BERKELEY – Freshman Jeremiah Wilkinson scored a career-high 23 points off the bench to lead a short-handed California men's basketball squad to a 78-69 win over Air Force to win the Cal Classic at Haas Pavilion.   Wilkinson, who came into the game with 11 points through the first six games of the season, made 8 of 12 shots from the floor with two 3-pointers for Cal, which improved to 6-1 despite being without three starters – Jovan Blacksher Jr., DJ Campbell and BJ Omot – due to injury. The Golden Bears are off to their best start to a season since going 7-1 to open the 2016-17 campaign.   "What a coming out party for (Jeremiah) to showcase what he can do at the lead guard position. He was phenomenal," said Cal associate head coach Adam Mazarei. "His speed, his athleticism, his finishing at the rim was huge."   Andrej Stojakovic added a career-high 21 points – his second straight game with a career-best scoring effort – and grabbed six rebounds, while Rytis Petraitis totaled 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists against his former team in his first start of the year.   Petraitis sank all four of his shots and all three of his four free throws in the first half, scoring 11 to help the Golden Bears take a 35-27 lead into intermission.   Ethan Taylor hit back-to-back 3-pointers to get the Falcons (1-4) within 49-47 with 11:42 left to play, but Lee Dort answered with a three-point play, Wilkinson followed with a four-point play – a 3-pointer and the foul in the corner near an erupting Cal bench – and the Bears maintained at least a two-possession lead the rest of the way.   Cal shot 53.8% from the floor and outrebounded the Falcons 34-24. Wilkinson and Dort combined for 32 points off the bench.   Taylor sank five of Air Force's 11 3-pointers and scored 23 points to pace the Falcons before fouling out. Luke Kearney scored 14 off the bench and Wesley Celichowski scored 12 with two 3-pointers.

ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) - A Georgia high school football coach was arrested after allegedly killing his girlfriend in Maryland on Saturday, according to Prince George’s County Police Department,

Carl Kearney, Jr., 43, walked into the Division V Clinton police station and confessed to officers that he had strangled his girlfriend earlier that morning at her home, authorities said.

Kearney is the head football coach at Spalding High School in Griffin, Georgia.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Patrina Best, was found unresponsive by officers who responded to the home for a welfare check. She was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

During questioning by detectives, Kearney admitted to strangling Best during an altercation.

Kearney faces charges of first- and second-degree murder along with related offenses.

Upon occasion a body must be exhumed or done so by accident. Some exhumations can reveal unusual finds and many famous people who were exhumed are documented by curious witnesses. There is quite a list of famous people who were exhumed for one reason or another. Some of them include:

Daniel Boone – He was buried in Missouri but when moved to Kentucky, they thought they might have the wrong body.

John Wilkes Booth – His body was warehoused until his family finally put him to rest in their area.

Al Capone – His body was moved.

Karen Carpenter – In Karen’s case, they wanted to move her to a new location.

Christopher Columbus – His body had been moved around and so there was some question about whether the remains were his or possibly mixed with another person.

Marie Curie – Her body was exhumed and moved to be put in a place of honor.

Sammy Davis Jr. – Sammy died almost bankrupt so his wife actually had him exhumed to get the 70,000 dollars worth of jewelry he was buried with.

Adolf Hitler – In 1970, remains believed to be his were turned over for cremation.

Benny Hill – Sadly, this beloved comedian was the victim of grave robbery.

Abraham Lincoln – Several people thought to try and steal his body. Eventually, they encased him in concrete.

Lee Harvey Oswald – With the permission of Oswald’s widow, Eddowes had the body exhumed in 1981 and dental records confirmed the man was not a Russian body double, but Oswald himself.

Elvis Presley – Buried in Memphis, he was moved because someone tried to steal his body. He was placed at Graceland

Jesse James – The infamous Wild West outlaw may have died in 1882, but his legend lived on as did persistent rumors that James faked his own death. In 1995, the James family requested the exhumation of their ancestor’s corpse from a Kearney, Missouri cemetery and DNA tests confirmed the remains were indeed those of the outlaw.

