I love when older characters actually refer to them as KIDS
BECAUSE THEY ARE KIDS AND IT'S NOT EMPHASIZED ENOUGH IN THE MAINLINE 👏

A Feline Connection Part 6
Tumblr media
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x fem!reader
Summary: Natasha is confronted by someone from your past and faces a new troubling situation that requires her to find you.
Masterlist Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10
Warnings: angst, violence, hurt/comfort, toxic relationship/emotional manipulation (not from Natasha)
Words: 4905
Natasha carefully rewraps the bandage around her bruised knuckles, her gaze drifting toward the night sky outside your apartment window.
The faint glow of distant city lights only emphasizes the darkness around her, leaving her alone in the dim room.
She flexes her hand experimentally, wincing at the ache, but the pain is almost welcomed—a distraction from the raw, defeated feeling inside her.
Her phone beeps in her pocket, and for a fleeting second, a hope flares within her.
Hope that it was you.
But when she pulls out her phone, the screen immediately dashes away that spark.
Her heart sinks slightly, but she still answers the call as she makes her way to the kitchen.
“Did you find anything?” Her voice still carries a thread of hope she can’t entirely hide.
There’s a pause before Tony’s voice comes through, his tone uncharacteristically serious.
“Sorry, Nat, the kid and I searched everywhere. There’s nothing left. The place has been stripped clean—completely abandoned. Same as last night.”
Natasha closes her eyes, inhaling deeply as she absorbs his words.
After being forced out, she had to regroup and call for backup. But by the time they returned to the site, it was as if the place had never been occupied.
No trace of guards, no equipment, and worst of all—no sign of you.
“How are you holding up?” Tony asks, his tone softer, catching the weight in her silence.
Natasha clenches her fists, testing the tightness of her grip. Her knuckles ache, a dull, persistent pain, but it barely scratches the surface of what she feels inside.
“I’m fine,” she replies, her voice steady but carrying a tired edge. “Just some bruises.”
Natasha sighs, her frustration and concern bleeding into her tone as she continues.
“That’s not what I’m worried about.”
Natasha glances toward the front door, where Widow sits, her little black form almost statue-like, staring intently at the door as if willing it to open.
Her tail swishes softly, but her gaze remains fixed, waiting.
“I’m going to stay here for now,” Natasha declares, her resolve solidifying. She reaches for a small bowl and fills it with water, setting it on the kitchen counter.
There’s a pause on the other end, then Tony’s voice, understanding and resigned.
“Alright. Take care of yourself, Romanoff. Call us if you need anything.”
“I will,” she murmurs, ending the call as she heads toward the cat by the door.
“Widow,” she calls softly with a gentleness reserved for only a few.
The cat’s ear twitches in acknowledgment, but she doesn’t turn, her entire focus still on the door.
Natasha watches her for a moment, a pang of sympathy tightening her chest.
She crouches down, setting the bowl beside her as she tries again to coax her.
“If you’re not going to eat, at least drink something,” she urges, hoping the cat will respond.
But Widow doesn’t move, her tiny body tense, her gaze unwavering as she guards the USB drive tucked protectively beneath her paw.
Natasha reaches a tentative hand toward her, but Widow’s yellow eyes narrow, and a low, warning warning sound escapes from her.
Sighing, Natasha withdraws her hand, understanding that the cat won’t easily surrender what you entrusted her.
She glances at the USB, reflecting on the mysterious mission you had given to the little animal, who seemed so intent on completing it.
The cat’s dedication and loyalty is admirable, but Natasha knows that this kind of behavior will only become more harmful to her the longer she waits.
Still, she hesitates, feeling the weight of what she needs to say.
Widow had held her stance for a full day now, refusing anything Natasha had offered.
And as much as Natasha respects her determination, she can’t let the little cat continue like this, clinging to a promise that may never be fulfilled.
Steeling herself, she leans closer, her voice soft but steady with reluctant honesty.
“She’s not coming, Widow,” Natasha murmurs, her tone carrying the painful truth.
The reaction is immediate.
Widow’s body stiffens and tenses, her eyes flashing with defiance as she finally meets Natasha’s gaze.
A small, angry growl escapes her as she clutches the USB tighter, then pointedly turns her back to Natasha, ignoring her completely.
Natasha sighs softly, feeling the sting of the cat’s rejection.
She leaves the bowl close by, in case Widow changes her mind, then moves wearily to the couch.
Lying down, she keeps her eyes on the cat, watching as the minutes drag into hours, the room settling into a quiet stillness.
Eventually, exhaustion overtakes her, and she drifts into a dreamless sleep.
It’s a soft nudge on her hand that wakes her.
Natasha blinks, momentarily disoriented, and glances down to find Widow on the couch beside her.
The cat's head is lowered as she lets out a sad, mournful meow.
With a gentle motion, she pushes the USB toward Natasha, nudging it forward with a paw, her posture dejected.
Ignoring the device, Natasha opens her arms in a silent invitation.
Widow hesitates, then pads into her embrace, curling up tightly against Natasha’s chest.
Natasha pulls her close, one hand resting gently on the small, trembling body, the other stroking her soft fur in an effort to soothe her.
Widow had offered her comfort in countless moments since she had met the small animal, so Natasha’s grip tightens protectively, offering what little comfort she can in return.
She can feel the cat’s sorrow in the small, heartbreaking whimpers that escape her.
The sad sounds eventually fade as Widow drifts into an uneasy sleep, her small body occasionally twitching, as if the dreams that find her are anything but restful.
A pang of sympathy tightens in her chest, understanding the feeling the cat must be going through.
After a moment, Natasha’s gaze on the sleeping cat is pulled away when her phone on the table lights up, vibrating softly with an incoming call.
Her heart skips a beat when she sees your name flash across the screen.
Moving carefully to avoid disturbing the little creature, Natasha grabs and answers the phone, pressing it to her ear with barely contained urgency.
“Hey, where are you? Are you okay?” she blurts out, her voice low but charged with concern.
Silence greets her, stretching unbearably long, and Natasha’s unease grows. She’s just about to call your name when a low, mocking chuckle crackles through the line.
“You know, she had you saved under an hourglass icon,” an unfamiliar voice drawls.
Natasha’s brows knit in confusion, a cold sensation settling over her as she realized this wasn’t you.
“Who is this?” she demands, her tone sharp and dangerous. “Why do you have her phone?”
The voice lets out a thoughtful hum as if savoring her reaction.
“Let’s talk,” the voice taunts. “One on one. Come to the address I sent you—if you really want to know.”
The line goes dead, leaving Natasha staring at the phone, a notification already lighting up the screen with a set of coordinates.
She exhales, steeling herself as her gaze drifts back to Widow, still curled beside her, her tiny body twitching restlessly in her sleep.
Determined, Natasha slips from the couch, pulling on her jacket as she glances back one last time.
The sight of Widow sleeping restlessly stirs her resolve.
This stumbling in the dark can’t go on—not for her and certainly not for the cat.
She leaves quietly, heading to confront whoever this mysterious stranger is.
The coordinates bring her to the entrance of an unmarked underground bar.
A brawny guard stands watch by the door, his gaze impassive but sharp. He sizes her up briefly, then steps aside without a word, opening the door and allowing her in.
The door closes behind her with a definitive slam, trapping her in the dim, smoky atmosphere of the room.
The bar is quiet, empty save for a single figure sitting casually at the counter, her back turned to her.
Natasha’s gaze sharpens, taking in the woman’s straight posture and the aura of confidence that radiates from her.
Jet-black hair cascades down her back, and a strange glint of metal catches Natasha’s attention—the unmistakable shimmer of a gold mask covering her upper face.
Natasha moves forward, her steps soundless as she approaches the counter. She sits two stools away, close enough to talk but keeping a cautious distance.
The woman remains silent, seemingly content with the space between them, focusing on the glass before her.
Another shot glass slides across the counter toward Natasha.
She catches it mid-slide but doesn’t raise it to her lips, choosing instead to study the stranger beside her.
The woman’s casual, almost indifferent demeanor betrays an underlying edge, a danger that Natasha can feel.
The woman lifts her own glass, taking a slow sip, before finally breaking the silence without so much a glance in Natasha’s direction.
“What’s wrong?” she murmurs, a smirk lacing her words. “Afraid I poisoned it?”
Natasha furrows her brows, coolly setting the glass back on the counter as her response.
The woman glances at her before shrugging and pouring herself another glass. The lightness in the air feels false, loaded with an unspoken tension.
Finally, Natasha breaks the silence.
“You already know who I am,” she says evenly. “So who are you?”
The woman turns, the gold mask covering her upper face catches the dim light, casting her in a half-shadow that only sharpens the piercing gray eyes staring back at her.
A smirk plays at her lips, and she leans in, resting her elbow on the counter with a relaxed yet predatory air.
“Straight to business. I respect that,” she says, chuckling softly as she swirls the liquid in her glass.
“My friends call me Whitney,” she continues, pausing to take a slow, deliberate sip before setting it down on the counter with a soft clink.
“My enemies? They know me as Madame Masque.”
Her voice drops as she tilts her head, gray eyes narrowing.
“So…which do you believe you are, Miss Black Widow?”
Natasha catches the faint edge in her words when she says her title, half-mocking with a hint of hostility that’s barely disguised.
It’s clear this woman has her own thoughts about who Natasha is.
“Seems you’ve already made that decision yourself,” Natasha says pointedly.
Whitney lets out a short chuckle as her fingers tap against the counter as if contemplating whether her statement is true or not.
Natasha’s gaze flicks down to the counter at her action before drifting to where a familiar device rests.
Your phone.
Whitney’s eyes follow Natasha’s line of sight, her hand reaching over to take the phone. She handles it with a casual, almost mocking nonchalance that makes Natasha’s blood simmer as she’s reminded of how she doesn’t know your whereabouts.
As if reading Natasha’s thoughts, Whitney’s lips curve into a taunting smile.
“Don’t worry, she’s safe,” she says smoothly, raising the phone and pointing it toward Natasha. Her eyes glint with dark amusement. “But tell me, how much do you really know about her to care?”
Natasha’s eyes narrow, her jaw clenching slightly as she meets Whitney’s gaze, holding back the irritation clawing at her composure.
“I know enough.”
Whitney’s laugh is soft, laced with an air of superiority.
“Enough?” she echoes, as if savoring the word, rolling it around in her mouth with condescension.
She brings the phone up to her lips, brushing them lightly on the edge as if placing a delicate kiss.
“That’s nothing compared to who I am to her,” she purrs, her gaze locked onto Natasha’s, a challenge in her expression.
Natasha frowns slightly at the implication, piecing together the hints of what sort of relationship you and this woman may have shared. Though, she doesn’t let the idea shake her composure.
“Funny,” Natasha counters, her tone ice-cold. “You say you’re so important, yet she’s never mentioned you. Not even once.”
The barb hits its mark.
Whitney’s smirk falters, just for a split second, before her expression hardens, her grip tightening on the phone.
Her gaze sharpens with a flash of anger, but she recovers, her voice dropping to a dangerous, low murmur.
“Careful,” she warns, her voice cutting through the air like a blade. “People have disappeared for less.”
Natasha meets her gaze head-on, the threat passing over her like a breeze.
The silence stretches between them, tense and unyielding.
Then, as if suddenly bored of the exchange, Whitney tosses the phone across the counter.
Natasha catches it effortlessly, not breaking eye contact.
“However,” Whitney says, standing up smoothly and tossing her hair back over her shoulder, “That is not the purpose of this meeting.”
Her posture shifts, deliberate and commanding, as she steps closer.
Whitney’s presence fills the space between them, a wall of cold authority. Her gaze bears down on Natasha, sharp and assessing.
“This is your only warning—a courtesy if you will,” she continues, her tone chilling in its calculated calm. “In recognition of the…friendship you shared with her during her time away from my side.”
Her words are laced with a venomous undertone, and her eyes narrow, each syllable cutting with a precision that makes her intentions painfully clear.
“Stay away from my business,” Whitney demands, her voice dropping into a steely edge. “And stay away from her.”
The threat hangs heavy in the air, but Natasha remains calm, her expression steadfast. Underneath, though, a flicker irritation stirs in her chest.
It’s not the words themselves that bother her—it’s the way Whitney carries herself, the way she exudes control, as if she owns you. That smug arrogance, that predatory assumption of power over someone else’s life, is something Natasha knows all too well.
She’s spent her entire early life under the thumb of people like Whitney, people who believed they had the right to decide her fate.
Natasha recognizes the pattern instantly, and the familiarity sets her teeth on edge.
“She can make her own choices,” Natasha counters, her tone calm but firm, a subtle steel threading through her words.
Whitney’s lips curl into a slow, knowing smile. There’s something predatory in the way her gaze lingers like she’s savoring an unseen advantage.
She arches a brow, her response almost mocking.
“Yes,” she says smoothly, “and tell me, whose bed did she choose to sleep in tonight?”
Even though Natasha sees through the obvious attempt to provoke her, her fingers still tighten instinctively around the sleek metal of the phone, the only outward sign of her restraint. Her jaw sets, the tension visible in the small but deliberate motion.
