is one of them, and izuku is the resulting child.
deku, grandson of all for one, one of the three factions warring for a place in post-quirk society. eri, shiguraki, and deku, each representing the groups most affected by post-quirk society: yakuza, "villains," and "heroes."
theory two: ochako & deku are cousins
why the hell does ochako look so much like inko midoriya and NOT her parents?
(in the anime, they look a lot like her, but in the manga...)

gramps for one had children, more than one, and they each had their own children.
i think that ochako may be adopted, or one of her parents is, or perhaps even inko was, so ochako's connection to biological relations is distant or non existent. she may not even know. we've seen that horikoshi doesn't make character design mistakes, and he's gotta realize that every time he draws deku & ochako in the same scene that he's drawn the same face twice.
so either he's trying to throw us off, or he's making a grander statement about who they are. he's a fan of star wars- he's already done a reverse of "I am your father" with touya & endeavor, so I think it would be interesting if he's set up this ochako/deku thing as a fun homage to luke/leia, too. but they're cousins, not twins.

(that's just deku times two, babey!)
inko, unconnected to her family as she seems, may never know if she had siblings or half-siblings. ochako's parents may never have known about ochako's biological relations.
this is a much weaker theory, but i think quirk singularity theory can make some sense of it. we have the original float quirk user, nana shimura. I don't think she is related in any way to inko or ochako, but her quirk helps demonstrate the generational growth of power. she was a hero before all might, meaning she's an earlier generation and had an arguably weaker quirk. but since she was a hero, she honed her quirk so that it comes across as incredibly strong, however she seems to have only been able to float herself, not objects or people.
float quirk user number two, inko midoriya, who can float small objects toward herself. she's the next generation after nana, so her quirk is still kind of weak, and in fact looks incredibly weak compared to nana's and ochako's quirks. inko is a nobody, not a hero, just deku's mom. she had no reason to hone her quirk. who knows? maybe if she'd gone on to be a hero, she could float entire buildings if she wanted to.
float quirk user three, ochako uraraka. ochako can float objects AND herself. she's a hero and a strategist, and incredibly strong despite being 16. she can float pieces of buildings and people and herself all at once. she's a hero. she's powerful. she's thoughtful & kind, yet willful and strong. she's the ultimate culmination of the other floatation quirks as well as inko & nana's personalities. but since we were introduced to these three float quirks all out of order, it's difficult to see the exponential power growth that happens each successive generation.

I don't think that ochako's ever going to be a major player in the end of all for one, or even the plot overall, but i think the THEME of ochako being the ultimate floatation hero in the series is a major player in the final story. ochako REPRESENTS the singularity. the generation after ochako will be so strong, perhaps her descendants would be able to negate all gravity in the vicinity, maybe on the planet. who knows! even if ochako isn't related to deku, let's say dechako happens, they have babies. that's a lot of float quirk in one couple! their kids are gonna have no bones! no muscle development because they never have to fight gravity! ochako's existence represents such a huge, yet nearly invisible thematic element of bnha.
tldr: ochako looks exactly like inko and has a cumulative float quirk reminiscent of both inko & nana, and i suspect the parallels between the three is deliberate for some reason. i just think that's neat.