Eva Peron – Evita’s body was exhumed and moved to Madrid, where her husband lived in exile. Finally in 1974, her remains were returned to Buenos Aires and buried in a fortified crypt in La Recoleta Cemetery.

Abraham Lincoln – In 1876 a gang of Chicago counterfeiters hatched a scheme to snatch the slain president’s body from his tomb in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, and hold the corpse for a ransom of $200,000 and the release of their best engraver from prison. After law enforcement officials thwarted the grave robbers in the middle of the crime, Lincoln’s body was quickly moved to various unmarked graves until it was eventually encased in a steel cage and entombed under 10 feet of concrete in the same Springfield cemetery in 1901.

Zachary Taylor – In 1991, Taylor became the first president to have his remains exhumed, and tests conclusively showed that he was not assassinated by poison.

Oliver Cromwell – King Charles II exhumed Cromwell’s body on the twelfth anniversary of his father’s execution and in retribution for the regicide staged an execution of his own.

 Simon Bolivar – Twelve years after his death, Bolivar’s remains were exhumed from Santa Marta’s cathedral and transferred to Caracas, Venezuela. The testing by forensic specialists proved inconclusive as to the cause of Bolivar’s death.

 Joseph DeAngelo Jr. 

“The Golden state killer” he is a past police man, who engaged in at least three crime sprees from the mid-1970’s through the mid-1980’s. In 2020 Joseph pleaded guilty for 13 counts of first-degree murder as well as 13 counts of kidnapping to avoid The death penalty. He later received multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole. DeAngelo later offered an apology, saying, “I’ve listened to all your statements, each one of them, and i'm truly sorry to everyone I have hurt”. 

Angel Maturino Resendiz 

“The Railroad killer” He killed at least 15 people across the U.S. and Mexico in the 1990’s. He would jump off trains and kill people in nearby homes, attacking with a knife, Pick Axe, rocks, and other blunt objects. He would often steal their belongings and sometimes rape his female victoms.  

Randy Steven Kraft 

“Scorecard killer” He drugged, raped, tortured, and murdered at least 16 young men between 1972 and 1983. Most of his crimes were in california. Kraft’s nickname came from the fact that he left cryptic lists of his victims. Investigators believed, based on this list and other evidence, that Kraft killed 67 men, but was only convicted of 16 murders. He is on death row. 

“Death Angels” 

They spread terror throughout San Francisco for 179 days. 

Robert Hansen

“The Butcher Baker” Robert Handsen would kidnap prostitutes and release them into the Alaskan woods to hunt them. His nickname came from the fact that he owned a bakery, and was unsuspected of any crime for his hospitality and kindness. He admitted to 17 murders which took place between 1971 and 1983. He died in prison in 2014. 

Jeffery Dahmer 

“The Milwaukee Cannibal” Dahmer Murdered, raped and dismembered men and boys between 1978 and 1991. His later killings often included acts of Necrophilia and Cannibalism. He kept body parts of some of his victims in his Milwaukee apartment. Dahmer was sentenced to life in prison, where he was beaten to death by a fellow inmate in 1994.  

Randall Woodfield

“The 1-5 killer” Randall Woodfield was connected to 18 murders in Washington, Oregon, and Californian between 1979 and 1981, and may have had as many as 44 victims. He was known to sexually assault his female victims. He is serving life in prison at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem. 

Patrick Kearney

“The Freeway killer” He had pleaded guilty to 21 murders committed in the 1970’s. He admitted to seven more. He is serving life in prison. His pattern was to pick up young male hitchhikers or young men from gay bars and shoot them. Often sexually assaulting their body’s.   

Ted Bundy 

Ted Bundy was executed in Florida in 1989 and was linked to a string of murders of young women in several states during the 1970s. He confessed to 35 murders before his execution. He would often win over women with his good looks before attacking them. Decades later his vicious crime spree continues to grip the public imagination, inspireding multiple TV and Film treatments. 

John Wayne Gacy Jr. 

“The killer Clown'' John Wayne Gacy jr. was convicted of 33 murders and was executed in 1994. Gacy, who sometimes performed as a clown, sexually assaulted and usually asphyxiated teenage boys and young men in the 1970s in illinois. He buried many of his victims in the crawl space of his Chicago-area home.   