Whitney catches the reaction, and the satisfaction in her expression is unmistakable. Her smirk widens as though confirming a victory.
Without waiting for a response, she pivots on her heel and strides confidently toward the door, her heels clicking in the silence.
At the threshold, she pauses, glancing back over her shoulder. Her voice drops to a whisper, low and laced with a chilling sweetness.
“You should forget about her,” Whitney murmurs, her eyes gleaming with cruel satisfaction. “Or else…she’ll hurt you even more than she already has.”
The words twist in the air, lingering like smoke long after Whitney disappears into the night.
Natasha remains seated in the dimly lit bar, the emptiness pressing in around her.
As much as she tries to brush it off, Whitney’s parting shot reverberates in her mind, a shadow that clings to her thoughts, refusing to disappear.
~~~~~~~ ⧗ ~~~~~~~
It’s early morning by the time Natasha finally makes it back to your apartment. She slips in through the front door, her steps weary, her mind weighed down by the revelations of the night.
As she enters, her boot bumps into the bowl she’d left for Widow, the water still untouched and the food uneaten.
Natasha’s frown deepens as her concern shifts to the little cat.
The absence of any sound or movement from Widow sends a flicker of unease through her.
Moving quickly to the couch where she left her, Natasha feels her stomach twist as she sees Widow, lying in the same spot, seemingly untouched by the passing hours.
But as Natasha leans in closer, worry edges into panic. She notices how shallow the little cat’s breathing has become, her tiny body rising and falling with only the faintest of movements.
Natasha kneels beside the couch, reaching a hand to gently stroke Widow’s back, calling her name softly.
“Widow?” Her voice is tentative, hoping for any sign of life, any flicker of response.
But there’s nothing.
Widow doesn’t stir or twitch, only the faintest breaths giving away the fact that she’s even alive.
Panic surges in Natasha’s chest, and without hesitation, she carefully lifts Widow into her arms.
The cat remains limp, her tiny body almost weightless, as Natasha cradles her close, rushing toward the door and heading straight for the nearest emergency vet clinic.
In the waiting area, Natasha’s leg bounces with anxious energy, her fingers wringing together as she stares at the clinic doors.
Every time a nurse or doctor passes by, she looks up, her heart in her throat, hoping for news about Widow’s condition.
The minutes crawl by, and then hours, the feeling of helplessness pressing down on her with each passing second.
Finally, a voice calls out. “Ms. Romanoff?”
Natasha stands instantly, her gaze meeting the veterinarian’s.
The vet’s eyes widen for a moment, recognizing her.
“Oh, wow, it really is you,” the vet mutters, then clears her throat, refocusing and offering a small, sympathetic smile. “I’m sorry—I meant to say, your cat is stable now.”
“She’s not actually my…” Natasha begins to clarify, but then thinks better of it, shaking her head. “What was wrong with her?”
The vet gives her a curious look but remains professional as she continues.
“We gave her some fluids for the dehydration. Other than that, there doesn’t appear to be anything physically wrong. Her lack of movement was likely due to severe exhaustion and lack of energy.” She pauses and studies Natasha for a moment. “Has she shown any changes in eating habits recently? A loss of appetite?”
Natasha nods, the previous day playing back in her mind.
“She wouldn’t eat or drink anything yesterday,” she admits, her voice tinged with guilt.
The vet shakes her head.
“That’s not good for cats, especially one her size. Going without food or water for even a day can lead to complications—some of them severe—if it continues. Has there been anything recently that might have caused her stress? Emotional factors can have a significant impact on animals.”
Natasha exhales deeply, her chest tightening.
“I might have an idea,” she says, her voice quieter.
The vet nods, offering a small, reassuring smile.
“That’s good. Addressing the source of her stress is key. Cats are incredibly resilient, but the sooner she feels safe and secure again, the faster she’ll recover. She’s stable now, but we’ll keep monitoring her for the next few hours. After that, she’ll be ready to go home.”
“Okay,” Natasha murmurs, her voice tight with relief.
Sitting back down, Natasha releases a deep breath, a mixture of relief and lingering worry filling her chest.
The most likely reason for Widow’s condition would be your sudden absence and the overwhelming sense of abandonment the little cat must be feeling.
If Natasha wants to truly help her, she knows she’ll have to find you—and fast.
But that’s already a difficult task. She doesn’t even know where to start, especially now that she can no longer reach you.
She pulls out your phone, the screen lighting up with a photo of you and Widow, a rare moment captured in happier times.
A soft, sad smile tugs at her lips as she studies the image, but it quickly fades as determination takes over.
Natasha swipes through the phone, scrolling through messages, contacts, and any notes that might give her a lead.
As her focus sharpens, a small notification banner suddenly drops from the top of the screen—a reminder.
Natasha’s brow furrows as she reads it, her instincts and training automatically kicking in. Her eyes narrow as she considers the information.
It’s a long shot, but it’s her only lead.
~~~~~~~ ⧗ ~~~~~~~
Natasha remains hidden in the shadows, her eyes fixed on the building across the street. The crisp night air chills her skin, but she doesn’t waver.
Hours of waiting finally pay off as she spots a figure emerging from a rooftop window, their movements precise and practiced.
Natasha’s breath catches as she recognizes the silhouette.
You move with fluid grace, scaling down the side of the building as if you’ve done this a hundred times before. Blending seamlessly into the night, you pause briefly on the ground, scanning your surroundings.
Natasha watches and follows intently, her heartbeat quickening. She takes a steadying breath and steps out of the shadows.
“Hey, can we talk?” she calls, her voice low but firm.
You whip around, your body immediately tensing as your eyes meet hers.
Surprise flickers across your face for a split second, but it’s quickly replaced by a guarded, hardened expression.
Without a word, you turn on your heel and dart into a nearby alley.
“Damn it,” Natasha mutters, breaking into a sprint after you. Her boots hit the pavement in a steady rhythm, her heart pounding as she pushes herself to keep up.
She can’t lose you—not again.
“Wait!” she yells, her voice echoing through the narrow streets.
But you don’t stop.
You dart through the labyrinth of the city’s back alleys, vaulting over debris, slipping into tight corners, and using every trick in your arsenal to stay ahead.
Natasha grits her teeth, frustration mounting as the gap between you grows.
Just when it seems like you might disappear into the night again, Natasha yells, desperation seeping into her voice.
“It’s Widow! She’s sick!”
The words stop you dead in your tracks. You skid to a halt, spinning around to face her. Disbelief and fury war on your face as you close the distance in a blur of motion.
Before Natasha can react, you slam into her, knocking her off her feet. The impact sends her sprawling onto the pavement, the air forced from her lungs.
You’re on top of her in an instant, pinning her down with your weight. Your knees trap her legs, and your hands grip her wrists, holding her firmly against the cold ground.
“What did you do to her?” you demand, your voice low and intense. Your face hovers inches above hers, anger radiating from you. Your eyes bore into hers, alight with fury and something deeper—fear.
Natasha’s breath catches as she processes the sudden shift, but her calm never wavers.
“I didn’t—”
“I can’t believe you’d do something like this!” you snap, cutting her off. “Hurting her just to get to me!” Your voice rises with each word, the accusation stinging like venom, your emotions boiling over into your words.
Natasha struggles against your hold, her frustration mounting.
“Listen to me!” she bites back, her tone firm despite the compromising position. “I didn’t hurt her! She’s sick because she won’t eat or drink anything since you disappeared!”
Your grip falters slightly, confusion flickering across your face. Natasha seizes the moment, her voice softening but retaining its urgency.
“She thinks you abandoned her,” Natasha says before continuing, her tone quieter but no less resolute. “She misses you.”
Your fingers loosen their hold on her wrists, the anger in your eyes giving way to guilt and vulnerability.
Slowly, you push yourself back, but instead of moving off her entirely, you remain seated atop her, your posture easing into something less confrontational as the tension between you softens.
“I’m sorry,” you mutter, running a hand through your hair. The bitterness in your voice is evident as a hollow chuckle escapes your lips. “I don’t know what I was thinking. I forgot…you’re not the kind of person who would do something like that.”
Natasha props herself up on her elbows, her sharp gaze still studying you, though the edge in her eyes has softened.
“But Whitney is,” she says evenly, her words carrying a pointed weight.
Your eyes snap to hers, widening slightly.
“How do you know about her?” you ask, your tone shifting to one of shock and apprehension.
Natasha sighs at the memory of her encounter with Whitney, slightly regretting bringing the woman into the conversation.
She hesitates, but before she can answer, her gaze flickers to where you’re still straddling her, pinning her in place.
A faint smirk tugs at the corner of her lips, a spark of mischief breaking through the lingering tension.
“You know,” she drawls, her voice teasing as she tries to lighten the mood, “if you’re planning to keep me in this position much longer, at least buy me dinner first.”
The unexpected quip catches you off guard. For a moment, her words hang in the air before a soft laugh escapes you, easing the remaining tension.
Natasha feels her heart quicken at the sound and the shift in your expression, relieved to see the shadow of a smile on your face, even if it might be fleeting.
But then your smirk returns, playful and familiar, as you lean down slightly, closing the space between you, your face hovering just above hers.
“Does this affect you that much, Miss Black Widow?” you ask, your voice lowering as you draw out her title, teasing her the way you often do.
Natasha’s breath catches, her heart practically pounding now.
Unconsciously, she leans closer, her lips parting slightly. Her gaze flickers to your mouth, lingering for just a fraction of a second too long as she remembers the last time those lips had touched hers.
Something in her gaze must have surprised you as your eyes widen slightly, as if just noticing the intensity of how she looks at you and seeing the possible depth and truth of her feelings for you.
The realization shakes you, bringing you out of the moment. Blinking, you pull back quickly, the teasing edge in your expression vanishing as the weight of the realization sinks in.
“I’m sorry,” you murmur, your voice quieter now, though even you aren’t sure what you’re apologizing for—crossing a line, or simply acknowledging what you cannot reciprocate right now.
You lean back and plant your hands on the ground behind you to give her space.
Natasha blinks, as though snapping out of her own thoughts, and shifts slightly, reclaiming her composure as she remembers the boundaries you’ve placed between yourself and her.
Her expression flickers briefly, something unreadable passing over her face, before she clears her throat.
She sits up smoothly, brushing off her arms and legs as if the act might rid her of any lingering emotions.
“It’s okay,” she says quietly, her voice steady, though there’s a faint undercurrent of something unsaid, something painful.
You shift back further, leaning on your hands for support, as you exhale deeply, rubbing the back of your neck.
“How do you know about Whitney?” you ask again, this time quieter, more cautious.
“We talked,” Natasha says, her tone neutral but pointed. “She made it pretty clear how much she doesn’t like me meddling in her business…or with you.”
A shadow crosses your expression, and you let out a low sigh, your gaze flickering between her and the ground.
“She shouldn’t have done that,” you mutter.
Natasha tilts her head, studying you carefully as she wonders about your relationship with the woman. She pushes herself to her feet and steps closer, her gaze locking with yours as she reaches her hand out to you.
“Come back with me, please,” she says after a moment. “Widow needs you.”
You hesitate, the conflicting emotions playing out on your face, but Natasha holds your gaze, steady and unwavering.
Finally, your hand raises tentatively toward hers.
But before you can close the gap, a sharp kick slams into Natasha’s side, sending her stumbling back. She rolls to her feet smoothly, her sharp gaze snapping at her attacker.
“I thought I told you to keep your hands to yourself,” a voice warns coolly.
Natasha straightens, brushing herself off as she locks eyes with Whitney.
The woman strides forward with predatory grace, pulling you to your feet.
You avoid Natasha’s gaze as Whitney wraps her arms around you from behind, her chin resting possessively on your shoulder.
“She’s mine,” Whitney finishes, her tone dangerously low, laced with a chilling confidence.
Natasha’s lips press into a thin line, her green eyes narrowing.
“For someone so confident in that fact, you seem awfully insecure whenever I’m near,” she says, her words meant to provoke the woman.
Whitney’s expression hardens, her gray eyes flashing with anger. She makes a move toward Natasha, but you turn in her arms, placing a firm hand on her shoulder to stop her.
Your other hand gently tilts her face toward yours, redirecting her attention.
“You promised you wouldn’t,” you whisper, your tone calm but firm. You lean in, pressing your forehead lightly against hers, as if grounding her.
Natasha’s chest tightens at the sight, an unfamiliar sting of pain settling in her heart. Her hands clench at her sides as she watches the exchange, feeling both helpless and infuriated.
Whitney holds your gaze for a long moment. Finally, she sighs, her lips curving into a slight smirk as her eyes flick toward Natasha. She seems to notice Natasha’s clenched fists, her smirk deepening.
“See?” Whitney says lightly, her voice dripping with satisfaction. “I told you she’d only hurt you.”
Your eyes flash with a pained expression at her words. Still, you refuse to meet Natasha’s gaze.
With that, Whitney pulls you closer, turning to lead you away, leaving Natasha standing in the shadows.

You don’t remember the last time you felt this at peace.
