hey chat why does every time a fandom assigns a character a hozier song it never really seems to fit the character in the context of the song like ever. please someone tell me. like it doesn’t hurt anyone really i’m just kind of a hater and a little pretentious and it’s always characters that i like and am very normal about.

Saying this as an Irish person since the new Hozier album just came out and there are lyrics in Irish; it’s Irish or Gaeilge (pronounced “gwhale-ga” or “gale-ga” depending on region), not Gaelic or Celtic or any other name people come up with.

It’s just a normal language that people speak in their everyday life. We learn it in school in the republic. People like myself are bilingual in Irish and English. It’s not a “fairy aesthetic cottage core leprechaun” language.

Please respect it. Our language is a touchy subject seen as how England tried to erase it by forcing English on us and severely punishing those who spoke Irish.

At the same time that does NOT mean it is a dead language. Our (in the republic) road and safety signs are in both Irish and English, same with legal documents. Our politicians speak it, and we are trying to preserve the language!

Oh how Hozier has written an album about the absolute worst humanity has to offer, all our sins and crimes laid bare, and he says you are forgiven with so much tenderness. This is what makes you human. This is what makes you complex in the most beautiful ways. Look at the tragedy around you, and look at the survivors. Aren’t you all just so beautiful in your efforts to strive forward and begin again.

abstract (psychopomp) by hozier is definitely one of my most favourite songs ever written, but I can’t listen to it without having a complete emotional meltdown. like. the rawness and the pure humanity in those lyrics. the love and the pain, the choiceless devotion to something fleeting, which you know won’t make it through the night, but to something you feel for, with, nonetheless. something you, as a Human, have no choice but to love.

it’s just simply a lyrical and emotional masterpiece and I’ve been extremely normal about it for more than a year now.
