His catchphrase is "feeling sassy?" Hes (allegedly) worked with every war criminal throughout history and been every serial killer. even the gay ones. He ate a baby. His animal motif is a rabbit. Hes kind of based off the donnie darko rabbit. He almost exclusively wears merchandise of the quentin tarantino movie death proof. One of his biggest kill scenes is (kind of?) a reference to reservoir dogs. he talks to his cats in a baby voice. He wears a white fedora that makes every video he wears it in feel dated by like 7 years. Hes 5'3. Hes from new jersey. He hacked a girls tumblr blog so he could post about how awesome he is. He added a laugh track over a video of him killing people. He named a chainsaw rex. He torments people by playing frank sinatra at them. His name comes from an animal collective song. His creator drew his "true form" as a wolf anthro. Theres a (semi)canon blog entry where he makes the speakers blare rob zombie before he enters a room, then holds a guy at gunpoint to describe what he did to to him while "making sure to leave in all the cool parts". He has radioactive blood. He tried for like five whole minutes to pick up a bottle of ketchup with a grabby hand.He can be reasonably compared to pretty much every major tumblr sexyman. His actor has gone on record saying heath ledgers joker inspired his acting choices. Sometimes his voice gets distorted and it makes him sound like bill ciphers first year on HRT. Hes basically like my artistic muse. For some fucking reason i associate the song cake by the ocean with him. I firmly believe that if everymanhybrid didn't require a masters degree in creepypasta autism to comprehend, he would've caused more teenage stabbings than the slenderman incident and more kin war tumblr scenarios than nagito komaeda.

you mentioned phoebe, now you have to dish on phoebe!! what's she doing?? what's she like as raz's roomie??

i think out of all of the campers, Phoebe seems the most set on becoming a Psychonaut. she's just as passionate about it as Raz himself, and i think when they move in together she's been working a couple months as a new agent. she'd been sharing an apartment with Quentin, but after taking a year or so to think about his options he decides the Psychonauts aren't for him and goes to study music at college. so they're both young adults who have just started out on what they always thought would be their dream job... and figuring out what that actually looks like, in practice.

i think Raz and Phoebe make really good foils, because in so many ways they're so similar! they're both very passionate and dedicated people, they're both longtime performers (Raz with his acrobatics, Phoebe with her music), and obviously they both really care about the work they're doing with the Psychonauts. and that makes it a lot of fun to highlight their differences, too!

for Phoebe, her music is about expressing herself, about taking her feelings and letting them out through performance. she doesn't make art for anyone except herself. but Raz can't get over the fact that whenever he performs, it's for a crowd, and he needs people to enjoy it - because growing up, if people didn't come to their shows, they didn't eat*. he can never really get over the idea that his art has to be for someone, that it has to be good to be worthwhile.

i think they both have very strong opinions on their work, too! Raz's specialty is psychotherapy, projecting himself into peoples' minds. i see Phoebe as much more into the talking therapy side of things! they have long arguments about appropriate boundaries with patients, and hands-on vs hands-off techniques, and about how this study showed sixty percent improvement in the first session with this technique (but that study cites that the long-term benefits are less in comparison, so actually-)

in my head, there's a bit of a teething period for the first week or so when Raz moves in, and after that they just click. sometimes too-similar personalities can be like oil and water, but i think they're on a mutually compatible wavelength. they're diving into deep conversations at 1am, because they each see enough of themselves in the other person (and are both unrepentant armchair psychoanalysts) to get into the really revealing stuff. they write and record a concept album together about having a tense relationship with your family growing up, Phoebe on drums and Raz on acoustic guitar and both of them sharing the vocals. it sucks! but it's cathartic for them both! Phoebe's still got a copy of it on cassette somewhere in the back of her collection

(* the Aquato family are poor, but in my head they were never seriously at risk of going hungry. however Donatella definitely catastrophised enough times about a show going wrong and the whole family having to eat watered-down gruel for the next month that it stuck in little Raz's mind, hahaha)

I'm also so mad at Garp. Like I knew I would be. He is that kind of character. He knows that on some level the marines are bad. That they are too corrupt. He, like Koby, thought he could be a force for good, and saw the evil that pirates were doing. But that's because the marines are a lot better at hiding their evil.

He walked into Impel Down, past the tortured screams, took the elevator down past Levels 1 - 4 where even Level 1 was enough to make Vice Admiral Momonga feel sick to his stomach at the treatment of the prisoners with light sentences.

Garp then goes to a chained up Ace, who presumably went through a lot of torture, who has done much less evil than Blackbeard – the man the marines just let into the warlord club – and laughs. He berates him and Luffy for not being Good Marines like he wanted them to be. And when Ace begs to be killed, Garp just tells him nothing can stop that now, knowing ace wants to be killed there - before whitebeard can risk himself to rescue him.

And of course Ace brings up their blood and their fathers as why he and Luffy turned out the way they did. But as we see, the real reason Ace is a pirate is because Whitebeard was the only one to act like a father to him. And that role that was supposed to be GARP'S job.

Garp's belief, even when facing all of this, is that the marines are still the lesser of two evils. Or perhaps he just doesn't believe another alternative is possible. And I guess until Luffy came about, it really wasn't.

So he'll tolerate the Celestial Dragons and turn a blind eye to slavery, though he won't let himself be promoted so he doesn't have to report to them (out of sight out of mind). He'll visit Luffy and the strawhats with Koby on a friendly visit and promise not to take them in, and then attack Luffy's new ship with firepower enough to kill some of them and certainly with the goal of capturing them and putting Luffy in Impel Down. And he'll visit Ace in prison before he dies, though do absolutely nothing to help the kid he swore an oath to take in, who he already failed.

The tragedy of Garp is that he tried to do the right thing at every turn, but unfortunately was wrong every time.