It is like a buzzing, filling your chest, lifting you practically off your feet as you make my way home.
This feeling is manufactured- it is not coming from the outside. It comes from deep inside your chest, thrumming happily, snuggled between your lungs, right below your heart. There are reasons for this warmth, this light- well, one reason. Her name is Jinx.
When you say you’re going home, all you really think of is her. Yes, her lair is home- it is warm, and cozy, and as safe as a hot air balloon suspended above what seems to be an infinite void can be- but without her, it would be nothing.
She is the light that fills your chest, with her bright smile and ridiculously long blue hair and perfect pink eyes. She is the weight on your lungs, making it hard to breathe when you think of her. She’s all the cheesy, corny shit the romance authors you hated so as a child wrote. Only instead of being a character, only words on a worn out page, she’s real, and she’s only a two minute walk away from where you are now.
You have a satchel slung over your shoulder, the Dog (you don’t know when it became your dog; it just appeared by your side one day, and hasn’t left since) trotting along beside you. Its fur is matted. You reach down and scratch between its ears as you near the Last Drop, smiling to yourself. Never had you thought you would be living this life- on your way home, supplies for Jinx in your bag, the Dog padding alongside you- it is so domestic, so soft, so clean (despite the grime of the Fissures, the thickness of the air, the moaning of the people crowding the sides of the streets). This life is so unlike anything you remember your parents having.
You take the quick route into Jinx’s lair, the dog following happily, its pink tongue lolling. You should name it, you think as you step onto one of the propellers.
After Silco had died, you had expected the place to fall into disrepair; you had thought the lights would stop twinkling, and the tinny music would stop playing, and the workstations would gather dust until finally the propellers snapped and fell, taking Jinx with them. And yes, that had started to happen. But then, Jinx had met the kid. Isha, you had called her. All of you, huddled around an old, matted baby names book one of you had found at a scrapyard, pointing out names to each other. Isha, the kid had pointed at, a huge, toothy grin splitting her round face. One who protects. You had closed the book then, knowing that it was perfect. Jinx had smiled at you over the newly baptized Isha’s head, and you had smiled right back, squeezing her hand in yours. You had tossed the book down, into the void below.
Now, your home was transformed. Jinx’s creepy dolls were gone, replaced with different colourful toys and gadgets picked out or made by Isha. The walls were covered in crayon drawings of all kinds of things- dragons, flowers, the three of you in fields of green and blue and pink and orange. There was a tent set up in the corner, full of Isha’s belongings. It was where you all slept, huddled together like a litter of cats. You love the place.
At first, you think they’re both out. You call out, and when no answer comes, you venture further in, dropping your bag by Jinx’s workbench. The Dog sniffs around, its tail wagging as it comes closer and closer to an odd lump covered in blankets. You grin to yourself, putting a hand on your hip, tapping your chin with the knuckles of the other. “Hmm,” you muse to yourself, purposefully ignoring the giggle coming from the blankets, “wowie, I wonder where Isha and Jinx could possibly be.” You go in the opposite direction, checking under the workbench, scratching your head. The Dog watches, its eyes saying Can’t you see them? They’re right here! You wink at it, and it sits, tilting its head. “They must have gone out,” you declare loudly as the giggles intensify. “Guess I have this whole place to myself! Finally, I am rid of those stinky-“
As you are talking, you approach the mess of blankets. Before you are able to finish that last sentence, a small orange and blue bundle barrels into your legs, almost knocking you flat on your back. Isha launches herself into your arms, grinning her toothy grin as you spin her around.
“Oh my goodness!” You cry, “where were you hiding? You really are a master sleuth!” Jinx, still have tangled in the blankets, barks a laugh. You hug Isha to your chest and raise an eyebrow at her, mouthing you couldn’t hide anywhere better? She flips you off, but she is smiling.
She stands and joins you and Isha, her hand finding the small of your back, the other going to Isha’s shoulder.
“I have a surprise,” you whisper to the child, “but don’t tell Jinx, mmkay?”
Jinx tilts her head, still smiling. Isha nods solemnly.
“I found waffles,” you breathe, looking at Jinx out of the corner of your eye. Isha gasps and puts her hands over her mouth. Through trial and error, you and Jinx had discovered that the little one seemed to live for waffles. You now went out of your way, as the only one with your face not plastered all over the place, to find the sweet treat.
“Gee, I wonder what the surprise could be,” Jinx says, playing along. She follows as you carry Isha to your bag. You set the kid down, the Dog nuzzling into her hand. You rifle around for a moment, and finally pull out the waffles. Jinx lets out a loud gasp, and Isha turns to her, delighted, pleased with herself that she was able to keep this secret.
“Waffles?” Jinx cries. Isha claps her hands together, startling the Dog.
You all sit together in the tent, sharing the waffles off the same plate. Isha (who thinks she’s being slick) keeps sneaking pieces of her food to the Dog, who delightedly licks it off her hand. She giggles every time, earning an affectionate look from you and Jinx.
Once you have finished the waffles, you push the plate away and lie down. Soon, Isha curls into a ball in the space between your knees and your stomach, settling her head on your legs. Jinx dims the lights, then joins you; the two of you become a protective cocoon around the now snoring Isha. The Dog squishes itself in between you and Isha, resting its head on the kid’s side and looking up at you adoringly. You brush a strand of hair from Jinx’s face and smile. She smiles right back. She’s been smiling so much recently.
“This is perfect,” you whisper to her once you’re sure Isha is fast asleep.
She smiles, but doesn’t answer. One of her hands rests on your waist, and her fingers trace soothing patterns there.
“I thought,” she begins, then stops, frowning. Her other fingers tighten around your hand. “I thought that, with Silco gone, there was nothing left for me.” Her words hurt you; it stings somewhere deep in your stomach to hear that she is in any kind of pain.
“But then… I met the kid,” she continues. “And then I found you.”
You feel an overwhelming wave of affection for the girl lying in front of you then. A girl you had once known what feels like a very long time ago; a girl who had once had blue eyes and the same wide, toothy smile as Isha. A girl who had been part of your distant past, who was now back in your life. She was right; despite having known each other your whole lives, you have really only just found each other.
“And- and I realised that maybe, maybe Silco wasn’t all I needed. Maybe…” she trails off, but she has said enough. You shuffle forwards (careful not to disturb Isha or the dog) so that your forehead is only centimetres from hers. She meets you halfway, pressing her forehead to yours; your noses brush, and you smile, reaching up to cup her face.
“I love you, Blue,” you whisper. A name, who she has always been to you. Blue. Blue like the sky, like the sea. Blue like the warm, the fluttering bird nestled in your chest.
For a moment, you think she is going to cry. But she only pulls you closer, and whispers the same words back to you, your name uttered like a prayer.
You close your eyes and smile, and her breathing slows.
As you fall asleep, you think:
You have never felt this at peace before.

Headcanon #305
((This is based around Sonic Dream Team, but you don’t have to know the plot to understand it. I just had to do something with this:
Tumblr media
Non-shippers say he only checked on her first because she was closest. I’m more interested that the animators just so happened to make him land closest to Amy for the excuse. They could’ve put him next to anyone--his bff, the main character, the kids--but they conspicuously set him up to check on her 👀))
--
After receiving a distress call from Rouge that was cut ominously short, Shadow followed the signal to one of Eggman’s bases. He teleported into the room and found Amy, Rouge, Knuckles, Sonic, Tails, and Eggman all passed out on the floor. Feeling oddly protective of Amy as usual, Shadow instantly made a beeline for her. Just as he was checking on her, he got sucked into a dream world along with everyone else.
He awoke first, only to choke when he found Amy had rolled closer to him in her sleep and was now cuddling happily in his arms, face buried in his chest fur. He turned scarlet and wiggled out of her comforting embrace, teleporting away before she could wake up.
Amy’s eyes fluttered open moments later, but she didn’t stand up right away. She felt strangely warm despite the cold tile floor, and she could smell a hint of something...nice. Reassuring. Familiar.
Cream ran up to her for a hug before Amy could analyze it too much. The last she thought of it was wishing she could always wake up feeling so well-rested.

His little Fawn’s
Alastor x Wife! Reader
Synopsis: You yourself is a doe and gave birth to twins with another or more baby’s on the way
Tumblr media
You were laying in both yours and Alastors bed both in undergarments as you wrapped yourself around your husband. Luckily after your free time he bathed you with roses and scented french vanilla so you wouldn’t feel dirty once awoken.
You noticed him slowly awakening “Good morning beloved, how did you sleep?” You ask cheerfully as you touch his ears stroking one of them making him let out a soft sigh before nuzzling into your neck where bite marks and hickeys were everywhere on you.
He slowly rubbed your stomach as the now showing the baby bump, “I slept wonderfully My dear, how about you-” That’s when you both hear tiny footsteps slamming your door open.
“Mama!!!” Your three year old son exclaimed jumping on the bed to hug you but before he could Alastor held him before your son could do any harm to you or the baby. “Now Now Aydin we wouldn’t want to hurt your mother or your siblings” Alastor scolded with a smile making Aydin pout before making grabby arms at you as he was close to tears
“Aww my sweet baby” You cooed at your son as you gently took him away from Alastor before cuddling him and rocking back n forth.
“Papa, Mama?” Your daughter called out as she rubbed her eyes tiredly, Alastor smiled at her before picking her up as she laid her head on his shoulder still wanting to sleep
“Hello my little fawn, how did you sleep?” Alastor asked his daughter as she yawned.
“It was good papa!” She said cheerfully before glancing at you holding Aydin as he drifts to sleep. “How did you sleep mama?” you daughter asked as she was settled next to you so Alastor can go make breakfast for you and the babies.
“I slept good my little Aurora” You answered her before kissing her cheek.
Both your babies cuddled against you can see they have his hair type but your eyes and white freckles but also his sharp teeth. They also still have ears and a tail of course, They don’t have their uncontrollable smile yet but you could tell it’s coming soon.
And Soon they will have their own powers to control.
“Here you are my doe” Alastor said placing a tray with Pancakes and Jasmine tea, You thanked him with a kiss on his lips before he woke up the kids to go eat breakfast.
You both watched them as they rushed to go eat as you chuckled, “What seems to be funny my dear?” Alastor asked smirking at you.
“They really are your Fawns, You three are just so similar in different ways but get bored easily and cause mischief” You explained as he smiled at you softly before taking your hand then kissing each of your knuckles.
“thank you for gifting me with this and our fawns My Doe” He said genuinely as he finally kiss your lips slowly.
“Of course My love, I love you to hell and back and Any day these fawns will be part of this lovely family” You spoke gently as he smiles in excitement.
“Yes and i’m sure Aurora and Aydin would be great brothers and sisters to their new siblings” Alastor added as kissed you baby bump.
Oh he just couldn’t wait till this family is expanded

I’m tweaking out a little. I went with friends to see the Sonic 3 movie on release day. Was really good ofc. Went to see it a second time the other day with my best friend. Sorta fixating on movie Sonic content. Might even watch the Knuckles show (y’know despite the unnecessary amount of Wade I’ve been hearing about) because he’s my favorite version of Knuckles in the Sonic franchise.
But that’s not what I’m here to yap about.
What I wanna know is why aren’t more people hopping on the Knuxadow ship train? Like???
I’m usually not a big shipper of Knuckles and Shadow, more of Sonadow girlie. But in the movie universe?? Please people imma need y’all to start dropping fanart and fanfics of them before I start having to make it myself.
LIKE THINK ABOUT IT.
(Spoiler Warnings btw)
- Both watch the same soap opera, La Ultima Passion I think it’s called (Knuckles is watching it in an episode of the Knuckles series I think and Shads is getting into it in the movie while hangin with Stone in the Crab). I could totally imagine them watching it together and arguing over the plot lines.
- Both ride motorcycles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- You can’t tell me Knuckles ain’t the type to fall head over heels for someone who can EASILY kick his ass. “What a woman😳” type vibes but it’s after Shadow rocks his shit.
- IMAGINE Sonic and Tails. Cuz Knuckles is their big brother. Can y’all just imagine them lowkey bullying him? The whole immature nine miles? Making barfing noises if they catch Knuckles and Shadow flirting (in their own way), making very obnoxious kissing noises when Knuckles is gushing about how powerful and strong of a warrior Shadow is. THEY WOULD.
- Also Shadow, not being experienced with romance feelings or a crush, would have no IDEA what he’s feeling. I think his “OH” moment would be while watching other people interact. Be it in a movie/show, seeing Sonic and Amy interact, or Tom and Maddie. A whole “So this is love?” vibe.
- Someone theorized that in the hypothetical Knuckles & Shadow series that Keanu and Edris had talked about, they would be working together to locate all the Chaos Emeralds after they got lost at the end of the movie. CUE TWO SUPER POWERED ALIEN DUDES GOING ON A ROAD TRIP TOGETHER. And I think THAT is when they would become friends and start to form feelings for each other. Chat does this count as forced proximity?