Donald Harvey

“The angel of Death” This former nurse's aide received multiple life sentences after admitting in 1987 to killing three dozen hospital patients in Ohio and Kentucky during the 1970’s and ‘80s. In 2017 a fellow inmate, James Elliot, would be charged in the fatal beating of Harvey. 

Gary Ridgeway 

“The Green River killer” Gary Ridgeway was sentenced to life in prison in 2003 after he admitted to killing 49 women in the 1980’s and 1990’s. He terrorized Seattle, killing mostly prostitutes by strangling them. He would dispose of their body’s in dump sites and along the Green river, sometimes returning to have sex with their corpses. Nearly 20 years past before DNA evidence linked him to his crimes. He was arrested in 2001.

This Nearly Crashed My Browser: Finding All 120+ Competitors

The Simpsons is known for it's utterly mind-boggling amount of episodes and characters, with its wiki having more than 5K entries in the character section. My job was to sift to through and pick out as many relevant characters as possible, while making some exclusions and exceptions. Here's how it went down:

The wiki's home page has a character tab with a dropdown with five category; Simpson Family, Krusty, At the SNPP, At Springfield Elementary, and Kids

Clicking on each tab will bring you to a page with all characters relevant to the category

-The Krusty tab is literally just Krusty, so I just found Channel 4 myself

In Simpson Family, I grabbed the core family, Snowball & SLH, Abe & Mona, Patty, Selma, and Ling

In Channel 4, I grabbed Krusty, Kent, Bumblebee Man, Sideshow Bob & Mel, Mr. Teeny, Itchy & Scratchy, and later I decided to expand it to celebrities, adding, Marvin Monroe, Troy McClure, Rainer Wolfcastle, Drederick Tatum, and just decided to stick Kang & Kodos here

In SNPP, I grabbed Mr. Burns, Smithers, Lenny & Carl, Blinky the Fish, Charlie, and the people's champion, "Just Stamp the Ticket" Man

In Springfield Elementary, I grabbed Skinner, Edna, Otto, Hoover, Largo, Willie, Chalmers, Krupt, and Doris

And in Kids, I grabbed Uter, Richard & Lewis, Database, Baby Gerald, Milhouse, Nelson, Wendell, Martin, Ralph, Rod & Todd, Sherri & Terri, Janey, and the Spuckler & Nahasapeemapetilon kids

I didn't find the bullies, Jimbo, Dolph, and Kearney in Kids, so I made a throwaway category, "Townies". After these three and over the course of tracking other characters, I grabbed Barney, Sam & Larry, Hans Moleman, Snake, Bleeding Gums, Julio & Grady, Jebediah Springfield, Disco Stu, Squeaky Voiced Teen, Cletus & Brandine, and the City of Shelbyville.

Next, I decided to look for Senior characters, which eventually evolved into the aptly named "Olds" category. This was pretty broad, but here I grabbed Ned & Maude Flanders, Kirk & Luann Van Houten, Marge's Mother, Jasper, Mrs. Muntz, Old Jewish Man (which is his title, apparently), Ruth Powers, Mrs. Glick, Crazy Cat Lady, Sarah Wiggum, Agnes, Manjula, and Matt Groening.

Researching this category, characters such as Apu and Fat Tony came to mind, but were excluded since they do stuff. So then I made the final category, "Career", characters who are most defined by their career. This was the largest category, with me grabbing Apu, Reverend & Helen Lovejoy, Lionel Hutz, Moe, Dr Hibbert & Nick, Fat Tony, Legs & Louie, Johnny Tightlips, Frankie the Squealer, Judge Constance, The Salty Sea Captain & The Rich Texan, Mayor Quimby, Cookie Kwan, Blue-Haired Lawyer, Lindsey Naegle, Roger Meyers Jr, Gil, Comic Book Guy, Chief Wiggum, Officers Eddie & Lou, Herman, Italian Chef (not calling him f-ing Luigi Risotto), and Duffman.

Finally, the characters I forgot or couldn't originally fit, being Herbert, Allison, Rabbi Krustofsky, Artie Ziff, Shauna Chalmers, Kumiko Albertson, and Raphael the Wisecrack.