- And we mustn’t forget Tom and Maddie. Tom doing the typical “I don’t want this dude dating my kid” routine (in his case tho it’s fair. Shadow did try to destroy earth and almost killed him) and Maddie would be supportive and I KNOW she would pull out the “leave the door open” line. Iykyk hehehehehe. They would both be really supportive of Knuckles having a crush and I feel like Shadow would try his best to be kind to them for Knuckles. He would be awkward.
- It’s also worth noting that if the whole Black Arms thing does happen in the cinematic universe and it ends like in the Shadow game with Shadow basically killing all of them, Knuckles and Shadow would BOTH be living the “I’m the last of my kind” lives. Not to mention both of their species have MESSY histories. Like we know the Echidnas were not perfect, otherwise they wouldn’t have been at war for so long. And we KNOW that the Dark Arms are all lunatics. Boyfriends can bond over their family drama.
THATS ALL. For now. 👹
And I know we probably gonna get Rouge in the franchise at some point and Knuxouge will be canon I’m sure but like… can a dude dream? And ask for more people to share this dream?

February 25- 26 2024
Of course Road Trip has a Picket Fence Moment (tm).
I'm not completely sure yet when this happens, but Knuckles is at least a part of the group now.
For a while, Sonic was in denial that he's raising a kid. He did everything a dad does, he just was to scared to admit it. Tails didn't even know what a dad was until Amy told him about Father's Day.
I'm not sure what the incident was that made Sonic think he needed to send Tails to an actual home. I don't actually have too many things planned out for the au, just bullet points of 'this must happen at some point'.
But yeah, this is the point where Tails starts calling Sonic 'Dad' (or 'Mom') instead, not a lot changes. (well aside from Sonic finally admitting that he's taking care of a kid and stops worrying about Tails not having a 'home')

Maddie almost fully leaped out of her spot on the bed her and her husband shared as she suddenly awoke, her eyes darting around the room before taking a deep breath, relaxing herself.
She didn’t need to use the bathroom…
And she made sure all of the kids (+ Ozzie) were in their beds…
So why did she feel so…uneasy?
Tom broke through his sleep at the sudden movement from his wife, holding her hand as he rubbed it with his thumb gently, “Everything okay, love?” He mumbled out groggily.
Maddie couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle at her husband’s sleepy voice, giving his hand a quick kiss as she got up from the bed, “I’m fine, babe. I just…I-I just…” She trailed off.
The cop yawned, raising a brow, “Having those random feelings of uneasiness again?”
The woman in purple pajamas nodded.
“Gonna go check up on our kids?”
She nodded once more.
“M'kay…” The famous Donut Lord yawned, drifting back to sleep, “Just call me if you need anything…” He mumbled as he closed his eyes and snored like no tomorrow.
Maddie rolled her eyes fondly, putting on her fluffy purple robe that was hoisted on a clothing hanger as put on her house slippers, going upstairs to the attic.
The nurse quietly made her way to the attic, her heart racing with a sort of…adrenaline as she made her way to the beds…
…Although, she didn’t know why.
First, she made her way to Tails' bed, who, was soundly sleeping peacefully underneath his blankets. Maddie kissed his forehead, adjusting his noise canceling headphones on his ears as she further tucked him in as she made her way to Sonic…
And ohhhhhh, Sonic…
The kid was basically sprawled along his bed like a used up rag-doll…
…Which, Maddie didn’t know whether to mark it off as concerning or impressive.
Maybe both.
The adult wrapped the blue hedgehog in his favorite blanket, kissing his forehead and subtly giggling as she saw him smile in his sleep at the kiss.
Lastly, she made her Knuckles' bed…
…That was missing, well…Knuckles.
The woman took a deep breath, taking her phone out of her robe pocket as she tried to calm herself.
He was going to absolutely GET IT if he went out 'adventuring' again.
Maddie could not handle another week asking random people in Green Hills of the red echidna’s whereabout’s…
…Her heart just could not take that amount of stress anymore!
And if Wade was even the SLIGHTEST bit responsible he was going to GET IT too.
The brown eyed human made her way downstairs, relief washing over her as she saw the back quills of a familiar red fellow sitting at the bottom of the stairs that led to the kitchen.
“…Knuckles?” She quietly said.
The echidna swiftly turned around at the woman’s words, his pupils sharpening before softening upon realizing who was behind him.
As he met her concerned yet loving gaze, he looked away, focusing on the wooden floor as if it was the most interesting thing as of right now.
Well…at least it was just Madeline.
Or 'Pretzel Woman' as the red themed teenager liked to call her.
It honestly could have been way worse…
…The blue themed hedgehog could have awoken instead of Maddie…
…And that would have been a whole other problem Knuckles did not have the time or patience for.
The teenager forced himself to relax slightly, his shoulders still tense in case of anything or…anyonedeciding to…surprise him.
Because he was an echidna warrior! He simply just did not get sneaked up on.
“Pretzel Woman.” He hummed, “I would not have expected you to be awake at such hours…”
“I wish I could say the same for you, sweetheart…” The 'Pretzel Woman' in question chuckled lightly, coming down and sitting on the stair the small teen was stifly sitting on, “What are you doing up, love?”
“I am keeping watch.” Knuckles stated simply, his seating spot remaining on the steps but his eyes darting in every which way around the house, seeming to look for a nonexistent threat.
Or grapes. Those he will always look out for.
“Did…I wake you?” His violet eyes morphing into one of guilt, “I am sorry if that is the case…I tried to be as silent as possible whilst scouting this evening.”
“No no! Not at all.” Maddie quickly assured, “I-I just…had a certain…feeling to get up, y'know?”
But Knuckles did not know, only quietly nodding his head as he tried to make sense of what the chocolate eyed human was stating, “…I see.” He hummed once more, now looking up as he peered on the outside door, his eye ridges creasing together.
Maddie fiddled with her fingers anxiously, not appreciating the sudden silence as she tried to collect her thoughts to think of what to say next.
Because, truth be told…Knuckles has been doing this…'guarding' business ever since he came to live in Green Hills.
And it was somewhat nice the first week…
A tad bit jarring the second week…
But now it was the third week.
And Maddie cannot recall one time she has seen Knuckles shut his eyes for more than a second.
“You are distressed.” The short teenager concluded bluntly, observing Maddie’s facial expression and body language, “Are you perhaps…cold?”
The woman let a small smile strech to her features at that, “I’m not cold, sweetheart. But thank you for your concern.” She said gently, resting her hand on the teenager’s shoulder but drawing it back as the teeanger in question stifened further at the sudden contact.
“But…I am worried.” The purple cladded woman stated, well…worriedly as she put her hands on her lap.
The fifteen year old’s eye ridges knitted together in slight confusion, letting out a small: “Oh.”
He looked up at her, “Why is that?”
The nurse started, “You’ve been staying up—”
“Scouting.” Knuckles politely corrected.
“—scouting…” She corrected herself, “…for three weeks straight, Knux. Aren’t you tired?”
“No.” The violet eyed teen uttered, “An echidna warrior is only tired when they need be. Which, I am not.” He stated, ironically burying back a small yawn that was bubbling in his throat.
Which, did not go unnoticed by Maddie.
“Everyone gets tired eventually…” The human said, “It’s not healthy to just…skip sleep, hun. It’s not good for you.”
“Only I know what is good and what is not good for me, Pretzel Woman.” The red echidna huffed, completely brushing off the other’s concern, “I will sleep when my duty is done.”
“Your…'duty?'” Maddie repeated.
Knuckles nodded, putting his right fist on his chest as he spoke, “I have promised you, the Lord of the Donuts, the loud hedgehog and the anxious fox to guard the Master Emerald, yes?”
“Well, yes, but—”
“And I have also promised to protect you all.” He announced proudly and matter-of-factly, “A protector never rests.”
“Hun…I think we’ve proven we’re more than capable at protecting ourselves.” The human lightly joked as she almost immediately regretted her statement and tone as she saw the teen’s expression shift from proud to…distress.
And there it is...
…You have such a wonderful way of words, Madeline…
…SUCH a wonderful way with words…
A flash of hurt made their way through Knuckles' eyes, though, he tried to hide it as we looked away, glaring at the floor slightly he hugged himself, which made the human feel even more guilty, “…I…I am aware of that fact.”
And immediately the adult started to backtrack at the teenager’s now almost distraught and downtrodden expression, “I-It’s not that we don’t appreciate it— appreciate you, love. I just don’t want you collapsing randomly one day because you’re staying up every single night keeping watch of us and the house.”
“I do not collapse.” The kid said in an almost defensive-like tone, “And when I eventually will, I would gladly do so knowing I have protected you all to the fullest.”
And right then and there Maddie could have sworn she felt her heart stop at that, feeling the smallest twinge of lightheadedness as she curled her fingers, forming fists on her lap.
“No!” The human shouted, lowering her voice as she realized she yelled a tad bit too loudly, making Knuckles flinch slightly at the sudden exclamation, “No no no! Knuckles, where is this coming from?!”
The nurse pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to stay calm but found it really difficult due to the fact one of her kids openly stated he would be fine literally DYING if it meant he would fulfill his 'duty', “I don’t want you staying up guarding, scouting— whatever you call it! I just don’t want you doing any of those things!”
The echidna’s face morphed to a frown, “But—“
“No, Knux…” Maddie said, her tone leaving no room for argument…
…The 'Mother voice' if you will…
“This is the last time you’re doing something like this. End of story.” The purple cladded human said, crossing her arms across her chest.
And then again, there was…a small silence that fell between the two.
A silence neither of them liked at all.
But the air was too thick with…all of a sudden tension that they both stayed quiet, in fear they would say the wrong thing…
…Again.
But eventually, the red echidna couldn’t take the silence; couldn’t take the tension any longer.
He looked at the figure in front of him once more, fixing his composure to appear more confident…but ultimately just appearing to be straight up panic-stricken.
“Then what can I do…?” He mumbled out meekly.
Maddie’s hands dropped to her sides, her eyebrows creasing together, “…What…do you mean?”
“To…To repay you all.” The violet eyed teenager further explained, mentally punching himself for sounding so completely and utterly…weak, “To make up for what I’ve done previously. T-To…guarntee my stay in the Wachowski clan.”
And those words alone spoke measures.
The nurse’s heart might of well dropped all the way to the floor, because all of a sudden she felt like she could not breathe.
She puts Knuckles' hand in hers, even though the echidna’s hand was obviously and ultimately TWICE her hand size…she didn’t care.
For crying out loud this was her son.
And she would never ever forgive herself if after this he would continue to think otherwise.
Then…
…Everything clicked.
“…Sweetheart…did you…d-did you think we were going to…kick you out…?” She asked as if she already knew the answer, afraid of what the other would say.
The short teenager picked up quickly that Maddie somehow knew now, guilt almost immediately hitting him like a train as he hugged himself with his free hand, looking down at his lap, “Yes.” He admitted, hugging himself more as he saw the other start to become teary eyed, “Before coming here to the Wachowski residance…I was responsible for so many casualties…” He muttered, “…I still am.”
The teenager’s tail droops, bringing his fist to his face to try and hide his also now tearing up expression, “I helped Robotnik seize control of your town and almost the entire planet…”
“…I-If I had just listened to Sonic…your house would not still be under repair. You and the Lord of Donuts would not have to call that 'Uber' you always speak of every morning to simply go to your designated jobs!” He yelled, not really caring if anyone else besides Maddie heard him at this point.
“Growing up, my Father always told me to never put my hands on someone else unless they did so to me first…” He murmured, a hint of fondness in his tone speaking of his as of late Father.
“I broke that promise when I met Sonic.” He mumbled out, ignoring the feelings of his eyes starting to become more wet, “But…B-But above all else…all my Father wanted for me was for me to be a good person…”
Knuckles let out a small sob, harshly wiping his face as his shoulder hung low…
…Out of hatred or frustration…?
Maybe a little bit of both…?
Maddie wasn’t sure.
“A-And I promised him. I swore on my life I would live by those two promises…” The small echidna hiccuped, yanking his arm away from the human as he gripped his arm with one hand until he couldn’t feel it anymore, “A-And I f-failed those two simple oaths b-by j-j-just acting so f-foolish…”
The taller figure watched the other shake with sobs, swiftly scooting closer to him as she gently held his wrists to stop him from further hurting himself.
“Oh, sweetheart…” She mumbled, her heart heavy as she saw the teenager duck his head further, “Hey…hey…” Maddie whispered, cupping the echidna’s face in her palms.
And to be completely honest? Knuckles wanted to hurt himself further as he did nothing but melt to the small but impactful form of affection…
“Can you look at me?” The nurse carefully asked.
Knuckles quietly looked at her, his face scrunched up to try and attempt to stop the tears freely flowing down his cheeks like a waterfall.
Maddie sighed sadly, wiping his tears with her thumb as she gently rubbed his cheeks, “I need you to listen to me, okay?”
He shakily nodded.
“You are a good person.” She emphasized sternly, “One mistake that you made doesn’t automatically define your worth.”
“This…” She said, gesturing to herself and Knuckles. “…is not a transaction. We are giving you a room to sleep in because we love you. We are giving you clothes to wear because we love you. We are giving you food to eat because we love you…”
“…Even though I would prefer you eat something other than grapes.” She tried to joke, which ended up finally working very effectively as she saw a small but genuine smile appear on the echidna’s face.
Knuckles couldn’t help but let out a soft snort, rolling his eyes before focusing on Maddie once again, “My grapes have nothing to do with this…”
“And I do also consume Cool Ranch Doritos from time to time…” The teen mumbled, “So saying I onlyeat grapes is inaccurate.”
The nurse gently squished his cheek playfully, “And this?” She gestured as she wiped away his tears once again, “Is because I love you. Not because I’m expecting something in return.” She explained as she now put his hands in her’s as if the size meant nothing to her…
…Because it didn’t.
“Robotnik tricked you. He tricked you into thinking he was a nice man. That isn’t your fault.” The human sternly announced once again.
The red furred echidna shook his head, “But I endangered everyone—”
“—But you also saved everyone.” The purple pajama wearing woman quickly added, “You tried to fix your mistakes…don’t think I didn’t see you punching those egg robot thingies, hun. You weren’t messing around.”
“I am not prone to be one who 'messes around…'” He said, his eyes almost jumping out of their sockets as Maddie planted a small kiss on his forehead.
“And that? That is because…” She gently urged on.
“You…Y-You love me...” Knuckles finished, almost choking on his own words, before lightly pushing her away in an attempt to get her to leave…
…Because she would eventually…
…Right?
“…Y-You hardly even know me.” The violet eyed echidna whispered, looking up at the taller figure as she gently bumped her shoulder with his.
“Doesn’t mean I can’t love you.” Maddie exclaimed as she smiled warmly, the warmness somehow making its way to the echidna warrior as his heart fluttered in his chest.
A small, subtle blush appeared on his muzzle as he looked away, trying to hide his expression.
He cleared his throat, “I…suppose that is true, Pretzel Woman…”
“Just 'Maddie' is fine, sweetie.”
The fifteen year old swallowed, wiping his eyes with his arm as he finally looked at the taller.
And if Maddie squinted…she was almost 100% sure she saw a small sparkle in the child’s eyes.
“Alright…Maddie.” The teenager announced shyly but proudly, resting his head on the other’s shoulder.
The nurse had to keep in literally every single fiber in her body to stop herself from squealing like a high-school preppy girl.
“You don’t owe us anything…okay?” The brown eyed woman stated, “You’re apart of a family, Knux. And one doesn’t protect the whole family…we all protect each other.” She rubbed Knuckles' knuckles gently and comfortingly with her thumb, “You’re a Wachowski. And the Wachowski’s stick together.”
And just like that, another silence fell among the two…although, this one was less tense which Maddie could not be more grateful for.
But the nurse couldn’t shake the feeling that something was being left…unsaid and undone.
And if you knew her…you knew dang well those two words were just simply not apart of her dictionary.
“May I give you a hug?” She asked somewhat hesitantly, but couldn’t stop the smile spreading to her face as she saw the echidna perk up at the mention.
The red echidna collected himself, clearing his throat again as he glanced up at her, “You may.”
The human wrapped the echidna in her arms, her smile doubling in size as she felt the teen wrap his own arms around her…somewhat stifly and awkwardly.
But hey, he was trying.
“I love you, Knux.” The chocolate eyed woman hummed, “And you don’t have to say it back if you aren’t ready.”
The violet eyed echidna nodded, shyly burying his face into the other’s shoulder as they continued to embrace.
“Do you…want to go back to your room…?” Maddie asked in a tone signifying she was alright with a 'yes' or a 'no'.
The warrior only held Maddie tighter at that, shaking his head as he buried his face into her shoulder harder, “In…I-In a little bit…” He answered honestly, “I do not want to go just yet…”
“That’s fine.” The human assured, “How about…we stay on the couch for a while? I bet it’s way more comfy than these old stairs.”
The red furred echidna nodded, “…Alright.”
He followed the taller to the living room, sitting on the couch as she did, watching her as she flipped through the channels.
“You okay with watching 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S.?'” The woman asked as she flipped to the Nick-at-Nite channel, relaxing on the couch cushion.
“I am very fond of my companions, yes.” The young warrior nodded, resting his eyes on the TV as this so called….'F.R.I.E.N.D.S.' show started to play.
The two sat on the couch for a while, small chuckles and snickers being shared as they reacted to the show in front of them.
Knuckles yawned, crossing his arms as he rested his head on Maddie’s arm which the older did not pay any mind to, subconsciously scratching his quills.
The younger’s eyes widened, not moving away from the touch but seeming genuinely shocked by it, “What are you doing?”
At that, the human quickly drew her hand away.
Shit.
“O-Oh, I’m sorry, baby.” She said apologetically, cursing herself for making it seem like she was trying to rush him with anything…
“It’s just a thing I do with Sonic and Tails— they find it calming. I’m sorry, I should’ve asked. It’s just…kind of an instinct…” Maddie said to Knuckles as he looked down, fiddling with his gloved fingers as he looked anywhere but the person beside him, “You do not…have to stop if you do not wish.” He admitted quietly, “It feels nice…”
The nurse tried (and failed) to hide yet another dorky grin that spread to her face as she gently ruffled Knuckles quills once more, cooing on the inside as the echidna subtly leaned into the touch, trying his absolute best to concentrate on the television but obviously clearly enjoying the affection as his tail wagged softly against the couch.
As the TV ran, Maddie moved her hand to scratch where Knuckles' ears would be and the young warrior absolutely melted at the new touch, his tail wagging faster.
The purple cladded woman fondly smiled at the reaction, moving her fingers to gently scratch the back of the echidna’s neck but nothing would have prepared her for the loud shriek the teenager let out as she did so.
The violet eyed fifteen year old covered his mouth in shock as the human retreated her hand back, her face morphing to worry once more, “A-Are you alright? Are you hurt?”
The echidna swallowed, not even trying to hide the small blush that appeared on his muzzle now as he put his hand to the side, “I-I am…uninjured.” He said as calmly as he could muster, “I apologize for startling you…I also startled myself…”
“It’s okay, sweetheart…” The purple cladded human said, “…But what happened?”
“I am…not sure.” Knuckles explained as he rubbed the back of his neck as if to redo the feeling he just felt, “You touched the back of my neck and it felt…odd.”
“Odd?” Maddie repeated.
“Odd.” Knuckles said again.
The nurse raised a curious brow, lightly poking the red furred echidna where she was once scratching him as he burst into surprised and confused giggles.
The fifteen year old shook his head back and forth, scrunching up his shoulders as he lightly tried to pry the other’s hand away.
What…was this?
And why did it make him feel so…giddy and carefree?!
“C-Cease thihis s-sohorcery ahahat once!” The violet eyed echidna giggly demanded, hugging himself and falling down on the couch, “Ceeheease ceeheease ceeheeheeheease!!” He snickered as Maddie gently started to spider her finger nails along his sides.
“It isn’t sorcery, love. Your just ticklish.” The adult chuckled, putting one and one together.
“N-Nohohoh Ihi ahahaham nohot!” The red furred teen denied through his chorus of laughs, “Ahan ehechidna waharrior woHOULD neHEHEver hahave suhuHUCH AHA c-chihildish weeheeakness!”
“Really?” Maddie smiled, intrigued as she gently prodded the other’s lower ribs, causing the other in question to automatically jerk, throwing his head back as he buried his heels in the couches cushions, “NOHOH thIHIs ihihis CHIHIHILDIHISH!!” He desperately squealed.
The woman in purple pajamas couldn’t help the small coo she let out at the teenager’s adorable reactions…
…And Knuckles didn’t even need to look at her to know she found his once-in-a-full-moon flustered expression very amusing.
“Awe, Knux…” The nurse lightly teased as her fingers continued their ticklish torment on the echidna’s ribs.
“NOHOH— snrk! DOHOHON’T!!” The echidna in question cried as his cheeks started to match his fur color, internally cursing his natural body movements as his tail wagged happily once more.
“Don’t what~? Don’t tickle you?” Maddie sweetly asked, only receiving a small but LOUD snort from the other as she moved down to gently scratch along his stomach, “Looks like I found a bad spot, huh, bud~?”
“IHIHIT IHISN’T snrt BAHAD!!” The teen insisted, banging his fists on the couch, “IHAT JUHAH—! SNRT! JUHUST FEEHEELS OHODD!!”
“Interesting…” The adult hummed, pretending she was pondering something as he dug her hand’s into the violet eyed echidna’s underarms, wincing slightly as he let out a sharp scream before descending into loud cackles.
“This feel odd too?” She asked innocently.
“IHIHAT’S snrt snrt EEHEEVEN WOHOHORSE!!!” Knuckles laughed, “G-GEHAT snrt AHAHOUT OHOF THERE!”
“Get out of where~?”
“THEHEHEHERE!” The teen quickly retorted, trying to gesture to his underarm but anytime he tried to the other would just simply make her touches even lighter, “MAHADDIE DAHAHON’T AHACT snrt STUPID!”
“'Stupid~?'” The nurse dramatically gasped, “And here I thought we bonded!” She huffed as she fluttered her fingers in the crooks of the teen’s neck and under his chin.
And truth be told…Knuckles was absolutely, positively embarrassed of this whole ordeal.
And to be honest…he could have gotten up anytime he wanted…
…But he didn’t.
He hadn’t thought he’d ever feel such…happiness and carefreeness ever again…
…But it’s like Sonic always said…
'Hope is a hedgehog’s greatest weapon.'
“SNRT! NOHOH!! STOHOP SNRT IHAT!!!” The echidna wheezed out, his legs frantically kicking behind Maddie.
“Guess this is your sweet spot…” The woman smiled brightly.
“NAHAHAH! SNRT! NOHAHOTHING AHABOHOUT SNRT SNRT MY NECK IHIHIS SWEEHEEHEET!!!” The young warrior cackled loudly, tears welling up in his eyes…
…And for the first time in…well, forever…they were happy ones.
“AHALRIGHT!! AHAHALRIHIGHT!!!” He relented, lightly pushing on her hands, “IHI SURRENDER! IHIHIHI SURRENDER!!”
And just like that Maddie immediately let up, sitting back as Knuckles let out a couple more aftermath giggles.
“You okay, baby?” The human asked, wiping away the rest of his happy tears.
“Y-Yehes. I aham snrt fine…” The red echidna hummed, sitting back on the couch as he layed his head on the figure’s shoulder again.
“Thank you, Mo—“ Knuckles' eyes widened, quickly catching his slip-up, “M-Maddie. Maddie. Thank you, Maddie.” He exclaimed quickly, quietly praying to his echidna ancestors that the purple pajama wearing woman did not catch his mistake.
But judging by her wide eyes and agape mouth…she most likely did.
“Uhm…I-I must go to my sleeping quarters now…g-goodnight.” Knuckles stammered under his breath quickly and quiety, not waiting for the other to give an answer as he basically sprinted to the attic, quietly closing the door to not disturb his brothers whom were soundly fast asleep.
Maddie slowly got out of her state of shock, her heart basically leaping out of her chest as she fondly smiled, shutting off all the lights in the living room and kitchen before taking one small glance at the closed attic door.
She felt…so warm and…so fuzzy…
Instead of her heart dropping…she honestly felt like it just soared to heaven.
“Goodnight, son.” She whispered, wiping her eyes as she slipped into her and Tom’s bedroom, going under the covers next to her husband and going back to sleep.

Comforting words can go a long way (A sonic 3 oneshot):
It was late now at the Wachowski campsite, Tom, Maddie, Sonic and Knuckles had drifted off to sleep hours ago but despite his best efforts Tails couldn't sleep.
He could only think of one thing...Stone.
Tails couldn't think of why, but despite being Robotnik's lackey Tails had never thought of him as a particularly bad person, not only had he seemed genuinely horrified when he heard about Gerald Robotnik's plans for Earth, but the man had tried to shield him when Shadow attacked them...that had to count for something right.
After tossing and turning for a good while now and still unable to sleep he got up with a irritated huff and grabbed his backpack walking out the tent.
Sitting down near the now dead campfire he pulled out his Miles electric and tapped away at it.
After several minutes of tapping away he located Stone.
The man was located at Kings Cross Station in London, however according to the schedules no trains were departing for several hours and apparently Stone's signal had been stationary for a few hours now.
Deciding he needed to do something, anything to help the grieving man Tails pulled out a ring he'd been keeping for emergencies he threw it and stepped through.
London:
Stone was sitting on a bench at Kings Cross, the station was deathly silent, the usual trains weren't running at this time, Stone noticed several parked in the platforms but they weren't the reason for him being there.
He was looking up at the stars as well as the now damaged moon, he couldn't get his thought of the doctor.
People only saw them as two madmen but to him Ivo Robotnik was a friend...yes a very very flawed friend, but one nonetheless, the two having met back when Stone was in the military, the two having formed something of a partnerships, neither he nor Ivo had been able to figure out what they were and now they clearly never would.
"Erm, excuse me." A tiny voice said.