Exclusions and the Vaguest of Vague Rules

While constructing the list, at the start I avoided adding Allison, Herbert, and the Rabbi. In my mind, these were one-time guest stars, like Hank Scorpio and Frank Grimes, but I decided to include them as Allison became a Janey-like figure, Herbert got a follow-up episode in Season 3, and the Rabbi appeared on occasion with speaking roles. Characters I will never add would either be real-people, with the exception of Matt Groening, one-off guest stars, and set-dressing characters that don't impact main characters, such as Martin's parents, the other workers at the nuclear plant, and Sideshow Bob's wife and child.

Of course, I can bend the rules. If you think of a character that could be included, tell me in anyway you can and I'll decide on it or create a public poll. Why, just typing this up I thought of Flanders' parents, the Vegas wives, and Princess Kashmir, who could all be argued for or against!

Navy: 2024 Armed Forces Bowl Champions

FORT WORTH, Texas -- — Blake Horvath set a Navy record with a 95-yard touchdown run and then scored a go-ahead 6-yarder with 4:34 left as the Midshipmen overcame an early two-touchdown deficit and stopped a late 2-point conversion attempt to beat Oklahoma 21-20 in the Armed Forces Bowl on Friday.

The Sooners (6-7) got a 10-yard touchdown pass from Michael Hawkins Jr. to Jake Roberts with six seconds left. They then went for the win, but Hawkins was sacked by Justin Reed on the conversion try.

“It was a great play that I was able to make,” Reed said, quickly crediting the rest of the defense. “We just made sure that we stayed composed after them just getting that touchdown.”

Just two weeks after a dominating win over Army for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, the Midshipmen (10-3) reached 10 wins for the sixth time. The last 10-win season had been in 2019, which had been their last winning season.

“Well, it’s the perfect ending,” second-year Navy head coach Brian Newberry said. “You’re down 14-0, I think it kind of symbolizes everything that these guys have been through, especially the seniors, symbolizes how things started. Things looked bleak, things weren’t going great, adversity and they kept scratching and clawing and fighting.”

Horvath's record run on a sprint down the middle of the field tied the game at 14 late in third quarter. He then put Navy ahead for the first time on his 6-yard TD run, one play after he converted a fourth-and-3 with a 16-yard pass to Eli Heidenrich.

“I thought if we go score right there, that might be the difference in the game. And it was,” Newberry said of going for it on fourth down in that 12-play, 66-yard drive that took 7 1/2 minutes.

Horvath ran 18 times for 155 yards, and completed 7 of 12 passes for 92 yards. Alex Tecza had an 11-yard TD run for the Midshipmen.

Oklahoma went up after Gavin Sawchuk’s 21-yard TD on the opening drive, when he had 37 yards after only 61 in his other eight games this season. It was 14-0 with 5:56 left in the first quarter after Hawkins rolled left, reversed field and got almost to the other side of the field before throwing to Zion Kearney for a 56-yard catch-and-run TD.

“Came out pretty strong, but second quarter I think we got a little relaxed … we weren't together as a team,” Hawkins said. “We got back on track after that, but going into a game like this, you have to stay on track the whole game.”

Oklahoma wrapped up its first season in the Southeastern Conference with their second 6-7 record in coach Brent Venables' three seasons.

The Sooners had a much different-looking roster than the regular season. More than two dozen players went into the transfer portal, and the Sooners were also without standout linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman, who bypassed playing to begin preparation for the NFL draft.

“Obviously not the year we wanted to have, but although there’s a lot of disappointment, there’s been a ton of growth,” Sooners hometown tight end Jake Roberts said. “You learn how to fight through adversity.”

The takeaway

Oklahoma: While the Sooners played in a bowl for the 26th consecutive season, they had 23 winning seasons in a row before Venables took over as head coach. … Hawkins was hampered by at least six dropped passes while throwing to a group whose only scholarship receivers were freshmen.

Navy: The Midshipmen are 2-0 against Oklahoma, the only other meeting a 10-0 win at Norman in 1965. They beat an SEC team for the first time since a 21-0 win over Mississippi in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day 1955.