Taken by surprise Stone looked and saw the young Fox, Tails or something looking at him with a pair of bright cyan eyes.
Stone blinked not sure if he was hallucinating but after a moment he realised he mustn't be as the fox kit was still here.
"Not to be rude, but how did you get in here?" Stone asked.
"I used a ring, how did you get here?" Tails asked blinking innocently at him.
"That's for me to know and you to find out." Stone said simply.
He looked at Tails who simply stared at him.
"So what are you doing here...Tails was it?" Stone asked.
Tails nodded.
"Technically it's Miles, but you can call me Tails." Tails told him.
Stone nodded.
"So Tails, what brings you to merry old London?" Stone asked.
"I wanted to see you, make sure you were ok." Tails said.
"Oh I'm just fine, all lollipops and rainbows." Stone said bitterly.
"I may be a kid but I can recognise sarcasm you know." Tails said crossing his arms and looking at him with a pout that even Stone thought looked adorable on the kits face.
"Alright fine I'll level with you kid, I've just lost the man I loved over some stupid thing I barely know the details of, he was the first person who actually treated me with some level of respect after I withdrew from Afghanistan and yeah you know what, maybe he was kinda crazy, and maybe he was a bit of a jerk at times but we had each other and that was enough, I loved him kid and now without I'm completely lost and confused, do you have any idea what that's like Tails." Stone snapped.
He looked at the fox seeing his tails had wilted and ears drooped back and he frowned.
"Sorry kid, I didn't mean to go all dark and gloomy on you." Stone said.
"Actually I kinda get it, when I was younger I was always picked on for my extra tail and my smarts, even my own parents had abandoned me by the time I was three." Tails said.
Stone grimaced. "Wow, that's horrible." He said.
"Well I've been staying with Sonic, Knuckles and my mom and dad for a while now they took me in and loved me regardless of my flaws, but if I lost then I guess I'd feel like you do right now, I know it's probably not what you want to hear right now, I just want you to know I understand." Tails are.
Stone looked at the kid in front of him, he would be lying if he said the kid's statement hadn't resonated with his own lonely childhood.
"Sorry, didn't mean to give you my life story." Tails apologised.
Stone shrugged.
"No Tails, that actually did help, guess we have more in common than we thought." Stone said.
"I guess." Tails said.
Just then the Fox let out a very wide yawn, it was then Stone noticed just how late it was, he looked at Tails who looked absolutely exhausted, if he was right about how young the kit was he should have been in bed and fast asleep hours ago.
"You have a way home right?" Stone asked.
Tails suddenly realised he hadnt grabbed a spare ring and face-palmed when he realised his error.
Stone let out an amused snort.
"I'll give you a ride home, want me to carry you?" He asked.
"Tha---s." Tails said, the rest being drowned out by another almighty yawn and he climbed onto the mans shoulders.
Stone simply snorted again and made his way out of the station and towards crab-bot as Ivo had dubbed it.
Thankfully the streets were quiet even by London's standards so thankfully they got very few looks.
Stone wasn't sure when but at some point the kit fell asleep on his shoulders.
The Fox's soft snores echoed in Stone's ears as he walked and not even he could hide his smile at the child's innocence, expecially when the world seemed so determined to snatch it from him.
They got to the crab-bot and Stone set the snoozing fox down in the co-pilot seat, the kid shuffling slightly in his sleep using one of his tails as an improvised pillow.
Stone smiled at the adorable sight before setting course for Green Hills.
By the time they got there it was early morning and when they got to the campsite the Wachowskis were staying at Stone could see the kit's family looking for him.
They certainly weren't expecting to see Stone appear with said Fox snuggled up in his arms.
"Relax, I'm just bringing him home." Stone said seeing the alert looks on Tom, Knuckles and Sonic's faces.
He handed Tails over to Maddie who took the sleeping fox with a much kinder look than the others were giving him.
Tails let out a tiny yawn and groggily opened his eyes looking at Maddie with a sleepy smile.
"Hi mama." He mumbled sleepily cuddling into her.
"Hi pumpkin." Maddie cooed before heading to the kids tent with the exhausted fox, the two talking in hushed whispers.
Stone turned around and was about to leave when he saw Sonic in front of him.
"What were you doing with Tails?" The blue hedgehog demanded.
"Nothing, he came to me, we had a chat and he couldn't get home so I gave him a lift." Stone said truthfully, well he was hardly lying was he.
Sonic gave him a look but seeing no trace of a lie nodded.
"Well, thanks for bringing him back...and look I'm sorry about Eggman, yeah I didn't particularly like him, but he did the right thing in the end, and despite our checkered past...I guess I can respect him for that." Sonic said.
Stone nodded.
"Thanks Sonic...you've got a good brother there, take care of him." Stone said.
Sonic nodded and with a brief smile Stone climbed into the crab-bot and departed the Wachowski campsite.

Fankids Character Charts [1/3]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kids!! The first 7 out of all the kids getting charts!!! They're going to be divided in three groups because they're too many kiddos now lol.
More detailed info under the cut!
Emmie: Sonadow kid, the one who got my fankid train started! Also, the first Tube Baby! (Here's three posts about it: One, two, three).
Her full name is Emily (meaning "rival"), however, everyone just calls her Emmie (out of universe explanation + in universe explanation).
She has Black Arms DNA, but it's uncertain the lenghts it's effects have on her. They know she had green blood (first shown here) and has access to the Hivemind, which as a baby she used to communicate with Shadow (first shown here), but as she grew older she stopped using it, and now finds it harder to access it.
She, of course, also has Chaos Energy. She has super speed and can perform Chaos Control (here) and turn Super (first shown here), but her super form is highly unstable and quickly becomes similar to Sonic's "Super Fleetway" form (here).
Emmie uses her trusty yoyo to fight (here), complementing her powers and ability in a way to extend the reach of her attacks, rope in her enemies, etc.
Listen to Emmie's Spotify playlist here!!
Sparks: The oldest of my Blazamy kids, and first Belly Baby in the lineup (here's context).
Sparks has fire powers, similar to Blaze's, though they find them a bit harder to control. They get Blaze, Knuckles and Espio's help to learn to use said powers, since they require a lot of training. Also, again, quite like Blaze, they can turn into Burning Sparks (here), but this form drains their energy pretty fast.
Since Blaze is a princess, Amy, Sparks and Tulip do acquire royalty related tiltes, however, they're very informal and don't hold that much power due to Blaze not wanting them to have any responsability simply because they're related to her. Despite this, Sparks does end up becoming ruler of the Sol Dimension later in the timeline, but by their own volution.
They use a fire sword to fight (here). It would be a simple sword, but they infuse it with their powers for it to become this flaming version of the weapon.
Listen to Sparks' Spotify playlist here!!
Lash: The oldest of my Scourgiona kids and your local surprise baby representation.
Her main ability is acrobatics, and she has some sort of super speed but it's quite weak compared to Emmie's.
She has both mommy and daddy issues, and spends most of her time at Aim's house, although she grew up with Mareep, Glamour and Stumble. She has two older siblings, and at first she didn't have much of a relationship with them, since they're younger than her and much closer to each other, but eventually Lash steps in and tries to be a part of her siblings' life like their parents should've been.
She starts as more of a "villain", taking the role of your local mean girl next to Mareep and the others, and has a bit of friction with the rest of the kids, but as she starts hanging out more with Aim and Spades, she begins to let that attitude go and tries to be better, eventually joining the Restoration.
Listen to Lash's Spotify playlist here!!
Aim: Whispangle kid, selectively mute, and a Belly Baby.
He does archery, which is their main fighting technique, however, during battle, they also use their tail to move around faster and will occasionally team up with Whisper's wisps.
He does not speak, at all, but the others just seem to understand him without him even needing sign language or anything. Also finally giving it a name rather than just saying 'he doesn't speak', they're selectively mute! So yay for it finally having a name!
Listen to Aim's Spotify playlist here!!
Bria: Sonina (Sonia x Mina) Belly Baby! Making them Emmie's younger cousin.
They don't fight much, rather serving to give hope and high spirits to those around her! But of course, living in the universe they live in, they know martial arts just in case it's needed, and as self defense.
Even though Bria's hard of hearing, his biggest passion is music. She plays piano and guitar, piano being his main instrument.
Listen to Bria's Spotify playlist here!!
Tulip: The youngest of my Blazamy siblings, also a Belly Baby (in universe explanation here).
He hasn't shown any special ability yet, which is something that bothers him. Because of this, he isn't allowed to be around the other kids when there's danger, but he's very sneaky and often gets things to work in his favor anyway (in some strange way, he always knows what to do to get what's best for his interests, hm...)
He has an interest in tarot cards, like Amy, and in these sorts of magic related topics.
Listen to Tulip's Spotify playlist here!!
Destiny: One and only Code Baby! And Sallicole kid. She's an AI similar to Nicole, but with more advanced and sophisticated technology.
Being an AI, she can easily hack into robots and computers, which helps during battle.
They usually take the leader role very naturally, immediately making a plan on the spot and guiding the rest of the group thanks to her rational thinking nature. However, she's quite shy which makes things a bit difficult for her, her confident side mainly showing when assuming the role of the leader, or when fighting for things they're passionate about.
Destiny is president and leader or a smaller section of the Restoration, which is the training and formation for teenagers. This is where she shines her brightest, leading this group on missions and making their plans of action, as well as organizing their training schedule.
Listen to Destiny's Spotify playlist here!!

Fanfic: Sonic BOOM! Stone Au chapter. 1
Sticks and stone
(No warnings needed!! A baby can read this)
"Is it just me or have Meh Burger toys been very random lately?"
Sonic complained as he pulled out a pair of knitting needles from the Meh Burger paper bag, he walked alongside his team through the village's streets.
They'd just come back from Meh Burger before any of them had finished their lunch, an annoying kid's birthday party two tables over spoiled their whole meal, two of the kids were fighting over a bowl of ice cream, fruitlessly, because it ended up flying in the air and ending up in Sonic and his team's food.
Of course, Dave didn't clean up or replace their food.
Tails caught up to Sonic. "More importantly, that's a very dangerous choking hazard," he points a claw at the "toy".
"Why did you order the kid's meal anyway?" Amy asked.
"I didn't. They got my order wrong, again, and I didn't feel like fighting Dave the intern...again." Sonic exhaled and looked around as if to figure out where he should put his newly acquired knitting needles, his eyes landed on Knuckles.
"Hey, Knucks, want these?" he extends his hand to the echidna.
"No, thanks, I don't like Asian food that much." he held up his hand in protest.
"Knuckles these are for yarn."
"I don't like eating yarn either."
"I think we should all start eating healthy food and start cutting off junk food, if you could even call Meh Burger food." the pink hedgehog muttered the last sentence, "I think some homemade meals and vegetables are in order if we want to maintain our health."
"yeah sure, but you're the only one of us that knows how to cook, and I don't have a stove." Sticks half-shrugged.
"Let me guess because the flames are actually chemicals that release pheromones that aliens can track from their home planet?" Tails asks the badger, unamused.
Sticks threw her hands up. "No! That's crazy! It's because the stove's gas would blow my cover and the underground serpents can sense it and find me!" the girl argued with her much more reasonable theory.
Sonic rolls his eyes, "Besides, who has the time to cook every single meal every day?"
Amy hums. "Yeah, I wish there was at least somewhere we could eat proper food at, for brunch or breakfast," she brought her hands together and sighed dreamily. "Somewhere classy! with a homey feeling and decor."
"Too bad Meh Burger is the only restaurant in this village," Knuckles scratches his head, "why is that anyway?"
"Well, our village isn't exactly the most...uh..." the fox trails off, trying to find the right word.
"Welcoming? Pleasant? Well known? Safe?" Sticks laid out those words, they're all accurate.
"Yeah, all of those."
"I don't think they got the memo." Sonic stops in his tracks and points at a building right between the hardware store and the laundromat, it was modern with a "classy" look as Amy wished a moment ago, right above its glass doors was a sign with a coffee bean drawing on it and the words "The Mean Bean"
They all looked intrigued at the new building, they stood there and stared, briefly blocking the road and annoying the passerbys, seriously guys move..
"Woah, that place looks nice! looks like that restaurant Amy ran for one day before it got destroyed by Eggman's robots."  Knuckles said in awe at the place.
However, the badger's ears went back and her snout scrunched up, her eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"I have a bad feeling about this place I'm telling ya!"
"You said the same thing yesterday about a bathroom." Sonic sassed.
"This is different! How could a shop just appear out of thin air like that!?"
"I was wondering the same thing, actually; I don't think a coffee shop that intricate could be built overnight." Tails added, putting a finger on his chin.
"Maybe the show creators don't have the budget for a construction montage." Amy thought out loud.
"I thought this was a fanfiction." knuckles chimed in.
Sticks groaned and growled, "I'm telling ya guys, it's a trap, and the government is behind it!" she waved her arms around manically, not helping her case at all.
"yeah how about we go inspect this "trap" and their coffee? Y'know to make sure nothing illegal is going on." Sonic suggested calmly, completely dismissing Sticks's concerns.
That would sound mean but this is another "the boy that cried "wolf"" situation, if they listen to every single insane accusation Sticks made up they'd all end up living in the stone age, then who would be the tech wizz? who would dox jerks on the internet?
You can decide who the last sentence applies to.
"I thought you didn't like coffee." The inventor tilted his head at his older brother.
He pats his younger brother's head. "Yeah, but I'm down to try anything new, besides, I'm sick of Meh Burger's radioactive soda."
"I don't think our legal team can handle more Meh Burger slander." worried Amy to herself.
After much banter, the team finally approached the shining glass doors of The Mean Bean coffee shop.
With Sticks being dragged by Knuckles.
Standing there wiping at the counter with a damp cloth was a man, ...a human, he had brown skin, probably middle aged, he had a name tag on his apron that said "Stone", he greeted them with a warm smile and a wave, he put the cloth away and stood straight behind the counter, waiting for the team to walk up to him and order.
The red hero leaned over to whisper in Sonic's ear "Dude, that guy's a human.", "yeah? so?" "I thought Eggman was the only human around."
Sonic scratched the back of his head "Well, not anymore, he looks very different from Eggman."
Amy leans over to whisper to Sonic as well "Not all humans look the same, Sonic."
"I know that but I mean he just looks so.. normal... nothing like eggman, he looks like just a guy."
"Just a guy? really Sonic, this again?"
"What? No! ugh nevermind, sorry Amy." He quickly shut himself up, not wanting any more lectures or classes about being sensitive.
"He kinda has a point though." Tails agreed, "But it is nice to meet a new human that doesn't plan on destroying us."
"That's what he wants you to think." Sticks growled, making direct eye contact with the barista.
The barista who can very clearly tell they were talking smack about him, his eyes kept going back and forth between them, the wall, the counter, and the very enraged boomerang wielding hero.
Kind of resembling a dog when someone is trying to record it.
Finally, the banter came to halt when Amy noticed how rude they were being, first impressions are very important after all.
"Hello! welcome to The Mean Bean coffee cafe, how may I help you?" Said the barista.
"Well firstly I'd like to point out out how beautiful your cafe is, Mr. Stone." Amy chirped, "um this is your cafe right?"
Stone nodded and his eyes crinkled "Yes it is, that's nice of you to say..Ms. Amy rose isn't it?"
Her eyebrow raised, "Yeah, you know me?"
"But of course, you're Hedgehog village's most beloved heroes."
"it's only heroes." Sonic smirked.
"You're sonic I'm assuming?"
The blue one puffed out his chest with pride, "The one and only."
"And you're Knuckles," he points at the echidna, "Tails," he points to the two-tailed fox,
"And.. Sticks." he hesitated a little to point at the brown and cocoa colored badger, in all honesty he was worried she'd she'd bite his finger right off, her scowl showed off her canines that would make that action easy.
Of course he knew who these people were, he knew everything he needed to about this village.
Everything.
"Of course you know all of our names.." Sticks grumbled, "And I bet that that's not all you know."
Stone's expression faltered for a moment, but quickly shook off the girl's comment.
"Say, I've heard of this "Eggman" fellow a lot, but I haven't seen him once.."
Sticks gripped her arm at the comment, why does he wanna see Eggman?!
"Not that I want to see him or anything.. just to be cautious." Stone stammered when he saw Sticks's death grip.
He needs to be more careful.
"Oh, Egghead? Yeah don't worry about it, knowing him he's probably planning an attack right now." Sonic grabbed a menu and started looking through it, "Geez, I didn't know there were that many kinds of coffee."
"Yeah...hey why does this bean shop smell like coffee?" puzzled knuckles.
".. because this is a coffee shop." replied Stone in disbelief at how ridiculous that question was.
Maybe his job here wasn't going to be that hard.
Not the barista job at least.
Tails gasped "woah these look so good." he said putting his hands on the clean glass.
That irked Stone a little, but no worries, the fox too cute to be mad at.
The other two joined Sonic in reading the menu, Sticks remained in her place, still glaring.
"So... would you like to order anything?"
"Hmm.. what's in this stuff you call coffee, "Stone"" She does air quotations while saying the humans name.
"Well, Ms."Sticks"," The barista mimicked her air quotations with humor, "Each coffee is made differently, but to answer your question: Milk, coffee, water and sometimes sugar."
Sticks rubbed her chin, her glare didn't waver a one bit.
Everything was still for a moment, the badger kept glaring and the human accepted the challenge.
They remained like that for a moment because she stomped her foot and pointed an accusing claw at the man.
"I know what you are!" Sticks shrieked, freaking out her friend and Stone, and some of the other customers.
"Sticks!" Amy scolded, "Leave him alone, I know you're paranoid but this is no excuse to accuse an innocent man of...what are you even accusing him of!?"
"He's a government agent! look at him!"
Stone stood there like a deer in the headlights, he mustered up the most innocent expression he could.
"He's planning on taking control over the village! mark my words, this man is a government agent and he's here to control our minds!" the badger waved her arms around emphasizing her point.
All of her friends just stared.
unamused.
uncaring.
Then went back to what they were doing before Sticks's outburst.
Next up was a loud scream, and Sticks ran out the the restaurant as furious as ever.

She ran and ran, until her stamina ran out and she reached the forest.
"What now?..." she exhaled and sat and a nearby rock with her head in her hands. "I can't let that guy hurt my friends..."
She thought to herself, she couldn't let that guy roam around and putting other's lives in danger.
But at the same time she couldn't investigate him all on her own, if the agent's patience ran out he might kidnap her and make her work in a secret underground trees-that-are-actually-spy-cameras factory!
Then their would be no one to keep an eye on the village, and her friends are all probably already mind controlled by the microchips in "Stone"'s food and coffee.
She'll need a sidekick.
Just at that moment a black and red bird flew into a nest on branch, the bird shimmied until it settled it's bed.
"I know just the guy.."

I hope u guys enjoyed this! writing isn't really my strong point so I appreciate constructive criticism, also Stone's characterisation is gonna be tough... sorry this was about sticks more than stone LOL the next one will be stone centric (with stobotnik obviously)

Tumblr media
Your first meeting with Mitsuya is a memory that is always present in the forefront of your head. It isn’t something that you could easily ignore or brush off, how such a sweet boy who was about your age had a baby to his chest and a kid younger than you both holding his hand so tightly you could see their knuckles turning white. What a rare sight it was, for a boy so young to guide his sister (after you heard her address him as big brother), the gentle tone to his voice, the carefulness when holding the baby to his chest—his kind gesture seals the deal for you.
Shy and scared as a shrinking violet, your teary eyes face away from the two boys who had pushed you off the swing. Young you was never able to speak her mind so bravely, so freely—yet you watch as Mitsuya—(a total stranger at the time), come to your rescue with a baby wrapped closely to him. It is ridiculous the way he fights and scares them off so easily. At first, they mock him for his soft features, for his lavender eyes and for the tiny human being latching onto him. Yet a single kick to one of the boys’ stomach is enough to send chills down your spine. That looks painful, you think.
As you wipe your eyes, you are finally able to look away from the bullies scurrying away with their tails tucked between their legs, facing your knight in shining armor. Your savior. What do you say in such situations? What do you do? You forget to stand up and dust yourself, only realizing your position when your neck starts to hurt from craning it to look up at your hero.
“Are you okay?” he presents a warm hand which you gladly hold, and he pulls you up with so much ease as you wipe away the excess tears on your cheeks. “I’ve seen them around here, never been nice to anyone.” He continues to talk and you continue to give silent nods as a response. At one point, he questions your ability to speak and your face heats up.
“I’m just…”
“Shy?” The slight to his head, the sweet smile—the crush you developed for the boy was all too expected with how nice he was to you.
As the years pass by, the friendship the two of you have developed turned into something that none of you could quite decipher—not that you wanted to. Strangely, you enjoyed the confusion that paints his friends’ faces as you walk up to him, scold him for missing lunch, for not answering your calls—and he doesn’t blush nor does he shy away from returning your hugs, even more passionately than the way you almost tackle him to the ground. His arms have grown stronger than when you were kids, and the way he smells has become so sweet…so intoxicating—you feel dizzy when you pull away from him, unable to look him in the eye for the next 30 seconds as you listen to whatever lame joke Draken has to say about the two of you.
Unbeknownst to you, the boy remembers the day he saw you as though it was yesterday as well. Pretty girl crying on the playground, heart thrumming in his chest when he saw the tears painting your face—he wasn’t in Toman at the time, wasn’t even a thing to begin with. He lies to himself and says that his brotherly instincts kick in when he saw you, that the protectiveness stems from the fact that he would’ve done the same if it were one of his two little sisters. Nevertheless, whatever he was telling his stubborn brain would not go through. He hears you sniffle and helps you up, gives you a tissue to clean yourself and even questions your ability to speak—when you part your lips, your soft voice is what seals the deal for him at the time.
At the time, developing a crush could be from something as simple as saying hi a bit too excitedly or in Mitsuya’s case, the way you had always been nice to other kids on the playground. You weren’t that talkative, but you played with kids on the swing, built sandcastles with them—until those two boys bullied you and the lavender boy knew he had to do something about it.
Watching you grow was a privilege. In Mitsuya’s eyes, having you was perfect. Knowing you, growing with you, embracing you in his arms—you’ve become more beautiful, your eyelashes brush over your cheeks when you blink and your lips pout instead of wobbling when you get sad. Your eyes still hold the same amount of warmth in them as that summer day he met you. You smell as sweet as a jasmine, handle his little sisters as though they are your own, delicate fingers brushing their hair, fixing their bangs, prepping their meals—you treat him and his family with something that feels so special but he would hate to be falsely reading between the lines.
Empathy and kindness have always been one of your traits, you put other people first and although Mitsuya loved it when someone realized just how much of an amazing human being you were, he hated seeing you get taken advantage of. So nice, so sweet—an angel.
You are present when Toman becomes a thing, celebrate alongside the first few members of the biker gang the birth of something so small yet so significant (with a future so big, nobody could ever foresee it). However, violence was never your thing. And so a frown sits heavy on your face whenever you see small scratches on Mitsuya’s face, remind yourself to scold him later for the bruise on his jaw—how would he explain it to his sisters? They’re probably worried sick about him!
“It’s me, can you open up?” it is a rainy summer night, your favorites. You are wearing light pajama pants and a tank top as you approach the entrance door with your heart beating in your throat. At around 11:32PM, soft knocks come to your door. You don’t move from the couch at first. Maybe they’ve mistaken the property for theirs.
Until a second round of knocks come in, and you hear the muffled voice and—wait, you know that voice! As you rush to undo the locks, nothing could’ve ever prepared you for the scene awaiting you.
Mitsuya Takashi was everything yet nothing—a leader, an older brother and a best friend, but when he comes to you so late at night with bruises and cuts all over his face—purple and red knuckles, the bones almost visible, he hisses at the feeling of the alcohol against his wounds. Tears welling up in his eyes, the sniffles--you realize how utterly small and vulnerable he is, sitting on your red couch with legs that would not rest. His limbs shake and his head hurts, you doubt that he has eaten anything all day and he watches as you sigh and rearrange the first aid kit before making your way to the kitchen.
“I’m sorry,” his voice sounds harsh, the softness to it no longer there after having yelled so much during yet another one of Toman’s fights. You give no response. You don’t need his apologies, you do not need words right now—however, starting a fight was the last thing on your mind, and clearly not what Mitsuya was able to handle in such state.
“It’s alright,” you say as you make your way back to where he was and place food in front of him. Hot and delicious, the smell alone is enough to make his mouth water and he digs in with no regard to his wounds—you hear him hiss as he pulls the chopsticks away from his lips and for the first time ever, you give a small chuckle.
Mitsuya smiles at this, a little relieved that you weren’t that mad at him. However, he sees the way you sit and face away from him, how your eyes trail longer on the uninteresting, empty road out there rather than his face. This was unlike you. You were never one to avoid eye contact with him, having openly admitted that you find solace in his lavender eyes and his gentle stare. Clearly, something was wrong.
“Are you angry with me?” It is not a surprise that the emotionally intelligent man was able to pick up on the subtle hints you’ve thrown his way about your sour mood, and you suck in your lips for a bit before finally mustering up the courage to face him. Your eyes are tired, a deep frown sitting heavy on your face and painting your features in a darker light than usual. One that has the wounded man’s heart breaking for a bit.
“Only worried,” you want to say more, Mitsuya fixing his posture to look at you encourages you to do so. “Do you have to do this?” you whisper the question so softly, so afraid that someone in the empty apartment beside Mitsuya would hear. You don’t know why you are so afraid of being heard, perhaps because you know you are overstepping into a territory that wasn’t yours—something you’ve never had the chance to experience—Toman, the community, the people in it. They all meant so much to the guy sitting next to you, wouldn’t it be insulting to ask him if he has to put his life on the line for them every time?
Upon hearing those words, a sigh leaves the guy’s lips and you feel like sinking into the couch. Conversing with Mitsuya was easy, it felt natural and smooth—why was this topic so anxiety inducing then?
“You’ve been there… you know, when it all started.” His words serve as a reminder of the day it all started, the joy on everyone’s faces when Mitsuya handed them the old Toman uniforms. You’ve seen it, how dedicated all of them were. You were understanding—but this was too much.
“I have but—Takashi, this is ridiculous,” you turn to face him and Mitsuya’s eyes flicker down to your pouty lips before staring back at your eyes. He hates seeing you so upset.
“I know, I know…” his hand slides towards your own and you feel electricity through your body when you feel his touch, the way his fingers interlace with yours and his thumb brushes over the skin of the back of your hand. “I just have to and plus, kinda needed that beating as warm up.”
“Huh?” you stare at him confused, pushing him to continue.
“Toman’s been involved in something a bit nasty,”
“But you guys are used to nasty, right?” there’s nervousness in your voice.
“Yeah but this is… This is next level,” when Mitsuya leans forward with his elbows on his knees, the serious look on his face almost sends you spiraling.
“Who?”
“Hm?”
“Who are you fighting?” You’re fighting off high levels of anxiety as he keeps you waiting for a few seconds before replying.
“Tenjiku.”
“Tenji—“ you choke on your spit, unable to finish your sentence out of pure shock. “Tenjiku! You are fighting Tenjiku? No, no no no—you’re not,” you’ve grown agitated at the mention of the name of the gang, and Mitsuya suddenly finds himself unable to calm you down as he normally can.
“Hey, it’s okay we’ve got this, we always do—“
“You always do?!” You repeat, before pointing at his state. “Look at you! You’re barely coming back in one piece, think you can fight Tenjiku?”
“Well excuse you, Toman is also very strong.” Takashi also gets up from the couch, your words having too much of an effect on the usually calm and collected man. As he watches you pace around the living room of your apartment, his hands find themselves in front of his body, reaching towards you in a futile attempt of getting you to calm or sit down. But to no avail. It seems as though the mention of such dangerously reputable biker gang sets you off, and the possibility of what might happen to the man if not careful enough sends you spiraling down faster with each short inhale you take.
“That’s—what? A thousand men against a hundred? Don’t be ridiculous Takashi.”
“How am I being ridiculous? You know Toman,” his eyebrows are furrowed and his body stops moving, indicating that your words were starting to get to him personally. “We are strong, we got this.”
“You always come back beaten up and bloody!” you half yell out exasperated. “You don’t got this if most of your body is black and blue by the time a fight is over!”
The tension in the room has grown so thick. It’s unusual given your somewhat stable friendship with the man. Slight disagreements happened here and there over things that you could easily brush off and say ‘yes, I was wrong and you were right,’ or simply ignore it and pretend it never happened. But as your voice gets louder, and you show more and more evidence of how upset you are, it’s clear as day that ‘slight’ wouldn’t describe the situation accurately. You were having a full blown argument with Mitsuya, and it still hasn’t sunk in yet.
Mitsuya can hear his heart beat in his chest, he feels his ears heating up with the amount of negative feelings he was experiencing towards this—towards you being so against Toman winning. Did you really not believe in him? Were you faking being supportive this entire time?
“You know I’m still going to go and fight alongside them, right?” The tone Takashi uses with you is so unusual that you feel your eyes brimming with tears straight away. Cold and indifferent, two things you never thought you could associate with how the man felt for you.
“Well don’t come to my place for me to clean you up. Find someone else.”
“I will.” He doesn’t wait for you to open the door for him, doesn’t say goodnight as he usually does. He doesn’t even slam the door as he leaves. He is cold and distant as he walks further and further away from you, from the argument. Reality sets in and the heavy weight of your words and reactions to his announcement come flashing back like a short movie made to embarrass you, make you feel guilty.
“Fuck.”
--
“Mitsuya! You’re distracted!” Another punch lands on the lavender hair’s jaw, sending him flying into the ground with a loud thud. Although his injuries aren’t as bad as half of Toman’s, his disorganized state is sending most of his division members into a panicked state. He was never like this.
“Ugh--!” Before he can stand up, he is being kicked repeatedly in the guts until blood spills out of his mouth, and he takes the opportunity to roll over and away from whoever’s attacking him to avoid another harsh blow to his body. He gets on one knee with an arm around his middle, protecting his injuries and he coughs out blood before letting his wobbly legs help him stand up straight.
“Shit—sorry,” his hand wipes at the blood on his lips. He gets into a fighting stance and immediately, the look in his eyes changes into something fiercer, more passionate. He hates that the argument with you is the only thing on his mind. Your words, your tone, even the way you haven’t reached out to him in a couple of days. He hates fighting with you, despises the fact that maybe you were right, and that Tenjiku are beating them up. But one glance at his division members—at Toman, it reminds him that the roars of victory when the fight ends, the tears of joy. The pain in his body could never compare to the happiness and satisfaction of being in this gang, his second family. However, he cannot wait for everything to be over, and for you two to make up.
--
The universe has a strange way of showing that two people are meant to be. As Mitsuya makes his way back to his apartment, several groans escape his lips as he drags his bloodied and beaten up body up the stairs. He preferred going to yours because there were less stairs but…It looks like it wasn’t an option now. As his hand twists the knob of his door, he is fully prepared to see a mortified baby sitter asking him what exactly had happened—but instead, he sees something else. Or rather someone.
Earlier that night, things were a bit messy for you. Feeling as though you have been punched repeatedly in the guts wasn’t an enjoyable feeling—the nausea amplified by your shallow breathing, your nostrils hurting from the harsh cold air and your throat dry as a desert as your body refuses to swallow, instead sending you into an anxious state as it forgets to let the oxygen into your lungs. You choke as you get away from the window and run to the kitchen to grab some water, you open the tap and let the cold liquid hit your wrists, calm your nerves. You lean against the sink with your elbows propped against the surface and your lips pathetically wobble as tears threaten to spill. You couldn’t handle this anymore.
You were glad that Luna and Mana had gone down to sleep easily, a short story about a princess that wandered around the forest, slipping down a mystery hole into a magical world which she ended up ruling had the girls’ eyes sparkle, yet the tiredness was visible as their under eyes darkened, eyelids heavy and before you knew it—tiny snores resonated through their shared room. You checked on them a couple of times throughout the night, and although the sight of them sleeping so soundly had you place a hand on your chest as muscle memory, your body wanting to show its relief—your brain was running a thousand miles per hour. Takashi—how was he? Would he even make it back? You feel as though you were a bit harsh with him when telling him that you wouldn’t treat his wounds—but his stubbornness, you couldn’t handle it anymore.
There is a crackling noise coming from the fireplace, and you know that the coldness of your body calls for warming up but—but not now, not when Mitsuya wasn’t back home yet, and it was already approaching three in the morning.
As strange as it may seem, the invisible thread connecting the two of you was tugging from both sides and you find yourself staring at the door knob before it starts twisting. When the door swings open and a bloody Mitsuya comes in sight, the first thing that leaves your lips is a defeated “oh” before your feet rush you to the first aid kit you had brought with you from your place.
“What…are you doing here?” Takashi is the first to break the silence as he limps towards the couch. You don’t answer, you gently place him on the cushions before cradling his face in your hands. He doesn’t like the look on your face, how your eyes are brimming with tears and your bottom lip wobbles before you look away to hide the fact that you were very close to bursting into tears.
“I was never going to come.” You admit, but it was obviously a lie. Not with the way you carefully unbutton his uniform top and hand him a bottle of water to keep him hydrated.
“I know,” his voice had gone low, almost ashamed to be in such position.
“Did you at least win?” You whisper as you open the kit and pull out cotton and some disinfectant for his wounds, a bandage for his for his arms and legs. His uniform was ripped, destroyed from being tossed to the ground repeatedly, but the proud smile on his face eases your worries a bit. You miss seeing his lips curl up like that.
“Toman never loses.”
The next few minutes go by in complete silence, with the occasional hiss and groans from the man being treated and your soft apologies. The living room is filled with something so intense, ready to snap at any given moment. When Takashi groans as you press at a certain spot between his ribs, you freeze and look up at him.
“You broke a bone?”
“I figured with how hard I was getting beaten,” he holds his side with a slight wince.
“Takashi…” said man looks down at you, and his eyes soften when he sees that the tears you once held in were finally spilling out. “You’re so reckless, I—you stress me out,” you try to wipe your tears away, but it seems useless. The more tears fall down, the less control you have over your sobs. You are on the verge of a full breakdown and the man sitting before you on the couch can’t help but reach his hands towards you to smooth your hair, push it out of your wet face.
“Hey…hey I’m fine, I’m sorry that I caused you this much stress I just—“
“I don’t wanna lose you,” you cut him off abruptly, moving your hands away from your face and letting him fully cradle your face. “I can’t imagine living without you, Taka,” before your lip could start wobbling again, Takashi’s thumb gently brushes over it and pulls it down.
“You won’t lose me,” he whispers, leaning down to your level. “Ever. I know I get beaten up very often, but I always come back in one piece, don’t I?”
“But what if something happens?” you’re finally letting your worries float to the surface openly. Rather than telling him not to fight like last time, you are now fully admitting that you were anxious about his absence, how much he means to you and how his well being affects your life. “What if—what if you lose, you die and I don’t have you in my life?”
“That wouldn’t be so horrible, hm? I do cause you a lot of stress apparently,” he tries to joke, lift up your mood but you shake your head almost harshly, hands grabbing his wrists.
“I need you with me, in my life. I need you next to me, I wanna be selfish and keep you all to myself, Taka,”
“All to yourself?” His thumb then brushes your cheek, up to your eyebrows before pushing your sweaty strands out of your face. “Sounds like you got something else to say, don’t you?”
His voice isn’t playful, but rather encouraging. His lavender eyes are filled with something so comforting yet so intense. For the first time ever, you feel nervous in his presence.
“That I love you. I’m in love with you, you don’t even know how horrible it feels when I have to treat your cuts and wounds and have to watch you be so careless about something that is so precious to me,” your hands let go of his wrists to cradle his face, mirroring his actions. He melts under your touch, nuzzling into the palm of your hands like a feline craving heat during winter.
“Lucky you, I’d love to have you all to myself too,”
“You do?”
“I do,” he nods and tilts your head up to stare at him. “I have wanted you all to myself for so long, it’s kind of ridiculous. That warm smile,” his other hand traces your lips. “Those gorgeous eyes,” he leans in and presses a kiss to your eyelids. “This pure soul,” his lips then press against your forehead, between your eyebrows. “I’ve wanted you to be all mine for so long, watched myself fall in love with you harder with every moment we spent together. My heart, my soul—they yearned for yours. For your eyes to only stare at me, for those lips to only smile at me—I love you.”
You feel your cheeks heating up with every word, every honeyed sentence leaving his lips like a sweet melody. You can’t bring yourself to say anything in return, not when looking at him seems so difficult, your eyes, chest and whole body feeling hot at the realization that he feels the same.
Takashi was in love with you.
“You made my confession seem so lame,” you break the silence with a sniffle, and your face heats up even more when he starts laughing at your embarrassed state.
“It wasn’t lame at all, my love, my heart is about to burst at your words,”
“Don’t—you’re so comfortable already!” You try to pull away from him when he uses such sweet pet names on you.
“I am the luckiest to be with my best friend, my baby,” he presses his lips against your cheeks with a grin, going in for another kiss when he feels your hot cheeks. “Of course I’d be comfortable.”
Falling for your best friend seemed like the worst possible outcome when you realized you were developing feelings for him, but when he was holding you with so much care and staring at you with such warm eyes—all those worries melted away against the palm of his hand, accepting the love he had for you with open arms and an open heart.

Beta kids but make them Mobians (yes, I am cringe, I thought that was clear)
If it isn't clear, here are why I made them the way they are:
John - Rabbit. The Con Air bunny was kind of influential for this! His color pallette is also inspired by his God Tier and the clouds on Skaia. His hammer is inspired by the Warhammer of Zillyhoo with some more personal touches.
Rose - Bat. I wasn't sure what to make her at first, but I settled on a bat for her due to how I plan to make Roxy a cat and Dirk a seagull-- Thus, a flying mammal. Plus, Rouge was another inspiration for this, and I think it would be funny as hell if in this crossover, Rose would be her younger cousin.
Dave - Crow. This is self explanatory, the guy is surrounded by crows! The sword was inspired by the in-comic Caledflwch, and the green on the hilt reminded me of the Master Emerald. Not sure what would THAT entail. (knuckles would be so after his ass)
Jade - Dog (Huskie). She was mostly inspired by Bec! I may have uhh... Transmorgified them together in this design. I wanted something funky but stylish for her clothes like the dresses she made in-comic!
Some other notes:
- I'd figure that John and Dave would fight at first, akin to how Sonic and Shadow did???
- John would kind of be the Sonic and Jade would be kind of the Tails of the group. They were actually friends first, Rose came second, then Dave.
- Their names are the same from the comic, but would most likely have nicknames like Tails-- John would be called Zip and Dave would be called Dart, notably. Unsure for the other two.
